Free Describing 3D Shapes Bingo Game for Kindergarten
Work on identifying 3D shapes or describing 3D shapes with a free printable bingo game for kindergarten.
Here is a bingo game that I made for my kindergarten class to play in small groups. Let me show you how to play it, how to make it, and give you the free download.
Bingo is such a classic game, right? This is an easy 3D shapes activity for kindergarten to plug-and-play into your lesson plans.
Here are three things I want you to know about these bingo cards:
- The bingo cards feature both real-world examples and simple 3D shapes
- Some shapes are rotated since students are supposed to be able to identify them no matter the orientation
- The cards are designed to get bingos fast so all kinders get a turn to describe during one of our small group math lessons
That way we really are working on the standards.
Now, let’s talk about how to play the game.
How to play
The rules are pretty similar to a regular game of bingo. There is a caller who has calling cards and players who each have a playing card.
In order to practice the standard of describing 3D shapes, we won’t simply be calling out the shape names. If the goal is to describe shapes – then that’s exactly what the caller has to do.
The caller should pick a card from the draw pile and describe it so that the players can find the correct matching shape and cover up one match on their gameboard.
For example, if the caller picks a sphere card, he or she should describe it like, “Cover the shape with no edges, 0 vertices, and 1 curved face.”
Then, the players should either cover up the real-world sphere (the Earth) or the simple sphere.
This continues until one player has three spaces in a row (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) covered up and that player calls out, “Bingo!”
The player with the bingo has won the round and a new caller is selected (maybe even the person who won) – and the players swap playing cards. Shuffle the calling card draw pile.
Helpful tips
Here are a few things that might be helpful to know if you’re going to play 3D bingo with your class.
- You can use this game simply by calling out shape names too if you have students who are ready for 3D shape identification, but not describing them yet.
- The teacher should start as the caller and model describing using proper vocabulary like vertices, faces, edges, etc. Then, when students are ready they can take turns being the caller for each round. {{Informal assessment… boom!}}
How to make 3D bingo
Now that you know how to play, let’s make it. Here’s what you need to do.
First, download 3D shapes bingo . [terms of use] [downloading help]
Then print the playing cards for your small group – there are seven different cards. You can print on any paper – colored paper, construction paper, etc. (No need to laminate the cards if you use construction paper -they’ll hold up just fine when used by a couple of groups over a few years.)
If you don’t want full-sheet size bingo mats, change your printer settings to print multiple pages on one paper, which would make a nice half-size bingo card.
Print the calling cards as well and cut those apart.
Grab some counting chips, linking cubes or gold coins for manipulatives to cover up the playing cards and you’re ready to play.
This game stores really well in a gallon-size Ziploc bag.
Let’s wrap it up
There yo uhave it – a bingo game for kindergarten small groups to work on describing 3D shapes. I hope those tips for how to play it, how to make it, and the free download have you set up for success.

Free Printable Winter Break Bingo
December 10, 2017
Winter break is coming up quickly so I created a fun Free Printable Winter Break Bingo to give to the kids.
Winter Break Bingo
With winter break quickly approaching, I created this bingo to send home with the kiddos. Instead of homework over break, I wanted to encourage the students to read, play, and spend quality time with the families. I’ve included fun things like draw a winter picture, have soup for dinner, read in front of the fireplace, have an indoor snowball fight. Lots of different options for the students to choose from.
THIS RESOURCE WORKS WELL WITH
You can make suggestions too, such as if a student doesn’t have a fireplace, they have fire videos on Netflix or Youtube. Maybe you live in Arizona like us and don’t get snow, but you can still build a snowman out of play doh. Encourage the students to think outside the box and be creative. Winter break is a great time for us all to regenerate and take a break to get ready for the second half of the school year.
If the students bring back the bingo card after winter break with a, “bingo’, they get to take a trip to the treasure box. I’ve made the printable in both a color option and a black and white option so you can print what best fits your needs. You can download the free bingo below from my TeachersPayTeachers store.
If you’re looking for more ideas like this to send home, we also have a free math bingo here , a free screen free bingo here , a free summer reading bingo here and a free reading bingo here.
Wishing you a fantastic, relaxing winter break!

This post contains affiliate links. See my Disclosure Policy for details. Kindergarten is a huge milestone in your child’s life (and yours). Whether they have been at home, attending preschool, or at daycare, it’s a big transition.
There will be a lot of new experiences and learning.
We want our little ones to have a smooth, successful transition.
There are a few things that you can do know to prepare your child for the Transition to Kindergarten .
One of those is reviewing kindergarten readiness skills. You can read about other ways here .
This Ready for Kindergarten Bingo is a great tool to help you work on some of those skills your child will need before starting kindergarten or while in kindergarten.
This Ready for Kindergarten Bingo printable is a great tool to use as you review skills your child will need before starting kindergarten. We used this bingo card as we were preparing to transition our middle child to kindergarten. He aced some of the skills, but others he needed a lot more work.
Your child will have so much fun filling out their sheet, they won’t even realize they are doing work. We put stickers on ours to mark the completed tasks. Once the sheet is filled, we offer a small reward. If your child is a go-getter, complete a new sheet each week. Like to take things slow, you will find similar tasks on each row; complete a row each week. Like to mix things up, do a column each week for variety.

Homework in kindergarten? What’s best for students?
Kindergarten cafe.
You can't teach the child without teaching the WHOLE child! Welcome to Kindergarten Cafe, LLC - your home for teaching ideas, activities, and strategies to support you in teaching the whole child! I am Zeba McGibbon and I love creating resources for teachers and sharing my teaching experience with others. Kindergarten Cafe is aimed for kindergarten, but teachers of Preschool-Second grade can find resources here for their students! I love to connect with other teachers so please reach out and say hello!
8 Easy Impulse Control Activities for Kids
Sub tub for a smooth and easy absence, ideas for classroom jobs and why they are important, 5 steps to making an interactive seesaw activity, quick and easy movement breaks for distance learning.
Homework in kindergarten? Sending home some worksheets ends up being more work for you, the teacher, causes stress and struggles for the families, and isn’t effective for the students. So what can we do instead?
Homework in kindergarten? Research shows it’s not effective
Research shows that the cons outweigh any benefits homework might provide. Especially, if the teacher feels they have to provide homework every day, then the purpose of the homework might be just to have something as opposed to being of value to the students. It ends up being busy work that families struggle and fight with their students to complete. And what do teachers do with the homework? Most often, with this kind of busy work, teachers throw it away, because they can’t know for sure how much the child actually did independently versus how much the parents helped or even did the homework for the child. Standard homework just isn’t worth all the negatives.
But parents like homework…
Parents often complain when teachers and districts eliminate homework. When you hear what their complaints are though, you hear that they want extra practice for their child because they want them to succeed, and they want to know what their child is learning in school . Alternatives to homework can still address these concerns that parents have while making learning fun and engaging for both students and their families.
Homework in kindergarten? What about Homework Bingo!
Homework in kindergarten? Instead of sending home paper worksheets that are mindless, I like to use Homework Bingo to show families how much learning is already happening in their everyday life. Each board has simple tasks that connects to the learning happening in the classroom and can easily be done within the family’s busy life. It doesn’t require a lot of time or a lot of materials. Additionally, if the family doesn’t have time that day, then they don’t have to do it.
The goal would be to try and get bingo, but if the family wanted more ideas for learning at home then they could keep going. Families are very busy and so the homework shouldn’t take too long if the child needs adult help to complete it. I know from my experience that families really appreciated getting the Homework Bingo and seeing how easy it is to connect our learning in school to learning at home.
Book Buddies
What’s better than homework in kindergarten? Book Buddies! Every weekend I send home Book Buddies with my students. Students don’t get one every weekend, so it is a special thing when they get their turn. The Book Buddy bags each center around a theme and have a few books inside along with related activities. These activities always connect to the learning we are doing in the classroom and families and students love doing them together. I’ve heard from families that they love getting these bags and knowing that, if they have the time that weekend, they can enjoy completing them together as a family. It’s a great way to see the learning that we are doing in school and see how easy it can be to connect fun, engaging activities to some great read-alouds. Plus, when families read together, it fosters a great love of reading!
Home Intervention Bags
Some students do require more practice to learn certain skills, but do they need homework in kindergarten? When a student is struggling to learn a school within my small groups and the school day, I send them home with a home intervention bag . The bag includes directions on how to play the simple and engaging games that help the student practice the skill they need help with. I only send home a few activities at a time, focusing on the most pressing and foundational skills. When families can give 10-15 minutes a day to these activities, I can always tell when I see them in my small groups. When the games are simple, fun, and quick, it’s more likely for the student to want to do it and it’s easier for the families to fit them into their busy schedules.
Kindergarten Home Support Bags
Homework in kindergarten? Homework on its own just doesn’t offer enough benefits to outweigh all the negatives. Instead, teachers and families can use Homework Bingo, book buddy bags, and home intervention bags, to help students enjoy some routine practice of important academic skills.

Holiday Bingo Game for the Classroom
The kindergarten connection.
The holidays are such a fun time in the classroom. Whether you’re a teacher who loves parties and are looking for a fun activity, or you just like to add some holiday fun into your day to day routine, this FREE Holiday Bingo game will be perfect for your Pre-K or Kindergarten classroom!
*For even more seasonal fun, be sure to grab our Christmas Centers & Activities for Pre-K/Kindergarten !
Holidays in a Pre-K or Kindergarten classroom can be so much fun. There is excitement in the air, and kiddos always remind us of the joy of the season. But, us teachers tend to make things more stressful than they need to be , and the holidays are no exception.
We try and do so much to make the time festive and special, but our students don’t really need a bunch of crazy extras . They get excited about everything ! So you don’t have to decorate your entire classroom with lights, snowflakes, trees, and stockings. Keeping it simple is usually best. This Holiday Bingo game is simple but super fun! It’s the perfect way to bring some holiday cheer into the classroom!
Keeping it Academic
Who says academics can’t be fun? One of the simplest ways to incorporate the holidays into your classroom is by adding in seasonal activities into your normal academic day.
Some easy ways to do this are:
- Reading holiday books during circle time
- Using holiday brain breaks
- Including holiday themed activities in centers and small groups
- Playing educational holiday themed games
- Using holiday themed sensory bins
Festive Fun with Holiday Bingo
This is where Holiday Bingo comes in! Kiddos love a good game of Bingo (let’s face it, so do I!), and they don’t even realize how much they are learning while they play !
Think of all the skills students are practicing when they play Bingo. They need to listen to the item called and try to find the matching item on their card. They have to keep track of what is on their card and when/if they get a Bingo. Plus, they learn to manage their emotions if they are not the winner (this is a big one to practice). Bingo is actually more difficult than we realize!
These cute, seasonal bingo cards are colorful and fun. Be sure to laminate them for durability and reuse year after year. Plus, these cards are a great way introduce holiday words and vocabulary !
Want to make it extra festive? You could give your students gumdrops or holiday erasers to use as their bingo markers, or have little holiday pencils or stickers as prizes for your winners!
