Joe Scarborough Says Real 'October Surprise' For Donald Trump Isn't What You May Think
MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough suggested Thursday that new reporting on GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump’s alleged praise of Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler isn’t the so-called October surprise of the 2024 election.
Instead, the surprise(s) are the controversial and often divisive comments that the former president is saying himself, with less than two weeks until Election Day.
The “Morning Joe” co-host cited Trump’s recent escalating authoritarian rhetoric such as his vow to purge political opponents, declaration he would use the military on U.S. citizens and description of high-profile Democrats as “enemies from within.”
“That’s the October surprise and that’s Donald Trump’s biggest problem right now,” Scarborough said.

"Not deranged to fear this": Scarborough urges voters to take Trump at his word
The msnbc host told bill maher that "trump derangement syndrome" is a natural response to the former president, by alex galbraith.
Joe Scarborough doesn't see anything wrong in being a little freaked out by what Donald Trump 's campaign is promising.
During a Friday night stop by "Real Time with Bill Maher" the MSNBC host said that he knows people might write him off over perceived bias, urging that they instead take the former president at his word.
“I don’t want people to listen to me, I don’t want them to listen to you, I don’t want them to listen to anybody,” the former Republican congressman from Florida said. “I want them to listen to what Donald Trump says.”
While former President Barack Obama was happy to poke fun at Trump's ramblings as incoherent "word salad " in recent stump speeches, Scarborough saw nothing funny in what Trump tells crowds. He railed against Trump's recent assertion that he would sic the military on dissenters if he were allowed back into office, something that Trump opponent Kamala Harris also touched on in a recent, contentious interview with Fox News .
“This past week, Trump said he was going to use the military and the National Guard to arrest his political opponents," Scarborough shared. He was asked if he would back off of that, he said no. And in fact, he doubled down.”
“I would just like to say to my Republican friends that it’s not deranged to fear this, it’s not deranged to find this alarming,” he added.
The television host is feeling the heat from Trump, who has threatened broadcasters who share news stories that he doesn't like. Following a "60 Minutes" interview with Harris — an opportunity that was extended to Trump that he declined — the former president said the network should lose its broadcast license.
"CBS should lose its license, and it should be bid out to the Highest Bidder, as should all other Broadcast Licenses, because they are just as corrupt as CBS – and maybe even WORSE!" he wrote on Truth Social.

Joe Scarborough's Take On Trump's Weekend Speech Is Too Terrifying To Imagine
General Assignment Reporter, HuffPost
“ Morning Joe ” host Joe Scarborough’s analysis of Donald Trump ’s weekend speech turned downright dark on Monday. (Watch the video below.)
Scarborough said the words of Trump, running mate JD Vance and Trump family members in Butler, Pennsylvania, signaled that the “increasingly desperate” Republican nominee was “preparing for civil war.”
Scarborough played snippets of their addresses, led by Trump’s assertions that political opponents have sought to stop him from a second term by any means necessary. “Maybe even” by assassination attempts. He boasted that Russia and China are outside enemies that can be handled by a “smart” president like him, but that the left is “much more dangerous” as the enemy within.
Vance said those against Trump were trying to bankrupt and jail him, and it “was only a matter of time before somebody tried to kill him.” Donald’s son Eric Trump echoed distortions about the FEMA response to Hurricane Helene and Eric’s wife, Lara Trump , described the election as more than Republicans vs. Democrats : “good vs. evil, and good is going to win this battle.”

Scarborough sounded the alarm.
“The level of un-American activity that you just saw is stunning,” the MSNBC personality said. “That is un-American. They know they’re lying. Donald Trump knows that’s a lie. He will tell you that the Secret Service, he thought, did the best job they could do. The fact that JD Vance and Trump’s family would out and out say what they said takes the threat of violence, takes the threat beyond where it was even leading up to January the 6th. This is an increasingly desperate person, an increasingly desperate family, who is preparing for civil war. They just are.”

Mika Brzezinski Explains Joe Scarborough’s Break From ‘Morning Joe’ This Week: ‘I Told Him To’
Scarborough has been absent from the MSNBC show for a few days, which Brzezinski says creates a “void” and proves “nobody comes close” to what he does
“Morning Joe” host Mika Brzezinski took to Twitter Wednesday to explain why her husband and co-host Joe Scarborough has been absent from their MSNBC morning show for the last several days.
“A word on my husband,” she wrote in a series of tweets.”Yes JOE is taking a week or to off – he may jump in-may not. The reason? I told him to. When he’s not by my side in the morning, I feel the void and realize his value all over again. For 13 years, Joe has been ANALYZING, ADVOCATING, PROGNOSTICATING like NO ONE can. Nobody comes close. This is rarely recognized btw-maybe because he makes it look so easy! This show has become a vital part of the political landscape. Joe created the platform, pitched to Phill Griffin – chose the players, and set up a GO-TO place for politics.”
Brzezinski praised the former GOP representative’s dedication to the show and his role.
“Joe’s job is like juggling precious china and fire sticks. He puts himself out there because he LOVES politics, he LOVES his country. Joe has a quick intellect and passion for American history. It all makes him remarkably effective at speaking the ultimate truth to power!!” she wrote .
In recent months, Scarborough used his platform to hammer the Republican party for its coronavirus response. Earlier in July, he opined that given President Donald Trump’s months-long insistence the coronavirus is going to disappear entirely, future historians won’t ever wonder why his polling was bad ahead of the November election.
He and Brzezinski were married in 2018.

What Happened Between Joe Scarborough & Mika Brzezinski?
Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski , co-hosts of Morning Joe , have recently been caught up in a professional drama. Known for their dynamic on-air chemistry and engaging debates, the couple’s recent tensions have raised concerns about the impact on their show and its production. Now, fans are curious to know about what happened.
Here is everything to know about the drama between Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski on Morning Joe.
Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski’s Morning Joe drama explained
Tensions between Morning Joe co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski have reportedly reached a boiling point, prompting an emergency intervention from their network. According to a source who spoke with In Touch on July 18, the once lively banter between Scarborough and Brzezinski has become a significant source of tension on set.
The source told In Touch, “The bosses have been forced to intervene to correct course. Their couple’s banter has gone from adorable to annoying.” The source also noted that the on-set atmosphere has become so tense that “guests complain how uncomfortable they are on set when those two are fighting.”
The situation escalated notably after a heated exchange on June 27, as reported by Closer Weekly . During a discussion about President Joe Biden’s debate performance against Donald Trump, Brzezinski defended Biden which led to a heated exchange with Scarborough. Scarborough criticized Brzezinski for raising her voice. The argument left the production team on edge.
With the upcoming election intensifying the pressure, concerns have grown that Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski will “get worse.” The network is now concerned about their on-screen chemistry.
Earlier reports from In Touch revealed a notable on-air clash between Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough. This was when Brzezinski called out Scarborough for repeatedly interrupting her during their broadcast.
Scarborough and Brzezinski tied the knot in a private ceremony in Washington, D.C., in November 2018. They have been together ever since then.

‘Pathetic People!’ Joe Scarborough Slams Trump Allies Attacking General John Kelly Who Made Hitler Praise Claims
Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough slammed ranking supporters of former President Donald Trump attacking the credibility of retired Gen. John Kelly for his claims the Republican nominee privately praised Nazi German dictator Adolf Hitler as “pathetic people.”
Kelly, who served as Trump’s White House chief of staff, told The New York Times on Tuesday that the former president once told him Hitler “did some good things.” The Trump campaign denied the claims. In a further article in The Atlantic, it was claimed that Trump remarked when in office that he wished he had “the kind of generals that Hitler had.”
In response, MAGA allies have come out to argue that Trump’s words were being taken out of context or that the allegations were outright lies. Rep. Mike Waltz (R-FL) appeared on CNN on Wednesday, for example, and refused to believe the story.
Musing on polls that indicate the presidential race is tied, Scarborough attacked those criticizing Kelly for his claims and calling the disputed story an “October Surprise” – a race altering news narrative.
There’s been some chatter about this October Surprise. Maybe it was [ New York Times reporter] Michael Schmidt’s reporting or [The Atlantic writer] Jeffrey Goldberg’s reporting that was an October surprise. Maybe it was that Kamala Harris said that he was a fascist. Maybe, more importantly, it was Donald Trump’s longest serving chief of staff who was a general, a highly respected general whose son gave his life to America in defense of America, and who has committed his entire life to defending this nation, who said that Donald Trump was, yes, indeed, a fascist. Also, the chairman of the joint chiefs, Donald Trump’s last chairman of the joint chiefs, said Donald Trump was a fascist to the core.
Scarborough rounded on those defending Trump.
I understand there’s some pathetic people out there. Some pathetic people that are trying to cozy up to Donald Trump, who are trying to blame Jeffrey Goldberg, trying to blame General Kelly for a, quote, October Surprise that they’re making up. Of course, imagine that, people are actually questioning the integrity of those two. Questioning the integrity of General Kelly.
The host then went on to claim that the real October Surprise came not in the claims made by those who served in Trump’s administration but from his own rhetoric.
But, no, those aren’t the October surprises. The October surprises are what Donald Trump says and what he has said every time he has opened his mouth. The October surprise is that Donald Trump has said he is going to arrest his democratic opponents. The October surprise is that Donald Trump has said he is going to use the army and is going to use the National Guard against his political opponents. That’s the October surprise.
Watch above on MSNBC.
WATCH: Joe Scarborough Explains What the Real October Surprise Is
During his Tuesday broadcast, Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough opined that Donald Trump's unstable behavior is the true October surprise.
During election season, there is always a worry about the October surprise—the late-breaking news that turns the race on its head. Some wondered whether General John Kelly going on the record about just how awful Donald Trump is could be that moment.
The Morning Joe Panel was discussing the news and the host strongly argued that Donald Trump's actions in general is what could move the election. He began :
"Some pathetic people that are trying to cozy up to Donald Trump, who are trying to blame Jeffrey Goldberg, trying to blame General [John] Kelly for a, quote, 'October surprise' that they're making up. Of course. Imagine that: people actually questioning the integrity of those two. Questioning the integrity of General Kelly."
"But, no, those aren't the October surprises," he continued . "The October surprises are what Donald Trump says and what he has said every time he has opened his mouth. The October surprise is that Donald Trump has said he is going to arrest his Democratic opponents. The October surprise is that Donald Trump has said he is going to use the army and is going to use the national guard against his political opponents –– that's the October surprise."

Joe Scarborough Biography
Joe Scarborough is an American television host, attorney, and political commentator working for MSNBC as a co-host of Morning Joe. He joined the MSNBC news team in April 2003, after previously working for GOP.
Joe Scarborough Career
Scarborough became a member of the Florida Bar in 1991 and worked as a lawyer in Pensacola. Scarborough’s most famous case was when he briefly defended Michael F. Griffin, who killed Dr. David Gunn in 1993. Griffin’s dad was friends with Scarborough’s in-laws, so he agreed to stand in for Griffin until he could find a better lawyer. Scarborough went to court several times to defend Griffin before stepping away from the case. He later said, “There was no way in hell I could sit in at a civil trial, let alone a capital trial,” referring to the possibility that Griffin would be put to death.
Scarborough helped Griffin choose another lawyer from the many who offered their services, though, and she also helped protect Griffin’s family from the media attention, free of charge. Scarborough became better known in politics when he helped with a petition drive in late 1993 and led a tax revolt that stopped a plan to raise Pensacola’s property taxes by 65 percent. In 1999, while he was still in Congress, Scarborough started The Florida Sun, a free weekly newspaper for the Pensacola area. The paper combined in 2001 and is now called the Independent News. When Scarborough got out of Congress, he worked as an environmental lawyer in Florida. Scarborough Country started airing every night during prime time on MSNBC in April 2003. Politics and pop culture were talked about on the show. As soon as Hurricane Katrina was over, Scarborough aired the show from Biloxi, Mississippi. Scarborough said that what was happening along the Gulf Coast was “nothing short of a national disgrace” after three days of reporting out there. From Scarborough’s experiences, the Times-Picayune said, “he is on the shortlist of network anchors and correspondents whose Gulf Coast assignments during and right after Katrina changed their lives.” Since Scarborough spoke out against President Bush, the San Francisco Chronicle said that his coverage of Hurricane Katrina had “become essential viewing.”
Douglas Brinkley, a presidential historian who wrote the book The Great Deluge about Katrina, said, “Joe Scarborough was very aware of the destruction along the Gulf Coast, and his diagnosis of the failures was right on the mark.” He became the host of Morning Joe in May 2007. A column Scarborough wrote for The Washington Post in August 2016 said the Republican Party should “dump Donald Trump” as their presidential candidate. Scarborough wrote about Trump’s comments about Hillary Clinton and the Second Amendment, “A bloody line has been crossed that cannot be ignored.” The Republican Party finally has no choice but to act quickly to stop this political train wreck before something bad happens because of Donald Trump. In tweets from June 2017, President Trump criticized Scarborough and Brzezinski for writing about his administration. He called Scarborough “Psycho Joe” and Brzezinski “low I.Q. Crazy Mika,” saying that she was “bleeding badly from a face-lift” when he met her at Mar-a-Lago. In response, the hosts wrote an opinion piece for The Washington Post in which they said that White House officials told them that the president would stop a planned National Enquirer story if they apologized to Trump for writing about him. A lot of Republican politicians, like Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and Senators John McCain, Susan Collins, Ben Sasse, Lindsey Graham, and Lisa Murkowski, didn’t like what the president said in his tweets.
According to Trump, there are also “wild allegations and fact-free innuendo” about something that happened when Scarborough was in Congress. Someone who worked for Scarborough was found dead on the floor of his congressional office in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, on July 20, 2001. Scarborough was in Washington, D.C. at the time. The 28-year-old woman lost consciousness, fell, and hit her head on the edge of a desk the day before. An autopsy showed that this was due to an unidentified problem with her heart valves. The news outlets spread rumors about the death, often linking it to Scarborough’s departure from Congress, which was made public in May.
Publisher Markos Moulitsas and filmmaker Michael Moore pushed the idea that Scarborough had something to do with the death. Moore even filed the website JoeScarboroughKilledHisIntern.com to support his claim. Since 2017, Trump has brought up the false rumor again and asked for another probe. The Wall Street Journal, the New York Post, and the Washington Examiner all said bad things about what Trump said. “Remarkably, we have a president who is trying to have someone prosecute the person he considers to be his chief critic in the media,” Scarborough said in 2020. “Putin does that.” In that way, Orban acts. Autocrats have done that for hundreds of years.
In August 2019, Scarborough got in trouble for tweeting about the death of Jeffrey Epstein, an American investor who was a convicted sex offender and made a lot of money. On Twitter, Scarborough wrote, “A man who knew things that could have destroyed the lives of wealthy and powerful men is found dead in his jail cell.” As expected, they were Russian.” At the beginning of 2021, Scarborough was very angry with the Capitol Hill Police for letting fans of Donald Trump attack the U.S. Capitol. He said there was unfair treatment because the criminals were black or Muslim. They probably would have been punished more severely. On December 8, 2008, Scarborough and Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski took over host John Gambling’s 12-year-running two-hour late-morning radio show. As of April 26, 2010, Scarborough said that the radio show was on “hiatus” so that it could be changed into a new three-hour show. The show didn’t come back.
