Call them. They have a us number. When I flew them a couple years ago that's how I got seats.

I did exactly the same to change my seats (my company agent gave me not very good ones). Note that although it's an 800 number you deal with Korea based agents, and their English isn't great. But if you're patient, polite and explain clearly what you need, they'll understand and be very helpful.

I'm looking forward to flying with them...reviews are very good and as it's a 22 hr day of flying any creature comfort is great!

Their seats are a main reason I booked with them this time....I fly over to Asia about every year to visit relatives. Will be nice to have some room.

Check in rules

Asiana Airlines Check-in online or at the airport. Online check-in is available for Asiana Airlines domestic flights from 24 hours to 30 minutes before departure, and for Asiana Airlines international flights from 48 hours to 1 hour before departure. (U.S. destinations (including Saipan) 24 hours before departure). Airport check-in begins 3 hours before departure.

Asiana Airlines luggage size limit is 158 cm (length+width+height). Weight limits: for business class - not more than 32 kg (for two pieces of luggage); for economy class - not more than 23 kg (for two pieces of luggage). If traveling with children/infants, one of the following may be added: portable stroller, walker, car seat, or bassinet. It allowed carry-on baggage dimensions: up to 10 kg, the sum of three sizes up to 115 cm (including handle and wheels).

Unaccompanied minors

Asiana Airlines Service of minor children's companion is available for: international flights - 5-11 years old, domestic flights - 5-12 years old. Reservations for children/infants can only be made on the company website or mobile platform when purchasing a parent or adult ticket for 18 years or older. Children over the age of 12 can travel on their own.

The infant is defined as a child from 7 days old to 2 years old. Infants fly free on Asiana Airlines domestic flights and pay 10% of the adult fare on Asiana Airlines international flights. Infants will not be provided a separate seat (however, a seat will be provided when paying for a child ticket). Passengers traveling with two infants must purchase a child ticket for one of the infants, and a seat will be provided for the infant at the fare paid.

Type of pets allowed for transportation: dogs, cats, poultry. The number of pets allowed: each adult passenger may take one pet in the Asiana Airlines cabin and two pets in the checked baggage. Children are not allowed to travel with pets in the Asiana Airlines cabin. Each passenger may bring in the cabin one pet in 1 kennel (or two puppies or two kittens up to 6 months old). The permissible weight of the container with the pet is 7kg. The maximum size of the container is 115 cm (length+height+width).

Is Southwest going to start assigning seats? CEO says the airline is weighing changes.

Southwest Airlines is considering doing away with open, single-class seating on its aircraft.

In an interview with CNBC , ahead of the airline’s first-quarter earnings call on Thursday, CEO Bob Jordan said the company is weighing options for cabin reconfiguration to address its recent revenue shortfall.

“We’re looking into new initiatives, things like the way we seat and board our aircraft,” Jordan told the network.

Southwest has long differentiated itself from other airlines with one class of seating and little variability – no extra legroom seats or first class on its 737 fleet. But now, Jordan said it may be time to change the strategy.

“Customer preferences do change over time,” he told CNBC. He acknowledged the airline hasn’t made any decisions on implementing a new strategy but said studies about what they could do have yielded “interesting” results. 

For now, the only reliable way for Southwest customers can get their seating preference is to pay extra for an earlier boarding position. Southwest Airlines does not currently assign seats and passengers claim their real estate as they board the plane in an assigned order. 

During Thursday's earnings call, Jordan confirmed the airline was exploring updates to its seating and boarding processes. He also announced Southwest would be ending service to Syracuse, New York; George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston (the airline will still serve William P. Hobby Airport); Cozumel, Mexico and Bellingham, Washington. Jordan cited underperformance in those markets as the reason for their closure.

Arrange your flight to suit you and travel in your preferred seat. You can choose whether you would like to reserve a Classic Seat, an Extra Legroom Seat or a Preferred Zone Seat. Please note the separate rules for booking holiday flights with flight numbers OS 2000-2999, 4000-4999 or 9000-9999.

Classic Seat

Window, aisle or middle: the choice is yours. Reserve your preferred seat category when booking, later under “My bookings” or during online check-in. Seat reservations can be made as early as one year in advance.

Fees for European flights per person and route

1 Price valid for scheduled flight bookings made via austrian.com, Direct Connect, lufthansa.com, swiss.com, airdolomiti.de and lh-group-agent.com. Seat reservations for European flights in Business Class are still free of charge. • Classic Seat reservations on intercontinental routes in Business Class are still free of charge (except Extra Space seats).
• HON Circle Members and Senators have the option of reserving a Classic Seat free of charge for themselves and those travelling with them on the same booking number on flights with Austrian, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa and SWISS. Extra Legroom Seat

Treat yourself to an Extra Legroom Seat on your next flight. These seats are usually located in the emergency exit rows and differ from the front row in that they offer extra legroom.

Fees per person and route

• A confirmed reservation for an Extra Legroom Seat does not entitle you to a specific seat on board the aircraft (e.g. Seat 3A). It only entitles you to a seat in your chosen Extra Legroom Seat category.
• Pregnant women, passengers with small children or animals, passengers under 16 years of age and passengers who do not understand instructions in English or German are not permitted to sit in an emergency exit row.
• HON Circle Members and Senators have the option of reserving an Extra Legroom Seat for themselves and those travelling with them on the same booking number free of charge on flights with Austrian, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa and SWISS. This benefit is subject to availability and does not apply to Economy Light fare bookings on short-haul flights.

Legroom Seat

Enjoy extra legroom in Economy Class. We offer the Legroom Seat on long-haul flights to make your stay on board even more comfortable. These seats are not located by the emergency exits.

Preferred Zone Seat

Travelling with us is even easier and faster, because with a Preferred Zone Seat you can disembark even faster after landing. The preferred seating zone is located in the front section of Economy Class. On long-haul flights this area is behind our Premium Economy passengers and on short- and medium-haul flights behind the Business Class passengers.

• HON Circle Members and Senators have the option of reserving a Preferred Zone Seat for themselves and those travelling with them on the same booking number free of charge on flights with Austrian, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa and SWISS. This benefit is subject to availability and does not apply to Economy Light fare bookings on short-haul flights.

Extra Space Seat in Business Class

Extra Space is a seat with no immediate neighbours by the window and aisle. Enjoy the peace and quiet and work undisturbed or push your seat back and relax. Extra Space Seats are available in Business Class on intercontinental flights with the Boeing 777 aircraft type.

• HON Circle Members and Senators have the option of reserving an Extra Space Seat in Business Class for themselves and those travelling with them on the same booking number free of charge on flights with Austrian, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa and SWISS.
• A confirmed reservation for an Extra Space Seat does not entitle you to a specific seat on board the aircraft (e.g. Seat 3A). It only entitles you to a seat in your chosen Extra Space Seat category.

Free Neighbour Seat

Sometimes a little more space is just what you need. Treat yourself to extra comfort and simply book the seat next to you on continental and intercontinental routes.

Plenty of extra space: book an empty neighbouring seat for even more comfort on your flight

We recommend booking an empty neighbouring seat under the following circumstances:

• if you would like more space for reasons of comfort;
• if you need more than a single seat due to your physical build;
• if you are unable to fold down both armrests; or
• if you can only fasten your seat belt with an extension.

Depending on the booking situation, you can reserve your neighbouring seat and so ensure that this seat is guaranteed to remain unoccupied. Please telephone our Service Centre for details.

Is Southwest about to end its free-for-all seating?

The company says it is ‘very seriously studying’ alternatives to its signature open-seating system.

Southwest Airlines fans know the drill: Check in to your flight exactly 24 hours in advance and secure your spot in line to board the plane. What seat you’ll end up in? That’s a mystery until the last minute.

A puzzle to some and an invigorating challenge to others, Southwest’s unique boarding process and one-class cabin are now under the microscope as the airline looks for ways to prop up its financial performance. In a call with investors Thursday, Southwest CEO Bob Jordan said executives are “very seriously studying” seating and the way passengers board the planes.

“It’s been several years since we last studied this in-depth, and customer preference and expectations change over time,” Jordan said. “We are also studying the operations and financial benefits of any potential change.”

Unlike most airlines, Southwest doesn’t have a premium section on its planes that commands higher fares. Where other carriers might charge extra for a cushy seat in the first few rows or an extra-legroom option near the front, Southwest customers can grab whatever seat is open. A spot near the front won’t come with any additional frills, however.

In a news release announcing quarterly earnings, a conference call discussing those results and an interview with CNBC , representatives said they were taking a deep look at customer preferences around seating and boarding. The current open-seating system was put in place when airliners were generally less full, the company said, noting that preferences change as planes fill up.

“There’s no decision, there’s nothing to report other than we are seriously looking at this,” Jordan said in response to a question about seating. “But early indications both for our customers and for Southwest look pretty darn interesting.”

While Southwest has contemplated the possibility of assigned seating for nearly two decades at least , the review has accelerated over the past six months, the CEO said. Jordan said the company will say more during an event for investors in September. The company has also recently said that it is preparing to add red-eye flights in the next couple of years.

Today, Southwest passengers can pay more to end up in a better seat, even without picking that seat in advance. Upgrades that provide priority boarding and early check-in give customers the first pick of spots. The airline makes “hundreds of millions of dollars” from those upgraded boarding options, executives said last year.

“They’re in kind of a pickle regarding revenue generation, so they’re looking at everything,” said Robert W. Mann, a consultant and former airline executive. “I think what they have seen is that when they’ve tweaked their existing cattle call … they find it to be very lucrative.”

He said that if the airline could deliver a more “pleasant” boarding process, or seat selection for a fee, it would probably be attractive to travelers.

“There’s nothing about their boarding process that they couldn’t improve,” Mann said.

Travel analyst Henry Harteveldt, president of Atmosphere Research Group , said he did research more than a decade ago that found a large number of people avoided Southwest because it did not offer extra-legroom seats, assigned seats or a premium business-class cabin. He said that the airline could make “an enormous amount of money” by adding assigned seating — and that travelers would probably welcome knowing what seat they would end up in.

“I think it could be an incredibly positive thing for the airline, but I recognize that Southwest has a more-than-50-year history of being egalitarian, of having open seating and being different from other airlines,” he said.
