PATENTSCOPE

World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)

PATENTSCOPE is a free patent database made available by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) with coverage of over 60 patent collections. It is the primary and thus most up-to-date and complete source of data on patent applications filed under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) and includes numerous unique features including cross-lingual semantic search, facilitating keyword search in multiple languages.

Synonyms and variants of keywords across multiple languages can be generated for search terms through the "Cross Lingual Expansion" interface or using the "Expand with related terms" function in the "Advanced Search" interface in PATENTSCOPE. The "Cross Lingual Expansion" interface includes a "Supervised" expansion mode, in which the technical domain(s) of the search terms, variants (and their closeness to the original search terms), fields to be searched, and distance between generated terms can be defined. Cross-lingual semantic search in Chinese, Danish, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Swedish were supported as of June 2020.

Logged-in users can access chemical structure search tools in PATENTSCOPE through the "Chemical Compounds Search" interface. Markush search available free-of-charge

Markush search available since September 2021. Chemical compounds can be entered into PATENTSCOPE according to their name, International Non-Proprietary Name (INN), International Chemical Identifier (InChI), Simplified molecular-input line-entry system (SMILES) notation, and chemical structure. Chemical structures can be uploaded as MOL files or image files or drawn using a chemical structure editor, which supports stereochemistry. Chemical compound terms are converted into InChI and searched in several collections, including the PCT, European, Japanese, and US patent collections (as of June 2020). Chemical compound terms can be expanded as substructures by selecting the "Search scaffold" option.

PATENTSCOPE allows patent documents to be retrieved based on both International Patent Classification (IPC) and Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC).

Table, pie/bar chart, timeline

Both PCT and Paris routes families available in PATENTSCOPE

Search results can be sorted in PATENTSCOPE by publication date, filing date, or relevance (according to the weighted frequency of keywords in the search query). Keywords are highlighted in the title and abstract displayed in the results list. Titles and abstracts can be machine translated in the results list, and description and claims can additionally be translated in the record view. Machine translation can be done using several translation engines, including WIPO Translate, a machine translation engine using secure connections to WIPO and a neural network artificial intelligence technology based on a patent corpus to generate more accurate translation results for patent documents.

Search results can be analyzed in PATENTSCOPE both statistically and graphically by clicking the Analysis icon located next to the results number in the results list view. Search results are grouped in the "Filters" and "Charts" analysis by top (most frequent) patent collection, applicant, inventor, IPC class, publication year, and filing year, with the top 10 results being shown by default. Search results can also be analyzed as "Timeseries", with the count of results by patent collection, applicant, inventor, or IPC class by year being displayed. The fields analyzed, number of top entries, and graph style (bar or pie chart) can be customized in the "Settings" menu.

Search results can be monitored in PATENTSCOPE by establishing an RSS feed from a search results list. The RSS feed is automatically updated with any new results that meet the criteria of the search query and can be set up to send email alerts using an RSS feed reader.

Logged-in users can download up to 100 results from PATENTSCOPE with detailed information (including abstracts and representative drawings) or up to 10,000 results with limited information (including bibliographic data only) in Microsoft Excel format. The download function can be accessed through the results list.

Open access content of Nature Filtered scientific and technical Wikipedia articles

PATENTSCOPE allows the use of Boolean operators AND, OR, NOT, and XOR to combine terms in a search query. Terms can also be included or excluded from search results using the plus sign (+) or minus sign (-) in front of a term in a search query. PATENTSCOPE further supports an ordered proximity operator (BEFORE) and unordered proximity operator (NEAR), which limit the distance between terms combined with these operators to five or less terms in the results by default. The distance between terms can be customized by adding a number after the proximity operator (e.g. NEAR10 would limit the distance between terms to 10 or less terms in the results). Terms can be truncated using the asterisk (*), representing between zero and an unlimited number of characters, or a question mark (?), representing exactly one character. These wildcard operators can be placed at the end of terms (right truncation) or within terms (center truncation). PATENTSCOPE also includes an automatic stemming function, which identifies common word stems in terms in a search query and truncates these automatically.

WASHINGTON — The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) became a technology partner to the global green-technology platform of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), WIPO GREEN .

WIPO GREEN is a public-private partnership established by WIPO in 2013. Its 145 international partners include major technology companies, intellectual property (IP) offices, business groups, research institutes, and nongovernmental organizations. The partnership provides an online platform for technology exchange, connecting providers and seekers of environmentally friendly technologies, and organizes acceleration projects, conferences, and international events that highlight the availability of green technologies.

“By becoming a WIPO GREEN partner, the USPTO joins the effort to help companies, communities, and individuals from around the world identify innovative green technologies and who is producing and selling them,” said Kathi Vidal, Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the USPTO. “This is a critical tool we can use to meet the challenge of global climate change, and helps fulfill President Biden’s promise to engage in international efforts that support climate-aligned technologies and investments.”

The announcement came at a meeting the USPTO Director held with WIPO Director General Daren Tang during the organization’s annual Meetings of the Assemblies in Geneva, Switzerland.

The USPTO’s contributions to WIPO GREEN include its own initiatives that are designed to address the challenge of climate change, including:

  • The USPTO Climate Change Mitigation Pilot Program , which accelerates the examination of patent applications involving innovations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
  • The soon-to-be-announced Patents for Humanity: Clean Energy Technologies awards competition, a green technology–focused version of the USPTO’s highly successful Patents for Humanity awards competition

With this announcement, the USPTO joins 10 other IP offices as partners in WIPO GREEN: Brazil, Canada, Chile, Denmark, France, Japan, Lebanon, Morocco, Portugal, and Switzerland.

Detroit Pistons v Philadelphia 76ers

The South Carolina women and Connecticut men have won college basketball national titles in the last couple days, but the ultimate prize in hoops has still yet to be earned this week: the sixth seed in the NBA Eastern Conference playoffs. With the Philadelphia 76ers having just three games left in the regular season, they have a couple narrow paths towards earning the sixth spot and avoiding the Play-In Tournament. To walk down those narrow paths, they’ll likely need to win out. Fortunately, they have all three games down the home stretch at home in the friendly confines of the South Philadelphia Sports Complex, starting tonight against the Detroit Pistons.

If you were starving for a win, you couldn’t find a juicier piece of produce on the stand than these Detroit Pistons. After matching the longest losing streak in NBA history at 28 games earlier this season, the Pistons are limping into the offseason as they look to maintain top Tankathon positioning over Washington for the best odds at the first overall pick in the draft. Detroit has lost four straight and 12 of their last 13 games. The Pistons’ last win over a team that will reach the postseason was a victory over Chicago back on February 27. If we wanted to qualify a victory over a team that won’t be in the Play-In Tournament, we have to go all the way back to a win over Oklahoma City on January 28. This is not a club in the business of playing spoiler.

Additionally, Simone Fontecchio (toe), Isaiah Stewart (hamstring), Quentin Grimes (knee), Ausar Thompson (medical illness), and Stanley Umude (ankle) are all out. Evan Fournier (knee) is probable and Cade Cunningham (knee) is questionable, with having sat out the last three games.

Meanwhile, the Sixers are actually starting to look healthy-ish. Robert Covington (knee) is the only player listed as out. Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Tobias Harris, and Kyle Lowry are all listed as questionable. Harris is the only player from that group I would seriously think might sit out, having not played since April 2 against the Thunder. Philadelphia received some other positive injury news with De’Anthony Melton being upgraded to questionable . Melton hasn’t played since March 1 due to his back issue. If the Sixers could get a couple regular season games to bring him back up to speed before the start of the postseason, watch out.

The Sixers are currently 16-point favorites to win tonight’s game, per DraftKings . Given the caliber of the opponent and what’s at stake during this final week of the regular season, it’s safe to say that a defeat here would qualify as the most disappointing loss of the season. More realistically, Philadelphia needs to make sure not to play with its food. Use the time to continue improving Embiid’s conditioning and get him time on the court with guys like Lowry and Buddy Hield. However, let’s make it an early night for the starters. In addition to Embiid, Maxey could probably use some extra rest after carrying the team across 54 minutes on a sore hip in Sunday’s double-overtime win in San Antonio.

So there you have it. No one plays more than 28 minutes tonight and let’s root on Toronto (vs. Indiana), Atlanta (vs. Miami), and Houston (vs. Orlando). That’s the goal.

ATLANTA (AP) — New York Mets right-hander Julio Teheran has been designated for assignment, one day after he lasted only 2 2/3 innings in his debut with the team. The Mets selected the contract of right-hander Dedniel Núñez from Triple-A Syracuse before Tuesday night’s game against the Atlanta Braves. The 33-year-old Teheran gave up four runs in Monday night’s 8-7 win over the Braves. Teheran signed with New York on Friday. He began his career with Atlanta in 2011 and was an All-Star with the Braves in 2014 and 2016. Teheran spent spring training with the Baltimore Orioles.
