Cambridge B1 Preliminary (PET): How to write an article in 2021
- Mandatory task: no
- Word count: around 100 words
- Main characteristics: title, interesting/engaging language
- Structure: introduction, main paragraphs, ending
- Language: interesting adjectives & adverbs, questions
Home or cinema â How do you watch your favourite films? I know many people who love animated or romantic films, but for me, there is nothing better than an amazing drama or adventure movie like âIndiana Jonesâ because Iâm a big fan of stories with a fascinating plot. In my opinion, watching a film at home isnât the same as going to the cinema to enjoy a great movie on a huge screen with popcorn and cola. If it wasnât so expensive, I would go every week. So, if you want to give me some money to go to the cinema more often, or to tell me which you prefer â the cinema or the TV screen, leave a comment.
Introduction
In the PET exam you always have to write an email, but you can choose if you want to write an article or a story.
In an article task you get the topic from a website or magazine and there is some information or questions that you have to write about. Also, your language should normally be between neutral and informal.
>>> Find out how to write an amazing email for PET here. <<<
>>> For great information on PET story writing click here. <<<
What does a typical article task look like?
In every writing task in the PET exam there are a few things you have to analyse before you can start to put your pen to paper.
- What is the situation?
- What do I have to include in my article?
- Who is going to read my article?
It is really important and helpful to answer these question first because you get a lot of useful information so writing the article becomes easier from the beginning.
A typical article task might look like the one below:
Now that we have a task, letâs answer the questions from earlier.
Firstly, your article needs to be about films and secondly, there are two main questions that you have to answer in your text (films you enjoy [1] and if you prefer going to the cinema or watching films at home with reasons [2]).
Last but not least, the readers of the English-language website are the people you write your article for. That means your language should be neutral to informal because it is not for your friends, but neither for your boss or teacher.
In neutral English you can use contractions like âIâmâ or âsheâsâ, phrasal verbs or informal punctuation (e.g. â!â), but no slang words or anything that is not in the dictionary.
How to organise your article
You can always organise your articles in a similar way. This makes it a lot easier for you because you will know how to complete this kind of writing task step by step.
In the last part we saw that there are normally two main questions that you have to cover. In our example the two questions are:
- What kind of films do you enjoy?
- Do you prefer watching them at the cinema or at home? Why?
As there are two main points it is probably a good idea to have two main paragraphs in your article. In addition, you should always have an title and a final sentence so we get to four parts in total :
Final sentence
This works for every article writing task so you can relax and really focus on what you want to say instead of worrying about the structure of your text.
Always make a plan
It happens too often that students have bad writing tasks or make unnecessary mistakes because they just start to write instead of taking just a few minutes to think about their article first.
If you plan your article, you can save a lot of time because you know exactly what the different parts of your text are and what you want to include.
Donât make the same mistake. Plan your writing tasks and be ready.
The different parts of an article
In this part Iâm going to show you examples of the different parts of a PET article. As I said before, every article uses a similar structure so you just have to adapt it to the topic of your specific task.
Look at the task again and remember what we have to do. With this in mind, are you ready?
Every good article has a title . When you read a newspaper, magazine or website you always find titles (and sometimes even subheadings) at the top of an article.
Try to make the title interesting so the reader wants to see what you have to say. For example, in our task from earlier we could choose one of the following ideas:
- Films I like (and how I watch them)
- How to best watch the films you love
- Home or cinema â How do you watch your favourite films?
You can see that the topic is clear and it creates some interest for the reader. However, donât feel stressed. If you just use the title âFilmsâ, you wonât lose any marks . It is more important to give your article some kind of title.
Main paragraphs
The main paragraphs are the most important pieces of your article and you should always think about these two things:
- Does the paragraph talk about about one of the main questions in the task?
- Do I use good language (neutral/informal, linking words, good grammar and interesting vocabulary)?
One of the most important things in the PET Writing exam is that you have to answer the questions in the task very clearly. Donât talk about things that are unrelated, but focus on the topic . An example for one of the main paragraphs could look like this:
I know many people who love animated or romantic films, but for me, there is nothing better than an amazing drama or adventure movie like âIndiana Jonesâ because Iâm a big fan of stories with a fascinating plot. In my opinion, watching a film at home isnât the same as going to the cinema to enjoy a great movie on a huge screen with popcorn and cola. If it wasnât so expensive, I would go every week.
You can see that I answered the question about what films I enjoy. I only focused on the question and gave some examples .
In the first paragraph I talk about film genres (animated, romantic, drama, adventure) as well as one specific film (Indiana Jones). I also tried to include some interesting grammar (I know many people whoâŚ, nothing better than) and vocabulary (amazing drama, Iâm a big fan ofâŚ, fascinating plot). On top of that, I used different linking words to connect my ideas (who, but, because).
In the second paragraph I say how I prefer watching a film (going to the cinema) and I explain why (huge screen, popcorn and cola). I also included a conditional sentence for good grammar (If it wasnât so expensive, I would go every week.).
This sounds like a lot of information, but is you practise regularly, it will become easier and easier for you to do the same.
As soon as you finish your main paragraphs, you should end your article with a nice final sentence. It can be a little bit funny or surprising, but you can also just summarise your article. Remember, the more interesting your article is, the better it is for your marks .
So, if you want to give me some money to go to the cinema more often, or to tell me which you prefer â the cinema or the TV screen, leave a comment.
In my final sentence I try to be funny (Iâm not a very good comedian đ ) and I speak directly to the reader . This is a good way of making your article more interesting because the reader feels as if they are part of the text.
Before we finish this post, think about the other parts of B1 Preliminary as well. Apart from Writing, one of the most difficult papers is Reading. I have written posts for each task and I definitely recommend having a look at them too. Just check the pictures below.
Start to practise today
Donât wait until the last minute to practise your writing skills. Start today and practise as much as you can. Use the information in this article to help you improve yours.
Please feel free to leave a comment and let me know what you think about writing articles.
Lots of love,
Teacher Phill đ

Essay on My Pet Dog for Students and Children
500+ Words Essay on My Pet Dog
Pets are a great blessing in anyoneâs life. They are the only ones who love us unconditionally. Pets always offer us everything they have without asking for anything in return. The main aim of any petâs life is to make their owner happy. Nowadays, even the term âownerâ is changing. People prefer their pets as kids and to themselves as parents. This is how the relationship between pets is evolving. People treat them no less than humans. For instance, they celebrate their birthdays; get those matching outfits and more.
In my opinion, I feel the pets rightly deserve it. The most common pet you can find at anyoneâs place is dogs. A manâs best friend and the most faithful animal, a dog. I also have a pet dog that I love to bits. We got him when he was a little baby and have watched him grow into a beautiful dog. All my family members love him with all their heart. We love his silly antics and cannot imagine our lives without him. We named him Sasha.
Sasha – My Pet Dog
My father adopted Sasha when he was a little baby. His friend had given birth to puppies and they decided to put the puppies up for adoption. We convinced our father to get one for us. Considering they knew our family well, they immediately agreed. Little did we know that our lives would change forever after his entrance.
Sasha came in like a blessing for our family. He belongs to the breed of Labrador. Sasha was black in colour, pure coal black. He came in as a puppy with his cute little paws and eyes. We couldnât stop gushing over this beauty. My siblings used to fight with each other as to who will get the maximum time to play with Sasha.

As and when Sasha grew up, he learned various tricks. We trained him to follow our instructions and he even learned a few tricks. We loved showing him off to our colony friends and relatives. I always took Sasha out with me as he loved taking a walk on the road.
Furthermore, my siblings and I took on the responsibility of keeping Sasha clean. Every week, we took turns to bathe him and brush him nicely. I remember I even got a bow for him from my pocket money. Sasha loved it and wagged his tail in excitement. Sasha has been with us through thick and thin and we will forever be indebted to him for his loyalty.

A Changed Life
Before having a pet dog, we didnât know what all we would experience. After Sasha came into our lives, he changed it forever. Sasha changed the meaning of loyalty for us. We learned how this faithful animal always worked for our happiness and safety.
Certainly, Sasha made us better human beings. We are now more compassionate towards animals. There was one instance where the stray dogs were going to harm a kitten, and to our surprise, Sasha saved that little kitten and got her home.
In other words, we have learned a lot of things from Sasha. He protected us when we slept at night. He tried to cheer us up whenever anyone of us was sad. Sashaâs obedience inspired me a lot to be kind to my parents. Therefore, all the credit for changing our lives goes to Sasha.
Q.1 What are some common pet animals?
A.1 Some of the most common pet animals are dogs, cats, parrots, hamsters, rabbits, turtles and more.
Q.2 Why should one own a pet dog?
A.2 We can learn a great deal from our pet dogs. They teach us loyalty, compassion, courage, and obedience.

Essay on My Pet in 150 words
I have a pet dog and his name is Chandler. He is named after my favourite â Friends â character and has been with us for the last nine months. His colour is golden and his tail is bushy as he is a golden retriever. Chandler is very energetic and likes to play a lot with all of us. He runs extremely fast when chasing cats. He is very playful. We take good care of his diet. I give him foods like eggs, meat, fish, bread, rice, etc. Whenever I return from school, he wags his tail in joy and jumps and hops all around me as if celebrating. Chandler knows everybody in our family and whenever he sees a new person, he barks at them, but he is sweet and does not bite anyone. He is very intelligent as well and gives us handshakes with his paws. He understands whatever we tell, and on command, he sits and rolls over too. He is an essential part of our family and we all love him very much.

Essay on My Pet in 250 words
My pet dog is a Golden Retriever and his name is Cheddar. He is named after a dog seen on the famous sitcom âBrooklyn 99â. Cheddar is a very energetic and playful dog. He likes to go on walks a lot and play with frisbees and balls. My dad brought him home a year ago. Although I somewhat wanted a cat, now I love him the most. Bella, my sister is crazy about dogs, she wanted a dog since time immemorial. At first, our mother was sceptical about getting a pet, but now Cheddar is her favourite. She treats him just like the way she treats us.
My sister is particular about his timely vaccinations, eating habits, cleanliness, etc. She bathes him twice a week and every evening, we take him out for a stroll in the neighbourhood as well as the park. As mentioned before, Cheddar is quite active. Hence, we play with him in the park a lot. We throw a ball or a frisbee and play a game of fetch with him. He likes to roll in the leaves and it is fun to watch him do so. Along with being active, Cheddar is smart as well. At home, when his food is served, as long as we donât say the word âgoâ he patiently waits. On command, he jumps and shakes hands with us using his paw. When told, he can roll over too. He amuses us with his daily fetching of random things like slippers, or one of his toys. We love him with all our heart and he has become an essential member of our family.

My petâs name is Mario. He is a two-year-old German Shepherd. I was in 6th grade when my father brought Mario home when he was just 45 days old. His cute little face was so fluffy I could just hug and kiss him all day. I bought a soccer ball, with which he and I used to play all day long. Being in school, I used to think about what is he doing right now or today Iâll take him for a walk to the park, where we will play soccer, etc.
His unconditional love has always been there as a stress reliever. His loyalty, unwavering support and companionship have been with me in my good and bad times. Now that he is an adult, I have taken all his responsibilities like feeding him, bathing him, taking him for walks, etc.
Mario once fell ill due to a cold, and whatever he was eating, he was not able to digest it. I got s worried that I took him to the vet, where he was given a penicillin shot as an antibiotic treatment. I was so scared that I held him with my hands and he was lying there, unconscious. Two hours later, he gained his consciousness and started licking my face. All my sorrow and sadness vanished away in a second, seeing his beautiful eyes and fluffy tail wavering all over the table.
Now that he is completely healthy, I take him for his walks every day, where he is always filled with excitement to explore the other world. As a loyal friend, my dog, Mario, has never demanded anything except for 3 times of meals and a walk. Whether it’s a game of fetch in the backyard or a stroll in the park, every shared moment is a treasure that adds richness to my life.

Both cats and dogs make wonderful pets, each offering unique qualities that appeal to different people. Cats are generally more independent animals. Dogs are social animals that thrive on companionship. They usually need more attention, exercise, and social interaction.
Dogs are known as the best friends of humans because they bring loyalty, joyous moments, unconditional love and life-teaching lessons. Some of the best dog breeds for domestication are German Shepherd, Siberian Huskey, Golden Retriever, Labrador, Beagle and Boxer.

250 Words Essay on Having a Pet
The companionship of pets.
Pets have long been regarded as manâs best friend, providing companionship, loyalty, and emotional support. They are not just animals, but rather an integral part of our lives, enriching our experiences and teaching us about empathy, responsibility, and unconditional love.
Psychological Benefits
Research has indicated that having a pet can significantly reduce stress levels and improve mental health. The simple act of petting an animal can trigger the release of endorphins, creating a sense of calm and happiness. Furthermore, pets can alleviate feelings of loneliness, providing a sense of purpose and companionship.
Physical Health and Well-being
Pets, particularly dogs, require regular exercise, which inadvertently encourages their owners to lead more active lifestyles. This can result in improved cardiovascular health, reduced obesity rates, and overall better physical health.
Teaching Responsibility and Empathy
Having a pet is a long-term commitment that requires responsibility. Feeding, grooming, and caring for a pet can teach individuals, especially young adults, about responsibility. Moreover, pets can help develop empathy as we learn to understand and cater to their needs.
In essence, having a pet is a rewarding experience that offers numerous benefits. It is a relationship that goes beyond the physical realm, touching upon emotional and psychological aspects. Despite the challenges and responsibilities that come with pet ownership, the invaluable lessons and companionship they offer make it a worthwhile endeavor.
500 Words Essay on Having a Pet
The joy and responsibility of having a pet.
Pets, in many ways, can be considered as an extension of our family. They provide companionship, emotional support, and can even contribute to improved physical health. However, owning a pet also comes with significant responsibilities and potential challenges.
The Psychological Benefits of Pet Ownership
The psychological benefits of having a pet are well-documented. Research indicates that pets can help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. Their constant companionship can alleviate feelings of loneliness and isolation, fostering a sense of belonging and purpose. For instance, the act of petting a dog or a cat has been shown to release oxytocin, a hormone associated with stress reduction and mood enhancement.
Physical Health Advantages
Beyond mental health, pets also contribute to physical health. Regular walks with a dog, for example, promote cardiovascular health and fitness. Pets can also help their owners maintain a regular sleep schedule, as they typically require feeding, exercise, and bathroom breaks at consistent times.
Life Skills Acquired
Owning a pet can also impart valuable life skills, particularly for young adults. The responsibility of caring for another living being can foster empathy, compassion, and responsibility. It also provides an opportunity to learn about the cycle of life and death, helping to develop emotional resilience.
The Challenges of Pet Ownership
Despite these benefits, pet ownership is not without its challenges. The financial costs can be significant, encompassing food, veterinary care, grooming, and potential property damage. Pets also require time and attention, which can be difficult for busy individuals or families. Moreover, pets can limit spontaneity, as their needs often require planning and cannot be easily delegated.
Choosing the Right Pet
Choosing the right pet is a crucial step in ensuring a positive pet ownership experience. This decision should be based on lifestyle, living situation, financial capability, and personal preference. For example, a dog may be a poor choice for someone with a busy schedule or limited living space, while a cat or a fish may be a more suitable option.
In conclusion, owning a pet can be a rewarding experience, offering numerous psychological and physical health benefits. However, it is not a decision to be taken lightly, as pets require significant time, attention, and financial resources. Prospective pet owners should carefully consider their lifestyle and capabilities before welcoming a pet into their home. Ultimately, the joy and companionship pets offer can greatly enrich our lives, making the challenges worthwhile.

How to write an article? | B1 Preliminary (PET)
An article that you’ll have to write is for publication in a magazine or website . So, like most articles in magazines it must be entertaining and informative,  therefore , you need to keep your reader engaged and interested from start to finish!
There will also be some kind of questions for you to answer. Below you can see a sample exam task:
Check our Writing Guide below – to see how to write an article in detail.
B1 Preliminary (PET) Article: Structure
Any article in the B1 Preliminary (PET) exam can be broken up into four parts:
FCE, CAE, PET
Practice, write & improve, b1 preliminary (pet) article: writing guide.
We will use this example exam task :
You see this notice on an English-language website
Write your article .
Step 1: Analyse your task quickly
Task analysis is very simple. All you have to do is two things:
Firstly , find the questions you have to answer in your task.
Secondly , find the topic of the article (which in this example is Films & Cinema)
So, now you need to brainstorm all the vocabulary that you can think of related to films.Â
For example: animated, romantic films, a big fan, drama, adventure movies, popcorn, screen, NetflixÂ
If you prepare some words in advance, it will be much easier for you to write an article!
Step 2: Add a Title
Every excellent article starts with a good title , Â don’t worry though it doesn’t have to be super special or super interesting. It is okay if your title is simple and just gives a general idea of what the article is about.
Here you can see three examples of a title
Home cinema or the big screen?
How to best watch the films you love?
Home or cinema â How do you watch your favourite films?Â
As you can see two titles started with how … – how – to articles are just very popular so it is good idea to use that form for your title.
Practice Tests Online
Step 3: introduction.
The role of the introduction is mainly to catch the reader’s attention , it can be done in the simplest way by asking a question. Why this way is good? Because at the same time, you will show the examiners that you can use the p resent perfect tense.
Here you can see example introduction
Have you ever screamed (present perfect) during a horror film? Or have you watched (present perfect) a comedy and laughed until you cry?
Step 4: Body (answering the questions)
Here you answer the main questions that we identified in Step 1.
- What kind of films do you enjoy?
- Do you prefer watching them at the cinema or at home? Why?
Remember these paragraphs should be the longest in your text and they should contain most of the information.
Also, we use the vocabulary that we prepared earlier in Step 1.
animated, romantic films, a big fan, drama, adventure movies, popcorn, screen, NetflixÂ
See the example answer below, with additional annotations you may find useful:
I know many people who love animated or romantic films , but for me, there is nothing better than an amazing drama or adventure movie (answer 1) like âIndiana Jonesâ because I’m a big fan of stories with fascinating plot.Â
In my opinion, watching a film at home isnât the same a s going to the cinema (answer 2) to enjoy a great movie on a huge screen with popcorn and cola . (answer 2) If it wasn’t so expensive, I would go every week.
         – vocabulary related to topic of films/cinema
          – interesting grammar
Step 5: Final sentence
Finish your article with a nice final sentence. It doesn’t have to be anything special you can simply summarize your article or you can also try to be a little bit funny or end in a more surprising way.
Everybody loves films, I think you can enjoy them anywhere, even if not at the cinema, it’s still Netflix!
Remember: the more interesting your article is the higher your marks might get!

Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury takeaways: Usyk writing his own history; expect a different Fury in rematch
The first undisputed heavyweight title fight in 25 years did not disappoint when these two future hall of famers linked up.
For the first time in the four-belt era, the undisputed heavyweight boxing championship was at stake on Saturday as Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury put on an instant classic in Saudi Arabia.Â
Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) rallied in the second half to floor Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) and nearly stop him in Round 9 before hanging on for a split-decision victory to add the WBC and lineal titles to his WBA, WBO and IBF belts.Â
As we await the contractually mandated rematch that will likely take place this fall, let's take a closer look at the biggest takeaways from an incredible "Ring of Fire" pay-per-view card from Kingdom Arena in Riyadh.Â
1. Despite "Fight of the Century" tag, this somehow exceeded expectations
Talk about the right fight at the right time. Boxing was already trending upwards in an aggressive way following an incredible 2023. But that momentum has only continued into the new year in a big way thanks, in large part, to the continued financial investment from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which has made so many fantasy matchups possible. When it's done right, there is nothing else in professional sports quite like heavyweight championship boxing. It's just different. It can create boxing fans for life, almost instantaneously, by captivating the viewer with a courageous display of controlled violence. And Usyk joined Fury in combining to co-author a thrilling spectacle that not only will demand the attention of the sporting world when they meet again later this year, it showcased just about everything that's great about this disorganized and unpredictable sport. The adjustments made by both future Hall of Famers were brilliant as the momentum changed hands multiple times in a fight which, from a scoring standpoint, literally could have gone either way. Everything about this fight triggered nothing but exciting and nostalgic feelings about the way things used to be. Don't look now but boxing is back. In a big way.Â
2. Usyk never fought like the smaller man
Most experts predicted a 12-round chess match between these highly skilled big men while others thought Fury's size and power would be too much. The mid-fight adjustments made by the 6-foot-9 "Gypsy King" seemed to suggest the latter was inevitable as Fury repeatedly hurt Usyk with right hands, body shots and an uppercut from deep that couldn't miss. But despite giving up six inches in height, seven inches in reach and nearly 40 pounds on the scales to Fury, few could've predicted just how gutsy the second-half surge from Usyk would truly be. Usyk repeatedly pushed the pace and cornered Fury with ease, but it wasn't until Round 9 that the true breakthrough moment of the fight truly took place. Even though he's not known for having big power, the investment of outworking Fury and repeatedly targeting the body helped him fatigue his opponent just enough to uncork a series of clean power shots that placed Fury on the verge of peril. Referee Mark Nelson was generous in letting Fury wobble from pillar to post as Usyk went for the finish. And Fury was saved by the bell after the ropes held him up (which was rightfully ruled a knockdown) but Usyk simply ran out of time to close the round. Despite heading to the hospital immediately after the fight with a broken jaw , Usyk fought bigger throughout and constantly backed his bigger opponent up. He may have gotten to this point on footwork and sublime skill, but it took the true heart of a champion for Usyk to nearly slay the division's true giant.

3. Expect a heavier (and dirtier) Tyson Fury in the rematch
Fury, who came in at his lowest weight in five years at 262 pounds, found out the hard way the same thing that Anthony Joshua previously learned twice: there isn't another heavyweight out there who can outbox Uysk over the 12-round distance. Fury certainly came close, of course, in this meeting between the two, clear-cut best heavyweights of this renaissance era. But Fury and his team will no doubt be kicking themselves upon rewatching the fight for how easily the smaller Usyk was able to repeatedly corner and back Fury up while relying on constant output to tire him and lower his volume. Usyk both attempted and landed more punches than Fury in each of the last five rounds to take home the disputed decision (while landing the most punches of any Fury opponent, 170, in fights tracked by CompuBox). At 35, Fury may be two years younger than Usyk but the physical toll accrued upon him as a professional has been much more considering Usyk's defensive style and the fact that he turned pro late after a long (and successful) amateur career that culminated in a 2012 Olympic gold medal. That's not to say that Fury is washed or over the hill. But given the scare he survived against former UFC champion Francis Ngannou last fall, Fury appears closer to the end than he does his absolute prime. And Fury's father, former heavyweight boxer "Gypsy" John Fury, has also long maintained that his son is a better and more dangerous fighter the heavier he is. Look for Fury to bulk up and adopt a more bullying style in the rematch aimed at leaning on and mauling Usyk in the clinch to tire his quicker-footed opponent out. Fury is also at his best when he's flirting with breaking the rules as his overly competitive and survival instincts tend to take over. The more Fury can lean on his physical advantages and force Usyk into more of a fight than a boxing match, the results could be different the second time around.Â

4. Usyk's undisputed reign won't last more than a few weeks
No, sadly, that isn't a typo. For all the great things boxing has done of late, including staging an undisputed heavyweight title fight for the first time in 25 years, there's still enough politics and bureaucracy within the sport to cause more than a few headaches. Both boxing and Usyk can enjoy the fact that the sport's most important division finally has one name and one face as its champion, but the multiple delays that caused this fight to take so long to happen also came at a price. Filip Hrgovic, the mandatory opponent for Usyk's IBF title, has already twice accepted step-aside money to prolong his right to cash in on the title shot. But the unbeaten native of Croatia has decided he will wait no longer. With Usyk and Fury likely headed toward a contractually obligated rematch, Usyk will be stripped of his title on June 1 when Hrgovic returns in Saudi Arabia to face Daniel Dubois for the vacant title. The winner is expected to fight Anthony Joshua later this year, which means an all-new run toward fully unifying the four titles will need to take place. This may feel like a one step forward, two steps back scenario for the sport after the high of Usyk's win (mostly, because it is). But it will raise the stakes once the winner of Usyk-Fury II, in theory, takes on the winner of Hrgovic/Dubois-Joshua in 2025 for the newly undisputed crown.Â
5. Usyk is on his way to writing his own chapter in boxing history
The native of Ukraine will likely need a second victory over Fury to truly stand out on his own as the face of this resurgent heavyweight era. But considering everything else he has accomplished to get to this point -- from Olympic gold to becoming the first four-belt undisputed cruiserweight champion in boxing history six years ago, it's safe to say Usyk is on his way to authoring quite a unique legacy. As the smallest of the elite competitors in this super heavyweight era, Usyk has proven to be a giant among giant men. And considering many already see him as the greatest cruiserweight the sport has ever seen, after running through the division's deepest pool in decades to capture the World Boxing Super Series tournament, adding the title of best heavyweight of this century (alongside countryman Wladimir Klitshcko) is no small task. Usyk is as mentally tough as any boxer in years and fights for much more than money or fame as he proudly represents his home country at every turn. He even paused his career for a full year beginning in late 2022 to join soldiers on the frontlines in Ukraine during the ongoing war with Russia. Usyk is both wholesome and hilarious in how he carries himself and remains an incredible ambassador to the sport at large. And even though history will likely point to names like Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao and Canelo Alvarez as the faces of the sport over the past two decades, Uysk's pound-for-pound accomplishments belong right up there with any of them.Â
