Ronald Rose is the new GHMC commissioner

HYDERABAD: The State government has appointed senior bureaucrat Ronald Rose as the new Commissioner for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). He will take charge as commissioner on Wednesday at 11.30 am.

Ronald Rose, a 2006-batch IAS officer will come in place of DS Lokesh Kumar, who was recently posted as Additional Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) by the Election Commission of India (ECI), in the wake of upcoming Assembly elections later this year.

Ross earlier held the post of Secretary to the Finance Department. He also served as GHMC Zonal Commissioner of Central Zone from February 2014 to July 2014. Later, he served as GHMC Additional Commissioner (Planning, Projects, Heritage, Traffic and Transportation) from June 2013 to February 2014. He has also been the District Collector in Mahbubnagar, Medak and Nizamabad districts.

Stayed in Telangana

Meanwhile, Sarfaraz Ahmad who served as Director of Prohibition and Excise department has been posted as Joint Chief Electoral Officer. Rose was allocated to the Andhra Pradesh cadre after the formation of the Telangana State in 2014. However, he along with other bureaucrats continued to stay with Telangana by getting clearance from the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT).  The Union government has filed a petition against the CAT order in Telangana High Court.

IAS Ronald Rose Named GHMC Chief

Hyderabad : Ronald Rose, a 2006 batch IAS officer, was on Tuesday named GHMC chief, replacing Lokesh Kumar who held the post for a record three years.

Rose, currently secretary, finance, was with the GHMC from 2012 to 2014 and his contribution to town planning is remembered. During that period he worked in various zones of GHMC, including Khairatabad.

Tamil Nadu-born Ross had bagged a job in the after completing his BCom from Madras University. Keen to be a civil servant, he cracked the UPSC exam.

Ross’ first posting in July 2007 was as assistant collector at the land revenue office at Hyderabad. In September 2008, he was transferred as sub-collector of Narsapur, as project officer of the ITDA (Intergrated Tribal Development Agency) at Rampachodavaram in Feburary 2010 and as additional CEO of rural development in the panchayat raj department in August 2011.

Hyderabad: In a major reshuffle, four IAS officers in Telangana are transferred and given postings.

On Tuesday, the order was released by Chief Secretary to the Government, Santhi Kumari, on behalf of the Governor of Telangana.

Md. Musharraf Ali Faruqui, IAS officer from the 2014 batch, has been assigned the position of Director of Prohibition & Excise.

Ronald Rose, an IAS officer from the 2006 batch is appointed as the new Commissioner of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

Ronald Rose will assume the role of GHMC Commissioner, taking over from Lokesh Kumar D.S., who has been transferred to the position of Additional Chief Electoral Officer in the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Telangana, Hyderabad.

Having previously served as the Secretary to the Government in the Finance Department, Ronald Rose brings an of experience to his new position. His appointment is expected to enhance the administration and governance of the GHMC, responsible for overseeing the civic affairs of Hyderabad.

Sarfaraz Ahmad, an IAS officer from the 2009 batch, who has been serving as Director of Prohibition & Excise is now appointed as the Joint Chief Electoral Officer in the Office of the CEO, Hyderabad.

Ronald Rose took charge as the new Commissioner for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Wednesday

Hyderabad: Ronald Rose took charge as the new Commissioner for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Wednesday. He took over charge from D Lokesh Kumar who was the former GHMC Commissioner.

Ronald Rose, who had earlier served as Finance Secretary, was appointed as the GHMC Commissioner by the State government. Lokesh Kumar, who worked as GHMC Commissioner, has been appointed as the Additional CEO of State Elections on the recommendation of the Central Election Commission.

Ronald paid a courtesy call to Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi after taking charge as new Commissioner. Later, he also called on MA&UD Minister K T Rama Rao and Special Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar.

On this occasion, HODs, zonal and deputy commissioners of the respective departments met Ronald Rose.

Ronald previously worked as Medak, Nizamabad, Mahabubnagar District Collector, Finance Secretary, Gurukula School Secretary, Additional Commissioner and Zonal Commissioner in GHMC.

On this occasion EVDM Director Prakash Reddy, ENC Zia Uddin, Additional Commissioners Priyanka Ala, V Krishna, Saroja, Vijayalakshmi, Jayaraj Kennedy, HRDCL CE Sarojini Devi, Project CE Devanand, CC P Devender Reddy, Chief Examiner Venkateswara Reddy, Additional CPs, OSDs, CM&HO, CPRO, Joint Commissioners and others were also present.

Ronald Rose is a 2006 cadre Indian Administrative officer. [1] He started his career in Telangana Government by working for the welfare of tribals in the remote areas of the state. Later he was posted in Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad as Zonal Commissioner for few years. He was also deputed as Nizamabad District Collector. He ensured completion of drinking water project in Narayanakhed, which is in remote part of Telangana state solving the water requirement for 50,000 people staying in that area.

• Helping contribution towards afforestation programmes by planting saplings under Haritha Haaram programme. Mahbubnagar district planted 3.4 crore saplings with each village being supplied 40000 saplings.
• Driving initiatives employing differently-abled persons towards manufacture of solar mini-lights and production of sustainable, efficient, affordable, effective, energy-efficient and non-polluting products for rural areas of district under Divyang Solar Society.
• Implementing drinking water scheme in needful villages.
• Promoting digital learning in schools.
• Promoting religious harmony among people of district.
• Tying up with United Nations Development Programme for selling the organic products.
• Setting up ziplining, zip-cycling, archery and ropeway sport facilities Mayuri Ecopark based in Mahbubnagar district. [13] Zip-Cycling track with 270 metres is longest in India.
• Making efforts to revive a 700-year-old banyan tree, Pillalamarri, in district.

• Making efforts to revive old temples in Medak during his tenure as District Magistrate, Medak. [14]
• Initiating measures on organic farming called "Bhusanjeevini".
• Creating self-employment opportunities in rural areas.
• At least 50 farmers from each mandal of district were encouraged by his administration to cultivate atleast 1 acre of their land using organic farming methods.
• Farmers were provided organic fertilisers consisting of jeevamrutham, panchagavya, vermicompost, at 50 percent subsidy.
• Organic farming training to farmers and agricultural officers.

• Enhancing the district amenities in the areas of welfare of women, Children education and improving medical facilities.
• By involving the local villagers and other Government officials he created a system of participative governance.
• Invited suggestions from local people.
• Ensuring Government officials get support for performing their roles.
• Improving drinking water facilities, Sanitation, adopting heealthy lifestyle through nutritional food, children education.
• Made efforts in eradicating poverty, improving social security, promoting agriculture, developing village infrastructure, awareness on utilisation of natural resources in the area.
• Initiated measures for removal of fraudulent Elector Photo ID Card (EPIC) card holders from electoral rolls.
• Awareness programmes for participating in elections and voting responsibly.
• Initiating measures towards conducting elections.

His wife works as Director in Telangana Postal Department [11] and has a daughter. He was born in Tamilnadu and likes reading books and gardening and involves in adventure and outdoor sporting.

Special Secretary for Finance Ronald Rose has been placed in full additional charge of the post of Secretary of TSWREIS until further orders

Hyderabad : The Telangana government on Tuesday approved the request of senior IPS officer RS Praveen Kumar for voluntary retirement and relieved him from the post of Secretary of Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS). Special Secretary for Finance Ronald Rose has been placed in full additional charge of the post of Secretary of TSWREIS until further orders.

Praveen Kumar who led the trailblazing tribal and social welfare residential institution movement in Telangana, has resigned from government service on Monday, after 26 years of service as an IPS officer. He revealed his plans to spend the rest of his life to fulfill the unfinished dreams of the ‘doyens of social justice’ – the Mahatma Phule couple, Dr. BR Ambedkar and Kanshiram.

How ‘Scarface’ started slow but conquered the world

In “The World Is Yours,” critic Glenn Kenny writes about the making of a remake starring Al Pacino.

Tony Montana, an uncouth, narcissistic, swaggering outsider, fought his way to the inside, rose to the top and then burned everything down in a violent, paranoia-driven attempt to retain power. Any prescient resemblance to a now-omnipresent political figure was strictly coincidence. The fictitious Miami drug lord played by Al Pacino in Brian De Palma’s controversial crime thriller “Scarface” (1983) suffered a bloody execution in the film’s over-the-top, practically balletic concluding gun battle.

A similar fate nearly befell the movie itself, an ambitious, nearly three-hour remake of the Howard Hawks noir classic from 1932. De Palma’s version, made for between $25 million and $37 million (depending on who you ask), took in less than $5 million at the box office on opening weekend. It elicited some snarling reviews — Pauline Kael called it a “crude, ritualized melodrama” — and was assailed by charges of racial stereotyping.

But unlike its Cuban-born protagonist, the film lived to see another day and subsequently became a bestseller on video, inspiring generations of hip-hop artists, spawning popular video games and enjoying a theatrical rerelease on its 35th anniversary. Its best-known catch phrase — “Say hello to my little friend,” uttered by Montana while brandishing his AR-15 with a jerry-rigged grenade launcher attached during that cataclysmic final shootout — will apparently live on forever. (Most recently, it’s the title of a new comic novel by Jennine Capó Crucet about a character who aspires to be Montana-like.) Even in today’s Little Havana, posters, T-shirts and wall clocks emblazoned with Montana’s face or the “Scarface” movie poster are as ubiquitous as guava pastries.

The genesis, creation and afterlife of “Scarface” make for a fascinating, surprisingly complex tale, engagingly told by Glenn Kenny in “The World Is Yours: The Story of Scarface.” Kenny, a New York-based critic who has also written a making-of book about another notable crime film, Martin Scorsese’s “Goodfellas,” and a study of one of that movie’s stars, Robert De Niro, offers what amounts to a hybrid full-length biography of a movie. Drawing from new and old interviews, he offers extensive stage-setting and pop-culture context along with thoughtful film analysis, sections that feel like oral history and a few extended detours.

“Prohibition invented the American gangster movie,” Kenny writes. Similarly, President Ronald Reagan’s war on drugs paved the way for the likes of the “Scarface” remake. The cocaine cowboys from the land of “Miami Vice,” an international crossroads for drug distributors, replaced the Chicago-based Italian American bootleggers and gun runners of the Hawks movie.

The ’83 “Scarface” got its start thanks to Pacino, who decided he wanted to star in a remake after seeing the Hawks film for the first time. “He was struck by its real, positively grand feeling and especially by (Paul) Muni’s tremendous performance,” according to Pacino biographer Andrew Yule. The actor then contacted his old friend Martin Bregman, a producer with whom Pacino had worked on “Serpico” and “Dog Day Afternoon.” Sidney Lumet, director of both of those films, signed on and made the suggestion to give the story a Miami-and-cocaine makeover before leaving the project, reportedly over creative differences: He had planned to focus on the story’s political aspects — the cocaine wars, the alleged involvement of the CIA and the DEA in the drug trade, and the impact of all the above on the relationship between the United States and Cuba. Enter De Palma, who “had this idea about turning it into an opera … that it should be bigger than life,” as Pacino said during a public appearance last year. Oliver Stone, tapped to write the screenplay, went to Paris to work in relative seclusion. He envisioned Montana as an industrious businessman who just happened to operate on the wrong side of the law. As the Oscar-winning director of “Platoon” and “Born on the Fourth of July” told Kenny: “Tony Montana is the ultimate, ultimate free-market proponent. Sort of the Milton Friedman of cocaine economics.”

Kenny spikes his entertaining narrative with plenty of amusing, frequently insightful observations and anecdotes about the world that made “Scarface” and the world that “Scarface” made. That notorious death-by-chainsaw scene, which caused novelists Kurt Vonnegut and John Irving to walk out of preview screenings? It was inspired by Stone’s discussions in the Bahamas with real-life Gangland types. The Pacino-fueled rumor that De Palma’s pal Steven Spielberg “had a crack” at shooting a portion of the final symphony of gunfire? Never happened, De Palma says. The movie’s continuing hold on hip-hop artists? Montana “makes things happen. Things don’t just happen to him, and he really is a self-made man,” music critic Harry Allen explains.

“The World Is Yours” isn’t the first book-length examination of “Scarface”; Nat Segaloff’s “Say Hello to My Little Friend” was published last year, following Ken Tucker’s “Scarface Nation” in 2008. But Kenny’s book comes off as authoritative, the final word on the subject. At least for now.
