Winners of 9mobile 2022 Essay Competition on the environment announced

Nigeria’s youth-friendly brand, 9mobile, has announced the winners of the maiden edition of the 9mobile essay competition on the Environment. The competition, which was open to senior secondary school students in Abuja, was designed to encourage young people to think critically about environmental issues and raise awareness about environmental protection and sustainability.
The essay competition with the theme: ‘How Is Overpopulation Becoming a Global Pandemic to the Environment?’ received an overwhelming response from participants from over sixty Government Secondary Schools in Abuja, and after careful review and evaluation, the following students emerged as winners: First place: Ukwuoma Uchechukwu Chidera , from Government Secondary School, Dutse. Second place: Chiemeke Emmanuella , Government Secondary School, Kubwa. Third place: Egwu Favour Onyekachi , Government Secondary School, Kurudu.
The Executive Director of Regulatory and Corporate Affairs, 9mobile, Abdulrahman Ado, represented by the PR Lead, 9mobile, Chineze Amanfo , said, “We would like to appreciate all the participants of the competition for their hard work and efforts and congratulate the winners on their outstanding achievements. We were particularly impressed with the quality of the essays we received. We believe that the competition has succeeded in encouraging young people to think critically about environmental issues. We hope that it has inspired them to take action to protect the planet. We also commend the commitment and support from the FCT Education Secretariat, Abuja.”
The Director of Science, Technology, and Vocational Education, Hajiya Ramatu Habu , representing the Director of Science, Technology, and Innovations, said: "We want to commend 9mobile for putting together this essay competition which has not only increased the writing skills and creativity of our students but also enhanced their research potential as they were able to go in-depth sourcing for educational materials to effectively defend their argument on the topic. We hope this competition will inspire other students to explore this topic further and contribute to the ongoing conversation.”
First-place winner Ukwuoma ecstatically responded after the announcement, saying, "I want to thank 9mobile and the FCT Secretariat for giving us this opportunity. I think someday I will impact other people's lives as well. Before this competition, I was not aware of the consequences of overpopulation as a global pandemic, but now I am better enlightened, and I would like to inform others as well”.
The essays were evaluated by a panel of renowned education experts based on originality, clarity of expression, depth of research, and relevance to the competition's theme. The top 10 winners received prizes and rewards and were recognized for their achievements at the 9mobile office in Abuja.

The competition, open to senior secondary school students in Abuja, was designed to encourage young people to think critically about environmental issues and raise awareness about environmental protection and sustainability.
The essay competition with the theme: ‘How is Overpopulation Becoming a Global Pandemic to the Environment?’ received an overwhelming response from participants from over sixty public secondary schools in Abuja, and after careful review and evaluation, Ukwuoma Uchechukwu Chidera, from Government Secondary School, Dutse emerged winner; Chiemeke Emmanuella, Government Secondary School, Kubwa, came second, while Egwu Favour Onyekachi, Government Secondary School, Kurudu came third.
The Executive Director of Regulatory and Corporate Affairs at 9mobile, Abdulrahman Ado, represented by the PR Lead of 9mobile, Chineze Amanfo, commended all the competition participants for their hard work and efforts and congratulated the winners on their outstanding achievements.
He expressed satisfaction with the quality of the essays received, adding, “we believe that the competition has succeeded in encouraging young people to think critically about environmental issues. We hope that it has inspired them to take action to protect the planet. We also commend the commitment and support from the FCT Education Secretariat, Abuja.”

Chidera Ukwuoma Wins Inaugural 9mobile Essay Competition On The Environment
Chidera Ukwuoma has emerged as the overall winner of the inaugural 9mobile essay competition on the environment.
The contest, which was open to government senior secondary school students in Abuja, is designed to encourage young people to think critically about environmental issues and raise awareness about protection and sustainability.
With the theme, ‘How Is Overpopulation Becoming a Global Pandemic to the Environment?’ the competition attracted participation from over 60 schools.
After careful review and evaluation, Chidera Ukwuoma from Government Secondary School, Dutse, emerged first place winner; Emmanuella Chiemeke from Government Secondary School, Kubwa, came second, while Favour Egwu of Government Secondary School, Kurudu, placed third.
In a statement, Executive Director of Regulatory and Corporate Affairs, 9mobile, Abdulrahman Ado, lauded participants for their hard work, while congratulating the winners on their outstanding performance.
Represented by the Public Relations Lead, Chineze Amanfo, the Executive Director stated:
“We believe that the competition has succeeded in encouraging young people to think critically about environmental issues. We hope it has inspired them to take action to protect the planet. We also commend the commitment and support from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Education Secretariat, Abuja.

9Mobiles essay competition storms FCT
Concerned by climate change and its effects on global economies, the mobile communication giant, 9Mobile, has brought to the Federal Capital Territory schools essay competition that will address the adverse effects of climate change and the ways to cushion the change through human and corporate activities.
According to the organisers of the 9Mobile essay competition, the competition will involve 67 to 70 schools in the FCT.
The theme is “How overpopulation becomes a global pandemic to environment.”
In the competition, the judges who have impeccable pedigrees and are experts in fields related to environment, education and grammar, would be looking for relevance of the topic, grammar and clarity of expression in the essay. Organisation of ideas, writing style among others requirements are to be considered.
The organisers said, they are in Abuja to demonstrate their belief in pan-Nigerianness, adding that they had organised similar competition in Lagos and now they are in FCT.
“After FCT, we will go over to Kano then to Enugu, until the six geopolitical zones are covered,” the coordinator said.
He also said they had put measures in place to check parents, teachers or resource persons writing for competitors, and there would three winners, first second runners up and the winner.

9mobile Unveils Essay Competition For Abuja Secondary Schools
Nigeria’s telecom provider and youth-friendly brand, 9mobile, has announced the introduction of an essay competition for senior secondary schools students in the country beginning with Abuja.
The telco announced this at a media conference to kick off the competition’s call for entries.
Speaking on the rationale behind the initiative, the executive irector, Regulatory and Corporate Affairs, 9mobile, Abdulrahman Ado, represented by the PR Lead, 9mobile, Chineze Amanfo reiterated the company’s commitment in contributing and strengthening the education sector in the country.
She said, “At 9mobile, we understand that young people are the bedrock of change, and it is imperative to support them when it comes to cultivating values that promote environmental sustainability. These values will shape their behaviour and help to change society for the better. This year’s essay competition is exclusive to Senior Secondary School students in FCT, Abuja in collaboration with the FCT Education Secretariat.”
“In coming up with this initiative, we have carefully constituted a team of a reputable panel of Judges with impeccable track record and qualifications who have designed judging criteria to evaluate entries such that only the best emerges as overall winner” Amanfo added.
According to Amanfo, the competition, which has as its theme, ‘How is overpopulation becoming a global pandemic to the environment?’ will be focused on the environment and sustainability awareness.

Speaking further on the mode of entry and submission deadline, Amanfo emphasized that entry is free and that the call for entries will last for two weeks to enable students to submit their entries. The submission deadline will be September 22, 2022, and judging will commence thereafter.
The Director of Admin and Finance, Education Secretariat, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Mallam Leramoh Abdulrazaq, on behalf of the Secretary for Education, Hon. Sani Dahir El-katuzu, lauded 9mobile for the well-thought-out initiative and expressed the willingness to collaborate and provide the necessary support to ensure the success of the essay competition in FCT, Abuja.
A member of the panels of judges, Johnson Abbaly who spoke on behalf of the other judges said only one entry per school will be accepted, noting that all entries will be sent online to [email protected] and the top 10 entries will be shortlisted.

This initiative aims to raise students’ awareness of environmental issues and sustainability.
The competition was intended to inspire young minds to investigate and articulate their opinions on various environmental challenges. After a thorough selection procedure, the winners of the competition have been revealed, showcasing the extraordinary talent and dedication of these young individuals to protecting our planet.

Telecoms provider, 9mobile, has partnered with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Education Secretariat to host an essay competition for senior secondary schools students nationwide, beginning with Abuja. The firm, which announced call for entries at a virtual media conference, said it is riding on United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organiation’s (UNESCO) yearly International Literacy Day. On the rationale behind the initiative, Executive Director, Regulatory and Corporate Affairs, 9mobile, Abdulrahman Ado, reiterated the company’s commitment in strengthening the nation’s education sector. Essay competition is a platform for developing students’ intellectual and writing abilities in Nigeria. It is also organized to harness youths’ energy, creativity, and initiative to promote a culture of peace and sustainable development.

Knox County students honored for winning statewide contest
K NOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett honored two Knox County students for winning the statewide 2023 civics essay contest.
The contest was open to public, private, charter or homeschoolers in Grades K through 12. Two essays from each school and each grade level were submitted featuring the theme ‘Why Civility Matters.’
“Congratulations to Jasmine Smith and Nancy Claire Johnson on their first and third-place finishes in the 2023 Civics Essay Contest,” said Secretary Hargett. “They demonstrate the future of our great state is bright.”
Smith, a student from Knoxville Montessori School, placed first in the sixth to eighth grade category. Johnson, a student from Farragut Intermediate School, placed third in the third through fifth grade category.
The students visited the state capitol on March 21 to receive their awards. Both also earned TNStars 529 College Savings Program scholarships.
