RED Movie Review: It's A 'Red' Signal
Movie: RED Rating: 2.5/5 Banner: Sri Sravanthi Movies Cast: Ram Pothineni, Nivetha Pethuraj, Malvika Sharma, Amritha Aiyer, and others Music: Mani Sharma Cinematography: Sameer Reddy Editor: Junaid Siddique Action: Peter Hein Art: AS Prakash Producers: Sravanthi Ravikishore Screenplay and Direction: Kishore Tirumala Release Date: Jan 14, 2020
“iSmart Shankar” catapulted Ram Pothineni to the next level as the film brought him closer to mass audiences. “Red”, which is an official remake of a Tamil hit, is his attempt to woo the mass audiences again.
Will his gamble pay off with this film? Check out?
Story: At a posh locality in Vizag, a guy named Akash gets killed. During their investigation, the police find a photograph that shows a person hiding in the building of Akash, on the night of the murder. That person turns out to be Siddharth (Ram), a civil engineer and MD of a construction company. His girlfriend Mahima (Malvika Sharma) went on a trip, and he gets arrested in this case.
Police officer Yamini (Nivetha Pethuraj) takes up the investigation. The twist comes when his look-alike Aditya (Ram Pothineni), a gambler and criminal, gets arrested in a drunk and drive case. Now, police have two suspects – Aditya and Siddharth.
Who murdered Akash and why? What is the connection between these two look-alike persons?
Artistes’ Performances: Ram Pothineni has carried the same look of ‘iSmart Shankar’ for the role of a thug named Aditya. In the role of Siddharth, he looks suave and charming. Ram pulls off the dual role with aplomb.
Malavika Sharma plays the typical girlfriend’s role. Newcomer Amritha Aiyer gets small but a good character. Her role is the best among the three heroines.
Nivetha Pethuraj as a police officer does nothing but mostly standing in one place and doing the investigation. Hers is a stereotypical performance.
For a change, Pavitra Lokesh appears in a negative shade. Satya has nothing much to do. Sonia Aggarwal as the mother is okay.
Technical Excellence: The film has decent technical values. Mani Sharma’s music is a huge let-down. Sameer Reddy’s cinematography is good. Kishore Tirumala leaves his mark in dialogue writing.
Highlights: Pre-interval sequences Dialogues
Drawback: Unnecessary tracks for a thriller Silly investigation process Wafer-thin plot stretched
Analysis “Red” is an official remake of the Tamil movie “Thadam”. The film deals with a murder case and two identical twins played by Arun Vijay.
The core idea is taken without tampering for the Telugu version, but director Kishore Tirumala has stretched the plot beyond a point, thereby diluting the impact. A murder mystery works effectively, only when it is narrated in a gripping and crisp manner.
Kishore Tirumala, who is known for directing soft romantic dramas like “Nenu Shailaja” and “Chitralahari”, has tried to narrate murder mystery in his trademark style, by adding romantic tracks peppered with smart dialogue.
Perhaps to meet the expectations of Ram’s fans, there is unnecessary over-the-top ‘mass orientation’ to Aditya’s character. The body language and dialogue delivery of 'iSmart Shankar' gets repetitive.
The thriller lost its main strength as the second half goes on and on. Plus, the investigative process looks silly and unrealistic. Despite Ram’s sincere effort, “Red” fails to engage.
All in all, "Red" is another example of a botched up remake.
Bottom-line: Not a gripping thriller

Red Review, What's Behind:
Energetic star Ram Pothineni is on high with iSmart Shankar has this time come with trusted director Thirumala Kishore for remake of acclaimed Tamil flick Thadam. Let us see, how far the original essence is recreated.
Red Story Review:
Civil Engineering entrepreneur Siddharth (Ram) falls in love with Mahima (Malavika Sharma). As they decide to get married, Siddharth's look alike Adithya (Ram), a tapori criminal enters his life and chaos is created with killing of Akash as both Siddharth and Adithya are taken into police (Nivetha Pethuraj, Sampath Raj) custody as prime suspects. Who actually killed Akash? What is his flashback? How are Siddharth and Adithya related? What happened to Mahima? All these form the crux.
Red Artists, Technicians Review:
Thadam was a surprise flick from Arun Vijay and it clicked to an extent majorly because of freshness in casting and thrill element. Thirumala Kishore known for his own settled and slow narrative techniques couldn't match the genre. Though the original essence was captured, sluggish story telling and dull mood tested the patience. The way bunch of cops leave basic evidence aside and run behind useless flashback of Ram is silliest of all. Such screenplay degraded the proceedings and final twist appeared frail. While Thirumala failed as a screen writer and director, he was into basics as dialogue writer.
Well supported by impressive background score from Mani Sharma and remarkable lighting schema from Sameer Reddy, its the editing department should be blamed for creating confusion in second half between two main characters. Then comes production standards from Ravi Kishore very much in tact.
Onto, Ram's portrayal of two contrasting characters with a common emotional sentiment, he did a decent job. While Siddharth's role is dignified and settled, Adithya is an extension of iSmart Shankar. Malavika Sharma looked pretty. Nivetha Pethuraj is a damp squib. Amrita Iyer is brief. Sampath Raj, Posani are just ok. Sathya fun worked partly. Hebbah was hot in Dinchak song. Sonia Agarwal balanced the sentimental flashback.
Red Review Advantages:
Background Score
Red Review Drawbacks:
Dull Narrative
Second Half
Silly Logics Missed
Twists n Turns
Nivetha Pethuraj
Red Review Rating Analysis:
There's nothing much to brief here because Thirumala picked up a genre where he is not a master at. Although had a proven script on hand, Sravanthi team couldn't overcome the loopholes in original and the lag is rehashed as it is. At the same time, Thirumala's touch is sensibly felt in few areas like conversation with Amrita Iyer in climax and her love track with Ram. This is his forte and should try the same again.
First half is divided equally in establishing both Siddharth and Adithya characters. Siddharth, Mahima romance is cool. On the other hand, Ram aka Adithya and Sathya episodes are just ok. Just when nothing vibratory seems to be happening, death of Akash and a photographic evidence caught by dumbo police team builds a thrill element. Then Adithya and Siddharth into the custody throws for interval block.
Second half is made weakest from weak with poor investigation process. Vennela Kishorr as forensic specialist did not click. All of sudden, rogue charactered Adithya reshapes as an emotional son to tell his relation with Siddharth and their family connection with mom and dad. This part should have been more heart touching and short in length. But final twist comes only after the case is being quashed in court. To know that quick thrill, it will be spoiler if we disclose.
All in all, Red is a slow emotional thriller dealt very dull till climax with useless confusion. Except Ram's screen presence and Mani Sharma background score, there's nothing to thrill. CJ goes with 2.25 stars for decency maintained in few tracks like that of Amrita Iyer. Box Office wise, people may wait for OTT release.

Movie Preview: Red Director: Kishore Tirumala Producer: Sravanthi Ravi Kishore Banner: Sri Sravanthi Movies Music: Mani Sharma Starring: Ram Pothineni, Nivetha Pethuraj, Malvika Sharma and Amritha Aiyer Release Date: 14th January 2021 Rating: 2.5 /5
Red Movie Review : Ram Pothineni, Malvika Sharma, Nivetha Pethuraj and Amritha Aiyer starrer action thriller drama Red, helmed by Kishore Tirumala has finally hit the theaters today on 14th January. Let’s see the story of Red.
Story: A youngster gets killed and creates confusion among the cops when they find out that the one accused in the crime has a look-alike! How do cops find out the real culprit? Form rest of the story.
Plus Points:
- Performance
- Ram Pothineni
- Nivetha Pethuraj
Minus Points:
- Few unnecessary scenes
- Flashback episode
Performance: Ram Pothineni in the roles of Aditya and Siddharth steals the show, which are poles apart in mannerisms and body language. He pulls off both roles with ease. Ram has worked hard to show us the differences between both the roles- Aditya and Siddharth. Pavitra Lokesh who is playing the role of a con woman character, is ok. Nivetha Pethuraj as the smart cop, too, stands out. Rest of the cast of Red perform accordingly.
Technical: The film Red has a gripping screenplay and has all the trappings of a good murder mystery. Director Kishore Tirumala not only gets his lead characters right but also etches a solid character for the female cop Yamini (Nivetha Pethuraj in an effective performance). He does miss a trick, though, by giving us weekly written female lead (Malvika Sharma) who feature in a few sequences and songs that seem to have been put together in haste. Editing and the music is good. The cinematograph work of Red is noteworthy. The background score by Mani Sharma fits the intense mood of the film like a glove.
Analysis: Ram Pothineni starrer RED is taut thriller that keeps the movie lovers engaged till the very end.

Ram’s Red was initially slated for release last summer but the onset of Covid-19 pandemic resulted in a lengthy postponement of the release. The film finally hit the screens today and here is what we felt after watching it.
Story: Siddharth and Aditya(Both played by Ram) are identical twins who share an uncanny resemblance and also a troubled past. But their lifestyles are completely contrasting. While the former is a well-mannered civil engineer, the latter is a rogue who is always in search of easy money. However, the proceedings take a steep turn after Siddharth is accused of murdering a man. Police officers, Nivetha Pethuraj, and Sampath start investigating the case and as they keep interrogating Siddharth, things get even more complicated as Aditya enters the scene. Who is the real culprit behind the murder? How is the murder linked with Siddharth’s love life and his girlfriend Malvika Sharma, who went missing a while back? Why does Aditya voluntarily enter the scene? The answers to these questions form the rest of the plot.
What about on-screen performances?
Ram plays dual role in the film and he delivers a fine performance. He manages to show good variation between the two characters when in comes to mannerisms and body language. He is the main driving force behind the film. Of the three female leads, Nivetha Pethuraj, Malvika Sharma, and Amritha Aiyer, the former gets the meatier role as she plays a police officer and she does a decent job. Malvika and Amritha are seen in brief roles and they deliver what is expected of them. Sampath is shown as a cop who has a personal feud with one of the male leads and he suits the role.
What about off-screen talents?
Red is the remake of Tamil suspense thriller Thadam which was applauded for its thrilling screenplay and brisk narration. But sadly, the Ram starrer fails to acquire the above-mentioned key traits of Thadam and it ends up as a bland and boring film with zero thrills. The director, Kishore Tirumala had only directed love dramas till now and he treaded unfamiliar territory with Red, which is supposedly a suspense thriller. Suspense thrillers thrive on pacy narrative and unexpected twists, but Red possesses neither of them. The director looked clueless for most parts as he did not know how to take the story forward. Majority of the first half is dedicated for character establishment and that takes a toll on the tempo. Barring the pre-interval sequence and interval twist, no aspect of the first half is intriguing. The second half starts on a dull note as well and it fails to hold the attention of the audience. There is a small and typical twist towards the end of the film and it just isn’t enough to end the film on a high.
The music director Mani Sharma did an okayish job with the audio album. Dinchak Dinchak song which comes in the early stages of the first half is the pick of the lot. His background score is decent. Sameer Reddy’s work behind the lens is good. Editing is way below par as a big chunk of the final cut could have been chopped off to maintain the optimal run-time. Production values are of top quality.
What’s Hot?
- Ram’s performance in dual role
- Interval block
- Background score for a few scenes
What’s Not?
- Poor execution
- Shabby writing
- Zero thrills, zero suspense
- Unnecessary subplots
- Bland narrative
Verdict: To put it in simple terms, Red is a poorly executed film which was promoted as a suspense thriller. It neither evokes suspense nor has any thrilling elements. The film drags on and on and on with unnecessary sub tracks which do not gel with the narrative. Ram delivers a fine performance in dual role and that could very well be the only positive aspect of the film.
Watch or not: Strictly for Ram’s fans who have been waiting for a long time to watch his film in theatres, the rest can give it a skip.

First Half Report:
Nothing exciting except the suspense of who killed Akash. Not much progress within the story, Director took a lot of time to establish characters. Dinchink song is a good mass number for Ram, his dances are energetic. Interval bang is pretty bland, let’s wait and see how the later half goes.

07.00 A.M: 45 mins into the movie, nothing great about it so far. Story has not progressed much, director established all the characters. Nuvve Nuvve song shot in beautiful Italy locations, the song is between Siddarth (Ram) and Mahima (Malavika). Nice melody but reminds of an old tune.
06.52 A.M: Actress Pavitra, Aditya (Dual Ram), & Satya do pretty crimes for money. Amritha Iyer second heroine of the movie is introduced.
06.50 A.M: Aditya is addicted to gambling, he looses 8 lakhs in one night. He and Satya get a warning from goons to repay full amount in a week.
06.45 A.M: Satya plays Aditya’s friend character. Comedy did not work out much in initial scenes. Aditya gets him out of court case.
06.35 A.M: Director established Siddarth (Civil Engineer) and Aditya characters (Ram Double action) in first 15 mins. Movie shifted to Siddarth and Malavika’s love story. Love scenes are a blatant copy of other movies, nothing new.
06.30 A.M: Double-action Ram entry, awara kind of guy. Dinchik dinchik, first song, Ram dances are energetic, glamour show by Hebah Patel. A good mass number.
06.15 A.M: Movie started with Ram and Malavika Sharma both introduced as working in MNC. Ram tries to impress her.

Red Movie Review: Ram’s RED Released Can it break Ismart Shankar Record?
Red Movie Review: Red is an Indian Telugu movie released in almost all Indian languages on 14 January 2021. Ram is playing the lead role in the film.
After ismart Shankar , Ram’s Red is also having the same hype in two Telugu states i.e. Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Will the consecutive releases of Krack and Master affect Ram’s Red ?
Well! Krack is a hit in Telugu states while Master is a dubbed movie came with huge expectations but got mixed reviews in Telugu, but collections were huge than expected.
Will Red also win in the Sankranthi Marathon along with Alludu Adura and will Krack and Master hype effect Ram’s Red? Let’s have a quick review and decide it yourself
Plot of the Movie:
Lives of Two look-alike men living in the same city will take a turn when one of them killed a person. Red is a crime thriller revolves around finding a culprit among two look-alike men.
The movie started in October 2020 then, but due to covid and lockdown film got postponed. Red gonna clash with Alludu Adura releasing on the same day.
And Krack and Master are having the same talks from the release and till now. The audience is giving an overwhelming response for Krack and Master .
Will Red survive in this situation? No doubt! It will survive because the audience will always give good response to Movie with content and we expect that for Red too
Red Movie Review:
The movie revolves around two look-alike men. The movie is a Tamil remake which is rated 2.5 out of 5, but got full marks for the acting of Arun Vijay.
Ram is the main male lead in Telugu remake of Thadam. The main plus point of the movie is background music by Manisharma. The acting of Ram is very impressive. Two female leads have their importance.
The story is good and the audience will enjoy the movie thoroughly. But there is some lag and flaws in the film that make the non-Telugu audience test their patience.
Probably the acting and some twists are the main reasons that make the audience stick in their seats.
Plus Points:
Ram’s acting was so good that you can watch it just for Ram. The acting of every artist is outstanding.
The female leads are very attractive. The supporting characters are also well designed and have their respective portions. It attracts the mass audience with elevations.
The background music gives goosebumps to the audience. Interval scenes are crucial and jaw-dropping.
Coming to the technical team, the story is good, direction is also engaging and cinematography is good to a level.
Minus Points:
The movie is a remake of a Tamil film which has fewer ratings and the story doesn’t have the potential to carry the emotions of two people.
The movie can be compressed by editing. Female leads don’t have much importance and there are some confusions when the two alike men get interrogated. There are chances of testing audience patience.

Red Movie review – A Lackluster remake
Red Movie review
Telugu360 Rating: 2.5/5
After the super success of Ismart Shankar, Ram is all set for the release of his next film RED, a remake of Tamil blockbuster Thadam. Kishore Tirumala directed this action thriller and Nivetha Pethuraj, Malavika Sharma, Amriya Aiyer played other crucial roles. Ram will be seen in a dual role in RED that is carrying decent expectations. Manisharma is on board as the music director and Ram’s uncle Sravanthi Ravikishore bankrolled RED that is hitting the screens today. Here is the complete review of RED:
RED is the story of Aditya and Siddharth who are look alikes essayed by Ram. While is Aditya is a thief, Siddharth owns a construction firm and he is in love with Mahima (Malavika Sharma). An unexpected murder makes Siddharth the main accused through a clue. It is then the cops trace out Aditya. The cops get two days of time to find out who is behind the murder of a youngster Akash. Watch RED to know about a series of incidents behind the crime.
Ram seems to be in the complete hangover of his previous blockbuster film Ismart Shankar. Ram exhibits similar shades and is presented in the similar manner as Ismart Shankar. The first half of RED looks bland and uninteresting. The first song with Hebah Patel is a treat for masses. The love story lacks freshness and is quite boring. The interval episodes are quite interesting and keep the audience guessing. On the whole, the first half of RED is neither impressive nor disappointing. The second half is quite crucial for a film like RED.
The second half of RED is focused on investigation and it happens on a serious note. Ram thrills the audience in dual roles but the film has unwanted stuff throughout. The flashback episodes are a huge letdown for the movie. It doesn’t justify the plot or the lead characters of the film. RED lacks engaging narration and misses several logics. The production values of RED are quite poor. The climax too fails to make an impact. Outdated episodes, poor presentation makes the second half of RED fall flat.
Performances:
Ram tops the show with his energetic performance throughout the film. He excels in a dual role. Malavika Sharma looks good in a meaty role. Amritha Aiyer and her portions are quite good. She does her part well. Nivetha Pethuraj performs well as a honest cop. Sampath Raj, Satya and others delivered their best in the film. All the other actors did their jobs well.
RED has a thin plot and is laced around a muder mystery. Though the director tried hard to present the film as a commercial entertainer, he fails to do his job. The music and background score make no sense. The cinematography work is ok and the production values are quite poor. Kishore Tirumala pens some decent dialogues but he fails badly in directing a thriller.
Ram’s RED falls flat as the film offers nothing new and interesting. Except Ram’s performance and few thrilling moments, RED is a huge disappointment.

RED movie review: Ram-starrer is let down by inconsistent drama, lack of unified direction
RED is a story about two twins who can’t stand the sight of each other, and instead of focusing on the present, the film spends a significant amount of time explaining why they evolved into yin and yang.
There’s a scene in Kishore Tirumala’s RED , where its two protagonists Siddharth and Aditya are at each other’s throats in a police station. No matter how many police officials try to stop them, they don’t give up. They pummel each other to the extent that they start bleeding. It’s a fascinating moment in the story, which until then doesn’t reveal how the two are related to each other. But what makes it interesting is that both Siddharth and Aditya are identical twins, played by Ram Pothineni. It’s this moment in the story that truly does justice to the actor’s relentless energy which could explode any moment. Unfortunately, it’s one of the very few moments which takes you by surprise, because the hatred between the two feels so visceral that you become more invested in their lives. The film, however, is filled with sequences which are meant to be clues in the larger picture, but there’s hardly anything that genuinely intrigues you.
A remake of a Tamil film, Thadam , RED stars Ram in dual roles. In one character, he’s Siddharth, a successful businessman, and in another, he’s Aditya, a ruffian who gambles, drinks, cons people, and exhibits a surprisingly good understanding of law. The story is about what happens when these two identical twins become primary suspects in a murder case. The premise is fascinating as the cops discover that they can’t find a clue that would help them solve the case, and their confessions leave no reason to doubt their motives. The only thing which interests the cops is why do they hate each other so much, which derails their investigation and the narrative itself.
The film takes its own sweet time before it reveals its conflict.
First, the narrative focuses on building the lives of Siddharth and Mahima (Malvika Sharma), and then, Kishore Tirumala intersperses this with Aditya’s wayward life. The difference between the two couldn’t be more evident, but even then, we are clueless about what’s going to happen next because their two worlds hardly clash with each other. And once they come face to face, they tell stories about their past and try to prove that the other person is guilty. The problem with RED is that it explains too much. Starting from their childhood to what forced them to separate, RED explains the lives of its two characters so much that we end up losing interest in the investigation itself. The drama doesn’t leave you with a high. It treats its more thrilling elements as a sideshow because it tries to turn the story into a wholesome family drama. Despite an interesting premise, the film itself isn’t consistently interesting.
On the brighter side, Ram is at the top of his game and he’s the best part of the movie. His portrayal of Aditya is the most fascinating part of the film and he keeps you guessing about what he’s going to do. Kishore Tirumala does well to build the individual lives of Siddharth and Aditya, letting Ram walk the extra mile to give it all to the story. Among others, it’s Amrita Aiyer who leaves a strong impression in her limited screen presence. Her portrayal of Gayatri, who’s quite subdued by nature, is quite heartfelt. Malvika Sharma as Ram’s romantic interest doesn’t get enough material to work with, but more than her, it’s Nivetha Pethuraj, who finds herself consistently perplexed about what’s happening around her. Nivetha plays a cop investigating the case, but the script doesn’t give her scope to make a splash.
The trope of an unreliable narrator driving forward the story has been a recurring theme in several Hollywood thrillers, especially in films like Gone Girl and Usual Suspects . While RED doesn’t have anything to do with those films, it deviates significantly from its core strength. At its heart, RED is a story about two twins who can’t stand the sight of each other, and instead of focusing on the present, the film spends a significant amount of time explaining why they evolved into yin and yang. This kind of dualism is ubiquitous in the story. It gives the characters the freedom to come alive, but curtails the height to which they can jump. It wants us to believe in its world, but it doesn’t make the journey interesting. It taps into the lead actor’s energy occasionally, but it doesn’t know what more to do when the focus isn’t on Ram. Perhaps, the title itself is a hat tip to the most important thing that it tries to drive home. That no matter what happens in life, blood is thicker than water.

Red is a 2021 Indian Telugu-language crime thriller film that was produced by Sri Sravanthi Movies and directed by Kishore Tirumala. Alongside Nivetha Pethuraj, Malvika Sharma, and Amritha Aiyer, Ram Pothineni plays a dual character in the film. It is a remake of the Tamil movie Thadam (2019), and it centers on a murder investigation in which the key suspects are a civil engineer and a man who looks like him.
The movie’s main shoot began in November 2019 and ended in March 2020 after it was revealed in October. Except for two songs, which were filmed in Italy, the majority of the movie was filmed in Hyderabad. Mani Sharma composed the soundtrack for Red, and Sameer Reddy and Junaid Siddiquii handled the filming and editing, respectively.
The film was released on 14 January 2021, coinciding with Sankranthi, after being delayed from its initial release date of 9 April 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film received mixed critical reviews.
Siddharth is an IIT graduated civil engineer running a successful building firm, while his lookalike, Aditya, is a gambling thief who deceives people along with his sidekick, Vema. Siddharth is in love with Mahima, while Gayathri loves Aditya, unaware of his real identity. One day, Aditya tries to help Vema pay his debt by extracting money from Gayathri through lies, but she helps him in spite of knowing the truth. After taking the money, Aditya is enraged, and so is Siddharth after a party. That night, one of them breaks into a house and attacks the owner, Akash, stabbing him to death.
The next day, Aditya frees Vema by paying his debt and wins Gayathri’s trust by returning her money and telling her the truth. As the investigation of Akash’s murder proceeds, a selfie clicked by a couple nearby is found with either Siddharth or Aditya in it. Both of them are brought in and interrogated without knowledge of the other’s presence. CI Nagendra, who shares an old rivalry with Siddharth, tortures him. Siddharth’s alibi is that his car broke down, and as his car doesn’t have the repair kit, he called a taxi driver to help him. Sub-inspector Yamini handles Aditya, who on the other hand, cites various laws to escape torture. She reaches out to Akash’s friend and shows him the photograph of Siddharth/Aditya, but he refuses to recognize him. She also questions Vema and orders him not to leave the city without permission, but he secretly escapes.

RED Review – A Dull And Tedious Thriller
OUR RATING 2/5
CENSOR ‘U/A’ Certified, 2h 26m
What steps does Aditya take to repay the amount? How Siddharth gets entangled in the mess? Did they get out and how it plays out is what the movie is all about?
How Is Ram Pothineni’s Performance? Ram plays a dual role for the first time in his career. The makeover is good, and the styling is done neatly. And this is the best that one can talk about. It doesn’t mean he has done anything wrong, but nothing is new from him except the physical change.
If Siddharth is the typical Ram, then Aditya is the extension of the actor’s personality from Ismart Shankar. So, it is nothing unusual or different from him. He has done everything that needs to be done with sincerity. He is the reason one continues to watch the proceedings even when it is not engaging.
Every successful director develops a strong zone and genre, and not everyone is successful attempting different one’. There is a reason why it is so. When one watches Red, it is easy to understand why.
Red as a thriller offers a decent scope to thrill and has moments story-wise. It is not an original idea and is a remake of Tamil film Thadam. Despite having a blueprint and vision, Kishore Thirumala fails in execution.
It feels as if he didn’t have any interest in remaking the Tamil movie. We can sense that going by how the initial portions of Red take place. There is an urban love story at the start. The director fails in making it engagingly. It is his weakest writing-wise. We are here looking at it purely as a romantic drama, something that the director specialises.
If that is the case executing the parts which belong to Kishore Tirumala’s strength, imagine what happens when the actual content takes place. In the second half, we get a 90’s outdated drama kind of movie instead of a thrilling narrative.
The lack of thrills and the gripping narrative is where Red loses interest. For a thriller, it is sacrilege to have no gripping moment. We get a glimpse of that in the pre-interval and interval period. But, that is short-lived.
The tonal inconsistency is visible right from the start when there is an over the top drama happening at one end, and a romantic drama is taking shape at the other. It gives messy and going through the motions kind of feeling with nothing happening to hold the attention.
The changes brought in to give nativity touch further take away the thrilling factor associated with the narrative and the story. The needless comedy and some miscasting further aggravate the situation which continues that way until the end.
Overall, Red is a thriller with hardly any thrills. Nothing works in the movie except the pre-interval and interval stretch. The director’s inability to provide a gripping and consistent tone is the fault here. If you have seen the original skip Red. If you haven’t, the remake is a below-par thriller.
Malvika and Others?
Malvika Sharma is dull and lifeless lacking any screen presence. It dramatically affects the opening romantic thread.
Nivetha Pethuraj is a miscast entirely. The seriousness of the whole narrative goes for a toss with her presence. It doesn’t help her cause that few other characters are introduced along with her for fun sake. Nivetha and those additions are the primary reason for the dilution of the thrilling bits.
Amrita Aiyer is better among the female leads, but she gets limited screen time. Sampath Raj is loud and boisterous in his typical style. Pavitra Lokesh is wasted in a poorly treated role. Sathya fails to provide fun due to weak punches and writing. Posani and Vennela Kishore make no impact.
Drawbacks? Direction Tonal Inconsistency Jarring Narrative Weak Writing
Did I Enjoy It? No
Will You Recommend It? Yes, but With Huge reservations

There will be only a few movies that would be coming with a lot of decent buzz that it seems almost the movie is a blockbuster beyond doubt. Ram Pothineni’s RED belongs to that cadre and this movie rightly earned that credit. They waited really long without going for OTT release.
Director Kishore Tirumala’s previous movies with Ram Pothineni and the confidence he earned from Sravanthi Ravi Kishore and the hero are really commendable. Whenever a hero invests so much confidence in a director, it sure adds to the buzz.
The original movie from Tamil was a super hit movie and going by the trailer, it’s understood that they had tweaked the narration a bit and included commercial elements to it to make it commercially more viable for Ram’s market in Telugu.
All in all being a festival release, the audiences are in a mood to welcome every entertainer and watch the movies in theatres after staying at home for such a long period. RED, on the face of it has all the things well set for the theatrical release. Stay tuned for the unbiased RED movie review.

Analysis "Red" is an official remake of the Tamil movie "Thadam". The film deals with a murder case and two identical twins played by Arun Vijay. The core idea is taken without tampering for the Telugu version, but director Kishore Tirumala has stretched the plot beyond a point, thereby diluting the impact.
Verdict: On the whole, Red is a suspense thriller that works here and there. The story idea is good and Ram leads from the front with his impressive act. But the screenplay is weak, twists and narration are also jaded making this film a just an okay watch this weekend. 123telugu.com Rating : 2.75/5.
