The management field is vast and interrelated to many other academic disciplines like operations management , business , business administration , MBA , human resource management and more. That is why creating a management dissertation topic that is particular, sound, and actually solves a practical problem that may be rampant in the field is imperative.

There are several significant downfalls to getting your topic wrong; your supervisor may not be interested in working on it, the topic has no academic creditability, the research may not make logical sense, there is a possibility that the study is not viable.

This impacts your time and efforts in writing your dissertation , as you may end up in the cycle of rejection at the initial stage of the dissertation. That is why we recommend reviewing existing research to develop a topic, taking advice from your supervisor, and even asking for help in this particular stage of your dissertation.

Keeping our advice in mind while developing a research topic will allow you to pick one of the best management dissertation topics that fulfil your requirement of writing a research paper and adds to the body of knowledge.

Therefore, it is recommended that when finalizing your dissertation topic, you read recently published literature to identify gaps in the research that you may help fill.

Remember- dissertation topics need to be unique, solve an identified problem, be logical, and be practically implemented. Please look at some of our sample management dissertation topics to get an idea for your own dissertation.

That is to say, to create a top-notch research topic, you must be precise and target a specific context with specific variables of interest . In this type of assignment, students have to develop many coordination skills and fairness in dealing with various projects. Since various tasks differ in line with their functional procedures, you have to dig deeper to determine how each yields direct and proportional earnings in the end.

Does all these sound like rocket science to you? Well, the next few lines will make you understand this subject better.

Key Points About A Project Management Thesis

There are different steps involved in writing a project management paper. These will contribute to the body paragraphs’ overall quality, length, and depth. The various practices involved in project management include:

When you bring all these processes together, you can achieve a particular goal or specific success within the set time. That brings us to a critical component of project management – time!

Every project has a given time frame within which it is complete. It is the primary challenge as time constraints are always when unexpected issues arise. However, with practice, time will not be a factor anymore; it will be the motivation for completing a particular project.

Moreover, the capabilities of GenAI can mitigate various hindrances to effective performance that knowledge workers may encounter in their jobs, including time pressure, gaps in knowledge and skills, and negative feelings (such as boredom stemming from repetitive tasks or frustration arising from interactions with dissatisfied customers). Empirical research and field observations have already begun to reveal the value of GenAI capabilities and their potential for job crafting.

There is an expectation that implementing new and emerging Generative AI (GenAI) tools enhances the effectiveness and competitiveness of organizations. This belief is evidenced by current and planned investments in GenAI tools, especially by firms in knowledge-intensive industries such as finance, healthcare, and entertainment, among others. According to forecasts, enterprise spending on GenAI will increase by two-fold in 2024 and grow to $151.1 billion by 2027 .

AI can take over key management roles in scientific research, shows study

by Kim Matthies, European School of Management and Technology (ESMT)

robot boss

New research from ESMT Berlin shows how AI can manage human participants in large-scale research projects, taking over functions such as task allocation, coordination, and motivation.

Researchers Maximilian Koehler, Ph.D. candidate at ESMT, and Henry Sauermann, professor of strategy at ESMT, explore the role of AI, not as a "worker" performing specific research tasks such as data collection and analysis, but as a "manager" of human workers performing such tasks. Algorithmic management (AM) suggests a significant shift in the way research projects are conducted and can enable projects to operate at larger scale and efficiency.

With the complexity and scope of scientific research rapidly increasing, the study, published in Research Policy , illustrates that AI can not only replicate but also potentially surpass human managers by leveraging its instantaneous, comprehensive, and interactive capabilities.

Investigating algorithmic management in crowd and citizen science, Koehler and Sauermann discuss examples of how AI effectively performs five important managerial functions: task division and allocation, direction, coordination, motivation, and supporting learning.

The researchers investigated projects through online documents; by interviewing organizers, AI developers, and project participants; and by joining some projects as participants. This allowed the researchers to identify projects that use algorithmic management, to understand how AI performs management functions, and to explore when AM might be more effective.

The growing number of use cases suggests that the adoption of AM could be a critical factor in improving research productivity. "The capabilities of artificial intelligence have reached a point where AI can now significantly enhance the scope and efficiency of scientific research by managing complex, large-scale projects," states Koehler.

In a quantitative comparison with a broader sample of projects, the study also reveals that AM-enabled projects are often larger than projects that do not use AM and are associated with platforms that provide access to shared AI tools. This suggests that AM may enable projects to scale but also requires technical infrastructures that stand-alone projects may find difficult to develop.

These patterns point towards changing sources of competitive advantage in research and may have important implications for research funders, digital research platforms, and larger research organizations such as universities or corporate R&D labs.

Although AI can take over important management functions, this does not mean that principal investigators or human managers will become obsolete. Sauermann notes, "If AI can take over some of the more algorithmic and mundane functions of management, human leaders could shift their attention to more strategic and social tasks such as identifying high-value research targets, raising funding, or building an effective organizational culture."

About this Research Topic

Building on the success of Infectious Diseases and Hematology: Diagnosis and Management , we are pleased to relaunch Volume II of this Research Topic. Diagnostic and therapeutic advances in hematological diseases have undergone a real revolution in recent years. In the field of oncohematology numerous treatments have been approved, and most of them have generated acquired immunosuppression along with other severe adverse effects. Infectious complications secondary to this acquired immunosuppression continue to be one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in this type of patients. So their accurate prevention, diagnosis, and treatment are essential pillars for the successful treatment of hematological diseases. Similarly, treatment of non-oncohematological diseases, such as immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), warm antibody autoimmune hemolytic anemia (wAIHA), or thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), sometimes requires applying immunosuppressive therapies that lead to infectious complications in a considerable number of patients. Finally, some diseases, such as congenital qualitative or quantitative alterations of the white blood cell, marrow failure, or other less frequent hemopathies, affect the risk of potentially severe infectious complications. The goal of this Research Topic is to increase knowledge in the proper management of infectious diseases in hematological patients in accordance with current scientific evidence, issuing some practical recommendations that allow health professionals who care for these patients to improve their clinical practice skills. Likewise, this Research Topic aims to condense the new prevention, diagnostic and therapeutic strategies in infectious diseases and the hematological patient. This collection of articles shall also present recent advances in the diagnosis and management of infectious diseases in non-neoplastic hematological diseases and strategies to minimize the risk of infection according to the therapy applied in each case. The following themes may be included: - Epidemiology of infectious diseases in the hematological patient - Diagnostic methods of infections in hematology - General criteria for managing infections in the context of the hematological patient - Erythropathology and infectious diseases - Diseases of the myeloid system and infections - Diseases of the lymphoid system and infections - Marrow failure and infections - Immune diseases of hemostasis and hemotherapy and infections - Transmission, prevention, and treatment of infections associated with transfusion of blood components. - Diagnosis and management of infections in the context of hematopoietic transplantation and cell therapy - Management of infections associated with new therapies in hematology (CAR-T, immune checkpoint...)

The game-based research is growing in popularity, however, the number of game elements available to designers is still limited. As an alternative of incorporating novel design approaches derived from games, researchers and practitioners tend to focus on points, badges, and leader boards. The purpose of this paper is to explore adverse effects of using gamification elements in online communities by employing the criteria of Arksey and O'Malley (Int J Soc Res Methodol 8(1):19–32, 2005) five-stage framework that underpins the scoping review approach. Specifically, this paper helps to advance the current knowledge of adverse effects of using gamification elements in online communities in two ways. It highlights (1) a wide variety of areas in which adverse effects of using gamification elements in online communities has been examined, emphasising the rising popularity of the topic, (2) a collection of themes that summarise the organisational level strategies in responding to adverse effects of using gamification elements in online communities.

Human Resource Management and the Range of Research Paper Topics

Human Resource Management (HRM) is an interdisciplinary field that integrates aspects of management, psychology, sociology, economics, and legal studies. It is the art and science of managing people within an organization to maximize their performance, well-being, and alignment with strategic goals. As a broad and multifaceted domain, HRM opens doors to a wide array of research opportunities. This article will explore the essence of HRM, its historical evolution, theoretical frameworks, practical applications, and the myriad of research paper topics it offers.

Historical Background

The history of HRM can be traced back to the early 20th century, during the rise of the industrial revolution. The scientific management theory introduced by Frederick Taylor sought to apply scientific principles to worker productivity. As the business environment grew more complex, the Hawthorne studies emerged, highlighting the importance of social factors and human relations in the workplace. The evolution from personnel management to modern HRM reflects a shift from viewing employees as mere resources to recognizing them as valuable assets.

Theoretical Frameworks

HRM is underpinned by several key theories that guide practice:

  • Resource-Based View (RBV): Emphasizes the role of human resources as a competitive advantage.
  • Equity Theory: Focuses on fairness and justice in employee relations.
  • Expectancy Theory: Explains how employees are motivated by the expected outcomes of their actions.
  • Human Capital Theory: Regards employees as assets whose value can be enhanced through training and development.

These theories offer diverse perspectives for research, ranging from organizational behavior to strategic HRM.

Key Functions and Practices

The scope of HRM encompasses various functions that address the needs of both the organization and its employees:

  • Recruitment and Selection: Designing and implementing processes to attract and hire suitable candidates.
  • Training and Development: Enhancing employee skills and knowledge through continuous learning.
  • Performance Management: Assessing and managing employee performance to align with organizational goals.
  • Compensation and Benefits: Structuring pay and rewards to motivate and retain talent.
  • Labor Relations: Navigating the legal landscape and fostering healthy employee-employer relationships.

Contemporary Challenges

Modern HRM faces several challenges that provide fertile grounds for research:

  • Diversity and Inclusion: Creating a workforce that represents various backgrounds, beliefs, and perspectives.
  • Technology and Automation: Leveraging technology to enhance HR processes while considering its impact on jobs.
  • Globalization: Managing HR practices across different cultures and jurisdictions.
  • Ethical Considerations: Balancing organizational needs with ethical treatment of employees.

Emerging Trends

The ever-changing business landscape leads to new trends in HRM:

  • Remote Work: The rise of virtual workplaces and the associated management challenges.
  • Well-Being and Mental Health: Prioritizing employee health and well-being as part of HR strategy.
  • Sustainability: Integrating social responsibility into HR practices.

Range of Research Paper Topics

The complexity and diversity of HRM lead to an abundance of research paper topics. Here are examples from different areas:

  • Strategic HRM: Examining the alignment of HR practices with business strategy.
  • Employee Engagement: Exploring factors that influence engagement and its impact on performance.
