Plot Twist Babe!!

I really enjoyed the way the author wrote this story depicting the struggles a husband (hero - Levi) and wife (heroine - Kelly) go through when faced with a traumatic experience, as well as other "normal" day-to-day experiences raising a family.  I also loved the (biggest) plot twist. It came as such a surprise! The fact that there was a ton of action (in and out of the bed) held my interest from start to end.  This sure is one bad a$$ family - from a sh0tgun slinging grandmother to a heroic pet.  I am totally in love with this series. As for the narration part - Troy Duran did a spectacular job as Levi. Although with a voice like that, let's face it, he could probably make reading the phonebook sound hot 😍. But seriously, he convincingly carried over Levi's emotions throughout the book, in addition to the other characters. Unfortunately I felt that the female narrator, Callie Dalton (Kelly) tended to speak with a "nasally" tone at times. I found this quite odd as she didn't do it constantly and mostly only when speaking as Kelly during the dialogue parts (when it was Kelly's thoughts/inner dialogue, voices for other characters and/or using her male voice, it was actually quite impeccable). So for the above reasons, I give this audiobook a solid 4.5 star rating overall (story 5 and narration 4).

Shaunie Henderson is finally experiencing real romantic love for the first time. The ex-wife of NBA great Shaquille O’Neal opens up about her first marriage in a new interview on the “Tamron Hall” show, where she dives into the making of her debut memoir, “Undefeated: Changing the Rules and Winning on My Own Terms.”

The book gives a more unedited look into her life, wins and losses, than fans who have watched her throughout various seasons of the “Basketball Wives” franchise, a show she created and executive produced, have seen on TV.

During her May 7 sit-down with host Tamron Hall, the entrepreneur reveals that witnessing the emotional turmoil of her parents’ marriage significantly impacted how she coped with disappointments for nearly a decade as the wife of the four-time NBA champion. 

Her parents had been married for 54 years when her father passed away in March 2022. “You wrote, ‘Growing up as a child, there was infidelity,’ on your dad’s part, and your mom could not forgive him for what he’d done but stayed in the marriage,” said Hall. “That leads you to a pattern, which you write about, in your own marriage — in your marriage to Shaq for seven years,” she added as the mother of five.

In the book, she wrote, “I’m not proud of the fact that I spent so many years in denial. It shows how easy it is to slip into patterns and become comfortable with them, even when they’re toxic.”

The newly minted author told Hall, “I own my space. I own my decisions. I own the fact that I was in complete denial and saw things right in front of me, but just like, I was protecting myself. I was protecting my kids. I have this family, right, I didn’t want to be a failure. To me, losing my marriage was failing.”

After seven years of marriage, Henderson filed for divorce in 2009 amid various reports that he had been unfaithful. Their separation was finalized two years later. In hindsight, she wrote that “looking back, I don’t know that I was ever really in love with the man, but I was in love with the idea of being married to the man I had a family with. I was in love with the idea of building a life together.”

Speaking with Hall, she further explained, “I was in love with the partnership that I never got. I didn’t experience partnership in a relationship until now. But you know, Shaquille and I have a great relationship now and beautiful children. I would not change any part of my story, not one part of my story, no matter how depressed, how sad…how much of at the bottom I felt. I would not change one part of it because I feel like my reward is now.”

Shaq caught wind of Shaunie’s interview, and he doesn’t blame her to speaking her truth.

“I understand … I wouldn’t have been in love with me either. Wishing you all the best. All love, Shaq.”

In his own words, O’Neal said he “was a d**khead” and that “you don’t know how good you got something till it’s gone” in a 2021 interview with People.

Last year, he said his ex-wife was “the perfect one” he let get away, placing the blame for their failed marriage on himself and his immature ways. The friendly exes are now co-parents to their five children, including Shaunie’s eldest son, Myles Baptiste, whom he adopted as his own.

Henderson remarried in May 2022 to The Lighthouse Church lead Pastor Keion Henderson after three years together. Their blended family now includes his daughter, Katelyn, from a previous relationship.

Shaquille O'Neal on ex-wife saying she wasn't in love with him: 'Trust me, I get it'

The ex-wife of Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal published a memoir detailing their marriage.

In the book Undefeated:  Changing the Rules and Winning on My Own Terms , which was published on May 7, Shaunie Henderson says she isn't sure she was in love with the four-time NBA champion.

Henderson and O'Neal were married in 2002 and have four children together.

"Looking back, I don't know that I was ever really in love with the man," Henderson writes. "But I was in love with the idea of being married to the man I had a family with. I was in love with the idea of building a life together. I truly did enjoy spending time with him. [NBA] road trips gave me a chance to be with my husband and experience the NBA life for a little while."

She added that O'Neal "was trying to be a world-famous, thirty-something multimillionaire with thousands of women throwing themselves at him," and a husband and father at the same time.

The couple divorced in 2011.

"I enjoyed those sweet early years being a mother and raising my children; my days were always busy with kids and family, and every now and then I got to travel or enjoy a little of the NBA high life. But invisibly, my marriage was beginning to crumble," Henderson wrote.

The day after the book was released, O'Neal, now an analyst with Turner Sports, took to social media and responded to what Henderson said with the caption, "Trust me, I get it."

O'Neal has said he messed up the relationship by cheating on his wife.

"I understand...I wouldn’t have been in love with me either. Wishing you all the best. All love, Shaq," he wrote on Instagram .

Shaquille O'Neal's Ex-Wife Shaunie Says She's Not Sure She Ever Loved Him — and He Says 'I Understand'

The basketball legend seemingly responded to ex-wife Shaunie Henderson one day after her memoir was released

Shaquille O'Neal shared a somber message on Instagram after the release of his ex-wife Shaunie Henderson's memoir, in which the Basketball Wives star questioned if she was ever really in love with the former NBA player.

In her memoir, UNDEFEATED :  Changing the Rules and Winning on My Own Terms ,  released on May 7, Henderson, 49, writes, "Looking back, I don't know that I was ever really in love with the man," of O'Neal, whom she married in 2002.

Over the course of their relationship, which began in the late 90s and ultimately ended in 2009 when Henderson filed for separation, the couple struggled with infidelity, which O'Neal admitted to in his 2011 memoir,  Shaq Uncut: My Story.

Henderson explained in her memoir that she "was in love with the idea of being married to the man I had a family with," and "was in love with the idea of building a life together," during their marriage.

O'Neal and Henderson share four children: sons Shareef and Shaqir and daughters Amirah and Me'arah. They also both parent son Myles, from Henderson's previous relationship, and O'Neal has a daughter, Taahirah, with his former girlfriend Arnetta Yardbourgh.

The reality star shared that she "truly did enjoy spending time with" O'Neal, but because he was "trying to be a world-famous, thirty-something multimillionaire with thousands of women throwing themselves at him," at the same time he was "being a husband and a father," their relationship ultimately dissolved.

On May 8, O'Neal took to Instagram to share a seemingly pointed message in response to Henderson. "I understand...I wouldn’t have been in love with me either. Wishing you all the best. All love, Shaq," he wrote in white text over a black screen.

O'Neal captioned the post, "Trust me I get it."

The post received an outpour of support for O'Neal in the comments, including thoughtful messages from his and Henderson's son Shareef.

Shareef, 24, wrote, "Love you man! You saved my life," in one comment. In another, Shareef said, "Literally the most lovable and likable person on the planet!"

Black-ish creator Kenya Barris wrote, "Class Act," in the comments, while television host Tamron Hall left a red heart emoji on the post and rapper Rick Ross commented a "100" emoji.

When Henderson announced her memoir in January, she told PEOPLE she was "nervous" to divulge details of her relationship with the NBA legend, but felt like she needed to clarify the public's "misconception" of her.

"I always had a fear of sharing too much and of telling my story that involved anybody else," Henderson shared. "I didn't want to disrespect someone else's story, even if it was a part of mine, but as I get older and do more things in the entertainment industry, I found that people have a misconception of who I am."

Now married to Pastor Keion Henderson, the mother-of-five explained, "Anything involving Shaquille is always a sketchy thing because he is who he is, and despite what our story is, no one ever wants to hear what could come across as not the greatest reputation.

Henderson told PEOPLE that her ex-husband having publicly admitted to his infidelity during their marriage "made it easier" for her to open up in Undefeated. "I was like, oh, okay, he told on himself," she said.

"I'm literally telling my story and my journey, which he was a part of," she continued. "So I've always been a little nervous about that, but I think I did a good job at sharing my story without destroying him because that's not my intent at all, ever."

Specific images of the Holocaust have endlessly punctuated the film and TV landscape: The barbed wire of a concentration camp. Naked bodies rendered to skin and bone, tossed in discarded piles. Gleeful abuse and random killings by evil Nazis. Hollywood has repeatedly ingrained that imagery when presenting this horrific time in history, so to continue conjuring it adds to the collective trauma of an entire people.

Yet all these displays and more are the Sky Studios and Peacock co-production “ The Tattooist of Auschwitz .” That makes it a challenging show to sit through, let alone binge six episodes of, when the event series drops on Peacock on May 2.

The book, and now the show, tells Lali’s story from his arrival at the camp in 1942 to his escape in 1945. While there, he met a woman named Gita Furman while tattooing an identification number into her flesh. It was love at first sight, and the pair found ways to communicate and meet while at the camp. Eventually, after many close calls and gruesome encounters, Furman also escaped. The two reunited, married, moved to Australia and had a son. 

The gist of the story happened in real life, but the book was published as fiction. Still, historians and scholars questioned the details, claiming the book contains misrepresentations and errors. Some of the big ones were the description of the camp and its layout, the train route characters took, and the number Sokolov tattooed onto his eventual wife’s arm. For her part, Morris maintains she wrote a work of fiction and told Sokolov’s version of events, not the version of events that happened.

Even with the best intentions of showing the perseverance of the human spirit and how love finds a way, these were highly upsetting events that led to massive generational trauma. It’s essential to know the history and hear the stories, but in recreating those events for a viewing audience, you need to figure out what you’re adding to the landscape that is helpful and not harmful. Over six episodes, “The Tattooist of Auschwitz” does both.

Director and co-executive producer Tali Shalom-Ezer and the rest of the crew attempted to address the book’s criticisms as carefully as possible, hiring consultants and ensuring everyone had access to counseling. They also changed Gita’s number from 34902 (what Lali remembered in the book) to 4562, which Gita confirmed before her death. Story-wise, “The Tattooist of Auschwitz” acknowledges this is a retelling by having an aged Lali (Harvey Keitel) recount his experiences to a first-time author named Heather (Melanie Lynskey).

Through that retelling and flashbacks, viewers meet 25-year-old Lali, played by Jonah Hauer-King. It’s a heavy lift for the actor, whose most recognizable role to-date is Prince Eric in the live-action “The Little Mermaid.” Lali is a complex and haunted character, and Hauer-King throws himself into the role with aplomb. This is a man who ultimately does what it takes to survive, and he internalizes the pain that his involvement and complicity causes to heartbreaking effect.

As a tattooist, Lali inks identification numbers onto prisoners’ arms to take advantage of the better sleeping arrangements and more food. But he apologizes with each prick of the needle and later shares those extra rations with fellow prisoners. In small ways, he gives back, trying to balance the scales.

It’s fathomable that Lali’s position would grant him certain advantages, but the general tolerance he receives is inconsistent compared to the treatment of those around him. He’s able to fight back and question guards without significant repercussions, all while those same guards are quick to shoot others in the head for stumbling or using the latrine at night. 

Lali’s ability to maneuver around the camp also separates him from others. He evades guards and bribes others to visit the eternal optimist Gita (played by Anna Próchniak with a memorable spark in her eye). In one scene, Lali interacts at Auschwitz with Dr. Schumann, selling a piece of his soul in exchange for an antibacterial that will save Gita’s life. (This scene in the book drew criticism: Gita was given penicillin, which wasn’t widely available at the time. The series has corrected this anachronism.)

What’s harder to watch are the random acts of violence shown in full detail: Men picked off in front of a firing squad. A woman shot in the head after begging for help. Lali called in to identify two bodies, and the guards joking he was the only Jew to ever walk out of the chamber alive. Sick, naked women shoved outside to freeze overnight and free up the beds. “The Tattooist of Auschwitz”is full of such unnecessarily harrowing moments.

They’re enough to make the present-day narrative breaks a needed reprieve. That mental load is mirrored onscreen as Heather grapples with secondary trauma from what she’s learning. Meanwhile, the series also uses those moments to address historical inaccuracies and Lali’s ability to remember correctly. Lali is haunted by the ghosts of his past and frequently interacts with them, sometimes in Heather’s presence. There are also hints that he may sometimes be embellishing to forgive himself for participating in it all.

The idea is that the truth lies somewhere between recollection and reality, and one man’s experience isn’t necessarily universal. Knowing and sharing his story is important, but with the appropriate context. At the end of the day, “The Tattooist of Auschwitz” puts the dichotomy of the human spirit on full display, showing the possibility of love and the unimaginable monstrosity that hatred can bring.

Or at least it does if you can watch it all the way through.

Brittney Griner Told Wife She Could Get a Divorce After Receiving Nine-Year Sentence: ‘How Can I Ask Her to Wait?’

In her new memoir, 'Coming Home,' Griner detailed her nine-year sentence in a Russian labor camp and fears that her wife would want to divorce.

While the support of Brittney Griner 's wife, lawyer Cherelle , kept the Phoenix Mercury star lifted during her time in a Russian labor camp, she almost thought that the two would divorce.

In her new memoir, Coming Home , Griner recounted fears about her wife wanting to leave the relationship, as Griner was sentenced to nine years before she was released in a prison exchange in December 2022. In an excerpt of the book, exclusively shared by People , Griner imagined that while detained, she'd lose opportunities and that her wife, whom she affectionately refers to as "Relle," would have wanted to end the marriage.

"My basketball career would be over. I’d be in my early forties and out of shape, would have to find a new way to provide for my wife. And Relle. She assured me she’d wait, but ten years was ridiculous," Griner wrote.

"I went through so many emotions being locked up, and just thinking about nine years,” she continued. “We planned on having kids, and doing all these amazing things together, and now I'm thinking, ‘Is that going to happen? How can I ask her to wait?’"

After receiving the guilty verdict, Griner even gave Cherelle permission to seek a divorce, which her wife rebuffed. "I gave her an out," Griner explained. "But she was basically like,  ‘What ? Stop it. Don’t you ever say that.’"

"It was just emotion,” she continued. “I got scared for a minute. When you’re in that predicament, the first thing that comes to mind is not good. You see women get those [goodbye] letters [in prison] and break down in tears."

Cherelle remained in Griner's corner, advocating for her release in 2022 with the help of President Joe Biden , who oversaw the prison swap.

Mika Zibanejad’s playoff run is reaching historic proportions.

The Rangers’ superstar notched his 12th point in seven playoff games on Thursday night when he assisted Chris Kreider’s shorthanded goal in the second period that ties the game at one.

That tied a club record for the most points at this stage of the postseason.

He also has points in each of the Rangers’ games to open the postseason, with his seven-game point streak tying teammate Adam Fox and Alexei Kovalev’s 1994 run for the franchise’s fourth-longest streak to open the playoffs — behind just Mark Messier (13 games in 1994), Brian Leetch (9 games in 1994) and Ron Duguay (8 games in 1981).

The franchise playoff record for points in the postseason is held by Leetch, with 34 in 1993-94.

However, Zibanejad already holds the record for most points in a single postseason in a year where the Rangers did not make the Cup Final, with 24 two seasons ago.

Thursday marked Zibanejad’s ninth assist of this postseason to go with three goals.

In the second round so far, he has been near-unstoppable, with a starring performance in Game 1 that included two goals.

Zibanejad helped make the shorthanded goal happen on Thursday by taking the puck off Brent Burns and moving up ice before laying off  a pass to Kreider for the finish. 

While the run of play had gone against the Rangers to that point in the night, the goal tied the score at one and provided a much-needed break in Carolina’s momentum for the Rangers.
