Essay on My First Day in School in 100 words

It was a cloudy day when I took my first step into the compound of my school. I was carrying a new backpack that was filled with notebooks. Though the backpack was a bit heavy, instead of focusing on the weight, I was excited about the beginning of my journey on my first day in school.

My classroom was at the end of the corridor. As I entered my classroom, my class teacher introduced me to the class and made me feel welcome. Activities like reading, solving problems in groups, and sharing our lunch boxes slowly and steadily transformed the new student with a sense of belonging.

The whole day progressed with mixed excitement as well as emotions. As the bell rang, declaring the end of the school day, the school felt like a world of possibilities where the journey was more than textbooks.

Essay on My First Day in School Sample in 200 Words

It was a sunny day and the sun was shining brightly. With my new and attractive backpack, I was moving through the school gate. It was my first day in school and I was filled with nervousness and excitement. From the tower of the building to the playground everything was bigger than life. As a school student, I was about to enter a new world.

The corridor was filled with the echo of students. As I entered the classroom, wearing a mix of curiosity and excitement, my classmates and class teacher welcomed me with a warm smile. After a round of introductions and some warm-up activities, strangers gradually started tuning into potential friends. At lunchtime, the cafeteria was filled with the smell of delicious food. However, I hesitated before joining the group of students but soon enough, I was laughing with my new friends and sharing stories. The unfamiliar were now my friends and transformed my mixed emotions into delightfulness.

The bell rang for the next class and I stepped out for new learning in my new academic home. My first day of school had many memorable stories, with old subjects and new introductions of knowledge. The day was spent learning, sharing and making new memories.

My first day in school started by stepping onto the school bus with a bag full of books and a heart full of curiosity. It was like I was starting a new chapter in my life. After travelling a long way back, I stepped at the gate of my school. The school gate welcomed me with open arms and greeted me with a sense of excitement as well as nervousness.

As I entered the classroom, I found many new faces. Arranging my stuff on the seat, I sat next to an unknown, who later on turned into the best friend of my life. I entered my class with a welcoming smile, and later on, I turned everything in with ease. During our lunchtime, the cafeteria was filled with the energy of students.

At first, I hesitated to interact with the children, but later on, I was a part of a group that invited me to join the table. At lunchtime, I made many new friends and was no longer a stranger. After having delicious food and chit-chatting with friends, we get back to our respective classrooms. Different subjects such as mathematics, science, and English never left the same impact as they did on the first day of school.

The teacher taught the lessons so interestingly that we learned the chapter with a mix of laughter and learning. At the end of the day, we all went straight to the playground and enjoyed the swings. Moreover, in the playground, I also met many faces who were new to the school and had their first day in school, like me.

While returning home, I realised that my first day was not just about learning new subjects; it was about making new friends, sailing into new vibrant classrooms, and settling myself as a new student. The morning, which was full of uncertainty at the end of the day, came to an end with exciting adventures and endless possibilities. With new experiences, I look forward to new academic and personal growth in the wonderful world of education.

My First Day As A Student Teacher

The night before my first classroom observation visit I barley slept at all, I was an  overwhelming mixture of excited, nervous and anxious. Where the teachers going to like me? Was my outfit professional enough? What if something happened and I did not know how to handle it?

Upon arriving at our practicum school my classmates and myself were greeted with a “Welcome UBC students” sign posted to the front door, which really helped to put my nerves at bay. After taking a quick “selfie” with the girls in front of the sign we went to the office to introduce ourselves to the administrative staff. While the principle was away that day we were able to met the secretaries, the vice principle and a handful of kind faced teachers.

Next we met one of our SA’s who divvied out some “visitor” name tags and took us around the school for an official tour. At this point we briefly met all of the teachers who we would be visiting that day, as well as a number of other important instructors such as the gym teacher and the librarian.

The first classroom that I was in was a grade 4/5 combination. This class is taught by two teachers who work together as a teacher share, with one of them working 4 days of the week and the other working 1 day. The atmosphere in the classroom was great, you could tell that the students really respected their teacher however it was not as regulated as the other classrooms that I would visit that day. One thing that the teachers do to keep the kids on task is to split them into three groups (based on seating) and give the groups checkmarks when the kids are doing things well and to take some away when the kids are acting up. I will have to remember to ask what the checkmarks represent next Thursday.  We did a morning writing activity on “Who is the most amazing person you know” and then the kids had gym class. Because the teacher was going to be using that time for prep she asked me stay with the kids and help out in the gym. The kids in this class were so sweet to me, two of them even asked me if I would come outside and play with them at recess!

The next class I visited was grade 3. This class was the most regulated out of the classrooms I saw. The students sat at tables rather than desks and kept all of their belongings in a cubby on the wall, aside from a few essentials, such as a pen and pencil, that they keep in a communal basket in the centre of the table. The teacher explained that this was to help keep the kids on task and not distracted with things that are in their desks. Another thing I noticed in this class more so than in the others was that their was zero tolerance for students talking out of turn or at times when she was talking. The teacher also spent a lot of time on SEL related concepts, for example before doing a timed math drill she reiterated the idea of staying calm and explained that if you panic your brain will not be able to think as well, we also did a breathing exercise before starting. One classroom strategy that I thought was really great was the marble system, the teacher would give the students marbles (quite liberally) for things like completing homework, behaving well, and even for having a balanced lunch. The students would then put their marbles into a jar, once the jar was full the class would receive 30 mins free time. The kids would then vote to decide if they would spend the 30 mins right away or “bank” it and combine a number of jars for longer free time in the future. The class explained to me that they were working towards banking 10 jars, which would equal 1 full free day! I like that this unites the whole class and also touches upon the notion of democracy. The kids in this class were very sweet, a group of girls came up to me before I left for lunch and told me I looked like a super model. While I was very embarrassed I was also very touched, they were too cute!

After lunch I started out in a grade 5 classroom. The students were doing silent reading so their was not much for me to observe. I did however notice that the teacher had written up the daily schedule on the chalk board. She also wrote out each homework activity on the chalk board and had each item numbered to make sure that the students wrote down each one. Another thing I noticed was the bathroom break policy, the students did not need to ask the teacher if they could go to the bathroom, they would simply pick up the boys or girls bathroom magnet from the board and place it on their desks. This allows for the students to use the bathroom when needed while not disturbing the class in doing so. Because the kids were going to be playing outside for the end portion of the day they packed up their bags early, one thing that the teacher does at the end of the day is initials the students planners and then in the morning checks to see that the students parents have also initialed for that day as well.

Next I was in another grade 5 classroom. When it was time to enter this class they were already in the library creating their library cards and taking out books. The teacher was using this time to do some prep work so I was just observing the kids and making book suggestions. Once we left the library the students wrote in their agendas and similarly to the other grade 5 class we initialled the kids agendas for them before they packed up and we went outside to play “capture the flag”. Once we came back inside the bell was about to ring, the teacher had the students sweep and tidy up their desk stations and then let them go for the day.

What a whirlwind of a day.

The following Friday I found out that I had been placed in the 4/5 combination class. I am so happy to be working with such a great group of kids. I am excited to get to meet the other teacher involved in the teacher share next Thursday as she will be the SA that I work with majority of the time. While I am a little anxious about creating adequate lesson plans suitable for both grade levels, I am willing to take on the challenge and feel as if getting experience in a combination classroom will be extremely beneficial down the line.

My First Day At School Essay

Everything has a first time. Moments become memories. We all cherish the first time we did something or achieved something, or maybe even won our first competition. The moments you love become happy memories. Here are some sample essays on my first day at school.

100 Word Essay On My First Day At School

My first day at school is a very happy memory and I will always love to revisit it. It was a different experience altogether. From the comfort zone of my home, I was suddenly put into a completely new atmosphere – My Preschool. It looked so crowded and noisy. I still remember, on my first day, I was crying and so the memories of the morning are very blurry.

My First Day At School Essay

My parents comforted me and gave me my favourite chocolate ice-cream. I entered the classroom, and it immediately cheered my mood up. The classroom was very colourful, filled with small benches and a lot of toys and swings.

The teacher came after a few minutes. She was very friendly. After an hour, we all grouped together, and played several fun games and did many activities together. It was a very amazing day.

200 Word Essay On My First Day At School

I still remember my first day at preschool. I was very excited and nervous. Being a 5-year-old kid, it had been so hard for me to leave my home and settle in a completely new place for almost an entire day, but I was a tough kid. I was also very excited to wear my uniform. I reminded Mummy to iron my uniform many times until I checked myself and was sure of it.

My Day At School

When I entered the school with my parents on my first day, I was surprised with the fact that there were so many kids of my age, some were happy and laughing, running in the ground. While a few were very scared and crying, their parents and teachers were trying to calm them down.

I was having mixed feelings, but once I entered class, I was elated with joy. The classroom was coincidently painted with my favourite colour—Sky Blue.

In my first lesson I was taught the alphabet. But since I already knew them, the teacher called me out to recite it in front of the class. I nervously went ahead and did it. Everyone clapped for me. It was a very nice moment and made my first day of the school an unforgettable memory for me.

500 Word Essay On My First Day At School

My first day at school is an unforgettable memory for me and gave me a gift I cherish till this date. It was a cosy and comfortable evening in April when I was informed with the news that I have been admitted to Mount Libra Zee School.

I didn’t know how to react. I have seen my sister going to school daily, sometimes she was happy about it, but sometimes she was very reluctant to go and made silly excuses to avoid the school. My parents had also brought a very cute school uniform. I liked it and was excited to wear it. But I still had no idea about how the first day of my school was going to be.

How My First Day At School Started

The next morning, I dressed up very early in excitement. I ate my breakfast and Mummy packed a small tiffin box for me. At 8 o'clock, I went to the school in my father’s red car.

When I Reached My School

The school building was huge. It was painted with cartoons. I got happy when I saw my favourite cartoon characters, Tom & Jerry painted on the walls too. My father left me at the school gate to a peon after instructing him about my class. The peon picked me up very gently and started walking through the endless corridors. I could see the huge playground in the middle of the school building. It had all kinds of swings in it. For a moment, I wanted to run away to my favourite Merry-Go-Round, but I dropped that temptation and was dropped in front of my class by the peon.

My Classroom

The class had 15 chairs, all painted with cartoon characters. The wall had ABCs and numbers painted on it. It was a very cheerful and colourful environment. My eyes immediately glanced through the students already sitting there. They all were lost in their own world. Some were sobering, while some were making drawings with crayons.

After a few minutes, our teacher came. She asked each of us our names and hobbies, and then she introduced herself to us. Then, she then asked everyone to name the animals and birds painted on a picture board. We all begin singing the names. It was very fun. She was impressed with us and gave us candies at the end of the lesson.

After 2 hours, a bell rang for lunch. I took out my tiffin and started feasting on my sandwiches. A boy came to me, and said that sandwiches are his favourite. I knew his name by now, Ansh. I quickly offered him one and he was very happy. We soon became friends and chatted endlessly about Spider-Man, Iron Man and Tom and Jerry.

After learning that his favourite cartoon was also Tom and Jerry , I instantly knew I got my first school friend. 14 years forward, Ansh is still my best friend, and I am always thankful to him for making my first day at school a very fond memory.

Personal Narrative Essay: My First Day at School

First day of school. I was so exhilarated. On the night before the first day of school, I prepared everything for the next day. I chose a beautiful floral dress and practiced french braiding my hair.  I had been practicing and learning how to french braid for weeks.  When everything was ready, I climbed into bed. I was so excited that I could fall asleep. I kept twisting and turning, and my eyes just wouldn’t stay shut. It was like there was a string pulling my eyelids up, preventing me from ever closing my eyes. I don’t remember when I fell asleep, but it felt like I was awake for hours before I finally closed my eyes and drifted off.

On the morning of the joyous day, I woke up at the sound of my alarm. Before I even opened my eyes, I knew what day it was. I reached for my clock and turned off the blaring alarm. I walked toward my closet excitedly, knowing that I got to wear my favorite dress today. Then, I quickly got dressed, grabbed my supplies, and ran down the stairs to do my hair. When I got to the bottom of my stairs, I took a sharp right turn to my vanity. I sat down, grabbed a small section of hair, and started braiding. After about 10 minutes, two elastic bands, and a handful of bobby pins, I finished. I was more than satisfied with my hair. When I got to the dining table, I saw my favorite pancakes. Swiftly sitting down, I stabbed a pancake with my fork and munched down on it. It was so good. I quickly wolfed down my delicious pancakes and waited for my best friend, Gabby, to arrive.

Ding dong! I ran toward the front door, almost slipping on my socks. I fumbled with the lock as I tried to open the door. When I finally got it open, I saw my best friend and jumped joyfully.

“I’ll be right there!” I exclaimed as I swung my backpack over my shoulders and went to the front door. Then I wrapped my arms around my parents, giving them a tight hug.

When I got outside, Gabby and I started walking to school. Our conversations were endless. We could’ve talked for hours just about how fun school was going to be with each other. When we arrived at our classroom, we had to pause our conversations. Our teacher welcomed us in and led us to our seats.

The day was going great. The teacher told us that we could choose where we wanted to sit, so I got to sit next to Gabby. Everyone introduced themselves to one another, and then we got organized for the rest of the school year. Out of all the things you do on the first day of school, getting organized is by far my favorite part. Everything was going great until 11:50 AM.

At 11:50, the bell rang for our second recess. Gabby 10 minutes later, Gabby says, “Can you stop following me?” I was taken aback. I couldn’t believe it. The first day of school and she tells me to stop following her? She was the only person I knew! I try not to present myself as weak and just laughed as if I ignored her comment.

The rest of the day was fine after the second recess. When I got home after school, my mom asked how my first day was. I told her it was great except for when Gabby told me to stop following her. My mom was taken aback as well. Being the great mom that she was, she discussed this situation with me.

“Is there anyone else that is nice that you could be friends with?” my mom asked.

I thought about who was in my class. “Oh, there is this one girl that is also new. I think I could be friends with her since she doesn’t have any friends yet either.”

“That’s great! Tomorrow, you should try to talk to her.”

The next day, I approached the other new student during recess. Her name was G..

“Do you want to sit on the swings together?” I asked.

“Sure,” she replied. Then, we ran to the swings together.

We sat on the swings every day since that day. G. and I started to bond as we hung out together during recess every day. We started inside jokes and conversations just flowed smoothly like a stream.

G. is my closest, most trusted friend, and I give all the credit to my mother. She encouraged me when I was timorous, and she comforted me when I was disconsolate.

Insights I Wish I Would’ve Had During My First Year of Teaching

Almost a decade ago, on the first day of my first year teaching, I sat and stared at a circle of high school students. On my desk was a lesson plan that I’d spent weeks preparing. I’d decorated my classroom to perfection. It was a veritable Pinterest board of beauty and inspiration. I’d carefully arranged the desks in a circle so that my students would face each other and learn together. Everything was in place exactly as I’d planned.

At 8:45am, thirty-one 10th graders entered the room, taking in their new English teacher. They whispered to each other, giving me adolescent side-eye. I smiled back, knowing these first few moments were critical. They settled into their seats. It was showtime.

All of my training, all of my excitement and nervousness came down to this moment. But I immediately felt like every Piaget and Vygotsky reading was failing me. All the pedagogical theory in the world had not prepared me for the pressure of this moment, staring at a circle of urban teenagers on the first day of school.

I looked down at the attendance sheet full of faceless names and back up at the expectant faces of my students. Suddenly, it hit me: “There’s been a mistake. Surely, I can’t be the one in charge of all of these teenagers right now. No one is checking on me? No one is making sure I don’t mess this up? I am just supposed to BE a teacher now?”

The answer was yes . I was now officially a teacher, and like a million educators before me, it was time to dive in and start creating the magic. And so, I did.

The first year of teaching is the hardest. While being an educator is never without its struggles, the first year is by far the most challenging — pieced together with idealism, confusion, good intentions, excitement, fear, and expectations. But fear not. We’ve gathered some amazing wisdom from teachers around the country. Here’s what veteran teachers wish they would’ve known their first year.

On the first day of school

“Make a point to greet each child. They are just as nervous as you are!” – Carolyn

“Look ’em in the eye, say “how are you?” and mean it. Ask students to pronounce their names and say one thing about themselves. It saves you the embarrassing mispronunciation of names, and shows respect when you use their name correctly. Also, you won’t be the only one talking.”  – Jeri

“Always remember that you are not the only one who is scared. There are 30 scared kids too. Empathize and relax together.” – Jeremy

“Enjoy the ride! Smile and breathe. You only get one first day [with these students]! Don’t worry about accomplishing all your goals in one day.” – Janice

About making connections

“Make establishing relationships with students a priority.” – Tyson

“Do not fall into the “Pinterest/Instagram-worthy” classroom snapshot. Make your curriculum and student connections be [what] stands out and is remembered. All of the other stuff is just smoke and mirrors.” – Tina

“Greet each student by name with a smile every day. Your smiles may be the only smiles they see.” – Brenda

“Write a letter to yourself describing the year you are looking forward to, the kind of teacher you will be, and the success of your students. Save this letter in a sealed envelope and read it at the end of the year.” – Wanda

“Create positive relationships with the maintenance staff, the librarian, the office staff, and anyone else who is in the trenches with you and is often overlooked. They are the most amazing people, and can make your life so much easier, and certainly more pleasant.” – Amy

After a long day

“Every day is a new lesson to learn and grow from. Mistakes are proof you are learning!” – Anabel

“Be patient with yourself. Go home before dark, and keep fighting the good fight!” – Samantha

“Don’t try to do it all and be perfect. Students want to know you care and they want you to be honest with them. Don’t be afraid to see that the lesson is not working and change it up.” – Sherry

“Take deep breaths. Everything is not an emergency. It only gets easier from here.” – Sabrina

“It’s OK to not finish everything. It’s OK to not fully know the answers, and it’s OK to be overwhelmed. Just love the kiddos the best you can.” – Amy

“You will have days when you will mess up. You will struggle. You will want to run away crying, and you will beat yourself up over all you could have done differently. Now remember this: every time you fail, you have learned something new. Every time you want to run away, know you will come back again tomorrow. When you feel the need to cry, let it out. Then look for the good in your day, no matter how small it may seem. We all have hard days, but when you reflect and grow, you are becoming a better teacher and a better person. Leave the bad in the past and step forward to the future — for you and for your students!” – Mary

“Pick your battles. Everything is not worth fighting over. You’ll just end up exhausted and spread too thin. Don’t forget the  importance of self-care .” – Allison

When it comes to planning and teaching

“Don’t be afraid to wait. Leave a question lingering. Wait for kids to formulate a thought. Wait for them to settle down. Wait time is golden! Be planned and prepared (because admin. can walk in at any time!) but don’t be afraid to go with the flow of the classroom. If a good conversation is happening, don’t cut it short on account of time or “it’s not in the plans.” It’s usually moments like that where students really get the most out of what you’re doing anyway!” – Laura

“Expect the unexpected. Have plans for when:

  • The network goes out
  • The Smartboard bulb blows out
  • The copier breaks down
  • You schedule a test for the last day before vacation and instead there’s an assembly.” – Kevin

“Any work you assign will come back to you tenfold. Choose wisely.” – Jeff

And living the teacher life

“Going to bed early, getting a full eight hours of sleep, and getting to work early to prep for the day is a much better routine than staying up late and showing up five minutes before first period.” – Andrew

“Be prepared to have kids call you Mom — some on purpose and other by accident. Either way, take it as a compliment.” – Bridget

“Make the payroll secretary your BFF.” – Chiara

“It’s OK to take time for yourself at lunch! Although it’s important to build relationships with students, figure out what time you need to recharge and block that out for yourself. If you need a midday break, make lunch a ‘grown-up only’ time.” – Stephanie

And being a role model

“You don’t have to know everything; modeling curiosity and the ability to find answers is one of the most valuable lessons you can teach.” – Lori

“Plan, prepare, have fun and be a role model, not their friend. Always be kind. Listen first and model being a lifelong learner.” – Darlynn

Hopefully you gained some insight and a few new ideas from these very knowledgeable teachers. Being a teacher isn’t easy but it’s incredibly rewarding. And to that end, keep in mind the powerful words of Nobel Prize laureate, Malala Yousafzai.

My First Day at School Essay in English ( 300 words )

Last year I passed my eighth-class examination. I had to take admission to a new school. My previous school was a middle school.

On that day I got up early in the morning. I got ready and with my father, I started my new school.

It was a big building. We went to the office and met the person at reception. He gave us a form. My father filled it. We went to the Principle’s office. He looked at the form and told us to go to the staff room.

We went to the staff room and gave that form to the teacher sitting there. He gave me a test. I took English and Maths tests. The teacher checked the paper and wrote something on it. He sent us to The Principal. He looked at my test and ordered my admission. My father deposited dues in the office. I was sent to the 8th class with a chit.

I went to the class and gave that chit to the teacher sitting in the class. He told me to take a seat on the front bench. He was teaching English to the class. Then the bell rang and the second period started.

In recess, I took my lunch. The class monitor joined me in my lunch. He was a nice fellow. He showed me to the school and took me to the playground. It was a big ground.

After recess, there were four more periods. I was feeling quite comfortable in the class. All the teachers were very nice and friendly. Their way of teaching was also very good and interesting.

At 1 O’clock the last bell went. I left the class and came back home. My mother was waiting at the door. She was worried about me. She felt relieved when she saw me happy. I told her everything that happened in the school. She was glad to hear the account of my first day in school.

Today we are presenting an essay on my first day in school, so let’s get started.

Essay on My First Day on School feature image

A person’s first day of school can be a bit traumatizing no matter how old you get. There are many first days at school starting from kindergarten, which I skipped, to elementary school to middle and high school all the way up to college.

Maybe it is the fear of the unknown and leaving the environment you are used to, which makes it difficult. When a young boy is 6 years old, leaving the comforts of home and the protection of his parents, the boy feels a bit vulnerable.

He has to learn to stand on his own feet because not everyone is the same and they all do not come from the same backgrounds or the same neighborhoods. At least when I started elementary school, I had friends from the neighborhood that I could count on.

Every school had its share of tough guys who wanted to be the boss among the younger kids and the elementary playground was that place they could exercise their authority.

I do not know but maybe I was one of the lucky ones as no one really picked on me my first day. In fact, it was a quiet sunny September morning when I trotted off to school. My older brother and sister may have walked me but I do not remember

What I do remember is that I made it to school unscathed and found my way to my classroom. I must have or I would have heard about it from my parents when I got home.

The good thing about the first days at school where I grew up is that there is no work. Everyone is trying to get settled in their assigned desks. The teacher told everyone where they would be sitting and I think I got the back of the classroom.

That didn’t matter to me the teacher wrote in very large print so I could see what she wanted us to know without straining my eyes. I think she wrote that first day that her name was Mrs. Konklin. A strange name, one I am sure we would make fun of later in the year.

But today we were all respectful, nice and obeyed her every command. What work we did was just introductory things like giving our names and personal data and all. For some reason, the teacher who seems to hand out the same assignment every year, as this exercise was repeated every time, I had her as my guide.

Recess came early. It was only 15 minutes and the teachers liked it because it gave them a bit of a break from us. We weren’t supervised that much as there was too little time to get into any real trouble.

The first day started at 9 a.m. and if I remember correctly we had to stay till 3 p.m. For the next 12 years that would be our school schedule. Lunch was a lot more fun as we had a full hour to go outside, run around and just play with each other.

It didn’t take long for the neighborhood boys to gather in their own little groups. With everything new, including new kids to get to know, it was all overwhelming and it was nice to be with someone you knew.

As the day wore on, we started to get used to our new surroundings and I and my friends began to relax a little bit. The school wasn’t going to be that bad after all. I liked my teacher because she seemed nice and unbiased.

As 3 o’clock approached our classroom activities were designed to help us break the ice and get to know our new classmates but when that last bell rang we were getting out from that classroom and the school doors like a shot. Finally, we were free!

So how was this presentation on “My first day at school”? I hope you liked it, however, feel free to share your thoughts on the comment section regarding this essay, I would love to hear from you!

essay on my first day at school as a teacher

For me, preparation is crucial. I spent a few days towards the end of the summer holidays decorating my classroom, developing resources and planning my first week of lessons.

Forward planning gives me a sense of confidence and, in my opinion, is the key to success.

In my local authority, we are given an in-service training and information session at the start of each new term. My first impressions were really positive and, as a former pupil of the school, it was a very welcoming experience for me. It was warming to see so many familiar faces which helped to settle the new job jitters.

On the first day of term before the start of each lesson I would take a deep breath, look around my newly decorated classroom, double-check my lesson plans, and remind myself of everything I’d done to get to where I was standing. It was time to get the year off to a successful start!

My advice for day one:

  • Arrive early to welcome your pupils with a smiling face. They too are nervous about starting a new school year and seeing a happy face can really make them feel more relaxed about their new experience.
  • Welcome pupils into your classroom, inviting them to take a seat until you establish an effective seating plan for them.
  • Have some ice breaker activities planned. For secondary school level, consider creating a class dictionary. Students can write a three-part definition of themselves that includes physical characteristics, personality traits, and favourite hobbies or interests. As the teacher you should also get involved and share some information about yourself with your pupils. This will help to make you more approachable and build rapport with your pupils.
  • Explain classroom expectations. Present the most important classroom routines in a positive way. Explain, discuss and give your pupils a chance to develop their own set of classroom rules. Remember, they won’t learn it all in a day. So, continue to emphasise and practise classroom routines for the first few weeks.
  • Deal promptly with behavioural problems, applying sanctions where necessary and following the school discipline procedures that are in place.
  • Generate interest and enthusiasm by hinting at exciting new topics you plan to cover in the coming weeks.
  • Take students on a tour of your classroom – especially useful if yours is a practical subject! Explain what is in all the cabinets and drawers. Show them what is accessible and what is off limits.
  • Lastly, be yourself! Let your passion and enthusiasm for your subject shine through. You must be fully committed to making a difference to the lives of young people. Don’t be afraid to try new things to promote pupil learning and improve pupil experience.

If your first day activities involve all of your students in ways that allow them to be successful, you’ll be sure to make a good first impression. You will be seen as a caring, organised leader who is focused on creating a stimulating and cooperative environment.

I don’t really remember much of what happened as a child. All I know is that I grew up in a pretty normal household with a mom, dad and an older brother. Not much of the outside world scared me, or even intimidated me. I didn’t even know that there was much of an outside world. Everything I had at home, and around the neighborhood was everything I knew, and that was it. My mom efficiently prepared me for my first day of school in the way she thought to be the best. She would anticipate the day it would come, and assure me that everything was going to be okay. I remember her talking about the games we would play, how I would get to meet other kids my age and that there would be a nice teacher to guide me along my way. It didn’t sound that scary. I mostly liked the idea of getting snacks in the middle and getting to play with new toys, nap time wasn’t really my thing, though; I could always do that at home. There were some things my eager six-year-old self was excited about, but I never understood exactly why I had to go to school. My first day of school, being a big change in my life, is something I will always remember and relate to other dramatic changes which I have gone through. I’m sure that most people can relate to this in a sense that everyone has gone through a significant change in their life, no matter how mundane the event may be.

I wondered what the other kids were like, and why they had to go to school, too. I wondered if they colored, played or did things as well as I did. Probably not. My mom explained to me that I’ll be learning new things, and that I’ll have to go to school five times a week. For me at that age, a week seemed very long. What if I didn’t want to go? What if I just wanted to stay home? I really had mixed emotions about the subject.

After much prepping, the first day of school finally came. I remember getting out of the car and looking up at the structure in front of me. The building had colorful painting on its bricks on the sides, with a bright blue door. My eyes grew bigger, and I didn’t even realize I was holding my breath. All my mixed emotions drained into one at that very moment – fear. I was not sure of exactly what to expect, and I didn’t know anyone in there. How would I call my mom if I wanted something, if I was hungry or if I hurt myself? Suddenly, all of this school business did not seem like such a good idea. I turned to my mom who was holding her hand out to me and smiling. I gave her a worried look, which she caught on to right away. She stepped closer and nudged me towards the door. After she gave me a kiss on the forehead, that was it, she was gone and I was stuck in school, a place I was so unfamiliar with.

The bell rang and I proceeded to walk through the door. I took a big breath and looked around. The room was so bright and colorful and there were so many different artworks posted on the walls. I clearly remember a sea of pinks, yellows, blues and greens. There were pictures of animals, fruits and houses all drawn by other kids decorating the room. I recall there being desks desks with paper and crayons, and there was even a little corner with toys! This calmed me down, and made me feel like it was not as bad as I thought.

I looked at the other kids coming in; I did as they did and left my backpack on a hook near the door, and took a seat in an empty chair closest to me. We were greeted by an older lady; she told us that she was going to be our teacher. She started us off by calling us from a list one by one; to make sure we were all there. I also remember having name tags of some sort, I think we kept those on even a week after school started. At that time, I didn’t get why, I already knew my name after all.

We learned some songs, played a lot of games and because we all did what we were told, we got some time to play with the toys in the corner of the room. Next thing I know, we were given snacks. We then got to play outside on the playground. Because of all the playing, we got tired pretty soon, and they let us sleep. After a bit more games, another bell rang and the teacher told us it was time to go home. The day seemed really long since we did so much, but none of it was boring.

As soon as I grabbed my bag and stepped outside the door, I saw my mom waiting for on the side walk. I ran to her, and clearly remember feeling like I haven’t seen her in such a long time. During the car ride back home, I talked tirelessly about how the day went and all the new things I did, and how the other children were just like me, and most of them like the same things I liked. I asked her when I’ll go back, and I just got excited when she told me when I wake up in the morning, I’ll be going again.

I don’t remember ever feeling that anxious and excited all at once, all my expectations about school were mostly wrong. According to most researchers specializing in childhood psychology, children do tend to have very unrealistic expectations about their first day of school (Kendrick).

I had a pretty average childhood before kindergarten; I guess all my fears about changing my environment just came up because I was not sure of what to expect leaving the comforts of my home. This was the first significant time in which I realized that there is a bigger world out there, and there are so many things to learn, people to meet and things to do. I felt so grown-up at that time, being able to go somewhere where I didn’t need my parents, it was all just me, no help. I guess that this first day of kindergarten is much like all the other first days of school – like the first day of middle school, high school and even college. I built myself up with all these ideas, and you get all worked up about them, but once you’re there and you get the flow of how things are done, it becomes easier. When there is an event in your life, no matter how mundane or usual it may seem, it can change how you view things. Looking back at my first day of kindergarten and evaluating my thoughts as compared to what actually happened, I can say that I got overwhelmed more with the idea of kindergarten more than anything. Once you get over those negative thoughts in your head, you realize that it’s not that bad. You just have to rise above your thoughts and your fears. My first day of kindergarten will always be that event I’ll remember which changed how I saw things in life.

A school is a primary institution where children go to learn new ideas and habits and receive education while making new friends on the journey. I was admitted to the school when I was 5 years old. It was a primary school, and I was really scared to attend it as it was the first time I had to spend a long time without my parents outside the home. On the first day, I woke up early as it was morning school, wore the new uniform, and reached school with my parents. They dropped me off at the Headmistress’s office, from where I was taken to my class. As I entered my class, I saw a few high benches and low benches where other students were sitting on. I sat on the third bench, where I made a friend who later became my best friend. I loved my first day at school and still cherish the memories.

The first day of school is very different for every kid. Some cry, some get excited, and some feel reluctant about the new environment. A long essay should capture these various emotions and feelings in a streamlined manner. Here is an example of writing an essay on the first day at school for class 3.

My Classroom

On my first day at school, I woke up early and dressed in my new uniform. I went to the school premises with my parents. The premises was huge with green lawns and a two-storey-ed building with nine rooms. I went to the Headmistress’s office and was later taken to my classroom by our class teacher. It was a small yet airy room with some benches and a blackboard. I sat on the third bench where another student was seated, who later became my best friend. Our class teacher was very friendly, and we got to introduce ourselves. I learnt a new alphabet and played with my new friends. We were given the school tour on the first day.

We were shown restrooms, a swing area, a dance room, etc. Though I enjoyed my first day, it wasn’t easy to stay so long without my parents. I missed them terribly. My mother packed my favourite snack for lunch, and I missed her badly then. I remember many kids crying and teachers trying to soothe them and pamper them with toffees. We were given some sheets and colours to enjoy colouring. I recall I was given a butterfly to colour. My friend got a crocodile, and I saw another kid colouring a bird. It was such a fantastic activity. Another activity happened that day; we had to tell the teacher the one thing we instantly liked about the school. I said swings, and my friend said colours. It was a memorable day that I cherish even today.

Introduction To Teachers And Friends

Our class teacher introduced us to other teachers, and we were asked to introduce ourselves. Teachers made us sit alphabetically. Luckily my friend’s name also started with S, like me, so we sat together. We played fun Pictionary games. We were asked to perform our hobbies and were given toffees. It was amazing to meet my best friend, who shared the same hobby, dancing with me. The teacher also read a beautiful story to us. I really loved the overall experience.

My first day of school as a teacher…

essay on my first day at school as a teacher

My first day had me filled with fear beforehand but left me elated by the end. I’d taught a few lessons, met a few new colleagues and started the daily routine of clearing my pigeon hole. I’d managed to navigate the school site, find rooms and remember some names too. I’d even remembered to bring in some biscuits for the admin team as they’d been so helpful when I’d been in on interview and on day visits before starting.

The journey to becoming a teacher is a long one and to finally reach it is a huge achievement. Teaching is one of the best and most rewarding careers there is. It’s really hard work and therefore it’s important to take time for yourself. Most of all though, make sure you enjoy it!

My parents introduced me to the alphabet at home and bought me new clothes, shoes, and a bag. That’s how I got ready to start my school life.

I went to school holding my father’s hand. Dad took me to the headmaster’s room first. I offer him Salam and he replied with a smile. Then he asked me my name and a few questions, and I answered. He then wrote down my admission information and sent me to my class with the clerk.

In the first class, the teacher told us funny stories. Within a few days, I got my classmates as my friends. The day I went to school for the first will shine in my memory forever.

Our life is a combination of many events and experiences. But not everything is remembered for a long time. However, some events can never be forgotten. My first day at school was such a memorable day.

It was January 1, 2000. That day my father took me to our village primary school. My school name is Chhanbari Govt. Primary School. The headmaster asked me my name and some more simple questions and I answered them.

He then sent me to my class with the clerk. There I see a lot of students like me. They were strangers to me. But it didn’t take long for them to become my friends.

After a while, our first teacher entered. He first wanted to know the names of all of us. Then he said some very funny jokes. My First Day at School Essay, 350 Words

By: Haque | For Class 9-10/SSC | 01-01-’23

It was one day some six years ago that I first attended school as a regular student. But I still remember that day I felt as if it happened only yesterday.

I still remember the day my parents decided to send me to school. I was not at all happy on the morning when I was being dressed for school for the first time. Mother brushed my hair, dressed me in, and sent me to school with my father .

My father took me to the headmaster. My heart was beating fast. The headmaster looked at me, smiled, and said, “so, you are the son of my dear pupil and now you are going to be my pupil too.” I politely replied, “yes sir”. My reply seemed to please him. He then asked me a few questions from my books and I promptly answered them all. I was admitted into class one.

When my father left me at school to attend classes, I found myself all alone. There were so many boys and classmates. But they were all strangers to me. When the bell rang, our class teacher entered. We all stood up. Hardly had I taken my seat when my teacher put me a question. I got afraid and stood dumbfounded. My classmates laughed and I got more nervous.

I felt excited about the new school environment. The teachers taught us with love and with a smile. They have left a deep impression on my young mind.

During recess, while other boys played, I simply, looked on. I did not even eat the tiffin that my mother had given me. I was thinking of her and of my home all the time. At the end of school, I ran home and told my mother all that had happened in the school.

But it didn’t take long for my school to become my favorite place. Those who were strangers at my first meet soon became my best friends . I left there five years of my childhood. The golden memory of going to school on the first day will remain in my heart forever.

I got to know my class teacher and classmates. They all greeted me with smiles. When the class was over, I went back home with a new experience of life. I won’t forget my first day of school ever.

  • Did you feel nervous about going to school for the first time?
  • Write a paragraph recalling your first school experience.

We all have different kinds of memories. Many are of happiness and joy, some are of sorrow. Some memories we lose, but some are so bright that they are never lost. The memory of my first day at school is still bright in my heart. I was 6 years old then. When my father told me that I would start going to school, I was very excited and nervous. What a place for school, how others would treat me on my first day at school, I wondered. The next morning my mother woke me up in the morning. Wearing new clothes, I started going to school holding my father’s hand. Dad first took me to the school’s headmaster’s room. He smiled and asked my name. Then he called the class teacher and sent me to my class. I was surprised to see children my age filling the room. They embraced me with love, everyone became my friend in a few days. They were my classmates, playmates too. I played a lot on the school field. I still think I can recognize every grain of sand in that field. I will never forget the memory of my first day at school.

We can take this opportunity as a day to thank our teachers and express our love and care for them.

  • We can suggest and provide assistance by making use of the skills that we have learned over these years.
  • Also, we can give them a visit on this day and share with them our experiences. This will for sure make them happy and proud of their efforts.
  • We can present a small token of appreciation, something that they could keep as a memory like a pen or a planner or something that would be useful for them.
  • We should also seek their blessings and let them know that we are always there for them when they need us.
  • Students can collectively gift them books and other materials and organize a get-together especially if the class has graduated.

Time spent with them and gratitude expressed would be a great gesture to make teachers happy and proud. It is very important to recognize their contribution to molding our personality.

I worked in schools for over 2 decades. My kids are homeschooled.

  • I worked in schools for over two decades and loved that my kids were in school.
  • The pandemic forced remote learning and my kids thrived.
  • I appreciate that they are safer at home than in schools and that we get to travel.

Insider Today

I thought I could never homeschool my own kids .

It wasn't for me. Not only did homeschooling seem difficult and intimidating, but as a former teacher, I loved that my kids were in school.

For more than two decades, I worked in schools — as a classroom teacher, after-school program teacher, volunteer, tutor, and substitute. I taught all ages, from preschoolers through high schoolers. I was an ardent supporter of public schools and thrived in traditional schools myself.

But the pandemic made me reevaluate everything.

My kids thrived during remote learning

Remote learning during the pandemic wasn't for everyone. Surprisingly, my family loved it. There were growing pains, but this new version of school worked for us.

In particular, one of our children is a talented student but faces social challenges in certain settings, like school. During remote learning, for the first time, they had the freedom to focus on learning without the social exhaustion of a seven-hour school day.

They thrived.

Related stories

I was available as a consistent aide for them, which our school system had been unable to provide. With more selective social interactions, our kid was able to approach those interactions from a place of strength and curiosity.

After years of trying to fit our child's needs into traditional school, we finally, and inadvertently, found where they fit best, and it was learning from home .

We could travel

Along with that realization, we'd long dreamed of my spouse working remotely so we could spend time in other countries. I wanted my kids to experience other cultures and ways of life. When the pandemic forced employers to explore remote work, this far-fetched dream became plausible, and by homeschooling, we weren't limited to summers. We decided to lean into learning through travel.

While homeschooling, we've traveled to a dozen US National Parks and lived for a month each in Spain and Kenya, with an upcoming stay in Costa Rica. Being able to travel during off seasons means more affordable prices and more ideal weather.

I wanted them to have anti-racist education

Prior to our decision, our local school board faced regular opposition to diversity and inclusion efforts. As in many communities, discourse became divisive. Speaking at a school board meeting in favor of inclusivity, I realized I didn't want my kids' education caught in the crossfire of political talking points. I wanted them to learn honest, thought-provoking, age-appropriate lessons about difficult topics, but I knew as an educator that teachers needed to tread carefully for their own protection in the current political climate.

Classroom teachers are the best people to guide students through these topics, but their freedom to teach is constantly being challenged. In the meantime, my kids have a teacher in their home who can teach without hesitation and answer their questions without repercussions.

I wanted them to be safe

There have been 18 school shootings on K-12 school grounds in the United States so far this year. Our district receives multiple threats each year, some deemed credible enough to result in increased police presence or building-wide searches. District administration closed school for two days after credible threats to minority students. Meanwhile, mental health and counseling services for students are overburdened and underfunded.

I feel anxiety for friends and loved ones every time we get the district's warning notifications, but a part of me also breathes easier knowing my own children are in the backyard working on science projects, not practicing lockdown drills.

Homeschooling wasn't on my radar. Yet it was the missing piece to helping my child and expanding my kids' perspectives. It's worth rethinking the possibilities of what education can be.
