Top 7 Homework Planner Apps for Students

Whether you are attending classes, completing your assignments, studying for a quiz, project work, extra-curricular activities, or squeezing some time for friends and family. You’d agree that organizing and planning goes a long way. That’s why a homework organizer or a homework planner app can be a lifesaver to keep track of all your assignments, tests, submission deadlines, and exams. I did the research and shortlisted the perfect homework planner apps for Android and iOS. Let’s check those out.

Homework Planner Apps for Students

1. student planner- homework agenda & notes.

The first app on the list is a simple homework and notes management app. It keeps track of homework, assignments, projects, and to-do lists. The layout is minimal, all the tasks are neatly organized with a colored bookmark for easy identification. You can mark a task complete and remove it from the pending list.

Courses can be added easily and color-coded as well. The calendar shows any upcoming deadlines so you can prioritize accordingly. The tasks have a progress bar that you can adjust as you make progress which enables you to get a quick summary without actually opening every task.

You can also break your assignments in small chunks as subtasks that would make finishing a task much easier and the progress bar will fill automatically. It also allows you to attach media files to your assignments or projects for easy access to the important information in one place.

homework planner apps- agenda

  • Progress bar
  • Deadline Reminders
  • Calendar View
  • No option to sync data to the cloud

Student Planner is a great app for all the students, it has all the necessary features like Deadline reminders, subtasks, progress bar, color-coded tasks, and courses. It can significantly increase your productivity when used regularly. You can get this app for free in the Play Store.

Install Student Planner- Homework Agenda ( Android )

2. Student Planner

Student Planner is another fast and simple homework management app which is wrapped by a beautiful and intuitive material designed UI. What Student Planner adds to the table is the inclusion of a schedule or time table which you can use to either store your class schedule or it might even be a study schedule for your exams.

You first start by adding your subject and the schedule then you can add an assignment or set a reminder. The due assignments are arranged as separate cards and can be swiped away once done with.

homework planner apps- Student Planner Android

  •  Simple and easy to get started with
  •  Fast and small in size
  •  Beautiful Minimal UI
  •  Option for Schedule
  • No sync/backup
  • Timetable implementation not perfect

I would recommend this app to anyone who is looking for a simple homework management app with timetable support and a minimal UI.

Install Student Planner ( Android )

Egenda is simple. Open the app, add all the classes or subjects to the app, and once that is set up, you have the option of adding a new Homework, Quiz, Project, or Test and choose the respective subject deadlines. The app also arranges the due work in cards that can be swiped away when done. But what I love the most about this app is that the fact it allows you to go subject-wise and view all your upcoming tests, projects, or pending assignments which is a huge convenience for planning your schedule ahead of time instead of the previous day.

Unfortunately, the app doesn’t have a timetable option, but in its latest update, it added a  Calendar View  where you can see your whole month at a glance with your assignments, tests, and projects.

homework planner apps- Egenda Android

  •  Subject-wise sorting
  •  Calendar View
  • No timetable support

Egenda provides some great tools for Homework and Test planning and I am sure anyone would find them extremely convenient and useful. But keeping its single con in mind, go for this app if you are not too keen on having a schedule or timetable.

Install  Egenda  ( Android  |  iOS )

4. ChalkBoard

The next app on our list is ChalkBoard, which I found out to be a pretty smart homework planner app. Chalkboard strikes a perfect balance between simplicity and features.

Although the setup process is a little longer than the previous three apps, as you have to feed meticulous details about the classes, teacher, and schedule. It is worth the effort.

On the home screen, you are shown upcoming classes, events tab, and upcoming tests. ChalkBoard fetches the dates for every subject from the Timetable for your future classes. Little features like these make the app stand out from the rest and give an overall great experience. You can also view classes and assignments subject wise.

homework planner apps- ChalkBoard Android

  • Proper Timetable
  • Ability to add teachers for subjects
  • View tomorrow’s classes as well as assignments/tests/quizzes
  • Smart features
  • Little longer to set up
  • No calendar view

If you are looking for a homework planner as well as a school planner, Chalkboard is the app as it strikes a great ground with almost all the features one might need while not being too bulky.

Install ChalkBoard ( Android )

5. School Planner

School Planner is a full-fledged planning application designed for students to manage their career as a student. Along with your homework and timetables, School Planner offers you to keep track of your grades and attendance, add contacts for teachers, add recorded lectures, and even multiple planners.

The app supports backing up of all your data via Google Drive, Calendar View along with a weekly report, attaching snapshots to your assignment reminders, student accounts from ClassViva, and a lot more. In spite of so many features, the app doesn’t feel slow at all and delivers a powerful performance with its beautiful design.

homework planner apps- School Planner Android

  • Full-fledged student companion
  • Feature-packed and free
  • Supports sync and backup
  • Widget Support
  • Tedious setup procedure
  • Big in size
  • Complex, not so smooth learning curve

While it is not for someone who is looking for a fast and easy way into homework management, School Planner is a great student companion app and serious students will surely get the most out of hit.

Install School Planner ( Android )

6. My Study Life

My Study Life comes with its own web app and syncs with the Android app, essentially making your data accessible from any device as long as it has a browser.

It implements a goal-centric circular tracker that shows your progress. The Calendar view combines your timetable, deadlines, and shows all your classes and assignments, projects in a single place.

homework planner apps- My Study Life Android

  • Refreshingly new UI
  • Access from anywhere through its web app
  • Sync and Backup
  • Lengthy setup process

If you study from your computer or laptop, My Study Life makes it easy to access your homework planner on your phone from your computer, while not compromising on features and being completely free. What more can you ask for?

Install My Study Life ( Android  |  iOS )

7. iStudiez Pro

Like School Planner, iStudiez Pro includes grading and subject wise organization of tasks. iStudiez Pro takes it further with the integration of Google Calendar that allows you to directly get all your holidays, exam schedule, routine from Google Calendar itself.

It also offers separate apps on all platforms including iOS, Mac, and Windows. All the apps sync seamlessly between themselves, so studying on your computer consulting your planner won’t be an issue.

That means you don't need to download a Pomodoro timer app for such. But if you do, here are the best Pomodoro timer apps .

This app rewards you with earnings in the form of imaginary cash as you complete tasks. You don't actually receive any of these earnings in real life, but it's a good incentive to keep you moving forward.

4 homework apps that are helpful for middle schoolers

When tweens hit middle school, completing homework assignments and keeping work organized becomes more challenging. Instead of one main teacher, middle schoolers now have multiple teachers with different expectations. With busy after-school schedules, sixth, seventh, and eighth graders may not be sitting down to complete homework or study for upcoming tests until later in the evening. While some middle schools offer homework clubs at the conclusion of the school day, what happens when students need help after hours and parents and caregivers aren’t up on the subject matter?

  • Yup — Math Tutoring

Quizlet: Learn with Flashcards

Helpful homework organizational apps for middle school.

Sure, there’s Google, but unfortunately, the popular search engine isn’t always the answer, and many teachers frown on the use of Wikipedia. Thankfully, there are middle school homework apps available to help kids untangle the math questions they’re stuck on or uncover the symbolism in a book they’re reading . Here are four of the best homework apps for middle school students to put on the back-to-school list and download.

Yup — Math Tutoring

Once kids start middle school, most parents are out as far as providing help with math homework. While Yup – Math is not free, the app can be an asset during the school year because math is a trouble spot area for many middle schoolers. Through the Yup — Math app, teachers are available for homework assistance 24/7 and can help tweens and teens with geometry, algebra, and any other mathematical questions. Students can upload a photograph of a particular problem and one of the teachers will provide assistance. Yup — Math offers a free two-week trial and does offer various pricing plans.

For homework problems for multiple subjects including science, history, math, and literature, Google’s Socratic is ideal. If students are stuck on certain questions, they can upload an image and Socratic will provide the information to help answer it. Users can find videos, step-by-step directions, and study guides to help answer and understand the homework problems they’re having an issue with. Socratic is free to download.

Studying for tests in multiple classes can be problematic for middle school students. Quizlet is used by many teachers in class to help students master certain concepts and necessary vocabulary. The free app is also available for download outside of school and is a great study tool. Users can create their own flashcards for an upcoming test or quiz. The app offers study sets in addition to making your own flashcard options. Quizlet is extremely useful for mastering foreign language vocabulary and preparing for vocabulary tests in Language Arts and English classes.

Ask middle school students what homework assignments are the most problematic, and math usually comes up. Math becomes difficult for many students in middle school. Instead of struggling with those one or two problems kids just can’t solve on their homework, try Photomath. The app is free to download and does include in-app purchases. Photomath includes a multi-functional scientific calculator and step-by-step directions for solving problems. Multiple explanations allow kids to find the problem-solving solution that works best for them. Like Yup – Math, users can upload a picture of the problem. If you want step-by-step directions for specific homework problems, the premium plan is necessary. For non-subscribers, the problem will still be solved, but not with as much explanation.  Photomath Plus is an upgrade for this app and requires a fee.

Moving from elementary school to middle school can be an organizational nightmare for some students. Keeping multiple classes, assignments, due dates, and upcoming tests and quizzes organized can be a trouble spot. Organizational issues often carry over into the classroom. Late assignments, lost homework, and forgetting to study for tests and quizzes impacts grades. Since middle schoolers are often tied to their smartphones, they will be more apt to utilize a digital planner as opposed to the traditional notebook planners. If your middle schooler has difficulty staying organized, these are helpful apps for keeping students on target in their different classes.

Making the transition from elementary school to middle school is a major milestone for tweens. The stepping stone to high school is a pivotal one where sixth, seventh, and eighth-graders learn how to navigate managing multiple courses. As subjects become more difficult, homework questions will pop up. Homework apps designed to help middle and high school students find solutions to difficult problems and study for tests and quizzes should be on the school list.

Math is especially problematic for many students. So, it’s a good idea to have Yup — Math and Photomath in the wheelhouse before homework issues arise. Quizlet is a helpful option to assist kids in studying for tests. Apps are also available to help students keep their homework, long-term assignments, and test dates organized. If your tween had difficulty staying organized in elementary school, installing a homework organizing app prior to the start of classes in middle school is prudent. Homework can be challenging for middle schoolers and utilizing homework apps are a practical way to help tweens complete assignments while also gaining an understanding of the concepts. These homework apps don’t just provide answers. The apps provide users with explanations as well and most are free to download.

Your baby's first year is filled with firsts. There's baby's first smile, first word, and of course, first steps. The firsts don't stop there, either. A baby girl's first haircut may not be considered a milestone, but it is a special moment. It's one of those treasured times you'll think back on fondly.

Your baby girl's first haircut is one of many precious firsts you'll experience as a parent. Deciding when to get a haircut for your little one can also be a source of anxiety. Should you cut your baby's hair or have a professional do it? If your little girl is a bundle of curls, will they grow back if you cut them? Another big question is how to style your baby's hair. Do you let it grow long?

At-home birthday parties never really went out of style. Many parents opted for venue celebrations for their kiddos because they can be less stressful. Perhaps most parents steer clear of hosting a birthday party for kids at the house because of all the chaos that ensues. Let's not mention the after-party mess that you're responsible for cleaning when all the kids leave.

While there are perks to venue parties, it turns out that throwing a party for your child at home doesn't have to ramp up the anxiety. Birthday parties at home can be a load of fun and be more budget-friendly than a venue party. Home parties are easier to plan and execute than you think, especially for 5-year-olds.

If you thought traveling with kids was stressful, try sending them off on a flight alone. For many parents, it's necessary to send their child on a flight by themselves, whether it's for a vacation, to visit a parent who lives far away, or for any number of reasons. If you find yourself in a position where your child may need to travel without you, you may ask yourself, "How old do you have to be to fly alone?" All airlines have their own rules and regulations regarding unaccompanied minors, so parents or caregivers must be aware that there isn't one specific set of rules that applies to all airlines. Before booking any trip, parents need to ensure they know the airline's policy regarding how old they have to be to fly alone and be aware that there are often extra fees that apply when a child flies without an adult.

When can children fly alone? Typically, airlines have unaccompanied minor policies in place for children between the ages of 5 and 14 years old, which means children under 5 are not allowed to fly solo, regardless of whether they're traveling with an older unaccompanied minor or not.

Outer covers are made from polypropylene, which is 100% recyclable and highly valued in the recycling process, along with the binding.

In most places, your planner can be dropped into your household recycling. We recommend removing the spiral binding first before recycling. To remove the plastic coils, simply snip off one end and pull out from the other!

Middle and high school planning printables

Now I don’t know about you, but despite my best intentions, I seem to always forget something that has already been purchased, curriculum ideas for upcoming years, or what may already be on our bookshelves to use for our younger children. Sticky notes and random sheets of paper just don’t cut it, so the Middle and High School Planner pages were put together to make life a little easier for myself overall. (And let’s face it, these are a lot prettier than the random sheets of notebook paper that were accumulating in my binder).

I’m printing off a copy for each of our children and it gives me a central location to jot down notes, ideas, and what we’re doing as we go along. Overall, there are sixteen pages in the Middle and High School Planner pages (plus one that you don’t have to print at the end), and two different versions – a blue/green color-themed set and a rainbow color-themed set. Laurianna saw me working on them and said she thought hers should have more color, so I had to readjust them. (grins)

If you’d like to see what we’ve been planning for homeschool high school so far, don’t miss our Homeschool High School Plan post that was shared earlier. In addition to walking through our overall plans I share how overwhelmed I was to begin with and some tips on laying the foundation for the upcoming years. There is also a link to a simple overview printable that you may prefer to this more in-depth one.

A Quick Look & Overview Planning

Overview planning pages for middle and high school

Use the first two pages to plan out subjects and curriculum for each year. In the left side column there is room to track the subjects and then plan out what you will use from 6th grade through 12th grade. Be sure to keep track of what you already have on hand – and don’t need to purchase!

High School Outline, Requirements, and Schedules

high school daily schedule and requirements

This section allows you to plug in all the information that your state may require for graduation, AP placement, decide your grading scale, and brainstorm elective ideas for your child. There is also a sheet that can be printed off yearly to create a weekly schedule for your child.

Tracking High School Credits

credit and class tracking for high school

Keep track of the credits your child is earning, books read, extra curricular activities and other important information you might need for high school transcripts. There are five pages for this section: one for early credits (prior to 9th grade if your state allows it) and four pages, one for each year of high school.

Course Descriptions

Early and high school course description tracking

This section allows you write a short course description of each class that your child takes for credit (may come in handy for college admission later).

Thank you so much for this!! I was just looking last night for something exactly like this – to take place of my notebook scribblings! : )

yes, thank you! I have been compiling info into a notebook and this will help as well. =) Have you checked out the freebies/site by Lee Binz:

Honestly, this whole high school thing is tricky! Thanks again!

High school brought up all those feelings of inadequacy in me – so didn’t see that coming! It is such a new ballgame, but I am so thankful to have friends walking along with me. :) It definitely helps to have encouragement and support!

Thank You, these will help so much!

Enjoy! Filling out ours for McKenna this weekend. :)

Sara – I just uploaded the corrected copy. I’m sorry!! Thanks so much for letting me know. :)

Thank you so much for these forms. They are well thought out. For a cost is it possible to offer an editable version? I would like my final draft to be neater than my chicken scratch. Have you come up with a transcript form, not that you have to offer, just checking to see if you tackled that beast yet.

The Best Planners for Students {for the 2023-2024 School Year!}

by Sharon Rowley Leave a Comment

If we want our kids to be organized in school, it is essential that they have a system in place for keeping track of assignments, upcoming tests, and quizzes as well as anything with a deadline. Using the right student planner makes this process simple- and helps your child to juggle their school work and social life without feeling overwhelmed. These are the 10 best planners for students for the 2023-2024 school year!

Quick Links to the Info in This Post!

Top Picks for the Best Planners for Students:

What type of planner will work best for your student, the best planner for elementary school students:, best planner for middle and high school students:, best planners for college students- dated, best planner for college students- undated, the best bullet journal for college students, the best planner app for students, looking for the best family calendars, planners, & to-do lists.

The first thing to take into consideration when purchasing a student planner- is the grade level of student who will be using it. Some planners are designed specifically with elementary school-aged kids in mind, while others are more appropriate for middle school, high school, or college students.

For elementary schoolers, you want a simple planner that gives them a defined place to record assignments for each main subject area.

But when we are shopping for students in middle or high school, or in college, there are three main types of planners that I recommend:

  • Dated planners – The monthly and weekly page layouts are already labeled- and in some planners, you'll find prompts or titled sections to get you to think and reflect on your goals for the coming year.
  • Undated planners – You can pick up one of these planners any time and just get started because all of the monthly and weekly sections are undated. There are still places to write reflections and goals, but they are more open-ended and often appear at the beginning or the end of the planner.
  • Bullet Journals – These are completely unstructured notebooks that allow you to design how you would like to track notes and assignments and organize and plan for the future. Often a bullet journal is just a blank notebook with dotted grids, or sometimes they are lined.

Scroll through the list of my favorite planners of each type below- where I highlight the best features of each one!

My kids used this Global Datebook Elementary School Planner This is an affiliate link: MomOf6 earns a commission if you purchase, at no additional cost to you. for years. They loved the list-style format of the planner pages- with sections for each of the four main subject areas in school (math, science, social studies, and language arts) with plenty of additional space for other subject areas if needed.

If your kids would prefer a “block style” layout rather than the list layout above- this version of the Global Datebooks planner This is an affiliate link: MomOf6 earns a commission if you purchase, at no additional cost to you. uses a block layout.

I appreciated the vinyl cover and spiral binding which made it easy for kids to fold over the cover to work on a particular day. This planner comes with a bookmark/ruler that clips into the spiral binding, marking their place in the planner.

Beyond just daily information, this planner also includes resource pages by subject area- multiplication tables, measuring equivalencies, common grammar explanations, and so forth which are pretty helpful. (size 8.5″ x11″)

We love the separate sections for each day that outline: Things to remember/ Quizzes, exams, papers, projects / Assignments- making it easy for kids to see what is the most important thing to tackle at homework time.

There's room to note activities and a place to keep a running to-do list for the week. And I love that you can track the number of weeks until… winter break, spring break, last day of school? What kid doesn't love a countdown? (A separate page marker is available).

You can track habits that you'd like to cultivate, incorporate gratitude and affirmation techniques, create a vision board and more!

best bullet journal for students

Bullet journaling has become very popular in the last few years- because it provides the perfect freestyle tool to keep your academic calendar, plan your week, create lists, as well as to write down thoughts, track your progress, and reflect on your life.

This beautiful hardcover notebook has dotted pages, it lays flat when in use- but what sets this bullet journal apart is its pre-formatted table of contents section.

best planner app for students

In today's tech-connected world, some students may prefer to forgo the paper planner route, and instead use an app for tracking assignments and homework. The MyHomework App is the perfect app for that!

15 Student Planners That Will Make This Year Their Most Productive One Yet

Screen-free planning ahead.

student planners

If you buy something from the links on this page, we may earn a commission. Why Trust Us?

Getting on board with using a planner might be quite the task, as most of us are used to clicking and tapping our notes into digital devices, like iPads and smartphones . Luckily for you, we've rounded up the best academic planners to transform even the most tech-obsessed person into a planner pro. From agendas designed to optimize your academic life to options that keep track of busy school and extracurricular schedules, these planners will help start the school year off right.

Planner 2023-2024

Planner 2023-2024

This student planner combines old-school sophistication with modern convenience. The cover design is classically minimal, with an elastic-band closure and pen holder at the spine to keep everything neatly together.

The interior page layout is similarly straightforward, offering weekly and monthly page views with plenty of lined and blank space to write, cross out, and rewrite. The design is unobtrusive, allowing for students to mold it to fit their needs. It's easy to follow with enough direction to keep students on-task, and it's durable enough that if it gets thrown around — which it definitely will — it won't fall apart partway through the year. Overall, the combination of style, durability, and price makes this student planner our number-one pick.

2023-2024 Academic Planner + Study App

2023-2024 Academic Planner + Study App

A brilliantly laid out study app comes with the Five Star planner. It's one more way for kids to integrate their digital and analog planning and studying. It's a simple plan with an easy layout to follow, and teens love it. It has daily, weekly, and monthly sections with more than enough room for everything.

Dated Bilingual Middle High School Student Planner

Dated Bilingual Middle High School Student Planner

Bilingual English and Spanish planners are wonderful for really any child in the U.S. but especially good for Spanish speakers and Spanish learners. The planner has plenty of guidance as to what to put where and plenty of space in which to do it. It's also a great option for middle school students!

2023-2024 Academic Planner

2023-2024 Academic Planner

At-a-Glance planners are favorites of teachers I spoke with because they aren't distracting, but they're also very guided and have plenty of room. Even if your child decides to use markers in it, the pages don't bleed like some thinner-papered planners. These lay flat, allowing the student to look at everything at a glance.

Student Planner 2023-2024

Student Planner 2023-2024

A big part of why this one will be so popular is because of the design on the outside — celestial images are hot right now. But what's inside is even more important, and you'll find a well-laid out planer with 380 stickers, goal areas, weekly, daily, and monthly spaces ready to be filled out.

2023-2024 Monthly Planner

2023-2024 Monthly Planner

If you need to motivate your student, gifting them a package like this is a wonderful way to do it. It has everything a kid could want for planning, pens, stickers, tabs, and a design that's alluring even for the planner-shy.

Again, it has weekly, daily, and monthly spaces with great paper and lines that aren't too close together.

2023-24 Monthly & Weekly Academic Planner Kit

2023-24 Monthly & Weekly Academic Planner Kit

There's so much to love about this extremely durable zippered planner starting with the fact that it's not just an undated planner — it's an entire planner system.

Useful school supplies like fine-liner pens, sticky notes, tabs, note stickers, and highlighters are all included. That means that you can color-code by program or activity, highlight deadlines, coordinate your needs, and get everything put down exactly when you need to begin because you are the one filling in the date.

2023-2024 Academic Year Weekly and Monthly Planner

2023-2024 Academic Year Weekly and Monthly Planner

It also provides more than enough space for writing down due dates and monthly appointments, and it lays everything out neatly on a clean-lined spread.

What we love about this one is that it's a smaller size, perfect for the front pocket of a backpack. There's even a section for jotting down yearly goals for the academic year to stay on track through the semesters.

The Jag Academic Planner

Undated planners are gaining popularity, and this one keeps track of way more than just your day-to-day schedule.

The top-rated Panda Planner includes daily, weekly, and monthly pages, all designed with the goal-oriented user in mind. It helps break big goals into smaller tasks and lets users get as granular as they'd like with long-term planning. This means that you can plan their semester by the week, month, or the whole chunk.

The best part is that the cloud-integrated planner is totally reusable, as users can jot down tasks and notes with the smudge-proof pen, scan them with the compatible app, and erase the notes with the included cloth. It'll likely be the only planner-and-notebook combo that you'll ever need.

With weekly practices designed to inspire and encourage self-care, you will find this planner to be incredibly useful. Its lined pages are the perfect place to jot down notes, how you're feeling, or your progress and goals for that month. The weekly and monthly view allows you to write down detailed daily plans and broader monthly events.

The color-coded sections make finding a specific month quick and easy. You can design their planner to look as trendy as you want with the chic included sticker pack.

What to Consider

black line break

Choosing the right planner for the right person is no small task, especially for college students dealing with the beginning of their life as an adult. There's a lot to jot down when you consider work and school schedules that include not only term-long projects but also goals for the future, grade calculations, and important notes about prerequisites and scheduling. Planners are pretty individual things, so check in with your kid about their preferred style. My own 15-year-old son prefers to have a larger planner with more room because he's visually inclined in that way, but my 12-year-old daughter is just the opposite. Her planner is precise, but notebooks are for figuring things out.

A good student planner should have space not only for assignments but also for schedules, notes, and important email addresses and numbers, such as the At a Glance planner . It's also a good idea to give yourself the option of having multiple views of the dates — a month at a glance, a week, and a daily breakdown. It's not 100% necessary, but it is extremely useful. You also want your student planner to be durable, just like the Feela planner system , because planners get pretty beaten up over time. Think about it — they're thrown in backpacks , tossed into desk drawers, and even jammed into lockers, so they need to stand up to some knocking around. Flimsy is fine for something that stays at home but not for an academic planner that needs to travel.

Printable Student Planner for Elementary & Middle School Students

Printable Student Planner for Elementary & Middle School Students

Where has the summer even gone , y’all? I feel like it just started, but here I am back-to-school shopping and prepping for the new school year. One of my goals this year is to really stay on top of the kids’ school activities and homework. And in order to do that, I need the kids to be involved and engaged. Which is where this printable student planner comes in.

Printable Student Planner CarrieElle.com

Printable School Planner

Sometimes it feels like I’m pulling teeth when I try to pin my kids down on what homework is due, or even what day they need to return their library books. It drives me nuts! So with that in mind, I created a planner and a planning system that is functional, easy to use, and fun to write in ( maybe that will get my kids excited about homework? Maybe?! ).

Here’s what you need to make your own student planner:

Printable Student Planner

  • Student Planner digital files (see bottom of this post to download)
  • (optional) Cardstock for the cover and binder strip
  • Post-it® Flags and Tabs
  • 3-ring binder
  • (optional) Post-it® Filing Tabs to create monthly dividers

Printable Student Planner

I found everything I needed at Walmart, which is where we do most of our back-to-school shopping. You can find the Post-it Flags and Tabs in the back-to-school section at your local Walmart (you’ll recognize it by all the yellow boxes!).

Post-it has been a staple in my house since I was a child, and I am always finding new ways to incorporate their fun products into my daily life.

Here’s how to print your own student planner:

Download the files by clicking on the black and white download button at the bottom of this post. You’ll have have three files to download – the Cover and Binder Strips, the About Me page, and the planner pages.

Printable Student Planner

The cover and binder strips look best on card stock, but regular paper is fine, too!

To print the planning pages, which as you’ll see are designed to print on the front and the back of your page, you have two options:

  • If you have duplex printing, print the file on the “duplex printing” setting to print front and back. Or, if your printer is a little wonky like mine and likes to eat the pages when you use the duplex feature, try this:
  •  Print all odd pages. Return paper to printer. Print all even pages in reverse order (these are all options you’ll have in your printer settings).

Printable Student Planner

I recommend printing one month at a time (or maybe a few at a time, rather than printing 10 copies of the file at once…if that makes sense) to reduce printer mishaps (occasionally mine will skip a page, or pull two page through, and that messes it all up).

Here’s how to use your printable student planner with the Post-it Flag system I’ve created:

Printable Student Planner

Monthly tabs, like the ones I’ve made here using Post-it Filing Tabs, are helpful, but optional. You can easily find the page you need just by marking it with a Post-it Flag.

Printable Student Planner

I created a key for our Post-it Flags that the kids can easily follow. My plan is to have them place the flags where they need to be. I can easily grab their notebook and open to today’s page, or see when something is due, or know when I need to send the kids money (for lunches or field trips or fundraisers) just by flipping to the page that is flagged with the appropriate color.

Printable Student Planner

You can get the printable back-to-school stickers you see pictured above here .

Printable Student Planner

SO EASY. Please, darling spawn, help a mother out and actually do this for me.

Printable Student Planner

I reeally love how this puts the responsibility in their hands. And also, it’s fun…they love playing with these Post-it Flags (which you can reuse and move around…they’re repositionable!).

Printable Student Planner

At the back of the notebook I’ve included a folder. The kids will put their worksheets and in-progress homework assignments here.

Download your own copy of the student planner below.

Printable Student Planner

I hope you guys love this student planner and the planning system my kids and I are going to use this year to keep us all on the same page. I’m super excited about it, and I hope you are too!

I love the idea of creating a key with the tabs! #client

My kids are excited about it…and I feel like it gives them some ownership!

Hi, thanks for an interesting and very helpful post. Now the first place has come to the Internet, technology, online services that will allow you to contact for study and self-development, so it is also important to have useful resources for reviewing education. I recommend you study a terrible problem, challenge for society as a whole – alcoholism, because it entails extremely bad consequences, and sometimes even disastrous ones,  look at this and study right now a selection of various analytical materials about alcoholism created by professionals in this things, read and learn more new and important things, maybe this will help you in the future save someone’s life.

I have thought so many times of entering the blogging world as I love reading them. I think I finally have the courage to give it a try. Thank you so much for all of the ideas!

I reeally love how this puts the responsibility in their hands. And also, it’s fun…they love playing with these Post-it Flags (which you can reuse and move around…they’re repositionable!).

Q: “What’s the Best Planner for a Student with ADHD and Dysgraphia?”

The best planner is one that works with your child’s unique adhd brain and learning style. here’s why paper helps many students, and alternatives to accommodate writing challenges..

Leslie Josel

Q: “I have trouble pushing a paper calendar or planner for my son, who has dysgraphia. When we’ve tried in the past, it’s gotten messy very quickly because it’s hard to keep up with changes and details. I use the phone calendar, which is not perfect but much neater and better at handling changes. What do you think?”

I’m never a fan of pushing any type of organizing or time-management system on anyone. How we learn is how we organize our time, our spaces, and everything in between. Different systems work for different brain types. I’m a paper planner girl; digital simply doesn’t work for me. And I know I’m never going to change no matter how much my husband would like to sync our calendars!

That said, I do favor paper planners for my students for many reasons. (And in the interest of true disclosure, my company, Order Out Of Chaos , makes academic planners.)

Here’s my philosophy: Your student needs some type of planning tool to… well, plan! It’s all well and good for him to write what he needs to do in a digital calendar, but a proper academic planner helps you visualize what’s ahead so you can see your time and plan the time to do it.

Trust me when I say one of the most frequently asked questions I get from parents is how to get their student to use a paper planner. I get buy-in by asking my student coaching clients not what they have to do today or tomorrow or even next week, but when they have time to do it. Simply, a paper planner is a time-management tool ; not a “list keeper.”

If your child has dysgraphia and struggles with writing in a planner, then please find an electronic version of a planner that is laid out in a grid system, that shows both weekly and monthly views, and that allows him to write down both his assignments and any additional activities that require his time. This will give him the big picture — the sum of all his moving parts.

And just some food for thought: I have plenty of students with writing challenges and they still use a paper planner. Many of them have devised their own shorthand or abbreviations or use “texting” language.
