Monster Resume Writing Services: Is it worth it?

I am an Industrial Engineer student set to graduate in December.

I am currently applying/interviewing for jobs. So far I've applied to 80+ jobs on indeed, my universities job site, craigslist, or Monster.

However I've only had 5 interviews, no solid offers and some on-site interviews in the works.

I'm starting to suspect my resumes and cover letters aren't as great as I thought.

My question is this:

Does anyone have experience with Monster's Resume writing service? The most basic package is $129.

Monster is a good service, but it would help if the employers actually considered resumes with more than just a glance and toss in the trash. It's amazing that companies don't even afford phone calls to candidates that are completely qualified for the job. I'm sure they're letting many great employees slip away.

The day after I created this account

The day after I created this account, I've gotten dozens of calls for a data center technician that only pays 25hr and it's just contract work. These contract jobs are scams, offering benefits, then canning you after 3 months. It's a way to save money by not paying contract rates.

lack of distance options & poor quality listings

There are not enough distance options. I keep getting listings out of state. Often I keep getting emails with irrelevant job postings for jobs completely out of the fields I'm looking for or at a significantly farther commute than I'm looking for. I also don't like how many of the positions listed are not quick apply.

Job classification/categorisations need work.

The service does not account for people that are outside of the US and seeking to work 100% remote. The roles detail remote but there is always a caveat and you only find out by having to drill into the advertised role. I recommend you add a flag or icon to every role if there are 'other' conditions i.e. Need to reside in country. Save the job seeker a lot of time and wasted effort.

Some jobs may be of a hybrid nature where the work is done remotely but the customer needs someone in a specific location. These are set by the employer and you would need to discuss the specifics with them.

Too many fake job listings

Too many fake job listings. I waste a lot of time sorting through them. EDIT: Not speaking of jobs that are listed and unavailable. Specifically, jobs that are listed as "Data Entry", but are really surveys sites that you may or may not qualify for. Those are not jobs. It ends up being click bait and that is disheartening when you are needing employment.

Hi, thanks for the review. A job being live on the Monster site is not an indicator of the status of the job. Some employers will remove their jobs immediately once the position is filled. However, others may allow their job to remain on the site until the job has reached its full purchased duration. Some employers will leave their jobs on Monster for an extended period in order to build a pipeline of candidates to contact later.

How can monster still be in business

The site is horrendous and continually sends me irrelevant leads I can’t successfully unsubscribe from (which isn’t even legal). Even this survey couldn’t be filled out at all on a mobile device the first three times because you use spammy code to reveal the form content and ad blockers reject it. I have no idea how monster is still in business when a “director of customer success” job search in Massachusetts yields leads for Aldi grocery store clerk in iowa and Pennsylvania. It’s perverse. Y’all really need to think about what you’re doing or maybe try using the product.
