'Ayalvaashi' Review: Soubin's comedy-drama offers a lighthearted plot with a strong emotional undercurrent
'Ayalvaashi' is a delightful comedy-drama featuring Soubin Shahir and Binu Pappu in the lead roles, directed by Irshad Parari. The story revolves around a small misunderstanding between two close friends and neighbours, Thaju (played by Soubin) and Benny (played by Binu Pappu). Benny is wrongly accused of trying to sell a damaged scooter, which results in him being humiliated in public and in front of his father-in-law. He suspects Thaju of being behind the false accusation, and Thaju vows to prove his innocence, thus laying the foundation of the plot.
Soubin's portrayal of Thaju is impressive, and the character's financial struggles add an extra layer of depth to the story. The first half of the movie focuses on the misunderstanding between the friends. Somewhere, the movie does remind the viewers of instances from 'Maheshinte Prathikaram' in parts like how the lead character's ego is hurt and how he wows revenge. The film explores the fragility of the male ego, but the light treatment of the theme may leave the audience wanting for more dramatic intensity. The movie provides us with a glimpse into the personal lives of both lead characters' families. While Thaju and Benny are depicted as close friends, the depth of their bond is not fully explored, which makes it challenging for the audience to empathize with them when they have a tiff.
The movie's first half concludes with Thaju's determination to find the real culprit and avenge the injustice. However, this determination does not carry over into the second half, and the audience may not sense the same intensity in Soubin's character. While he does make an effort to uncover the mystery around the scooter, the execution of his pursuit may lack conviction. But it is definitely interesting to see how Thaju, with the help of their common friend Ajippan (played by Gokulan) try to unveil the truth. Although the movie attempts to add a comedic and unexpected element to the climax, the overall execution falls short of expectations. While the director may have intended to infuse a lighthearted touch to the storytelling, it seems to have affected the overall theme of the movie.

'Manjummel Boys' emerges as first Malayalam film to enter Rs 200 crore club
Soubin and Gokulan dominate most of the screen time, but their scenes together are well-crafted and enjoyable. The ensemble cast, including Nikhila Vimal, Lijo Mol Jose, Naslen, Kottayam Nazeer, and Jagadish, all deliver noteworthy performances. However, Kottayam Nazeer's cameo stands out with his amusing yet nuanced character. Soubin maintains his usual grounded performance, but his character's struggles with the taunts of family and friends are sure to tug at the audience's emotions. With minimal words or mannerisms, Soubin's screen presence evokes a deep connection with the audience. Gokulan's character Ajippan in the movie is the true embodiment of comedy. He reminds one of Sreenivasan's character 'Joey' from the movie 'Friends'. He means well but he is a complete chaos. Although he appears to be helping Soubin's character throughout the movie, his back-to-back poor judgments provoke laughter among the audience. Binu Pappu delivers a decent performance in the movie, and his scenes with his mother are particularly amusing to watch.

Ayalvaashi presents a lighthearted story with a simple theme and a talented cast. The film attempts to explore the consequences of a hurt ego but falls short in execution, resulting in several aspects of the movie feeling underwhelming and not reaching their full potential. However, the movie still manages to be enjoyable, with a homely vibe throughout its runtime.

The actress is terrific. All the other supporting actors also did a great job. I wish there were more romantic scenes after helen was found in the end. Anyways, the father-daughter relationship was beautifully portrayed by both the actors. And yes , this film did remind me of Trapped, starring Rajkumar Rao.

A Ranjith Cinema review: Intense plot and decent storytelling make it a watchable psychological thriller
Nishanth Sattu's directorial debut picks up momentum in the second half as the plot thickens with the murder mystery.

A worthy watch!

- Producer: Nishad Peechi
- Music: Midhun Ashokan
- Runtime: 2 hours 29 minutes
- Cast: Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Emraan Hashmi, and Revathy

- Music: Pritam Chakraborty
- Runtime: 2 hours 35 minutes
A Ranjith Cinema — it’s the name of Asif Ali’s new movie directed by debutant Nishanth Sattu. From the title, the audience can make out that it is a story set against the backdrop of cinema.
The Malayalam films Udayananu Tharam (2005) and Driving Licence (2019) also revolved around cinema and were hits.
However, while narrating the story of a budding director and events that happen around him in A Ranjith Cinema , Nishanth Sattu takes cinematic liberty to express his ideas.
A Ranjith Cinema mixes reality into fiction and picks up momentum only in the second half. The movie makes a decent effort to raise the issues faced by an upcoming director.

Ranjith (Asif Ali) is a young filmmaker who aspires to become an independent director. He works as a part-time TV anchor of a prank show on a satellite channel.
He falls in love with Pournami (Namitha Pramod), the daughter of a public prosecutor played by Renji Panicker.
The way they fall in love is all filmy, and the songs add colour to their romantic relationship.
Ranjith has a bad encounter with a young businessman played by Saiju Kurup when he pranks the latter in his show. Pournami’s father too dislikes Ranjith and doesn’t approve of their love.
Meanwhile, Ranjith accidentally shoots the killing of a highly influential lawyer on his camera, which brings a twist to the story. Following this, he faces many issues.
Being a filmmaker, he decides to make a movie based on these real-life events and even briefs the incidents to the producer played by Harishree Ashokan.
At a particular point, he narrates fictional incidents since he doesn’t finish the script. Impressed with the subject, the producer asks to complete the climax.
However, the fictional incidents he narrated to the producer begin to happen in his real life. A worried Ranjith visits a mental health practitioner.
This area of the story makes it a psychological thriller and draws reference to the 1990 Malayalam movie Iyer The Great where the protagonist (Mammootty) foresees the incidents.
In A Ranjith Cinema , Ranjith unknowingly makes up a story similar to his real life. How these issues affect him is worth watching.

A Ranjith Cinema has an impressive plot but the presentation in the first half is not engrossing as the story involves many incidents. However, the movie picks up momentum in the second half as the plot thickens with the murder mystery.
Interestingly, all the central characters are connected with this murder and the director adopts a smart way to interlink the real-life incidents with the reel story.
Some scenes have loud music which could have been avoided, especially when Ranjith experiences déjà vu.
The chemistry between Namitha Pramod and Asif Ali is a huge plus for the movie.

Asif Ali as Ranjith fares well in the flick. The actor, as a young director with serious problems, wins our hearts.
Asif delivered some good performances in his recent films Kasaragold (2023) and Otta (2023), though they didn’t do well at the box office.
Namitha Pramod, as Pournami, is good. Her scenes with Asif Ali are impressive.
Her appearance as a handicapped person in the climax does not come out as expected. But her willingness to change her looks needs to be appreciated.
Saiju Kurup, as a young businessman, plays a loud character. But he delivers it without exaggeration.
Jewel Mary, as Saiju’s wife, is decent enough.
Renji Panicker’s public prosecutor is a strong character and the actor pulls it off.
The film has some good melodies composed by Mithun Mukunda.
The cinematography by Sunoj Velayudhan and Kunjunny S Kumar is impressive.

Udal Ending Explained & Spoilers: How Did the Malayalam Movie End?
- Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below
Udal is a gripping Malayalam thriller directed by Ratheesh Reghunandhan that offers a fresh perspective on the noir fiction genre. Set in the backdrop of a typical Malayalam household, the film stars Indrans, Durga Krishna , and Dhyan Sreenivasan in pivotal roles. The film’s unique approach to storytelling and character development sets it apart, making it a notable entry in Malayalam cinema.
The plot is centered around Shiny, a housewife and mother who finds herself trapped in a life of monotony and dissatisfaction at her father-in-law’s home. Indrans plays the father-in-law, Kuttichayan, an endearing character who becomes a central figure as the story unfolds.
Shiny’s desire for freedom and excitement leads her into an affair with her boyfriend, played by Dhyan Sreenivasan. The dynamics of this relationship and Shiny’s actions drive the narrative, leading to a series of unexpected and thrilling events.
Why was Shiny so unhappy?
The story unfolds during the COVID-19 lockdown, where Shiny finds herself confined to her husband’s home. Once a working professional, she had resigned from her job post-marriage. She now faces the daunting task of caring for her ailing mother-in-law. The constant departure of home nurses adds to her burden, making her feel increasingly suffocated in her daily life. This backdrop sets the stage for the events that unfold in Udal.
Shiny’s only solace comes in the form of an extramarital affair with her college junior, Kiran. He becomes her confidant, sharing her frustrations and dreams of a different life. One fateful night, Shiny and Kiran hatch a plan to break free from her oppressive circumstances. However, their plan spirals out of control. The following scenes lead to a series of unexpected and traumatic events that form the crux of Udal.
Director Ratheesh Reghunandan does not seek to justify Shiny’s actions but instead provides a window into the series of events that transform her into a remorseless individual, desperate to escape her life’s constraints. The film takes a dramatic turn when the character of Kuttichayan, played by Indrans, evolves from a soft-spoken father-in-law into a figure of retribution and violence. This transformation is a pivotal moment in the film, marking a shift from domestic drama to a tense, psychological thriller.
The battle that ensues between Shiny and Kuttichayan is a gripping portrayal of familial conflict taken to its extreme. The audience, expecting a conventional narrative, is instead drawn into a silent awe as the intense confrontation between the daughter-in-law and father-in-law unfolds. The film skillfully navigates the fine line between moral ambiguity and the stark realities of its characters’ choices.
Udal ending explained: What happened in the end?
Udal concludes with a powerful and thought-provoking ending. Shiny’s character, while initially unapologetic and relentless, shows brief moments of remorse, adding complexity to her role. Her actions and decisions leave a lasting impact on the audience, raising questions about morality, choice, and consequence.
In summary, Udal is a film that combines elements of noir fiction with Malayalam sensibilities to create a unique and thrilling cinematic experience. The performances of Indrans, Durga Krishna, and Dhyan Sreenivasan are commendable, each bringing depth and nuance to their roles.
Ratheesh Reghunandhan’s direction elevates the film, making it a significant contribution to Malayalam cinema and a must-watch for fans of the thriller genre.

Aavesham follows the story of three college students—Bibi, Santhan, and Aju—as they confront bullying and ragging at their new Bangalore college. Seeking revenge, they befriend Rangaa, a local goon played by Fahadh Faasil. Their alliance with Rangaa shifts the dynamics of their retaliation, blending humor, action, and drama to explore friendship and loyalty amidst adversity.
Aavesham Movie Review: Script Analysis
Aavesham’s script is notable for its simplicity and effectiveness in delivering a compelling narrative. Rather than relying on elaborate character backstories, the script focuses on brief yet impactful character introductions, allowing the audience to connect with the protagonists through their actions and interactions. This approach keeps the plot streamlined and emphasizes the importance of visual storytelling, as the characters’ motivations and personalities are revealed through their behaviors and choices rather than exposition.
Furthermore, the script balances humor, action, and drama, ensuring the audience remains engaged throughout the film. The witty dialogue and situational comedy add levity to the story, while well-executed action sequences ramp up the excitement. At the same time, moments of drama and tension provide depth to the characters and their relationships, creating a multifaceted viewing experience. Overall, Aavesham’s script demonstrates a keen understanding of storytelling fundamentals, resulting in a cohesive and entertaining cinematic journey.
Aavesham Movie Review: Star Performance
In Aavesham , the standout performance undoubtedly belongs to Fahadh Faasil, who mesmerizes audiences with his portrayal of Rangaa, the local goon with layers of complexity. Faasil effortlessly embodies the charisma and depth of Rangaa, bringing the character to life with his nuanced expressions and magnetic presence on screen. His versatility shines through as he navigates the character’s journey from being perceived as challenging to revealing his vulnerabilities and complexities. Faasil’s performance grounds the movie, anchoring it with a captivating portrayal that keeps viewers invested from start to finish.
Additionally, Sajin Gopu delivers a commendable performance, complementing Fahadh Faasil perfectly as he brings humor and charm to his role. Their on-screen chemistry adds depth to the dynamic between Rangaa and his companions, enhancing the viewing experience. Rising stars like Roshan Shanavas and Mithun Jai Sankar also leave a lasting impression with their vibrant performances, contributing to the ensemble cast’s stellar portrayal of their respective characters. The star performances in ‘Aavesham’ collectively elevate the film, making it a memorable cinematic experience for audiences.
Aavesham Movie Review: Direction, Music
Jithu Madhavan’s direction in Aavesham is commendable, as he skillfully combines elements of comedy, action, and drama to create a cohesive and engaging cinematic experience. Madhavan effectively captures the essence of Bangalore, blending Malayali and Kannada cultures seamlessly to add authenticity to the setting. His ability to balance the film’s pacing ensures that the audience remains engrossed, even during slower moments in the second half. Madhavan’s direction also shines in portraying the characters, allowing them to evolve naturally and showcasing their complexities through their interactions and choices.
The music and background score by Sushin Shyam elevate the film, adding depth and energy to critical moments. Shyam’s score seamlessly blends power with funkiness, complementing the narrative and enhancing the viewing experience. The music serves as a dynamic backdrop to the action on screen, effectively capturing the mood and tone of each scene. Together, Jithu Madhavan’s direction and Sushin Shyam’s music create a synergy that enhances the storytelling and leaves a lasting impression on audiences.
Aavesham Movie Review: The Last Word
Aavesham emerges as a must-watch mass entertainer, with Fahadh Faasil delivering a captivating performance. Jithu Madhavan’s direction, stellar performances, and lively soundtrack ensure a fun-filled cinematic experience for Malayali movie buffs.

Olam Malayalam Movie Review
Olam review in depth.
“Olam” takes us on an enigmatic expedition into the depths of the human mind, exploring the labyrinth of emotions and mysteries that lie within. Directed by VS Abhilash, this Malayalam psycho-horror comedy dares to tread off the beaten path, offering a unique cinematic experience that leaves us pondering the complexities of life, reality, and illusion.
Plot: The film revolves around Arjun and Romanj, two friends who flee from the pressures of their families and find themselves lost in a dense forest. As they venture deeper into the wilderness, they stumble upon Thomas, the creator of a mystical drug known as Mad Honey. From there, the narrative takes an unexpected turn, immersing us in a psychological rollercoaster ride where the lines between truth and delusion blur. As the characters confront their innermost fears and desires, the story delves into the intricacies of the human psyche, teasing the audience with a series of thrilling revelations.
Themes and Tone: “Olam” skillfully explores themes of self-discovery, human vulnerability, and the consequences of our actions. The film’s tone oscillates between eerie suspense and lighthearted comedy, creating a unique and captivating atmosphere. It delves into the insecurities and complexities of the human mind, reminding us that reality can be a subjective perception influenced by our deepest desires and fears.
Acting and Characters: The performances in “Olam” are commendable, with Arjun Ashokan and Nobby impressively portraying the struggles and emotions of their characters. Lena shines in her role as Huda Fakhrudeen, while Binu Pappu adds an enigmatic touch to the character of Thomas. Harishree Ashokan and Pauly Vatsan lend their seasoned talents, although their characters could have been further developed. Despite the shortcomings in character exploration, the actors manage to captivate with their skillful portrayals.
Direction: VS Abhilash showcases his potential as a director, infusing the film with an ethereal essence that keeps the audience hooked. While the pacing may seem sluggish at times, Abhilash’s ability to build an immersive atmosphere compensates for the occasional lull. The forest setting serves as a metaphorical representation of the labyrinthine human mind, adding depth to the storytelling.
Score and Cinematography: The film’s music, composed by Arun Thomas, sets the perfect tone for each scene. The occasional background scores heighten the suspense and add to the film’s allure. Cinematographer Ashkar deserves applause for capturing the forest’s beauty with stunning visuals, leaving an indelible impression on the viewer.
Production Design and Special Effects: The production design is adequate, effectively creating an eerie ambience. However, the special effects could have been more refined to enhance the supernatural elements in the story. Despite this, the film manages to create an immersive world that draws the audience into its mysterious realm.
Editing and Pace: The editing could have been crisper to maintain a more consistent pace. At times, the slow progression tests the audience’s patience. However, the intricate web of the plot keeps the intrigue alive, preventing the film from becoming entirely monotonous.
Dialogues: The dialogues strike a balance between wit and profundity, adding depth to the characters’ interactions. The exchanges between Arjun and Huda stand out, offering glimpses into the characters’ inner struggles.
In conclusion, “Olam” presents a compelling and thought-provoking tale that lingers in the mind long after the credits roll. While the film falters in some aspects, its exploration of the human psyche and its unexpected narrative twists make it a unique addition to the genre. “Olam” leaves us with a sense of wonder and contemplation, reminding us that the human mind is a vast landscape of dreams and fears, waiting to be explored.
