విజయ్ దేవరకొండ.. సమంత.. శివ నిర్వాణ.. ఎంతో ఆసక్తి రేకెత్తించిన కాంబినేషన్ ఇది. తమ చివరి చిత్రాలతో నిరాశ పరిచిన ఈ ముగ్గురూ కలిసి చేసిన 'ఖుషి' మంచి పాటలు.. ప్రోమోలతో ప్రేక్షకుల్లో సినిమాపై అంచనాలు పెంచింది. ఈ రోజే ప్రేక్షకుల ముందుకు వచ్చిన 'ఖుషి' ఆ అంచనాలను ఏమేర అందుకుందో చూద్దాం పదండి.

విప్లవ్ (విజయ్ దేవరకొండ) బీఎస్ఎన్ఎల్ లో ఉద్యోగం సంపాదించి తొలి పోస్టింగ్ ఏరి కోరి కశ్మీర్లో తీసుకుంటాడు. కానీ అక్కడికి వెళ్లాక ఎదురైన ఇబ్బందులు చూసి.. తిరిగి తన సొంత సిటీ అయిన హైదరాబాద్ వెళ్లిపోవాలనుకుంటాడు. కానీ అక్కడ ముస్లిం అమ్మాయిలా వేషం వేసుకుని తిరుగుతున్న ఆరాధ్యతో తొలి చూపులోనే ప్రేమలో పడతాడు. కొన్ని రోజుల ప్రయాణం తర్వాత ఆరాధ్య ముస్లిం కాదని.. బ్రాహ్మణ అమ్మాయి అని తెలుస్తుంది. ఆరాధ్యకు కూడా విప్లవ్ మీద ప్రేమ ఉన్నప్పటికీ.. వీరి పెళ్లికి సమస్యలు తలెత్తుతాయి. విప్లవ్ తండ్రి రాష్ట్ర నాస్తిక సంఘానికి అధ్యక్షుడైతే.. ఆరాధ్య తండ్రి సృష్టిని నడిపించేది దేవుడే అని నమ్మే వ్యక్తి. ఈ వైరుధ్యాల నేపథ్యంలో విప్లవ్-ఆరాధ్య.. పెద్దల్ని కాదని ప్రేమ పెళ్లి చేసుకుంటారు. ఆ తర్వాత వీళ్లిద్దరికీ ఎదురైన అనుభవాలేంటి.. వీరి ప్రయాణం ఎలా ముందుకు సాగింది అన్నది మిగతా కథ.

కథనం-విశ్లేషణ:

సినిమా జానర్లలో ఎవర్ గ్రీన్ అంటే ప్రేమకథలే. ఇన్నేళ్ల సినిమా చరిత్రలో ఈ జానర్లో వచ్చినన్ని సినిమాలు మరెందులోనూ వచ్చి ఉండవు. ఐతే వీటిలో ప్రతిసారీ కొత్తదనం చూపించాలంటే కష్టం. ప్రేమకథల్లో రచయితలు.. దర్శకులు ఎన్నో కోణాలను చూపించేశారు. ఒక అమ్మాయి అబ్బాయి ప్రేమించుకోవడం.. వారి ప్రేమకు ఏవో అడ్డంకులు ఎదురు కావడం.. వాటిని అధిగమించి పెళ్లి చేసుకోవడం.. ఆ తర్వాత ఆ ఇద్దరి మధ్య అపార్థాలు తలెత్తడం.. తిరిగి ఆ జంట ఒక్కటవ్వడం.. ఈ ఫార్మాట్లో కొన్ని వందల కథలు చూశాం. ఐతే ఈ రకమైన కథల్లో మణిరత్నం 'సఖి' మూవీ ఎవర్ గ్రీన్ అని చెప్పొచ్చు. మణిరత్నంకి వీరాభిమాని, ఏకలవ్య శిష్యుడు అయిన శివ నిర్వాణ.. ఆయనకు ట్రిబ్యూట్ ఇస్తున్నట్లుగా 'సఖి'ని ఇప్పటి కాలానికి తగ్గట్లు మార్చి తీశాడు. కథ పాతదే అయినా.. విజయ్ దేవరకొండ-సమంత రూపంలో ఒక మంచి లీడ్ పెయిర్ ను ఎంచుకుని.. హేషమ్ అబ్దుల్ నుంచి అదిరిపోయే పాటలు రాబట్టుకుని.. ఆహ్లాదకరమైన కథనంతో సినిమాను నడిపించేశాడు. ప్రేక్షకులకు ఇందులో 'సర్పైజింగ్'గా అయితే ఏమీ అనిపించదు. అదే సమయంలో సినిమా అయితే పెద్దగా బోర్ కొట్టదు. ఒక రొమాంటిక్ ఎంటర్టైనర్ నుంచి కోరుకునే అంశాలకు ఇందులో లోటు లేదు.

ఒక లవ్ స్టోరీకి చాలా కీలకమైన అంశాలు.. చక్కటి లీడ్ పెయిర్.. మంచి సంగీతం.. ఆహ్లాదకరమైన విజువల్స్. మిగతా విషయాలు వీక్ గా ఉన్నా సరే.. ఇవి క్లిక్ అయితే ఆ సినిమా పాసైపోతుంది. 'ఖుషి' ఈ కోవకు చెందిన సినిమానే. కథ పరంగా అయితే 'ఖుషి' ఎక్కడా పెద్దగా ఎగ్జైట్ చేయదు. ప్రేమ.. పెళ్లి.. ఎడబాటు.. చివరగా కథ సుఖాంతం.. ఇలా రొటీన్ గా సాగిపోయే సినిమా ఇది. కానీ ఈ కథకు ఎంచుకున్న నేపథ్యం.. కథనాన్ని నడిపించిన తీరు 'ఖుషి'ని భిన్నంగా నిలబెడతాయి. దేవుడిని ప్రగాఢంగా నమ్మే హీరోయిన్ తండ్రి.. పరమ నాస్తికుడైన హీరో తండ్రి.. ఈ కుటుంబాల మధ్య వైరుధ్యాన్ని కథలో కాన్ఫ్లిక్ట్ పాయింట్ గా ఎంచుకోవడం బాగుంది. దీని మీద సంఘర్షణను శివ నిర్వాణ బాగా నడిపించాడు. ఈ పాయింట్ ను మినహాయిస్తే సినిమాలో కొత్తగా.. బలంగా అనిపించే విషయాలేమీ లేవు. అమ్మాయిని చూడగానే అబ్బాయి మైమరిచిపోతూ తన వెంట తిరగడం.. ఆమె అతణ్ని పట్టించుకోకపోవడం.. చివరికి అతడి ప్రేమను గుర్తించి తనూ ప్రేమలో పడిపోవడం.. ఇలా ప్రథమార్ధంలో సాగే ప్రేమకథ ఏమంత గొప్పగా అనిపించదు. కాకపోతే సన్నివేశాలు మరీ బోర్ కొట్టకుండా వినోదాత్మకంగా నడిపించడం ప్లస్. వెన్నెల కిషోర్ సాయంతో విజయ్ బాగానే ఎంటర్టైన్ చేయగలిగాడు. కానీ కథలో మాత్రం పెద్దగా కదలిక కనిపించదు.

హీరో హీరోయిన్ల తండ్రుల ఆలోచనల్లో వైరుధ్యం వల్ల సమస్య తలెత్తి విరామ సమయానికి కథ మలుపు తిరుగుతుంది. ఇక్కడ తర్వాత ఏం జరుగుతుందనే ఆసక్తి బాగానే అనిపించినా.. పెళ్లి తర్వాత భార్యా భర్తల మధ్య తలెత్తే అపార్థాల నేపథ్యంలో నడిచే తర్వాతి వ్యవహారం మళ్లీ రొటీన్ అనిపిస్తుంది. కానీ సన్నివేశాలను సాధ్యమైనంత మేర ఎంటర్టైనింగ్ గా ఉండేలా చూసుకోగలిగాడు శివ నిర్వాణ. చివరి అరగంటలో సినిమాను పూర్తిగా ఎమోషన్ల మీద నడిపించాడు. 'ఖుషి'కి పెద్ద ప్లస్ ఆ అరగంటే. రోహిణి-జయరాం జంట చుట్టూ తిరిగే కేరళ ట్రాక్ ప్రేక్షకులను భావోద్వేగానికి గురి చేస్తుంది. ఇక్కడ్నుంచి చివరి వరకు ఎమోషన్ క్యారీ అవుతుంది. భార్యకు దూరమైన భర్త పడే బాధ.. అతడిలో వచ్చే మార్పు.. ఈ క్రమంలో వచ్చే సన్నివేశాలు.. డైలాగులు బాగా కుదిరాయి. పతాక సన్నివేశాలతో మరింత మార్కులు కొట్టేసిన శివ.. అంతకుముందు దొర్లిన తప్పులను మన్నించేలా చేయగలిగాడు. ప్రథమార్ధంలో కథ పరంగా ఏదైనా కొత్తదనం చూపించి ఉంటే.. సినిమాను వేగంగా నడిపించి ఉంటే.. 'ఖుషి' స్పెషల్ ఫిల్మ్ అయ్యుండేది. ఆ ప్రతికూలతల వల్ల 'ఓకే' అనే ఫీలింగ్ దగ్గర ఆగిపోయింది.

తన సినిమాలు ఫెయిలైనా విజయ్ పెర్ఫామెన్స్ ఎప్పుడూ ఫెయిల్ కాదు. మంచి పాత్ర పడితే.. కథ కుదిరితే విజయ్ ఎలా సినిమాను తన భుజాల మీద నడిపిస్తాడో 'ఖుషి'లో చూడొచ్చు. విప్లవ్ పాత్రతో.. విజయ్ నటనతో యూత్ బాగా కనెక్ట్ అవుతారు. తనదైన శైలిలో ఎంటర్టైన్ చేయడమే కాక.. ఎమోషనల్ సీన్లలో కూడా విజయ్ చక్కటి పెర్ఫామెన్స్ ఇచ్చి తన ప్రత్యేకతను చాటుకున్నాడు. పతాక సన్నివేశాల్లో అతడి నటన చాలా బాగా సాగింది. సమంత లుక్స్ పరంగా విజయ్ కు దీటుగా నిలవలేకపోయింది కానీ.. తన నటన ఓకే. సామ్ లో మునుపటి చార్మ్ అయితే కనిపించలేదు. కథలో కీలకమైన సన్నివేశాల్లో ఆమె నటన ఆకట్టుకుంటుంది. సచిన్ ఖేద్కర్.. మురళీ శర్మ తమ అనుభవాన్ని చూపించారు. వాళ్ల పాత్రలు కథకు బలమయ్యాయి. వెన్నెల కిషోర్ ప్రథమార్ధ:లో.. రాహుల్ రామకృష్ణ ద్వితీయార్ధంలో నవ్వులు పంచే బాధ్యత తీసుకున్నారు. శరణ్య ప్రదీప్.. శరణ్య పొన్ వన్నన్.. శత్రు.. రోహిణి.. జయరాం.. వీళ్లంతా తమ పాత్రలో పరిధిలో బాగా నటించారు.

సాంకేతిక వర్గం:

హేషమ్ అబ్దుల్ సంగీతం సినిమాకు అతి పెద్ద ఆకర్షణ. ఆడియో పెద్ద హిట్ కావడంతో పాటల కోసం ప్రేక్షకులు సినిమాలో ఎదురు చూస్తారు. పాట వచ్చినపుడల్లా ఉత్సాహం రెట్టింపవుతుంది. సినిమాలో డల్ మూమెంట్స్ తర్వాత పాటలే హుషారు తీసుకొస్తాయి. కాకపోతే పాటల ప్లేస్మెంట్ సరిగా కుదరలేదు. హేషమ్ నేపథ్య సంగీతం కూడా బాగా సాగింది. మురళి.జి ఛాయాగ్రహణం కూడా ఆహ్లాదకరంగా సాగింది. విజువల్స్ ఆద్యంతం ఆకట్టుకుంటుంది. నిర్మాణ విలువలు మైత్రీ మూవీ మేకర్స్ స్థాయికి తగ్గట్లు ఉన్నాయి. ఇక రైటర్ కమ్ డైరెక్టర్ శివ నిర్వాణ 'టక్ జగదీష్' తర్వాత తన దారిలోకి వచ్చేశాడు. నిన్ను కోరి.. మజిలీ అంత బలమైన.. వైవిధ్యం ఉన్న కథ కాకపోయినా.. దాన్ని బోర్ కొట్టని కథనంతో ముందుకు నడిపించాడు. నటీనటులు.. సాంకేతిక నిపుణుల నుంచి అతను మంచి ఔట్ పుట్ రాబట్టుకున్నాడు. శివ టేకింగ్ ప్లెజెంట్ గా అనిపిస్తుంది. తన డైలాగ్స్ కూడా బాగా కుదిరాయి.

సం చ‌ల‌న విజ‌యాల్ని సొంతం చేసుకుని, అతి త‌క్కువ కాలంలోనే బ‌ల‌మైన అభిమాన‌గ‌ణాన్ని సొంతం చేసుకున్న క‌థానాయ‌కుడు విజ‌య్ దేవ‌రకొండ. ‘లైగ‌ర్‌’తో జాతీయ స్థాయిలో ప్ర‌భావం చూపించాల‌ని ప్ర‌య‌త్నించినా, అది ఫ‌లితాన్నివ్వ‌లేదు. కొంత‌కాలంగా ప‌రాజ‌యాల‌తో స‌త‌మ‌త‌మ‌వుతున్న విజ‌య్ ఈసారి ప్రేమ‌క‌థ‌ని ఎంచుకుని ‘ఖుషి’తో ముందుకు వచ్చారు. స‌మంత (Samanth) క‌థానాయిక‌. శివ నిర్వాణ ద‌ర్శ‌క‌త్వం వ‌హించారు. విజ‌య్‌కి ఉన్న గుర్తింపు, ఆయ‌న మార్కెట్‌కి త‌గ్గ‌ట్టుగా ఈ చిత్రం కూడా పాన్ ఇండియా స్థాయిలోనే విడుద‌లైంది. క‌థేంటంటే: విప్ల‌వ్ దేవ‌ర‌కొండ (విజ‌య్ దేవ‌ర‌కొండ‌) ప్ర‌భుత్వ ఉద్యోగంపై ఇష్టంతో బి.ఎస్‌.ఎన్‌.ఎల్‌లో జేటీవోగా విధుల్లో చేరతాడు. ఏరికోరి క‌శ్మీర్‌లో పోస్ట్ వేయించుకుంటాడు. అక్క‌డే ఆరా బేగం (స‌మంత‌)ని చూసి ప్రేమ‌లో ప‌డ‌తాడు. త‌మ్ముడిని వెదుక్కుంటూ తాను పాకిస్థాన్‌ నుంచి వ‌చ్చాన‌ని చెప్పినా, త‌న కోసం పాకిస్థాన్‌ వెళ్ల‌డానికైనా సిద్ధ‌ప‌డ‌తాడు విప్ల‌వ్‌. అంత‌గా త‌న‌ని ఇష్ట‌ప‌డ‌టం చూసి... ఆ ప్రేమ‌కి ఆరా కూడా ఫిదా అయిపోతుంది. కానీ, వీళ్ల ప్రేమ‌కి పెద్ద‌లు అడ్డు చెబుతారు. (Kushi Movie Review in telugu) భిన్న కుటుంబ నేప‌థ్యాలకి చెందిన ఈ జంట విడిపోవ‌డం ఖాయ‌మ‌ని ఇరు కుటుంబాలూ న‌మ్ముతాయి. మ‌న‌స్ఫూర్తిగా ప్రేమించి పెళ్లి చేసుకున్న ఈ జంట... పెద్ద‌లు చెప్పిన‌ట్టే విడిపోయిందా?  ఇంత‌కీ వీళ్ల కుటుంబాల క‌థేమిటి?పెళ్లయిన తర్వాత ఈ జంట మధ్య ఎలాంటి పరిస్థితులు ఏర్పడ్డాయి?

ఎలా ఉందంటే: ఒక జంట ప్రేమ‌... పెళ్లి జీవితం నేప‌థ్యంలో సాగే క‌థ ఇది. ప్రేమ‌క‌థ‌ల్లో ప్ర‌ధాన సంఘ‌ర్ష‌ణకి ధ‌నిక‌, పేద‌, ప‌రువు, ప్ర‌తిష్ట‌, కులం, మ‌తం వంటి విష‌యాలే ఎక్కువ‌గా కార‌ణ‌మ‌వుతుంటాయి. ఈ క‌థ కూడా ఇంచుమించు అలాంటిదే. కాక‌పోతే ఇందులో ఆస్తికులు, నాస్తికులైన రెండు కుటుంబాల న‌మ్మ‌కాల నుంచి ఆ సంఘ‌ర్ష‌ణ‌ని సృష్టించి క‌థ‌ని న‌డిపించాడు ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు. తొలి భాగం ప్రేమ‌క‌థ‌తో సాగితే, మ‌లిభాగం వైవాహిక జీవితం చుట్టూ సాగుతుంది. కొత్త నేప‌థ్య‌మే ఈ సినిమాకి ప్ర‌ధాన బ‌లం.  ప్ర‌ధాన పాత్ర‌లు ప‌రిచ‌యం కాగానే... క‌థ క‌శ్మీర్‌కి చేరుతుంది. (Kushi Movie Review telugu) అక్క‌డ హీరో-హీరోయిన్లు ఒక‌రికొక‌రు తార‌స‌ప‌డ‌టం...  ఆ త‌ర్వాత ప్రేమ, విన‌సొంపైన పాట‌లు, క‌నువిందు చేసే క‌శ్మీర్ అందాల‌తో సినిమా హాయిగా సాగిపోతుంది. విజ‌య్ దేవ‌ర‌కొండ ( Vijay devarakonda ) , - వెన్నెల కిశోర్ నేప‌థ్యంలో హాస్య స‌న్నివేశాలు కూడా ప్ర‌థ‌మార్ధానికి ప్ర‌ధాన బ‌లం. ద్వితీయార్ధంలోనే అస‌లు సంఘ‌ర్ష‌ణ ఉంటుంది. ప్రేమించి పెళ్లి చేసుకున్న ఓ జంట మ‌ధ్య ఎలాంటి విష‌యాలు అపార్థాల‌కి కార‌ణ‌మ‌వుతుంటాయి? ఇక ఆ జంట భిన్న సంప్ర‌దాయాలు, క‌ట్టుబాట్లతో మెలిగే కుటుంబాల నుంచి వ‌చ్చిన‌ప్పుడు ఆ అపార్థాలు ఇంకెంత‌గా ప్ర‌భావం చూపిస్తాయో సెకండాఫ్‌లో చూపించారు.

చాలా సినిమాల్లో చూసిన ప్రేమ‌క‌థే అయినా  కొత్తర‌క‌మైన నేప‌థ్యాన్ని చూపిస్తూ సంఘ‌ర్ష‌ణ‌, భావోద్వేగాల్ని పండించే ప్ర‌య‌త్నం చేశాడు. అయితే ఈ క‌థ‌లో పండిన సంఘ‌ర్ష‌ణ మోతాదే స‌రిపోలేదు. అటు ప్రేమికుల‌కు, ఇటు భార్యాభ‌ర్త‌ల‌కీ క‌నెక్ట్ అయ్యే స‌న్నివేశాలు త‌క్కువ‌.  ప్ర‌థ‌మార్ధం హాయిగా సాగినా... ద్వితీయార్ధంలో చాలా చోట్ల స‌న్నివేశాలు సాగ‌దీత‌లా అనిపిస్తాయి. ఫెర్టిలిటీ సెంట‌ర్‌లో హ‌డావుడి, కేర‌ళలో స‌న్నివేశాలు వృథా అనిపిస్తాయి. హీరోయిన్‌కి మిస్ క్యారేజ్ అయ్యాక కూడా హీరోకి టెస్టుల పేరుతో తెర‌పై హ‌డావుడిని చూపించ‌డం అంత‌గా అత‌క‌లేదు. (Kushi Movie Review) హీరో-హీరోయిన్ల మ‌ధ్య అపార్థాలు కూడా ఎఫెక్టివ్‌గా అనిపించ‌వు. ప‌తాక స‌న్నివేశాలతో మ‌ళ్లీ ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు ప‌ట్టు ప్ర‌ద‌ర్శించాడు. కుటుంబంతో క‌లిసి చూసే క‌థే అయినా...  విజ‌య్ దేవ‌ర‌కొండ మార్క్ రొమాంటిక్ స‌న్నివేశాలకీ లోటులేకుండా చూసుకున్నాడు. ముఖ్యంగా...  ఆరాధ్య పాట‌లో విజ‌య్‌, స‌మంత మ‌ధ్య కెమిస్ట్రీ ప్ర‌భావం చూపిస్తుంది.

ఎవ‌రెలా చేశారంటే: విజ‌య్ దేవ‌ర‌కొండ‌ సమంత ( Samantha ) జోడీ ప్రతి సన్నివేశంలోనూ ఆక‌ట్టుకుంటుంది. క‌థ‌కి త‌గ్గ ఎంపిక.  ప్రేమలో ప‌డిన జంట‌గా ప్ర‌థ‌మార్ధంలో ఎంత అందంగా క‌నిపించారో,  ద్వితీయార్ధంలో భార్యాభ‌ర్త‌లుగా సహ‌జంగా ఆ పాత్ర‌ల్లో ఒదిగిపోయారు.  ప‌తాక స‌న్నివేశాల్లోనూ, అంత‌కుముందు వ‌చ్చే స‌న్నివేశాల్లోనూ చ‌క్క‌టి భావోద్వేగాల్ని పండించారు. స‌చిన్ ఖేడేక‌ర్‌, ముర‌ళీశ‌ర్మ పాత్ర‌లు సినిమాకి కీల‌కం. ఒక‌రు నాస్తికుడిగా, మ‌రొక‌రు ప్ర‌వ‌చ‌న‌క‌ర్త‌గా పాత్ర‌ల్లో నటించారు. జ‌య‌రాం, రోహిణి, శ‌ర‌ణ్య పొన్‌వ‌ణ్ణ‌న్‌, ల‌క్ష్మీ, శ‌ర‌ణ్య ప్ర‌దీప్ పాత్ర‌ల‌కి త‌గ్గ‌ట్టుగా న‌టించారు. ఫస్టాఫ్‌లో వెన్నెల కిశోర్ కొన్ని న‌వ్వులు పంచితే, ద్వితీయార్ధంలో రాహుల్ రామ‌కృష్ణ సందడి చేస్తారు. అలీ, బ్ర‌హ్మానందం, శ్రీకాంత్ అయ్యంగార్ త‌దిత‌ర న‌టులున్నా ఆశించిన స్థాయిలో హాస్యం పండ‌లేదు. (Kushi Movie Review) ప్ర‌తినాయ‌క పాత్ర‌ల్లో ఎక్కువ‌గా క‌నిపించే శ‌త్రుకి ఇందులో విభిన్న‌మైన పాత్ర దొరికింది. సాంకేతికంగా సినిమా ఉన్న‌తంగా ఉంది. సంగీతం చిత్రానికి ప్ర‌ధాన‌ బ‌లం. హీష‌మ్ పాట‌లు ఎంత బాగున్నాయో, చిత్రీక‌ర‌ణ కూడా అంతే బాగుంది. ముర‌ళీ కెమెరా క‌శ్మీర్ అందాల్ని, ప్ర‌ధాన జోడీ మ‌ధ్య కెమిస్ట్రీని ఆక‌ట్టుకునేలా చూపించింది. ద్వితీయార్ధంలో ఎడిటింగ్ విభాగం మ‌రిన్ని జాగ్ర‌త్త‌లు తీసుకోవాల్సింది. ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు శివ నిర్వాణ తాను న‌మ్మిన ఓ స‌గ‌టు క‌థ‌ని స్ప‌ష్టంగా చెప్పే ప్ర‌య‌త్నం చేశాడు. పాట‌ల‌న్నీ రాసిన ఆయ‌న, క‌థ‌, స్క్రీన్‌ప్లే ర‌చ‌న‌పైన కూడా ఇంకాస్త దృష్టి పెట్టాల్సింది.  నిర్మాణం ఉన్న‌తంగా ఉంది.

Kushi Movie Review: Vijay Deverakonda & Samantha Ruth Elevate Feel-Good Vibes, Yet The Film Lacks Depth In Its Thought-Provoking Conflicts

What’s Good: Vijay Deverakonda & Samantha’s chemistry, amusing albeit somewhat cinematic and silly situations giving feel-good moments.

What’s Bad: It’s predominantly a retread of familiar territory rather than offering something entirely novel.

Loo Break: There are a few predictable scenes; that’s your cue.

Watch or Not?: It’s a family entertainer, regardless if you’re a fan of Vijay Deverakonda or Samantha, the film is worth giving a shot.

Language: Telugu (with subtitles at selected theatres).

Viplav (Vijay Deverakonda) and Aradhya (Samantha Ruth Prabhu) find themselves in love, but soon discover that their families are worlds apart. As they bask in the glow of their love, can they navigate the challenges and bridge the gap to make their relationship endure?

Kushi Movie Review: Script Analysis

Viplav (Vijay Deverakonda) and Aradhya (Samantha Ruth Prabhu) fall in love, only to realise that they and their families are poles apart. Happy in love, will these two manage to make their relationship work?

Shiva Nirvana’s movie doesn’t delve into groundbreaking concepts; instead, it revolves around the everyday and trivial challenges encountered by individuals in their relationships. Numerous films such as Chalte Chalte, Alaipayuthey, Akele Hum Akele Tum, and many others have previously tackled this theme. However, Shiva Nirvana approaches it with a lighthearted touch, particularly in the second half of the film.

The storyline seems to skim over issues without allowing them to resonate deeply. It consistently hurries to introduce a comedic twist or launch into a musical number, ensuring that the feel-good essence remains intact. However, as the film progresses, it becomes increasingly predictable, which somewhat diminishes its impact. Anticipating the next turn of events can make the movie feel somewhat less exhilarating at times.

Even the portrayal of the middle-class setting and the influence of the older couple (played by Rohini and Jayaram), who encourage the younger couple to view the bigger picture beyond their everyday conflicts, bears a resemblance to narratives seen in movies like Alaipayuthey and Okay Kanmani.

Interestingly, the director brilliantly infused how Vijay Deverakonda is a fan of Mani Ratnam films, and thus makes repeated references to the above films, including Roja, and Dil Se. Kushi experiences a shake-up when the parents intervene. There’s a moment when a father responds with a somewhat ‘I-told-you-so’ remark upon learning of an unfortunate incident, choosing ego over emotional support. It serves as a portrayal of the human tendency to prioritize pride. The resolution of the conflict and the convergence of characters with opposing viewpoints occur in the final act.

Although executed brilliantly, the filmmaker could have handled the Kerala segment more effectively. Even the scenes depicting Vijay Deverakonda’s efforts to woo Samantha could have benefited from more refined scripting. Nonetheless, I couldn’t help but be entertained by the amusing albeit somewhat cinematic and silly situations presented in the first half of the film.

Kushi Movie Review: Star Performance

Vijay Deverakonda delivers a performance imbued with innocence and sincerity, effectively channelling his innate charm. It’s been quite some time since the actor has portrayed his original strength – that of an imperfect boy next door. He fully inhabits his character, carrying the film, particularly through some of its weaker later sections. Additionally, there’s a humorous reference to his Arjun Reddy character that elicits laughter from the audience.

In contrast, Samantha ‘s performance initially revolves around her portrayal of a mysterious woman, whom Viplav falls for at first sight in Kashmir during the first half. Gradually, she comes into her own, effortlessly embodying the role of Aradhya, a woman seeking happiness above all else. The duo succeeds in making viewers genuinely care about their characters and their strained marriage. Their on-screen chemistry appears seamless, even during scenes where they can hardly stand each other.

Sharanya Pradeep, portraying the role of the friend, assumes a prominent conversational role, delivering her lines with remarkable ease, especially in the first half, particularly during the Kashmir sequence. Saranya Ponvannan, cast as Viplav’s mother, and Lakshmi, in the role of Aradhya’s grandmother, has the potential to be voices of reason within the narrative but are constrained by limited exposure. Conversely, the father characters, portrayed by Murali Sharma and Sachin Khadekar, take on a somewhat caricatured quality. Despite their efforts to transcend the constraints of their characters, there’s only so much they can do. Rahul Ramakrishna’s performance as Vijay Deverakonda’s friend also deserves commendation.

Kushi Movie Review: Direction, Music

Shiva Nirvana subtly weaves in numerous references to films by the likes of Mani Ratnam, Vijay, and Samantha, enhancing romantic drama with a delightful blend of humour and captivating music. With finesse, he crafts a narrative that skillfully introduces a conflict rooted in clashing ideologies, hidden beneath the surface of entertainment, capable of tarnishing relationships. Shiva Nirvana chooses a straightforward path to convey the notion that love can triumph over disparities. Nevertheless, some characters remain one-dimensional, and the exploration of ideologies lacks depth.

The film’s opening segment underscores Shiva Nirvana’s need to delve into a more nuanced portrayal of characters, embracing their multifaceted nature. Nonetheless, he adeptly leverages the father figures, who border on caricature, to construct a tense sequence aboard a metro train that also elicits laughter from the audience. Moreover, Kushi could have benefited from a more concise runtime to enhance its impact. Nonetheless, Shiva Nirvana presents a film that resonates with family audiences.

Kushi Movie Review: The Last Word

Is Kushi entertaining? Most definitely. This delightful romantic musical is elevated by its charismatic leads, Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha. It had the potential to stand out even further had it delved deeper into the thought-provoking conflict between science and religion with additional consideration and effort.

భర్త పాత్రలో విజయ్ దేవరకొండ చక్కని నటనను కనబరిచాడు. పెళ్లి అయిన తర్వాత ఓ సగటు భర్తగా చాలా బాగా నటించాడు. ముఖ్యంగా ఎమోషనల్ సన్నివేశాల్లో సెటిల్డ్ పెర్ఫార్మెన్స్ తో తన పాత్రకి పూర్తి న్యాయం చేశాడు. మెయిన్ గా సెకెండ్ హాఫ్ లో హోమం సీక్వెన్స్ లో అలాగే సమంత వెళ్ళిపోయాక వచ్చే సీన్స్ లో విజయ్ నటన సినిమాకే హైలెట్ గా నిలుస్తోంది. అలాగే విజయ్ కి – సమంతకి మధ్య కెమిస్ట్రీ కూడా బాగా అలరిస్తుంది

ఇక కథానాయకగా నటించిన సమంత తన పాత్రలో చాలా చక్కగా నటించింది. తన స్క్రీన్ ప్రెజెన్స్ తో పాటు తన నటనతోనూ ఆకట్టుకుంది. చదరంగం శ్రీనివాసరావుగా మురళీ శర్మ, నాస్తికుడు సత్యంగా సచిన్ ఖేడేకర్ తమ నాచ్యురల్ నటనతో ఆకట్టుకున్నారు. ఎప్పటిలాగే తన శైలి పాత్రలో కనిపించిన రోహిణి, లక్ష్మి కూడా బాగా నటించారు. ఇక మిగిలిన నటీనటులు కూడా తమ పాత్ర పరిధి మేరకు బాగా నటించారు.

మైనస్ పాయింట్స్ :

దర్శకుడు శివ నిర్వాణ తీసుకున్న కథాంశం బాగున్నప్పటికీ.. కథనం మాత్రం కొన్ని చోట్ల సింపుల్ గా సాగుతుంది. ముఖ్యంగా ఫస్ట్ హాఫ్ లోని కశ్మీర్ సీక్వెన్స్ అలాగే సెకెండ్ హాఫ్ లో కొన్ని చోట్ల స్క్రీన్ ప్లే స్లోగా సాగుతుంది. ఇక హీరోహీరోయిన్ల మధ్య వచ్చే కొన్ని లవ్ సీన్స కూడా రెగ్యులర్ గానే సాగుతాయి. మొత్తానికి దర్శకుడు తాను అనుకున్న కంటెంట్ ను స్క్రీన్ మీద బాగా ఎలివేట్ చేసినా.. సినిమాలో కొన్ని రొటీన్ సీన్స్ ను ట్రిమ్ చేసి వుంటే సినిమాకి ఇంకా ప్లస్ అయ్యేది.

సాంకేతిక విభాగం :

ఇక సాంకేతిక నిపుణుల గురించి మాట్లాడుకుంటే.. శివ నిర్వాణ దర్శకుడిగా మంచి కథాంశంతో ఆకట్టుకున్నాడు. అలాగే ఆయన టేకింగ్ కూడా చాలా బాగుంది. సంగీత దర్శకుడు హిషామ్ అబ్ధుల్ వహాబ్ అందించిన పాటలు బాగున్నాయి. అదే విధంగా బ్యాక్ గ్రౌండ్ స్కోర్ కూడా కొన్ని కీలక సన్నివేశాల్లో చాలా బాగుంది. ఇక ఎడిటర్ అనవసరమైన సీన్స్ ని ఇంకా టైట్ గా ట్రీమ్ చేసి ఉండి ఉంటే, సినిమాకి ప్లస్ అయ్యేది. సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ బాగుంది. నిర్మాతలు నవీన్ ఎర్నేని-వై.రవిశంకర్ పాటించిన నిర్మాణ విలువలు చాలా బాగున్నాయి.

ఫీల్ గుడ్ లవ్ అండ్ ఫ్యామిలీ డ్రామాగా వచ్చిన ఈ చిత్రం ఎమోషనల్ గా సాగుతూ ఆకట్టుకుంది. దర్శకుడు శివ నిర్వాణ నాస్తికత్వానికి – భక్తికి సంబంధించి మంచి పాయింట్ ను తీసుకుని.. భార్యాభర్తల మధ్య మంచి ఎమోషనల్ సన్నివేశాలతో బాగానే ఆకట్టుకున్నాడు. గుడ్ కాన్సెప్ట్, ఫీల్ గుడ్ లవ్ సీన్స్, ఎమోషనల్ గా సాగే ఫ్యామిలీ ఎమోషన్స్ ఈ సినిమాలో హైలైట్స్ గా నిలిచాయి. ఐతే, ఈ సినిమాలో కొన్ని సీక్వెన్స్ స్లోగా సాగడం, అలాగే కొన్ని రొటీన్ సీన్స్ సినిమాకి మైనస్ అయ్యాయి. కాకపోతే, విజయ్ దేవరకొండ – సమంత తమ నటనతో సినిమాని మరో లెవల్ కి తీసుకువెళ్లారు. ముఖ్యంగా వారిద్దరీ కెమిస్ట్రీ చాలా బాగుంది. ఓవరాల్ గా ఈ ఖుషి ప్రేక్షకులను బాగా మెప్పిస్తోంది.

Kushi movie review.

Vijay Deverakonda, Samantha and Shiva Nirvana is a combination that created a lot of interest among movie lovers. All three of them faced failures with their last films and they came together for a romantic drama titled ‘Khushi’. The songs were a big hit and the promotional content like teaser and trailer too impressed the audience. The expectations are quite high on the movie and let us see how it turned out to be. Story: Viplav (Vijay) gets a job in BSNL and makes sure that his first posting is in Kashmir. After facing a lot of problems there, he decided to return back to Hyderabad. But he instantly falls in love with Aradhya (Samantha) and follows her everywhere. After a few days, Aaradhya reveals that she is not a Muslim and comes from an orthodox Brahmin family. Though Aradhya loves Viplav, their parents don’t support their marriage. While Viplav’s father is the president of Atheist society, Aradhya’s father is an ardent devotee of god. Despite the differences between their families, Aradhya and Viplav get married and start a family separately. What experiences did they face and how they go forward together form the rest of the story. Analysis: Love stories are eternal and this genre never gets old. Filmmakers make a lot of love stories and its strong connection with the youth is the main reason for it. Though one cannot show freshness in this genre, it is very important for the love stories to be relatable. A lot of directors and writers have showcased love from different angles. The story of a boy and girl loving each other and their parents opposing their love which leads to them living separately but issues coming in between them and finally coming back together is something that has been beaten to death in world cinema. We have seen hundreds of films in the same format and Mani Ratnam’s ‘Sakhi’ can be termed as the classic example of it. Shiva Nirvana who considers himself as Ekalavya Sishya of Mani Ratnam has decided to pay tribute to his favourite director by making ‘Sakhi’ once again with some changes. Though the story is old, he made Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha as the lead pair and extracted good music for Hesham and made it a good entertainer with a lot of fun moments. There are no surprise elements in this movie but ‘Khushi’ doesn’t bore you at all. It has everything that you expect from a romantic entertainer. The key elements for a love story are good visuals, great lead pair and wonderful music. Even though the film is weak in other departments, the movie will pass with flying colors if it has these three ingredients. ‘Khushi’ belongs to this category as the story doesn’t excite you at all. It runs on a routine note without a lot of twists. The plotline of an atheist and an ardent Hindu devotee facing each other is a good conflict point. The fight between the families has been showcased well. Expect this, there is nothing novel in the movie. The boy leaving everything behind and running after the girl at the first sight, the girl not looking at him but eventually falling for him is the basic story of the first half. The scenes are entertaining and pleasant to watch. The duo of Vijay and Vennela Kishore entertained the audience a lot but there is no movement in the story. The movie takes a turn when the conflict point between the parents of the hero and the heroine are showcased. This leads to interval and people get excited about the second half but the routine misunderstandings between husband and wife spoil the mood of the film. Shiva Nirvana tried his best to make them as entertaining as possible. The last half and hour completely runs on an emotional note and it is the biggest plus point of ‘Khushi’. The track between Rohini and Jayaram which happens in Kerala touches your heart and the emotion carries till the end. The emotional turmoil of a husband who is away from his wife, the changes in him and the dialogues during these scenes have all worked out well. Shiva scored major marks during the climax portions which overshadows all his mistakes till then. Had Shiva Nirvana showed some freshness in the first half and made the film a bit pacier, ‘Khushi’ would have been a special film. The minuses limited it into an ‘Okay’ film. Performances: Even though his films fail at times, Vijay Deverakonda doesn’t fail when it comes to his performances. ‘Khushi’ shows us how he can carry the film on his shoulders if the character and story are strong enough. Youth gets connected a lot with Viplav’s character and Vijay’s acting. He entertains you a lot and even performs exceedingly well in emotional sequences too. His work in the climax is applause-worthy. Samantha is no match to Vijay in terms of looks but her acting is decent. The charm of Samantha which we love is missing in this film. She did quite well in key scenes of the movie. Sachin Khedkar and Murali Sharma showcased their experience in the movie. They are one of the plus points of this film. Vennela Kishore and Rahul Ramakrishna took the comedy duty in the first half and second half respectively. Saranya, Pradeep, Lakshmi, Shatru, Rohini, Jayaram and others were perfect in their respective roles. Technicians: Hesham Abdul Wahab’s music is the major strength of this movie. The audio turned out to be a big hit before the film’s release which helped the proceedings a lot. The enthusiasm of the audience is doubled when the songs arrived. Though their placement is a bit odd, they energize the audience whenever the film goes into dull mode. Hesham’s background score is equally good. Murali G did a fantastic job. His camera work is impeccable and visuals are a delight to watch. The production values from Mythri Movie Makers are top-notch. After a disappointing flick like ‘Tuck Jagadish’, Shiva Nirvana is back in his element. Though ‘Khushi’ is not as strong as ‘Majili’ or ‘Ninnu Kori’, he made sure that he didn’t bore the audience. He extracted terrific output from technicians and actors. His taking is quite pleasing and his dialogues worked well too. Verdict: ‘Khushi’ – Chalta…Chalta…

Telugu film Kushi, starring Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Sachin Khedekar, Saranya Ponvannan, and Murali Sharma among others, has hit screens worldwide today. A lot is riding on the Shiva Nirvana directorial as both Vijay and Samantha’s recent films have not fared well. While Vijay was last seen in the box office turkey Liger, Samantha’s Shaakuntalam failed to find many takers.

When asked if Kushi’s performance at the box office will be a deciding factor for Vijay and Samantha, film trade analyst Ramesh Bala, “I don’t think it will affect their career as both have a good body of work. But it is a crucial film indeed after their respective flops.”

Trade analyst Deepak, who is based out of Hyderabad , added, “I don’t think what is an actor’s last film matters anymore. People have changed a lot now. It comes down to the content of the film, the packaging and the overall appeal.”

Vijay Deverakonda recently addressed the poor box office performance of his recent films. Vijay said that every script he chose was ‘terrifc’, but it was the execution of the same which faltered.

The actor told Cinema Express, “I know people won’t accept this statement, but honestly, I believe every script that I’ve chosen was terrific. It was the execution that didn’t go as planned. For instance, an inside joke between friends wouldn’t translate well to others if the delivery and timing weren’t on point. That’s exactly what happened with films like Liger, NOTA, and even Dear Comrade.”

Kushi marks the first collaboration of Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. Talking about his Kushi co-star Samantha during a Q&A session, Vijay said, "Samantha is intelligent. When Shiva and I discuss the movie, she contributes great ideas. We share many similarities. We come from middle-class families, so we have similar perspectives on money and life. Additionally, we both have a passion for history. Samantha is religious, and I have questions about spirituality. Working with Samantha was a delight."

Following the disappointing outcome of "Liger," Vijay Deverakonda was in need of a film that could bring him joy and relief. He believed that "Kushi," a romantic drama, could be the one to achieve this. Has the film lived up to his expectations?

Story: New BSNL recruit Vilpav (Vijay Deverakonda) falls in love with Aradhya (Samantha), an IT engineer who came to Kashmir with her colleagues. They fall in love and quickly decide to tie the knot.

However, Viplav's (Sachin Khedekar) atheist father and Aradhya's (Murali Sharma) religious preacher father play spoilsport.

Aradhya's dad thinks Viplav and his dad need to do an homam to protect themselves from astrological doshas, but Viplav's dad is an atheist and doesn't buy it.

Viplav and Aradhya decide to run away and tie the knot. How peaceful or troubled will their married life be?

Artistes’ Performances: After the disappointment of "Liger," Vijay Deverakonda feels right at home in his role as the boy next door, Viplav. In this regard, he excels, being the film's primary strength. Vijay Deverakonda harks back to his "Geetha Govindam" days by avoiding the typical mass and action sequences, except for a small fight and a chase sequence.

Samantha appears decent in her "Begum" persona and her performance is poised and subtle. She looks at her best in this film when compared to her recent films. She also did a couple of lip locks.

The first half of the film features the comedy talents of Vennela Kishore, while the second half showcases those of Rahul Ramakrishna.

Murali Sharma fits well into his role as Pravachanakartha, and Sachin Khedekar is right on the mark as an atheist.

Lakshmi plays Samantha's grandmother, and Rohini and Jayaram contribute significantly to the film's emotional core.

Technical Excellence: The musical score is the film's strongest aspect. Hesham Abdul Wahab in his Telugu debut brings out a slew of excellent tracks that have been topping the charts. Visually, the songs are just as enjoyable as it is audibly.

Murali's cinematography is a plus because he creates visually striking shots. The photography in Kashmir is very aesthetically pleasing.

The editing is a big problem. The film drags on for far too long, and there are numerous boring scenes in the second half that could be cut without affecting the story.

Analysis Apart from "Arjun Reddy," Vijay Deverakonda's likable portrayal as the boy next door in films like "Pelli Choopulu" and "Geetha Govandam" has endeared him to both youngsters and family audiences.

Following the disappointment of "Liger," he recognized his strengths and opted for "Kushi," a film that takes him back to his roots. Shiva Nirvana has crafted a story loosely inspired by Mani Rathnam’s "Sakhi," but he introduces a new conflict: atheism versus religion.

Similar to “Sakhi,” we witness an extensive depiction of the love between the hero and heroine. We also observe the challenges faced by this couple after marriage, mirroring elements of “Sakhi.”

The first half of the film, set against the backdrop of Kashmir, is quite boring. In addition, the film loses its momentum after the hero and heroine tie the knot.

The director introduces a metropolitan fight sequence, a protracted exploration of infertility issues, a song about marital life ("pellam"), and more during this phase.

Unfortunately, this entire stretch consumes runtime without significantly contributing to the narrative. Just as the film begins to lose its grip, Shiva Nirvana revitalizes it with an episode set in Kerala.

From this point onward, "Kushi" manages to captivate the audience while evoking emotions. This final emotional episode rescues the movie, making it a decent watch.

The film's strengths lie in its vibrant settings, Vijay Deverakonda’s charismatic presence, Samantha's portrayal as the wife and the songs. However, its drawbacks include predictability, uneven storytelling, and a lack of strong conflict points.

There is a scene in the film that discusses the protagonist's masturbation to collect his semen for testing at a hospital. Heroine asks the hero whom he imagined while collecting, to which he replies that he imagined Kate Winslet from 'Titanic.' Is this necessary in a film that targets a family audience? The only difference is that this particular scene is only included for the USA audience, as it was removed in the Indian version.

However, “Kushi” offers an engaging viewing experience, especially for its family-oriented sequences and entertainment value, despite some issues.

Bottom line: Engaging But Not Entertaining

Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha paired up for a romantic drama Kushi in Siva Nirvana’s direction. All three of them are waiting for Kushi to become a success given their respective previous films did not fare well at the box office.

The songs turned chartbusters and the trailer appeared to be having romantic and fun moments along with the needed emotions. The movie Kushi is releasing today in theaters and it has to be seen how well the chemistry of Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha worked. And here is the review from one of the US Premieres.

What Is It About?

A BSNL employee Viplav (Vijay Deverakonda) falls in love with Aradhya (Samantha) in Kashmir and she too loves him. They realize later that their marriage is almost impossible because Viplav is the son of a popular atheist Lenin Sathyam (Sachin Khedkar) and Aradhya is the daughter of his arch rival popular Pravachanakartha Chadarangam Srinivasa Rao (Murli Sharma). How Viplav and Aaradhya get married and what happens in their married life is all about Kushi.

Performances

Samantha performed really well and she excelled in a few scenes reminding us of her performances from her first films. Vijay Deverakonda too did well in Kushi. Vijay’s performance, looks and role remind his Geetha Govindam many a time. The chemistry between Vijay and Samantha worked big although the story has it own flaws. Murli Sharma and Sachin Khedkar did their part, while Rohini and Jayaram looked routine. Veteran actress Lakshmi, Sharanya Pradeep, Shatru did fine in their given roles. Rahul Ramakrishna and Vennela Kishore tried their best but the comedy worked only in parts.

Technicalities

Kushi has rich visuals and the cinematography is extraordinary. The production values are really good. Except for the party song, all the melodies and the pathos song are soothing. The Kashmir part in the first half has got good frames all over. The background music is good. Apart from the performances, the overall plot of Kushi has more than one topic that fails to establish a proper connection with each other. The dialogues are fine.

Ineffective Conflict Lack of emotional depth Over-the-top scenes

We have some cult movies like Sakhi with the eloped couples getting married and later facing the struggle of compatibility in married life. Kushi deals with a similar plot but with additional elements like belief in god included within.

The first half has mostly a breezy romance in Kashmir. Though the scenic visuals and songs enthrall us in the first half, the story moves at a snail’s pace keeping us waiting until the actual plot is revealed before the interval. The comedy of Vennela Kishore worked in parts.

While the first half is only about Viplav and Aradhya, the second half is a complete gear shift to family and emotional drama. Again, the story runs at a slow pace with a good number of missing logics, the emotions and comedy becomes the saviors working in parts. One particular scene of Vijay Deverakonda’s Arjun Reddy reference brings out laughs. Some prolonged comedy episodes in the second half manage to entertain the audience.

Kushi has a good share of narrative going flat and pale. Due to the lengthy second half the graph took a fall. The climax episodes with Sachin Khedkar and a few dialogues by Murli Sharma are impressive and they helped it pick up. Many emotional scenes worked well only due to the actors’ performances but the lack of depth in the scenes stuck out like a sore thumb.

The ego war between the fathers of the lead couple appears to be not justified by the misunderstandings they had. Also, the impact of another couple revealing their past is not shown well.

Overall, Kushi is a mixed plot of topics like marriage, misunderstandings, and parents’ egos that work only in parts. The songs, picturization, and a few comedy scenes make it a passable entertainer on the whole. Kushi gets decent marks compared to those disasters attacking audiences every week and it has to be seen how it fares at B & C centers.

Bottomline: Music Rocks – Story Has Cracks
