It is a matter of immense pleasure for me to be a part of the Pondicherry University (a Central University) family as its Vice Chancellor. I take this opportunity of welcoming students coming from all parts of the world, joining the University in PostGraduate and Doctoral programmes for the academic year 2021-22. Eligibility Criteria for Pondicherry University PhD Admission 2023-24

• Candidates who have studied under 10+2+3+2 pattern of education (or 10+2+5) and qualified for the Master’s Degree in the subject concerned or in an allied subject and have qualifications as prescribed by the regulations for the subject concerned under all the Schools/ Departments/ Centres of Humanities and Social Sciences, Management, Commerce, Science, Education, Fine Arts and Languages and such other disciplines of Pondicherry University, or a degree accepted as equivalent by the University securing a minimum of 55% marks (or equivalent grade).
• Candidates who have studied under 10+2 pattern of education and qualified for the Master’s degree in the Schools/ Faculty of Law, Engineering and Technology, Agriculture, Veterinary Science or the degree of Doctor of Medicine or Master of Surgery in the Faculty of Medicine/Dentistry/Paramedical of this University or any other University, through regular full time study, recognized by this University securing a minimum of 55% marks (or equivalent grade).
• Candidates who have studied under 10+2 pattern of education and qualified for the Degree of Master of Science of three-year duration in the School/ Faculty of Medicine of this University or of any other university recognized by this University securing a minimum of 55% marks (or equivalent grade).
• Candidates of Indian origin or overseas students who have qualified for a Master’s degree of an accredited overseas university securing a minimum of 55% marks (or equivalent grade).
• A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade is allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC(non-creamy layer)/differently-abled categories.

• Candidate can fill Application form online through the University Website.
• Read instructions carefully before filling application form.
• Apply separately for each programme.
• Fill in all columns with complete and correct information after going through the Information Brochure. Incomplete/ false/ wrong information will entail rejection of application. Any claim based on wrong information, wrong course code, category (OBC/ SC/ ST/ EWS/ Gen), etc. will not be entertained at a later stage.
• After proper filling of the application form and payment of fee online, candidates can download their printable application from the University website by following the instructions therein.

• Entrance Exam – 70 %
• Personal Interview & Academic Record – 30 %
• Candidates who have secured 50% marks in the entrance test will be eligible to be called for interview.
• A relaxation of 5% marks will be allowed in the entrance examination for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/ differently-abled category, Economically Weaker Section (EWS).

NEW DELHI: Pondicherry University has extended the deadline for submission of online application forms only for entrance exam for admission into PhD programmes (for exempted category) till November 30, 2022. Interested candidates can apply online at pondiuni.edu.in.

General category candidates are required to pay an application fee of Rs 1,000 while the Sc and ST candidates must pay Rs 500 at the time of submitting their online application form.

Pondicherry University PhD admissions eligibility criteria

Only candidates that have qualified the National Eligibility Test conducted by University Grants Commission (UGC) or Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or such other national level examinations recognized by Pondicherry University as equivalent are eligible to apply. Candidates that have been awarded a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) or any other fellowship for pursuing doctoral research can apply to the programme.

"Mere possession of required educational and other qualifications and being called for interview alone can not be claimed as a right for admission to the Ph.D. programme in the University." states the University. All PhD applicants will be called for an interview and are required to submit a clear written proposal of research conducted while giving sufficient background and obtain the consent of a research supervisor duly recognized by the University within the University area.

Pondicherry University has extended the last date for submission of the online application form for admission to various PhD programmes for the academic session 2022-23. The registration deadline has been extended only for the entrance examination exempted category. Candidates can now apply for the PhD programme at Pondicherry University till November 30, 2022. The application form is required to be submitted online through the university website– pondiuni.edu.in.

Only those candidates who have qualified for the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), National Fellowship for Other Backward Classes (NFOBC), NFSC, MANF or such National Level examination recognized by the university as equivalent and awarded a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) or any other fellowship for pursuing doctoral research are eligible to apply for the PhD admission .

The selection of the candidates for the PhD programme will be done based on the presentation and interview conducted by the concerned departments or centres.

Candidates need to use separate applications for each programme. The payment of the application fee can be made only through online mode. General category candidates need to pay an application fee of Rs 1,000, whereas Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) category candidates need to make a payment of Rs 500.
