Halo, Sobat Zenius! Apa kabar, nih? Sesuai dengan judul artikel di atas, maka sekarang gue akan membahas materi caption kelas 12 yang masuk dalam salah satu materi dalam mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris. 

Sebelum lebih jauh, elo tentu sudah nggak asing kan dengan istilah caption text dan struktur atau cara menyajikannya? 

Di zaman modern sekarang, kayaknya kita semua udah punya yang namanya akun sosmed deh. Nah lewat sosmed ini ada bagian namanya caption. 

Biasanya kalo elo posting foto di Instagram terus di bawah foto tersebut terdapat tulisan kecil yang berisi keterangan. Nah, tulisan itulah yang disebut dengan  caption text! 

Caption text juga bisa elo temuin saat membaca sebuah artikel entah itu lewat internet, majalah, ataupun koran yang mencantumkan foto.

Dan walaupun berukuran kecil dan singkat, keberadaan  caption text  ini sangat dibutuhkan, lho. Biar gak semakin bingung, mending elo langsung baca aja materi ini mulai dari struktur teks caption sampai contohnya di bawah ini ya!

Definisi Caption Text

Nah, di bagian ini gue akan mengulas struktur teks caption. Mungkin elo ada yang bertanya-tanya nih, “Kenapa sih, kita harus memahami struktur  caption text?  Bukannya, tinggal asal nulis aja, ya?” 

Eitss, gak gitu ya konsepnya! Memahami struktur  caption text  itu penting agar kita bisa menjelaskan sebuah gambar atau foto dengan baik kepada pembaca.

1. unsur kebahasaan (recommended style).

Materi caption Bahasa Inggris ini juga akan mengajarkan elo mengenai  unsur kebahasaan  yang tepat dalam penulisan caption text.

Terlebih dahulu, coba deh perhatikan poin-poin di bawah ini.

• Present Tense: Saat menulis caption text disarankan untuk menggunakan present tense karena kalian akan menerangkan informasi yang aktual dan fakta.
• Active Voice: Selain itu, disarankan juga menggunakan active voice karena lebih mudah dipahami dibandingkan passive voice.
• Credit: Ini berguna untuk menerangkan tentang identitas si fotografer, seperti nama dan tempat ia bekerja.

Terus, boleh gak sih, pake  past tense  dalam penulisan  caption text?  

Well,  sebenarnya sah-sah saja, tetapi akan lebih baik jika Sobat Zenius menggunakan  present tense  agar lebih mudah dimengerti oleh pembaca.

2. How to Make a Successful Caption?

Di bagian awal tadi elo udah tau kalo ada tiga fungsi caption text yaitu sebagai pemberi informasi, menambah kredibilitas hingga membuat orang tertarik untuk memahami isi foto.

Nah, untuk bisa mencapai ketiga fungsi di atas, hanya bisa diwujudkan ketika elo buat caption text yang bagus. Berikut ini adalah caranya:

• Avoid stating the obvious: Sebagai contoh, di dalam sebuah foto memperlihatkan seseorang yang sedang duduk. Nah, jika begitu, tanpa harus diberi keterangan pembaca pun sudah memahami jika orang tersebut sedang duduk, guys. So, kalian gak perlu menulisnya lagi di dalam caption.
• Identify people and places: Perlu diingat, nih, selalu identifikasi orang-orang atau nama tempat yang ada di dalam sebuah foto. Misalnya, menjelaskan siapa orang yang ada di foto tersebut dan cantumkan juga nama tempatnya.
• Get everything right, including the spellings: Pastikan semua informasi yang ada di dalam caption tepat, ya, termasuk juga dengan ejaannya. Ini dilakukan supaya kredibilitas kita terjaga. Selain itu, usahakan juga untuk tidak menggunakan kata-kata yang rumit atau sulit dimengerti.

How to Caption a Pie Chart

Sobat Zenius pasti pernah mendengar dong istilah  pie charts?  Pie chart merupakan salah satu jenis diagram yang digunakan untuk mengilustrasikan sebuah data agar lebih mudah dimengerti. 

Kira-kira gimana sih, cara membuat  caption text untuk  pie chart? 

Nah, coba Sobat Zenius perhatikan cara-cara di bawah ini.

• Be clear and concise: Di dalam penulisan caption untuk pie chart haruslah jelas dan singkat. Caranya yaitu dengan tidak menggunakan articles (a/an/the) dan tidak menggunakan kata adjectives yang tidak penting.
• Punctuation and capitalization: Selalu perhatikan penggunaan huruf kapital pada judul. Jika kalian menggunakan huruf kapital, maka harus konsisten.
• Give relevant details: Nah, ingat juga untuk memberikan informasi yang penting saja

Jenis lainnya adalah membuat caption dari data dalam tabel. Umumnya, tabel digunakan untuk memberi informasi yang lebih detail, nih,  guys! 

Contohnya seperti di bawah ini: 

Terus, gimana sih, caranya menulis caption text untuk tabel? Well, elo bisa lihat cara di bawah ini:

• It acts as a title and topic of the sentence: Bersifat sebagai judul dan topik tentang informasi tabel tersebut.
• It is placed above the table: Letakkan caption di atas tabel.
• It should be clear and concise: Pastikan singkat dan jelas, tidak menggunakan articles (a/an/the) dan tidak menggunakan kata yang tidak penting. Selain itu, jangan gunakan caption yang menjelaskan hasil atau outcome dari tabel tersebut.
• Use relevant information: Gunakan informasi yang relevan dan penting saja.

Penulisan akademik memiliki bentuk yang jelas, formal, dan paragrafnya juga terstruktur. Sementara itu, di jurnalistik, umumnya paragrafnya pendek dan strukturnya lebih fleksibel.

Kemudian, dilihat dari pembacanya, keduanya juga mempunyai pembaca yang berbeda, lho! 

Target pembaca tulisan akademik adalah guru, dosen, dan mahasiswa yang memiliki tujuan untuk mencari ilmu. Oleh karena itu, karya ilmiah biasanya dibuat bukan untuk menghibur, nih,  guys!  Namun, tujuan dari  caption text  ini untuk menyajikan informasi yang akurat.

Sementara itu, tulisan jurnalistik umumnya dibuat di surat kabar, blog, majalah, dan lain-lain. 

Nah, biasanya para pembacanya cenderung malas membaca sehingga bagian-bagian penting biasanya diletakkan di awal artikel agar mudah terlihat.

and my fellow friends of grade 12

In the name of Allah, the most gracious, the most merciful.

All Praise and thanks be to Allah, for giving us His mercy and guidance, enabling us to gather here together in the farewell ceremony of the grade 12 students of Bina Bangsa Senior High School who have successfully completed their final examination. Not forgetting, peace and blessings be upon the Prophet Muhammad saw. and upon his family, companions, and who followed them until the Day of Judgment.

On this special occasion, please allow me on behalf of the grade 12 students to say a few words in this farewell ceremony.

First, I would like to thank all of the committees for all their hard work in making this event possible. This event makes us realize that we all have accomplished one of the major milestones of our lives, which is high school graduation. This event brings emotions to each of our hearts: sadness, but pride.

We feel sad because we must say goodbye to this school, to all members of this school who have been sharing beautiful memories together during three years studying here. It seems like only yesterday that we were little freshmen who signed up on the registration day and started introducing each other on the first day of school orientation days, how did it all go so fast?

However, we also feel proud that we finally made this accomplishment. All the hard work has finally paid off and did not go to waste. We also realize that without help and support from all parties, we could not have made it to this treasured day.

On behalf of my fellow friends of grade 12, from the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank all the teachers of Bina Bangsa Senior High School for patiently teaching us all useful courses. Although we might not do well in the course we were supposed to do, we got a lot of valuable lessons from you.

To my parents, the word “thank you” doesn’t do enough justice. You all have done so much for me, not just in the last three years, but for my entire life. You have been there for me through everything that has ever happened in my life. Thank you for pushing me toward my dreams, thank you for making me believe that I am capable of achieving my goals, and thank you for all the sacrifices you have made to ensure proper education for me.

Finally, to my fellow friends, thank you so much for the beautiful memories you gave me behind. And now here we stand. Our journey has just begun. The road that lies ahead may not be easy.

There will be problems and obstacles we face. There will be times when each of us will feel like we cannot possibly go on. But that doesn’t mean we can give up on ourselves. There will be infinite choices available to us but we do need to find our own path, to build our futures.

Some of us may go to college, others may go straight into the workforce, but each of us will travel our own path. Wherever we go and whatever we do, I hope we can reach our goals and fulfill our dreams and I hope we be friends when we meet again.

To end my speech, allow me to recite prayers to Allah for all graduates here:

“O Allah, we gather now in the farewell ceremony of grade 12 students. We pray for smoothness in this transition in life. Help us to remember that you are in total control and that everything that happens is for a purpose.

Help us never to forget that in life you have a plan for each one of us and it’s our job to seek your will and carry it out. Help us to take away our selfish egos and our pride. Help us to always see the big picture that you are painting for us. Amen.”
