What Is a Career Essay?

A career essay is a text people write to detail their goals or plans for the future. In this essay, people talk about the career they want in the future and the things they have achieved so far. People often ask you to write a career essay when you send an application letter for a scholarship or submit your resume for a job.

How To Write a Rousing Career Essay

You should write your career essay seriously because it might be a deciding factor for your future. That said, in writing your essay, there are a lot of things to consider and a process you need to follow. Your end goal in writing your essay is to convince people that you are determined to walk the talk and make the things you wrote in your descriptive essay to reality.

1. Devise an Engrossing Title

The first thing to think about when writing an essay is coming up with an attention-grabbing title. When people read your essay, they pay the most attention to your title. Also, another benefit of coming up with your title first is that it will serve as a guide for you for the whole essay.

2. Introduce With a Hook

After devising a title, deliver the next blow with an introduction that piques their curiosity. To do that, begin your essay with a hook. Your hook can be a quote, a question, or you can even provide a statistic. If your introduction is good enough, it will secure the engagement of your readers.

3. Organize Your Ideas

Writing an essay is like taking your readers for a ride. You need to set the vibe and organize the flow of your thoughts. Don’t start too strong it might make the rest of your essay bland. You need to properly build up the development of excitement and make sure the order of your ideas makes sense.

4. Polish Your Essay

Finalize your essay by proofreading it. When people talk about their passion, they tend to talk too much and include several unnecessary things. Make sure not to do that. Omit all the details that don’t contribute to the overall impact of your reflective essay. Also, don’t forget to review your text for grammatical errors.

Why is career planning important?

People hustle every day to reach their dream careers. Having a target career gives you a direction and sets your path. Planning your career is essential because being indecisive about it might negatively impact your life. Not having a fixed goal is like not having an end destination. Preparing for it would also make your career action plan achievable.

What is a career genogram?

A career genogram traces back an individual’s family tree and examines the career timeline they pursued. The scope of this genogram reaches the grandparents, extended family, and even the person’s close friends. This graphic representation is helpful when a person has a hard time deciding about his or her career development plan .

What is career assessment?

Career assessment is the process of identifying what career would work best for you. Most assessments are in the form of a questionnaire . It includes questions about your interests, your skills, your hobbies, and your strengths. These are some examples of questions that would help assess your future career. The result of your career assessment might give you ideas on what path to take.

The moment people read your career essay, they often rate how likely you are to succeed. Show them a piece of your mind that would erase all their doubts about your success. They say manifesting works wonders, so manifest the future that you want best by composing a rousing career essay.

Personal, Professional, and Career Development Reflective Essay

Personal and career purpose, career decision.

The ideal development of a person follows a unique route directing resources, facilities, capabilities, abilities, potentials, and interest among other in a line of presumed achievement. Most researchers argue that there are intuitive characters and motivations that shape how an individual grows and becomes prevalent in a community.

Essentially, these developments are associated with personalities, professionalism, career and career paths. There are processes and tactical handling of issues that must be conjoined to direct growth and development on these four aspects. In this regard, it is apparent that the fundamentality of managing and planning these attributes is beyond reproach.

An individual needs to set a line of interests to ensure that his or her working path has objectives and goals. In this manner, the person can develop personality, career and become a professional in his or her area. This paper evaluates a case of development in various aspects and comparisons. In a bid to perform this task, I have evaluated my strategy while striving to develop into a career warranting me a sustainable future.

The presence of a goal or a future aspiration allows me to plan and change my attitudes and characters. Primarily, individual characters determine the people I can interact with and set my social class into a disclosed discourse. The most tactical strategies may involve developing skills and experiences through employment and education.

First, education has allowed me to gain skills and attain credential for employment with reputable and well paying firms. Several personalities like patience and persistence have developed subconsciously and through training systems. Such personalities have significant outcomes in the real life. They make me competitive while searching for employment or any other work related issue.

These situations revealed that I knew how to outline my plan in creating meaning to every situation. At several instances I have managed to create and organize peoples into groups handling various issues as well as lead them tactically pursuant of my leadership dreams. Furthermore, I had managed to identify opportunity where I could develop my talents as I proceeded with further studies.

I have become an experienced and competitive artisan in a way that I can use it to earn a living. Furthermore, it is apparent that people are convinced by my inspirational encouragements, which attract them towards personal development. Therefore, I have become a person to encourage and motivate others.

These aspects are part of a plan developing my skills and experiences to facilitate the integration of huger ideas and knowledge. They have allowed me to attain insight into various levels of my career. Tactically, there have been adequate concerns regarding the credibility of ideas.

Motivation is an aspect that can be implemented to improve the performance of employees and boosting their tactical approaches in attaining customer satisfaction. Essentially, maintaining the workforce of a business in a critical tool for ensuring that secrets and skills are retained within the business. This aspect implies that a business must be conscious about the working conditions of its esteems employees.

In fact, most of the employees working in such a business as the Luxury Hotel undertake shores within a career path where they improve their skills. The employees become the managers and end up becoming significant operators for business proceedings. In this regard, it is vital to create a system that allows employees to show their competitiveness and abilities.

The management may formulate model involving increment in salaries, elevating the working class, and initiating competition plan involving winning prizes among others. All these aspects do not only improve the overall business performance, but also isolate the dedicated employees to work and become future managerial workforce.

The employee would view this process of reward as an opportunity to earn extra income and attain better-working conditions within the business. In essence, some issues related to authoritative management may be transformed to situations where employees work under minimal supervision since they have set goals at a personal level.

This research presents these incentives and shows how they are applied to become beneficial to an organization. In so doing, it reaches the managerial and non-managerial workforce to attain all diverse incentives that may assist businesses to become productive and inspiring.

In essence, the process of making this decision was consistent to some of the theories of decision making. It is an indication that people make decisions in ways that can be generalized to apply to majority. Evidently, the process was characterized by some aspects envisaged in bounded rationality.

The theory of bounded rationality reveals that there are two systems of thoughts, including emotional and rational approaches to decision making (Schiavone 2011). When the parents were making this decision, the mother had taken an emotional approach while the father was rational. Clearly, the mother feared that the financial and moral destructions were beyond repair.

She felt that the family might become financially incapacitated if they bought the private school. However, she did not have the actual figures to support the fact that the current financial capability of the family could not handle the destructions. In essence, it was a decision that was based merely on the outward perception of the school rather than facts.

On the other hand, the father argued that the mismanagement prevailing in the school wasted the lives of many pupils. As a result, it was important to offer a solution to the problem. In his case, he stated that there were two options that included building another school or acquiring the existing one. However, he argued that building another school was more costly that acquisition.

Further, he pointed out that the family cannot make a conclusion on whether the investment was too taxing without getting all the facts first. He also indicated that the family would invest despite financial incapability because he was confident that the school could bring good returns if it were managed correctly.

The theory of common biases was also evident in this entire scenario and the holistic process of making the decision. In this regard, the misconception of chance was the most evident bias. The theory states that people have a tendency to misconceive that the probability of getting a certain outcome is less than another one (Adair 2010). This perception is informed by emotions and past experiences (Choi 2011).

However, present and future events are not necessarily consistent with the past ones (Xu 2011). In this case, the mother had a misconceived perception that the chances of succeeding in an attempt to renovate and improve the school were minimal. However, this perspective was not informed by factual financial figures that could provide a rationale. In essence, it can be considered as a perfect case of misconceived chance.

In a broader perspective, it cannot be disputed resolutely that people are more pessimistic about success (Dolton 2011). Only a few people who have strong will, passion, and determination envisage optimism. As such, the mother was a victim of this general condition since she did not find a good chance of success.

Besides the two theories of decision making, the process also envisaged clear indications of heuristics. In theoretical understanding, heuristics purports that people have certain ways of simplifying information and factor of decision making (Missier 2011). These simplifications create a situation in which the decision maker does not consider the factors with due diligence.

Further, the theory asserts that simplifying the aspects of decision making might lead to a misconception of the reality (Nooraie 2011). Such misconceptions are informed by concentrating on the wrong focus and disregarding the real one (Su 2011). For example, the father asserted that acquiring a constructed school is less costly than building a new one.

However, it is evident that the school, which was in question, had gained a bad reputation among parents and was in a financial crisis. As a result, the cost of acquisition was not the only factor in decision making. Instead, it was important to consider other crucial factors such as reputation and precedence. Whereas these two aspects were important to the investment decision, the father overlooked them.

This ignorance and assumption were caused by the simplification of the scenario in a manner that considered cost as the only important variable.

As a result, it can be concluded that bounded rationality, common biases, and heuristics were among the critical decision-making theories that characterized the entire process of purchasing the school. Indeed, this process contained two parties and hence the analysis is based on both of them.

Having reflected on the event that took place when the decision was being made by the parents, there were critical undertaking that were crucial to notice. First, rationality is a better approach to making a decision that emotional perspective. When a decision makers embrace rationality, they can conceptualize issues from a sober position. In that regard, their decisions are not hasty.

Instead, they are procedural and sequential in nature. Therefore, the approach allows the decision maker to pass through the necessary steps when making a determination. For example, the father’s rationality enabled him to wait and assess the financial requirements before dismissing the acquisition.

On the other hand, an emotional approach is a fundamentally flawed method of making decisions. In this regard, decision makers who used this method rush to determine the way forward without deep and profound considerations. For example, the mother had already dismissed the acquisition of the schools just because of the fear that the family was going to run short of funds.

Whereas this was the core determining factor of her decision, she did not have any convincing figures to show that the family would become incapacitates if they purchased the school. Biases are also important when it comes to the decision-making process. In fact, it is evident that people become biased even without noticing.

Lastly, I would have made this decision in a pretty different manner than how it was done in this case. Personally, I would have talked to some able parents and friends about the challenges facing the school and the community. In the discussion, the issue of poor management and quality of the education provided in the school could be the core agendas.

Afterwards, I would propose to join hands with those colleagues and acquire the school as a group. This decision could have been better than the latter because the potential financial risk would be shared. Additionally, acquiring the school as a group would eliminate the notion of private school and bring a picture of a community-based school.

In essence, this would be an appropriate strategy for removing the bad reputation that had been painted by the previous management. Further, managing the school as a group would allow the availability of diverse intellectual ideas of improving it.

The management of virtual teams may depict various fundamental challenges. The researchers laying arguments in the literature depict the need and effectiveness of virtual teams. They are identified as prevailing businesses effective in reaching the final outcomes of the researchers. The developments of the virtual teams are improving continuously as the information technology proceeds to attain integration across the globe.

The review indicates the proper management allows the teams to attain clients and loyalty for the services they offer. The use of internet in reaching their target members depict the impending quorum required. Presently, the teams have managed to penetrate and unity many people across the globe making the accessibility of services such as marketing easy. The virtual teams have allowed globalization to take place easily.

In fact, such social companies do make not only huge profits due to the prevalence of members and common interests, but also creates global civilization and understanding of cultural differences. Such interactions are similar to the application of virtual teams in handling issues throughout the globe. They bring the human resources at one point where they may be accessed and exploited by firms or business easily.

The most fundamental achievement of the development is attaining a workforce striving the meet the company goals in a willing manner. In businesses that do not consider motivating the employees, their work is usually directed by the salary earning the get from the business.

However, the motivation oriented workforce does not target the salaries solely. The workforce works hard to attain salaries among other benefits being offered. In fact, businesses managed through authoritative systems fail the employees in working effectively due to lack of peaceful and free mind. In this regard, there must be proper developmental capabilities to deal with issues personally and organizationally.

250 Words Essay on Career Development

Career development is like growing a plant. Just as a plant starts small and needs water, sunlight, and care to grow, a person’s career starts with their first job and grows as they learn more and work harder. It is the path your job follows, which sometimes goes straight, sometimes turns, and sometimes even climbs up.

Starting Your Journey

When you first start thinking about what you want to be when you grow up, that’s when your career development begins. It’s like picking what kind of seed to plant. You might think about what you enjoy doing or what you are good at. Maybe you like drawing, so you think about being an artist. Or you love helping people, so you consider becoming a doctor.

Learning and Growing

Once you have an idea of the job you want, you need to learn how to do it well. This can mean going to school, getting good grades, and maybe even getting extra training. It’s like giving your plant the right food so it can grow strong.

Experience is like the water for your career plant. You get experience by doing jobs that are like the one you want. This could be a part-time job, an internship, or volunteer work. It helps you understand the work better and shows future employers that you are serious about your career.

Building Your Path

As you get older and keep working, you will find new opportunities. Your career might change as you find new interests or as you get better at your job. It’s important to keep learning and to be ready for changes, just like a plant needs to be ready for the weather to change.

Career development is a big adventure that lasts your whole life. It’s about finding what you love to do and getting better at it every day.

500 Words Essay on Career Development

Career development is the process of choosing a job, getting the right education, and growing in your work. Imagine it like a long road trip to your dream destination, which in this case, is the job you want to have when you grow up. Just like you need a map to reach your favorite holiday spot, you need a plan to achieve your career goals.

Choosing a Career Path

The first step on this journey is to think about what you love to do. Do you enjoy drawing or building things? Or maybe you like helping people or playing with numbers? Your interests can give you hints about what kind of jobs might make you happy. Once you have an idea, you can learn more about those jobs and what you need to do to get them.

Getting the Right Education

After you know what job you want, it’s time to learn the skills you need. This could mean going to college, taking special classes, or even learning from someone who already does the job you want. It’s like training for a sport – the more you practice, the better you get.

Gaining Experience

Learning in a classroom is important, but so is real-world experience. You can volunteer, do internships, or work part-time jobs related to your dream job. It’s like trying out a mini-version of your future career to see if it’s really what you want.

Building a Network

Meeting people who work in your chosen field is another key step. They can give you advice, tell you about job openings, and even help you get a job one day. Think of it like making new friends who share your interests and can help you on your journey.

Moving Up the Ladder

Once you have a job, the next goal is to do well and move up to better positions. This means learning more, taking on new responsibilities, and sometimes even going back to school for more education. It’s like leveling up in a video game where each level brings new challenges and rewards.

Adapting to Change

Jobs can change over time because of new technology or new ways of doing things. It’s important to keep learning and be ready to change your plans if needed. It’s like being ready to take a detour on your road trip if you find out there’s a better route.

Career development is an exciting adventure that lasts your whole life. By knowing what you like, getting the right education, gaining experience, meeting helpful people, doing well in your job, and being ready for change, you can build a career that makes you happy and successful. Remember, it’s your journey, so take the steps that are right for you and enjoy the ride to your dream job!

That’s it! I hope the essay helped you.

Chosen Organization: Cathay Pacific Airways

Job Opening In The Company Chosen: Flight Attendant

Job Description For A Flight Attendant In Cathay Pacific

Duties And Tasks Of The Flight Attendant In Cathay Pacific:

-Implement and enforce inflight safety and security measures (“Flight Attendant” 1).

-Disseminate professional and excellent customer service to passengers on board (“Flight Attendant” 1).

-Be in assistance of passengers’ needs promptly, efficiently and professionally (“Flight Attendant” 1).

-Serve food and beverages on board efficiently, and in a friendly manner to passengers.

In order to become effective in carrying out the duties and tasks, newly hired flight attendants would need to undergo a six-week intensive training program (“Flight Attendant” 1). In this training program, new flight attendants would get to feel the aircraft in flight mock up situations. They would get to be exposed to the process of checking and assisting on the safety procedures concerning the passengers before takeoff and landing. These safety measures include checking to see if the seatbelts are properly fastened. Additionally, they may demonstrate their ability to assist passengers fasten their seat belts if needed, during this mock up demonstration.

Newly hired flight attendants may demonstrate their mock up service of friendliness to passengers when asking them to straighten up their seats before take off and landing. The flight attendants can show the human resource managers that they are capable of being friendly to the passengers even during stressful situations. Stressful situations are not excuses for flight attendants to be grouchy. They should act professional at all times regardless of the situation in order to live with the policy that customers always come first.

New flight attendants should also demonstrate during in flight mock ups, their ability to respond to urgent situations involving the passengers. For example, a passenger needing medical assistance should be attended to immediately. Food and beverages on board being handled with care and efficiency must be demonstrated by new flight attendants. In this regard, grace in the movement of the flight attendants is important.

The knowledge, skills and abilities required for the flight attendant position in Cathay Pacific are the following:

-Knowledge of the basics of professional customer service.

-Knowledge of the basics of marketing in the airline industry.

-Knowledge of the tourism industry basics of Hong Kong, the city where Cathay Pacific is based.

Skills And Abilities:

-Having the skill to work in a fast paced environment in a professional and friendly manner.

-Having the skill to be able to deal with customers of various personalities and backgrounds.

-Are able to enforce rescue procedures during emergency landings.

-Are able to enforce medical procedures to passengers, on board, if needed.

-Have the ability to pay strong attention keenly on details.

Being knowledgeable of the basics of customer service enables the flight attendants to be able to be familiar with the things that irritate passengers when it comes to customer service. For example, flight attendants would be able to be familiar which actions are considered rude in customer service. Being familiar with the marketing basics in the airline industry enables the flight attendants to apply positive customer service skills not typically found in other airlines’ flights, thus, gaining competitive edge against other airlines. The flight attendants’ promotion of the tourism industry the home city hub of the airline enables the airline to gain more customers in the long run. More customers flying to Hong Kong means more profits for the airline since most of its flights originate to and from Hong Kong, given the fact that Hong Kong is the airline’s city hub.

Deficiencies In The Required KSAs:

I am deficient in providing the most excellent customer service to passengers on board. This is because I have not had experience providing extensive customer service. I may probably need to take up a course focusing on the polishing of customer service skills in order to be efficient in the mentioned task. I am not knowledgeable of the marketing basics of the airline industry. I was considering another type of career before; therefore, I have not given consideration to studying the marketing techniques employed in the airline industry.

Studying the marketing techiniques of the airline industry would likely require me to take up a degree in tourism in order to formally get familiarized with the basics.Enrolling in the tourism degree program would enable one to take a course in the familiarization of the tourism industry of different key cities around the world, such as Hong Kong.

I am deficient in being able to carry heavy objects, which may make me deficient in being able to perform rescue operations during emergency landings. I would need to exercise well and keep my body fit in order to be strongly fit to carry objects. I would need to carry rescued passengers during emergency landings.

Taking up a short program in performing medical assistances would help me in becoming efficient in enforcing assistance to passengers on board in cases of health emergencies on board. There is no medical staff on board during flights. It is usually up to the flight attendants to look after the overall welfare of the passengers on board, including health welfare.

It is important that I enhance my skills for the human resource manager to consider me for the position as a flight attendant in Cathay Pacific. The mock up demonstration during flights are one of the most crucial processes when hiring flight attendants. They are the parts of the application process which test out how potential flight attendants would fare in actual work situations.

The human resource manager would tremendously be impressed with the expert skills that I have acquired through taking up the tourism degree and other professional courses. I would certainly stand out from other candidates when I get extra free knowledge from my professor in my classes. This extra free knowledge may ultimately lead me into getting hired by the airline. Being friendly to the human resource manager helps in attracting the acquisition of the position as well. If I can be friendly to the human resource manager, I can ultimately be friendly to the passengers as well if hired.

Type Of Education Required For Flight Attendants

A high school diploma is the minimum educational requirement for flight attendants (McKay 1). However, several airline companies prefer to hire flight attendants who have earned a college degree (McKay 1). One of the leading undergraduate majors which are related to being a flight attendant is tourism and leisure. This degree program provides the basic knowledge to students on how to best provide the services sought for by international travelers.

Taking up a short study program of human resource management concerning the recruitment of airline staff may provide benefits to the potential flight attendants as well. Enrolling in this short program of study would enable potential flight attendants to study the bases of the hiring decision making patterns of the human resource managers in the airline industry. Likewise, through taking this program of study, they would be able to find which airlines typically have stricter guidelines in hiring staff as compared to their airline counterparts.

Enrolling in a basic customer service enhancement study program may likely help in polishing service skills in the airline industry as a potential flight attendant. This program of study allows students to learn how to interact with customers in a mock up setting. There may be a mock up work setting included in this course of study due to the fact that it is a basic course. Teaching the fundamentals of skills require actual real life demonstrations in order to gauge the abilities acquired by the students from participating in such basic study program. The trends of successful customer service patterns may likely be revealed as students take classes for this program of study.

Taking up classes in the food and beverage program of study would help in enabling the potential flight attendants to better serve inflight meals and beverages to passengers. Potential flight attendants who have not had any experiences in the food and beverage careers may find it difficult to serve meals and beverages to passengers on board. These flight attendants may have difficulty in carrying food trays if they are not used to serving meals on a daily basis. If this difficulty does indeed arises, it would be more urgently necessary to take up a short study program in food and beverage.

Previous Work Experiences Required For Flight Attendants

Airlines around the world prioritize hiring flight attendants who have experiences working with the public (Mc Kay 2). Some of the occupations which include extensive public or customer service contact include: receptionists of all sorts, waiters and waitresses in restaurants, call center or reservation agents, public relations representatives, among others. Receptionists in hotels and other establishments extensively deal with customers of various backgrounds who walk into their offices. They deal with different temperaments exhibited by each customer they encounter. They learn to be patient in dealing with rude customers even when they are in a bad mood. With these experiences, their customer service skills are better enhanced.

Waiters and waitresses are familiar with the preferred types of services of customers when dining in. Aside from friendliness, customers definitely would like servers who take caution in serving them their food and beverages. Customers naturally do not want servers who constantly ‘accidentally’ spill food and drinks on them due to carelessness. In order to avoid such carelessness, waiters, waitresses and potential flight attendants alike need to enhance their motor gross skills. Practicing friendliness in a previous job waiting tables also helps potential flight attendants to be naturally friendly to passengers when serving them food and beverages even during situations that passengers ask a lot of requests from flight attendants.

Call center or reservation agents work in speed. Furthermore, they become familiar with the most common complaints of customers with regards to services provided. A prior call center agent job helps enhance a potential flight attendant’s working speed in a fast paced environment. Being a previous reservation agent enables potential flight attendant to avoid repeating the same mistakes when it comes to implementing customer services to clients. Lessons may be learned from various interactions with clients in a call center environment.

Public relations representatives serve as ambassadors in promoting and marketing the products and services in the organizations where they work. They deal with several public contacts not only with customers, but also with various sectors of the industry where their organizations maintain business relations with. Potential flight attendants who have had the experiences working in this type of position would learn how a large part of an organization operates. If hired as flight attendants, they would be an extra asset to the airline. They would contribute in imparting their extra ideas on the other operation sectors of the organizations. The flight attendants’ ability to do this would be something that their employer would treasure.

Personal Development Requirements For Flight Attendants

Because of their constant interaction with the public, flight attendants are required by the management to maintain a neat and presentable physical appearance (Barnhouse 1). Flight attendants interact with passengers coming from different parts of the world, who have their own vision of what constitute as plesant looking in their eyes. Flight attendants must be able to present their general best physical appearance. During the mock up in flight demonstration in the application process, flight attendants must demonstrate to human resource managers that they are capable of presenting themselves in a neat and presentable manner. Doing so may be one of the plus points in having the human resource managers make a decision on hiring the flight attendant applicant.

Having a negative eyesight vision is not acceptable for a flight attendant (Barnhouse 1). If a person seriously would like to pursue a career as a flight attendant, he/she is recommended to undergo a laser surgery of the eyes in order to have a perfect vision. Undergoing a laser surgery is a serious commitiment one has to think over first. One has to think if he/she is actually willing to spend the money and the effort to undergo such procedure for the sake of pursuing a flight attendant career.

Having an outgoing personality helps in enabling potential flight attendants to deal with customers in a positive manner. Outgoing potential flight attendants are usually the ones who can attract customers of the airline to come back to the same airline for future flights. This is because lively conversations attract the customers to the staff of the airline. They find lively flight attendants to be giving them entertaining moments during flights so as to cut down their boring moments on air.

Personally enhancing one’s fluency on a second most universal language would likewise help in preparing to become a flight attendant. International airlines are usually the airline companies which pay good in the industry. They are also the airline companies which usually require potential flight attendants to be fluent in another internationally known language. It would be of help if potential flight attendants enroll in a Spanish or Mandarin language class, before applying as a flight attendant. Spanish and Mandarin are the most commonly spoken languages in the world, after English.

How to Write an Awesome Essay About Your Career Goals

  • Before you begin, ask yourself a few key questions like:
  • What are my short-term and long-term career goals?
  • Where do I see myself in ten years?
  • What events in my life have led me to have these goals?
  • What major will help me reach my goals?
  • What skills do I need to reach my goals?
  • What impact do I want to have on society?

Career Goals Essay Template

Need more inspiration.

After you brainstorm the responses to these questions, look for common themes, or pick out the most interesting stories. You can build your main essay “thesis” or idea around this.

Once you’ve got the main idea, create an outline to put your ideas into essay format. This will give you a general idea of structure.

You can use the career essays template below to give you some ideas. But remember that some rules are meant to be broken, so don’t be afraid to be innovative and think outside the box!

career goals essay

Here’s a paragraph-by-paragraph breakdown:

Paragraph 1 : Establish the main theme of what you’re going to talk about. It should also grab the reader’s attention. For example, instead of starting your essay with something generic (e.g. Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to be a zoologist), get creative with it! Try something like My greatest memory as a young girl was going to the zoo for the first time or While most kids play house or school, I always wanted to play zookeeper.

Paragraph 2 : Elaborate on what inspired your career goals. Perhaps it was a relative, a TV show, or simply an experience that you had. Remember that old writing adage, “Show, don’t tell.” In other words, try to demonstrate your interest with story or description.

Paragraph 3 : Discuss your short-term career goals and your intended major. How will your intended major help you reach these goals? What skills do you need to learn to reach them? At the end of the paragraph, try discussing how your short-term goals can help you achieve your long-term goals.

Paragraph 4 : Focus on your long-term goals and the impact that you hope to have on society. If you’re not sure what your long-term goals are, don’t sweat it; they’ll probably change anyways. You can instead focus on the difference you’d like to make overall. And don’t worry too much about the size of the impact…remember that just doing what you’re truly passionate about has a massive impact on those around you.

The last paragraph is your conclusion. You can use this paragraph to summarize what you discussed in the previous few paragraphs. If you want to be even more creative, try ending your essay with a question for your readers or a new insight. Good luck!

Introduction

Essentially, career development is a progressive process that continues even after employment. According to Noe (2010), it all starts from school work where employability happens to be the most primary goal in career development. Upon employment, career development continues through organizational as well as personal efforts. This can involve training in the case of an organization or furthering education in a personal context. Employee training could aim at organizational goals but impacts significantly on an individual’s career development.

The Role of Training in Organizational Development

Employee training refers to the enhancing of employee’s capabilities and knowledge in performing different tasks at the workplace. It has shown numerous benefits for every company that has used it effectively (Albrech, 2011). First, it increases the productivity by the employees of the organization who are well trained thereby providing quality results in a timely manner and with less supervision. Also, employees get motivated as they feel that their position is secure with the increased expertise and competencies. In this respect, the turnover rate goes down and thus ability to retain talent and attract external competencies. As a result, the employees are happy feeling knowing that they stand a chance of promotion due to the skills that they have acquired. This eligibility for promotion makes them a vital asset to the company. Further, the expertise reduces the chances of accidents occurring due to poor skills or inexperienced employees. The training reduces the chances of errors thus saving the company from remuneration expenses due to injuries or accounting errors.

Methods of Employee Development

Noe (2010) describes two methods of employee training that include the on the job training that is performed with a hands-on approach where the employee performs the actual task that he/she is being trained on. It is the most effective as the results are visible to the trainer providing the ability to rate the success of the training for application without monitoring. It is the simplest method and saves on cost. It is quite essential in motivating the employees as they learn by doing. Such methods examples are coaching, temporary promotions and job-rotation.The other method is the off the job training that describes training practices performed away from the workplace or working environments. It is mostly used on a large number of new employees and when the training deliverables are expected in a short span of time (Albrech, 2011). Essentially, it is fast and expensive but provides prompt results as many employees can gain a competence in a week’s time span. Such methods include seminars and conferences.

Employee Development and Organizational Development

Employee development is an employer’s strategy that aims at improving the capabilities, development of new skills as well as accreditations in the organization’s employees. On the other hand, organizational development is a long-term strategy aiming at improving the effectiveness and gross margins of the organization and could include employee development. For example, employee training is an employee development strategy that also implicates on the organizational development. The relationship between the two happens to be both negative and positive (Noe, 2010). First, the training process will improve the competencies in the organization thus quality assurance is guaranteed. On the contrary, the process is expensive and leads to low productivity in the short term but higher productivity in the long term. Organizational and employee development could involve education support. Employee development offers a freedom of choice for employees who wish to pursue further education with organizational development being specific on the fields that the organization wants to improve its competencies.

Career Development

Essentially, the Human Resource Department has a major role in the guidance of the career managements of its employees. Long gone are the times when advising employees was seen as an old school practice owing to the benefits recovered by the employees when the department provides information and advice that enhances the employees’ engagement (Al Ariss, 2010). At times, some organizations have some in-house counselors who foresee the career development process of its employees. The best placement of such a counselor is in the HR department. The organizations can devise several ways such as compulsory career discussion forums that can be performed on an annual basis (Blustein, 2013). Essentially, there has been much of career development that I have had ever since I joined the university program that is not just about attending the training courses or classes but also going into how, that is, how I should perform various functions that I have acquired. The skills that I have acquired over time show a significant reflection of my capabilities and competencies. Also, the school has offered several career development programs and a supportive career guidance team that have offered significant clarification on the career path I should follow. Indeed, I can confirm that to have earned incredible career development skills and proper guidance that will be essential, even in my future career plans. Having the determination to secure a post in an established company and in my line of study, I believe that the expertise that I have earned over time will provide the best opportunity for promotions that could get me to a managerial position over a span of five years. However, if in any case, I happen to land in a field that does not relate to my education, I will take up the job as an opportunity to offer me diversity and experience. Essentially, not a single organization lacks an HR department, in which case I will assume my misplacement is short-lived and I will finally secure the right post in the organization.

My Future Company’s Role in Career Development

There are various basic practices that most companies adopt to enhance the employees’ career development ambitions. I hope that my company will adopt interminable training programs that will ensure that my expertise is improved significantly. This can include job-rotation and temporary promotions that will ensure that my experience and ability to cope with different forms of pressure is enhanced. Also, the company can offer opportunities for upward mobility or successions within the company or more particularly the department. Such opportunities are motivating factors that help any employee have an upward career development. As per my dream career dreams, I will be most glad to have my dream company offer an employee benefits loan or appreciation to further my education to the post-graduate level. In this respect, I will have achieved the significant objectives in my career development plans. With proper human resource management practices, the company for which I will be a staff in will have just enough of the opportunities I need to realize my career development plans. This way, I will have a role to play other than waiting for the department to help me achieve my career objectives. This includes my personal relationship with the management of the company and having a guiding partner who will help me achieve my ambitions in the given organization (Blustein, 2013).

In summary, career development should be more of an individual effort by taking on every single opportunity that comes along (Al Ariss, 2010). Training should be taken as the opportunity to improve one's skills in any organization. However, training and career development go hand in hand as training is an inevitable path in career development.

Essay on Career Development

1.0 introduction.

My main goal, both personal and professional, is to be a successful business person. I made this verdict amidst my weakness to adhere to employment strict timeline, which requires a person to conform to 9 a.m. to 5 a.m. job routine. This selection, therefore, obeys my subjects’ choices. Information technology (IT), specifically, will give me an edge to understand advancements while MBA, a course I intend to join in graduate school, will empower me with skills to be able to understand the business world well. IT concentration will provide me with insight about Fintech, an area I would love to understand fully. So, this objective coincides with my SMART goals. For now, I need to be a diligent student and pass my core subjects, which are mathematics, business, and technology. My assessment revealed significant strength in these areas, and therefore, I believe I am treading on the correct path.

2.0 Domain of Study

Three domains are crucial to my career development: Technical writing ability, adaptability to new situations, and decision-making skills. Each of these domains relates to specific subjects that I have undertaken so far in BA. Technical writing skills can be attained from various courses, including but not limited to the English language, information technology, and creative writing. The adaptability to new situations is essential and it can be achieved from different subjects, such as English, psychology, and business is crucial in this domain. Lastly, decision-making is one of the essential ability that is required for every business person. It can be attained from subjects, such as mathematics, psychology, and English.

My academic planning relates well with strengths and weaknesses. Explicitly, I do well on subjects, such as mathematics, business, and technology conforms precisely to my objective of being a business person. Well, I also do alright on social science – a subject I would say is vital for handing clients. Mainly, adaptability to new situations requires that a person should have social skills, and so, social sciences become handy in that case. Technical writing capability is obtained from almost all subjects, and that explains why I do alright in subjects, such as business, technology, and physics. Also, decision-making skill is one fundamental feature in business studies, and so, it elucidates my prowess in this subject.

My main goal in the future is to be a business person. Besides, knowledge of technology will ensure that I am able to be aware of advancements in the business world. Particularly, Fintech will help me understand mobile phone transactions and even be able to predict associated perils. Currently, successful enterprises employ online sales – a procedure, which makes them maximize profits. Studying business and technology will help me understand this trend and even apply it when necessary. Mathematics, as one of my subjects of strength, is a prerequisite in handling calculations. Thus, it is an important course that will help me achieve my aim.

General Studies Concentration.

My area of concentration is information technology (IT). This area will, therefore, help my business be more productive. IT commonly assists firms by permitting them to operate efficiently in order to maximize profit (Markovic, & Salamzadeh, 2018). Drawing on from this view, IT aids in protecting important documents, enhancing faster communication, and keeping electronic data (Nguyen, Newby, & Macaulay, 2015). Particularly, understanding Fintech will give me an edge in handling all online and phone-related transactions. As a result, I will be able to anticipate frauds and even mitigate them in time.

3.0 Coursework

career development essay

4.0 Academic Rational e

The Bachelor of Arts General Studies (BA.GS) is an essential course because it offers diverse skills. In relation to my goal, that is to be a successful business person; this course has helped me gain insights on various prerequisites on running a business. A successful entrepreneur must be able to understand the market and even make feasible decisions (Lee, s& Lee, 2015). For example, in the case of disruptive innovations in the realm of business, an entrepreneur should be able to design a solution so as to avoid failure (Mueller & Shepherd, 2016). This merit, therefore, can be achieved by understanding technologies, as well as having in-depth knowledge about running businesses. It is worth noting that the current world is ever-changing, and so, if someone wants to venture in the commerce world, then BA.GS becomes a crucial subject. The diversity it offers, therefore, makes a person become an all-round person with the ability to succeed in different spheres of business.

Diverse skills are essential in running a business. In order to succeed, an entrepreneur should be a critical thinker and an excellent communicator. Enhanced literacy and math skill is an added advantage. Moreover, BA.GS stimulate the mind of a person to be imaginative, and even reason creatively. Also, this course fosters knowledge of the broader social and cultural scenario. As such, it is explicit that BA.GS offers an essential background for my development as an entrepreneur. I intend to succeed in a business venture, and IT concentration will enhance this mission. Generally, I will be able to apply these diverse skills in order to foster my career progress, as well as personal growth. Notably, I plan to do an MBA once I finish a degree course. Therefore, I believe that BA.GS offers a precondition that is required for pursuing an MBA. This course, particularly, will expand my knowledge of business skills and even enable me to understand commerce in terms of the global context.

5.0 Conclusion

Overall, I have gained significant milestones concerning BA.GS course. The subjects that I have accomplished so far supports my main ambition of running a successful business. Besides, I have recognized that specific classes can help a person to foster his goal. Therefore, I have gained experience in learning how to bridge my objectives with learned content. As such, diversity in terms of skills offered by BA.GS has been instrumental, especially by enabling me to gain insight into the essentials of running a business. First, decision-making skill, as one of the domains for career development, is undeniably an important asset for surviving competition in a commercial world. Secondly, technical writing is another skill-set, which is equally crucial for operating a business. Lastly, adaptability to new situations mandates that a person must be dynamic regarding ever-changing conditions. So, this merit will provide me with an opportunity to learn and solve problems.

Moreover, I commonly consider my personality development while doing my course. During analysis, after completing the MBTI profile assessment, three test results accurately described me: Strong sense of duty, sensitive and warm, and good at connecting with others. Critically, these personalities fit the characteristics required for an entrepreneur. On the whole, the subjects that featured among the ones I do alright, such as mathematics, business, and technology form the complete package for my main objective in life. Entrepreneurship is the sure way to succeed in life, and I envisage it as one my favorite pathway. Currently, the world is ever-changing and educational diversity can serve an important role.
