Deep Rock Galactic: How To Promote Your Character

Don't let the dystopic future get your Dwarf down! Promote them to unlock extras like The Forge, Deep Dives, and Prestige Missions.

You can only level up your dwarf in Deep Rock Galactic so much. There is a max level you can achieve per character. The max class level is 25 , after this, you can no longer upgrade your dwarf. This isn't the end of your gaming experience, though. Through Promoting your dwarf, you can achieve higher ranks as a player and unlock more content within the game.

RELATED: Deep Rock Galactic: The Best Perks To Equip

Promoting your character is basically a level-up and a reset at the same time. Your basic red, class level goes back down to one, but you receive a star above your icon. The more you promote your dwarf, the more stars you can get. Each time, you'll have to start from level one and work your way back up to the max level to promote again.

Things you can unlock by promoting your character include extensive dwarf customization and specialized, longer missions. Below is a step-by-step guide on how to level up your character even more in Deep Rock Galactic.

STEP ONE: Reach Max Level

If you mainly play as Scout and have reached level 25, that level will only be for Scout and not for the other classes. You'll have to individually level up each character if you want them all promoted. In the character selection screen, you'll see a red level under your dwarf icon. This is the class level. The blue level, located on the top right corner of the screen, is your personal player level. The player level does not affect promoting your dwarf.

Complete Missions and Assignments

  • Double XP Missions
  • Secondary objectives

The first step you have to take is getting your player to level 25. It's easy to do this if you main one class and play often. Some ways to maximize experience and start leveling up quickly are to select missions that have a double XP buff . When you select the map to start a mission, some planets will have positive or negative attributes.

Some may have dangerously explosive bugs, others may produce extra experience for you. If you or your friends have missions on your map that say they provide extra experience, make sure to do them all.

Another way to maximize your experience is to make sure you do your side objectives. Every mission you do has a primary objective, whether it be connecting liquid morkite pipes or collecting alien eggs. No matter what, there will always be a secondary objective that is optional. By completing these secondary objectives, you will get extra money and experience upon successful completion of the mission.

You also get extra money and experience from collecting way more ore than is asked of you.

The next step to promoting your dwarf is starting the Promotion Assignments at the assignments terminal. This terminal is located between the equipment terminal and the drop pod when inside the Space Rig. You can only start these assignments when you hit level 25. Promotion Assignments can be done with friends.

Promotion Assignments

The photo above shows what you should be looking for when selecting your Promotion Assignment. When you start a Promotion Assignment, you begin a series of missions. These missions are the same as the normal missions you usually complete, the only difference is that these ones will allow you to promote your dwarf once you finish them all.

RELATED: Deep Rock Galactic: Complete Scout Guide

The Promotion Assignment consists of four different missions for each dwarf. They can be escort missions, refinery, or old-fashioned mining. Once you complete all four, you're eligible for a promotion. It isn't that easy, though. After working hard during these missions, you'll have to pay a hefty fee to get the promotion once and for all.

Enter Memorial Hall

After completing the four Promotion Assignment missions, you can access the promotion terminal from inside the Memorial Hall in the Space Rig. To get to Memorial Hall, ride the elevator located to the left of the equipment terminal. The Promotion terminal is directly behind the statues in the middle of the room.

Once you interact with the terminal, you'll be prompted to select the dwarf you want to promote. Then you'll have to pay the price.

The Benefits of Promoting Your Character In Deep Rock Galactic

Prestige assignments, machine events.

  • Extra Perk Slot

Once you've promoted at least one dwarf once, you can access a ton of new content. There are two terminals at the back of the Space Rig that you previously couldn't interact with . These are the Deep Dive terminal and The Forge.

These are long and intense missions. The gameplay is the same, collect this and kill this, but they last longer and are increasingly difficult. This was added into the game to provide players who have already unlocked everything to continue to enjoy the game and face new adversities. Instead of having one mission that lasts around 35 minutes with a primary and secondary objective, you have three missions with two primary objectives each.

Each objective must be completed for you to be able to continue on to the next mission. Deep Dives are weekly, difficult missions for those seeking more and wanting a higher reward. Rewards include an item to activate Machine Events and next-level customization and upgrades that can only be used at The Forge.

This new system allows you to craft better things. You can receive Weapon Overclocks, which are weapon mods , and weapon and dwarf cosmetics. These special mods and cosmetics can only be crafted, purchased, and equipped at The Forge. To earn the special weapon mods, you need to complete Deep Dives or to complete missions unlocked from promoting your dwarves, such as Weekly Core Hunts and Machine Events.

Players must unlock these at first, but they can be started at the Assignments terminal in the Space Rig and allow you to earn paint jobs and cosmetics upon completion. You'll be able to have full pickaxe customization, whereas normally you would only find one piece of a full set.

These random objectives that can spawn during any mission. If you want extra money, experience, Weapon Overclocks, and Matrix Core cosmetics, you'll want to complete events. You may bump into these events without having the ability to enable them. They need a special key that can only be acquired if you've promoted your dwarf.

Starting a Machine Event involves protecting machines and extractions against waves of enemies. You can complete a Machine Event and not receive rewards. This happens when you don't have a Blank Matrix Core on you, received from Deep Dives and Weekly Core Hunts.

Upcoming PS5 and Xbox Game Has Serious Ratchet and Clank Vibes

New steam co-op survival game is getting rave reviews, stardew valley fan shares impressive recreation of jojamart, quick links, buying pickaxe parts through dlc, finding pickaxe parts through lost packs, earning pickaxe parts through prestige assignments..

Deep Rock Galactic is an unexpectedly big game, and only growing bigger. The game already had over three million players, and gained a big player base boost with Deep Rock Galactic 's PS5 release .

That being said, it's one thing to get a significant influx of players. It's another thing to keep them playing. Long-term support is important for multiplayer game development, funded by DLC and Deep Rock Galactic 's seasonal events .

RELATED: Deep Rock Galactic: How to Call Supply Drops

One of the ways to ensure player retention is to allow for customization. Making the player's character and gear feel special creates a sense of positive investment. Deep Rock Galactic achieves this through customizable pickaxe parts .

Out of the three ways to get pickaxe parts, purchasing them directly through the game's DLC packs is the easiest and most direct. There are six DLC packs that include pickaxe parts and skins: The Supporter Upgrade, The Dark Future Pack, The MegaCorp Pack, The Roughneck Pack, the Dawn of The Dread Pack, and the Rival Tech Pack. At the time of writing, the Supporter Upgrade is $14.99 USD, while each of the others is $7.99 USD.

Lost Packs are a roll of the dice. Deep Rock Galactic 's levels are randomly generated , and each level has a random chance of spawning a Lost Pack, the remaining equipment of a dead miner.

While this doesn't affect the packs' contents, they're more likely to spawn in longer missions. Short missions have a one in ten chance, medium missions have a one in six chance, and long missions have a one in three chance.

Players can find lost packs by listening for the beeping it gives off or finding a pink star on the terrain scanner. Each player gets gold, a crafting material, and either a pickaxe part or an armor paint job when the pack is found.

Assignments are Deep Rock Galactic 's pre-set mission chains . Prestige assignments are four mission assignments that always end with cosmetic items as a reward.

Prestige assignments are locked behind player rank. Heavy Duty is unlocked at Rank 5, Chasm-Borne Cliffhanger is unlocked at Rank 20, Gadgeteer's Favorite is unlocked at Rank 30, Reaper's Claw is unlocked at Rank 50, and Drift Crusher is unlocked at Rank 70. The previous prestige assignment must be completed before the next one can be accessed.

Deep Rock Galactic is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Deep Rock Galactic Season 5 has you plunge to new depths with "Drillevators"

A Season 6 release window has also been detailed

We learned a bit about Deep Rock Galactic's upcoming Season 5 update a few weeks ago, and now we know a bit more thanks to a Ghost Ship dev stream. Not only has it gifted us details on the new mission type and the new season event, it's also given us an idea of when we might see Season 6 emerge. I suppose you could liken the stream to a bushy Dwarven beard, from which the devs pluck out announcements like it's show and tell. And the show and tell is set in a dingy mine. And there are multiple pints involved.

Cover image for YouTube video

Alright so, Deep Rock's new mission type is called "Deep Scan" and it involves locating a new resource: Morkite Seeds. They're encased in Morkite Geodes, found "deeper within Hoxxes". You'll need to locate the geodes, get down to them, extract the Morkite seeds, and get back alive. The "get down to them" part involves mission control sending an enormous Drillevator your way, which you'll ride down as it alerts the local Glyphid population. To get back up? You'll pop on Mark II Jet Boots and hoof it.

As for that new season event, it involves mysterious Core Stones. They're purple and glowy, which suggests that extracting them will involve something bad happening. All we can say for sure right now is that this is almost certainly the case. "Let's hope extracting it is as easy as it seems", say the devs, innocently.

Twelve new Overclocks are on the way, too. Highlights include one that turns the pump action shotgun into a 6-gauge monster capable of "punching through multiple enemies", and a special choke for the flamethrower that lets it spew a horizontal wave of flame by holding reload.

For the sturdiest dwarves, the new Hazard 5+ difficulty can be unlocked via "an assignment". And new mission warnings and mutations should make things even more brutal. There's one called "Blood Sugar" that fills caves with airborne toxins that constantly drain your health and makes dead Glyphids drop your only means of healing up.

Previously, the devs said that Deep Rock Galactic's next season, Season 6, would drop after their roguelike Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core launched into early access. This is still the case, except that Rogue Core's now due sometime after its closed alpha in "Q1 of 2025", meaning that Season 6 is a fair ways off. They attribute this to development of both games being tricky to balance, which is fair enough! "A wise philosopher once said: Never half-ass two things. Whole-ass one thing".

There is so much more. Too much for this news post, but you can read all of Season 5's many additions over on the Steam announcement .

Update Changes

Soundtrack vol. ii.

SOUNDTRACK VOL. II For the last year we have been working on a Vol. II of the soundtrack for DRG - and it is finally here - allowing you to mine, fight and groove to 14 completely new tracks of synthy, bassy goodness! Deep Rock Galactic needs to invest in some bigger speakers… NOW!

New Promotion Tiers

Believe it or not but now there are 3 more Tiers above Gold, for when you are promoting your dwarves: PLATINUM, DIAMOND, LEGENDARY! This is mainly a show-off thing for super veteran players who have been investing blood, sweat and a lot of time in Deep Rock Galactic. We salute you!

Prestige Assignments

As you increase your Player Rank, you will get access to special Prestige Assignments. Completing them will reward you with full sets of Pickaxe parts, Armor skins and new Helmets. Prestige Assignments are unlocked at Player Rank 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 75 and 100.

A couple of months ago we were toying around with awarding you vanity on the promotion itself (some of you might have tested it on the Experimental build), but we were not totally happy with the system and have instead gone for an approach with unlocking Prestige Assignments based on your Player Rank.

Post Update Hotfixes

16th May, 2020

  • Fixed Dreadnought eggs in elimination was not using correct terrain detection and could be placed on very thin ground, making the egg break immidiatly.
  • The egg can no longer be removed by removing terrain below it before it has been broken. (It leaves half a shell that can then be removed by removing terrain)
  • Explosive barrel dispenser now selects a nearby location when it fails to find a valid location rather than 0,0,0 - The actor should now be destroyed properly when game events explode
  • Flares are now upgraded from the start instead of having to purchase mods. Those who bought the mods will get them refunded. The flare mods were a remnant from the old upgrade system. They were not adding anything substantial to the player progression and were an unnecessary hindrance to new players
  • Adjusted Machine event floor height so that they are less covered. (Like before)

Hello Miners!

We just released a new hotfix patch and besides the usual chunk of fixes and tweaks, we’ve also added some things in relation to the cosmetic Packs.

First of all, we realized that the Dark Future Pack lacked an obvious component: a Dark Future Paintjob for all weapons. It makes sense to have the counterpart included so you can have a complete look with one purchase.

From all the feedback we got (and thanks for that), it was clear that some were quite confused on what they had actually received in the various Packs and where to find the items. So we have now added a nice Claim pop-up for each Pack, including the Supporter Upgrade. This will pop for all that have bought the Packs no matter how long time since it was acquired.

Finally, we saw there was a clear expectation that buying a Pack with a unique Framework (armor or weapon mesh) would include a Paintjob that was applicable across all meshes of the same type. This is not the case by default, so we added the Pack unique Paintjobs to fit other meshes.

For the in-game Frameworks (again both armor and weapon meshes), we have now added a new icon to the default Paintjob indicating that this default Paintjob is just the basic skin and not applicable to all meshes.

In this hotfix you will also find a small QoL feature for photosensitive players, and minor convenience tweaks like changing Waypoint marker to Use key (defaults to E) instead of holding Fire, which was not super intuitive.

We’ll keep listening to your feedback and adjust accordingly.

With love, The Ghost Ship Crew

  • Dark Future DLC Pack has been expanded with Dark Future Paintjobs for all weapons
  • Added the ability to apply the Dark Future DLC armor paintjob to all armors
  • Added the ability to apply the MegaCorp DLC weapon paintjob to all weapons
  • Added a new icon to all Paintjob menus to better clarify the Default Paintjob
  • Added huge rare crystal formations to the Crystal Caverns
  • Added “Claim” pop-ups for Dark Future, MegaCorp & Supporter Upgrade DLCs to alleviate the issue of players not knowing where to find them
  • Added a Photosensitive Mode option in the Gameplay options. It is work in progress and for best results, you should not toggle it while in a mission, but onboard the Spacerig. For now, it removes some blinking lights including the Supply Pods, the MULE and the Drop Pod
  • Added a new grabarm model for the Drop Pod in the Spacerig
  • Improved the look of the Pickaxe Customization Terminal
  • Improved some cave formations
  • Fixed a bug that caused Deeptora Honeycombs to no be properly affected by poison, radiation, and cold
  • Marked more text for localization based on translator feedback
  • Fixed a bug that enabled BET-C to fire her weapons while inside a wall
  • Fixed a case where BET-C would be stuck not being able to fire
  • Fixed a bug related to Dreadnought achievements

Gagarin cup (khl) finals:  atlant moscow oblast vs. salavat yulaev ufa.

Much like the Elitserien Finals, we have a bit of an offense vs. defense match-up in this league Final.  While Ufa let their star top line of Alexander Radulov, Patrick Thoresen and Igor Grigorenko loose on the KHL's Western Conference, Mytischi played a more conservative style, relying on veterans such as former NHLers Jan Bulis, Oleg Petrov, and Jaroslav Obsut.  Just reaching the Finals is a testament to Atlant's disciplined style of play, as they had to knock off much more high profile teams from Yaroslavl and St. Petersburg to do so.  But while they did finish 8th in the league in points, they haven't seen the likes of Ufa, who finished 2nd.

This series will be a challenge for the underdog, because unlike some of the other KHL teams, Ufa's top players are generally younger and in their prime.  Only Proshkin amongst regular blueliners is over 30, with the work being shared by Kirill Koltsov (28), Andrei Kuteikin (26), Miroslav Blatak (28), Maxim Kondratiev (28) and Dmitri Kalinin (30).  Oleg Tverdovsky hasn't played a lot in the playoffs to date.  Up front, while led by a fairly young top line (24-27), Ufa does have a lot of veterans in support roles:  Vyacheslav Kozlov , Viktor Kozlov , Vladimir Antipov, Sergei Zinovyev and Petr Schastlivy are all over 30.  In fact, the names of all their forwards are familiar to international and NHL fans:  Robert Nilsson , Alexander Svitov, Oleg Saprykin and Jakub Klepis round out the group, all former NHL players.

For Atlant, their veteran roster, with only one of their top six D under the age of 30 (and no top forwards under 30, either), this might be their one shot at a championship.  The team has never won either a Russian Superleague title or the Gagarin Cup, and for players like former NHLer Oleg Petrov, this is probably the last shot at the KHL's top prize.  The team got three extra days rest by winning their Conference Final in six games, and they probably needed to use it.  Atlant does have younger regulars on their roster, but they generally only play a few shifts per game, if that.

The low event style of game for Atlant probably suits them well, but I don't know how they can manage to keep up against Ufa's speed, skill, and depth.  There is no advantage to be seen in goal, with Erik Ersberg and Konstantin Barulin posting almost identical numbers, and even in terms of recent playoff experience Ufa has them beat.  Luckily for Atlant, Ufa isn't that far away from the Moscow region, so travel shouldn't play a major role.

I'm predicting that Ufa, winners of the last Superleague title back in 2008, will become the second team to win the Gagarin Cup, and will prevail in five games.  They have a seriously well built team that would honestly compete in the NHL.  They represent the potential of the league, while Atlant represents closer to the reality, as a team full of players who played themselves out of the NHL.

  • Atlant @ Ufa, Friday Apr 8 (3:00 PM CET/10:00 PM EST)
  • Atlant @ Ufa, Sunday Apr 10 (1:00 PM CET/8:00 AM EST)
  • Ufa @ Atlant, Tuesday Apr 12 (5:30 PM CET/12:30 PM EST)
  • Ufa @ Atlant, Thursday Apr 14 (5:30 PM CET/12:30 PM EST)

Games 5-7 are as yet unscheduled, but every second day is the KHL standard, so expect Game 5 to be on Saturday, like an early start.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

deep rock galactic prestige assignments

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
