Editable Country & world map templates for PowerPoint Presentations

Exactly for that reason, we have prepared a complete PowerPoint filled with different world and country maps to download. This template serves you mappings to use right away, but also shows you how to add text, pictogram's and data to your presentation maps, in an interesting way. Of course you can change any of those slides to your preferences by adjusting the colours, forms, layouts and so on. Read our instruction to learn how to edit maps in PowerPoint. Map chart are a relatively new feature of PowerPoint - it's only available since Office 2019 or Office 365! If you also want to use your mappings in older versions of PowerPoint , the compatibility mode could be a nice solution. Here we give you an instruction to edit the mappings of our PowerPoint template or create your own mappings for your presentation.

Insert maps

Recently PowerPoint created the feature of creating a map in the program itself. This tool is very powerful but since it's quite new, some bugs occur from time to time. Nevertheless, here is how you quickly add a map to your slides:

• Click in the menu bar on Insert > Chart .
• A window pops up. Select Map and click OK .

• PowerPoint creates a default world map and opens a table in which you can write any other country names and values. PowerPoint will automatically change the map as soon as you change values.

• When you are finished, click on the X of the Excel table to close it. Attention! Until now, PowerPoint allows only 13 different countries. If you add more, they will get ignored. You can add names of continents, countries, regions and postcodes.
• To re-open the Excel table and change anything later as well: Right click on the map and choose "Edit Data" or click on the map and choose Chart Design > Edit Data in the menu ribbon.

Edit the layout of the map to your preferences

As said before, PowerPoint lets us choose between mapping the world or only a continent, focus on a country or using postcodes to draw regions and areas. Keep in mind, that combining different levels might not always work, for example when a city is too small to be seen on a world map.

You can add, remove or change chart elements by selecting the map and clicking on the plus symbol in the right, upper corner. Here you can choose between showing the title, data labels or legend and on which position they should appear.

Moreover, you can use the Design and Format Tabs in the menu to get to the editing tools or double click onto the map. Pay attention on which part of graphic you click on, since the formatting task pane refers to exactly those objects. (Format Chart Area, Format Plot Area or Format Data Series)

To move the map, just click on it and drag it by the graphics border to your desired place. To resize it: Click on its corners and move the mouse. (click Shift at the same time, to maintain the graphics proportions)

PowerPoint offers numerous ways to edit your map, so play around with the tools to create your favourite graphic. For example, you can hide countries without a data value or change the map projection. (The proportions of world maps)

Select your favourite colours

Think about the colour scheme for your whole PowerPoint presentation. A specific scheme for all slides makes the whole presentation easier to follow and your slides will perfectly harmonize together. There are different ways to change your graphics colour depending on, if you want to include the data to your colour plan or if you want to adjust each colour manually.

Use a default colour scheme:

• First, select your map
• Go to Design and click on Change Colours
• Here you can use any of those schemes which consider the inserted data and can go from the brightest to the darkest colour

Task pane: Format Data Series:

• Double click onto the map to open the Format Data Series menu
• Open the Series Colour tool and choose your minimum and maximum colour of decision

Individual colours:

• Select individual countries or parts (they have to be highlighted)
• Choose Fill and optionally Outline . You can also change the "weight" and "dashes"" of the outline
• If you click onto the maps background, you can also change the background colour of the map (makes sense for an island)

Fill all parts with the same colour

• If you have only one country, it makes sense to fill it with a single colour. This can be done with the method explained before (Individual colours) or by selecting your map and going to the chart menu Format > Shape Fill
• As before, you will find the same tools and options to change your objects, colour, outline or even effect (shadow,...)

Tips for PowerPoint maps and charts

• Since you can only add 13 individual countries to a map, PPT quickly comes to its limits. Use Excel if you want to create more complex maps and copy the finished map to your slides.
• If you insert a country's name into the table, PPT ignores the lines between each states and draws only the large country. To add the lines, simply insert two federal- state names instead of the country's name and it will draw each single state.

• The feature of drawing maps is relatively new, PowerPoint sometimes has problems to draw the map. You might have to delete a graphic and start again but the result will pay, so don't give up! Save your project from time to time to avoid the loss of a lot of work.

Our advanced map with even more options

Last but not least, we present you a map for advanced PPT- mapping- users. You can find this map on the last slide of our downloadable PowerPoint presentation . This graphic is an SVG- file, which means that you can grab and move each country of the world map to any place you want. Moreover, you can change it's colour again (the same way as before) and delete or resize them as well.

If you want to find a specific country or make some objects unseen, there's an easy way to do so:

• Go to the Home > Drawing menu and click on Arrange
• Select the last option Selection Pane
• A tool bar will pop up. Here you can click on the right "eye" symbols to hide or un-hide one of the countries.

Five tips to set yourself apart.

Never underestimate the power of great communication. It can help you land the job of your dreams, attract investors to back your idea, or elevate your stature within your organization. But while there are plenty of good speakers in the world, you can set yourself apart out by being the person who can deliver something great over and over. Here are a few tips for business professionals who want to move from being good speakers to great ones: be concise (the fewer words, the better); never use bullet points (photos and images paired together are more memorable); don’t underestimate the power of your voice (raise and lower it for emphasis); give your audience something extra (unexpected moments will grab their attention); rehearse (the best speakers are the best because they practice — a lot).

Minnesota State is the 2024 NCAA Division II men's basketball champion after beating Nova Southeastern 88-85 off a game-winning three pointer with less than a second on the clock.

This victory came one day after the Minnesota State women won their respective title .

DII NCAA men's basketball championship history

The Division II men's basketball championship consists of a 64-team field with eight qualifiers from each region competing at a single regional site. Twenty-three teams earn automatic qualifications and the remaining 41 receive at-large bids to the tournament. Once the eight regionals conclude, respective teams will advance to the Men's Elite Eight at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana.

The DII men's basketball national championship dates back to 1957, skipping 2020 due to COVID-19, with the first-ever championship trophy going to Wheaton (Ill.). Kentucky Wesleyan is the winningest team, with eight national championships. Evansville follows with five titles.

Texas Rangers unveil 2023 World Series rings with unique reversible top, reference to perfect road record

The defending champs received some flashy jewelry on saturday.

In keeping with the ancient laws of combat, the squadron that wins the World Series is rewarded with not only an implied heavyweight-championship title belt but also an actual World Series ring. Speaking of which, on Saturday the Texas Rangers , victors of the 2023 World Series, received their shimmering finger-crowns.

All Rangers players, coaches, and on-field support staff from last season receive one – roughly 60 folks in all. In advance of the ring ceremony, the club released the following details about the ring: 

Starting off, there are 103 blue sapphires on the top of the ring to signify the total number of wins in 2023 (Regular and Postseason), while the 23 red rubies on the ring represent the year the Rangers won the World Series. On the alternate top of the ring, the 49 points of rubies represent the number of players who held a spot on the active roster in 2023. Removing the top reveals 11-0, the team's 2023 postseason road record. There is also the slogan "ROAD Dominance" written using the logos of the four teams the Rangers beat away from home to become champions. The 11 stones on the face of the Rangers logo represent the number of postseason wins on the road. The 52 points of diamonds in "CHAMPIONS" honor the first World Championship in the Rangers 52- year history. There are 16 emerald cut diamonds to recognize the number of consecutive postseason games in which the Rangers hit a home run. 90 stones circling the side of the ring represent the number of regular season wins in 2023. There is one diamond in the World Series trophy to represent the first championship in franchise history. The 3mm stone inside the trophy is to call out the number of American League championships the Rangers have won. Three diamonds on the player side represent the three pillars of baseball of the organization—"Compete with passion, be a good teammate, and dominate the fundamentals." The 72 points of diamonds on the border of the bezel represent the year the Rangers moved from Washington, D.C. to Arlington, Texas (1972).  And 30 stones on the inner bezel represent the 30 home runs the team hit during the postseason. 2.33 carats on the side of the ring represent the 233 home runs the club had during the regular season. Each ring will also include a small covering of a baseball that was used in the 2023 World Series between the Rangers and Arizona Diamondbacks . Inside the shank the player's signature is engraved as well as the postseason series records and the phrase "AS ONE."

That 2023 championship marked the first ever in Rangers franchise history. With a strong returning roster and a future Hall of Famer in Bruce Bochy pulling the dugout levels, Texas has plausible designs on a repeat and, thus, a second big ol' ring.

Details of Texas Rangers’ World Series tell story 52 years in the making

ARLINGTON – Sure, it’s enormous . It’s Texas. Of course, it’s enormous.

The Texas Rangers waited 52 years to slip World Series championship rings on their fingers . You think they were going to go for understated? It has 450 bits and points of diamonds, rubies and sapphires totaling 13 carats of gemstones. It weighs more than a baseball. For crying out loud, it’s got a reversible top , you know, in case you need to match the face of the ring to an outfit. As if anybody is going to wear this outside.

Mostly, though, what it has are stories. Yes, diamonds are precious. But so are memories. And the rings the Rangers handed out to players and travel party members ahead of Saturday’s 11-2 throttling of the Chicago Cubs were full of nods to 2023. Every ring is meant to tell a story.

Every ring-wearer has one to tell, too.

About the stories, one sec. First, let us tell you that the 2024 Rangers lineup does, in fact, bear a resemblance to last year’s group of bashers. Corey Seager had four hits on Saturday. New Ranger Jared Walsh, who acknowledged being a big “jealous” watching the ring ceremony from the dugout, had three, including a homer. The Rangers scored six runs in the eighth inning to blow it open.

GM Chris Young’s own story had led him to put together a team dinner and ring reveal Friday. On the day he got his ring with Kansas City in 2016, he was the scheduled starter. Was handed the ring. Went to warm up. Lost the game. And when he went back to his locker afterward to look at it, it was a bit “anti-climactic,” he said. He wanted his players from 2023 to know what the ring symbolized. And there was reason to include the new guys, too.

“The players deserved an intimate setting to see them and get the stories,” he said. “I wanted to celebrate 2023 and kick-start 2024 . I wanted them to get the full story, the explanation and to feel special. I hope it was special for everyone.”

Well, let’s check with Mike Maddux.

The plain-speaking pitching coach, in his 43rd year in professional baseball, finally got a World Series ring of his own. He has made 11 holes in one on the golf course in that time. He now has the same number of World Series rings as his brother, the Hall of Famer.

Among those who received rings Saturday, the unique element to Maddux’s story was this: He’s the only man in uniform who’d also been in uniform for the Rangers’ two near misses in 2010 and, more painfully, 2011. Among this ring’s features: Three diamonds on the side with the recipient’s name that symbolize the Rangers three total trips to the World Series. He’s lived them all.

The ring and the ceremony left Maddux a blubbery mess, so to speak. He found himself momentarily quoting J.D. Salinger and Barry Gibb, neither of whom ever had a fastball to speak of, but one wrote The Catcher in the Rye , the other authored the Bee Gees’ first hit.

“There is a little completeness to this,” Maddux said. “All that grind going on year after year chasing the dream. I always talk about that last out of the season like Holden Caulfield’s sister, Phoebe, in Catcher in the Rye . We get on that carousel and try to grab the ring. That personifies my baseball career up to last year; always chasing that dream and to finally get hold of that ring.”

And of the ring, literal, rather than literate?

“It’s breathtaking,” Maddux said.

“It kind of mends a broken heart,” he added, harking back to the past. “I think the Bee Gees wrote that song ‘How do you Mend a Broken Heart?’ By winning a championship.”

For Corey Seager and Max Scherzer, two of three returning players to have already won a ring, there was also a level of more completion. Scherzer won in 2019 with Washington, then got his ring in the mail when any pomp having to do with the 2020 season fell to COVID restrictions. Seager won in 2020 when the season was trimmed to 60 games because of COVID.

“It’s the same thing to be the last team standing,” Seager said. “You go through trials and tribulations no matter how long the season is, but being the first one for this organization and the ring being a reason why you came here, that’s special.”

The ring also told a story to Seager. Because he’s blissfully oblivious to just about everything not having to do with the game at hand, he was not aware of one aspect of the symbolism in the Rangers’ ring. He knew the Rangers had won 11 straight road games in the postseason . Just wasn’t aware they were R-O-A-D games.

The Rangers’ record postseason road winning streak is called out on the ring. When the top is flipped up, it reveals an outline of the USA, complete with the Rangers’ travel path from the final week of the season through clinching the World Series.

Across the top of the outline is R-O-A-D, the acronym formed by taking the first letter of the nickname of each club the Rangers beat during the playoffs: Rays, Orioles, Astros and Diamondbacks. For fans, it’s become a well-known factoid in the wake of the postseason. But, for Seager, it was all new.

“That was really cool,” Seager said. “They did an outstanding job with this. The detail and the stories are amazing. The effort made to tell the stories and bring back memories was fantastic.”

That was his view even before receiving his actual ring.

Two hours later, he was handed one. He stood next to Marcus Semien, a first-time ring-winner, on the infield during the ceremony. They opened the lids to the jewel boxes and stared at them again. And they both smiled. Wide.

“It’s just emotional because of all the hard work that we put in, day in and day out last year,” Semien said. “[Owners] Ray [Davis] and Neil [Leibman] kept telling us how nice they would be. They weren’t lying at all.”

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has issued an Invitation to Tender (ITT) for Sport Presentation Services for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.

The ICC requires a Sport Presentation Services Partner who will be responsible for producing and providing an innovative creative proposal, high-quality integrated programme, management and implementation through the tournament.

This RFP is intended to attract responses from companies with extensive experience in providing similar services, and with the capability to deliver to a world class standard. The successful company will be notified of the decision at the end of the ITT process.

What is Good Friday? What the holy day means for Christians around the world

Christians around the world observe Good Friday two days before Easter, but what is it, and why do they commemorate the holy day?

The holiday is part of Holy Week, which leads up to Easter Sunday. Palm Sunday kicks off the series of Christian holy days that commemorate the Crucifixion and celebrate Jesus Christ's resurrection.

"Good Friday has been, for centuries now, the heart of the Christian message because it is through the death of Jesus Christ that Christians believe that we have been forgiven of our sins," Daniel Alvarez, an associate teaching professor of religious studies at Florida International University, told USA TODAY.

When is Good Friday?

Good Friday is always the Friday before Easter. It's the second-to-last day of Holy Week.

In 2024, Good Friday will fall on March 29.

What is Good Friday?

Good Friday is the day Christ was sacrificed on the cross. According to Britannica , it is a day for "sorrow, penance, and fasting."

"Good Friday is part of something else," Gabriel Radle, an assistant professor of theology at the University of Notre Dame, previously told USA TODAY. "It's its own thing, but it's also part of something bigger."

Are Good Friday and Passover related?

Alvarez says that Good Friday is directly related to the Jewish holiday, Passover.

Passover , or Pesach, is a major Jewish holiday that celebrates the Israelites’ exodus from Egypt.

"The whole Christian idea of atoning for sin, that Jesus is our atonement, is strictly derived from the Jewish Passover tradition," said Alvarez.

How is that possible?

According to the professor, Passover celebrates the day the "Angel of Death" passed over the homes of Israelites who were enslaved by the Egyptians. He said that the Bible states when the exodus happened, families were told to paint their doors with lamb's blood so that God would spare the lives of their firstborn sons.

Alvarez says this is why Christians call Jesus the "lamb of God." He adds that the symbolism of the "blood of the lamb" ties the two stories together and is why Christians believe God sacrificed his firstborn son. Because, through his blood, humanity is protected from the "wrath of a righteous God that cannot tolerate sin."

He adds that the stories of the exodus and the Crucifixion not only further tie the stories together but also emphasize just how powerful the sacrifice of the firstborn and the shedding of blood are in religion.

"Jesus is the firstborn, so the whole idea of the death of the firstborn is crucial," said Alvarez.

He adds that the sacrifice of the firstborn, specifically a firstborn son, comes from an ancient and "primitive" idea that the sacrifice unleashes "tremendous power that is able to fend off any kind of force, including the wrath of God."

Why Is Good Friday so somber?

Alavarez says people might think this holiday is more depressing or sad than others because of how Catholics commemorate the Crucifixion.

"I think [it's] to a level that some people might think is morbid," said Alvarez.

He said Catholics not only meditate on Jesus' death, but primarily focus on the suffering he faced in the events that led up to his Crucifixion. That's what makes it such a mournful day for people.

But, the professor says that Jesus' suffering in crucial to Christianity as a whole.

"The suffering of Christ is central to the four Gospels," said Alvarez. "Everything else is incidental."

According to the professor, statues that use blood to emphasize the way Jesus and Catholic saints suffered is very common in Spanish and Hispanic Countries, but not as prevalent in American churches.

Do you fast on Good Friday?

Father Dustin Dought, the executive director of the Secretariat of Divine Worship of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, previously told USA TODAY that Good Friday and Ash Wednesday are the two days in the year that Roman Catholics are obliged to fast.

"This practice is a way of emptying ourselves so that we can be filled with God," said Dought.

What do you eat on Good Friday?

Many Catholics do not eat meat on any Friday during Lent. Anything with flesh is off-limits. Dought says this practice is to honor the way Jesus sacrificed his flesh on Good Friday.
