Wastes can be classified into many types. There are industrial, domestic, medical and sewage wastes. These wastes, if segregated and handled wisely, can be put to reuse and recycled. The Van Mahotsav is observed every year to promote afforestation and make people aware of the harmful effects of deforestation.

To keep our city clean, we must ban the use of plastic. We should follow the 4Rs policy to reduce, reuse, recycle, and restore. We must plant saplings and gather in small groups to educate the layman about the necessity of keeping our city clean.

We must adhere to the maxim, “Godliness is next to Cleanliness.” If we keep our city clean, positivity will boost in all its nooks and corners. It will lead to economic growth and healthy citizens. It will also cause a decrease in the number of hospitalisations every year. Diseases that are air and water-borne will come under control. Everyone will live a happy and healthy life.

We should keep our cities clean to have a healthy and standard lifestyle. Hygiene is essential for the well-being of an individual and a nation. It is the responsibility of every individual, and as we keep our homes clean, so shall we keep our cities clean. For a nation to thrive, it is essential to keep your city clean.

Narendra Modi’s Swacch Bharat Abhiyan focuses on certain sectors to promote hygiene and curb disease. The Van Mahotsav is observed every year to promote afforestation and make people aware of the harmful effects of deforestation. These programs direct us to plant trees and collect litter for proper disposal on a particular day. However, we need to bear in mind the need to do it regularly.

We must adhere to the maxim, “Godliness is next to Cleanliness.” If we keep our city clean, positivity will boost in all its nooks and corners. It will lead to economic growth and healthy citizens. It will help in the overall development of our country, and people will become more thoughtful and conscious of their responsibilities.

Many places in my city Kolkata lack proper drainage systems. During the monsoon season, the roads are flooded with muddy water and causing stagnation. Stagnant water breeds mosquitoes and flies. It can cause various infections and skin diseases, or allergies. Loss of biodiversity is a major loss for our environment, which is caused due to mismanagement of waste.

Spitting in public places is a sickening sight that we witness every day on roads, stairwells, parks, subways and metro stations. It is disgusting and uncivilised. Citizens lack awareness, education and culture. Imbibing these qualities and making them literate shall help overcome their urge to cause a nuisance. We must work hard to make the City of Joy a clean place.

There is a need to remodel the public transport as they are so old that they release soot and toxic gas causing air pollution. It causes lung cancer, asthma and allergies. Keeping our city clean will keep us proactive and healthy. A lack of public toilets also causes a lot of pollution, stinking odour and breeding of mosquitoes.

A tremendous amount of waste has been generated from construction work. It can be overcome or reduced to a great degree by making the process faster. Installation of dustbins in a public area shall take us a long way in maintaining hygiene. Along with the government, each citizen must work in a collective spirit to keep our cities clean. It is truly said that a green city is a clean city.

We must practice habits related to personal hygiene such as washing hands and brushing teeth. It will help to keep bacteria, viruses, and illnesses away. Also, we can maintain cleanliness by not littering and letting others litter. We should not throw garbage here and there. We must use the dustbin.

Moreover, we should clean the dustbin once in a day. If not cleaned, flies and mosquitoes would spread and cause harmful diseases. Also, it provides greenery and life to everyone. Moreover, Narendra Modi has initiated a cleanliness campaign in the near past.

This was known by the name “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” or “Clean India Movement”. He focused on the sweeping of streets for maintaining cleanliness. Students must listen to his motivating speech on cleanliness. We all should try at our levels to be a part of such a good program.

Now, I would like to conclude the topic. We should maintain physical as spiritual cleanliness. It is not a single person’s responsibility to maintain cleanliness. Also, it is not only the work of government and municipal corporations to maintain cleanliness. We all can contribute to the individual-level by using eco-friendly measures.

Similar to the basic necessities of life like food, water, shelter, cleanliness also holds great value in life. It is, in fact, one of the most important requirements for a healthy living. By maintaining cleanliness, we can show gratitude towards our Mother Earth in a true way.

Speech on the Importance of Cleanliness: Guide and Sample

Anushka kala.

  • Speech Writing

speech on keep your town clean

Admit it, almost everyone has had to speak on the topic of ‘Cleanliness’, whether it’s school, college, or the workplace. It is, but ironical, that a topic so common and well-known would stump many a writer when asked to put pen to paper on the subject.

Here’s how you can write a speech on the importance of cleanliness , as well as, learn and follow a few universal techniques that could help you out for all your future speeches, as well!

Structuring Your Speech: Pointers to Help You Write a Great One

The most common dilemma is where to begin from. A vast topic like Cleanliness, can be approached through different perspectives.

Whatever your approach may be, always remember that you need to answer the 5Ws + 1H through your speech:

What (is cleanliness?) Why (is it important?) When (do we start?) Where (do we start from?) Who (is responsible?) How (can it be inculcated?)

1. Start Strong

The most memorable of speeches have a solid introduction. The opening is considered to be absolutely crucial as it determines the level of interest your audience will have.

Attention spans are at their peak in the beginning, and a speaker must take full advantage of that. Thus, you have to think out of the box.

When it comes to writing about cleanliness, a topic widely spoken about, one must try to go beyond the cliche.

Hence, if you start with a line as common as “Cleanliness is Godliness” or “Good morning, I’m here to talk about cleanliness”, you might lose out on the attention of your audience.

Instead, make it interactive. Don’t directly introduce yourself. Ask them a question and try to break the ice.

We have written an entire on  15 powerful speech openings with examples. Check it out to get some inspiration on how to start your speech!

2. What’s the Point?

speech on keep your town clean

When a topic is allocated/chosen, it is important to know what the objective of your speech is .

This is possible only when you know your audience well enough to estimate what they wish to take away from your speech.

Of course, your speech must be comprehensive enough to cover all aspects of such a vast topic. But, it also shouldn’t be so vague and scattered, that the audience ends up missing the point.

Once you know what the objective of the speech is, you will automatically be able to know what to emphasise on when you structure your speech.

For example, if your speech on cleanliness is required to generate awareness and participate in a Cleanliness Drive, then enough emphasis needs to be laid on how important it is for one to be clean, not only individually, but also as a community.

3. Set the Tone

tone and voice modulation are required for public speaking

A speech on cleanliness can be delivered in scenarios innumerable– whether you’re a student, teacher, manager, or CEO, cleanliness is one aspect that is ubiquitous, irrespective of what your life entails.

Thus, the tone differs accordingly. If it’s a competition in school or college, the tone is formal, while if you’re campaigning for an initiative, the tone is more affirmative, driven, and demanding.

It is important to know what the situation demands, and set the tone with respect to that. Often, people underestimate the power of tonality.

Every quiver, inflection, pause, and emphasis counts. These help break the monotony of a speech, which would otherwise make it dull and uninteresting.

This article is all you need, to know about voice modulation and tonality.

4. Tell Them a Story

Aforementioned, the structure of the speech . We know how important it is to address the 5Ws + 1H through your speech, for a topic like cleanliness.

Apart from that, it is essential for one to keep a speech outline ready– basically, what you have to say, when.

Simply put, first comes the introduction , then comes the body , and lastly the conclusion . These are three, equally important aspects that formulate your speech.

The point of structuring your speech is to take your audience on a journey and give them some direction. The best of speakers don’t just speak, they narrate. They tell you a story , even if it isn’t theirs to tell and make you feel like you’re a part of what they’re saying.

Irrespective of the topic, the point is to have your audience wholly immerse themselves, throughout your story.

To take cleanliness as an example, a topic that’s not usually looked at as one to narrate about, try telling people stories from your own personal experiences– how you’ve come across unbearably filthy areas, and how it’s affected you and your family. Make it personal and take your audience with you on this journey.

5. The Trick of Theatrics

speech on keep your town clean

Public speaking is a performance in itself. It isn’t restricted to simply speaking well-written material–that’s just half of it. The other half comes to delivery.

How you deliver your written material, is what will grab the attention of your audience.

When you take cleanliness, it is something that is to be inculcated consciously and imperatively. Thus, through your tone and gestures, you would have to convey that necessity and express the urgency of the situation.

This can be expressed through tone, gestures, body language , and eye contact.

Walk around, look your audience in the eye. Emote through the inflection in your tone. Use your hands ; gesture the necessity. This is how body language is used to convey what you feel.

This article will help you harness the power of body language.

6. The Endgame

Just like you started with a bang, you must also end it similarly. You seal the deal with a strong ending, leaving your audience spellbound, asking for more.

The graph of your speech should have an upward slope, and shouldn’t go down towards the end. The applause that you would command after ending on such a high note, would resonate throughout.

Your conclusion should reiterate your objective and summarise your speech. Once again, don’t stick to a cliche “Thank You” or “Hope you enjoyed this.”

If you notice, the best speeches never end on such notes. They either end with a strong quote or poem or leave by asking a question/ interacting with the audience.

When it comes to cleanliness, repeat and emphasize on the urgency–how cleanliness is the need of the hour. Leave them with a question, possibly around the grim future that must await, if adequate measures aren’t taken. Don’t end abruptly.

This article is the ultimate guide to help you end your speech, with maximum impact.

Sample Speech on the Importance of Cleanliness

Imagine feeling the warmth of the sun on your skin, as you place your feet in cool waters. You look up to see clear blue skies and all around you, there exists an endless beige, of velvet sands and an atmosphere of pure joy. That’s how I’d imagined it–a trip to the beach. Yet, I didn’t get that. Would you like to know why? Spotless, clear, cleansed, scrubbed– these are words we use to describe something clean. That’s what cleanliness, in a general sense is. A person is neat and clean, when they’re well-dressed and well-groomed, while an area is clean when dirt, plastic, and other materials aren’t strewn around. Anything clean attracts a person. It’s as simple as that. So, a few weeks ago, when I’d planned a trip to the beach with my friends, I was SO excited! It’d been ages since we’d made plans, and frankly, it was long overdue. “It’s a beach, what could go wrong?” is what I’d thought to myself. Little did I know… The day finally arrived, and there it was. I could see the beach from a distance. It looked just like I’d imagined it. We quickly removed our shoes, and placed our feet into the sand, when all of a sudden, I felt like my right foot hadn’t quite sunk into the sand, like my left one. I looked down and found a banana peel caught between my toes. That really sucked all the excitement out. I looked around and found plastic bottles, polythene bags, tin cans, paper plates, peelings, pieces of cloth–the list could go on. When did something so beautiful become tampered with? And who’s responsible? Even as we came closer to the waters, I could see remnants of garbage floating by, and suddenly, the beach just wasn’t as appealing anymore. With this late, yet sudden realisation, I couldn’t look at anything the same way. There’s garbage all around us. And, we’ve perhaps gotten so accustomed to it, that the heap of garbage on the corner of our street will just happen to stay and remain that way. Cleanliness- a term so multidimensional, that it invades every aspect of our lives. Some may even say that it’s a state of mind which translates onto our day-to-day activities. Yet, a fleeting thought– if we’re all so familiar with what cleanliness entails and how inculcating it improves our quality of life, why are we STILL in a position where it’s the need of the hour? How do we fix this? They say charity begins at home, and that’s where we begin. A simple reorganising of your closet, or room is a great start. Of course, it doesn’t end there. Start with your area of residence, make note of the kind of garbage disposal and recycling it uses, stay informed, and inform others, as well. You see, it’s very easy to pin the blame on others for ‘not doing their job’ when it comes to an unclean environment. But, what if, we’re somehow the root cause? Are we doing EVERYTHING we possibly can to make a difference? I started my speech by asking you to ‘imagine’ and envision something we’ve once had, and no more do. We’ve somehow found ourselves in a situation where the real has turned into the unreal, instead of it being the other way around. I started my speech by asking you to ‘imagine’, as that, unfortunately, is the only place you’d find bliss, so taintless and untouched. I started my speech by asking you to ‘imagine’, and I now end it with a sincere request. The time to do our bit starts from NOW. Every action counts. We owe it to our planet, society, and ourselves. Thank you for listening.

Download the sample speech on the Importance of Cleanliness here.

If you notice, in the sample speech above, the introduction isn’t a common “Good Morning”, rather a direct mention of the topic. A story has been added, to grip the audience, and certain words have been put in capitals, to help you understand where to emphasise on.

These guidelines will not only help you with your speech on cleanliness, but also, for other speeches as well!

Speech On Cleanliness - 10 Lines, Short and Long Speech

  • Speech On Cleanliness

Cleanliness is really important in everyone's life. It is essential for maintaining a healthy body, mind, and spirit. Every individual is taught the value of cleanliness from childhood, particularly in school. Teachers use a variety of strategies to teach kids this vital lesson, such as having them prepare speeches about the value of cleanliness.

10 Lines Speech On Cleanliness

Short speech on cleanliness, long speech on cleanliness, cleanliness: what is it, how can i keep my house clean, importance of cleanliness..

Speech On Cleanliness - 10 Lines, Short and Long Speech

Cleanliness is directly linked to our health and hygiene. A clean environment helps prevent the spread of diseases and reduces the risk of infections. We must maintain cleanliness in our homes, offices, schools, and public places to ensure good health.

A clean and tidy environment not only looks good but also has a positive impact on our mental well-being. It creates a welcoming atmosphere and makes us feel more relaxed.

Cleanliness is a shared responsibility. It is not just the job of a single person or department, but it is the responsibility of everyone. Keeping our surroundings clean demonstrates our commitment towards our community and the environment.

Cleanliness is also about preserving the environment. Keeping our environment clean helps conserve natural resources and prevent pollution. Our responsibility is to reduce waste, recycle, and use environmentally-friendly products to protect our planet.

Cleanliness has a positive impact on the economy as well. A clean and well-maintained environment attracts tourists and businesses and helps create a positive image of the country.

Cleanliness is a reflection of our personal pride and self-respect. It shows that we take pride in our surroundings and take our responsibilities seriously.

Cleanliness must be taught and practised from a young age. Children must be taught the importance of keeping their surroundings clean and instilled as a habit.

Cleanliness is a social responsibility that we all must take seriously. By keeping our surroundings clean, we are contributing to the well-being of ourselves and our families and the well-being of our communities and society at large.

A clean and well-maintained environment can significantly improve the quality of our lives. It can help reduce stress, increase happiness, and create a sense of pride and ownership.

When we lead by example and clean our surroundings, we set a good example for others. Our actions can inspire others to adopt cleanliness as a habit and positively impact the community.

One crucial component of a good life is cleanliness. It is a state of being free from dirt and germs or clean. As important as breathing, eating, and drinking are hygiene habits.

Since cleanliness is equated with godliness—maintaining cleanliness is equivalent to dedicating oneself to God—this practice should be encouraged early. We protect ourselves against multiple viruses and harmful germs that can make us ill by keeping ourselves and our environment clean.

We can all help keep ourselves and our environment clean with a little effort. Every day, we should take a bath, wash our hands before and after meals, brush our teeth twice a day, comb our hair once a day, and follow other personal hygiene routines. To keep our surroundings clean, we should always put trash in the trash can, sweep and mop the floor, pick up any food scraps that fall on the floor when dining, and engage in other similar behaviours.

We may ignore our surroundings to maintain our cleanliness or hygiene, such as after cleaning the house or dumping rubbish on the road. There are better ways to go. Always make little efforts to keep things tidy, and refrain from doing things that detract from the beauty around us.

Mahatma Gandhi, referred to as the "father of the nation" by all Indians, toiled assiduously to free India. He once remarked, "Sanitation is more important than independence" and "You cannot make your towns and cities clean as long as you do not take the broom and the bucket in your hands."

When we talk about cleanliness, people frequently have broad conceptions of it. People have started to notice clean cities, clean highways, clean environments, and clean nations. When people think about these widespread phenomena, they forget about themselves. On a personal level, cleanliness starts.

Everyone should put themselves first before anything else. Since general sentiments or notions about cleanliness can be realised, everyone should keep themselves clean and hygienic. As Mahatma Gandhi also said, "Be the change you wish to see in the world," everyone should start with themselves to enhance the cleanliness of the entire country.

By taking a daily bath, washing one's hands and feet after entering from the outside, keeping one's home tidy and hygienic, cutting one's hair and nails as needed, etc., one can keep themselves tidy. Most people disregard and casually approach these tasks, which does nothing to help them maintain their hygiene.

Everyone knows that having good physical health helps maintain good mental health and that someone in good physical and mental health can give their all to their country. Maintaining a clean environment makes it possible to practise excellent hygiene, which is necessary to stay healthy.

First and foremost, as I already mentioned, we are in the first stage. One can keep oneself and their family healthy by taking a daily bath, maintaining one's hair and nails, regularly cleaning the home, washing the floors, etc... He can also help society by promoting environmental preservation.

There are many ways to create a clean environment, such as limiting plastic and related trash, recycling and reusing resources like water, using bicycles or electric vehicles, planting trees, maintaining clean surroundings, and many more. Personal satisfaction is also guaranteed in this way.

Further development results from beginning with ourselves. When someone keeps themselves, their environment, and their surroundings clean, it signals to other people that they should do the same. Additionally, this message is transmitted to the following generations. Cleanliness spreads from a clean home to a clean village, then a clean city, state, and nation.

Our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in 2014 on Mahatma Gandhi's birthday, keeping in mind the value of cleanliness for everyone. This has had fantastic results; there has been a significant increase in the number of toilets across the nation, improving sanitation for people.

Cleanliness is extremely important, like other fundamental needs like food, water, and shelter. It's one of the most important requirements for living a healthy life. By keeping the environment clean, we can truly thank Mother Earth. I hope you all enjoyed it, found some motivation to maintain cleanliness, and will encourage others to follow your lead.

Speech on Importance of Cleanliness

Cleanliness is more than just a good habit; it’s a way to keep ourselves healthy and happy. It’s not just about a neat appearance, but also about maintaining a clean environment.

You might not realize it, but cleanliness plays a vital role in our lives. It keeps us safe from diseases and creates a positive atmosphere around us.

1-minute Speech on Importance of Cleanliness

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I stand before you today to speak on a topic that is essential to our health and well-being – the importance of cleanliness. Cleanliness, as many say, is next to godliness. It is an integral part of our lives, from our homes to our workplaces, and from our bodies to the surroundings.

Cleanliness is not just about keeping oneself clean. It also refers to the cleanliness of our homes, our neighborhoods, and our communities. When we keep our surroundings clean, we reduce the chances of developing illnesses and diseases. It helps maintain a healthy environment, which is conducive to our physical and mental wellness.

Moreover, cleanliness is not a responsibility that should rest with a few. It is a collective responsibility that we all must acknowledge. Each of us has a role to play in keeping our surroundings clean. Even simple acts like properly disposing of our waste, avoiding littering, and regularly cleaning our homes can make a huge difference.

Cleanliness also fosters a sense of discipline and responsibility. It teaches us to respect our environment and the people around us. It reminds us that we share this world with others and that we should strive to make it a better place for everyone.

In conclusion, cleanliness is a fundamental aspect of our lives. It is about safeguarding our health, respecting our environment, and promoting a sense of community. Let us all pledge to keep our surroundings clean and encourage others to do the same. Remember, a clean world is a happy world.

2-minute Speech on Importance of Cleanliness

I stand before you today to emphasize the importance of cleanliness in our lives. Cleanliness, as we all know, is a vital part of our lives. It is not only about making the surrounding clean, but it also refers to the cleanliness of our mind, body, and soul.

Cleanliness gives us a cheerful mind and fills us with positive energy. A clean body can prevent many diseases. Just as we clean our bodies daily, we should also cleanse our minds by avoiding negative thoughts and embracing positivity. It is a known fact that a clean environment can uplift our mood, keeping us happy and healthy.

Hygiene is nothing but a series of practices we perform to maintain cleanliness. Proper hygiene practices can save us from many harmful diseases by removing bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens. It can also prevent the spread of infections. So, cleanliness doesn’t just make us look good; it also keeps us healthy and safe from diseases.

Cleanliness is also important for our environment. Littering not only makes our surroundings dirty but also causes harm to the environment and living organisms. Pollution is a major concern for our planet today, and one of the ways we can combat this is by maintaining cleanliness around us. A clean environment promotes healthy living and ensures the well-being of all living creatures.

Moreover, cleanliness is directly proportional to discipline. A clean and tidy workspace or home reflects the discipline and orderliness of the person. It helps in better organization, improves productivity, and contributes to overall personal growth and development.

Cleanliness is also a reflection of one’s personality and character. A person who maintains cleanliness shows respect for themselves and others around them. It is a trait that is appreciated and admired by everyone. Besides, cleanliness also plays a crucial role in creating a good impression.

Lastly, cleanliness is about responsibility. It is about taking responsibility for our environment, our health, and our actions. By doing our part in keeping our surroundings clean, we are contributing to a better and healthier society.

Making a cleaner and nicer world starts locally. Once you are able to keep your own home neat and tidy, you can take the extra effort to work on beautifying your town with friends and neighbors. An organized clean-up effort and some good follow-up work can make a nicer world for everyone to live in. Help clean up your home and neighborhood, and keep it that way.

Things You Should Know

  • Contribute to the neighborhood's cleanliness by keeping your own home looking its best. Add plants, mow the lawn, maintain the sidewalks, and clear your storm drains.
  • Help out around your neighborhood by picking up litter, picking up after your pets, and reporting graffiti. You might even start a community garden!
  • Talk to your neighbors about organizing a clean-up effort to get more people involved. [1] X Trustworthy Source State of New York Official website for the State of New York Go to source

Keeping Your Home Clean

Step 1 Add plants.

  • Aside from looking good, plants take in carbon dioxide from the air and expel oxygen, making for a more breathable atmosphere.
  • Be sure to trim branches from bushes and trees if they begin to obstruct public walkways and paths.

Step 2 Mow your lawn.

  • Good lawn work will also involve pulling out weeds and take care of ugly brown patches. Don’t ignore those parts of lawn care.

Step 3 Maintain your sidewalks.

  • Many municipalities, especially cities, will fine property owners who do not keep their sidewalks clean and clear. A little bit of effort on your part will not only help your neighborhood clean, but prevent you from having to pay a fine.

Step 4 Keep your storm drains clear.

  • When putting your trash and recycling out, make sure that the lids are on tightly and that they won't get knocked over.
  • Don't blow or rake leaves and lawn clippings into the street.
  • Avoid using salt or sand on your driveway. When the snow thaws, the sand and salt will slow into the storm drain and pollute the waterways.
  • Avoid using fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides on your lawns. When it rains, these can flow into the storm drain too.

Helping Out Around Your Neighborhood

Step 1 Pick up litter.

  • Consider having a clean-up day where you and your friends go around your block and pick up trash.
  • Pay attention to lawns, bushes, and gutters. This is where most trash tends to collect.

Step 2 Pick up after your pets.

  • Be sure to take care of the plants. Work as a community to take care of the garden; don't rely on just one or two people to keep it flourishing.
  • Herb and vegetable gardens are a great way to give back to your community. This way, you can help your neighbors put food on their tables.

Step 4 Adopt a highway

  • Every state, county, and town government can have a particular set of rules for adoption and what it means. Make sure you check the process for applying and maintaining your highway.
  • Some cities also allow you to adopt bus stops as well.

Step 5 Report graffiti.

  • If you see graffiti on a local business, or other private property, talk to the property owner about cleaning it up. You may even be able to do it yourself. [9] X Research source
  • If you see someone doing graffiti, do not confront them about it. Tell the property owner or a local authority.

Step 1 Talk to your neighbors about a clean-up effort.

  • At this first stage, consider the roles some people will play in organizing, advertising, gathering supplies, and doing any of the things necessary to get the effort put together.
  • Don’t be afraid to talk to pre-existing community groups. Service organizations like the Shiners or Boy and Girl Scouts will probably be interested in helping to keep the neighborhood looking nice. Anti-crime organizations like Neighborhood Watch will probably be willing to deal with the aftermath of crimes like graffiti.

Step 2 Talk to your local government.

  • There is strength in numbers. Have several people contact your local government. You can also try putting together a poll.

Step 3 Plan your event.

  • You don’t want to think too big, like cleaning up the entire town. Instead, focus on picking up trash in a contained area like an alley, weed removal and landscaping for an abandoned field, or painting over graffiti. You’ll want something you and your team can accomplish in a day or a few hours, to make sure you get the task done.
  • Consider your location. Make sure that you will have a place for trash, and for people to park or arrive at the site easily. Be careful not to tie up traffic or cause trouble for other people in the area.
  • Gather your supplies. Make sure you have the right materials necessary to do the clean-up properly. If you are cleaning up a location, for example, make sure you have rakes, brooms, and shovels, as well as trash bags to hold what you pick up. Consider if you need heavy equipment, and make sure someone there is trained and licensed to use it. In all cases, you should have a first-aid kit handy.
  • If you are potentially going to deal with hazardous chemicals, you definitely need a plan for gathering those items and depositing them in the proper location. Make sure you are familiar with your town or city’s collection center, and are properly equipped for dealing with those items.

Step 4 Publicize what you are doing.

  • If you do post flyers, remember to take them down after the clean-up. You don’t want them staying there until they fall off and become litter.

Step 5 Perform the clean-up.

  • If there are young children or teens, make sure that they work in groups and have a trusted adult chaperoning them.

Step 6 Wrap up your event.

  • Once you are finished, consider some way to thank everyone who took part. A small pizza or ice cream party, or even just hanging out a bar (if you’re all of age) afterward can be a fun way to celebrate your success.
  • Think about your next event. Chances are your neighborhood will always have something else that you can do to help. Think about what worked or didn’t work about this clean-up effort, and find ways to improve for next time.

Community Q&A

Community Answer

  • If you are looking for a good time to get people’s attention for a cleaner neighborhood, Earth Day (April 22) can be a good choice. Set it as the first meeting of your Block Watch, or use it as a day to suggest a group clean-up effort. Thanks Helpful 0 Not Helpful 0

Speech on Clean India in English for Students

As rightly said, cleanliness is next to godliness, cleanliness in life helps us lead healthier lives. Cleanliness and keeping our environment clean should not be practised as a one-time thing. It should be lived and inculcated in our lifestyle. The Indian government has taken steps towards a clean India. In this article, we will see the Speech on Clean India is given to raise awareness and can be given in different ways. The speech can be a Long Speech on Clean India and a Short Speech on Clean India.

The Clean India Mission is a campaign aimed at making India a cleaner and greener nation. To do this, it has set aside funding for a variety of activities aimed at enhancing people's hygiene and well-being. The Swachh Bharat Mission is one such project, with the goal of making India clean by 2019. The government's Clean India Mission aims to clean up the Ganga. More investments in the Ganga's water quality are required to make this objective a success. India is a country founded on the belief that it has a responsibility to serve its people.

Clean India Speech in English

Long Speech on Clean India

This kind of Speech on Clean India is helpful for students in grades 8-12, as there are many awareness programs held now especially in schools so students can present with a Clean India Speech In English. Take a look below.

Good morning everyone, this is ABC (mention your name) and I am very grateful for this opportunity to speak on such an important topic like Clean India that can have immediate effects in our everyday lives as well. Cleanliness is something that we have been taught since our childhood. The value and importance of it are instilled in our young age. Our parents and teachers have always been vocal about keeping clean rooms and classrooms. Cleanliness for personal hygiene has been the purpose to live a healthy life free from diseases. But when one strives to keep the surroundings clean, the nation also becomes disease-free and lives a healthier life.

Cleanliness not only impacts our lives personally but also helps the people around us, society, the environment, and the country as well. If there is one major difference between India and abroad that is vividly noticeable is the clean streets and cleaner environment. In our country sadly, though we take good care of ourselves and our own homes we easily neglect the streets and roads.

At home, we can separate biodegradable and non-biodegradable matter and send them for recycling instead of dumping. Everyone tends to irresponsibly litter all kinds of waste onto the streets and the natural environment. This pollutes and disrupts the ecosystem and affects every living being. This was a cause for concern when pollution levels in India were significantly rising.

Our honorable Prime Minister, Narendra Modi shed light on the importance of cleanliness. This philosophy echoed the values of the Father of our nation, Mahatma Gandhi. So on 2nd October, which is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti Prime Minister announced the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Campaign in 2014.

The objective of this mission as the name suggests is to clean India. The Clean India campaign focuses on sanitation and hygiene in all parts of the country. The budget was over 30 billion dollars to invest in rural villages, small towns as well as cities.

In rural India, one of the major hindrances to cleanliness is open defecation, so the campaign set out to build more toilets to promote the need for sanitation. This is important because it allows men and especially women to avoid health problems caused due to lack of proper sanitation facilities. More public toilets were constructed in the rural areas of India.

This unique way of combating a problem from the ground level was noteworthy and it garnered a lot of international attention. Anything that has to be done on a national scale is difficult to execute but the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan campaign strives to make India cleaner by 2022.

Now that we are aware of the benefits of living a clean life at home, school, and work that will inevitably benefit society and country, we should pledge to effectively practise it starting now to live a cleaner and healthier life.

Short Speech on Clean Ind ia

This kind of Speech on Clean India which is explained in short and simple words is very useful for students in grades 4-7.

Good morning everyone, I am grateful for this opportunity to speak on the topic of Clean India. As we have heard of the phrase cleanliness is next to godliness which refers to God residing in clean places. As the years go the need for cleanliness is becoming more important as this is the right way to lead healthy and disease-free lives.

Cleanliness must be a ritual and a lifestyle choice that one has to make and practice wherever they go, be it school, college, workplace, industries, and even when we are in nature. Especially when it comes to littering waste everywhere it raises the concern of making it a breeding ground for bacteria and viruses which leads to many diseases.

In rural India, it is more alarming to see the lack of basic sanitation facilities and they openly defecate. This is harmful to the human body as in women it leads to many diseases. To combat these problems and start the work from ground level, our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi in 2014 announced Swacch Bharat Abhiyan on Gandhi Jayanti.

The budget is a whopping over 30 billion dollars and changes made have already started to show incredible progress. Many public toilets were built. The importance of proper sanitation was spread in the villages and building toilets at home was encouraged. This keeps the body disease-free and adds to the mission of Clean India. In conclusion, I would like to add, cleanliness is not just limited to personal hygiene, one should also be responsible for the society we live in and the planet we leave for the next generation.

10 Line Speech on Clean India

This kind of Speech on Clean India is helpful for students in grades 1-3 as it provides the needed information in a few lines.

The Clean India Campaign or the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Campaign was started in 2014 by our honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 2nd October.

The objective of this campaign is in the slogan- One Step Towards Cleanliness.

To make our country India clean we should take small steps, starting at home and our nearby surroundings.

Clean surroundings are of concern in all parts of the country be it rural or urban.

Especially in rural areas, where people openly defecate and are more vulnerable to catching diseases and polluting nature as well.

Open defecation was one of the main agendas to first solve in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

This issue also gives rise to more problems like contaminating drinking and cleaning water.

The problem was dealt with by creating awareness among people of the villages and small towns and explaining the importance of cleanliness.

With budgets in the billions for the campaign, the first step was to build toilets and urge people to use them instead of inviting health problems.

The Clean India mission requires all our support and contribution and we should strive to contribute to this cause for a healthier life.

Swacch Bharat Abhiyan is often referred to as the Swachh Bharat campaign, the Clean India Mission, or the Clean India Push. The Indian government has launched a new initiative to clean up the country's backward statutory towns. To move the country forward, this effort comprises increasing cleanliness programs in rural areas, as well as cleaning streets, highways, and changing the nation's infrastructure.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the Swacch Bharat Abhiyan, an Indian government-led cleanliness campaign. The slogan "Swachh Bharat Abhiyan" has become synonymous with all Indian citizens. Our Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, launched this initiative on Mahatma Gandhi's birthday, October 2nd. And it's one of the most well-received projects he's ever worked on. In the year 2014, he made an official announcement about this campaign.

Furthermore, it is one of several initiatives that caught the attention of millions of people and received national recognition. The campaign has impacted India's entire economy, including the film industry. The primary goal of this program was to eliminate open defecation in every region of India. It can be found in both rural and urban regions. Furthermore, the fundamental goal of this campaign is to promote the habit of cleanliness and hygiene in all public and private spaces.

Speech on Importance of Cleanliness – 1

Good Morning to our Hon’ble Principle, Vice Principal, Fellow Colleagues and Our Lovely Students!!

As we know that Mr. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of our country, has kick started the campaign called Swachh Bharat Abhiyan or ‘Clean India’ campaign with great gusto all across India to encourage people maintain high standard of cleanliness and hygiene at all places, be it our homes, workplaces, public places, streets/roads, etc so it becomes our responsibility too to inculcate the same spirit in our students.

Just like food, water, oxygen and other things are important for our existence, similarly cleanliness is also crucial for our healthy physical and mental makeup. Do we not keep hearing such news about people dying of diseases, such as Malaria, Jaundice, etc. that are borne out of filthy surroundings? Therefore, in order to prevent such cases the people of India should focus on maintaining cleanliness, which will help our country earn a respectable place in the eyes, souls, hearts and minds of the foreigners paying a visit to our country.

And, if every Indian citizen contributes to even some extent towards this Swachh Bharat Abhiyan then we cannot imagine how effective it will prove to be towards fulfilling the aim of this campaign. In fact, you can also teach people living in your vicinity or whom you know about the importance of cleanliness in their day-to-day lives.

However, dear students please also understand that you cannot force this on anyone. Cleanliness is a good habit and not everyone is born with it, so those who don’t practice cleanliness try and make them understand the benefits that cleanliness entails rather than forcing your viewpoint on others. Cleanliness can be of varied types, such as personal cleanliness, environment cleanliness, workplace cleanliness (such as our office, school, college, etc.). It doesn’t take much to maintain cleanliness in our day-to-day lives – just like we cook, eat, bathe, etc on a regular basis similarly maintaining cleanliness should also be made an integral part of our daily work lives. In fact, just by ensuring small-small things, such as throwing trash in the dustbin and not on the floor or road, not spitting or urinating on the road, etc. we can bring a substantial change in our surroundings.

We should not compromise with it and should make our little ones practice it right from their childhood so that they grow up as responsible individuals who know how to live a healthy life. This habit should be inculcated by parents in their children because parents; especially mother is the first mentor of a child who grooms him/her and helps giving shape to his/her personality.

When we know that Cleanliness is next to Godliness, so why are we still insensitive towards this issue? Unhygienic conditions can cause many serious health hazards including causing harm to the environment in the form of pollution. In filthy surroundings, germs spread all around, which we cannot see though our naked eyes and how fast these germs multiply we cannot possibly imagine. If pollution will increase in our environment – it will start breeding such diseases as asthma, cancer, chest congestion, lung infection thereby resulting in a person’s death.

So it’s high time when we should raise the consciousness of masses towards maintain cleanliness so that we can protect our environment and save the lives of hundreds of people who die due to unhygienic surroundings.

Speech on Importance of Cleanliness – 2

Good Morning to our Respectable Principal, Vice Principal, Teachers and My Dear Students!!

As you all know that our school has joined hands with other schools in the area for Clean Delhi Campaign, it has been considered appropriate to kick start this campaign right from our own institution where we as students will also get the encouragement to maintain cleanliness around us. But before we talk any further on this topic, let’s first understand what cleanliness is all about?

The term ‘cleanliness’ implies absence of dust, dirt, garbage, foul smell, stains, etc. You must have realized that most Indian places whether it’s a lane, street, railway station, government office, hospital or a bus stop look unclean and unpleasant to our eyes. In addition, the littered garbage, defaced walls and overflowing sewage result in the spread of diseases and clogging of water on the roads, which further aggravate the situation. The death toll rises as more and more people succumb to the diseases and die in the absence of proper treatment and care.

So to avoid this crisis, the natives of our country should put efforts towards maintaining cleanliness not only in their homes and working places, but in their surroundings too. A hygienic and clean environment creates happy souls and a fulfilling life. There is a famous idiom that says charity begins at home, likewise cleanliness of a city; village or town should first begin from people’s homes.

In fact, villages have become proactive in order to ensure cleanliness of their environment and hygiene of people inhabiting those villages. Other than public toilets, personal toilets too have been constructed in order to avoid defecation at open places. In fact, effective measures are being taken up for managing dirty water and solid waste. So when village folks are putting in concerted efforts, why we people living in well-developed cities should lag behind in this campaign? Please understand that cleanliness is as essential to human existence as oxygen, water and food. Also, it’s a foundation of discipline and hallmark of success because if a person can’t keep himself/herself and the immediate surrounding organized and clean, then how he/she would contribute towards the success of others. It’s not possible to maintain a healthy relationship with people in the absence of a clean environment. At least, a minimal level of cleanliness such as taking shower regularly, washing your hands after using toilet, protecting your feet from dust, throwing garbage in the dustbin, etc is expected from everyone.

Cleanliness is monumentally important and must be practiced daily. If we will keep ourselves and our surroundings clean, it will help in nation building exercise too because it will then encourage more and more foreign tourists to visit our land and appreciate its beauty, nature and living surroundings. Of course, no one wants to visit a foul land. So adopt a lifestyle and nurture a surrounding where there is no threat to nature and the living beings and everyone can live in a harmonious co-existence.

Speech on Importance of Cleanliness – 3

Good Morning my dear Sir, Ma’m and hello to all my friends.

For today’s morning Assembly, I have chosen Cleanliness as my topic. This is a very essential part of one’s routine, surroundings and hygiene.

Cleanliness is not only the physical, it is also the social and mental well being that helps in maintaining good personality and building a good impression on others. Cleanliness gives rise to good character by keeping body, mind and soul clean and peaceful.

Isn’t it that we all feel stronger and wealthier when we keep ourselves and our surroundings clean. It makes our aura positive and happy. Maintaining cleanliness is the essential part of healthy living because it is the cleanliness only which helps to improve our personality by keeping clean externally and internally.

Someone has rightly said that cleanliness is the way to godliness. This means that by maintaining cleanliness and having good thoughts brings people closer or near to the God. Personal cleanliness is considered as the symbol of purity of body and soul, which is crucial to get healthy and spiritual connection. Being clean is very essential for getting good health, positive well being and leading a moral life.

Our teachers are very keen on promoting cleanliness all around. This is because they are aware that in order to lead a healthy, happy and a peaceful life, we all should practice clean habits in every aspect of life because unhygienic conditions symbolize evil whereas cleanliness symbolizes purity.

It is not that difficult to keep ourselves clean or to keep our surroundings clean. We should do it for ourselves, for our inner peace and wealth. As human beings, it is our responsibility to promote safe and clean well being. Cleanliness helps us to create a positive public image, helps us in staying healthy and wealthy.

Maintaining cleanliness safeguards us from diseases and unhealthy social, physical and mental inner self. It is very simple to include cleanliness in our regular routine and make it our habit. We should never compromise with cleanliness, it is as necessary as food and water for us.

I am glad that my parents and teachers have always motivated me and have keenly put emphasis on maintaining environment clean. They have always demonstrated the importance of being tidy and clean. Every child should be conveyed the importance of cleanliness. Since childhood, it should be made an inherited value in them. Clean eating habits, clean clothing, not littering the stuff here and there, cleaning the toilet after their use are a few basic and very essential cleanliness tactics that one should understand and follow.

Friends, I hope, I have been able to share with you my thoughts on the importance of cleanliness. Please stay healthy by making yourself and your surroundings clean. Also, share your bit and make others aware about the benefits of cleanliness.

Thank you teachers and my friends. Thank You!

Speech on Importance of Cleanliness – 4

Good Morning everybody!

I want to thank my class teacher for considering me as the person who should bring forward the importance of cleanliness.

Friends; cleanliness is a very easy and crucial thing that we all should adhere to as individuals and also as the citizens of one country. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has specially launched a plan ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’. He has launched this program by having faith in us that we will ensure our country’s cleanliness.

As being the citizen of the country, we all are responsible for cleaning any dirty place we see. We should keep our roads, tourist places, historical places, schools, colleges, office buildings, etc very neat and clean.

Cleanliness is not only required for the country. Charity begins at home, it is our home, school, college, society, community, office, organization, and everything even ourselves that should be kept clean. And it is not merely our choice, but our responsibility as being a human being. We need to clean ourselves, our home, surrounding areas, our society, community, city, garden, and environment on a daily basis.

It is not merely our physical looks; it is our mental and conscious well being as well. Cleanliness helps us make our social strengths. A clean person always seems a decent attraction for somebody to contact. People will like to appreciate and join with the ones who have clean habits. Similarly, if our country appears to be clean then how good it will feel when we see so many outsiders or tourists praising our country. Cleanliness should be our daily practice and not once in a lifetime or occasional thing.

Cleanliness of mind is also important along with physical cleanliness. As we keep our body clean, we must also keep our mind and heart clean. Lack of hygiene is the symbol of evil and cleanliness is the symbol of purity. Cleanliness is rightly said to be next to godliness. Spirituality cannot be preached until and unless the person is clean.

Children should be mandatory given lessons is cleanliness from the very beginning. They should be taught body hygiene. They should wash their hands before eating and take only clean food and pure water. At school, the children should be made to sit on properly cleaned chairs and benches. The elders should act as role models for children. They should themselves observe all the necessary rules regarding cleanliness.

I am sure that when we move from this desk we all be more dedicated towards the cleanliness drive than we were before. We as individuals are very strong to implement anything that we want to; cleanliness is merely one of our most important habits that are to be executed daily.

Thanks! Keep sharing the message of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan; it is our role to be played. Thank you! Have a great clean day!

  • exhibition of books by some publishers
  • famous authors, I poets to visit and interact with students
  • quizzes and competitions

Write your speech in 150-200 words. Answer:

LIBRARY WEEK

Respected Principal,-Vice-Principal, teachers, and friends! It gives me great pleasure to speak to you about the Library Week that our school has organised from 2nd to 9th September this year. This week is slightly different from the others. Here we have to shift the focus to mental attainment. The aim of celebrating this week is to inculcate reading habits among students. Reading, you know makes a man perfect. So new arrivals in the reference section such as the encyclopedia and dictionaries as well as general books will be displayed. National Book Trust and Oxford University Press are putting up an exhibition. We have invited Dr. Kailash Vajpayee to inaugurate the exhibition. He will autograph the books and interact with students. Other authors like Khushwant Singh and Ruskin Bond will also pay us a visit. During the week, a quiz competition will be organised. The Reading section will have more new magazines for teenagers’ interest. I appeal to all of you to spend as much free time in the library as you can. Thank you.

Question 2. Media has a stronghold on society. Write a speech in 150-200 words, on how media influences public opinion, to be delivered in the school assembly. Answer: Respected Principal Sir, honourable teachers and my dear friends, I, Mehak Prasad of class Xl-C, will enlighten you today on the fact that the media has a stronghold on society.

It influences public opinion significantly because people consider true whatever the media depicts, whether it is the electronic media like TV and Radio, social media like Facebook and Twitter, cyber media like the Internet and e-mail, or the print media like newspapers and magazines. However, in some cases, the actual situation is totally different from what is depicted in the media. Media dramatises the information to serve its own ends, and usually to gain popularity.

Everybody, yes everybody, are exposed to different forms of media. People are not always able to separate fact from opinion and believe or disbelieve what they see, hear, or read. This moulds their opinions and actions, thus enabling the media to have a stronghold on society.

Over reporting as well as under-reporting can lead to misinformed opinions. It is for the journalistic community to take initiative and seek to address the various concerns regarding the profession. The public also should be discerning enough to separate facts from opinions and form one’s viewpoint accordingly.

Speech Writing Exercises with Answers for Class 11 CBSE

Question 1. Peer pressure is useful for the development of an individual. If there is no peer pressure at all then there would be no goal or aim to succeed. Write a speech on the topic -‘Is Peer Pressure Beneficial or Not?’to be delivered on account of the Children’s Day celebration in your school. (150-200 words) Answer: Respected Principal Sir, honourable teachers, and my dear friends, on the occasion of Children’s Day, I am going to present my views on the topic ‘Is peer pressure beneficial or not?’

Peer pressure is beneficial as long as we know our limits. It is all upto us to be so strong, so firm, so unshakable, and filled with conviction of not going on the wrong track.

Peer pressure is not always bad. Peers may teach you good habits and encourage you to follow them. Looking at what others do can help you bring a positive change in your way of thinking. Your peers, their choices, and ways of life give you a glimpse of the world outside the four walls of your house. What they think about things in life, how they perceive situations, how they react in different circumstances can actually expose you to the world around them. Being part of a larger group of peers exposes you to the diversity in human behaviour. This makes you reflect on your behaviour and know where you stand. Peer pressure can lead you to make the right choices in life.

Your peers can, thus, influence the shaping of your personality in a positive way. Moreover, it’s not pressuring every time, sometimes it’s an inspiration, which makes you change for good.

Question 2. Racism is bad. Anyone and everyone can be exposed to racism. Write a speech in 150-200 words on the topic ‘Racism’ to be delivered in the morning assembly of your school. Answer: Respected Principal Sir, honourable teachers and my dear friends, good morning!

Why must I choose whom to befriend according to the colour of their skin? Is there anything written anywhere that makes one race above another? I am going to present my views on the topic ‘Racism’ today.

I am nobody to judge other people. In fact, we all are unique in our own way and we all should be judged on our individual and personal qualities.

We have lots of people who are filled with hatred-hatred pointed especially at the colour of the skin. But where does all this hatred come from? God has never conceived hate. Did he make us different just to see hatred and war? I don’t think so. Why can’t we carry out Martin Luther King’s dream about a world in peace and without any kind of racism?

Racism works against the principle of being equal and the right of all people to be treated fairly. Hating people because of their colour or other factors is wrong. We all have to stay together and thus, we need to make the effort to embrace and accept other cultures. This can start with the simple act of friendship. Let us start today.

Question 3. The actions and behaviour of senior college and university students are a far cry from the normal, decent and civilised. It’s all the more reprehensible because even girls are subjected to indecency and vulgarity. Write a speech on the topic ‘Ragging’ in 150-200 words for your school’s morning assembly. Answer: Respected Principal Sir, honourable teachers and my dear friends, good morning!

Ragging deserves severe condemnation and needs to be consigned to the dustbin of discarded ideas. Today I am going to present my views on the serious issue of ‘Ragging’.

The practice has now become a source of uncivilised behaviour, which brings to the fore animal instincts of the practising youth. It deserves to be curtailed, curbed and ultimately abolished. It calls for strict action and punishment. Any mildness in this regard amounts to giving it a further fillip.

The raggers may put forth unsustainable arguments that it is meant to bring the freshers into the mainstream of campus life, that it helps in rounding up the angularities of the freshers who are awkward and uninitiated in the ways of college and university life. The supporters of ragging also hold forth that this results in understanding and mutual liking, which blooms into friendship.

On the contrary, many ragging incidents result into attempted suicides. Youngsters are subjected to unwholesome and unhealthy practir 3. Such actions breed hostility and a strong desire to seek revenge. The ragged youngster nurses th„* numiiiation in mind and next year, will take it out on a newcomer. The practice, thus, continues.

Hence, it calls for condemnation and a total ban of this practise of ragging.

teachers and my dear friends. Today, I, Shrishti of class XI wili give my vision of The Ideal Indian’.

I have always dreamed of India to be a great country which will be a role model for other countries of the world. It will be a place where everybody is honest, trustworthy, caring and respectful so that the common man lives his life without any fear and has access to all the basic amenities required to lead a happy and * comfortable life.

Principles of basic education and employment will be followed here so that every citizen is both educated and employed. The Indian of my dreams will execute his responsibilities first and then only assert his rights. This will lead to a society where law and order will be maintained and people with good deeds will be appreciated, whereas the wrongdoers will be punished. This will inturn lead to an inspiring and empowering feeling in the minds of the citizens. Moral values, culture and heritage will be preserved here and passed on to future generations. That is the India I dream of. The ideal Indian will try to shun all malpractices and help the government in furthering the causes of national integration and maintenance of law and order.

Question 2. You are Ashok, studying in class XI-B. You have been asked by your Principal to speak in the morning assembly on ‘The Importance of English’. Draft the speech in 150-200 words. Answer: Good morning, respected Principal Sir, teachers and my friends. Today, I, Ashok of class Xi-B, will highlight the importance of English in today’s scenario.

English is a universal language which is now needed to be known by everyone. Without English, one feels handicapped. If you travel to any part of the world, and even to some parts of India, knowledge of English sees you through. That is why most public schools in cities are teaching in the English medium. The primary reason is that parents want their children to be fluent in English.

To get a reasonable job, it is a must to be able to write, understand and speak English, as it is the language of communication. Due to this, most of the interviews for good jobs and even admission interviews for colleges are conducted in English.

Many people wish to study or work abroad. To know the local language may be difficult and learning it would take time, but if one knows English, it comes to one’s rescue. Even the best study materials for research work are available only in English, Computers which are widely used can usually be used only with knowledge of English.

Thus, English is a must in today’s scenario.

Question 6. Advertisements exercise a lot of influence on the common man. They have invaded man’s life through media. You have to speak on ‘The Effects of Advertisements on Consumers’ in the morning assembly. Write your speech in 150-200 words. You are Sana/Suresh of class XI-B. Answer: Good morning, respected Principal Sir, teachers and my friends. Today, I, Suresh of class XI-B, will speak on The effects of advertisements on consumers’.

These days media is everywhere, be it TV, radio, newspapers, magazines, the internet and other media. These media channels solicit advertisements to pay for their costs. The media is so full of advertisements that after every few minutes or pages, what you find is another round of advertisements. These repeated advertisements create a psychological effect on the viewers or listeners so that the product gets imbibed into their subconscious mind.

It is this excessive advertising that the consumers should be careful of, otherwise they will land up buying a heavily advertised product which may not be good. Young consumers specially children and teenagers are carried away by varied choices and end up spending a lot of money on buying products which they may not use at all.

Consumers need to be careful and must enquire before buying any product by researching and taking other people’s opinions who have already used a particular product. They should also utilise the available resources on social media through friends and other means before committing to any buying decisions.

The better informed consumer will not be carried away by advertisement alone and will judge a product in a balanced manner before buying it.

Question 7. You are the first speaker in the Inter-House Declamation contest being held in your school. The topic chosen for the contest is ‘Ban Child Labour’. Write your speech in 150-200 words. You are Ashwini/Anuradha. Answer: Good morning, respected Principal Sir, teachers and my friends. Today, I, Anuradha of Patel House, will speak on the given topic ‘Ban Child Labour’.

Child labour typically refers to employment of children below a certain age in organisations and industries with or without their legal permission. This problem is more acute in developing countries rather than developed countries primarily because of three reasons, namely low cost associated with child labour, the need of poor families to make their children work to get money and lack of will power for implementation of labour laws. Even within developing countries, it is the unorganised sector like shoe-making, safety matches, handmade clothes, bangles, carpet weaving etc that has a higher percentage of child labour.

The more disturbing part is the way children are treated during their employment. They are made to work long hours, not given proper food, deprived of basic sanitation and often exposed to hazardous chemicals during the course of their work. This results in lack of growth, injuries or at times, even death of children. It also deprives the children of tender care, right to basic education, love and time to play.

To stop child labour, the government must strictly implement labour laws and severely punish employers found guilty of illegal child labour. Then only we can promise a better future for the children of this country. The government must find ways to end poverty which is one of the root causes of child labour.

We all know that ‘a healthy mind lives in a healthy body’. To maintain this good health, we should live in a healthy environment and surroundings. The most important of these are the sanitary conditions. We should not throw our litter or waste material anywhere, but use the dustbins provided by the Municipal Corporation outside the home and waste bins inside our homes. Garbage should be properly disposed off otherwise it will spread all kinds of diseases.

We should also try to ensure that all drains are covered. Stray animals should not be allowed in the colonies so that they do not dirty the drains and other areas with their excreta. Slum dwellers should be made aware of the necessity of healthy surroundings. Also, the Municipal Corporation sanitation staff should be taken to task if they neglect their work.

Friends, it is our responsibility to keep our town clean. Each one should do his/her bit; then only will it pay off.

Question 9. Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise’ is a well-known saying. You are Kavi/Kavita of class XI. Write a speech in 150-200 words to be delivered in the school morning assembly on the benefits of rising early. Answer: Good Morning respected Principal Sir, teachers and my dear friends.

‘Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise’ is a famous quote attributed to Benjamin Franklin, the famous American scientist. How right he was! So today, I, Kavita of class XI, will speak about the benefits of rising early.

According to research conducted recently, students who consistently wake up early each day actually scored better in tests and overall grade points than those who woke later on. Of course, this is not simply a result of waking up early, but when you wake up early, you’re more likely to take part in a fixed routine, and most importantly, you will eat a good breakfast. Late risers tend to skip breakfast to make up for the lost time, but this is a bad idea because your body needs those nutrients in the morning for energy and focusing on your tasks. Some of the most successful people in the world are early risers. It’s simple: if you wake up early, you get more time to get things done. There are less distractions in the early hours of the day and your brain is charged and ready to work hard. You are at your efficient best and will get things done quickly and efficiently. When a man is healthy and wealthy, he automatically grows wise. Early morning is the best time for the students and other intellectual workers to go about their work. They are fresh after the night’s rest and there is not much noise at this time to disturb them.

Question 10. Shweta has to deliver a speech in the morning assembly on the topic: ‘The Generation Gap is destroying family life’. Write her speech in about 150-200 words. Answer:

THE GENERATION GAP IS DESTROYING FAMILY LIFE

Respected Chairman, honourable judges, members of the staff, and my dear Mends! I stand before you to speak my mind on “The Generation Gap is destroying family life’. There are many points to support this contention. The generation gap has caused à chasm between the old and the young. There is a clash of ideas and ideals, tastes, ways of thinking, and lifestyle. The young hanker after luxury, comfort, and material happiness. They believe in full enjoyment and complete freedom. The elders insist on moral and spiritual values. They advocate renunciation and control of desires. The children think that their parents are slaves to customs.

The generation gap is evident in behaviour and manners of the two classes. The elders believe in strict obedience to a superior authority. They want that children must respect their elders and learn to be polite. The children pine for freedom. They resent all sorts of curbs. They demand freedom of expression. They want to have a say in family affairs. They insist that their views must be given proper consideration. This leads to bickerings, heart-burning, and tension in the family.

The elders insist on discipline and strict compliance of their orders. They advocate smiling acceptance of punishment meted out for breach of discipline. The young insist on unrestrained freedom and frankness. They advocate freedom of self-expression and are unwilling to tolerate any interference in their personal affairs—career, love-affair, or marriage. Thus there is a wide gap between the two generations. This difference in their way of thinking and behaviour is destroying family life. Hence, I conclude that ‘The generation gap is destroying family life’. Thank you.

Speech on Keeping the School Neat and Clean

You are Ajay/Anu, Head Boy/Girl of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kanpur. You have seen some students of junior classes littering the school compound and verandahs with tiffin leftovers. It makes the school look unclean and untidy. Write a speech in 150-200 words to be delivered in the morning assembly, advising such students to keep the school neat and clean.

Respected Principal, teachers and my fellow students.

Today I, Anu, Head Girl, have come before you with an issue that is slowly, but surely becoming a major source of concern within our school compound. Regretfully, it has been observed that the students of junior classes litter the school compound and verandahs with tiffin leftovers. Such behaviour is simply unacceptable because it makes the school look unclean and untidy. In addition, leftover food attracts flies and other germs and bacterias, which harms one’s immune system and makes one fall ill again and again. There are many communicable diseases, which spread quickly either through air, water or food.

In order to avoid being sick all the time, it is mandatory to keep the premises clean, Students must try to finish their tiffins. If they are unable to do so, it is the students’ responsibility to throw leftover food or garbage in their respective bins i.e. use green bin for biodegradable waste and blue for non-biodegradable waste.

Students must also ensure that others are keeping the school premises neat and tidy. Not just the school, but one must keep their home and surroundings clean as well. I would like to conclude by saying that if everybody takes the initiative to keep their surroundings clean, eventually it will lead to a cleaner city, country and the environment. I urge all the students to take the initiative today, right now.

Middle East latest: Israel orders new evacuation in 'dangerous combat zone' in northern Gaza

The Israeli army has told people to leave in an area of northern Gaza close to where Israeli tanks made a new incursion overnight. Listen to a Daily podcast on how the conflict is worsening Yemen's humanitarian crisis as you scroll.

A legal challenge over the export of weapons from the UK to Israel for use in Gaza will be heard by the High Court this autumn.

The legal action has been brought by Palestinian human rights group Al Haq against the UK's business and trade department over its decision not to suspend licences for the export of weapons and military equpment.

Lawyers for Al Haq argued at a hearing today that the government was acting unlawfully, while a barrister representing the trade department said decisions had "at all times been lawful and, in particular, rational".

Judge Mr Justice Swift said a hearing of the legal challenge will take place in early October.

Israel has ordered new evacuations in an area of northern Gaza which it says is a "dangerous combat zone".

An Israeli army spokesperson said people are being urged to flee from the Beit Lahia area in the region's northeast.

The area lies a short distance from Beit Hanoun city, where Israeli tanks made a new incursion overnight (see more in 11.48 post).

There were also reports of shelling in the nearby city of Jabalia and district of Zeitoun.

Donald Trump has accused Joe Biden of being "no friend of Israel" in a speech attacking the current US president outside a court in New York City.

Referring to the pro-Palestinian protests taking place at universities across the US, the ex-president, Mr Trump said: "What's going on at the college level... is a disgrace and it's really on Biden.

"He has the wrong signal, he's got the wrong tone, he's got the wrong words. He doesn't know who he's backing. It's a mess," he said.

Mr Trump called Mr Biden the "worst president" in the US's history and said he was "no friend of Israel, that's for sure".

Israel's planned ground operation in Rafah is expected to last around six weeks and target areas where the military believes Hamas leaders are fighting and hiding, according to a report.

Egyptian officials told the Wall Street Journal that Israel is preparing to move civilians from the southernmost city in Gaza, where some 1.2 million Palestinians are sheltering, to nearby Khan Younis.

Earlier we reported that satellite images show a tent compound being built in Khan Younis ahead of the proposed operation (see 8.25 post).

The officials said civilians would be moved during a two or three week operation to shelters with tents, food distribution services and medical aid.

The evacuation would be carried out in coordination with the US, Egypt and other states, they told the WSJ. It's unclear when such an operation would take place.

Israel has vowed to press on with its offensive in Rafah despite pleas from several countries, including the US, for it to reconsider over the potential human toll. UK foreign secretary Lord Cameron previously said Israel should "stop and think seriously" before taking further action in Rafah.

Iran's president has warned that there could end up being "nothing left" of Israel if it were to attack Iranian territory.

In comments cited by Iranian news agency IRNA, Ebrahim Raisi said the "circumstances" would completely change in the event of an Israeli attack on Iran.

Tehran and Israel have both traded fire this month, sparking fears of an all-out war in the region.

Iran's 13 April attack was itself retaliation for a strike - attributed to Israel - on an Iranian consulate in Syria on 1 April. Israel later appeared to respond with a strike near a major air base and nuclear site in central Iran.

The claim that the IDF buried Palestinian bodies is "baseless and unfounded", it has said.

Earlier UN rights chief Volker Turk said he was "horrified" by the destruction of the Nasser and Al Shifa medical facilities in Gaza and reports of mass graves discovered there (see post at 10.25am).

Now, the IDF has said the operation in the area of Nasser Hospital was to locate hostages and missing persons, and bodies "buried by Palestinians in the area of Nasser Hospital were examined".

The examination was done in a "careful manner and exclusively in places where intelligence indicated the possible presence of hostages", it said.

"The examination was carried out respectfully while maintaining the dignity of the deceased. Bodies examined, which did not belong to Israeli hostages, were returned to their place," the IDF added.

Forces conducted a "precise and targeted operation" against Hamas in the Nasser Hospital area at the end of February, the IDF said.

"During the operation, about 200 terrorists who were in the hospital were apprehended, medicines intended for Israeli hostages were found undelivered and unused, and a great deal of ammunition was confiscated," it said.

"The activity was done in a targeted manner and without harming the hospital, the patients and the medical staff."

Hezbollah says it has launched its deepest attack inside Israel since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war.

The Lebanese militant group said it launched a drone attack targeting Israeli military bases north of Acre in northern Israel.

Acre lies some 20 kilometres from the Lebanon-Israel border.

The IDF said it had no information on its facilities being hit but said in a post on X that it intercepted two "suspicious aerial targets" off Israel's northern coast.

Israel earlier claimed to have killed two "key" Hezbollah militants in air attacks on southern Lebanon in the past day (see 11.13 post).

There appears to have been a development after a major blast at Iraq's Kalsu military base on Saturday.

Iraq's Popular Mobilisation Forces claimed the explosion - which killed a member of the Iraqi security force that includes Iran-backed groups - was the result of an attack.

The US denied involvement and the Iraqi military launched an investigation.

Iraq's state media is now reporting that the blast was the result of an explosion in ammunition and rocket storage.

It added that no warplanes or drones had been spotted in the sky above the Babil province, where the Kalsu site is based, at the time of the explosion.

We've more now on those reports that Hamas is planning to move its main political office from Qatar after more than a decade there.

Qatar has said there is no justification to end the presence of an office for Hamas in the capital of Doha while ceasefire talks continue.

Earlier, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Turkish president, said he did not believe the militant group would make the move (see post at 10.53).

Qatari foreign ministry spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari said his country was still committed to mediating hostage release and ceasefire discussions but that "frustration with attacks" on its efforts had prompted it to reassess its role.

A resident in northern Gaza has described her fear as Israel bombarded the area overnight in what appeared to be some of the heaviest shelling in weeks.

Civilians and Hamas media reported that Israeli tanks attempted a new incursion east of Beit Hanoun city in the northeast, with gunfire reaching some schools where residents had found shelter.

There was heavy shelling there and in nearby Jabalia overnight and into this morning. Residents also reported at least 10 strikes in quick succession in Zeitoun, nearly three miles southwest of Jabalia.

"It was one of those nights of horror that we had lived in at the start of the war. The bombing from tanks and planes didn't stop," said mother-of-six Um Mohammad, who lives just under a kilometre from Zeitoun.

"I had to gather with my children and my sisters who came to shelter with me in one place and pray for our lives as the house kept shaking," she said.

"I don't know if we will make it alive before this war stops."

Nearly four months ago, Israel's military withdrew troops from areas of northern Gaza it said were no longer controlled by Hamas - but has since carried out raids in places where it claims the militant group has regrouped.
