TonyBet has a modern user interface. The initial main page highlights the sportsbook portion of the brand. The bar at the top of the screen allows you to flick between different sections of the betting site, such as casino, sportsbook, live casino, and promos.

The online casino interface has a familiar tile format, in common with most other online casinos. The casino menu focuses on slots, but if you use the search bar and type your game of choice (e.g. blackjack) these games also appear in tile format. Finally, once you’ve chosen your bets, you’ll see it reflected on a betting slip in the smaller right column. This list collects all of the bets you’ve picked and shows the amounts placed, as well as your potential profit. All-in-all, TonyBet is a well-designed, easy-to-use sportsbook.

Horrendous Communication and No Bonuses

Tonybet has the worst communication to customers perhaps out of any sportsbook out there. I was told 4 days ago that I had a "VIP agent" and that they would contact me via email about a proper free bet to add to my account. No email received. I was then told that the promotions department would email me about the request...still no email. I was then given an email address to my supposed VIP agent : to a James. Still no response from James. Since the existence of my account with them, my account required contacting me via email about a dozen times, and I have not received a single email from them. At this point, they have made up the fact that I have a VIP agent or manager to try to get me to continue depositing and playing there, and have no such thing in place for clients that deposit 5-6 figures a year. This is pathetic. I've taken my money to Pinnacle, Bet365 and Draftkings instead of Tonybet. Each of these other sites make contact with you when they say they will, they all provide better sports odds on every event, Bet365 and Draftkings actually do have a real VIP and VIP manager and they contact you regularly with bonuses.

Stay away from these guys. They approved my withdrawal. But I haven’t received the money. Contacted them and all they say is just wait 5 days. A complete scam. I lodged a small amount of money to Tonybet to avail of the sports bonus (100% equal value to deposit). My experience was very similar to previous reviews. I initially deposited to receive the sports bonus. I expected the rollover, which wasn’t unreasonable. However, TonyBet quickly enforced bet maximums on NCAA basketball when I started to accumulate wins. I typically wager $100 per game and the bet maximums were under $10, making it impossible to attain the required rollover. I, of course, wasn’t going to tolerate this, so I bet on hockey to fulfill my obligation for the bonus. Once received, I learned that the bonus was in the form of a free play parlay with no less than 3 legs. What an absolute scam. Like many of the previous reviews: blackjack crashed regularly (taking my money without dealing cards) and customer service doesn’t respond to inquiries. I have had a horrible experience with this sportsbook. I deposited money onto my account and was almost immediately told I couldn't bet more than a dollar (despite not winning any money - in fact I lost 1/3 of my initial deposit). I was not given an explanation regarding this. Then when I tried to withdraw my remaining 2/3, they continuously have been sending me in circles, asking for the same verification documents I have already provided. The casino welcome offer for new players is great, as there are two to claim. The first is 100% up to C$1,000 with 120 free spins. The second is 50% up to $500 with 50 free spins. 

I appreciate when the best online casinos offer these two-time bonuses, but only if they work for me. As with offers of any kind, there will be terms and conditions that make or break them. TonyBet’s casino welcome bonuses are generous but hardly too good to be true. For a start, the wagering requirement on casino bonuses is 40x bonus, which is slightly above the average of 30x. But there is a silver lining – you don’t have to wager the bonus and your deposit. 

Free spins are also offered as part of the welcome bonus for new players. Any wins from these free spins must also be rolled over 40x. I noticed that bets don’t count if they are canceled, returned, or cashed out. Furthermore, it surprised me to see that this bonus expires after 14 days, which isn’t great. If it takes you more than fourteen days to meet the wagering requirements, you will lose the bonus. So make sure to choose your bets wisely and ensure you satisfy any terms and conditions.

In addition to the main casino and sports bonuses at TonyBet, there are some other offers worth checking out. These include a Friday Reload worth 50% up to C$150 and 50 free spins on a chosen game. One thing I recommend before depositing with TonyBet is to consider the site’s closed-loop policy. If you are unfamiliar with this term, it’s basically an anti-money laundering measure designed to protect the site and players.

It’s up there with one of the best online live dealer casinos I’ve seen, with gameshow titles like Mega Wheel, Dreamcatcher, and Wheel of Fortune. What Slots Does TonyBet Have?

TonyBet has one of the strongest selections of slots I have ever seen. That might sound like hyperbole, but it’s true. You’ll find top video slot machines, 3D slots , and classic titles from developers like Betsoft, Pragmatic Play, Blueprint, Nucleus Gaming, Quickspin, and over 100 other studios. There are also Bonus Buy titles, like Panda’s Wealth, that allow you to purchase special features.

As a huge fan of the Big Bass series, and fish slots in general, I was delighted to see eight of these games at TonyBet. From Big Bass Bonanza and Hold and Spinner to Keepin it Reel and Megaways, I was in my element. Admittedly, playing Christmas Big Bass Bonanza in the summer was strange, but I was lucky enough to get some good wins on it! The Drops & Wins feature means you could receive a random payout at any time, simply by clicking the option at the start of any eligible slot game. 

Princess Suki by Belatra is another slot I enjoyed playing. This Asian-themed title features nice, soft graphics and the opportunity to hit some bonuses. As I was new to this one, I was interested to read slot reviews of the game to garner stuff like the volatility and RTP. But I didn’t need to bother – these details were made available to me when the slot loaded. I was really impressed that the site went that extra mile in providing this data.

TonyBet is stocked to the hilt with table games. If you like blackjack and roulette, there are 25 different versions of each. I found 23 baccarat variants to play, which is great. You can also find craps and several versions of pai gow and mahjong.

I’m not afraid to say that I felt slightly overwhelmed with so many choices! There is no way my review of the online casino at Tonybet can include all games, so I decided to pick a few and give you my thoughts. I started by sampling a few roulette games which loaded fast and were of good quality. 10p Roulette comes highly recommended for low-stake players, but I would also suggest the site’s Belatra’s European Roulette. I had to specify that one as I counted 32 versions of European roulette on the site!

Having run through several versions of baccarat and blackjack, I recommend Baccarat No Commission and Single Deck Blackjack. These were two solid games with good RTPs and smooth designs. In reality, they were the best of the games I picked so there might even be some better ones to sample. Going through the entirety of the game selection would have taken me a very long time! 

If you love table games, there is no doubt you’ll find what you’re looking for at TonyBet. With so many games from different software providers, there is no way you’ll be found wanting. This is one of the most varied sites I’ve ever come across and cannot say a bad word about their video table games selection. 

Video Poker and Crash Games

There are 25 video poker variants to try in the TonyBet casino. These include versions of Caribbean poker, Russian poker, Texas hold ‘em, and Joker poker. The selection is solid enough but I think this might be the weakest area of the casino so far.

A strong video poker selection isn’t necessary to have a great casino library. But it does help. If you’re fond of this online casino game, you might be looking for at least one version of Jacks or Better – unfortunately, I couldn’t find one.  That’s hardly the end of the world, considering the options at your disposal. But it is something to think about.

If the video poker selection at TonyBet is a little so-so, the opposite can be said for the crash games on the site. I have never seen a site with more titles in this genre. In addition to the traditional plane or spaceship-style crash games, you have some pretty obscure ones like PI Plinko and Mafia: Syndicate. It’s a tidy selection they have here and I loved trying some of these games out. My favorite had to be Aviator – a game so good that TonyBet pinned it to the top of the landing page! 

Other games found in the Crash section of the site – which is located in between the other options under the Casino menu – are Balloon and Spaceman. Both are great ways to kill time and can also be considered nice gateways to these types of games. 

While the layout and design of the site also score well in my review of TonyBet, I did notice a snag when looking for video poker titles. The game menu can change depending on where you are in the main casino section. When I selected the poker subsection, about 30 slots, and assorted games came up. This may be a simple bug in the system but it is something to consider when looking for your favorite titles.

TonyBet Live Casino Review

I am a huge fan of the live casino at TonyBet. It has everything you would expect in a sophisticated real dealer offering, with 24 live roulette titles as well as 5 blackjack and 3 baccarat games. You can find sic bo, Andar Bahar, keno, and so much more, depending on the country you are playing from.

When reviewing sites, I expect online live casinos to cover the basics like roulette and blackjack. But when there are games like keno, bingo, Music Wheel, virtual soccer, and virtual basketball? That’s a statement of intent. And when you see the full range of live casino games at TonyBet, you’ll be even more impressed. Especially by the Drops & Wins live casino games. 

You can find multiple bet sizes depending on the game you choose to play. These range from 20c and go up to the thousands. Software providers vary in the live casino at TonyBet – you can expect to see games from Evolution Gaming, Pragmatic Play, Authentic Gaming, and more. What I found when playing a few rounds of live roulette and baccarat was the quality sustained throughout. One of the dealers looked as if they would prefer to be elsewhere when playing one version of blackjack, but the rest were bright and positive. 

At this point in my online review of TonyBet, I was feeling very confident about the site’s quality. Thankfully, there were no snags, cut-offs, or crashes when playing in and navigating around the live dealer casino. It was more than a memorable experience and one that I am sure I will be recreating at some point down the line.

Some TonyBet reviews mentioned horse racing, but I couldn’t find it. This might be down to horse racing only being available in some countries that are served by TonyBet.

I found it very easy to get around the TonyBet sportsbook when using my phone or clicking from my desktop. Finding markets is easy enough, and there is supporting literature that helps you understand complex odds or features. Prop building or early cashout, for example. I thought this was a nice touch as it indicated that the site wants its users to be somewhat educated on the bets they are placing. This is done without being patronizing or feeling like they are butting in. 

TonyBet Esports Review

There is a wide selection of esports events at TonyBet. You can find odds for esport Counter-Strike, Call of Duty, League of Legends, and more. I decided to place a couple of bets on Dota and found the process simple and direct. 

I also liked the Overwatch odds and markets available. I placed a couple of bets on Florida Mayhem to beat Hangzhou Spark and Houston Outlaws to overcome Boston Uprising. Both events are future bets that will take place a few days after I have finished my Tonybet reviews. Fingers crossed!

Another thing I liked about the esports coverage on this site was the soccer tournaments you could get on. As I write this, I am tracking the score in a game that I didn’t bet on. There is still time for me to wager in play, which is great. Some sites are more restrictive in only offering live odds for major events, while TonyBet is happy to permit live betting on what is a low-level contest. 

TonyBet Sports VIP Program

Having seen the “Leaderboard” option at the top of the screen, I was curious to find out more about TonyBet’s sports VIP program. In short, you can get up to $8,000 per month by signing up for this. There are six levels with a point being awarded for every $3 you bet on sports events with odds of 1.3 or more. 

There is a catch, however. The points you earn are wiped off and reset to zero once a month. This is seemingly done to encourage more players to bet more, which is understandable from a business perspective. If you want to exchange your rewards for free bets, this can be done at the end of each month. Here is how the tier system works.

According to TonyBet customer service, and the terms and conditions on the site, new players are enrolled for the VIP program automatically. The agent I spoke to, Jane, also confirmed that the Sport VIP Program levels are reset at the start of the month. This could be handy information if you have accrued a lot of points!

Speaking with Jane on the live chat was really helpful. She also told me that points were not lost when levels are reset. Instead, they are transferred to your bonus balance and can be converted into free bets. You get C$1 for every 100 comp points earned. The free bet duration lasts five days, however, so I recommend taking this into account.

How Good is the TonyBet Mobile App?

TonyBet has a native app that can be downloaded via a QR code on the site. The app is geared at Apple and Android users and is touted as an all-in-one betting experience at the tip of your fingers. You can find sports markets next to table games and live casino offerings. All while benefitting from what the site refers to as “extra features.”

I downloaded the app to my Android phone and tried it out. In addition to betting on sports, I also played some casino games and reached out to customer support. The app looks great and worked smoothly while I was at my desktop and taking a little break in the garden. The design is almost identical to the main TonyBet site with minor tweaks to make it more optimized for mobile. Next to the mobile site that I accessed from my phone’s browser, I couldn’t see much of a difference.

Almost every single one of the “extra features” are simply what you get when playing from desktop or online. Things like tournaments, forecasts, events, and VIP data are not exactly new things. My Experience Reviewing TonyBet

Hello all, and welcome to my TonyBet review! I’ll be taking you in-depth inside this site that accepts Canadian players and has been around since 2011. It provides both a sportsbook and an online casino to its customers.

I was less enthused about the casino interface that makes you go searching for table games. That was a minor problem, though, and the site atoned for it with a diverse live casino and interesting sports betting contests and features.

Although the minimum for credit card payments is a low C$15, TonyBet requires you to deposit a minimum of C$75 if you’re using Bitcoin or other digital coins. That can be a big negative to casual gamblers who don’t want to deposit too much to start.

The welcome bonus in the casino is generous but hard to clear. You need to wager the extra cash 50 times on slots, which can be a challenge. Other games don't count, making the offer exclusive for slots fans.

That’s an excellent bonus in pretty much every area. It’s above the Canadian industry average in terms of the maximum limit. On top of that, the 5x rollover is as low as it gets. Keep in mind that the bets that count toward the rollover must have odds of at least 1.5 for single wagers or 1.7 for multiples.

On top of the money mentioned above, TonyBet Casino will also give you 120 free spins with this welcome bonus.

There are some conditions that make this less favorable for casual gamblers who don’t love slots. First, the rollover is high. Second, only slots contribute to the rollover. In addition, the max bet you can make while clearing a bonus is only C$10, which is another obstacle.

On the casino side, there are 30 different levels, with special rewards waiting like free chips and bonuses, priority customer support, and exclusive offers. You’ll get 1 comp point for every C$20 you bet while playing slots, and the conversion rate is 100 points for every $1 in free play. Bonuses are awarded at each level, and keep in mind that there’s a 50x rollover on any free play you earn. The big difference between the casino and sports VIP programs is that there is a monthly reset on the sports side, meaning that you return to the lowest level each month. The casino VIP levels stay the same and you can’t lose your status.

You can get a boost of 50% up C$100 when you make your second deposit at TonyBet. In addition, you’ll get 50 free spins on a specific slots game. The minimum deposit to earn this bonus is C$20 and the rollover is 50x.

This bonus occurs when you’re playing slots in the TonyBet online casino. It can occur two ways. You might receive a random bonus while you’re playing. This promotion takes place in the TonyBet sportsbook and has to do with combo bets (also known as parlays.) To qualify, you have to make a combo bet with anywhere from 3 to 20 selections. As you can see, there’s a great selection there, and I like the fact that you can choose between several providers for a specific version of each category of game. They should be easier to access, but the table games at TonyBet deliver diverse action.

This is another case of TonyBet missing out by not showcasing their video poker selection. I found over 30 different video poker games, but only by searching for “Poker”. Even then, I didn’t find Jacks or Better, the most common form of video poker, until I searched “Jacks or Better.” A game with a house edge as low as video poker (often under 1%) should be front and center. Luckily, once you do find them, you’ll find an excellent variety at TonyBet, including games like All-American, Double Double Bonus, and Deuces Wild. Many of these include multi-hand action (as many as 100 hands at once), and betting limits ranged from C$0.20 to C$20 per coin, which works out to a max of C$1 to C$100 per hand.

Joining Bowyer and Barkley that day were a sports agent and a Midwestern tool magnate. But unlike the rest of the group, Bowyer’s source of wealth was elusive. On paper, he was a Renaissance man — dojo operator, day trader, landscaper, real estate developer. But records and interviews suggest that among some casino hosts and executives who catered to him, Bowyer’s real occupation was well known: bookie.

A tournament spokesman said the event did not have records of how many years Bowyer played but that his pairing with Barkley was probably purposeful. “The casino would have wanted to put him with a golfer with whom he’d have something in common, which in Barkley’s case would be gambling,” the spokesman said.

Bowyer’s revenue source should have been a problem for the casinos hosting him. Federal anti-money laundering laws forbid the casinos here from allowing suspected bookies or other criminals from wagering at their tables. Nonetheless, employees up and down organizational charts at some of the largest properties on the Las Vegas Strip welcomed the action of Bowyer and his partners, according to interviews and confidential records reviewed by The Washington Post.

They comped Bowyer millions of dollars in discounted losses and perks, vouched for the legitimacy of his funds in internal correspondence and lifted restrictions on him for the promise of seven-figure cashier’s checks. They even gave his wife legal income for bringing in her husband’s action. All the while, they catered to him, comping penthouses and villas, shuttling him on casino-owned jets and pairing him with Barkley.

Bowyer’s real occupation went from open secret on the Strip to the stuff of global headlines in March, when multiple outlets reported that he had received millions of dollars from a bank account belonging to Ohtani. Ohtani’s former interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara, has since pleaded guilty to siphoning Ohtani’s money to pay off gambling debts without the ballplayer’s knowledge.

Now the ease with which Bowyer and other major bookies allegedly washed millions at Nevada tables has become a focal point of multiple official investigations, roiling Vegas and casting scrutiny on a federal investigation that was in full swing well before Bowyer and Mizuhara’s cameo roles.

Over the past two years, a dozen people have been indicted in connection with that probe, shedding light on an underworld of illegal sports-betting by well-known sports figures or those close to them, including former Dodgers phenom Yasiel Puig and LeBron James associate Maverick Carter, both of whom gambled with admitted bookie Wayne Nix .

Puig is awaiting trial for allegedly lying to federal agents; Carter has not been charged. No charges have been publicly filed against Bowyer. In Mizuhara’s indictment last month, prosecutors referred to Bowyer as a “target” in an ongoing investigation.

Longtime casino executive Scott Sibella pleaded guilty in December to federal charges stemming from allowing Nix to wager illegal bookmaking proceeds at Vegas tables. Two casinos, the MGM Grand and the Cosmopolitan, admitted that their hosts welcomed Nix despite knowing he was a bookie and forfeited millions to avoid prosecution.

The Post found that two other major casinos on the strip, The Venetian and Resorts World Las Vegas, accepted millions from Bowyer and his colorful cast of Southern California associates. They include, records show, Ryan Boyajian, a muscle-bound regular on “The Real Housewives of Orange County,” who prosecutors say accepted roughly $15 million stolen from Ohtani’s account. (ESPN first reported Boyajian’s involvement .)

The professional sports industry, once deeply wary of Las Vegas, has enmeshed itself here like never before, with the city hosting the Super Bowl in February and making plans for an MLB team . But the unspooling scandal has called into question whether Vegas, where much of the power is consolidated in the executive offices of the casinos on the Strip, is capable of policing itself.

Richard Schuetz, a former casino executive and gaming commissioner, said state regulators have yet to prove they can hold casinos accountable. He referred to a chapter in this saga in which regulators publicly cleared Sibella of wrongdoing a year ago — only for him to then plead guilty to similar allegations in federal court.

“I think what they mean by, ‘We started an investigation,’ ” Schuetz said of the control board, “is that, ‘We got a guy who reads the morning paper every day to see if they’re saying any more s--- about us.’ ”

Kirk Hendrick, chairman of the Nevada Gaming Control Board, dismissed the insinuation that his agency has not acted. “I’m not hearing any criticism from the industry,” Hendrick said. “The Nevada control board will investigate anybody who is either involved in or wants to be involved in the Nevada gaming industry.”

‘Everybody knew’

Las Vegas casinos have compliance departments whose job it is to vet significant gamblers. There were plenty of red flags in Bowyer’s file to give them pause about courting his action.

He had previously filed for bankruptcy. He repeatedly attempted to get out of paying six- or seven-figure gambling debts to casinos, court records show. And then there was the matter of Bowyer’s occupation.

Bowyer had long been on the radar of law enforcement, including when Florida deputies seized $100,000 mailed to his house by a crew of suspected bookies with mob ties .

A frequent presence in Bowyer’s business dealings over the years, records show, was Boyajian, his close friend and partner long before he became a minor celebrity for his relationship with a Real Housewives cast member .

In bankruptcy filings, Bowyer said he received a $245,000 loan from Boyajian in 2010. Both men were intertwined in an alleged Belizean land scam litigated by the Federal Trade Commission , in which court records show that several key players had ties to offshore sports betting. Boyajian’s attorney has said he did nothing wrong and was “not implicated.” In court testimony, Boyajian said he had been fired from a previous job as a mortgage lender for what he called “fraud,” for listing his own bank account number on a client’s loan application.

In 2017, Boyajian reported in a divorce that he averaged $350,000 in annual income as a property manager but sometimes made as much as $1 million. He had a busy side hustle, though, according to allegations made by federal authorities in court records: He accepted millions of dollars in wagers as part of Bowyer’s bookmaking business.

In interpreter Mizuhara’s federal indictment last month , Boyajian was referred to anonymously as “Associate 1,” according to multiple people with direct knowledge of the case. The indictment alleges that Boyajian received wire transfers from at least two Bowyer clients, including Mizuhara. Boyajian received $15 million from Ohtani’s bank account between February 2022 and October 2023, according to the indictment.

Court records do not provide more detail on what if any additional role Boyajian played in Bowyer’s operation. He has not been charged. According to the people with knowledge of the case, he has an immunity deal with prosecutors. An attorney representing him, Steven Jay Katzman, said he couldn’t comment: “Because it’s an active investigation in which he’s cooperating, we can’t confirm or deny anything.”

Boyajian was also Bowyer’s frequent companion on Vegas gambling trips, where, according to several people who encountered him, Bowyer dropped his subterfuge about his real occupation.

“It was no secret; everybody knew in the casino business that he was a bookie,” said Brandon Sattler, a former high roller who said he met Bowyer many times, including at high-stakes blackjack tournaments. “If people got to know him playing at tournaments and they talked to him, he would admit it.”

As a bookie, Bowyer had access to millions of dollars in cash and a tireless appetite for wagering it, mostly on baccarat. He had a long history with The Venetian, including being briefly barred from the property before being permitted back in. And Bowyer’s wagering there accelerated around 2019, according to a person with direct knowledge of his gambling. That year, Bowyer regularly brought the casino cashier’s checks worth up to $1 million.

Averaging $30,000 a hand at times, Bowyer lost up to $1.5 million in a single session. To keep his business, the Venetian gave Bowyer more than $3 million in “comps,” which can include forgiven losses, hotel rooms, jet trips and more. Bowyer’s host at the Venetian invited Bowyer and his wife, Nicole, to his wedding, photos on social media show.

Boyajian, meanwhile, was known on the Strip as a “rounder,” according to a person with direct knowledge of his wagering, meaning he made the rounds of casinos, seeking and being extended credit totaling in the millions of dollars.

In total, Bowyer lost $3.6 million at The Venetian, according to multiple people with direct knowledge. Boyajian won more than $300,000 from the Venetian, which suspended his credit line last year because of his debt to other casinos and slow repayment, according to a person with knowledge of his gambling.

The Venetian did not respond to requests for comment.

A decade ago, The Venetian’s parent company agreed to pay the federal government $47 million to end a money-laundering investigation stemming from a suspected drug trafficker gambling at its tables. The casino clamped down for a while after that, developing a reputation on the Strip for strict compliance policies.

But ultimately the Venetian allowed Bowyer as a customer. And that helped open the door for him at a major new casino up the street.

A whole new Resorts World

Resorts World Las Vegas opened in 2021, with Sibella as its president. Records reviewed by The Post suggest that the casino needed only mild convincing to take Bowyer as a customer. But in January 2022, an “independent rep” — essentially a freelance casino host — wrote to top Resorts World executive Doni Taube, citing the Venetian decision in trying to convince him to welcome Bowyer’s action.

“Matt does specialize in sports wagering, and day trading among his jitsu studio, investor in real estate development and a landscape business,” the independent rep wrote in the email. “As you are aware the Venetian compliance is very strict and they allow him to play there … I feel maybe we should consider that a big company like themselves found reason to allow him to play, and has not had any issues.”

“Matt is a cash player and will wire or bring a cashiers check for 1 million on a given trip,” the independent rep added.

The pitch apparently worked. During roughly the same period in which he and Boyajian received millions in wires from Ohtani’s bank account, Bowyer ultimately took 32 trips to Resorts World totaling 86 days, during which he lost $7.9 million, according to casino records reviewed by The Post. Boyajian lost $3.7 million over 21 trips.

Resorts World added another incentive for Bowyer to keep his action there. In 2022, according to multiple people with knowledge of the arrangement, the casino gave Nicole Bowyer, the founder of a women’s athleisure company, the role of Bowyer’s independent rep. She earned hundreds of thousands of dollars in commission on his play, all while also wagering herself, according to people with knowledge of the Bowyers’ wagering.

In a statement, Resorts World said that once the casino “became aware of information” regarding Mathew Bowyer and Boyajian, they barred them from the property, and that the company “is fully committed to its compliance obligations under state and federal laws and regulations.”

There is little evidence that Nevada regulators were seeking to crack down on suspected bookies wagering at Vegas tables before federal authorities got involved. In fact, regulators dismissed an early sign of trouble in 2022, when gambler Sattler testified during his bankruptcy that a Resorts World taqueria was secretly partly owned by another convicted Southern California bookie. Resorts World denied the allegation, and the Nevada Gaming Control Board cleared Sibella.

Also in 2022, according to Sibella’s later plea agreement, he told unidentified law enforcement agents he “heard that Nix was in the booking business,” referring to the other Orange County bookie. But Sibella said he didn’t want to know. “I stay out of it,” Sibella said, according to his guilty plea. “If we know, we can’t allow them to gamble.”

Seven months after the control board cleared him, Resorts World fired Sibella, saying that he “violated company policies and the terms of his employment.” A few months after that, he pleaded guilty to violating federal money laundering statutes. On Wednesday, Sibella was sentenced to one year probation with a $9,500 fine.

Hendrick, the control board chair, said that what his agency cleared Sibella of, and what he ultimately pleaded guilty to, were “two separate issues.”

Since the Ohtani scandal broke, the gaming control board has undertaken a new investigation apparently focused on Bowyer and others wagering at the tables, dragging gamblers and hosts to its drab headquarters miles away from the Strip for questioning.

One of Bowyer’s old favorite haunts on the Strip has also taken belated action. In March, five months after the feds raided his house and just days before he was publicly implicated in the scandal surrounding Ohtani’s interpreter, records show, management at The Venetian finally decided that he was no longer allowed on the property.
