Historical Event (Independent Day's)

The declaration marked the start of the diplomatic and armed resistance of the Indonesian National Revolution, fighting against the forces of the Netherlands and pro-Dutch civilians, until the latter officially acknowledged Indonesia’s independence in 1949. The Netherlands declared that they had decided to accept de facto 17 August 1945 as Indonesia’s independence date. The Proclamation of Indonesian Independence was read at 10.00 a.m. on Friday, 17 August 1945. The document was signed by Sukarno and Mohammad Hatta, who were appointed president and vice-president respectively the following day. Finally, The United Nations, who mediated in the conflict, formally acknowledge the date of independence as 27 December 1949.

Cut Nyak Dhien was a leader of the Acehnese guerrilla forces during the Aceh War. She was born in Lampadang in 1848. Following the death of her husband Teuku Umar, she led guerrilla actions against the Dutch for 25 years. She was awarded the title of Indonesian National Hero on 2 May 1964 by the Indonesian government.

Cut Nyak Dhien was born into an Islamic aristocratic family in Aceh Besar. Her father, Teuku Nanta Setia, was a member of the ruling Ulèë Balang aristocratic class in VI mukim, and her mother was also from an aristocratic family. She was educated in religion and household matters. She was renowned for her beauty, and many men proposed to marry her. Finally, she married Teuku Cik Ibrahim Lamnga, the son of an aristocratic family, when she was twelve.

On 26 March 1873, the Dutch declared war on Aceh. In November 1873, during the Second Aceh Expedition, the Dutch successfully captured VI mukim in 1873, followed by the Sultan’s Palace in 1874.

In 1875, Cut Nyak Dhien and her baby, along with other mothers, were evacuated to a safer location while her husband Ibrahim Lamnga fought to reclaim VI mukim. Lamnga died in action on June 29, 1878. Hearing this, Cut Nyak Dhien was enraged and swore to destroy the Dutch.

Some time later, Teuku Umar proposed to marry her. Learning that Teuku Umar would allow her to fight, she accepted his proposal. They were married in 1880. This greatly boosted the morale of Aceh armies in their fight against Dutch. Teuku Umar and Cut Nyak Dhien had a daughter, Cut Gambang.

The war continued, and the Acehnese declared Holy War against the Dutch, and were engaged in guerrilla warfare. Undersupplied, Teuku Umar surrendered to the Dutch forces on September 30, 1893 along with 250 of his men. The Dutch army welcomed him and appointed him as a commander, giving him the title of Teuku Umar Johan Pahlawan. However, Teuku Umar secretly planned to betray the Dutch. Two years later Teuku Umar set out to assault Aceh, but he instead deserted with his troop taking with them heavy equipment, weapons, and ammunition, using these supplies to help the Acehnese. This is recorded in Dutch history as “Het verraad van Teukoe Oemar” (the treason of Teuku Umar).

The Dutch general Johannes Benedictus van Heutsz sent a spy to Aceh. Teuku Umar was killed during a battle when the Dutch launched a surprise attack on him in Meulaboh. When Cut Gambang cried over his death, Cut Nyak Dhien slapped her and then she hugged her and said: “As Acehnese women, we may not shed tears for those who have been martyred.”

After her husband died, Cut Nyak Dhien continued to resist the Dutch with her small army until its destruction in 1901, as the Dutch adapted their tactics to the situation in Aceh. Furthermore, Cut Nyak Dhien suffered from nearsightedness and arthritis as she got older. The number of her troops was also decreasing and they suffered from lack of supplies.

One of her troops, Pang Laot, told the Dutch the location of her headquarters in Beutong Le Sageu. The Dutch attacked, catching Dhien and her troops by surprise. Despite desperately fighting back, Dhien was captured. Her daughter, Cut Gambang, escaped and continued the resistance. Dhien was brought to Banda Aceh and her myopia and arthritis slowly healed, but in the end she was exiled to Sumedang, West Java because the Dutch were afraid she would mobilize the resistance of Aceh people. She died on 6 November 1908.

They knew that i was the runner up in the robotic competition. Finally, we ate the cake and chocolate together.

Chapter 11: CUT NYAK DHIEN

Cut nyak dhien.

Cut Nyak Dhien was a leader of the Acehnese guerrilla forces during the Aceh War. She was born in Lampadang in 1848. Following the death of her husband Teuku Umar, she led guerrilla actions against the Dutch for 25 years. She was awarded the title of Indonesian National Hero on 2 May 1964 by the Indonesian government. 

Cut Nyak Dhien adalah seorang pemimpin pasukan gerilya Aceh pada masa Perang Aceh. Ia lahir di Lampadang pada tahun 1848. Setelah kematian suaminya Teuku Umar, ia memimpin aksi gerilya melawan Belanda selama 25 tahun. Ia dianugerahi gelar Pahlawan Nasional Indonesia pada 2 Mei 1964 oleh pemerintah Indonesia.

Cut Nyak Dhien was born into an Islamic aristocratic family in Aceh Besar. Her father, Teuku Nanta Setia, was a member of the ruling Ulèë Balang aristocratic class in VI mukim, and her mother was also from an aristocratic family. She was educated in religion and household matters. She was renowned for her beauty, and many men proposed to marry her. Finally, she married Teuku Cik Ibrahim Lamnga, the son of an aristocratic family, when she was twelve.

Cut Nyak Dhien lahir dari keluarga bangsawan Islam di Aceh Besar. Ayahnya, Teuku Nanta Setia, adalah anggota bangsawan Ulèë Balang yang berkuasa di VI mukim, dan ibunya juga dari keluarga bangsawan. Dia dididik dalam urusan agama dan rumah tangga. Dia terkenal karena kecantikannya, dan banyak pria melamarnya. Akhirnya, dia menikah dengan Teuku Cik Ibrahim Lamnga, putra keluarga bangsawan, ketika dia berusia dua belas tahun.

On 26 March 1873, the Dutch declared war on Aceh. In November 1873, during the Second Aceh Expedition, the Dutch successfully captured VI mukimin 1873, followed by the Sultan’s Palace in 1874. In 1875, Cut Nyak Dhien and her baby, along with other mothers, were evacuated to a safer location while her husband Ibrahim Lamnga fought to reclaim VI mukim. Lamnga died in action on June 29, 1878. Hearing this, Cut Nyak Dhien was enraged and swore to destroy the Dutch.

Pada tanggal 26 Maret 1873, Belanda menyatakan perang terhadap Aceh. Pada bulan November 1873, dalam Ekspedisi Aceh Kedua, Belanda berhasil merebut VI mukimin tahun 1873, disusul dengan Keraton Yogyakarta pada tahun 1874.Pada tahun 1875, Cut Nyak Dhien dan bayinya bersama ibu-ibu lainnya dievakuasi ke tempat yang lebih aman sementara suaminya Ibrahim Lamnga berjuang untuk merebut kembali VI mukim. Lamnga tewas dalam aksi pada 29 Juni 1878. Mendengar hal itu, Cut Nyak Dhien murka dan bersumpah akan menghancurkan Belanda.

Sometime later, Teuku Umar proposed to marry her. Learning that Teuku Umar would allow her to fight, she accepted his proposal. They were married in 1880. This greatly boosted the morale of Aceh armies in their fight against Dutch. Teuku Umar and Cut Nyak Dhien had a daughter, Cut Gambang.

Beberapa waktu kemudian, Teuku Umar melamarnya. Mengetahui bahwa Teuku Umar akan mengizinkannya berperang, dia menerima lamarannya. Mereka menikah pada tahun 1880. Hal ini sangat meningkatkan moral tentara Aceh dalam melawan Belanda. Teuku Umar dan Cut Nyak Dhien memiliki seorang putri, Cut Gambang.

The war continued, and the Acehnese declared Holy War against the Dutch, and were engaged in guerrilla warfare. Undersupplied, Teuku Umar surrendered to the Dutch forces on September 30, 1893 along with 250 of his men. The Dutch army welcomed him and appointed him as a commander, giving him the title of Teuku Umar Johan Pahlawan. However, Teuku Umar secretly planned to betray the Dutch. Two years later Teuku Umar set out to assault Aceh, but he instead deserted with his troops taking with them heavy equipment, weapons, and ammunition, using these supplies to help the Acehnese. This is recorded in Dutch history as “Het verraad van Teukoe Oemar” (the treason of Teuku Umar).

Perang berlanjut, dan orang Aceh menyatakan Perang Suci melawan Belanda, dan terlibat dalam perang gerilya. Kurang perbekalan, Teuku Umar menyerah kepada pasukan Belanda pada tanggal 30 September 1893 bersama 250 anak buahnya. Tentara Belanda menyambutnya dan mengangkatnya sebagai panglima, memberinya gelar Teuku Umar Johan Pahlawan. Namun, Teuku Umar diam-diam berencana untuk mengkhianati Belanda. Dua tahun kemudian Teuku Umar berangkat untuk menyerang Aceh, tetapi ia malah membelot dengan pasukannya membawa serta peralatan berat, senjata, dan amunisi, menggunakan persediaan ini untuk membantu orang Aceh. Hal ini tercatat dalam sejarah Belanda sebagai “Het verraad van Teukoe Oemar” (pengkhianatan Teuku Umar).

The Dutch general Johannes Benedictus van Heutsz sent a spy to Aceh. Teuku Umar was killed during a battle when the Dutch launched a surprise attack on him in Meulaboh. When Cut Gambang cried over his death, Cut Nyak Dhien slapped her and then she hugged her and said: “As Acehnese women, we may not shed tears for those who have been martyred.”

Jenderal Belanda Johannes Benedictus van Heutsz mengirim mata-mata ke Aceh. Teuku Umar tewas dalam pertempuran ketika Belanda melancarkan serangan mendadak terhadapnya di Meulaboh. Ketika Cut Gambang menangisi kematiannya, Cut Nyak Dhien menamparnya lalu memeluknya dan berkata: “Sebagai perempuan Aceh, kami tidak boleh meneteskan air mata untuk mereka yang syahid.”

After her husband died, Cut Nyak Dhien continued to resist the Dutch with her small army until its destruction in 1901, as the Dutch adapted their tactics to the situation in Aceh. Furthermore, Cut Nyak Dhien suffered from nearsightedness and arthritis as she got older. The number of her troops was also decreasing and they suffered from lack of supplies.

Setelah suaminya meninggal, Cut Nyak Dhien terus memerangi Belanda dengan pasukan kecilnya sampai kehancurannya pada tahun 1901, karena Belanda menyesuaikan taktik mereka dengan situasi di Aceh. Selanjutnya, Cut Nyak Dhien menderita rabun jauh dan radang sendi seiring bertambahnya usia. Jumlah pasukannya juga berkurang dan mereka menderita kekurangan persediaan.

One of her troops, Pang Laot, told the Dutch the location of her headquarters in Beutong Le Sageu. The Dutch attacked, catching Dhien and her troops by surprise. Despite desperately fighting back, Dhien was captured. Her daughter, Cut Gambang, escaped and continued the resistance. Dhien was brought to Banda Aceh and her myopia and arthritis slowly healed, but in the end she was exiled to Sumedang, West Java because the Dutch were afraid she would mobilize the resistance of Aceh people. She died on 6 November 1908.

Salah satu pasukannya, Pang Laot, memberi tahu Belanda lokasi markasnya di Beutong Le Sageu. Belanda menyerang, membuat Dhien dan pasukannya terkejut. Meskipun mati-matian melawan, Dhien ditangkap. Putrinya, Cut Gambang, lolos dan melanjutkan perlawanan. Dhien dibawa ke Banda Aceh dan penyakit mata serta radang sendinya perlahan sembuh, tetapi pada akhirnya dia diasingkan ke Sumedang, Jawa Barat karena Belanda takut dia akan memobilisasi perlawanan rakyat Aceh. Dia meninggal pada 6 November 1908

Ini merupakan adverbial clause yang diperpendek menjadi menjadi adverbial phrase. Namun perlu kamu ketahui, tidak semua klausa itu bisa direduksi loh. Hanya hanya klausa waktu ( adverbial clause of time) , klausa sebab akibat ( cause and effect) , dan klausa pertentangan ( contrast) yang bisa direduksi.  Untuk lebih jelasnya, bisa simak ulasannya sebagai berikut.

Ada beberapa konjungsi waktu yang bisa direduksi, diantarannya before, after, since , dapat dihilangkan dengan menghilangkan subjek dan mengganti verb-nya dengan V-ing.

Selain itu, kamu juga bisa menggunakan konjungsi when yang direduksi.

Adverbial Clause of Cause and Effects

Biasanya ditandai dengan konjungsi, as, because dan since yang dihilangkan bersama dengan subjeknya.

Adverbial Clause of Contrasts

Biasanya ditandai dengan konjungsi, although, though dan while yang dihilangkan bersama dengan subjeknya.

Biography of Cut Nyak Dien: The Female Hero the Dutch Feared

Indonesia has a female hero who comes from Aceh. The hero’s name is Cut Nyak Dien. Cut Nyak Dien was a great Indonesian female figure who never gave up in fighting against the colonialists. Cut Nyak Dien was later nicknamed the “Queen of Aceh” because of her strong determination in fighting Dutch colonialism in Aceh, Indonesia. Throughout his life, Cut Nyak Dien continued to fight and resist with the aim of achieving the nation’s ideals, namely freedom from colonial power.

The birth of Cut Nya Dien and her marriage to Teuku Ibrahim

Cut Nyak Dien is a descendant of Acehnese nobility. He was born in 1848 in Lam Padang Peukan Bada village, VI Mukim region, Aceh Besar. As a child, Cut Nyak Dien was known as a beautiful girl. This beauty is even more complete with Cut Nyak Dien’s intelligence in the field of religious education.

In 1863, when Cut Nyak Dien was 12 years old, she was betrothed to Teuku Ibrahim Lamnga, the son of Teuku Po Amat, Uleebalang Lam Nga XIII. Her husband is a young man with broad insight and is religious. Cut Nyak Dien and Teuku Umar are married and have a son.

Aceh’s historical history records that Teuku Ibrahim fought against Dutch colonialism. Teuku Ibrahim often left Cut Nyak Dien and his children because they were carrying out the noble task of fighting against Dutch colonialism. Months after leaving Lam Padang, Teuku Ibrahim came back to order to evacuate and seek refuge in a safe place. At the request of her husband, Cut Nyak Dien and other residents then left the Lam Padang area on December 29 1875.

Sad news befell Cut Nyak Dien, on June 29 1878, Teuku Ibrahim died. The death of her husband made Cut Nyak Dien worse. However, this incident did not make him despair, on the contrary, it became a strong reason for Cut Nyak Dien to continue the struggle of her husband who had died.

Cut Nyak Dien and the Eruption of the Aceh War

On March 26, 1873, the Dutch started war with Aceh. The Dutch, via the Citadel van Antwerpen fleet  , began firing cannons at mainland Aceh. Furthermore, on April 8 1873, the Dutch under the leadership of Johan Harmen Rudolf Köhler managed to land on Ceureumen Beach and immediately controlled and burned the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque, Aceh.

What the Dutch did then triggered the Aceh war led by Panglima Polim and Sultan Mahmud Syah against around 3,198 Dutch soldiers. However, the Sultanate of Aceh was able to win the first war against the Dutch when Köhler was shot to death.

In 1874-1880, under the leadership of General Jan van Swieten, the VI Mukim region was successfully occupied by the Dutch as well as the Sultan’s Palace which finally had to recognize the great power of the Dutch colonial era.

This incident forced Cut Nyak Dien and her baby to flee with residents and other groups on December 24 1875. However, Teuku Ibrahim remained determined to reclaim the VI Mukim area. Unfortunately, when Teuku Ibrahim fought at Gle Tarum, he died on June 29 1878. This finally made Cut Nyak Dien very angry and vowed to destroy the Netherlands.

Cut Nya Dien with Teuku Umar

After Teuku Ibrahim’s death, Cut Nyak Dien remarried Teuku Umar, an Acehnese warrior figure. Not only were they tied together by marriage, but the two of them united to fight the invaders. The marriage between Cut Nyak Dien and Teuku Umar is an interesting story.

Cut Nyak Dien reasoned that he wanted to fight together with the man who allowed him to go to war to fight the Dutch colonialists, not just wanting to be the head of the household. Initially Cut Nyak Dien refused, because Teuku Umar allowed Cut Nyak Dien to fight the invaders, finally Cut Nyak Dien accepted Teuku Umar’s proposal and they married in 1880.

With the union of Cut Nyak Dien and Teuku Umar, the morale and enthusiasm of the Acehnese fighters was even stronger. As if not wanting to waste the opportunity, Teuku Umar tried to approach the Dutch and strengthen his relationship with the Dutch people. On September 30 1893, Teuku Umar and his troops, numbering around 250 people, went to Kutaraja and surrendered to the Dutch colonial authorities.

Teuku Umar’s strategy finally succeeded in tricking the Dutch so that they gave Teuku Umar the title Teuku Umar Johan Pahlawan and made Teuku Umar the commander of the Dutch troop unit who had full power.

Cut Nyak Dien together with Teuku Umar strengthened the ranks of the fighters to again expel the Dutch from Aceh. Both of them fought with a burning fighting spirit. One of the successes they have achieved is reclaiming Cut Nyak Dien’s hometown from the Dutch colonialists. Apart from that, Teuku Umar also pretended to submit to the Dutch in order to get supplies of weapons which they then used to attack the invaders again.

Cut Nyak Dien and Teuku Umar’s Strategy to Defeat the Dutch

In order to smooth out the strategy to defeat the Dutch, Teuku Umar was willing to be considered a traitor by the Acehnese. Cut Nyak Meutia was no exception, who came to meet and scold Cut Nyak Dien. Even so, Cut Nyak Dien still tried to advise Teuku Umar to refocus on fighting and defeating the Dutch.

When Teuku Umar’s power and influence were quite large, Teuku Umar took advantage of that moment to gather Acehnese people in his army. When the number of Acehnese under Teuku Umar’s command was sufficient, Teuku Umar carried out a fake plan to the Dutch and claimed that he wanted to attack the Acehnese base.

After that, Teuku Umar and Cut Nyak Dien left with all the Dutch troops and heavy equipment, weapons and ammunition. However, they never returned to Dutch headquarters. The betrayal strategy carried out by Teuku Umar was called  Het verraad van Teukoe Oemar  (Teuku Umar’s betrayal).

Teuku Umar’s neat strategy to betray the Dutch made the Dutch angry and they launched a large-scale operation to arrest Cut Nyak Dien and Teuku Umar. However, the Acehnese guerrillas were now equipped with equipment from the Netherlands and were sufficient to fight the Dutch.

When General Van Swieten was replaced, the person who replaced him, General Jakobus Ludovicus Hubertus Pel, was quickly killed by the Acehnese guerrillas, ultimately leaving the Dutch colonial troops in a very difficult and chaotic condition.

Cut Nyak Dien Struggled Until Exiled

As time passed, Teuku Umar died on the battlefield in Meulaboh. Cut Nyak Dien’s second husband died because the intentions of his attack were known by the Dutch troops from the start.

Even though the people he loved had left him, Cut Nyak Dien still continued his battle for six years. He guerrillas from one region to another. During that time, he, along with other people and fighters, was faced with life’s difficulties: suffering, running out of food, money and weapons supplies.

Cut Nyak Dien, with his aging physical condition, continued to try to escape from the Dutch attacks. Although Cut Nyak Dien and his fighting troops began to weaken due to threat after threat coming from the Netherlands. Unfortunately, the commander of his troops, Pang Laot, betrayed him. The traitor and other Dutch troops then looked for Cut Nyak Dien’s whereabouts. They managed to find Cut Nyak Dien’s hiding place and then took Cut Nyak Dien to Kutaradja.

Cut Nyak Dhien (1848-1908) was a guerrilla leader from Aceh (Indonesia) who fought against the Dutch for 25 years. She was born into an Islamic aristocratic family in Aceh Besar in 1848 in the VI mukim district and grew up in an uncolonised area.

In 1880, Cut Nyak Dhien married Acehnese hero Teuku Umar, who allowed her to continue fighting. The Acehnese declared a Holy War, using traps and ambushes to attack the Dutch. Undersupplied, Teuku Umar and 250 of his men surrendered to the Dutch in 1893.The Dutch army welcomed him and appointed him as a commander, giving him the title of Teuku Umar Johan Pahlawan. However, Teuku Umar secretly planned to betray the Dutch. Two years later Teuku Umar set out to assault Aceh, but he instead deserted with his troops taking with them heavy equipment, weapons, and ammunition, using these supplies to help the Acehnese. This is recorded in Dutch history as “Het verraad van Teukoe Oemar” (the treason of Teuku Umar).

Teuku Umar and Cut Nyak Dhien continued the battle with their new equipment until the Dutch sent the Marechaussée. In a surprise attack Teuku Umar was killed. Reportedly, Dhien had said that Achenese should not weep for those who had become martyrs. Dhien continued to resist with her small army until its destruction in 1901. Caught by surprise, Dhien was captured, while her daughter Cut Gambang escaped and continued the resistance.

Reorientation

Dhien was exiled to Sumedang, West Java, because the Dutch feared she would mobilise the resistance in Aceh. In 1964 she was posthumously awarded the title of National Hero of Indonesia by the Indonesian government.

Saat menginjak usia 12 tahun, ia dijodohkan dengan Teuku Ibrahim Lamnga, putra Teuku Po Amat, Uleebalang Lam Nga XIII. Suaminya seorang pemuda berwawasan luas dan taat kepada agama. Dari pernikahan tersebut, mereka dikaruniai seorang anak laki-laki.

Dalam riwayat sejarah Aceh, Teuku Ibrahim berjuang melawan kolonial Belanda. Atas alasan itu, Teuku Ibrahim seringkali meninggalkan Cut Nyak Dhien dan anaknya.

Setelah berbulan-bulan meninggalkan Lam Padang, Teuku Ibrahim datang untuk menyerukan perintah mengungsi dan mencari perlindungan di tempat yang aman. Cut Nyak Dhien bersama penduduk lainnya kemudian meninggalkan Lam Padang pada 29 Desember 1975.

Pada 29 Juni 1878, Teuku Ibrahim wafat. Kematian sang suami membuat Cut Nyak Dhien terpuruk. Namun, kejadian itu tak membuatnya putus asa, sebaliknya menjadi alasan kuat Cut Nyak Dhien berjuang menggantikan sosok suaminya.

Selepas kematian suaminya, Cut Nyak Dhien menikah lagi dengan Teuku Umar , cucu dari kakek Cut Nyak Dhien. Tidak hanya diikatkan dengan tali pernikahan, tetapi keduanya bersatu untuk memerangi penjajah.

Bukan karena semata-mata ingin mendapatkan sosok kepala rumah tangga di dekatnya, tetapi Cut Nyak Dhien beralasan ingin berjuang bersama dengan laki-laki yang mengizinkannya terjun ke medan perang untuk melawan Belanda.

Cut Nyak Dhien bersama Teuku Umar menguatkan barisan para pejuang untuk kembali mengusir kape Belanda dari bumi Aceh. Keduanya melakukan pertempuran dengan semangat juang membara.

Salah satu peran Cut Nyak Dhien dan Teuku Umar salah satunya berhasil merebut kembali kampung halaman Cut Nyak Dhien.

Ia bergerilya dari satu wilayah ke wilayah lainnya. Selama itu, ia bersama rakyat dan pejuang lainnya, dihadapkan pada penderitaan, kehabisan makanan, uang, dan pasokan senjata.

Cut Nyak Dhien dengan keadaan fisiknya yang mulai renta terus berupaya melarikan diri dari Belanda . Meskipun pada saat itu, pasukan tempurnya melemah karena ancaman Belanda.

Sayangnya, panglima pasukannya, Pang Laot berkhianat. Ia bersama-sama Belanda mencari keberadaan Cut Nyak Dhien. Mereka berhasil menemukan persembunyian Cut Nyak Dhien dan kemudian membawanya ke Kutaradja.

Atas permintaan Pang Laot kepada Belanda, Cut Nyak Dhien mendapat perlakuan baik oleh Belanda.

Gubernur Belanda di Kutaradja, Van Daalen, tidak menyenangi hal tersebut sehingga Cut Nyak Dhien diasingkan ke pulau Jawa, tepatnya Sumedang pada 1907.

Setahun, masa pengasingannya, yakni 6 November 1908, Cut Nyak Dhien mengembuskan napas terakhirnya. Makam Cut Nyak Dhien berada di Komplek Pemakaman Gunung Puyuh, Sumedang. Ia menjadi salah satu sosok wanita Indonesia yang patut dicontoh keberaniannya.

Sejak tanggal 2 Mei 1964, Cut Nyak Dhien dianugerahi sebagai pahlawan nasional , demikian seperti dilansir situs resmi Pemerintah Provinsi Aceh.

Cut Nyak Dien lalu dijuluki sebagai “Ratu Aceh” karena tekadnya yang kuat dalam melawan kolonial Belanda di Aceh, Indonesia. Sepanjang masa hidupnya, Cut Nyak Dien terus melakukan pertempuran dan perlawanan dengan tujuan menggapai cita-cita bangsa, yaitu terbebas dari kekuasaan penjajah.

Kelahiran Cut Nya Dien dan Pernikahannya dengan Teuku Ibrahim

Cut Nyak Dien termasuk keturunan dari bangsawan Aceh. Beliau lahir tahun 1848 di kampung Lam Padang Peukan Bada, wilayah VI Mukim, Aceh Besar. Semasa kecil, Cut Nyak Dien dikenal sebagai gadis yang cantik. Kecantikan itu semakin lengkap dengan pintarya Cut Nyak Dien dalam bidang pendidikan agama.

Pada tahun 1863, saat itu Cut Nyak Dien berusia 12 tahun, ia dijodohkan dengan Teuku Ibrahim Lamnga, putra dari Teuku Po Amat, Uleebalang Lam Nga XIII. Suaminya adalah pemuda yang wawasannya luas dan taat agama. Cut Nyak Dien dan Teuku Umar menikah dan memiliki buah hati seorang laki-laki.

Riwayat sejarah Aceh mencatatkan bahwa Teuku Ibrahim berjuang melawan kolonial Belanda. Teuku Ibrahim sering kali meninggalkan Cut Nyak Dien dan anaknya karena melakukan tugas mulia yaitu berjuang melawan kolonial Belanda. Berbulan-bulan setelah meninggalkan Lam Padang, Teuku Ibrahim kembali datang untuk menyerukan perintah mengungsi dan mencari perlindungan di tempat yang aman. Atas seruan dari suaminya itu, Cut Nyak Dien bersama penduduk lainnya kemudian meninggalkan daerah Lam Padang pada 29 Desember 1875.

Kabar duka menimpa Cut Nyak Dien, pada 29 Juni 1878, Teuku Ibrahim wafat. Kematian suaminya itu membuat Cut Nyak Dien terpuruk. Namun, kejadian itu tidak membuatnya putus asa, justru sebaliknya menjadi alasan kuat Cut Nyak Dien melanjutkan perjuangan sosok suaminya yang sudah wafat.

Cut Nyak Dien dan Meletusnya Perang Aceh

Pada 26 Maret 1873, Belanda memulai perang dengan Aceh. Belanda melalui armada kapal Citadel van Antwerpen , mulai melepaskan tembakan meriam ke daratan Aceh. Selanjutnya, pada tanggal 8 April 1873, Belanda di bawah pimpinan Johan Harmen Rudolf Köhler berhasil mendarat di Pantai Ceureumen dan langsung menguasai dan membakar Masjid Raya Baiturrahman, Aceh.

Apa yang dilakukan oleh Belanda tersebut kemudian memicu terjadinya perang Aceh yang dipimpin oleh Panglima Polim dan Sultan Mahmud Syah melawan sekitar 3.198 prajurit Belanda. Tetapi, Kesultanan Aceh bisa memenangkan perang pertama melawan Belanda tersebut dengan tertembaknya Köhler hingga tewas.

Pada tahun 1874-1880, di bawah kepemimpinan Jenderal Jan van Swieten, wilayah VI Mukim berhasil diduduki oleh Belanda begitu juga dengan Keraton Sultan yang akhirnya harus mengakui kekuatan hebat dari kolonial Belanda.

Dengan kejadian tersebut, memaksa Cut Nyak Dien dan bayinya mengungsi bersama penduduk serta rombongan lain pada 24 Desember 1875. Namun, Teuku Ibrahim tetap bertekad untuk merebut kembali daerah VI Mukim. Sayangnya, ketika Teuku Ibrahim bertempur di Gle Tarum, dirinya tewas pada 29 Juni 1878. Hal itu akhirnya membuat Cut Nyak Dien sangat marah dan bersumpah untuk menghancurkan Belanda.

Cut Nya Dien Bersama Teuku Umar

Selepas kematian Teuku Ibrahim, Cut Nyak Dien menikah lagi dengan Teuku Umar, seorang tokoh pejuang Aceh. Bukan hanya diikatkan dengan tali pernikahan saja, tetapi keduanya bersatu untuk melawan penjajah. Pernikahan antara Cut Nyak Dien dengan Teuku Umar terbilang merupakan kisah yang menarik.

Cut Nyak Dien beralasan ingin berjuang bersama dengan laki-laki yang mengizinkannya turun ke medan perang untuk melawan kolonial Belanda, bukan hanya ingin mendapatkan sosok kepala rumah tangga saja. Awalnya Cut Nyak Dien menolak, karena Teuku Umar memperbolehkan Cut Nyak Dien untuk melawan penjajah, akhirnya Cut Nyak Dien menerima pinangan dari Teuku Umar dan mereka menikah pada tahun 1880.

Dengan bersatunya Cut Nyak Dien dan Teuku Umar, meningkatkan moral dan semangat para pejuang Aceh semakin berkobar. Seakan tidak ingin menyia-nyiakan kesempatan, Teuku Umar mencoba untuk mendekati Belanda dan mempererat hubungannya dengan orang Belanda. Pada tanggal 30 September 1893, Teuku Umar dan pasukannya yang berjumlah sekitar 250 orang kemudian pergi ke Kutaraja dan menyerahkan diri kepada kolonial Belanda.

Strategi dari Teuku Umar akhirnya berhasil untuk mengelabui Belanda hingga mereka memberi gelar pada Teuku Umar yaitu Teuku Umar Johan Pahlawan dan menjadikan Teuku Umar sebagai komandan unit pasukan Belanda yang memiliki kekuasaan penuh.

Cut Nyak Dien bersama Teuku Umar menguatkan barisan para pejuang untuk kembali mengusir Belanda dari bumi Aceh. Keduanya, melakukan pertempuran dengan semangat juang yang membara. Salah satu keberhasilan yang telah mereka lakukan yaitu merebut kembali kampung halaman Cut Nyak Dien dari kolonial Belanda. Selain itu, Teuku Umar juga berpura-pura tunduk kepada Belanda demi mendapatkan pasokan persenjataan yang kemudian mereka gunakan untuk kembali menyerang penjajah.

Cut Nyak Dien dan Strategi Teuku Umar Mengalahkan Belanda

Demi memuluskan strategi mengalahkan Belanda, Teuku Umar rela dianggap sebagai penghianat oleh orang Aceh. Tidak terkecuali oleh Cut Nyak Meutia yang datang menemui dan memarahi Cut Nyak Dien. Meskipun begitu, Cut Nyak Dien tetap berusaha menasihatinya Teuku Umar untuk fokus kembali melawan dan mengalahkan Belanda.

Saat kekuasaan Teuku Umar dan pengaruhnya cukup besar, Teuku Umar memanfaatkan momen itu untuk mengumpulkan orang Aceh di pasukannya. Ketika jumlah orang Aceh di bawah komando Teuku Umar sudah cukup, lalu Teuku Umar melakukan rencana palsu ke orang Belanda dan mengklaim jika dirinya ingin menyerang basis Aceh.

Setelah itu, Teuku Umar dan Cut Nyak Dien pergi dengan seluruh pasukan serta perlengkapan berat, senjata, dan amunisi Belanda. Namun, mereka tidak pernah kembali lagi ke markas Belanda. Strategi pengkhianatan yang dilakukan oleh Teuku Umar disebut Het verraad van Teukoe Oemar (pengkhianatan Teuku Umar).

Strategi yang apik oleh Teuku Umar untuk mengkhianati Belanda ini membuat Belanda marah dan melancarkan operasi besar-besaran untuk menangkap Cut Nyak Dien dan Teuku Umar. Tetapi, para gerilyawan Aceh saat ini sudah dilengkapi perlengkapan dari Belanda dan cukup untuk melawan Belanda.

Ketika Jenderal Van Swieten diganti, orang yang menggantikan posisinya yaitu Jenderal Jakobus Ludovicus Hubertus Pel dengan cepat terbunuh oleh gerilyawan Aceh itu, hingga akhirnya membuat para pasukan kolonial Belanda dalam kondisi yang sangat sulit dan kacau.

Cut Nyak Dien Berjuang Sampai Pengasingan

Waktu demi waktu berlalu, Teuku Umar gugur dalam medan perang di Meulaboh. Suami kedua Cut Nyak Dien itu gugur karena itikad penyerangannya telah diketahui oleh pasukan Belanda sejak awal.

Walaupun orang-orang yang disayanginya telah meninggalkannya, Cut Nyak Dien masih terus melanjutkan pertempurannya selama enam tahun. Ia bergerilya dari satu wilayah ke wilayah lain. Dalam waktu itu, ia bersama rakyat dan pejuang lainnya, dihadapkan pada kesulitan hidup: penderitaan, kehabisan makanan, uang, dan pasokan senjata.

Pang Laot meminta kepada Belanda agar Cut Nyak Dien mendapat perlakuan baik oleh Belanda. Gubernur Belanda di Kutaradja, Van Daalen, tidak menyenangi hal tersebut sehingga Cut Nyak Dien diasingkan ke pulau Jawa, tepatnya di Sumedang, Jawa Barat, pada 1907.

Setahun masa pengasingannya, Cut Nyak Dien mengakhiri perjuangan selama masa hidupnya. Cut Nyak Dien menjadi salah satu sosok wanita Indonesia yang patut dicontoh keberaniannya. Sejak 2 Mei 1964, Cut Nyak Dien dianugerahi sebagai pahlawan nasional Indonesia melalui SK Presiden RI No.106 Tahun 1964 pada tanggal 2 Mei 1964. Cut Nyak Dien merupakan seorang perempuan Aceh yang tidak kenal menyerah dalam berjuang, ia terus berjuang hingga akhir hayatnya.

Akhir Hayat Cut Nyak Dien

Pang Laot, seorang pengawal Cut Nyak Dien melaporkan lokasi markas Cut Nyak Dien kepada Belanda. Hal tersebut membuat Belanda menyerang markas Cut Nyak Dien di Beutong Le Sageu. Pasukan Cut Nyak Dien terkejut dan bertempur dengan mati-matian, hingga akhirnya Cut Nyak Dien ditangkap dan dibawa ke Banda Aceh.

Setelah tertangkap oleh Belanda, Cut Nyak Dien dibawa dan dirawat di Banda Aceh. Penyakit rabun dan encoknya berangsur sembuh. Namun, malangnya Cut Nyak Dien dibuang ke tanah Sumedang, Jawa Barat.

Cut Nyak Dien dibawa ke Sumedang, Jawa Barat, bersama tahanan politik Aceh lain dan menarik perhatian salah satu orang yaitu bupati Suriaatmaja. Tahanan laki-laki lainnya juga turut menyatakan perhatian mereka kepada Cut Nyak Dien, namun tentara Belanda dilarang mengungkap identitas tahanan.

Cut Nyak Dien ditahan bersama seorang ulama bernama Ilyas dan ulama tersebut segera menyadari bahwa Cut Nyak Dien merupakan ahli dalam agama Islam. Hal itu membuat Cut Nyak Dien dijuluki sebagai “Ibu Perbu”.

Makam Cut Nyak Dien

Cut Nyak Dien meninggal pada 6 November 1908 karena usianya yang sudah tua dan kondisinya yang sering sakit-sakitan. Setelah itu, Cut Nyak Dien dimakamkan di daerah pengasingannya di Sumedang. Makam Cut Nyak Dien sendiri baru ditemukan pada tahun 1959, itu juga karena permintaan Ali Hasan, Gubernur Aceh saat itu.

Presiden Soekarno melalui Surat Keputusan Presiden Republik Indonesia Nomor 106 Tahun 1964 menetapkan Cut Nyak Dien sebagai Pahlawan Nasional pada 2 Mei 1962. Sementara rumah Cut Nyak Dien di Aceh dibangun kembali oleh pemerintah daerah setempat sebagai simbol perjuangannya di Tanah Rencong. Hingga sekarang, cerita tentang perjuangan Cut Nyak Dien masih sering diperbincangkan dan dipelajari sebagai bagian dari sejarah di sekolah-sekolah dan pengetahuan umum.

Buku ini menceritakan sosok 21 wanita tangguh yang oleh budaya, agama, adat dan reusam Aceh. Sering dijumpai ada wanita yang mahir dalam mengurus kerajaan bahkan hingga mengurusi perdagangan sampai ke luar negeri. Ada juga wanita yang sangat pemberani, yang memimpin perlawanan terhadap penjajah Belanda hingga sampai titik darah penghabisan, ia bernama Cut Nyak Dien.

Di antara wanita-wanita itu banyak yang profilnya masih belum diketahui dengan meluas dalam sejarah, padahal peran mereka sangat penting. Buku ini disusun bukan hanya bersumber dari literatur, namun lebih banyak berdasarkan wawancara, visitasi, dan observasi. Penulis buku ini menyempatkan diri untuk mengumpulkan cerita-cerita tentang para wanita tangguh, di sela-sela kegiatannya sebagai pedagang dan konsultan di dalam dan luar negeri.

Buku ini memuat lebih dari 200 narasumber yang telah penulis wawancarai untuk memperoleh informasi dan data yang telah ia kumpulkan mulai tahun dari 1964. Buku ini juga merupakan hasil kegigihan penulis selama lebih dari 50 tahun untuk mengabadikan nama mereka, wanita-wanita tangguh, hebat, dan pemberani yang bisa menjadi inspirasi bagi para perempuan di Indonesia sekarang.
