Why is Saving Earth so Important?

Our planet Earth is the only planet that provides us with raw materials, oxygen, food which we need for fuel, and other essential materials.

There are a number of reasons why saving the Earth is so important:

  • Our Earth is the only planet that supports life. Despite signs of organic molecules and water on other planets and moons, life is only known to exist on Earth. There would be nowhere else for us to go if not Earth.
  • Our Earth provides us with basic necessities such as medicine, food, clean water, and air to breathe.
  • The combustion of fossil fuels releases harmful greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, which traps heat and warms the earth. Rising sea levels, melting glaciers, and more extreme weather events are just a few of the negative effects of climate change that are already being felt.

Essay on Save Earth in 100 Words

The only planet in the cosmos that is known to sustain life is Earth. Since it is our home, we must take care of it.

There are numerous reasons why protecting the planet is crucial. To begin with, it is our only place of residence. There won’t be somewhere else for us to go if we destroy Earth. Second, Earth gives us food, water, air, and shelter—everything we require to survive. Third, a wide variety of biodiversity exists on Earth, which is vital to human health.

Unfortunately, the health of Earth is being threatened by human activity. Among the difficulties we confront are deforestation, pollution, and climate change.

To save the Earth, we can all do our part. Here are some actions you may take:

  • Cut back on the use of fossil fuels. Make more of an effort to walk or bike, drive less, and take public transit wherever you can.
  • Make the switch to alternative energy sources like wind and solar energy.
  • At home, use less energy and water.
  • Reduce trash via composting and recycling.
  • Encourage companies and groups that are engaged in environmental protection.

Both our own life and the survival of future generations depend on saving the planet. We can contribute to ensuring that our planet is healthy and habitable for many years to come by acting now.

Essay on Save Earth in 150 Words

Since the Earth is our home, it is up to us to preserve it. However, the health of the planet is in danger due to human activity. Among the difficulties we confront are deforestation, pollution, and climate change.

The most important environmental issue of our day is climate change. Greenhouse gases are released into the atmosphere, which causes the earth to warm. Among the detrimental repercussions of climate change that are already being felt are rising sea levels, melting glaciers, and an increase in extreme weather occurrences.

Pollution poses a serious threat to Earth as well. Among the materials we use to damage the air, water, and land are chemicals, plastics, and trash. Not only can pollution harm humans and wildlife, but it can also ruin ecosystems.

Deforestation is another issue. In this, the trees are removed and instead, buildings are constructed.  Forests filter water in addition to providing habitat for species and regulating the climate. Deforestation is one of the primary causes of both climate change and biodiversity loss.

We must take action to safeguard Earth from these threats. We can potentially reduce our carbon footprint by switching to renewable energy sources and consuming less energy. We can also reduce pollution by using less plastic, recycling, and composting. We can also safeguard forests by planting trees and promoting sustainable forestry practices.

Preserving the planet is essential for our own existence as well as that of future generations. To keep our world safe, each of us has a responsibility.

The only planet in the solar system where humanity can survive is Earth. Since our planet gives us access to fundamental essentials like clean water, fresh air, and food to eat, it is our duty as humans to make sure that it is habitable for future generations.

We can see that, among all the urgent problems, one of the most significant ones that affect humanity is climate change. Among the detrimental repercussions of climate change that are already being felt are rising sea levels, melting glaciers, and an increase in extreme weather occurrences.

Pollution is another major problem. The majority of the materials that are key to pollution of the air, water, and land are harmful chemicals, plastics that are carelessly thrown away, and other materials. This is not only harmful to humans and wildlife but also to the environment.

Deforestation is the third main issue; it is the removal of trees for construction or other purposes, like agriculture. One of the main contributors to both climate change and biodiversity loss is deforestation. Consequently, we need to act to defend Earth from these dangers.

We hope this essay on Save Earth helped you with some knowledge of some of the pressing issues we face on a daily basis and what we can do to save our planet.

The urgency of environmental conservation.

The environment is the lifeblood of our existence, a complex network of interrelated systems that sustain us. Yet, in our pursuit of development, we are causing irreversible damage to it, leading to a pressing need for environmental conservation.

The Human Impact

Human activities, particularly industrialization and deforestation, are the primary culprits of environmental degradation. These actions lead to air and water pollution, soil erosion, and biodiversity loss. Climate change, a consequence of excessive greenhouse gas emissions, is perhaps the most significant threat, causing rising global temperatures, melting ice caps, and extreme weather events.

The Need for Sustainable Practices

Sustainability is no longer a choice but a necessity. We need to balance our economic growth with environmental preservation. Adopting green technologies, reducing waste, and promoting renewable energy are some of the steps towards this. Policy changes, such as enforcing stricter environmental regulations and incentivizing sustainable practices, can also play a significant role.

The Role of Education

Education is a powerful tool in this endeavor. By integrating environmental education into curricula, we can foster a generation of environmentally-conscious citizens. College students, in particular, can contribute significantly by engaging in research, advocacy, and innovation in sustainability.

In conclusion, saving the environment is a collective responsibility that requires immediate action. As we stand at this critical juncture, we must remember that our survival is intrinsically tied to the health of our environment. Every effort, no matter how small, can make a significant difference in preserving our planet for future generations.

500 Words Essay on Save Environment

Introduction.

The environment, our life-support system, is the bedrock upon which the edifice of human civilization stands. Its preservation is a prerequisite for the sustainability of our planet and the survival of future generations. The urgency to save the environment has never been greater, given the escalating environmental crises such as climate change, deforestation, and biodiversity loss.

The Imperative of Environmental Conservation

The environment is a complex web of interdependencies among living organisms and their physical surroundings. This intricate network, evolved over billions of years, ensures the planet’s equilibrium and sustains life. However, anthropogenic activities have disrupted this balance, leading to environmental degradation. The fallout of such actions is evident in the form of global warming, air and water pollution, and dwindling wildlife populations. Thus, environmental conservation is not just an ethical obligation but a survival strategy.

Climate Change: A Pressing Concern

The most pressing environmental issue today is climate change, primarily driven by greenhouse gas emissions from human activities. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) warns that a global temperature rise beyond 1.5 degrees Celsius could have catastrophic impacts. These include extreme weather events, sea-level rise, and threats to biodiversity. Saving the environment, in this context, means transitioning to a low-carbon economy, embracing renewable energy, and promoting energy efficiency.

Deforestation: An Unseen Enemy

Deforestation is another significant environmental challenge. Forests, often termed the ‘lungs of the Earth,’ sequester carbon, regulate climate, and harbor a significant portion of the planet’s biodiversity. However, they are being razed at an alarming rate for agriculture, logging, and urbanization. Conserving and expanding forest cover is a critical step in our endeavor to save the environment.

Biodiversity Loss: The Silent Crisis

The loss of biodiversity is a silent crisis unfolding before us. Species are becoming extinct at an unprecedented rate, primarily due to habitat loss, pollution, and climate change. This loss is not just about the disappearance of species but also the weakening of ecosystems and the services they provide. Preserving biodiversity is, therefore, a key component of environmental conservation.

Saving the environment is no longer a choice but a necessity for our survival. It requires a paradigm shift from viewing nature as a resource to be exploited to a life-support system to be nurtured. Sustainable development, which reconciles economic growth with environmental protection, offers a promising way forward. It is a shared responsibility that calls for collective action at the individual, community, national, and international levels. The choices we make today will determine the legacy we leave for future generations. Let it be one of stewardship and respect for the planet that sustains us.

That’s it! I hope the essay helped you.

Save Environment Essay

Essay On Save Environment - A healthy natural equilibrium in the air, water, animals, plants, and other natural resources is referred to as the environment. Pollution is the process of contaminating the environment with dangerous substances. Measures should be taken to prevent these threats from threatening human, animal, and plant life before spiralling out of control. Here are 100, 200 and 500 word essays on save environment.

Save Environment Essay

100 Words Essay On Save Environment

Our environment must be safeguarded and conserved. Natural energy conservation is critical since it maintains us. There are several strategies to protect our environment, the first of which is to reduce pollution levels. Because vehicle smoke creates a lot of pollution, using Natural Gas as a fuel for cars will cut smoke emissions. Automobiles powered by batteries are also environmentally favourable. Solar energy is used to protect our natural resources. Solar energy is non-polluting and renewable.

We must avoid dumping rubbish and manufacturing byproducts into the water. Namami Gange, for example, attempts to clean waterways and is a step toward a cleaner environment. We all must take responsibility and do our share to protect the environment.

200 Words Essay On Save Environment

The environment is a geographical area or natural world that is affected by human activity and includes mineral soil, air and water, animals, and so on. Concrete structures and roads replaced the natural landscape as Homo sapiens moved toward urbanisation and industrialisation, which led to medical, industrial, and sociological growth.

However, human reliance on these natural environments for food, water for drinking and agriculture, fuelling wood, and so on continues. Our dependence on nature is so significant that we cannot thrive without conserving its resources. The environment has an impact on an organism's survival and development.

Types Of Natural Resources

These natural resources are broadly classified as renewable or non-renewable. Renewable resources are those that can be naturally replenished. Water, forests, and crops are examples of these. Non-renewable resources, on the other hand, such as oil and minerals, cannot be renewed and, in the current environment, are rapidly depleted.

Population expansion and 'consumerism' on the part of the wealthy sectors of society are the primary causes of this rapid depletion of all natural resources. This has resulted in the extinction of fauna and trees and the disruption of the environment. As a result, it is past time to stop wasting these natural resources and use them wisely.

500 Words Essay On Save Environment

The natural environment's gifts are a source of joy for humans and other living species. These natural resources, such as air, sunlight, fresh water, fossil fuels, and so on, are so essential that life cannot exist without them. However, due to the enormous population's desire for material items, these resources are being squandered and abused to excess. This 'economic progress,' is proving to be more detrimental to human health.

Why Is There A Need To Save The Environment

The following points describe pollution caused by the misuse and waste of natural resources and the repercussions on the life of living beings on Earth. Thus, to save life on Earth, we must protect our environment:

Air Pollution | The increased use of gasoline and diesel for transportation and the combustion of fossil fuels in industries to generate energy contribute significantly to air pollution. This raises sulphur oxides, hydrocarbons, chlorofluorocarbons, carbon monoxide, and other pollutants. These dangerous gases significantly impact human health, producing chronic bronchitis, lung cancer, and other respiratory disorders. Furthermore, by depleting the ozone layer and exposing humans to ultraviolet radiation, air pollution hastens 'global warming' and weakens the immune system.

Water Pollution | Water pollution is caused by the suspension of water-soluble inorganic compounds from factories, releasing untreated human and animal wastes into freshwater, and the draining fertilisers and pesticides during river irrigation. This renders the water unsafe for drinking, causing gastrointestinal disorders and cancer.

Soil Pollution | Using chemical fertilisers and insecticides in soil kills harmful and good pests, resulting in less nutritious crops. Furthermore, long-term exposure to chemical-infected crops caused by soil contamination causes health problems. Soil erosion induced by excessive deforestation and building increases the frequency of floods, resulting in catastrophic damage to human life.

Noise Pollution | Excessive noise from factories and cars can cause physical damage to the ear, leading to temporary or permanent hearing loss. Noise pollution harms Homo sapiens' mental, emotional, and psychological health, generating stress, anxiety, and irritation, and so impairing work performance.

Methods For Environmental Protection

Looking back through history, we can see that our forefathers were more concerned with environmental preservation than we are today. This may be seen in Sunderlal Bahuguna's contributions to the Chipko Movement, which protected forest resources. Similarly, Medha Patkar effectively rescued the tribal people's habitat, which the construction of dams on the Narmada River had severely harmed. Likewise, as today's young, we may take small measures to conserve our natural environment:

Initiatives That Students Can Take

To avoid the overuse of non-renewable resources, we should promote and apply the principle of reducing, i.e. reduce, recycle, and reuse. Metal scrap, for example, can be utilised to create new metal items.

Save electricity by using energy-saving tube lights and bulbs.

Use e-books and e-paper instead of paper and wood products whenever possible.

Reduce your reliance on fossil fuels by walking, carpooling, or public transportation.

Instead of plastic bags, use jute/cloth bags.

Make use of rechargeable batteries or solar panels.

Establishing a compost bin to make manure to limit the need for fertilisers.

The government has devised several projects and enacted legislation to safeguard nature and animals. Everyone must continue to conserve the environment for future generations as we reap its advantages.

“Save Environment” is a mantra that has developed to represents several acts aimed at preserving the sanctity of our environment. Our environment suffers from several risk factors.

Some of them stem from human interference while others are natural occurrences. Whether caused by humans or not, what is clear is that we must take action. Doing nothing might lead to severe consequences for our environment. These conscious acts are generally aimed at reducing greenhouse emissions thereby creating a safer environment.

Audience: The below given essays are exclusively written for school students (Class 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 Standard). Furthermore, those students preparing for competitive exams like IAS, IPS and UPSC can also increase their knowledge by studying these essays.

Introduction:

The air we breathe, the soil we live on, the trees which give us oxygen along with other flora and fauna on the earth all constitute the environment. It would have been impossible to survive on the earth had we not had such a supportive environment. However, with the surge in the urbanisation over the last few years we have seen a steady decline in the quality of the environment around us.

“Save environment” should be the priority of each and every person today. Environment constitutes the entire surroundings comprising water, air, sunlight, plants, animals, etc., that offer viable conditions for development and growth.

Reasons to Save Environment:

It is important to save environment as life of living beings is completely dependent on it. Humans utilize the water for drinking, air for breathing and also use other natural resources for their regular everyday jobs. In fact, the food we consume like milk, eggs, and vegetables, etc., are also derived from animals and plants, which is provided to us by the environment around us.

How to Save Environment:

Environment can be saved by planting more trees, recycling, reusing, reducing pollution, creating awareness through environmental programs, etc.

Conclusion:

If we want to save the environment then, we should stop the exploitation of natural resources. Using these resources cautiously is very important to save the environment.

In the so-called modern era, the biggest issue for the human race is to save environment and make earth a cleaner and greener planet. The human race has done a lot of damages to this world. Our surroundings have suffered the curse of pollution, exploitation of resources, and many other things. Now, it is our duty to take some important measures and save environment for future generations.

Industrialization has been the biggest source of pollution. To compensate for the fuel needs, we over exhausted most of the non-renewable resources, like coals, minerals, and oils. In order to save environment, we should switch to eco-friendly energy sources, such as solar power, hydropower, wind energy, etc.

Lots of public places use the ‘save environment’ posters and stickers to create awareness among the general public. We can also watch this burning issue being discussed on news channels. At schools, students are given the topic of ‘save environment’ for an essay writing or drawing purposes. This helps them understand global warming and its dangerous consequences.

It is hard to believe but we don’t always have to do something huge to save environment. Every person, even a child can contribute to the world’s ‘save environment’ goal. We can together do so by reducing the plastic usage, saving electricity, using solar power, and planting more trees in our surroundings. Doing this will not only save environment but also improve the quality of life for both animal and plant species and save them from going extinct.

The earth is called the ‘blue planet’ and it is the only one which sustains life but given the rate of anthropogenic exploitation, how long can we get on with our selfish attitude towards the environment?

The kind of damage that has been inflicted is palpable and the need has been felt to save environment sooner rather than later. The effect of global warming, the increase of greenhouses gases, the depletion of the ozone layer and the alarming levels of pollution are all an indicator of an impending catastrophe. Until and unless we know how to save environment and take remedial measure, our future is in grave hands.

What are the remedial measures to save environment?

Too many people complain that the damage is beyond the repair point, however, it is better to put an effort rather the sit and whine. The environment is capable of healing and all we need is to give it a push in the right direction in order to save environment.

1. Sustainable Living:

It is important to understand and imbibe the concept of sustainable living. It is the art of living wherein you use the current resources keeping in mind the needs of the future generation. We have to be mindful of how what and why we are consuming especially when it comes to the natural and non-renewable resources.

2. Tree Plantation to Save Environment:

First of all, we need to come with great afforestation and reforestation schemes to save environment. It is the depletion of the green cover that has done the highest damage.

3. Pollution Mitigation:

The next thing one needs to do immediately to save environment is to cut down the pollution level. From the controversial ‘odd-even’ schemes in New Delhi to the policy of banning firecrackers or bike and carpooling, every step counts.

The Conclusion:

So if you want to save environment, you need to be prepared to put in the best of efforts. It is the cumulative effort over a collective period of time which can help the environment heal again.

Acts that Save the Environment:

We already know that we must take action to save environment. It is also important to point out the types of action we must incorporate into our daily lives to keep our environment safe.

The following are some of the steps that can lead to a better and safe environment:

1. Control electricity consumption – Most of the powers we consume are not from renewable energy sources. While the world would be better served by renewable energy sources, it would be prudent to control electricity consumption in the meantime. To do this, we must curb wastage. Little acts like turning off the bulb would make a big difference in the long run.

2. Consume less water – As the world population grows, water scarcity is becoming a profound problem. While scientific advances to solve the world water problem, more immediate action is needed for a safe environment. Thus, we must inculcate the habit of consuming less water through water conservation practices.

3. Paper reduction – The paper we use comes from trees. These trees are cut down from their natural habitat leaving our environment exposed to the risk of global warming. To save our environment, we should embrace digital tools at our disposal and use less of paper. By doing so, we would reduce the demand for paper which invariably leads to less tree cutting.

4. Reuse – Most of the materials we use in our daily lives are not actual waste. They can be recycled and subsequently used for something else. Thus, when we use things such as plastic, elastic, metal and more, we should not simply throw those things away. With the right machinery and foresight, they can be turned to materials that translate into a safe environment.

To conclude, living in a safe environment goes beyond the actions mentioned above. The extent of our involvement cannot be exhausted to one single article. However, if we stay conscious of our environment and do not relent in taking steps that are pro-environment we would make our world a better place.

Environment is the surrounding in which we live in. It is the natural habitat around us, which is essential for life to thrive in. It constitutes of air, water, soil, animals and human beings.

We humans have a blind spot concerning the degree of dependence we have on our surroundings. Mindlessly, we build and industrialize our habitat in the name of advancement only to later realize that we have been destroying our surroundings all along. We still steadily go on with our reckless way of life without the slightest awareness of what we are doing to ourselves by destroying Mother Nature. It is very important to understand and save our environment.

Reasons for Environment Degradation:

1. Urbanization:

The hash one reason for environment degradation is Urbanization. We cut down trees, lay roads and build buildings for our sophistication, without even thinking about the implications caused by our actions. In the process we completely destroy our natural surroundings and seal ourselves inside un-natural habitats called cities.

2. Consumerism:

With the birth of Industrial revolution, manufacturing processes have speeded up to a fraction of the time taken by its handmade counterparts. This has led to mass production which in turn has led to mass consumerism, and before we knew it, we became a consumer-oriented society. Thus came the practice of ‘Use and Throw’ products, which causes rapid depletion of existing resources.

3. Pollution:

Today, almost every natural resource is polluted. Industries pollute our air with the harmful gases they exhale. Automobiles have greatly contributed to air pollution by polluting it with harmful smoke they let out. Burning of plastics has resulted in the depletion of Ozone layer. Industries pollute our rivers and other water bodies by draining chemicals and oils into them. Commonly used bath soaps and detergents are highly insoluble in water and pollute drainage water. Our soils are polluted by excessive use of chemical fertilizers.

Saving our environment and thereby ourselves is in the hands of each and every one of us. Small changes made to our everyday lifestyle are all we need to do to save environment.

‘Recycling’ our material things is one big step towards saving environment. Metal scraps from old buildings can be recycled and used for producing new metal items. Plastic recycling is another big solution. Paper and cardboard items can also be recycled into new products.

Use of materials like paper and wood can be ‘Reduced’ wherever possible. Fossil fuels are depleting natural resources which cannot be renewed. Use of petroleum can be reduced by opting carpooling and cycling. Coal is another non-renewable resource used extensively in electricity production. Energy efficient light bulbs and solar cars reduce the use of such fuels.

‘Reuse’ of products is another solution to save environment. Plastic covers can be reused to minimize their production. Plastic containers can be reused and repurposed into potting for plants. Tires can be repurposed into building blocks. Every product has the capacity to be repurposed if we allow ourselves to see it with an open eye.

‘Planting’ of more trees is a step towards a greener environment. Going back to traditional agricultural practices will save our environment.

By saving our environment we are only saving ourselves. This truth needs to sink deep into our hearts, which will cause our inner man to act responsibly to save our environment.

The environment is the most valuable component of life because it enables the existence of living and non-living things. The environment is a vast source of resources like air, shelter, food and water. Living things are dependent on the environment for the continuation of life. The environment should be sacred and respected by all living things because of it is important for survival. However, the environment is not given the respect it deserves because there are several incidences on environmental pollution. The pollution of environment contaminates all the resources required to sustain the life of living things and therefore the lives are affected negatively. The effects of environmental pollution have been serious and harmful. The environment needs to be saved from pollution so that the lives of living things can be saved from full destruction. Saving the environment begins by identifying the pollutants and trying to mitigate them. The causes of these pollutions need to be identified and then prevented as the damage that is already done is being repaired in order to restore the environment.

Importance of Saving the Environment:

The environment is the main source of life for living things on the earth’s surface. The trends of environmental pollution have compromised the lives of animate objects on earth. The threat to life has forced living things to survive. Survival is not possible for all organisms and therefore deaths have been experienced, which has to be prevented.

Saving the environment will enable the nature to thrive again and reduce the survival needed. The environment will be back to its rich resourceful nature.

Ways of Saving the Environment?

Formulating strategies for unifying people to initiate the saving of the environment. Saving the environment is a collective responsibility that requires cooperation and collaboration from organizations, societies, governments and individuals so that an effort is realized. Global call should be made so that the project to save environment is initiated as a whole.

Proper handling of waste materials should be done so that pollutants do not end up in the environment. The policy of recycling and reusing the recyclable and reusable wastes is a good way to save environment. Another strategy is effective planning of the cities according to the resources that are available. Cities that are unplanned end up in environmental crisis because the population might rise beyond what the environment can support. Also, crowding causes environmental pollution because there will be clearing of natural trees in order to build houses for people to live in.

Supporting of environmental programs by participating in activities aimed at saving the environment is another way to save environment. Change should be embraced with regard to environmental conservation e.g., the ban of plastic bags and bottles should be respected. In agriculture, it is recommended that organic fertilizers have to be used in order to minimize the amount of chemical washouts that end up in water bodies.

Planting of trees should be encouraged so that air pollution effects can be reduced because trees will replenish the air quality in the atmosphere and save environment.

Challenges in Saving the Environment:

The environment has been greatly damaged and it requires a lot of effort to restore it. Limited resources for example finances poses a challenge to the project to save the environment.

Climate change affects the restoration processes like planting trees because the trees might not be favoured by the climate to grow back as expected.

Political instabilities in countries cause stagnation in the process of saving the environment because they always lag behind.

The environment needs to be saved because it is the source of life and living things are dependent on it.

Human beings cannot live all alone on the earth. They need a host of other things to support their survival. For instance, the trees provide us with oxygen and rid the air of harmful carbon-dioxide. Similarly, soil provides us with nutrients through various plants which we consume in everyday life and provides us with a surface to live on.

The entire flora and fauna or rather the entire ecosystem are what constitutes the environment for us. It is our privilege to have been provided such a beautiful environment by nature. However, have been using it judiciously? Of course, not! We have largely ignored the individual requirements of the environment for our own benefits and thus have affected the natural balance of nature. This has in turn affected as well. So, in order to sustain mutual harmony and survival for all, we need to save the environment as well.

At the very start, we need to realise that saving the environment is for our own good. We need it more than other plants and animals around us. The environment is integral to our very survival on this planet. Losing it shall lead to our extinction as well. Although necessary, steps required to save the environment can be quite challenging given the current nature of our lifestyles and the modernisation which has taken place. However, some small yet fruitful steps can surely be the guiding force towards our need to save the environment for our own benefit.

For instance, we can put an end to contamination and toxicants in air, water, soil and structures or at least try to minimise it. Moreover, conservation of biodiversity and insurance of jeopardized species should be looked into. Additionally, protection and reasonable utilization of assets, for example, water, air and crude materials should be encouraged to preserve natural resources. Also, stopping human-initiated global warming process which as on today imposes a huge danger on the existence of life in different regions of the world should be enforced.

Moving from petroleum products to a sustainable power source in power, warming and cooling, and transportation, which tends to contaminate the environment, should be promoted. Cleaner fuels should be used as to minimise air pollution. Reasonable and less contaminating waste disposal and management including reduction of waste generated, reuse, reusing, fertilizing the soil, squander to-vitality, and anaerobic processing of sewage muck should be introduced in areas grappling with waste-related pollution of water.

Steps by Government to Save Environment:

A number of initiatives have been taken by various governments in order to aware people on the need to save the environment.

Some of them have been very popular among citizens such as:

1. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan:

The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is India’s greatest save environment drive ever. The battle covers upwards of 4041 towns and goes for cleaning boulevards, streets, and foundation. It was formally announced on October 2, 2014, at Rajghat, New Delhi by the Honourable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi. The Prime Minister even assigned nine conspicuous public from the nation to help and energize the activity.

2. The Cleaning of Rivers, Especially Ganga:

Three days in the wake of confirming as the fifteenth Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, expressed his goal of cleaning the Ganga River. It served a dual purpose, as it was eco-friendly on one side and the sacred for others on the side. The Prime Minister additionally set The Ganga Action Plan under the immediate supervision of Water Resources Minister Ms Uma Bharti. The Clean Ganga Plan includes five services working in close co-task to see the results in the dram project of the government.

We must give ourselves a chance to design our urban communities as per the available resources in the region. This is a must to ensure that overuse of resources does not take place. The less we dirty our environment, the more we avert a worldwide temperature alteration. We must check for measures to stop the rising level of water in the oceans due to global warming. Expanding number of associations are being shaped to keep the planet from untimely annihilation.

More corporates have joined the race to spare the planet. We can just start by purchasing reused items for our office, home or school. The more prominent the interest for reused items, the more these organizations will be urged to add reused material to their items. Finally, we must all understand that the movement to save the environment starts from me, myself and I. don’t wait for others to take the initiative. Begin today and the others will definitely follow.

The environment is simply the surroundings where all non-living and also living things are there and form a sort of relationship between one another. The components of the environment include soil, water, air, animals and human beings. All of the gifts provided through the natural environment are wonderful for the entire living organism most especially mankind.

All natural resources are very important to life so much that there would be no life without them. The rapid increase in the population of the world has led to the rise in the need for goods and materials by the very large population. The components of the environment and other natural resources are constantly and seriously being exploited and overexploited way above and beyond natural limits. The overexploitation and misuse of these natural resources is highly hazardous and dangerous to the health of humans and animals.

In the words of Margaret Thatcher, “No generation has a freehold on this earth. All we have is a life tenancy- with a full repairing lease.” There are a lot of reasons to save the environment; why wouldn’t anyone want to save his surrounding and the place that houses him.

Some points that describe the pollution of the environment largely because of the wastage and misuse of the natural resources around us and the effects of this continual wastage and misuse on both non-living and living things are discussed below:

1. Air Pollution:

The rapidly increasing rate of the use of diesel and petrol for the burning of fossil fuel majorly in industries, in order to generate energy is a devastating contribution to the pollution of the air. This causes an increase in the amount and levels of hydrocarbons, sulphur oxides, carbon monoxide, chloro-fluoro-carbons, etc. All of these are very harmful and hazardous gases that affect the human health negatively and can cause lung cancer, chronic bronchitis and a lot of other countless respiratory diseases. The ozone layer is also depleting at an alarming rate and this makes us very vulnerable and prone to the dangerous harm of ultraviolet rays. Air pollution harms the environment in numerous ways like global warming and also weakens and lowers the immune system.

2. Water Pollution:

The release of animal and human wastes that aren’t treated in fresh water, suspension of inorganic chemicals in water is leading to industrial wastes, and the draining of pesticides and fertilisers into rivers during irrigation can lead to the pollution of water bodies.

The pollution of water makes the water totally unfit for domestic use especially drinking and cooking (cancer and gastro-intestinal diseases are some of the few effects of the consumption of such water). The pollution of water also affects aquatic life in a very bad way such as the fishes in polluted waters are not fit for human consumption, the death of aquatic life and even the forced migration of aquatic organisms and animals to waters that aren’t polluted.

3. Soil Pollution:

Pesticides and fertilisers used on plants in soil do not just kill pests and provide nutrients to the soil but they also kill organisms and microorganisms that help improve the nutrients in the soil and thus produce crops that are less nutritious. Crops that have been exposed to chemicals through soil pollution over the years lead to cancer and various forms of mutation when consumed. Soil erosion has also become rampant as a result of construction and deforestation which has led to a higher flood frequency that costs a lot of human lives and properties.

4. Noise Pollution:

Vehicles and factories produce a lot of noise that can potentially cause permanent physical damage to man’s ear including permanent or temporary hearing loss. Noise pollution has a lot of negative effects on emotional, mental and psychological health and can cause irritability, anxiety and stress and all of these can lead to performance at work dropping.

There are some methods that can be employed to save the environment. Even way back in history, people have always been concerned about the environment and saving it.

Some of the methods we can employ in saving the environment are highlighted below:

i. The concept of 3Rs (recycle, reduce and reuse) should be applied and promoted so that we can prevent the highly excessive use of resources that are non-renewable. For example, new metal products can be made from scrap metal.

ii. Bulbs and tube lights that are energy efficient should be used to save energy.

iii. The use of wood and paper products should be reduced and the use of e-paper and e-book should be encouraged.

iv. The use of fossil fuels can be reduced by using public transport, walking, cycling or car-pooling.

v. Instead of using plastic bags, jute/cloth bags can be used.

vi. Solar panels and rechargeable batteries can be used as alternative sources of energy.

vii. Compost bins can be set up to produce manure instead of using fertilisers.

Even though there are various established laws and schemes constituted by governments in order to save the environment, it is everyone’s duty and responsibility to protect and preserve the environment for present and future generations.

There is a popular saying by Lester Brown that reads “We have not inherited this earth from our forefathers-we have borrowed it from our children.” So, every individual on earth must contribute his quota towards the conservation of the environment, not just waiting on the government to do everything.

Unknowingly or knowingly, we contribute to pollution every day. Therefore, it is important that we do both our individual best and collective best to get involved in activities that help save the planet like recycling of products, engaging in rainwater harvesting, avoidance of wastage of natural resources like fresh water and also resources like electricity. It doesn’t matter how small or large our contributions is? what really matters is that we are doing our best to save the environment. We can only save our environment through proper management and sustainable development.

essay on environment protection

Essay on Environment Protection (1000+ words)

The environment is a major issue that needs focused attention. We all know that we cannot keep living like we do and expect positive change in the environment. But how do we go about changing our behavior when it affects so many aspects of our lives?

We need to start by making small changes in our lives, and finding ways to incorporate environmental sustainability into every aspect of our lives. In this essay, you will learn some ways to take your first step in making sustainable choices for yourself and your family.

1 – Reduce your consumption

What are you doing with all of those products that you purchased over the years? Of course, you wanted those products but did you actually need them? Did you really need to purchase that entire packet of chips?

Did you really need to buy three of those drinks to start off the morning? Don’t buy so much, which is something that you can do with just a few simple, effective tips. The fewer products you use, the less will be waste production.

The environment is one of the most important things to many people. However, as the human population grows and we consume more natural resources like water and energy, we end up harming the environment in various ways. The best way to fight against pollution and other environmental concerns is by recycling, which you can do at home or even at work. Recycling not only helps to reduce landfill waste but also saves natural resources like oil and gas.

2 – Avoid plastics

The way we produce and use plastic waste is really bad. There are many disposable and single-use products made from plastic but people do not really know much about these items. Avoid using plastic bags, and try to use cloth shopping bags instead.

Plastic has a wide variety of uses but due to the amount that is thrown away, it ends up in landfills or getting dumped in our oceans.

3 – Leave less of a carbon footprint

Carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are some of the main contributors to global warming. This is because they absorb the sun’s heat and trap it. By reducing your carbon footprint, you can reduce your environmental impact and have a positive impact on the environment.

There are several simple ways to reduce your carbon footprint, including carpooling to work, using public transport when possible, and keeping your home unplugged.

4 – Invest in eco-friendly products

When shopping for a product, it’s important to buy from a company that saves natural resources and has a positive environmental impact.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the recycling rates of eco-friendly products are lower than those of their non-ecofriendly counterparts. However, many companies that produce eco-friendly products make efforts to make these products as green as possible.

For instance, G.SKILL creates gaming peripherals with only recycled metals like recycled aluminum, recycled steel, and 100% recycled plastics, which reduces the use of additional raw materials that often end up in landfills. The Corsair iCue uses nine recyclable materials and is built from 97% recyclable plastic.

5 – Protect animals and plants

This one should come first as it is the most crucial step in all of this. The environment doesn’t need to be harmed for humans to use it and live a more comfortable life. It is, in fact, crucial to protect all living creatures from harm.

Some people choose to reduce their meat consumption but this can cause major problems for our ecosystem, as well as our health. You can take steps to plant gardens and find ways to make the most of your local community to maintain the quality of the environment.

For example, consider donating your spare clothes to local people who are in need. Take out fewer disposable items like cups, plates, and utensils when you dine in restaurants, and keep up the good work!

6 – Plant a tree or shrubs

A living plant is a beautiful addition to your home. Most trees have small roots which go deep into the ground and provide a natural habitat for animals and birds. Trees also block harmful air and insects from entering your home.

It is recommended that you plant a minimum of 10 trees and shrubs per year. Recycle everything that you can If you have any paper, aluminum cans, plastic bottles, glass bottles, and other recyclable items that you can collect from the waste bins near your home, do so.

This way, you reduce landfill waste and save natural resources like oil and gas. Wear clothing made of organic fabrics Studies show that wearing organic cotton clothing minimizes exposure to dyes and chemicals that cause allergies, rashes, and skin infections.

7 – Eat sustainable food only

If you eat food from a sustainable farm, you can reduce the amount of pollution and fossil fuel usage. You can also try to minimize or avoid pesticides and other chemicals.

The best way to eat sustainable food is to become part of a local organic food movement. Buy and compost what you throw away. Make sure that you regularly compost your food waste so that it doesn’t get sent to a landfill.

This can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by a ton!

8 – Use reusable or recyclable materials

At work, all kinds of products are made of plastic, and there are many ways that plastic is recycled. However, most workplaces use plastic disposable products, and while it is a small thing, these products are usually not environmentally friendly.

Plastics can easily be recycled and you can have a reusable cup or reusable bag with your work. Having a reusable mug or reusable bottle makes your coffee more convenient. Plus, having a reusable water bottle instead of buying plastic water bottles saves you money. Useless or no electricity Electricity usage is one of the main reasons for deforestation. This is a huge problem, and you can help to curb it by using less electricity. For example, powering your washing machine instead of your dryer saves a huge amount of energy.

9 – Conclusion

The environment is constantly changing. However, sometimes this change becomes too much to handle. This can be seen in the form of natural disasters like hurricanes and earthquakes. The environment also changes now more slowly, as climate change becomes an increasingly serious issue to many countries.

If you would like to help the environment and conserve natural resources, don’t fret as there are many ways to do this. Besides recycling, there are many other green habits you can follow to take care of the environment. Remember that our actions and habits play a major role in ensuring a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future.

As individuals, we can make small changes in our lives to help the planet. For example, you might stop using plastic bags or using your car less often. If you want to go bigger than that, you could look into renewable energy sources like solar panels. The problem of climate change is serious, but there are ways we can act on it as individuals.

Essay on Environment 1000+ Words

The environment is an intricate web of ecosystems, natural resources, and living organisms that sustains life on our planet. It encompasses the air we breathe, the water we drink, the land we cultivate, and the diverse flora and fauna that inhabit our planet.

In today’s world, the environment faces unprecedented challenges, including pollution, climate change, habitat destruction, and the depletion of vital resources. This essay argues that preserving and safeguarding the environment is not just a moral imperative; it is an urgent necessity for the well-being of current and future generations.

The Precarious State of Our Environment

The state of our environment is a cause for concern. The effects of human activities on the environment are alarming. Deforestation, driven by agricultural expansion and logging, results in the loss of vital carbon sinks, disrupts ecosystems, and exacerbates climate change. Pollution, from industrial emissions to plastic waste in our oceans, threatens the health of our ecosystems and the creatures that inhabit them.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), air pollution alone causes an estimated seven million premature deaths worldwide every year. Furthermore, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) warns that global temperatures are rising at an unprecedented rate, leading to more frequent and severe weather events, melting ice caps, and rising sea levels

The Impact on Biodiversity

One of the gravest consequences of environmental degradation is the loss of biodiversity. Human activities such as habitat destruction, overfishing, and pollution have led to a sharp decline in the number of species on Earth. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) reports that wildlife populations have declined by an average of 68% since 1970. This loss of biodiversity has far-reaching implications for ecosystems and human societies.

Biodiversity plays a crucial role in providing ecosystem services such as pollination, pest control, and the regulation of climate and water resources. Additionally, it offers a reservoir of genetic diversity essential for developing new medicines and crop varieties.

The Human Toll of Environmental Degradation

Environmental degradation is not an abstract problem; it has a direct impact on human health and well-being. Polluted air and water, contaminated soil, and exposure to hazardous chemicals can lead to a range of health issues, from respiratory diseases to cancer.

The poorest and most vulnerable communities often bear the brunt of these health risks. A study published in The Lancet found that environmental factors, such as air and water pollution, contribute to more than 25% of global deaths, with millions of lives lost each year due to diseases caused or exacerbated by environmental factors. Furthermore, water scarcity, driven by over-extraction and pollution, affects billions of people, leading to increased competition for resources and potential conflicts.

The Economic Imperative of Environmental Conservation

Protecting the environment is not just a moral obligation; it is also an economic imperative. Natural resources such as clean air, clean water, fertile soil, and biodiversity are the foundation of economies worldwide. Without them, agriculture, fisheries, tourism, and many other industries would collapse.

The World Bank estimates that environmental degradation costs the global economy trillions of dollars annually in lost productivity, healthcare costs, and damage to infrastructure. Conversely, investing in environmental conservation and sustainable practices can yield significant economic benefits. Renewable energy, for example, is not only environmentally friendly but also a source of job creation and economic growth.

The Urgency of Climate Change Mitigation

Climate change is one of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time. The overwhelming consensus among climate scientists is that human activities, particularly the burning of fossil fuels, are driving the increase in greenhouse gas emissions, leading to global warming. The consequences of unchecked climate change are severe, including extreme weather events, food and water scarcity, and the displacement of millions of people.

To address climate change, countries around the world must take ambitious actions to reduce emissions, transition to renewable energy sources, and adapt to the changing climate. The Paris Agreement, adopted in 2015, represents a global commitment to limit global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. However, achieving these goals requires sustained international cooperation and individual efforts at every level of society.

Conclusion of Essay on Environment

The environment, being a precious and finite resource, sustains life on Earth, and its well-being is closely tied to our own. Moreover, environmental degradation, encompassing pollution, biodiversity loss, and climate change, presents severe threats to our planet and the welfare of future generations. Therefore, the imperative to preserve and protect the environment extends beyond morality; it is an immediate necessity for the well-being of both present and forthcoming generations. It is an economic imperative, a public health imperative, and a moral imperative.

As stewards of this planet, we must commit to sustainable practices, reduce our environmental footprint, and advocate for policies and actions that prioritize the health and vitality of our environment. Only through concerted global efforts can we hope to secure a sustainable and prosperous future for ourselves and generations to come.

Title: Save Water – Preserving Our Precious Resource for a Sustainable Future

Introduction :

Water is a vital resource that is essential for life on Earth. However, due to population growth, climate change, and unsustainable practices, water scarcity has become a pressing global issue. It is crucial for us to take immediate action to conserve water and ensure its sustainable use. This essay explores the importance of saving water, the causes of water scarcity, and practical steps we can take to conserve this precious resource.

Causes of Water Scarcity

Water scarcity is primarily caused by the increasing demands of a growing population, inadequate water infrastructure, pollution, and climate change. Population growth puts immense pressure on water resources, leading to overconsumption and depletion. Additionally, outdated water management systems and infrastructure result in inefficiencies and wastage. Pollution from industries, agriculture, and human activities contaminates water sources, making them unfit for use. Climate change exacerbates water scarcity by altering precipitation patterns, leading to droughts and reduced water availability.

Importance of Saving Water

Saving water is vital for several reasons. Firstly, water is a finite resource, and excessive use can deplete aquifers and freshwater sources. Secondly, water scarcity affects agriculture, leading to crop failures and food insecurity. It also impacts industries and hampers economic development. Thirdly, water scarcity affects ecosystems, leading to the loss of biodiversity and damage to aquatic habitats. Finally, water scarcity disproportionately affects marginalized communities, exacerbating social inequalities.

Practical Steps for Water Conservation

Conserving water is everyone’s responsibility, and simple lifestyle changes can make a significant difference. Firstly, fixing leaky faucets, pipes, and toilets can prevent wastage. Secondly, using water-efficient appliances and fixtures can significantly reduce consumption. Installing low-flow showerheads, dual-flush toilets, and aerators can conserve water without compromising functionality.

Changing our daily habits can also contribute to water conservation. Taking shorter showers, turning off the tap while brushing teeth or washing dishes, and collecting rainwater for outdoor use are effective measures. Watering plants during cooler hours and using drip irrigation systems can reduce evaporation and minimize water loss.

Moreover, reusing water can play a significant role in conservation efforts. Using recycled water for activities like watering plants, cleaning, and flushing toilets can help reduce consumption. Greywater systems can be installed to capture and treat water from sinks, showers, and laundry for non-potable use.

Education and Awareness

Education and awareness are crucial for fostering a culture of water conservation. Schools, communities, and governments should prioritize water conservation education. Teaching children about the value of water, the importance of water-saving practices, and the impact of water scarcity can instill lifelong habits.

Awareness campaigns and public outreach programs can educate individuals about water conservation strategies. Promoting water-saving techniques, sharing success stories, and providing resources can empower individuals to take action.

Government Initiatives and Policies

Governments play a vital role in implementing policies and regulations that promote water conservation. Water pricing mechanisms, water-use restrictions, and incentives for adopting water-efficient technologies can encourage conservation practices.

Investing in water infrastructure and management systems is crucial for reducing wastage and increasing efficiency. Upgrading irrigation systems, promoting rainwater harvesting, and implementing wastewater treatment plants are essential steps towards sustainable water management.

International Cooperation

Addressing water scarcity requires international cooperation and collaboration. Sharing best practices, technologies, and research on water management can help countries tackle water scarcity collectively. Cooperation on transboundary water resources, such as rivers and lakes, can ensure equitable access and sustainable use.

Conclusion :

Water is a finite and precious resource that must be conserved and managed wisely. By implementing water-saving practices, raising awareness, and advocating for sustainable water policies, we can contribute to water conservation efforts. Saving water is not just a responsibility; it is an urgent necessity for a sustainable future. Let us make a collective commitment to conserve water and ensure its availability for future generations. Remember, every drop counts, and together we can make a significant impact in preserving this invaluable resource.

Essay on Save Water in English (1000 Words)

Water is just one of the numerous treasures that Mother Nature has given us.. It’s difficult to picture a world without water. Water is essential for the existence of all plants and animals on Earth.

Because of its high water content, Earth is regarded as a blue planet. Water covers over 70% of the Earth’s surface, yet humans can only utilize around 3.5 percent of it. Freshwater is the 3.5 percent useable water that we acquire through rivers, ponds, groundwater, reservoirs, and other sources.

The regrettable reality is that freshwater supplies are rapidly depleting. This is a major cause for concern, since it may result in a water shortage in future generations. Experts predict that by 2050, the additional population would result in a 19 percent rise in agricultural water usage.

Water usage is growing day by day as the world’s population grows. Simultaneously, we must save water in order to minimize water shortages as a result of unrestricted water consumption. Saving water entails not just replenishing our reservoirs, but also protecting them from contamination.

Water conservation saves lives.

Students in grades 7, 8, 9, and 10 may benefit from a lengthy essay on Save Water Save Life. Assignments and tests require them to compose these essays.

On our planet, water is a must for living. Water is required for life to exist. Water is an important element, much like the air. Water is required for the survival of all living forms on the Earth’s surface, including animals, plants, insects, and humans. For usage and survival, fresh and potable water is required. Water may be used for a variety of reasons besides drinking.

Washing, cooking, and cleaning are all done using non-potable water. Water is also utilized extensively in agriculture, including cultivation, harvesting, and irrigation.

Water supplies have been depleted dramatically in recent years. It is critical to saving water as much as possible in the face of global warming and an increasing global population. Everyone should be aware of the need of conserving and saving water.

To avert water scarcity, everyone should play a fair role and avoid abusing or overusing water resources whenever and wherever feasible. The most immediate and serious hazard to the Earth is a lack of freshwater.

How to Save Water

Water is life, and if we want the human species to thrive, we must make water conservation a habit in our daily lives.

The following are a few tips to help you conserve water and make better use of it:

  • Turn off the tap entirely while not in use, such as shaving or brushing your teeth.
  • Install a low-flush toilet or another toilet that uses less water.
  • Instead of a shower, take a bath in a mug and bucket.
  • Instead of flood irrigation in agriculture, drip irrigation should be employed.
  • By watering in the evening, you may avoid overwatering your garden.
  • Turn off running faucets in public areas and notify authorities immediately if a leak occurs.
  • In your house and community, install a rainwater collection system.
  • Laundry or gardening may be done using the wastewater generated by RO filters.
  • Install a float valve in the tanks mentioned above to avoid overflow.

Save Water Initiative

‘Save Water’ is a campaign that raises public awareness about the need for water conservation and encourages people to save it for the future. The Save Water campaign raises awareness that clean and fresh water resources are finite and that if they are abused, they may not be able to meet the population’s high needs in the near future, putting human existence in jeopardy.

Even while water covers 71% of the globe, it is inappropriate for direct consumption, thus whatever freshwater we do have should be used responsibly without wasting a drop. Every global citizen has a duty to preserve water and protect it for future generations since the world’s population grows, but the sources of clean water remain the same.

If we want to ensure that fresh water is available to sustain life in the future, we must begin conserving water today and incorporate water-saving habits into our daily routine. Only then will we be able to conserve water and maintain the supply of water in areas where fresh and clean water is scarce.

Conclusion

Water is the basis of life; for example, something will grow if you leave a pan of water alone for a few days. This explains how water is essential for all forms of life on Earth.

Water is essential for the life of every living creature, including people, animals, plants, and trees. When they are deprived of water, the species struggles to live even for a short period of time.

As the most intellectual species on the planet, it is our primary obligation to conserve water so that other kinds of life may thrive and the environment can maintain a healthy balance.

FAQ’s

1-Why do we refer to water as life?

Water makes up about 60% of our body weight, and we can only last a few days without it. Water is also an essential component of many ecosystems that support us and a diverse range of other creatures.

2-What are the different sorts of water?

Pure water is unpleasant, odorless, and colorless. The three states of water are rigid (ice), liquids (water), and gas (water) (vapor).

1-Ice is solid water that has been frozen. Water molecules travel wider apart when it freezes, making ice less dense than water. This means that ice will float in water since it will be lighter than the same volume of water.

2-Liquid water is a type of water that is both moist and fluid. This is the type of water we are most familiar with. We use liquid water for a variety of purposes, including cleaning and drinking.

3-Water vapor is always present in the air around us as a gas. It’s hidden from view. When you boil water, it transforms from a liquid to a gas, often known as water vapor.

3-What happens if we try to conserve water?

Rainwater harvesting practices can also save you money while also diverting less water from our rivers, lagoons, and coastlines, which is beneficial for the ecosystem.  It can also help save money on drinking water treatment, as well as the energy required to clean, pump, and heat water.

Essay on Environmental Pollution (1000 Words)

Mixing of contaminants into the natural environment, which causes an adverse change in the environment, is known as environmental pollution.

Environmental pollution can take the shape of chemical substances or energy, like noise, heat, or light. Pollutants, the components of Pollution, are often either foreign substances/energies or present contaminants. Pollution is usually classed as the beginning or non-point source pollution.

In 2015, Pollution killed 9 million people within the world. Significant sorts of environmental Pollution include Pollution, light pollution, littering, sound Pollution, plastic Pollution, soil contamination, radioactive contamination, Pollution, visual Pollution, Pollution.

History of Pollution

Air pollution has always accompanied civilizations and has been a significant lead in environmental Pollution.

Pollution started from prehistoric times when man created the primary fires, “soot” was found on ceilings of ancient caves provides ample evidence of the high levels of air pollution was created because of inadequate ventilation of open fires.”

The creation of metal forging has played a crucial turning point in creating severe air pollution levels outside the houses. Core samples of glaciers in Greenland show increases in Pollution related to Greek, Roman, and Chinese metal production.

What Are Sources of Pollution?

The burning of coal and wood, the presence of many horses in concentrated areas, made the cities the first sources of Pollution. The economic Revolution brought an infusion of untreated chemicals and wastes into local streams that served because of the water system.

The burning of sea-coal was banned in London by King Edward I of England after its smoke became a problem; the fuel was so prevalent in England that this earliest of names for it had been gained because it might be carted far away from some shores by the wheelbarrow.

It was the economic Revolution that gave birth to environmental Pollution as we all know it today. London also recorded one among the sooner extreme cases of water quality problems with the excellent Stink on the Thames of 1858, which led to the construction of the London sewerage system soon afterward.

Pollution issues escalated as an increase far exceeded the viability of neighborhoods to handle their waste problem. The reformers claimed the demand for sewer systems and clean water.

The large quantities of coal were consumed by the emerging factories giving rise to unprecedented Pollution. This led to an enormous volume of chemical discharge, which added to the growing load of untreated wastes — the first two American cities Chicago and Cincinnati to enact laws ensuring cleaner air in 1881.

In the early twentieth century, environmental Pollution became a severe issue as progressive reformers took effect with Pollution caused by coal burning. Pollution caused by inadequate sanitation and street pollution caused by the three million horses who worked in American cities in the 1900s generated vast quantities of urine and manure.

Nuclear weapons continued to be tested within the conflict, especially within the earlier stages of their development. Though extreme care has been taken but still disastrous, incidents like those at Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, and Fukushima pose a lingering specter of public mistrust.

Worldwide publicity has been intense in those disasters. Widespread support for ban treaties has ended most nuclear testing within the atmosphere.

Pollution introduced by light in the dark is becoming a global problem, more severe in urban centers, but also contaminating vast territories, distant from towns. Increasing evidence of global and local Pollution and public information available over time has given rise to public awareness, which has to lead to the environmental movement to limit the human impact on the environment.

What Are the Major Types of Environmental Pollution?

1. air pollution.

Read more about – Air pollution

Air pollution may be a mixture of solid particles and gases within the air. Car emissions, chemicals from factories, dust, pollen, and mold spores could also be suspended as particles.

Ozone, a gas, maybe a significant part of Pollution in cities. When ozone forms Pollution, it is also called smog. Some air pollutants are poisonous.

2. Plastic Pollution

Read more about – Plastic Pollution

Plastic Pollution is the accumulation of plastic objects and particles (e.g., plastic bottles, bags, and microbeads) within the Earth’s environment that adversely affects wildlife, wildlife habitat, and humans. Plastics that act as pollutants are categorized into micro – or macro debris supported size.

3. Soil Pollution

Read more about – Soil Pollution

Soil is the thin layer of inorganic and organic materials that covers the rocky surface of the Earth, which gets polluted because of the persistent toxic compounds, salts, radioactive material, etc. which has an adverse effect on the health of the soil.

4. Water Pollution

Read more about – Water Pollution

The contamination of water bodies because of human activities is known as water pollution. Water bodies include, for instance, lakes, rivers, oceans, aquifers, and groundwater; the release of waste and contaminants into surface runoff flowing to surface waters groundwater pollution from waste disposal and leaching into the bottom, including from pit latrines and septic tanks; eutrophication and littering.

It includes urban runoff and agricultural runoff, which can contain chemical fertilizers and pesticides; also including human feces from open defecation–still a severe problem in many developing countries.

5. Radioactive Pollution

Read more about – Radioactive Pollution

The dangerous Pollution is defined as the release of poisonous substance because of the results of freedom of radioactive materials into the environment during nuclear explosions and testing of atomic weapons, the weapon of mass destruction production and decommissioning mining of radioactive ores, handling and disposal of radioactive material, and accidents at nuclear power plants.

Effects of Environmental Pollution

There are adverse effects of Pollution on all living organisms on Earth. Ozone pollution can cause respiratory illness, disorder, throat inflammation, pain, and congestion. Pollution causes approximately 14,000 deaths per day, mostly thanks to contamination of beverage by untreated sewage in developing countries.

About 500 million Indians haven’t any access to a correct toilet, over ten million people in India fell ill with waterborne illnesses in 2013, and 1,535 people died, most of them children.

Nearly 500 million Chinese lack access to a safe beverage. A 2010 analysis estimated that 1.2 million people died prematurely annually in China because of Pollution. The top smog levels China has been facing for an extended time can damage to civilians’ bodies and generate uncommon diseases.

The WHO estimated in 2007 that Pollution causes half 1,000,000 deaths per annum in India. Studies have determined uncommon diseases that the number of individuals killed annually within us might be over 50,000.

Save Environment Essay

Environment commonly refers to the surroundings in which all living and non-living things reside and establish a sense of attraction with one another. These include air, water, soil, human beings, animals, etc. However being a part of the city, town or village, we observe that the environment around us was originally a natural landscape, for instance, a desert, a forest, or even a river that has been shovelled by humans for buildings, roads and factories.

But even the people belonging to the metropolitan cities get their food, fish, fuel wood and fodder supplied from rural areas, which are eventually extracted from the natural landscapes. Hence, our dependence on natural resources has made it essential for us to take considerable measures to prevent the destruction and depletion of our natural environment.

Long and Short Essay on Save Environment in English

Here are the essays of varied lengths on the aforementioned topic to help you with your exams and assignments. You can select any Save Environment essay in accordance with your requirement:

Short Essay on Save Environment – Essay 1 (200 words)

A geographical area or the natural world that includes mineral soil, air and water, animals, etc. which is affected by human activity is termed as environment. With the movement of the Homo sapiens towards urbanisation and industrialization which led to the development in medical, industrial and societal field, the natural landscape got replaced by concrete buildings and roads. However, our dependency on these natural landscapes for food, water for drinking and agriculture, fuel wood, etc. still persists. This dependency of ours on nature is to such a large extent that we cannot survive without protecting its resources.

These natural resources can broadly be categorized into renewable and non-renewable ones. Renewable resources are the ones that can be regenerated naturally. These include water, forest, crops etc. On the contrary, the non-renewable resources such as oils and minerals cannot be replenished and in the present scenario are being consumed at a very fast pace.

The main factors leading to this rapid depletion of all forms of natural resources are population growth and ‘consumerism’ on the part of the privileged sections of the society. This has led to loss of not only wildlife and trees, but has also disrupted the eco-system. Thus, it is high time that we should stop misusing these natural resources and instead use them judiciously.

Essay on Importance of Saving Our Environment – Essay 2 (300 words)

Introduction

The sum total of all the surroundings of a living being including air, water, sunlight, etc. and also the living organism like animals, plants, humans, etc that provide sustainable conditions for growth and development, constitutes the environment.

Importance of Saving Our Environment

Today in the industrial and urban sectors, this environment comprises of well paved roads, multi-story concrete buildings and skyscrapers. Their main motive is to accommodate the increasing population and provide various luxuries to the affluent sections of the society.

However, despite this movement the reliability of humans on the resources derived from nature still persists. We use air for breathing, water for drinking and other daily chores. Even the food we eat is derived from plants and animals including vegetables, milk, eggs, etc. In consideration of these requirements, protection of these resources has become very important which can be categorised as:

  • Renewable Resources: As the word suggests, renewable resources can be renewed naturally through rainfall and re-growth. However, these will be depleted if their consumption at this fast pace continues, even before nature can replace them. For example, rubber, timber, fresh water.
  • Non-Renewable Resources: These resources have been formed over a period of millions of years under the soil and hence cannot be replenished. Once used, the non-renewable resources including fossil fuels such as coal and oil can’t be renewed.

The need of the hour is to prevent the misuse of resources and instead use them judiciously as Mother Earth cannot sustain with this rapid utilization of resources. This is only possible through ‘sustainable development’. Moreover, the solid and liquid by-products discarded as garbage by manufacturing units should be equitably managed in order to prevent pollution that leads to various diseases like cancer and gastro-intestinal diseases. This is possible only if steps are taken on the individual basis, rather than depending entirely on the government.

Essay on How to Protect and Save Environment – Essay 3 (400 words)

Since the beginning of time, environment has helped us in establishing a relationship with the flora and fauna, and has ultimately determined our formation and survival. It has given us various gifts, for e.g. water, sunlight, air, creatures and fossil fuels which have made our planet worth living.

How to Protect and Save Environment

Since these resources are available in abundance, they are being overly used and consumed at a very high pace due to explosion in population and also to meet the luxurious demands of the privileged sections of the society. Thus, it has become important to conserve these natural resources in all the ways. Here are a few ways in which the excessive use of natural resources can be preserved:

  • Mineral and Energy Resources: The energy extracted from various minerals including coal, oil, and various fossil fuels is used massively in power generation plants and also in vehicles, which contribute majorly towards air pollution. In order to prevent the air borne diseases caused by their extraction and consumption, the use of the renewable resources like sunlight, wind and tidal energy must be promoted.
  • Forest Resources: Forests play a very vital role in preventing soil erosion and also reduces the effects of drought as they prevent the running off of the rain water from the ground. Moreover, they not only keep the climatic conditions under control but also maintain carbon dioxide levels for the living organism. Thus, it is vital to preserve and expand forests which can be done by promoting the sale of non-timber products, promoting the states rotational grazing schemes and most importantly planting more trees.
  • Water Resources: The aquatic ecosystems are used by people for their daily chores, such as drinking, cooking, washing etc. and the water cycle maintains it through evaporation and precipitation. However, fresh water is being overly consumed by man and wasted because of deforestation (floods). It is also getting polluted at a massive rate. In order to prevent water crisis in the near future, a number of measures need to be taken, which include building of small reservoirs instead of mega projects, promoting drip irrigation, preventing leakages, treating and recycling municipal waste.
  • Food Resources: The various technologies used during the green revolution that helped in reducing starvation by booming the production of crops, in actuality degraded the quality of soil. Thus, sustainable methods of food production need to be used that include using alternates to inorganic fertilizers and pesticides, promoting consumption of crops that grow on poor soil, etc.

Thus, it is only through sustainable development and proper management that we as individuals can take steps to protect and save environment.

Essay on Save Environment Save Earth – Essay 4 (500 words)

“No generation has a freehold on this earth. All we have is a life tenancy– with a full repairing lease.” These words have been very aptly quoted by Margaret Thatcher and define our temporary relationship with the natural environment. Despite various gifts that we have been provided by nature to make our life seemingly easy and this planet worth living, such as air, sunlight, water, animals and minerals, we have for our own selfish gains overtly exploited them.

Need to Save Environment to Save Earth

To meet our present day needs due to increasing population levels, we have been persistently without any check consuming the natural resources. We are not concerned for our future generations. Thus, the need of the hour is to conserve both the renewable and non-renewable resources, provided by nature if we really need to save mother Earth.

Effects of Pollution on Environment

During the last few decades, water, air and land have been contaminated for achieving short term gains at the cost of long term ecological losses to the environment. These undesirable changes have had disastrous effects not only on plants and wildlife, but also on humans which have been discussed as follows:

  • Air Pollution: The development of transportation system and large-scale use of petrol and diesel has accelerated the production of both undesirable solid and gaseous particles in the air, in quantities that are harmful for the environment. With the increase in the levels of carbon monoxide, chloro-fluoro-carbons, sulphur oxides, hydrocarbons and even lead, the ozone layer responsible for protection from ultra violet rays has started depleting. This has also resulted in increase in temperatures, commonly known as ‘global warming’.
  • Water Pollution: Untreated human and animal wastes, suspension of water soluble inorganic chemicals from industries such as mercury and lead and draining of organic chemicals including detergent and oils in the fresh water ponds and rivers has made their water unfit for any use. This has adversely affected aquatic life, reduced crop yields and also made the water unsafe for consumption by both humans and animals.
  • Soil Pollution: Due to the excessive spraying of fertilizers and pesticides like DDT, use of irrigation water that is high in salts for the purpose of increasing crop yields, in the long run renders land useless. This is known as soil pollution which is also accelerated by soil erosion caused due to human activities such as construction, deforestation, etc.
  • Noise Pollution: Noise emanating from vehicles, factories and specially the bursting of crackers during Diwali in India contributes to noise pollution. This adversely affects the animals as they are not able to adapt to such noises and in turn undergo hearing loss.

Every individual must solely contribute towards conserving the environment and not majorly depend on the government itself. Knowingly or unknowingly we contribute towards pollution on daily basis. Hence, as the consumers of the gifts of nature it is our responsibility to promote rain water harvesting, take part both individually and collectively in the process of recycling products, avoiding wastage of resources such as electricity and fresh water, etc. It is by taking little steps that we can effectively improve the health of our ailing planet.

Essay on Save Environment Save Life – Essay 5 (600 words)

The gifts provided by the natural environment are bliss for mankind as well as for the other living organisms. These natural resources including air, sunlight, fresh water, fossil fuels etc. are so vital that life can never be possible without them. However, with the increase in the greed for material goods by the large population, these resources are being used and misused beyond their limits. This, rather than ‘economic development’ is proving to be more hazardous for human health, which has been discussed below.

Reasons to Save Environment to Save Life on Earth

Following are the points describing pollution due to Misuse and Wastage of natural resources and their effects on life of living beings on the earth, thus we must save our environment to save life on earth:

  • Air Pollution: The increase in the use of petrol and diesel for transportation and the burning of fossil fuels in industries to produce energy make a terrible contribution in polluting the air. This results in an increase in the levels of sulphur oxides, hydrocarbons, chloro-fluoro-carbons, carbon monoxide, etc. These hazardous gases negatively affect human health causing chronic bronchitis, lung cancer and various other respiratory diseases. Also, causing the depletion of ozone layer, making mankind vulnerable to ultraviolet rays, air pollution not only accelerates ‘global warming’ but also weakens the immune system.
  • Water Pollution: The suspension of water soluble inorganic chemicals from industries, release of untreated human and animal wastes in fresh water and draining of fertilizers and pesticides during irrigation in rivers lead to water pollution. This not only makes the water unfit for drinking, such that its consumption causes gastro-intestinal diseases but also causes cancer. Moreover, by affecting the aquatic life negatively, water pollution makes fish unfit for consumption.
  • Soil Pollution: Use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in soil not only kills’ bad but also good pests, thereby providing us with less nutritious crops. Also, the exposure to chemical infected crops due to soil pollution over several years causes mutations, produces cancer, etc. Soil erosion caused due to excessive deforestation and construction aids in the frequency of floods, which results in the destruction of human life on a massive scale.
  • Noise Pollution: Excessive noise emanating from factories and vehicles can cause physical damage to the ear, resulting in temporary or permanent hearing loss. Amongst Homo sapiens, noise pollution also has negative effect on mental, emotional and psychological health, causing stress, anxiety and irritability, thereby adversely affecting the performance at work.

Methods for Saving the Environment

Pondering over the pages of history, it can be observed that our ancestors were more concerned about saving our environment, than we are today. This can be witnessed in the contributions of Sunderlal Bahuguna, who through Chipko Movement guarded the forest resources. Similarly, Medha Patkar effectively saved the environment of the tribal people, which was negatively impacted due to the construction of dams on the Narmada River. We as the youth of today can take small steps, to similarly save our natural environment:

  • We should promote and also apply to the concept of 3R’s, i.e. reduce, recycle and reuse in order to prevent the excessive use of non-renewable resources. For instance, metal scrap can be used to make new metal products.
  • Use energy efficient tube lights and bulbs that save energy.
  • Reduce the use of paper and wood products wherever possible and go for e-book and e-paper.
  • Reduce the use of fossil fuels by opting to walk or using car pool or public transport.
  • Use jute/cloth bags instead of plastic bags.
  • Use rechargeable batteries/ solar panels.
  • Setting up compost bin to produce manure to reduce the use of fertilizers.

Though government has formulated various schemes and established laws in favour of saving both nature and wildlife. It is still the duty of each person individually to protect the environment for our future generations, as we are the people consuming its benefits. This can be very appropriately connoted in the words of Lester Brown, “We have not inherited this earth from our forefathers: we have borrowed it from our children”.

However, they are facing severe threats due to deforestation and habitat destruction. It is imperative that we understand the importance of forest conservation and take proactive measures to protect these vital natural resources.

Importance of Forest Conservation

Forests are of immense significance for several reasons:

  • Biodiversity Hotspots : Forests are home to countless plant and animal species. They support rich biodiversity, providing habitat and sustenance for numerous organisms, many of which are endemic and endangered.
  • Climate Regulation: Forests absorb and store vast amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2), helping mitigate climate change. They act as carbon sinks, reducing the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
  • Water Cycle: Forests play a pivotal role in regulating the water cycle. They help maintain soil moisture, prevent erosion, and regulate rainfall patterns. This, in turn, supports agriculture and ensures a steady supply of fresh water.
  • Economic Benefits: Forests are a source of livelihood for millions of people worldwide. They provide timber, non-timber forest products, and opportunities for ecotourism, contributing significantly to local and national economies.
  • Medicinal Resources: Many medicines and traditional remedies are derived from plants found in forests. Forests are a treasure trove of medicinal and healing plants.

Factors Responsible for Deforestation

Despite the myriad benefits, forests are under constant threat due to various factors:

  • Logging and Timber Industry: The demand for timber and wood products fuels large-scale logging, leading to deforestation. Unsustainable logging practices are particularly damaging.

Short Essay on Role of Forests in Climate Change in 150 Words

The essay on the role of forests in climate change discusses how forests act as natural tools to combat global warming. The loss of forests through deforestation and degradation results in the release of stored carbon and exacerbates climate change. Preserving and restoring forests is crucial. The importance of preserving and restoring forests to mitigate climate change and maintain a stable and sustainable environment.

Forests play a pivotal role in mitigating climate change. They are not just a collection of trees; they are Earth’s lungs, absorbing and storing vast amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2). Here’s a short essay highlighting their role in climate change:

Forests are vital in the fight against climate change. They act as carbon sinks, absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere and storing it in their trees and the soil. This process, known as carbon sequestration, helps reduce the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, thus mitigating global warming.

Furthermore, forests regulate local and global climates by releasing water vapor, which cools the environment and influences weather patterns. They also help maintain temperature by providing shade and reducing heat absorption. This temperature regulation is vital for biodiversity, as it ensures a stable habitat for various species.

The loss of forests through deforestation and forest degradation has detrimental effects on climate change. When trees are cut down or burned, the stored carbon is released into the atmosphere, contributing to the greenhouse effect and global warming.

To combat climate change, it is imperative to preserve and restore forests. Reforestation and afforestation efforts can enhance carbon sequestration, reduce emissions, and help stabilize the climate. Protecting our forests is not just an environmental obligation but a critical strategy in the fight against the climate crisis.

Mother Nature has bestowed us with many of its gifts in abundance and one of them is the life giving liquid; water. We have so much water around us in many forms that we have forgotten to appreciate this gift of nature. We humans have been misusing rather abusing this wonderful gift. It is high time that we realize that we have to now take some serious steps towards water conservation. We have to save water so that we have enough for future.

Save Water Save Earth

Clean Water is still a luxury in many remote regions of India. Many have to walk for kilometers every day in order to get two buckets of clean water for their family. On the other hand there are many of us who just waste water every day mercilessly. Getting the access of clean drinkable water should be the right of every citizen. We have to understand the importance of water and also must be aware of the problems that are related to the lack of it. We must educate our children that they must use water very wisely and must save for the future. We also contaminate the clean water that makes it unfit for drinking purposes. Various projects on water conservation have been initiated by our government to create awareness on saving water yet many continue to suffer due to the scarcity of water.

We all know that life will cease to exist without water yet we do not take any steps to preserve it. It becomes our duty to save water for our future generations. If water will not be there everything will vanish from earth. There will be no plants, no animals, no crops will grow, and we will not be able to survive. It is therefore important for us to wake up now and make amends in our actions.

Essay on Save Water Save Mother Earth – Essay 3 (400 Words)

Our mother earth has always protected us and has always made sure that we get everything that we need. All the natural resources have been there for the benefit of the mankind. But sadly in return we have only exploited and misused these resources. Water is a natural resource that is the foundation stone of all life forms. It is believed that the first ever life form on earth was born in water. This clear liquid runs as the backbone of living world. We have not only abused this resource but have also made it scarce. We have polluted rivers, oceans and have even disturbed the level of underground water.

Save Water Save Mother Earth

We cannot imagine life on earth without water hence we must realize that it is very important. According to research it is known that there is only 1% of fresh water of all water on earth. We humans are wasting it like anything. Those days are not far away when water will be as expensive as gold. There are number of ways in which we are contributing to the waste of water as given below-

  • Leaving taps open when not in use.
  • Leaving water sprinklers open in lawns and parks when not needed.
  • Not reusing water: Most of the water can be reused hence so much can be saved.
  • Polluting the rivers and other water bodies.
  • Unplanned water management.
  • Deforestation also causes loss of underground water.

We must also remember that around 70% of our body is water, if there is not enough water on earth how will we survive. We waste so much water in our daily activities like washing cars, vegetables, clothes etc. Soon there will be a time when there will be very less or no water for our survival. Already there is very little water that is fit to use and remaining requires a lengthy process of purification before it gets consumed. We need ways where proper management of water must be done.

It is high time that we realize that we are creating a very big problem for ourselves and the consequence will be such that we might not be able to deal with them. Without water the whole living kingdom will die and soon we will have barren Earth. Wake and save water to save Mother Earth.

Essay on Importance of Saving Water – Essay 4 (500 Words)

Our mother nature has bestowed us with many useful gifts and water is one of them. We have abundant of water supply available on earth and nature does not charge any fees for its usage. But the unfortunate part is that we as humans do not realize this and take this gift for granted. We waste water in large quantities daily, we pollute the water bodies, and we abuse this wonderful gift. There are still many villages in this world where people walk many kilometers top get access of fresh water daily. We know that water is highly essential for our survival yet we fail to stop its misuse. The result is that fresh water is becoming scarce day by day and this poses a big threat to our survival.

Importance of Saving Water

There is no rocket science in the fact that it is very important to save water otherwise we will not be able to live. Water is the backbone and the foundation for all the life forms on this earth. Although we feel that water is enough on Earth but we do not realize that water is not a limitless resource. If we will not make efforts to conserve water soon the supply of fresh water will be exhausted. Water preservation must be at the top priority for the government authorities and for us citizens as well.

Preservation of water will have many positive effects on our society. Increase in urbanization results in draining of underground supply of fresh water. This results in less water available for important activities like farming and irrigation etc. If we conserve water we will be able to have enough water for our farms and the crops will be much better. Saving water also means not cutting trees as the roots hold the underground water table. In an effort to save water we will have to plant more trees and in return we will create a greener Earth.

We also have to protect out water bodies if we want to save water. The amount of pollution caused by us in the rivers and seas is alarmingly high and it is killing the aquatic life. We must stop water pollution immediately and make an effort to clean the rivers that have been polluted by us. A good aquatic ecosystem will make a better planet for us as well. Conservation of water will also ensure a proper balance in the life on the planet Earth.

We must realize that although we have a free supply of water by nature but it comes with a huge cost of responsibility. There is a huge campaign about saving water but we never take any note of that. As the citizens of this country we must teach our children and the younger generation about the importance of water conservation. It is important to pass on the knowledge so that the future can be saved. If we do not start saving on time soon the fresh water will exhaust and we will die.

Every day we hear to commercials and campaigns on saving water. Everyone around us is shouting out to us but are we really listening. Have we ever thought seriously about this problem? Water is one of the most precious free gifts that the nature has provided us with. We see an abundant supply of flowing water everywhere around us and we take it for granted. Water is highly essential for our survival and the whole living kingdom depends on it completely. Wastage of water is one of the most common problems all around the Globe.

Humans waste a large amount of water on daily basis and this has now become one of the major concerns. Many campaigns have been initiated in this direction but they are not proving as useful as they should be. Our Government has also started various programs and initiatives in order to conserve water but until we as individuals will not realize the graveness of the problem nothing will happen.

Effects of Water Wastage

  • The wastage of water has many harmful effects on us. We are losing the precious life giving liquid day by day.
  • One of the major effects of wastage of water is that the water table is decreasing. Water table is the amount of underground water which is very important for a balanced ecosystem.
  • Wastage of water also causes harm of agricultural activities. We know that water is one of the major parts on the crop cultivation. Proper irrigation is very important for a good crop hence if we waste water very little is left for the farmers to use.
  • Too much wastage can also cause very little water left over for personal use. We need water for all our day to day activities.

  • Take to bucket baths instead of showers, this can save a lot of water.
  • Fix any water leakage that is there in your house.
  • Turn off the tap while washing hands.
  • Try to reuse the water that you have used in doing laundry. Soapy water can be reused easily.
  • Use less water in washing cars.
  • Use less water for washing vegetables.
  • Do not let the lawn hose keep running for too long.
  • Do not pollute the water bodies.
  • Plant a tree, this will be very useful.
  • Conserve electricity as many power plants run on hydro power. So saving electricity will help you save water in return.

Although we all are aware of the fact the wasting water is bad but very few of us take this seriously. We have to understand the importance of water conservation and we must take steps in saving water. Not only that, we must also teach our children in their student life about the importance of conservation so that they can save their own future.

Long Essay on Save Water Save Earth – Essay 6 (1000 Words)

Water is one of the most important natural resources given by Mother Nature. It is not only important but a necessity for the survival of all the living species on this planet. It acts as a backbone to the existence of life on earth. Apart from supporting life, water also acts as a medium which helps to flourish biodiversity and in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem. We should feel lucky that earth is the only known planet which has water and all known forms of life in the universe.

It is the natural tendency of human beings that they start taking things for granted and same thing has happened with this precious natural gift also. People waste too much of water during their daily activities without thinking of the end result. The sources of fresh water are very limited and if we do not wake up now then it might be too late for us to act. Thus it is important that we take drastic steps now for the conservation of water and save our planet from getting barren.

Why to Save Water

It is a common question that why we should save water when we already have huge water bodies like oceans, seas, rivers, lakes etc. We completely admit that around 71% of earth’s surface is covered by water but the reality is that only 1% of it is fit for the human consumption and use. Also the sources of fresh and clean water are very limited and those available also are prone to pollution and contamination.

Another issue is the ever growing population which raises an exceptionally high demand on the sources of clean drinking water. Rapid industrialization and urbanization have also put pressure on these sources of water. All these factors have overused the ground water to fulfill the high demands leading to the decline in the ground water level and pollution of water bodies. Also scanty rainfalls and droughts in many areas have only added more to the problem.

If these things continue without any control then very soon there might be huge water crisis in the world. Forecasting this issue in the future it becomes important that we start taking action now itself. It is important that we make people aware about the ill effects of water scarcity and its effect on our planet and lives.

How Water is Vital for Life on Earth

Water plays a vital role in survival and maintenance of life on earth. It is because of water that earth is called as a blue planet. Water is the rare commodity in the universe and wherever it exists there will be definitely some forms of life. It is because of water that life has flourished on earth and nowhere else. Many space expeditions have been launched just to find water on other planets as it is believed that if there is water there might also be a possibility of life.

Human body consists of 57-60% of water and we cannot even imagine how water scarcity could affect the normal health of a human being. All the species on the earth are totally dependent on water and if there will be no water available on earth then it might also become a barren land just like other planets in our solar system.

How Saving Water will Save Earth

Fresh water sources are depleting day by day due to scanty rainfalls and droughts. The water present in rivers and lakes are also getting used up by fulfilling the demands of urban population. Pollution and contamination of water bodies have also made many water sources unsuitable for human consumption. If these things are not controlled and no steps are taken for the conservation of water then it will pose a serious threat to the survival of life on earth. Conservation of water will benefit us in many ways and some of them are described below:

  • Support Life on Earth

Conservation of water will ensure the availability of fresh water for our future generations. It will help the survival of human beings as well as other species on earth and maintain the balance of the earth’s ecosystem.

  • Replenish Ground Water

Nature has its own way of replenishing its resources. Saving water will reduce the pressure on ground water helping it to replenish gradually by rainfalls and ground water river streams.

  • Supports Vegetation

The increase in ground water will help to sustain the vegetation that majorly depends on groundwater, like plants and trees. The more vegetation available on earth will help to hold more water on earth from evaporating thus balancing the water cycle.

  • Availability of Water to Deprived Areas

The more we conserve water, more it becomes available to the areas which are deprived of water supply helping the population to have access to clean and safe water. Access to clean water will also help to reduce the number of deaths caused due to consumption of contaminated water.

We can save water in various ways and what exactly it requires is a sense of responsibility and care for Mother Nature. Our small steps taken together will not only benefit us but it will also make earth a better place to live in for our future generations. We should make the habit of saving water and avoid its wastage not only in our homes but also in our localities, society offices etc.

We should also spread the awareness regarding Save Water, Save Earth initiative and make people realize how water scarcity could affect us and our ecosystem. If we unite together for the cause and include water saving habit in our routine then there will be no water scarcity in the world and everyone will have access to safe and clean water.
