Structure: How do you divide the various operations of the company.

Systems: Procedure for measurement, reward and resource allocation.

Style: Behavior patterns of the key groups like managers.

Shared values are in the middle of them all on the diagram. It's somewhat self-explanatory.

In theory, using these methods of self-analysis will help you a great deal. Due to them you'll know, and decide, all sorts of things about your production company.

For each direct competitor, provide an overview of their business and document their strengths and weaknesses. Unless you once worked at your competitors’ businesses, it will be impossible to know everything about them. But you should be able to find out key things about them such as:

  • What level of athletes do they serve?
  • What type of sports agency business are they?
  • What is their pricing (premium, low, etc.)?
  • What are they good at?
  • What are their weaknesses?

With regards to the last two questions, think about your answers from the customers’ perspective. And don’t be afraid to ask your competitors’ customers what they like most and least about them.

The final part of your competitive analysis section is to document your areas of competitive advantage. For example:

  • Will you provide services for a specific sport or type of athlete?
  • Will you offer products or services that your competition doesn’t?
  • Will you provide better customer service?
  • Will you offer better pricing?

Think about ways you will outperform your competition and document them in this section of your plan.

Marketing Plan

Traditionally, a marketing plan includes the four P’s: Product, Price, Place, and Promotion. For a sports agency business plan, your marketing strategy should include the following:

Product : In the product section, you should reiterate the type of sports agency that you documented in your company overview. Then, detail the specific products or services you will be offering. For example, will you provide representation, career management, licensing and contract services, or something else?

Price : Document the prices you will offer and how they compare to your competitors. Essentially, in the product and price sub-sections of your plan, you are presenting the products and/or services you offer and their prices.

Place : Place refers to the site of your sports agency. Document where your company is situated and mention how the site will impact your success. For example, is your sports agency business located in a busy entertainment district, a business district, a standalone office, or purely online? Discuss how your site might be the ideal location for your customers.

Promotions : The final part of your sports agency marketing plan is where you will document how you will drive potential customers to your location(s). The following are some promotional methods you might consider:

  • Advertise in college newsletters, or trade magazines
  • Reach out to websites
  • Distribute flyers
  • Engage in email marketing
  • Advertise on social media platforms
  • Improve the SEO (search engine optimization) on your website for targeted keywords

Operations Plan

While the earlier sections of your business plan explained your goals, your operations plan describes how you will meet them. Your operations plan should have two distinct sections as follows:

Everyday short-term processes include all of the tasks involved in running your sports agency business, including answering calls, deal and/or contract negotiation, meeting with clients, creating marketing campaigns, etc.

Long-term goals are the milestones you hope to achieve. These could include the dates when you expect to sign your Xth athlete, or when you hope to reach $X in revenue. It could also be when you expect to expand your sports agency business to a new city.

Management Team

To demonstrate your sports agency business’ potential to succeed, a strong management team is essential. Highlight your key players’ backgrounds, emphasizing those skills and experiences that prove their ability to grow a company.

Ideally, you and/or your team members have direct experience in managing sports agency businesses. If so, highlight this experience and expertise.  Also highlight any experience that you think will help your business succeed.

If your team is lacking, consider assembling an advisory board. An advisory board would include 2 to 8 individuals who act as mentors to your business. They  help answer questions and provide strategic guidance. If needed, look for advisory board members with experience in managing a sports agency or successfully running a contract law firm.

Financial Plan

Your financial plan should include your 5-year financial statement broken out both monthly or quarterly for the first year and then annually. Your financial statements include your income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statements.

Income Statement

An income statement is more commonly called a Profit and Loss statement or P&L. It shows your revenue and then subtracts your costs to show whether you turned a profit or not.

In developing your income statement, you need to devise assumptions. For example, will you manage 25 athletes at a time, and will you offer brand development such as social media marketing? And, will sales grow by 2% or 10% per year? As you can imagine, your choice of assumptions will greatly impact the financial forecasts for your business. As much as possible, conduct research to try to ground your assumptions in reality.

Balance Sheets

Balance sheets show your assets and liabilities. While balance sheets can include much information, try to simplify them to the key items you need to know about. For instance, if you spend $50,000 on building out your sports agency business, this will not give you immediate profits. Rather, it is an asset that will hopefully help you generate profits for years to come. Likewise, if a lender writes you a check for $50,000, you don’t need to pay it back immediately; that is a liability you will pay back over time.

Cash Flow Statement

Your cash flow statement will help determine how much money you need to start or grow your business, and ensure you never run out of money. What most entrepreneurs and business owners don’t realize is that you can turn a profit, but run out of money and go bankrupt.

When creating your Income Statement and Balance Sheets, be sure to include several of the key costs needed in starting or growing a sports agency business:

  • Cost of equipment and office supplies
  • Payroll or salaries paid to staff
  • Business insurance
  • Other start-up expenses (if you’re a new business) like legal expenses, permits, computer software, and equipment

Attach your full financial projections in the appendix of your plan along with any supporting documents that make your plan more compelling. For example, you might include your office location lease or a list of professional athletes you represent.

Putting together a business plan for your sports agency will improve your company’s chances of success. The process of developing your plan will help you better understand the sports agency market, your competition, and your customers. You will also gain a marketing plan to better attract and serve customers, an operations plan to focus your efforts, and financial projections that give you goals to strive for and keep your company focused.

Despite the potential sale of Paramount Global, controlling shareholder Shari Redstone kicked off the company’s annual investor meeting Tuesday by expressing confidence in its new management structure and hinting at more cost cuts to come.

Paramount executives declined to answer questions about its sale talks with David Ellison’s Skydance Media, which have accelerated in recent days .

Paramount’s special board committee has endorsed a deal that would give investors the option of cashing out or holding on to their shares in a bet on Ellison’s ability to rebuild the storied media giant, according to people close to the negotiations.

The Skydance deal still requires the sign-off of Redstone, who is weighing whether to sell her family’s stake in Paramount.

But because any sale is months away from completion, Paramount’s recently installed “office of the CEO” — comprising division heads George Cheeks, Brian Robbins and Chris McCarthy — mapped out a “going forward” strategy to run Paramount as a standalone entity and improve its battered balance sheet. The trio assumed the helm of Paramount in late April after the ouster of Bob Bakish , who had run the company since its merger with CBS in late 2019.

The trio unveiled a plan that centers on $500 million in cost cuts — including an undisclosed number of layoffs — selling assets, and exploring a joint venture for the company’s Paramount+ streaming service.

“We all agree that Paramount is not where we want it to be,” McCarthy said in prepared remarks.

“Given the strength of our assets, our people and our long-term competitive advantage of making some of the biggest and broadest hits, we know that there is significant value to be unlocked,” McCarthy said.

Rather than leading Paramount to reclaim its place among industry titans, Redstone’s tenure atop the company has been marred by miscalculations and setbacks.

Shares fell about 3% to $12.34 in Tuesday midday trading. On Monday, the stock got a boost following news that a deal with Ellison’s Skydance, which is joined by RedBird Capital Partners and private equity firm KKR, was within reach.

Paramount has stumbled in recent years.

Once a colossus of the entertainment industry, the Redstone family-controlled enterprise has fallen behind its traditional rivals, including Walt Disney Co. and Comcast, as well as upstart tech companies including Amazon and Netflix.

Years of underinvestment, mismanagement, titanic shifts in audience behavior, the COVID-19 pandemic and a costly push into streaming have diminished its standing. Its once vibrant cable channels, including Comedy Central, MTV and Nickelodeon, have dimmed in reputation and ratings. Exacerbating its debt issues, Bakish passed up opportunities to sell assets, including Showtime and BET.

Last year’s strikes by the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA slowed the content pipeline .

S&P Global downgraded Paramount’s credit to “junk” status earlier this year. Investor Warren Buffett bolted, selling shares at a loss. Last month, he acknowledged that buying 63 million shares of Paramount stock was a mistake.

During Paramount’s 44-minute shareholder meeting, several investor proposals, including measures to provide clarity on the use of artificial intelligence and restrictions on golden parachutes for key executives, were rejected.

Paramount CEO Bob Bakish’s ouster comes a day after David Ellison’s Skydance Media sweetened its offer for Shari Redstone’s National Amusements, with money earmarked for Paramount’s Class B shareholders.

In addition to Redstone, board members Linda M. Griego, Barbara M. Byrne, Judith A. McHale, Charles E. Phillips Jr. and Susan Schuman returned for yearlong terms on the board. Four other board members stepped down.

The belt tightening comes after several waves of cost-cutting and previous asset sales, such as the jettisoning of book publishing giant Simon & Schuster and CBS real estate, including its Manhattan skyscraper and movie and television lot in Studio City.

“Our plan starts with transforming streaming, which will accelerate our path to profitability and make up for declines in our linear business,” Cheeks said during his prepared remarks.

“We’ll reduce non-content costs by streamlining our organization, allowing us to build a leaner, more nimble company that’s better positioned to win,” Cheeks said, adding the team has already “identified near-term cost reduction opportunities, with an annualized impact of $500 million” in its effort to return Paramount to investment grade status.

Controlling shareholder Shari Redstone hasn’t consented to the deal. Competing offers have come in for National Amusements, but Redstone has long favored Ellison.

Despite the turmoil and the gravity of her upcoming decision over the fate of the company, Redstone signaled resolve in her brief remarks. She voiced support for the three executives who are now running the company.

McCarthy is the longtime leader of MTV Entertainment Studios and more recently, Showtime; Cheeks has been CBS’ CEO for four years; and Robbins has run both Nickelodeon and Paramount Pictures on Melrose Avenue since 2021.

“While we recognize that this is not a traditional management structure, we are confident that it will enable them to move quickly to implement best practices throughout the company and to drive improved performance,” Redstone said.

The three men “have been behind our biggest successes for years,” she said.

On the deal front , the sweetened Ellison proposal is the latest and third offer from Skydance and its backers.

The deal would include $4.5 billion to buy out non-voting B-class stockholders at $15 a share during a second phase of the transaction. There would also be a $1.5-billion cash infusion to shore up Paramount’s balance sheet and help reduce debt, according knowledgeable people.

Redstone was presented with details of the plan this week.

While she has long favored Ellison’s deal over a potential sale to Sony Pictures Entertainment and Apollo Global Management , she needed to sit on the sidelines while Paramount’s independent directors, led by Phillips, hashed out a deal that would also protect the interests of ordinary, non-voting shareholders.

The Skydance proposal would give the Redstone family more than $2 billion for their holding company National Amusements Inc. and its voting shares in Paramount. The infusion would allow the family to pay off National Amusements’ debts and come away with about $1.8 billion, according to a person familiar with the matter who was not authorized to comment.

The Walt Disney Company Announces Strategic Restructuring, Restoring Accountability To Creative Businesses

BURBANK, Calif., February 9, 2023 – The Walt Disney Company announced details of its strategic restructuring that will refocus the organization on creativity, empower creative leaders and ensure they are accountable for all aspects of their businesses globally, and put the company’s streaming business on a path to sustained growth and profitability.  Effective immediately, the company will be organized into three core, collaborative business segments: Disney Entertainment, ESPN, and Disney Parks, Experiences and Products. The leaders of each business segment will have full operational control and financial responsibility for creative development, marketing, technology, sales, and distribution, and will be accountable for driving business efficiencies globally.

“For nearly 100 years, storytelling and creativity have fueled The Walt Disney Company, with virtually every interaction we have with our consumers emanating from something creative,” said Robert A. Iger, Chief Executive Officer, The Walt Disney Company. “I am committed to positioning this company for a new era of growth. Our strategic restructuring will return creativity to the center of the company, increase accountability, improve results, and ensure the quality of our content and experiences.”

Disney Entertainment will be co-chaired by Alan Bergman and Dana Walden who will be responsible for the company’s full portfolio of entertainment media and content businesses globally, including streaming.

ESPN will include ESPN networks and ESPN+ and will be led by Jimmy Pitaro. Pitaro will also be responsible for the management and supervision of the company’s full portfolio of sports content, products and experiences across all of Disney’s platforms worldwide, including its international sports channels.

The streaming business remains a top priority for the company. Disney’s unparalleled collection of renowned and trusted franchises and brands, combined with the reach of the streaming portfolio (consisting of Disney+, ESPN+, Hulu, Star+ and Hotstar) creates rich and direct connections between the consumer and the company’s stories and characters, powering growth across the entire company.

“Every day, I am reminded of what incredible talent we have leading the many facets of this company,” Iger said. “Thanks to my management team and our exceptional business leaders, who have acted quickly and strategically on the important changes we are undertaking today, I am as encouraged as ever by what the future holds for The Walt Disney Company.”

Disney Entertainment co-Chairmen Alan Bergman and Dana Walden will oversee the company’s global entertainment streaming businesses and manage all content decisions for those services, including Disney+ and Hulu.

Bergman will also have primary oversight of the following businesses and content brands: Disney Live Action, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Studios, and Searchlight Pictures as well as Disney Music Group and Disney Theatrical Group.

Walden will also have primary oversight of the following businesses and content brands: ABC Entertainment, ABC News, ABC Owned Televisions Stations, Disney Branded Television, Disney Television Studios, Freeform, FX, Hulu Originals, National Geographic Content, and Onyx Collective.

Pitaro will continue to oversee eight linear networks, including ESPN and ESPN2; sports content across all Disney domestic and, going forward, international platforms; ESPN+; ESPN Audio; ESPN Digital; ESPN Social; ESPN Fantasy and a variety of owned sports events.

Effective immediately, several shared-service organizations across the company will support both Disney Entertainment and ESPN, facilitating company-wide efficiencies and creating a more cost-effective, coordinated, and streamlined approach to operations. These include Product and Technology, led by Aaron LaBerge; Advertising Sales, led by Rita Ferro; and Platform Distribution led by Justin Connolly excluding Theatrical Distribution and Music, which will be overseen by Bergman.

Outside of North America, the company’s media, entertainment, and sports content and operations will continue to be managed regionally by Luke Kang, President Asia Pacific; Jan Koeppen, President EMEA; Diego Lerner, President LATAM; and K Madhavan, President India. These leaders will report to Bergman, Walden, and Pitaro as part of their global responsibilities. As a result of the changes, Rebecca Campbell, Chairman, International Content and Operations, has decided to leave the Company.  An esteemed leader and longtime industry veteran, Campbell will stay on through June to help with the transition.

Disney Parks, Experiences and Products — encompassing the company’s award-winning theme parks, cruise line, resort destinations and Adventures by Disney and National Geographic Expeditions, as well as Disney’s global consumer products, games, and publishing businesses — will continue under the leadership of Chairman Josh D’Amaro.

The organizational changes will be implemented immediately, and the company will begin reporting financial results under the new business structure by the end of the fiscal year.

Alan Bergman – Co-Chairman, Disney Entertainment 

Alan Bergman is Co-Chairman for Disney Entertainment, along with Dana Walden. Together, they are responsible for The Walt Disney Company’s full portfolio of entertainment media and content business globally, including streaming. This includes accountability for content creation, sales and distribution, marketing, operations and technology. Bergman was previously Chairman, Disney Studios Content, responsible for the Studios division, including Disney Theatrical Productions. Prior to that, Bergman was Co-Chairman of The Walt Disney Studios from 2019 to 2020, and its President from 2005 to 2019.

Dana Walden – Co-Chairman, Disney Entertainment 

Dana Walden is Co-Chairman for Disney Entertainment, along with Alan Bergman. Together, they are responsible for The Walt Disney Company’s full portfolio of entertainment media and content business globally, including streaming. This includes accountability for content creation, sales and distribution, marketing, operations and technology. Pitaro is also responsible for the Company’s full portfolio of sports content, products and experiences across all of Disney’s platforms worldwide, including content creation, sports rights acquisitions, distribution and marketing. Previously, Pitaro was ESPN President and Co-Chair, Disney Media Networks, after serving as Chairman of Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media, starting in 2016.  He joined the Company in 2010 to lead Disney’s Interactive segment.

Josh D’Amaro – Chairman, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products

15 men brought to military enlistment office after mass brawl in Moscow Oblast

Local security forces brought 15 men to a military enlistment office after a mass brawl at a warehouse of the Russian Wildberries company in Elektrostal, Moscow Oblast on Feb. 8, Russian Telegram channel Shot reported .

Paramount leaders unveil “shared vision” amid takeover offer.

Amid the corporate uncertainty, the studio’s new co-CEOs outlined their plan for the company during their annual shareholder meeting.

Paramount Global ’s new trio of co-CEOs laid out their vision for the Hollywood studio as the controlling shareholder, Shari Redstone, mulls a sweetened takeover offer from a buyer consortium led by Skydance and RedBird Capital.

Redstone addressed the investors as the meeting began, indicating the company’s most important goal was “driving value for all our shareholders,” which would come by reducing overall debt to strengthen the balance sheet and continue to invest in “best-in-class content.”

This opened the way for the new trio of executives – George Cheeks, president and CEO of CBS; Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios; and Brian Robbins, president and CEO of Paramount Pictures – to outline a “shared vision” for the studio.

“Our plan looks forward to build back the best of Paramount by delivering higher revenue with lower costs, which translates to higher earnings and better returns,” Robbins told shareholders. He added the studio had a strength in franchises that did not rely on superheroes to address an increasingly crowded streaming landscape that was “frankly more confusing for the consumer.”

“What sets Paramount’s franchises apart from the rest of the industry is that we aren’t dependent on any one genre. We saw the downsides of betting on a single genre like superheroes and comic books. So we built our billion dollar brand strategy with a focus on real life heroes and, yes, a little yellow sponge named Bob,” Robbins told investors.

He added Paramount could hardly rest on its laurels. “We know we need to do more. We need to accelerate our path to profitability. And that’s why we’re hard at work on a plan that’s going to do exactly that, but first reducing our expenses, integrating our teams more closely and reducing redundancies,” Robbins explained.

That theme was also taken up by Robbins, who said “we’ll optimize our asset mix and use the proceeds to pay down debt. Taken together, these actions will drive shareholder value by improving profitability and returning the company to investment grade metrics over time.”

The meeting took place against the backdrop of Redstone and her National Amusements vehicle looking at a revised deal for the studio, and her own options. Cheeks, McCarthy and Robbins have led the studio since the previous CEO, Bob Bakish, left Paramount in April when the company began exclusive merger talks with Skydance.

If Redstone rejects the revised offer from Skydance, she could continue to have the new triumvirate run the company, look at other deals (like Sony/Apollo), or sell National Amusements outright to someone else and let the buyer figure out what to do with Paramount.

Jamie Morris, head of investor relations at Paramount, addressed the current takeover talks during the AGM. “We cannot comment on the speculation. What I can tell you is that the presentation that you just saw was built to improve the company’s balance sheets, to best set it up for growth and to drive shareholder value, regardless of the speculation,” he said.

McCarthy added during the Q&A portion of the meeting: “We’re aggressively pursuing all options to make the most of our content and drive the greatest value for the company, in both the short and long term.”

And Cheeks addressed the proposal for $500 million in annual cost savings. “Look, we’re prepared to move quickly on the cost reductions, we’re confident that the business can be run much more efficiently,” as he pointed to a management streamlining and reducing costs in real estate, technology, marketing and other studio roles.

Cheeks also talked up the benefits of streaming bundles after Paramount+ and Showtime were earlier packaged together. “Bundling our streaming and linear products has many benefits. It expands the reach and engagement of our Paramount+ ad-supported tier, lowers customer acquisition costs and yields much lower churn,” he argued.
