Essay on Science Exhibition in My School feature image

Every year, our school organises our annual Einstein science exhibition. At the exhibition, all of us present our projects which are later judged and win prizes from the chief guest.

Every year the exhibition is divided into different categories and classes are allotted topics to make projects on. For this year the categories were natural disasters, energy, flora & fauna and pollution.

My class got allotted as the team for energy. Our science teacher also selected some of us as her special volunteers and leaders and I was lucky to get selected as my class leader for the special day.

For this year, me and my friends made quite a number of projects. We discussed for a long time and then decided to showcase a model of how the process of solar-powered cell systems work as according to our research, many are still unaware and uneducated about it. So with the help of our parents and the guidance of our teachers, we started putting together our project.

According to our plan, we would be showing a miniature and realistic type of set up of a model townhouse where solar-powered panels are used to generate power and electricity for twenty-four hours of the day.

So we brainstormed and came up with our plan and basic structure. We used thermocol and Styrofoam sheets to build our house and paint it with acrylic colours. After painting we had applied a layer of varnish to the paints to make them waterproof and so that it lasts for a much longer time.

Next, we used a small piece of cardboard and thick material of carton boxes to create our solar panel and then we stuck thin sheets of fine reflective film sheets on top to replicate solar panels.

After the solar panel dried, we stuck it at the top of the model house as according to our research and knowledge, that was the best spot to absorb maximum solar rays that would help generate sunshine.

Once our solar panel got placed on the building, we started making other accessories that were placed around our house to make it look more realistic. So we used a mix of clay and plastic to create lots of green trees and tiny pebbles of various shades and sizes. Once ready, we placed them around the house and carved a depression into the cardboard.

We covered the area with some clear cling wrap and then painted them plastic blue in colour. After that, we filled it up with some clear long-lasting glue and that is how we created our artificial lake alongside our house.

Once we placed it all in the appropriate places, we painted the rest of them cardboard à mix of green and brown to replicate grass and soil in the city. We also made two small dustbins out of clay and set them near the house to show the importance of recycling bins.

Once we had finished designing and placing our model, we started writing down all of our important information in small placards the size of cue cards. To each of these, we taped a toothpick to the back and then stuck them around the model, explaining the entire process step by step for an easier learning experience.

Once we were done with this assignment, we realised we still had a lot of time to make more projects. So with the help of my friends and teammates, we also created a clay volcano which would erupt. Inside the clay structure, we had placed a bottle with vinegar, dish soap, water and red colour synthetic food dye.

Then when we had to showcase our project, we added a mixture of baking soda and water into the bottle and stirred it a bit. Within seconds, our artificial volcano erupted and it looked so real even our judges were very impressed.

Overall, the Einstein science exhibition was a great opportunity and learning experience for both me and all my friends and classmates. Each project was made with hard work and they were so creative and realistic to look at.

Thanks to the exhibition, we all learned a whole lot of new things about science that we would have never studied from my class textbooks and notes.

VISIT TO A SCIENCE FAIR

Education aims at holistic development of children. Several schools organize science fairs and exhibitions to enhance students’ knowledge, motivate them towards science and to make learning a fun experience. Science fair contributes to their social development and increases the skills of their presentation.

I had an occasion to visit science fair organized by my school on 28th February. All the rooms in which fair was held were decorated with charts and posters. Students had made different kinds of models using electronic gadgets, papers, cardboard and metal too. They showcased static and working models which looked extremely useful for learning and understanding various scientific concepts. I was simply astonished to see the inventive brains of the students. Models displaying the working of heart, digestive system and other organs of the body fascinated the visitors. Charts based on evolution of human beings and biodiversity were presented well. Other eye catching projects were models of solar system, volcanoes and means of transport and communication.

There were 40 exhibits with nearly 90 students involved in the event. The organizers of the fair did proper arrangements with good facilities. The whole compound was beautifully decorated. The judges appreciated the students. The principal and visitors were quite impressed with the dedication of students. Students were encouraged to develop a scientific temper. The whole event was a great success.

Overall the exhibition was informative and enlightening experience. Students learnt various scientific principles. Such science fairs help students to apply their ideas, creative thinking and learn in a unique way. I returned home quite enriched in knowledge.

DEFORESTATION

Deforestation, in simpler terms, means the removal of forest cover or tree plantations to accommodate agricultural, industrial or urban use. It has caused a decrease in the forest cover across the world. The world is losing most of its natural resources through the process of deforestation.

Multiple factors, either of human or natural origin, cause deforestation. Natural factors include forest fires, floods and earthquakes. Human activities are mostly responsible for this process. Agriculture is the number one cause of deforestation. Increasing population demands more food to survive. Farmers are bounded to cut down trees to cultivate land. Other activities such as cattle breeding, timber extraction, mining, dam construction and infrastructure development are among the direct causes of deforestation. Trees are cut to build roads and to expand our cities to accommodate growing population.

There are many harmful effects of deforestation. Trees take carbon dioxide and release oxygen which is responsible for living. Deforestation increases the amount of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and is the major contributor to global warming due to greenhouse effect. Deforestation is a series environmental concern since it can cause  loss of biodiversity,  damage to natural habitat of wildlife, disturbances in the water cycle, reduction in rainfall, soil erosion and desertification. It may lead to food insecurity in the world.

Forests are the lungs of our planet. It is responsibility of government, civil society and each and every individual to control deforestation. The government must put a ban on deforestation. And we all should do the needful to protect our trees.

Benefits of Science Exhibitions for School Students

Science education is a crucial aspect of any modern education system, and it is becoming increasingly important to engage students in interactive and hands-on learning experiences. Science exhibitions provide a unique opportunity for students to showcase their scientific knowledge and creativity while developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills. In this article, we will explore the benefits of science exhibitions and outline how to conduct a science exhibition the right way, with a focus on the importance of student-made projects.

Benefits of Science Exhibitions

Science exhibitions provide numerous benefits to both students and educators. One of the main benefits is that they allow students to showcase their knowledge and creativity in a fun and engaging way. By participating in a science exhibition, students can develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, as well as gain experience in presenting and communicating their ideas to others.

Science exhibitions also provide an opportunity for students to explore a variety of scientific topics and engage with current scientific research. By exposing students to the latest developments in science and technology, exhibitions can inspire them to pursue careers in STEM fields, such as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Moreover, science exhibitions can foster a sense of community among students, parents, and educators. They provide a platform for collaboration and encourage teamwork among students. Exhibitions can also be used as a tool to bridge the gap between the classroom and the community by inviting members of the public to attend and engage with student projects.

Conducting a Science Exhibition the Right Way

When it comes to conducting a successful science exhibition, there are several key factors to consider. One of the most important factors is to ensure that the exhibition is student-led and focuses on student-made projects. This approach not only empowers students to take ownership of their learning but also allows them to showcase their creativity and knowledge in a meaningful way.

To ensure that the exhibition is student-led, educators should provide students with the necessary resources, guidance, and support to develop their own projects. This can involve conducting research, designing experiments, and building prototypes. Teachers can also facilitate brainstorming sessions and peer reviews to encourage collaboration and feedback among students.

Another important aspect of conducting a science exhibition is to provide students with a clear set of guidelines and expectations. Educators can also provide training and support for students in areas such as public speaking and presentation skills.

To make the exhibition more engaging and interactive, educators can also incorporate hands-on activities and demonstrations. This can involve setting up interactive stations where students can showcase their projects and engage with attendees. It can also involve inviting guest speakers, scientists, and experts to speak to students about their work and inspire them to pursue careers in STEM fields.

Finally, it is important to ensure that the exhibition is accessible to all members of the community, including parents, students, and educators. This can involve choosing a location that is easily accessible, providing translation services for non-English speaking attendees, and ensuring that the exhibition is fully inclusive and accessible to students with disabilities.

In conclusion, a well-planned and executed science exhibition can have a profound impact on students' interest in science and their understanding of the subject. By incorporating student-made projects and interactive displays, school owners can provide a dynamic and engaging experience for their students. And for an even more immersive experience, consider hiring a mobile planetarium like Space Trek Planetarium .

By bringing the wonders of the universe directly to your school, students can gain a deeper appreciation for science and technology. With the right resources and a commitment to promoting science education, we can inspire the next generation of scientists and innovators.

SCIENCE EXHIBITION IN SCHOOLS

Science is a great blessing to mankind. The world into which science came was a world of ignorance, suffering and hardship. Science has come to relieve us of suffering, to remove our ignorance and to lighten our toil. Science is a faithful servant of man. It has transformed our daily life, providing us with necessaries and luxuries. Science has spanned the sky, measured the ocean and revealed many secrets of nature. So we cannot ignore the importance of science in the modern world.

A school is the place where children are moulded for future life. Children are the promises of tomorrow. So they should be made aware of the importance of science. Science exhibitions in schools play a pivotal role in this regard. Science exhibitions create a scientific spirit among the students, increasing their thinking and reasoning power. These can make the children creative and inquisitive. A child gets an opportunity to make a project or working model with his own hands. He comes to know of the basic principles of the functioning of an instrument. He gets the opportunity to devise projects for saving fuel, to solve the energy crisis and a lot of other things related to daily life. He also gets into acquaintance with many new scientific devices and principles. All these will increase his interest in science. This will help him in his personal life and such a person will be an asset to the nation.

The education department of the government should take the initiative for conducting science exhibitions in schools. The school authorities should take up this mission. These exhibitions can encourage a healthy competition in the student community.

Essay on “Our School Exhibition” Complete Essay for Class 10, Class 12 and Graduation and other classes.

Our School Exhibition

Our school held a very interesting exhibition of students’ art and craft work last year. It was surprising to see the various pieces of handwork of such high standards. These exhibits were attractive and colourful for they had been prepared and designed well by the students with guidance from the art teachers. The students were very enthusiastic about their work; for each item was rendered carefully and lovingly without the slightest trace of sloppiness. There were many sections to interest parents and friends who came to see the work of their children. The painting of nature, flowers and fruits was of an exceptionally high standard. Other items such as puppets, dolls and articles of embroidery were admired, too. In the geography section, there were clay models of physical features like hills, mountains and plateaus set in a natural environment of green landscape with rivers meandering through the land. Some articles like flowers made from silk were for sale and ladies readily bought these items. Our school exhibition was appreciated by all.

essay on science exhibition in my school

Living things as machines? Vista artist shares love of science and art in 'Organic Metal' exhibition

A rtist Krista Timberlake was initially on her way to becoming a medical doctor when a college calculus course shifted her toward a more creative path.

"While my high school studies were focused on the sciences, as I was planning on studying medicine, I have always been involved in the arts. One year into college and my only poor grade ever in a class (calculus), made me rethink my plan," she says. "I'd always loved both science and art, and I think both those worlds make you view the world in a unique way. It didn't feel like a drastic shift to me, as I'd always studied art, as well."

Her grandfather, an anesthesiologist, had been talking about the way things were changing with regard to an increase in malpractice suits, paperwork and forms, and less time practicing medicine. She left the University of Vermont and ended up earning a bachelor's degree in painting from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. In the years since, her work has been featured in shows and galleries in Vista, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Oceanside, Cardiff, as well as in Kentucky, Colorado, and Minnesota. Currently, her "Organic Metals" exhibition is on display at the Cardiff Library through April 30.

Timberlake, 53, is a senior designer and senior design manager at The Upper Deck Company, known for its sports and entertainment trading cards and other collectibles. She lives in Vista with her fiancé, Verne Ward, and took some time to talk about how her love of cycling and art come together in the nearly 30 watercolors and drawings in this current exhibition.

Q: Can you talk about your process for creating the pieces in this show?

A: My process usually starts with the subject I want to paint (and I have an endless list of things and people I want to paint!). I start with picking a size; drawing a light, basic pencil outline; then, drawing in pencil the numerous bicycle components and other mechanical parts that suggest themselves to me as fitting the theme and/or shape of what I'm creating. I often hide words or messages in there as well. Then, I paint. With the nature of watercolor, my wet-on-wet technique, and the way I render the various mechanical parts, I often have to work on very small portions at a time, filling and shading something as small as an armadillo claw or an eyelid, and moving on to other areas while things dry. So, on the larger pieces, or things with a lot of smaller parts like bicycle chains, this can take many hours per painting. I'd estimate the quickest pieces take four to five hours between drawing and painting, while others are easily 20 hours of work, if not more — I do tend to lose track of time during the painting process.

Q: The description online for this show talks about your 30 years as an avid cyclist and time as a pre-med student leading you to explore the combination of living things and machinery. What was your inspiration for "Organic Metal"? Can you tell us about the meaning behind the title of your exhibition? And, how does the title translate into the pieces we can see in this exhibition?

A: From dissecting things in high school (when I thought I was on track to go into medicine), to studying anatomy and physiology from the different viewpoints of medicine, exercise science, and life drawing, I really came to view living organisms as extremely complex machines. I witnessed several live operations during a veterinary internship during my senior year of high school and saw a lot of what's "under the skin" in animals, as well. I've always had bikes in my life, but got more serious about cycling during high school, and then was on collegiate cycling teams, both at the University of Vermont and at the University of Massachusetts. Training on a regular basis, you really come to view your bike as part of you, or an extension of your own body. "Organic Metal" is a description of what all of the pieces represent—a melding of organic, living people and animals with metallic machinery. The title also conveys the fluid, organic nature of watercolor, juxtaposed with cold, hard, non-living metal.

What I love about Vista...

I can walk in my neighborhood and get to a lot of great places by bike. It's relatively quiet and I get birds and lizards in my yard. Frazier Farms Market is a few miles away and Vista has a phenomenal farmers' market on Saturday. I can get to the ocean or great walking/hiking trails pretty easily. It's a few miles on a bike to Leo Carrillo Ranch, with its entertaining peacocks.

Q: What is it about machinery that you find particularly fascinating? Especially to the point where it's showing up in your artwork?

A: I remember, at a very young age, being fascinated by the books on M.C. Escher and H.R. Giger that we had around the house, plus the Italian design magazines my father got. There are also a lot of amazing old mills and manufacturing buildings all over New England (I always loved looking at the old, rusty, broken-down machinery). Once I started taking art history and film classes, I was very drawn to industrial art and Italian Futurism design, along with so many other art movements. Once I started cycling and being around cyclists, I always had bikes and bike parts around. I also have always loved antique clocks and find all the gears and mechanics fascinating and beautiful. It just seemed natural to want to render them, but I'm not sure at what point I started combining machinery with living subjects.

Q: Who are some artists whose work you respect, or are influenced by?

A: Some of my favorite artists are [Henri de] Toulouse-Lautrec, Paul Klee, and Egon Schiele. I love their unique perspective and irreverence, but, above all, just how their art makes me feel. That's what I love so much about art — it can give you an immediate, emotional, visceral response just by the way a line is put on paper, or a color choice or area of texture just feels so perfect. I also have a great love of dark, whimsical drawings and illustrations. I love the art of Edward Gorey and Tim Burton. Music and musicians are also a huge influence; the music itself, lyrics, or seeing a musician and/or singer perform their art, is incredibly inspiring. I have a lot of portraits of musicians and an endless list of others I'd like to portray. David Bowie is my all-time favorite, but there are many more.

Q: As someone who's spent a significant amount of time invested in and enjoying cycling, do you see connections/parallels between your own body and the machinery of your bicycle(s)?

A: I do have a fondness for the classic steel road frames and old Campagnolo components (you will see those hidden in many of my art pieces). There is definitely a correlation between the cyclist and her bicycle(s); it's a mostly love/occasionally hate relationship. I am so addicted to cycling, I can't imagine life without it, and I find being on a ride is one of the few times my mind clears and I can get ideas/think through things I'd like to create. Riding can give you joy, pain, anger, despair, clarity, and elation, and you pretty much always feel better after riding. While the stress on the human body tends to make us stronger over time, that stress and wear-and-tear causes things on your bike to wear out, get less shiny or break.

Q: What inspires you, as a visual artist?

A: What doesn't inspire me? I find endless inspiration, I just lack the time for my inspiration to come out as art. Animals, humans, bikes, nature, music, dance, food, culture, humor, books, fashion, and film are just a few things that provide endless ideas and visuals to spark a thought of something I'd like to explore visually. The process of creating and exploring, visually, is pretty magical.

Q: What are you hoping to convey to others through the pieces in "Organic Metal"?

A: I always feel like I see things a little differently than other people; I'm very observant and notice strange, funny, beautiful little elements everywhere. I'd like people to look at my work and see a cat or armadillo or sock monkey or portrait of David Bowie or Bono in a whole new way. I hope people get drawn into seeing life brought to metal and think about the juxtaposition of machines and the living world. There's a lot of whimsy in many of my pieces, so I hope people smile. I love playing with color and texture, so I hope people lean in and just enjoy looking at an area of paint and paper.

Q: What is the best advice you've ever received?

A: Never stop learning or being curious. And, you learn more by failure than success.

Q: What is one thing people would be surprised to find out about you?

A: How funny I am and how much I see the humor and absurdity of everyday life.

Q: Please describe your ideal San Diego weekend.

A: An ideal weekend would probably take place in the winter, when it's under 70 degrees. A 40- to 50-mile bike ride each day on scenic roads without cars, with my partner and maybe a few other friends. Some wine tasting at any of the great vineyards around. A hike at Mount Laguna or somewhere else with lots of trees. Reading a book, taking a sunset walk, doing yoga in the evening, grilling some seafood. Going to an art reception where I have work on display, selling every piece that's there, and getting some commissions!
