These sets of alphabet tracing worksheets A-Z are great for preschool, kindergarten, or first grade.
Our phonics and alphabet flashcards have the top, middle, and base lines so that children can see how the letters sit on the lines.
Saying the sounds as one writes the letters is one of the best ways for children to make the association between letters and reading.
You can also use the names of the letters, yet remember that the sounds are what help children read.

Capital letters are good for learning to write names, so they're a necessary part of writing.

2. Small Font Alphabet Worksheet
These worksheets have a normal sized font instead of the giant fonts required in so many Kindergarten and First Grade classes.
If you're homeschooling, I found it much better to stay with the same sized letters throughout the years rather than forcing little children to make huge letters and later trying to have them make smaller letters.

3. Free Cursive Alphabet Worksheets
I think that teaching cursive is super important especially for reading. When some children learn how to write in cursive, reading "clicks".
Because they see breaks in the letters where the new word is formed.
I remember one child exclaiming, "Oh! I get it!" He was so excited! He "saw" the individual words that he had not been "seeing" in his reading. I guess looping the letters together helped him make the connection.
If you are teaching the alphabet in cursive you will love our cursive alphabet worksheets !

Learning ABC’s Worksheets
Back when my kids were really little, they used to ask me to make them ABC’s worksheets so that they could practice writing their letters. I guess back at the age of 3-5, kids are just so hungry for knowledge that even self-imposed homework is fun to them! (If only they were so enthusiastic about learning now, eh?!) .
These ABC’s worksheets are perfect for preschoolers and Kindergartners. They each have 6 lines of letter practice for both capital and lowercase letters. The pictures are so cute, too, and give the kiddos an idea of the sound that each letter makes. (It also means there’s a little something to color on these worksheets, allowing them to double as both coloring sheets and writing practice!) Reading and writing are such important tools for expanding our kids’ creativity and their ability to communicate effectively in life, and doing activities like ABC’s worksheets are a great foundation piece to the building needed skills. Of course, we see it as an educational process, but for the kids, it’s just plain fun.
Print off one at a time as you’re practicing a particular letter, or print out the entire set and have them ready to go at a moment’s notice. If you get out your three-hole punch, you can even create a binder where your kiddo can save them into a cute little collection as a gift for a grandparent or other special person.

Welcome to the section of the site devoted to alphabet worksheets. there are 208 excellent abc worksheets dedicated to the topic which your students will discover at the very beginning of their english studies. the alphabet is a topic that must be covered thoroughly with elementary students of any age. this printable alphabet worksheet helps students practice upper and lowercase letters as well as sounds. as one commenter suggested, you can even change the worksheet, for example the images, to better suit your class so there is really no reason to have to start from scratch. if you are looking for something else please check out the other available worksheets and feel free to share your worksheets too. everyone has to start somewhere and since letters are the building blocks of the language, the alphabet is the perfect place to begin. only elementary learners spend a significant amount of time learning the alphabet but these lessons are really important and will help them succeed later on. if students are not familiar with the latin alphabet, this will take a while and they will need to practice writing each letter too. as basic as this seems, even adult beginners are going to need to start here so dedicate plenty of time to it. you never really finish with the alphabet but once students are comfortable with this material, they will be ready to move on to learning vocabulary, numbers, and even forming simple sentences. it can be a real pleasure to see students grow and this is most evident when covering basic topics such as this one. read more... ...less.

Alphabet Worksheets – ABC from A to Z
Are your students ready to work on letters from A to Z? We have these alphabet worksheets to help them out, with many fun ways to tackle the letters.
These printables are a great learning resource and make a great addition to hands on learning activities when teaching the alphabet. As each of the letters comes with their own set of pages, these are perfect to use for letter of the week series.
There are lots of skills these focus one – handwriting practice is encouraged through a variety of letter tracing sheets, there is a beginning sound exercise and lots of practice for letter recognition.
We do recommend you laminate these printables and use them with dry erase markers or to use (affiliate link) protective sheets (we really love these as you can use them over and over again).

All of these are currently offered for free on our website so we do invite you to go on an alphabet hunt. There are 8 pages in each of the alphabet worksheets sets provided. Here is a quick summary of what is included in each of these sets.
Page 1: Beginning sounds. Students need to look at the objects given and color all those that begin with the letter given.
Page 2: Simple Tracing. With both upper and lowercase letters to trace and a few simple shapes to trace to warm up.
Page 3: Letter Recognition. Students need to look at all the letters given on the page and circle all of the specified letters.
Page 4: Hidden Image. A twist on a classic color by number, where students are asked to color in a specific letter to uncover the hidden image.
Page 5: A maze to solve. Follow the path of the specific letter to find your way through the maze.
Page 6: Uppercase tracing. A whole page dedicated to handwriting practice of the uppercase letters.
Page 7: Lowercase tracing. A whole page dedicated to handwriting practice of the lowercase letters.
Page 8: Letter Recognition. Students are asked to color a specific letter in sentences given.

That’s how many times it felt like my husband and I sang the alphabet for my son that year he learned his ABC’s.
Fortunately for our hands, we didn’t have to write the letters out that many times to help him learn how to recognize and spell them out. Thank goodness for free alphabet worksheets .

Before we get to the free printables, let us share a few key things we’ve learned through this whole escapade that will hopefully help you save your sanity as well.
Start small.
I’ll be first to admit that I wanted my son to do it all, but I quickly learned to be aware of pacing.
First, little kids are not used to sitting down and doing focused work because they haven’t built up that experience yet.
Go with a few letters each day. You may need to focus on the same letters for the entire week before incorporating new ones. Be sure to include previously learned letters for review as you build up more in subsequent weeks.
Repetition and variety are both necessary.
Kids will need the constant exposure to help reinforce the alphabet. But don’t stick to just writing out the letters and reciting the alphabet over and over.
Rote memorization is not as engaging for your kid (or the parent), especially when it’s done over and over for the umpteenth time.
Or to sum it up in the words of my son, that is “BOOOORING.”
Instead, go with a variety of worksheets that will strengthen their alphabet knowledge in other ways so they think about their ABCs, remember them, and utilize the letters in different ways.
That’s not to say to completely eliminate some straightforward writing and reciting of the alphabet, but just don’t default to that all the time.
Keep things simple.
The biggest tip is to make sure that the activities are not too complex for either the child to complete or for the adult to have to set up each time (daily, or even multiple times a day).
That’s why we loved done-for-you worksheets because it was easy to print out yet also engaging enough for our son.
It’s also definitely worth investing in plastic sheet protectors and dry erase markers so you can print out a set of sheets and use them over and over again.
Now that we’ve shared the pointers that helped us teach our kids the ABCs, let’s get to the actual ABC pages.

Large letter tracing A to Z
Here is a good set to start off with. It introduces both the uppercase and lowercase versions of the letter, with two to a page.
It’s good practice to have the letters larger as children begin to develop the motor skills to handle a writing utensil and trace lines.

Another good set to practice letters without being too overwhelming is simply writing out a small subset of letters four times.
Caterpillar letter match
As kids begin to recognize letters, an activity like this will help to put the uppercase with the lowercase version of letters together.
Star letter tracing
Simply putting the letters within star shapes can make the alphabet seem a bit more exciting.
We like to call out the letters and have the kids color or trace their stars just as another means of reinforcement afterwards.
Cut and paste matching worksheet
You could also use this apple-themed activity where kids would cut out individual capital letter squares and match them to the list of capital letters on the sheet.
This is still a hands-on activity, but one that’s a break from writing.
Missing letter balloons
Another way to test your child’s knowledge of the alphabet is with this fill-in-the-blank worksheet.
Alphabet handwriting worksheets
You can use this worksheet to help kids practice how to write legibly and within the lines.
Here, kids can practice both uppercase and lowercase letters.
Beginning match sound
As kids become more familiar with the sounds of letters and how to listen for the letter that a word starts with, a printable like this will help them to start associating pictures with the letters they are learning.

What is Alphabet Knowledge?

Many researchers have proven the most effective way to practice the alphabet is by doing handwriting instruction . The ability to recognize, name, and identify letters will support young children in developing their ability to excel in reading and spelling lessons.
Katie also explained the essential elements of alphabet knowledge that teachers and parents could apply to teach the students and children. The names, shapes, and sounds of the letters are the essential features that students should understand to enhance their literacy skills.
What is the Four Resource Model of Literacy?
According to the Four Resources Model of literacy by Allan Luke and Peter Freebody, a person who has a high education tends to build up their understanding and knowledge of the world by doing four reciprocal routines:
- Understand how to form the alphabet into a coherence passage (code-breaking)
- Decipher the meaning of a particular topic and text (text participation)
- Utilize the value of a written text based on its capacity (text user)
- Evaluate and revamp the context of the passage (text analyst)
The adults (teacher and parent) need to understand the full context and concept of the resource model to ensure the young learners will understand and be able to write and read fluently.
The adults should remember in the learning process, not only the children who learn then should open their minds to learn together because this will affect the quality of lessons the children will accept.
What are the Types of Alphabet?
There are uncountable types of the alphabet in the world. Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and Arabic are some of the most famous alphabets in the world. Do you know the name of these alphabets you are reading right now? It is called the Latin or Roman alphabet. Some people also refer to it as the English alphabet.
This type of alphabet is the most famous alphabet system. Almost 70% population of the world from various language systems use the English alphabet. There are four kinds of the English alphabet that young learners should master: small, capital, cursive, and print letters.
Small letters (lowercase letters) are the tinier version of capital letters, and this type of letter is the one that fills the text. Capital (uppercase letter) is the letter that is usually placed at the beginning of a sentence or to address the name of something. Below are examples of lowercase and uppercase letters to differentiate them:

Cursive letters are the peculiarity of the written alphabet in which the letters are connected to form a word. Some people also call this type of alphabet script or longhand graphic representation. How to Teach Children about Alphabetics?
Introducing something new and foreign to students might be a quest for both the children and the adults (teachers and parents). It is a relief if the children are the type who is easy to focus on. However, in many cases, most children cannot fixate on one thing for too long. This situation is challenging for teachers and parents to find a correct and proper learning method.
