Available Honor Badges

The player is granted an Honor Badge upon their first promotion; it borders the character portrait with a bronze border and one white star. Every subsequent promotion will add another white star, for a maximum of three stars. After the fourth promotion, the border switches from bronze to silver, and the amount of white stars will reset back to 1. Upon reaching three more promotions, the border switches from silver to gold; then from gold to platinum; then from platinum to diamond; then finally from diamond to legendary; the highest border for the Honor Badge. Promotions after that will not change the border, however will still allow the player to continue increasing their Character Level .

The list of Honor Badges goes as follows:

Overview Space Rig Assignments

drg promotion assignments

Assignments are short quests, consisting of a series of missions . You can have one active assignment at a time, and choose it at the Assignment Board in the Space Rig .

Icons Campaign.png

Biome rotation does not affect the type of missions that will progress an assignment. For example, if it calls for a specific Egg Hunt as its final mission, it will still call for an Egg Hunt mission in all future rotations. The biome, length and complexity of the mission, its mutators might change, but the type of the mission will stay the same.

There are currently 31 assignments available: Conquering Hoxxes IV , Four Promotion Assignments , Seven Prestige , Sixteen Weapon License Assignments , One assignment for unlocking Hazard 5 difficulty, Two Seasonal Assignments , One assignment for unlocking the Mineral Trade Terminal , One assignment for unlocking Industrial Sabotage , Heavy Duty and Weekly Assignments . There are four types of miners that can be promoted in  Deep Rock Galactic and each one has their own requirements. Players will need to level up the character they want to promote before unlocking and completing their promotion assignment. Promotion assignments are comprised of four missions that players will need to complete to unlock the promotion option for the Engineer, Gunner, Driller, or Scout in  Deep Rock Galactic .

In order to level up any of the four characters, players will need to complete missions such as a salvage operation in  Deep Rock Galactic . Players will need to reach level 25 with their character to unlock the promotion assignment and begin completing tasks for them. At the start of the game, players will choose their class, then work on leveling them up by completing missions. Promotions allow players to continue gaining experience for their character after reaching the maximum level in  Deep Rock Galactic .

Along with leveling up their character, players will need to earn a lot of credits and use crafting materials to complete a promotion. There are multiple promotions that players can unlock in  Deep Rock Galactic , and the credit fee ranges from about 9,000 for the first promotion to 40,000 for the later promotions. Players earn Honor Badges for each promotion, which are new frames for their character that start at bronze and get to legendary. Each level has one, two, and three stars, so players can earn a total of 18 Honor Badges from promotions in  Deep Rock Galactic .

Unlocking Character Promotions in Deep Rock Galactic

To gain the ability to promote a character class in Deep Rock Galactic , players will need to level them up to 25. The quickest ways to gain experience are to increase the threat level, complete missions with the Double XP anomaly, and extract a large number of resources per mission. Players will also gain additional experience for taking part in events and killing as many enemies as possible during each mission. Once players have reached level 25, they can begin the promotion process.

Engineer Promotion Assignment

  • Mining Expedition
  • Salvage Operation
  • On-site Refining

Gunner Promotion Assignment

  • Escort Duty

Diller Promotion Assignment

  • On-site Refining
  • Point Extraction

Scout Promotion Assignment

Promotion assignments can be completed alone or while playing with others. Many of the missions for promotion assignments, like  Deep Rock Galactic 's On-site Refining , overlap between character classes, so players can complete them quicker while playing together. Once the promotion assignment is finished, players can go to the character selection screen and select the promote option.

For the first promotion, players will receive an additional active perk slot, new assignments, the permanent ability to activate machine events, and access to Deep Dives and the Forge. Players also get new Honor Badges for each promotion and the ability to continue leveling their character.  Deep Rock Galactic allows players to promote their character using a prestige system that has different missions to complete and multiple rewards.

Deep Rock Galactic: How To Promote Your Character

Don't let the dystopic future get your Dwarf down! Promote them to unlock extras like The Forge, Deep Dives, and Prestige Missions.

You can only level up your dwarf in Deep Rock Galactic so much. There is a max level you can achieve per character. The max class level is 25 , after this, you can no longer upgrade your dwarf. This isn't the end of your gaming experience, though. Through Promoting your dwarf, you can achieve higher ranks as a player and unlock more content within the game.

RELATED: Deep Rock Galactic: The Best Perks To Equip

Promoting your character is basically a level-up and a reset at the same time. Your basic red, class level goes back down to one, but you receive a star above your icon. The more you promote your dwarf, the more stars you can get. Each time, you'll have to start from level one and work your way back up to the max level to promote again.

Things you can unlock by promoting your character include extensive dwarf customization and specialized, longer missions. Below is a step-by-step guide on how to level up your character even more in Deep Rock Galactic.

STEP ONE: Reach Max Level

If you mainly play as Scout and have reached level 25, that level will only be for Scout and not for the other classes. You'll have to individually level up each character if you want them all promoted. In the character selection screen, you'll see a red level under your dwarf icon. This is the class level. The blue level, located on the top right corner of the screen, is your personal player level. The player level does not affect promoting your dwarf.

Complete Missions and Assignments

  • Double XP Missions
  • Secondary objectives

The first step you have to take is getting your player to level 25. It's easy to do this if you main one class and play often. Some ways to maximize experience and start leveling up quickly are to select missions that have a double XP buff . When you select the map to start a mission, some planets will have positive or negative attributes.

Some may have dangerously explosive bugs, others may produce extra experience for you. If you or your friends have missions on your map that say they provide extra experience, make sure to do them all.

Another way to maximize your experience is to make sure you do your side objectives. Every mission you do has a primary objective, whether it be connecting liquid morkite pipes or collecting alien eggs. No matter what, there will always be a secondary objective that is optional. By completing these secondary objectives, you will get extra money and experience upon successful completion of the mission.

You also get extra money and experience from collecting way more ore than is asked of you.

The next step to promoting your dwarf is starting the Promotion Assignments at the assignments terminal. This terminal is located between the equipment terminal and the drop pod when inside the Space Rig. You can only start these assignments when you hit level 25. Promotion Assignments can be done with friends.

Promotion Assignments

The photo above shows what you should be looking for when selecting your Promotion Assignment. When you start a Promotion Assignment, you begin a series of missions. These missions are the same as the normal missions you usually complete, the only difference is that these ones will allow you to promote your dwarf once you finish them all.

RELATED: Deep Rock Galactic: Complete Scout Guide

The Promotion Assignment consists of four different missions for each dwarf. They can be escort missions, refinery, or old-fashioned mining. Once you complete all four, you're eligible for a promotion. It isn't that easy, though. After working hard during these missions, you'll have to pay a hefty fee to get the promotion once and for all.

Enter Memorial Hall

After completing the four Promotion Assignment missions, you can access the promotion terminal from inside the Memorial Hall in the Space Rig. To get to Memorial Hall, ride the elevator located to the left of the equipment terminal. The Promotion terminal is directly behind the statues in the middle of the room.

Once you interact with the terminal, you'll be prompted to select the dwarf you want to promote. Then you'll have to pay the price.

The Benefits of Promoting Your Character In Deep Rock Galactic

Prestige assignments, machine events.

  • Extra Perk Slot

Once you've promoted at least one dwarf once, you can access a ton of new content. There are two terminals at the back of the Space Rig that you previously couldn't interact with . These are the Deep Dive terminal and The Forge.

These are long and intense missions. The gameplay is the same, collect this and kill this, but they last longer and are increasingly difficult. This was added into the game to provide players who have already unlocked everything to continue to enjoy the game and face new adversities. Instead of having one mission that lasts around 35 minutes with a primary and secondary objective, you have three missions with two primary objectives each.

Each objective must be completed for you to be able to continue on to the next mission. Deep Dives are weekly, difficult missions for those seeking more and wanting a higher reward. Rewards include an item to activate Machine Events and next-level customization and upgrades that can only be used at The Forge.

This new system allows you to craft better things. You can receive Weapon Overclocks, which are weapon mods , and weapon and dwarf cosmetics. These special mods and cosmetics can only be crafted, purchased, and equipped at The Forge. To earn the special weapon mods, you need to complete Deep Dives or to complete missions unlocked from promoting your dwarves, such as Weekly Core Hunts and Machine Events.

Players must unlock these at first, but they can be started at the Assignments terminal in the Space Rig and allow you to earn paint jobs and cosmetics upon completion. You'll be able to have full pickaxe customization, whereas normally you would only find one piece of a full set.

These random objectives that can spawn during any mission. If you want extra money, experience, Weapon Overclocks, and Matrix Core cosmetics, you'll want to complete events. You may bump into these events without having the ability to enable them. They need a special key that can only be acquired if you've promoted your dwarf.

Starting a Machine Event involves protecting machines and extractions against waves of enemies. You can complete a Machine Event and not receive rewards. This happens when you don't have a Blank Matrix Core on you, received from Deep Dives and Weekly Core Hunts.

Need to know how to promote your character in Deep Rock Galactic? There’s nothing like showing off your progress and good work like getting a promotion. But how do you do it?

Deep Rock Galactic is full of missions and mining to enjoy in the dark caves of Hoxxes IV. Whether you’re going in solo or with a team, it’s tons of fun. And, with the Special Edition release date coming up, it’s never a better time to grind. Once you’ve done work, you’re able to be promoted. We’re here to show you how to do it.

How to get a promotion in Deep Rock Galactic

To get promoted in Deep Rock Galactic, you have to first reach level 25 for your class. If you haven’t done this yet, play more missions and finish assignments to get to the necessary level. You won’t be able to be promoted if you aren’t level 25, so don’t waste your time looking for the promotion assignment.

Once you’ve successfully gotten to level 25, head over to the Assignment Board and you’ll see the Promotion Qualification assignment for whatever class you’ve reached level 25 in. These assignments are a specific set of high-risk and high-payout missions. They’re different for each class. Here are the mission types for each class:

  • Mining Expedition
  • Salvage Operation
  • On-site Refining
  • Escort Duty
  • Point Extraction

Once you’ve completed the assignment for your respective class, it’s time to head to the terminal and get that sweet promotion. Luckily, I found that for my first promotion, these assignments didn’t take too long. They were well worth the time. If you have a specific class you want to promote, try to get used to the mission types before the promotion. It makes it easier to complete the assignment.

Where to find the Promotion Terminal in Deep Rock Galactic

Once you’re at level 25, and completed the Promotion assignment, head to the Memorial Hall. Behind the big statue and up the ramp is the Promotion Terminal. Go here, and you’ll be able to be promoted.

A screenshot of Deep Rock Galactic, a game featuring Memorial Hall to promote their character.

Unfortunately, being promoted means you do have to pay a fee. However, this is well worth it for the rewards you’ll get.

Never turn it down

You should always promote yourself when you can. While you do have to pay a fee, it’s small and well worth the rewards you get for it. Plus, you get to show off to everyone you play with as promotions are the prestige levels in the game.

What do you get for getting promoted in Deep Rock Galactic?

As a reward for promotion, you’ll receive the Honor Badge . This is a bronze border around your profile with a star at the top. For your first promotion, you’ll unlock the border. Future promotions will add stars to the border and change it from bronze to other colors. You’ll also receive three rewards to claim, which will be useful for the endgame.

Getting promoted will reset your level to one, as well. This will allow you to continue leveling up and earning rewards for it. You’ll also gain access to the Deep Dives endgame activity, and The Forge terminal.

That’s everything you need to know about how to promote your dwarf in Deep Rock Galactic. If you’re looking for more info, check out our Season 5 release window for all the news on the next season of the game.

Deep Rock Galactic – How to Promote Guide

Deep Rock Galactic Promotion

One of the commonly asked questions by Deep Rock Galactic players is how to promote. It’s easy to have no idea how to promote your class if you’re doing it for the first time. Plus, the developer has changed the method for doing it a few times. Continue reading our guide below for a quick walkthrough.

How to Promote in Deep Rock Galactic

Every class follows the same system regarding promotions. You have to reach level 25 with a class and then complete an assignment for it specifically. Each assignment has a slightly different name but the Scout one is, “PROM42.SC: PROMOTION QUALIFICATION – SCOUT”.

Deep Rock Galactic Promote Assignment

The assignment board always has each class’s promotion qualification showing.

Upon starting a promotion assignment, there are four missions before you can promote a class. Once you’ve completed these missions, head over to the Character Selection terminal in your cell.  Choose the class that you’ve completed the assignment with and a promote button will be available. It’s as simple as pressing that button and paying the promotion cost.

The screenshot below shows how the Character Selection screen looks if you’re ready to promote a class. Fortunately, it’s nothing too complicated as shown.

Deep Rock Galactic Gunner Promotion

If you’re still having trouble or the developer changed it again, feel free to comment below our guide for some help. I’ll do my best to answer whatever questions you may have. Otherwise, if you’re one of many players wondering what the point of promoting a class is, continue reading below.

What is a Promotion For?

Deep Rock Galactic promotions serve a few purposes with some being purely cosmetic and others functional. Aside from showing off, the first reason listed below is huge for getting an advantage in-game.

  • An extra perk slot from the first promotion for the class promoted.
  • An honor badge/frame around your character portrait.
  • Deep Dives become available.
  • Machine Events like the Exterminator event are available. The first promotion gives a Tritilyte Key for these.
  • Promoting resets your red character level to 1 so you can continue leveling.

Do You Lose Anything?

Players don’t lose anything by promoting a class in Deep Rock Galactic. Originally, the developer referred to the promotion system as retiring and players would lose weapons and upgrades. However, that system was overhauled to what we have now and this is no longer the case.

The only thing a player loses is their character level (red). This doesn’t lead to any content disappearing. As we already mentioned previously, if you’re still not sure how something works, drop a comment below the guide.

Deep Rock Galactic is available on Xbox One and PC via Humble Bundle  and  Steam Early Access as of February 28, 2018.

How to promote your character in Deep Rock Galactic

How to promote your character in Deep Rock Galactic

Image of Tom Power

Deep Rock Galactic may seem like a game where you only mine resources in procedurally generated caves as a badass dwarf. Look deeper though — pun intended — and you’ll find a class system that enables you to level up and promote those characters.

Promoting your playable character of choice isn’t as easy as it sounds, though. There’s a bit of work that needs to go into earning a promotion and, even if you put in the hours to get it, it can be tricky to work out how to actually promote dwarves.

Here’s how to promote your character in Deep Rock Galactic .

How to promote your character in Deep Rock Galactic

Before you can attempt to promote your Deep Rock Galactic character, you’ll have to level them up. There are four classes to choose from at the start of the game — Engineer, Gunner, Driller, and Scout — and each can be leveled up by conducting missions in the game.

Once your character reaches level 25, you’ll be on your way to earning a promotion. Before your dwarf can earn his stripes, however, you’ll need to complete a specific assignment to prove you’re worthy of a promotion. Each class has a different assignment, and each assignment contains four unique missions. You can find these new assignments on the Assignment Board in the Space Rig section of the game.

You must complete these objectives in order to unlock the “promote” option in the Character Select section. Each class assignment begins and ends with Mining Expedition and Point Extraction missions respectively, but the two in the middle will differ depending on your class.

Once these missions and assignments are completed, you can promote your character. Head to the Character Select screen. You should see a “promote” button you can click. Bear in mind that you’ll need a large number of credits and crafting materials to achieve a promotion. Ensure you have enough resources to rank up before you click the button.

The promotion resets your character to level one, but don’t worry. You keep your weapons and upgrades, and the reset just allows you to start leveling up in this new rank. You’ll also earn an extra perk slot upon being promoted, and an honor badge to frame your character portrait.

Deep Rock Galactic: How to Promote Dwarf Classes

Image of Ashley Shankle

It’s not entirely obvious why you’d want to promote dwarf classes in Deep Rock Galactic other than to flex, but promotion does have its benefits. It’s not the same as changing classes, but the process is just as easy. However, you can’t do it whenever you want to. There are a few things you’ll need to do first.

In this Deep Rock Galactic guide , we’ll go over why you want to promote dwarf classes as soon as you can as well as how to promote them.

How to Promote a Dwarf in Deep Rock Galactic

No matter which of the four classes you’re trying to promote, the process is mostly the same. There are only two prerequisites when you want to promote dwarf classes:

  • The dwarf must be Level 25 in the class you want to promote.
  • You must complete the four Promotion Assignments for that class.

Once you have completed both of these, you can promote dwarf classes by heading to the Memorial Hall . You can find the elevator to the Memorial Hall near the Pickaxe Customization terminal. Head to the far end of the Memorial Hall, and interact with the Promotions terminal.

drg promotion assignments

Why Promote Dwarf Classes in Deep Rock Galactic?

There’s a lot more reason to promote dwarf classes other than for Honor Badges (those spiffy banners and stars around players’ icons). When you promote a dwarf in Deep Rock Galactic , you get the following benefits:

  • An additional active perk slot for that class.
  • The ability to activate Machine Events.
  • An increase in player rank.
  • The ability to use the Forge.
  • New assignments and deep dives.

When you promote dwarf classes, it resets them back to Level 1 , but the benefits are more than worth it, and leveling again isn’t the worst. The sole benefit to promoting a class more than once is to increase your player rank and get more Honor Badges.

Deep Rock Galactic Promotion — Your Quick Guide

  • by Matthew Paxton

Promotions in Deep Rock Galactic are limited-time events that introduce new content to the game, such as new missions, enemies, weapons, and cosmetic items.

Some promotions may also introduce new gameplay mechanics. These promotions are a way for developers to keep the game fresh and engaging for players over time.

How to Promote Characters in Deep Rock Galactic

  • To be eligible for promotion, players need to first accomplish level 25 for their characters, which is represented by the color red. A pop-up window alerting you to the availability of the Deep Rock promotion will be made accessible within the game to draw your focus to this.
  • You should accept a promotion qualification task from the project board. This assignment will necessitate that you finish four missions. While a level 25 dwarf does not gain any credit, players don't necessarily ought to finish things with the player they aim to promote.
  • After the player has finished the job, they are able to enter the memorial hall, which is located to the left of the equipment terminal computer.

Engineer character is still at lvl 16

  • You can find the terminal to activate a promotion behind the memorial hall. In order to do so, you will need credits and planet assets, the amount of which will rise for each promotion. While the criteria for your first Deep Rock Galactic promotion are quite low, you must already have them on you.

In Deep Rock Galactic, there are four different categories of miners that are eligible for promotions, each of which comes with its own set of prerequisites.

Engineer Promotion Assignment: Mining Expedition, Salvage Operation, Egg Hunt, and On-site Refining

Gunner Promotion Assignment: Mining Expedition, Salvage Operation, Egg Hunt, and Escort Duty

Diller Promotion Assignment: Mining Expedition, Escort Duty, On-site Refining, and Point Extraction

Scout Promotion Assignment: Mining Expedition, Salvage Operation, Egg Hunt, and Escort Duty

Promotion mission requirements for a gunner

Overview and Benefits

Promotion is a system in Deep Rock that allows players to keep playing their favorite class further than the maximum player level of 25, while still having a sense of advancement for the quests that they accomplish.

With promotion, users have the opportunity to keep raising their blue level, which corresponds to their player rank and unlocks a variety of components of material that are collectively referred to as player ranking rewards in the game.

In Deep Rock Galactic, when you promote a player to a higher level, that character’s level is restored to 1, but any acquired equipment or cosmetics are kept, allowing you to carry on playing with your desired build and aesthetic style.

Promotion Costs

When a player reaches rank 25 in just about any category and has finished all required Promotion Tasks, promotions appear accessible. For users who’ve already reached the maximum level for DRG’s best classes and wish to continue accumulating XP for that class, it functions as a prestige structure.

Dreadnought encounter

When a class is promoted, already acquired items and enhancements are not lost. The Memorial Hall is where you’ll find the Promotion station.

Honor Badges

When a player receives their first promotion, they get a bronze border with one white star around their character’s portrait. Every subsequent promotion adds another white star, with a maximum of three.

After the fourth promotion, the border changes to silver, and the number of white stars resets to one. The border changes to gold, platinum, diamond, and finally legendary as the player receives three more promotions. Although promotions beyond that do not change the border, players can still increase their Character Level.

It’s always beneficial to pursue promotion in Deep Rock as it grants you upgrades enabling you to access additional active perk slot and honour badges to display your level of expertise. Also, promotion is a crucial point of reference of gameplay [ 1 ] growth for other players in your group.
