Student questions about assignments

Always contact the Student Hub if you are having technical issues close to an assignment deadline or during a summative assessment.

First steps with troubleshooting

  • Identify the assessment platform, submission location and window – are you looking in the right place and is the assessment available at this time?
  • Try a different browser
  • Try using SVE
  • Try a different device (find on campus computer)

Accepted file types, file sizes

Microsoft office 365.

You are strongly advised to use your Microsoft Office 365 account when writing and saving your assignment.

You can sign into your  Office 365 account  with your University email and password. This gives you access to applications such as:

  • OneDrive storage

We recommend you use Adobe software to create PDFs.

  • Download Adobe Acrobat Reader

Note that Turnitin submissions require 20 readable words. If you are converting an image into a PDF (e.g. a handwritten document) please add at least 20 typed words to ensure that you can submit the document.

By Assessment

Please note that your instructor can select which file types are accepted for each assignment. Check the details of the assessment carefully.

By Assessment platform

  • Blackboard supported file types
  • Turnitin file requirements

Only certain file types with at least 20 words will be accepted by Turnitin similarity checker.

  • What platform is being used for submission (if known). E.g Blackboard, Turnitin, Panopto
  • The Blackboard course ID/name
  • Your assignment deadline
  • Your course instructor name
  • What browser or device you are using
  • If you have attempted any troubleshooting such as trying a different browser or device
  • Details of any error messages you may see
  • Any relevant background/discussion with your Instructor or the Student Office
