R&D/Research and Development Manager Job Description Template

We are looking for a smart and talented Research and Development Manager who can perform several important roles within our organization. Senior Manager – R&D for GAIA India shall manage teams that will be working on high impact initiatives with other specialists in Machine Intelligence to drive growth and economic profitability for Ericsson and its customers by accelerating current Ericsson offerings as well create new offerings in the areas of MI driven 4G and 5G network, distributed cloud, IoT and other emerging businesses. As an R&D Manager, he/she shall have two job roles – the primary role of a Product Development Leader and the mandatory secondary role of a Line Manager for R&D teams.  Line Manager is a role in the line organization (the operational organization), with the purpose to manage their area of responsibility. He/she shall have one, or more, sub-ordinates and are appointed by a superior manager and approved by the appointees. What education and training is required?

A master’s degree in the field in which you are applying your knowledge (ex. agriculture, food science, chemistry, biology, agronomy etc.).

The following high school courses are recommended:  agricultural education, mathematics, biology, chemistry, business courses and computer courses

About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Development Manager to lead a dedicated, specialist team providing research development support to a highly professional standard for academics in the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences. You will personally focus on developing high quality, high value strategic bids, building strong relationships with key academics, whilst leading a team providing expert bid and costing guidance across a broad range of applications to a variety of funders including government funding bodies, industry and charitable organisations. You will interact with academic and professional services colleagues across the university in supporting interdisciplinary collaboration and will interrogate research performance data, developing insights to inform and support faculty leadership decisions.

  • Professionally qualified with a relevant degree/post graduate qualification with relevant research/industry or research funding environment.
  • A highly confident communicator and demonstrate effective problem-solving and decision-making skills. 
  • Excellent understanding of emerging research funding priorities and trends and be adept at horizon scanning and sharing funding intelligence. 
  • Able to look at a complex scenario and draw out the essentials – and be absolutely focused on doing what it takes to deliver a successful outcome.   
  • Truly collegiate, able to demonstrate leadership skills and the ability to think on your feet in a fast-paced environment.
