How to Describe a Beach in Writing (21 Best Tips & Examples)

The gentle ebb and flow of waves, the warmth of golden sands, and the melodies of seagulls overhead – beaches captivate the senses.

I’ve described beaches many times in my own short stories and novels.

Here’s how to describe a beach in writing :

Describe a beach in writing by focusing on its unique size, climate, sand color, and location. Explore sensory details such as the sound of waves, the scent of saltwater, and the feel of the sand. Highlight cultural elements, marine life, vegetation, seasonal shifts, and local activities.

In this guide, you’ll learn everything you need to know to describe a beach in writing.

1. Unearth the Sands of Time

How to Describe a Beach in Writing

Table of Contents

Every beach tells a story.

Some are age-old resting spots for local fishermen, while others have seen shipwrecks, invasions, or have been silent witnesses to lovers’ tales.

Before diving into descriptions, research the history of the beach you’re writing about.

This will not only add depth to your narrative but also connect readers to a bygone era.

Plus, if you love beaches as much as I do, then this will be pure heaven for you.

While some beaches have preserved their old-world charm with untouched landscapes, others boast modern-day beach shacks, surfing schools, or yoga retreats.

Distinguishing between the ancient sands and modernized coasts can set the mood for your description.

2. Palette of the Sands

Not all beaches are golden.

Some have white, powdery sands, while others flaunt a rare black, pink, or even green hue.

The color of the sand can significantly influence the ambiance of the beach.

Dive into the specifics – is the sand fine or coarse? Is it cool to the touch or sun-baked and warm?

Often, the sand isn’t just sand. It’s interspersed with shells, pebbles, seaweed, and sometimes even fragments of corals. Highlight these unique elements as they add character to the beach and provide sensory details for readers.

3. Dance of the Tides

Some beaches are known for their calm, lapping waves, making them ideal for relaxation.

In contrast, others are marked by powerful, crashing waves perfect for adventurous activities like surfing.

Describe the rhythm, sound, and sight of the waves to convey the beach’s spirit.

Understanding the tidal patterns can greatly enhance your description.

Low tides might expose hidden tidal pools, while high tides might bring with them a sense of mystery and anticipation.

This also affects the beach’s width and appearance at different times.

4. Symphony of the Shore

The beach isn’t silent.

From the cries of the seagulls to the whispers of the winds and the rhythmic sound of waves, nature creates a symphony.

Use auditory descriptions to transport readers to the shore.

On popular beaches, the sound of children’s laughter, chatter from nearby cafes, or tunes from a distant radio can add layers to the auditory experience.

Decide whether your beach is serene and untouched or bustling with activity.

5. Coastal Climate Chronicles

Is the beach sun-drenched, making it ideal for sunbathing? Or is it frequently cloaked in mist, giving it a mysterious aura?

The weather plays a crucial role in setting the scene and can influence activities, moods, and narratives.

Beaches transform with seasons.

While summer brings in crowds and vibrant energy, winter might render the beach desolate, with only the bravest souls venturing out.

Describe these shifts to add depth to your narrative.

6. Sunlit Spectacles

The magic of a beach often unfolds during the golden hours.

Narrate the transformation of the horizon as the sun rises, casting a delicate pink and gold hue, or as it sets, engulfing the world in fiery reds and deep purples.

The changing colors reflect not only in the sky but also in the water and sand.

While sunrise and sunset are dramatic, the midday sun brings out the vibrancy of beach activities, and nighttime might unveil a sky full of stars or even bioluminescent waves on certain beaches.

7. Flora’s Flourish

Many beaches are lined with specific vegetation, from towering palm trees to delicate dune flowers.

Describe the flora’s color, shape, and how it dances in the breeze, adding life to the coastal landscape.

Floral aromas mixed with the salty sea air can create a heady combination.

Bring out the varied fragrances one might encounter while taking a leisurely stroll.

8. Fauna Features

Tidal pools might house starfish, crabs, or tiny fishes.

Coral beaches might be teeming with colorful marine life. Delve into the beauty of the creatures that call the beach their home.

From seagulls to pelicans and sandpipers, the avian world adds movement and sound to the beach.

Their behaviors, from hunting for fish to playful chases, can be delightful to describe.

9. Activity Avenues

Be it children building sandcastles, surfers riding waves, or yoga enthusiasts greeting the sun, beaches often become hubs of activities.

Depicting these can give readers a sense of the beach’s energy.

Not all beachgoers seek company.

Some look for solitude – a quiet corner to read, meditate, or just gaze at the horizon.

Highlighting these moments adds depth and contrast.

10. Textures and Touch

Beyond visuals, the feel of the beach is vital.

Is the sand powdery soft, or is it grainy and rough? Does the water feel icy cold or pleasantly warm?

Engaging the sense of touch can make descriptions palpable.

How does the beach make one feel? Tranquil, exhilarated, nostalgic?

Tapping into emotions can resonate deeply with readers.

11. Tastes of the Tides

A trip to the beach is incomplete without the taste of salt on your lips from the sea spray.

For many beaches, nearby stalls serve fresh seafood.

Describing the tantalizing flavors of the ocean’s bounty can make readers’ mouths water.

Beach destinations often have signature beverages – from coconut water to adult drinks.

Highlighting these drinks can set the tone and mood of the beach scene.

12. Auditory Adventures

Every beach has its unique sound of waves – from gentle lapping to roaring surfs.

These sounds are soothing and rhythmic, making them integral to a beach description.

Include the distant laughter of beachgoers, the chirping of coastal birds, or the playful shout of children.

Such sounds breathe life into the scene.

13. Historical Hints

Many beaches have rich histories, from pirate tales to ancient civilizations.

Weaving in some historical elements can give depth to the beach’s narrative.

Statues, forts, or old lighthouses can stand as silent witnesses to the past. Mentioning these can make a beach scene more vivid and layered.

14. Moods of the Sea

The mood of the sea changes with weather and tides.

While a calm sea can be serene and inviting, a stormy sea can be wild and dramatic. Depicting these moods can influence the story’s atmosphere.

Low tide might reveal hidden treasures like shells or ancient shipwrecks, while high tide brings in waves and fresh mysteries.

The ebb and flow of tides can be metaphorical and descriptive.

15. Colorful Canvases

Describing the varying shades of blues, greens, and golds of the sea, sky, and sand can paint a vivid picture.

Sunlight plays a role in these changing hues, so consider the time of day.

Beaches at night transform into a world of silvery moonlight, shadows, and possibly bioluminescent creatures.

Using a palette of darker shades can set a contrasting and mystical scene.

16. Human Imprints

From lone footprints in the sand to majestic sandcastles, human touch is evident on many beaches.

Describing these imprints can suggest recent activity or age-old legacies.

Sadly, not all human imprints are poetic (or positive).

Describing signs of pollution, like plastic waste, can serve as a stark reminder and add an environmental angle to your narrative.

17. Unique Underwater Worlds

Many beaches are gateways to underwater paradises.

Vividly describing the diverse, colorful corals can transport readers into a magical realm.

Each coral formation has its own charm, from brain corals’ intricate patterns to the elegant sway of sea fans.

Beaches often harbor rich marine ecosystems.

Describing encounters with playful dolphins, curious turtles, or schools of shimmering fish can add depth and wonder to your narrative.

18. Local Life and Culture

Many coastal communities have age-old traditions linked to the sea.

Highlighting local festivals, rituals, or even daily activities like fish markets can provide readers with a cultural immersion.

Local handicrafts or special beachside dishes can offer a sensory feast.

Be it a description of intricate seashell jewelry or the tantalizing aroma of grilled seafood, integrating local flavors can enrich your beach description.

19. Dynamic Dunes and Vegetation

Sand dunes, shaped by the wind, can change forms and create mesmerizing patterns.

Describing these dynamic landscapes can add an element of nature’s artistry to your narrative.

Coastal vegetation, from tall palm trees to dense mangroves, not only adds to the beach’s visual appeal but also plays a crucial role in maintaining coastal ecology.

Diving into descriptions of these can add both beauty and educational value.

20. Seasonal Shifts

While summer might bring in sunbathers, winter could wrap the beach in misty allure. Capturing these seasonal nuances can create varied and engaging settings.

Monsoon or hurricane seasons can drastically change beach atmospheres.

Describing the sheer power of nature during such times can infuse drama and tension into your story.

21. Adventure and Activities

From surfing monstrous waves to peaceful kayaking sessions, beaches offer numerous adventure opportunities.

Describing the thrill and challenges of these activities can inject action into your beach scenes.

Leisurely activities like beachcombing can be therapeutic and rewarding.

Detailed descriptions of discovering seashells, driftwood, or even messages in bottles can add mystery and intrigue.

3 Examples of How to Describe a Beach

Let’s look at three imaginative depictions of beaches, each resonating with the unique essence of its respective genre.

  • Romance : The serene beach under the moon’s embrace seemed to whisper tales of ageless romances. The moonlight cast a silvery glow on the quiet beach, where waves serenaded the shores. The sands, cool beneath their feet, became their dance floor. Their hearts resonated with the rhythm of the waves, as they lost themselves in each other’s embrace, amidst the vastness of the ocean.
  • Mystery/Thriller : A heavy atmosphere weighed down on the beach, with secrets buried as deep as its oceanic abyss. The beach was eerily silent, save for the relentless pounding of the waves. A thick fog hung low, concealing much of the shore. As Detective Adams approached, the beam from his flashlight revealed a set of footprints, leading into the mysterious abyss of the night.
  • Fantasy : To the common eye, it’s a beach. But for those with the sight, The Golden Sands of Elaria were gateways to otherworldly adventures. As dawn broke, the sands sparkled with magic. Mermaids emerged from the turquoise depths, dragons soared above the azure skies, and ancient runes appeared, guiding brave adventurers to hidden realms beneath.

Introduction

Description of a beach.

Summer is the perfect time for individuals to visit and enjoy the marvelous scenes along the coast. In addition, the feelings and experiences felt on the beach during the summer are always fantastic. Several sceneries and experiences are seen and felt at the beach during summer. These include; the plantation along the beach and inside the sea, the animals, the waters, and the people found on the beach.

The beach appears to be alive and joyful with the presence of the natural vegetation. There are evergreen plantations both along and inside the beach. Images of buoyant seaweeds can be seen along the shore. Palms trees are seen to stand tall along the beach, dancing to the tune of the breeze emanating from the waters of the sea.

The sea grapes and the sea oats are also observed gathered in clusters in the sea next to the shore. Their colored flowers are splendid and brighten at the shining of the summer sun. The sweet scent of the flower grapes sends a signal to the world about the hope brought by nature.

The atmosphere is fully intensified by the aroma produced by the buoyant sea flowers. In addition, from afar, images of leafless trees are also observed. The perfect combination of the vegetation along the beach and inside the sea displays the beauty of nature to the highest peak.

It mesmerizes the eyes to gaze at the beautiful creatures that hover all over the beach and on the deep-sea waters. There are sights of beautiful birds that fly all over the dry shoreland and over the seawaters. Their colored feathers brightened the sea with a marvelous appearance at their illumination by the sun’s rays.

There are varieties of birds that are in the vicinity. For instance, there are pelicans and seagulls. Pelicans are seen hovering over the sand, singing sweet melodies that make the atmosphere at the beach vibrant. The seagulls are also observed to be flying over the seawater in small groups. Some of the birds are gathered in groups spreading the wings that cloaked a soft shadow on the gentle water ripples.

Next to the shore, there are sea turtles that seem to enjoy the summer heat from the sun. Their eggs are also seen to be exposed on the sand by the children that play on the shoreline. Bees are seen flying from one flower to another over the sea grapes. The humming of the bees as they gather nectar from the sea flowers attracts insect-eating birds.

Large crowds are observed all over the seashore. These people come to enjoy themselves on the beach at this period of the year. In the sea, people of all ages and sexes are seen swimming and playing with the cool seawater. The scorching heat from the summer sun is felt on the forehead of all individuals.

This makes the people chill themselves in the cool waters of the sea. The children are seen playing beach ball on the shoreline. Some children are also seen pelt each other with sand on the shoreline. Besides, young boys are observed climbing tall palm trees to gather fruits.

What is more, several activities take place along and inside the shoreline. Vendors are seen carrying ice creams and soft drinks all over the shoreline. Views of homes, hotels, and other buildings that run along the peak of the beach are also seen. On the sand where children play, pieces of shells are scattered.

In most cases, children collect the shells for fun. In the shades built along the shoreline, people are seen reading books, journals, and magazines. Some are seen idling on the sand, while few adults are observed playing football.

However, there is a disgusting scene of plastic bags, cigarette butts, food wrappers, and beer bottles along the beach. These items seem to pollute the entire shoreline and the seawater.

Anglers are also observed far into the sea casting large nets into the waters to have a bulk catch of their prey. Some of the anglers are also observed perching on the edge of the shore carrying sticks in their hands. Their faces displayed the anticipation that they had for their prey.

The deep waters of the sea produce a marvelous view for anyone who gazes at the sea. The water is seen to be slowly running low on the shore. Small waves are also observed crashing on the shoreline. The surface of the sea is seen to appear blue in color.

However, some portions are also seen to have the spectrum that results from the sun’s refracted rays. Deep inside the sea, there are high waves that lift boats up and down mightily. The shimmering waves of the sea that are clear and blue mirror the rays of the hot sun. The refreshing breeze that emanates from the seawater is enjoyable.

In conclusion, the beach has a perfect view and activities that are delightful to experience during the summer. It is a place that everyone would love to be at all times.

How to Describe a Beach - open book and beach background

Did you know that “beach reads” are more popular than ever?

A “beach read” is usually a light, fun book with a summer vibe. It doesn’t have to be literally set at the beach…but it doesn’t hurt. A lot of people love being at the beach, and a book can provide a fast, cheap, easy escape to a beautiful place…a virtual vacation.

Books with beach settings aren’t just for summer any more, either. Last December, I saw prominent displays of books with beach settings in more than one Barnes and Noble store…for readers who prefer sand to snow! It’s just another reason to know how to describe a beach.

Great post! Helpful as always—thanks!

Aww thank you friend!

Great observations! Here’s a haunting beach scene from a book I wrote that takes place in a dream:

It was in the cool early morning hours that Hannah found herself drawn to the Santa Monica beach in a dream. It was a place she recognized from movies and TV shows, yet despite having lived in Los Angeles her entire life, she had never been there in person. A chill mist hung low to the shore as she walked along the water’s edge, feeling the damp sand beneath her bare feet and the cool wash of waves between her toes. The air was moist and held the tangy smell of salt water and seaweed, and from beyond the gray misty veil came the lonely cry of seagulls and distant crash of waves. Up ahead, the Santa Monica pier slowly emerged as a faint outline against the gloomy sky, its rides and attractions quiet now. And still.

Tom, this is great! I have a lot of memories of the Santa Monica beach. You nailed it!

Thanks Bryn!

Ooooo. Poetic!

Great list Bryn! Here are a few snippets from my sci/fi novel soon to be published.

Rhythmic thunder of the surf permeated their world as a life pulse.

The ocean spread before Leilani till it touched the horizon, mirroring the ever-changing colors of the twilight clouds. Velvet purple water played a counter melody to the lavenders in the heavens.

As they walked down the path, the inland breeze rustled Leilani’s gown. She searched for the sky-creatures native to the scene but saw none. She heard no scream of the silver manu nor did she detect the slightest trill of a scarlet serf diver. Their absence made the scene artificial.

Jessie, I really enjoyed this! 🙂

I’ve been published with three different beach short story romances.

Shoal is also a shallow waterway. Sycamore Shoals, Muscle Shoals, Great Shoals, etc…

Horseshoe crabs are common on the beach in the Mid-Atlantic.

Eating steamed Blue Crabs is common in the Mid-Atlantic.

Fries with malted vinegar.

Oceanside. Bayside.

Pluff mud in the Lowcountry.

Ohhh, these are so good! I love the word “shoal” 🙂

Thiis is how I described a beach in my middle grade novel ‘The Slapstyx’:

They ran on down the slope and round the shoulder of the hill. As the beach was revealed to them in all its glory, they began to think better of their new home; it couldn’t be all bad if it was so near a place like this. The slope ended in two arms of rock embracing a pillow of shingle and a soft quilt of white sand. Beyond that, the beach opened out in a wide bay beaten into a flat golden sheet by great thundering breakers.

The story features a tribe of dirty and dangerous goblins who are helping a greedy businessman to pollute the sea with his disgusting detergent. For anyone who’s interested, the book is available here: http://myBook.to/TheSlapstyx

' src=

Great lists. They are going to be kept.

' src=

Bryn, Wonderful list. I wish I had found it sooner. I’ll need to revise my novel and use some of these. Thank you for sharing.

Beach Is My Favorite Place (Essay Sample)

Table of Contents

Introduction

We all have that one place that we escape to when things get too overwhelming. Where do you go when you need to relax? This essay talks about my favorite holiday destination, the beach.

I actually wrote this piece to once again remind myself that it’s okay (and necessary!) to sometimes take a break, be reminded of what really matters in life.

Descriptive Essay Example of My Favourite Beach

We all have some favorite places that we love to visit during the holidays. The beautiful scenes that we come across are a welcome reprieve for our tired minds after a long period of work.

Finding My Zen at the Beach

For me, the beach is the best place to be. Others may think differently due to unique preferences and tastes. Personally, I find that the seaside is a unique choice for a holiday destination. There is nothing quite as calming as the bright blue hues of the ocean. The wind dances with the waves, causing them to move almost rhythmically, capturing the attention of the vacationer.

Another reason why I love the beach is that I enjoy swimming. I particularly love doing this with my friends as the company makes swimming more fun and provides a great way for us to bond.

Sunsets at the Beach

Another stunning visual to be enjoyed by the seaside is the sunset. I truly enjoy the play of colors as day transitions into night – from dainty pinks to fiery oranges, even to rich purples. I find this picturesque experience exceptionally dynamic. It makes something inside me come alive. I don’t have this experience anywhere else.

One great thing about staying at the beach is that there is something to be enjoyed during the day and during the evening. I love that the beach stays open most hours as this gives me flexibility. I can choose when I want to visit and not have to follow a strict schedule, which works well when I’m on vacation.

The Beach During Evenings

I particularly love heading out at nightfall to visit the shoreline. The beach is very calm, peaceful, tranquil, and relaxing. It helps me unwind and takes away the stress that plagues me at work. Looking at the night sky with all the bright stars and the moon causes me to feel light-hearted.

Silhouette of Man Standing Near Body of Water

The best part for me is once night sets in, I can lay in the sand and stare up at the sky. I just linger there with my toes in the soft sand and think of all the things I am grateful for. I also give thanks to the Almighty Creator who made these majestic works of art.

I can only hope that I get to do this more often. My dream is to be able to frequent the most beautiful beaches in the world, to revel in the peace that they offer.

Make Time for Rest

These days, people are so busy with work and other obligations that they forget to pause and take a breather.

The tendency for many passionate workaholics is they keep scheduling a time to take a break, only to postpone it when something urgent captures their attention. While some of these are valid reasons to reschedule, most are really just convenient excuses to stay busy.

The glorification of busyness is the sad reality that keeps people from being healthy and well. We work our bodies to death and don’t give ourselves a chance to come up for air. At some point in our lives, we have been sold a false idea of productivity: that we have to work 24/7, and that taking a break is a luxury.

Breathers should not be seen as luxuries but as necessities. Rest is actually a productivity strategy. The way to truly accomplish things excellently is to do so from a place of rest. Work smart and you check off your to-do list without the anxiety and the dread. Work hard and you will find yourself resenting the actual work because it’s just exhausting.

Don’t wait until you are burned out before you take a break. Schedule regular timeouts for yourself and use those times to “escape” to a place that helps you take a breath. Your soul, your work and your other commitments will thank you for it.

Whether it’s the sandy beaches for you or the mountains or any other hotspot, my hope for you is that you will also be able to find your sanctuary and safe space. Believe me when I say you need it and deserve it.

200 Words Short Essay About My Favorite Place (Beach)

Where do always I go when I want to feel relaxed? My family and friends all know that I head to where the ocean is. The beach is my most favorite place on earth. There is something magical about this place that makes me feel lighter immediately.

My favorite time to go is during the summer when the beautiful colors of the sky are most vibrant. That the sunset is amazing is an understatement. I could watch the sun go down after a blazing hot day over and over again. The gradually-changing hues are a glorious sight to behold.

The beach is my favorite place to find inspiration. I often find that when I get stuck in a creative rut, the extraordinary natural elements at my favorite spots instantly rejuvenate my mental stamina. If only I could go back every week, I would. Just watching the waves move in sync with one another is the best way to recharge for me.

Relaxation is important for everyone. There are other places that I also find charming, but I’ve found my sweet spot by the seashore – I hope you find yours too.

Descriptive Essay About the Beach (Miami)

It is difficult to form a corrective idea of a beach without having seen one. Usually, a beach is a massive area along the shore of a vast water mass such as an ocean, sea, or lake. In most cases, it is often considered a place of relaxation since it is peaceful and quiet for anyone intending to see the beauty of Mother Nature at its best. The beach is one of the best places for entertainment and fun for adventurous people. It is also the perfect place to go to for anyone looking to momentarily forget about their life hustles and take a well-deserved break from the fast-paced normal daily life.

One of the most remarkable beach is the Miami Beach. Once during the spring break of March, I visited the Miami Beach, and I was blown away by the salty and floating breeze of its coast. At the beach, one cannot help but admire the calm blue sky or marvel at the beauty of creation in its entirety. The beach is filled with all kinds of people, both the young and the old clad in bath suits of different colors. The young children are covered in towels, and most of the times their parents allow them to create sandcastles or frolic in the ocean. Others choose to organize mini races on the beach sand and enjoy themselves casually competing with each other.

People from different backgrounds and races always fill the Miami Beach. There are blacks, whites, Hispanics, and Indians among others. In most cases, such people visit the beach in pairs as husband and wife or with their children. The couples stroll the beach holding hands while others lie on the sand to enjoy the sun. In my visit, I attended alone to have an experience of this famous beach. The experience was out of this world as I laid down to take in the smell of the salty water feeling like a sea animal without caring about anything with the only consolation being the resonance of the rolling waves, the distance voices, and laughs and the laughter of people. The sun also did its part as it generously sent its rays to massage my intentionally exposed bare chest.

During the mid-afternoon, the rays of the sun get warmer. At this time, people decide to take a dive in the ocean or stay ashore to experience the bitterness of the sticky evening air. Without a doubt, I firmly believe that mid-afternoon is the best time to experience the relaxing, soothing, and peaceful atmosphere of the beach. The best experience is walking across the beach as the grainy, slick, and brown sugar sand take the shape of the feet while being comforted by the calm sound of the water and the rhythmic movement of the pounding sea water. It is difficult to ignore the fantastic experiences the beach poses.

In the evening, the beach is silent as people rush back home or to their hotels waiting for the next day. A glimpse of the sand across the beach reveals how much activity took place during the day. At dawn, the sound of the waves on the dark golden sands is more pronounced than during the day before people start flocking the beach as the sun emerges rising like a yellow balloon on the distant horizon. The sun actually appears to announce its intent to grace the day with warm rays and play its part in making the day on the beach a memorable one.

My visit to the Miami Beach was exceptional as I came to realize the thrill and excitement that nature holds. The people of different origins and the colorful environment makes the beach the best place to spend a holiday at. The sound of the waves and the warm sun makes the entire experience worthwhile. In the future, I plan on spending my holidays at different beaches across the world.

The Beach (description)

Authors Avatar

Reece Buckle IGCSE Descriptive writing

The atmosphere at the beach is almost intoxicating, in all its tranquility. Glistening sun rays, which reflect off the oceans smooth surface, leave the adjacent sand particles cloaked in a layer of red light, like the sand grains themselves are emitting a luxurious aura.

Whilst gazing across the shoreline, I notice a minute scale battle between two seagulls and a long fat chip. The first seagull that plundered the chip was protectively nibbling at it, when the second one soared towards him like a hurricane of feathers, bombarded the chip with his piercing talons, and then rocketed off.

A couple of children have just started to construct miniature sand castles now. They work together and cooperate as a team, where one gathers water in a bucket from the sea, and the other compresses the sand into a polished blue bucket. Their faces radiate pure innocence and happiness whilst working together, except secretly one child will probably be up to no good; plotting on how he or she can demolish the sand castles progression, without being caught.

The silky, crisp waves engulf but also help sustain many swimmers and dingy boats floating in the ocean. One rubber dingy boat almost capsizes after recoiling off the beach side, however it narrowly survived afloat. Other swimmers and typical families, consisting of parents and the young kids are having a good time, floating around as well, splashing each over, and hurling rubber balls into the air.

This is a preview of the whole essay

Behind me there is an ongoing game of beach-ball being played out. All 4 adults have taken sides, and are battling it out, showering each side with the airborne beach balls. The dedicated beach ball area has a sturdy net, long enough to support numerous games of beach ball/volley ball.

As the day progresses the amount of people around me has dramatically decreased from a being packed, to a scarce amount. However the last remaining few are just motionlessly sunbathing, flying kites or playing beach ball. And the atmosphere has changed to soothing and restful now.

After realizing time has moved on now, I start to pack up my towel and lunch box, ready to journey home. Strolling across the shoreline, I start to carefully rummage across the surface of the previously red burned sand, scanning for shells and gems that may be lurking there. Hiking down the shoreline coast, I can still see the silky waves of the ocean, crumble on the bordering horizon. People have started to pack up their towels, tents and other possessions they own, ready to journey home themselves now.

On my travels I am annoyingly disrupted from my peaceful rest, by a hot dog man making a commotion over advertising his hot dogs. The hot dog man’s persuading voice, shouts reasonable offers such as “hot dogs! Hot dogs! Get your hot dogs!” and “Buy 3 hotdogs for the price of 2!” that eventually, makes me change my course of direction towards him. The sweet hot dog aroma ignites my nose senses, and allures me in as I get closer, like a moth and its beacon of light.

I delve my hands into my pockets and count any remaining coins and change that may be lurking there. The lingering hotdog scent causes my stomach to rumble involuntarily

Waiting in the queue feels almost an eternity, until I finally reach first place. My stomach feels like a vast, empty cavern that could easily collapse. “Excuse me Sir, what would you like to order?” the hot dog man briefly asks me.

I mumble back “An extra-large jumbo frankfurter please,” whilst practically drooling. I am hypnotized by his rotating spatula, flipping over the other hotdogs & burgers. The hotdog crumbles deliciously with every bite, giving me bursts of energy that courses through my blood stream, to aid me on my journey back up the pebble-stone fortress leading towards the car park.

The shimmering ocean retreats into the distance, and begins revealing the silk like stones and debris that were previously undiscovered and hidden away there.

250 Words Essay on A Picnic at the Beach

Introduction.

A picnic at the beach is a quintessential summer activity. It’s an opportunity to escape the monotony of daily life, soak up the sun, and enjoy the company of friends and family. The beach offers a unique backdrop with its vast expanse of sand, the rhythmic lull of the waves, and the salty sea breeze.

The Preparation

The anticipation of a beach picnic begins with the preparation. This includes selecting a picturesque beach, packing a basket with an assortment of sandwiches, fruits, and beverages, and not forgetting essentials like sunscreen, towels, and beach games. The preparation phase is a communal effort, fostering camaraderie and building excitement.

The journey to the beach is an adventure in itself. Whether it’s a short drive or a long road trip, the anticipation of the forthcoming beach day heightens the mood. The sight of the azure ocean, the feel of the coarse sand beneath your feet, and the sound of crashing waves all contribute to the thrill of the journey.

The Experience

Upon arrival, the beach transforms into a playground. Some might choose to bask in the sun, while others might engage in a game of beach volleyball or take a dip in the water. The beach picnic is a sensory experience, with the taste of salt on your lips, the smell of the ocean, and the sight of the sun setting on the horizon.

A picnic at the beach is more than just a day out; it’s an experience that creates lasting memories. The joy of a beach picnic lies not just in the activities, but also in the shared experiences, the laughter, and the bonding that it fosters. It’s a perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, and companionship.

500 Words Essay on A Picnic at the Beach

The allure of the beach.

The beach, with its vast expanse of sand, the rhythmic lullaby of the waves, and the occasional cry of seagulls, is a place where one can escape the monotony of daily life. A picnic at the beach is not just a day out, but an experience that can rejuvenate the mind, body, and soul. It provides an opportunity to connect with nature, engage in fun-filled activities, and create lasting memories.

Planning the Perfect Beach Picnic

A beach picnic requires careful planning to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience. The first step is to choose a suitable location. A beach that is not overcrowded would be ideal, providing enough space to relax and engage in activities. The next step is to prepare a checklist of essentials. This includes food, beverages, beach towels, sunscreen, and a first-aid kit.

Additionally, it is important to check the weather forecast. A sunny day is perfect for a beach picnic, but it is equally important to be prepared for unexpected weather changes.

Food for Thought and Stomach

The food for a beach picnic should be easy to carry and consume. Sandwiches, fruits, cold pasta, and beverages make for a good picnic spread. It is essential to pack them in a way that they remain fresh and safe to consume.

However, a picnic at the beach is not just about physical nourishment. It is also about nourishing the mind. The tranquil environment provides an excellent opportunity for introspection and contemplation. It allows us to disconnect from our digital lives and reconnect with our inner selves and nature.

Activities and Entertainment

A beach picnic is incomplete without activities. From building sandcastles and playing beach volleyball to swimming in the sea and sunbathing, the options are endless. These activities not only add fun to the picnic but also provide an opportunity for physical exercise.

For those who prefer a more relaxed experience, reading a book, listening to music or simply watching the waves can be equally enjoyable. The beach is a great place to explore creativity as well. Photography, painting, and writing are some activities that can be pursued.

Environmental Responsibility

While a beach picnic is a source of joy and relaxation, it is crucial to remember our responsibility towards the environment. Ensuring that we leave the beach as clean as we found it is a basic yet significant step. Using reusable items, avoiding plastic, and disposing of waste properly are some ways to minimize our environmental impact.

A picnic at the beach is a delightful experience that offers a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It is a chance to immerse ourselves in the beauty of nature, enjoy simple pleasures, and create unforgettable memories. However, while we enjoy the beach, it is important to respect and protect it, ensuring that future generations can also experience its magic.

That’s it! I hope the essay helped you.

an essay describing the beach

You might see 'gorilla hail' reported in severe storms this spring. Here's what it means

People reported seeing gorilla hail the size of golf balls in march..

Some of the severe storms that have hit the Midwest this spring have brought " gorilla hail " back into conversations about the weather.

Just this week, when thunderstorms ripped through Iowa on Tuesday, spawning a tornado, the system produced large chunks of hail, also known as gorilla hail, which were among the main threats to the state, according to the Des Moines Register , part of the USA TODAY Network.

But once the severe weather threat passes, some people are left wondering about this weather phenomenon.

"Every time I see 'gorilla hail,' I just imagine a gorilla pelting ice balls at people's cars and houses," tweeted one user on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Storm chasers, including Accuweather's Reed Timmer on X, warned that "gorilla hail" and tornadoes posed a severe weather threat Tuesday.

As funny as the term sounds, this kind of hail is no joke. Iowa faced numerous severe storms, large hail, damaging winds and a tornado.

Updates: Tornado watch issued for western, central Iowa through Tuesday night

What is 'gorilla hail'?

"Gorilla hail" is a colloquialism to describe large hail, said Brad Small, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service.

Gorilla-size hail is considered 2 inches in diameter or greater. Severe thunderstorms can produce hail at least the size of a quarter (roughly an inch) or as large as a tennis ball and are accompanied by 58 mph winds or more, according to NWS .

"It's certainly not a technical term we use here," Small said of the phrase.

More: Gov. Reynolds issues disaster proclamation for eight Iowa counties. Here’s what to know

It's not the first report of gorilla hail this year.

In early April, the phenomenon was reported in parts of Oklahoma and Kansas when storms ripped through the area.

Residents said the chunks of ice that pelted the states were nearly the size of softballs. and ranged from 3 to 4 inches.

Alex Sosnowski, a senior meteorologist at AccuWeather, said gorilla hail was given its name because of the potential it has to become so big.

Tips for staying safe during hail and severe weather.

Anyone who finds themselves facing any type of hail storm should stay up to date and monitor the weather.

According to the National Weather Service, folks should do the following to keep themselves and their property safe:

  • Move vehicles into garages or under carports to prevent damage at a time when safety permits.
  • Avoid windows and remain on the lowest floor level of the building

Even if the hail is smaller than gorilla hail, it can still shatter windows and send glass and debris into your home. To avoid that, Robert Ndegwa, a State Farm insurance agent, recommends closing windows, blinds and curtains during hail storms to help reduce flying debris.

Trump Again Vows Mass Deportations and Won’t Rule Out Political Violence

In an interview with Time magazine, the former president said he planned to use the military to deport migrants and would not dismiss the possibility of political violence after this year’s election.

Former President Donald J. Trump in a crowd.

By Michael Gold

  • April 30, 2024

Former President Donald J. Trump told Time magazine in an interview published Tuesday morning that if elected in November, he would deploy the U.S. military to detain and deport migrants and permit states to decide whether to prosecute those who violate abortion bans, while hedging on the possibility of political violence after the 2024 election.

Mr. Trump has rarely given lengthy interviews with mainstream news outlets, particularly since leaving the White House. His conversations with Time — a sit-down at the former president’s residence in Palm Beach, Fla., and a follow-up phone call — offered a revealing glimpse of how he would wield presidential power, challenge democratic norms and reshape the country if he won back the White House in November.

At one point, Mr. Trump told Time that he would be willing to deploy the military as part of an extreme deportation operation he has said he plans to conduct if elected, and that he would be willing to bypass a law that prohibits using U.S. troops against civilians.

“Well, these aren’t civilians,” Mr. Trump said. “These are people that aren’t legally in our country. This is an invasion of our country.”

Mr. Trump also brushed aside questions about political violence in November by suggesting that his victory was inevitable. But when pressed about what might happen should he again lose the election, he did not dismiss the possibility outright and did not proactively say anything to deter supporters from again resorting to it.

“I think we’re going to win,” he said. “And if we don’t win, you know, it depends. It always depends on the fairness of an election.”

A Biden campaign spokesman, James Singer, argued that Mr. Trump's stated plans were unconstitutional and anti-democratic. “Trump is willing to throw away the very idea of America to put himself in power,” Mr. Singer said in a statement.

Mr. Trump and his allies have already laid the groundwork to advance their ideological agenda, and many of their preparations have been reported by The New York Times and other outlets.

Still the Time interview, which includes transcripts , offered a rare chance to hear Mr. Trump describe his policy views in his own words.

As he entered a Manhattan courthouse after the Time interview published, along with a fact check, Mr. Trump described Time’s cover story as “very nice” and “at least 60 percent correct, which is about all I can ask for.”

Here are five takeaways.

He would use the military to deport migrants.

Mr. Trump reaffirmed his goal to expand his first-term efforts to crack down on immigration with a widespread effort to detain and deport migrants who cross the border illegally.

But he told Time that he would be willing to involve both the National Guard and U.S. troops to do it, both at the border and within the country, though he presented the use of U.S. soldiers as a last resort.

“I think the National Guard would be able to do that. If they weren’t able to, then I’d use the military,” he said, after describing the surge of migrants across the border as an “invasion,” language he uses frequently during campaign stops and interviews.

Mr. Trump said he had not ruled out building new camps to hold undocumented migrants, a plan reported by The Times last year. And he told Time that his efforts would include giving the police immunity from prosecution, something he has mentioned recently on the campaign trail, too.

“We have to give the police back the power and respect that they deserve,” said Mr. Trump, who faces dozens of felony charges in four criminal cases. “Now, there will be some mistakes, and there are certain bad people and that’s a terrible thing.”

He again avoided taking firm positions on abortion-related issues.

Though Mr. Trump stated a number of plans for a second term, he declined to offer specific views on abortion, a searing and politically sensitive issue that has been central to elections since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022.

Mr. Trump cleared the way for the court’s decision by appointing three conservative justices, and he has celebrated his role in the ruling.

In the Time interview, Mr. Trump reaffirmed his statement made earlier this month that abortion should be left up to the states. But he did not commit to vetoing bills with federal restrictions on abortion if they passed Congress, a goal of some of his Republican allies.

“I don’t have to do anything about vetoes, because we now have it back in the states,” he said.

Mr. Trump did not answer a question about how he would vote on a Florida referendum that would overturn a six-week abortion ban that he has previously criticized .

And Mr. Trump did not express objections to the idea of states’ monitoring pregnancies or prosecuting women who violated abortion bans. “It’s irrelevant whether I’m comfortable or not,” he said. “It’s totally irrelevant, because the states are going to make those decisions.”

Mr. Trump would also not take a position on whether women should have access to mifepristone , a widely used abortion medication at the center of a Supreme Court case .

He similarly deferred on taking a position on whether his administration would enforce the Comstock Act , a long-dormant law that would prohibit sending abortion pills through the mail.

In both cases, Mr. Trump promised statements in the coming weeks.

He is weighing widespread pardons over Jan. 6.

Mr. Trump said he would “absolutely” consider pardoning every person who had been convicted on, or pleaded guilty to, charges related to the storming of the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

He noted that “if somebody was evil and bad, I would look at that differently,” but he did not say where he would draw the line.

And even as Mr. Trump said he did not anticipate political violence this year, he predicated that answer on his winning in November. On the campaign trail, Mr. Trump has consistently made false and debunked claims that the 2020 election was stolen from him by Democrats, and he has primed his supporters to believe that the only fair election is one that he wins — something he repeated in the interview.

“I don’t believe they’ll be able to do the things that they did the last time,” Mr. Trump said of Democrats to Time. “I don’t think they’ll be able to get away with it.”

He criticized Netanyahu but would help Israel fight Iran.

Even as he promoted himself as the most pro-Israel president in history, Mr. Trump once more criticized the nation’s “public relations” failures over seven months of war in Gaza.

“I think that Israel has done one thing very badly: public relations,” he said, pointing to the country’s decision to share photos and videos of its military campaign.

And he said that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, once a strong ally, deserved some blame for the attacks by Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023, that incited the recent conflict.

“Bibi Netanyahu rightfully has been criticized for what took place on Oct. 7,” Mr. Trump told Time.

In the wake of Iran’s launching a direct attack on Israel, Mr. Trump also said that the United States should get involved if war broke out between Israel and Iran. “If they attack Israel, yes, we would be there,” he said.

Mr. Trump did not suggest how he might bring the continuing conflict in Gaza to a close, but he said he believed the two-state solution — in which Israelis and Palestinians exist side by side in separate nations — was “going to be very, very tough.”

He would not rule out using the Justice Department as a political tool.

After previously pledging to appoint a special prosecutor to “go after” President Biden and his family, Mr. Trump told Time he “wouldn’t want to hurt Biden.”

Yet he also suggested that any action might be conditioned on an upcoming Supreme Court ruling on whether presidents have any immunity from criminal prosecution.

“If they said that a president doesn’t get immunity, then Biden, I am sure, will be prosecuted for all of his crimes,” Mr. Trump said. Mr. Biden has not been charged with any crimes, and an impeachment inquiry by House Republicans has not produced any solid evidence of wrongdoing.

“So when you asked me that question,” he said later, “it depends on what the Supreme Court does.”

Mr. Trump also said he would be open to firing federal prosecutors who refused his orders to prosecute someone, something that would violate a longstanding norm of Justice Department independence.

“It depends on the situation, honestly,” he said.

In an interview with Time magazine , Donald Trump said that he planned to use the military to deport migrants if he wins in November and would not dismiss the possibility of political violence after the election.

President Biden quickly moved to capitalize politically on Trump’s interview with Time magazine, particularly his comments on abortion .

For Biden, the campus unrest over the Gaza war recalls the peace protests of his youth. But this time he cannot easily bypass the turmoil .

Awash in Federal Money:  Across Milwaukee, there is evidence of federal money from laws passed under the Biden administration. The president hopes voters will notice .

Disinformation at the Border:  A flier urging migrants to vote for Biden rocketed around right-wing social media. But was it authentic ?

A Match Made in MAGA:  Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio and Donald Trump Jr. have bonded politically and personally . It’s a relationship that could factor into the former president’s search for a running mate.

National Weather Service provides answers on loud sound and shaking in the Topsail Beach area

TOPSAIL BEACH, N.C. (WECT) - It’s been the talk on social media. Topsail Beach residents took to Facebook to describe a strange rattling or boom in the area around 10:00 p.m. Monday, April 29.

Some said they could feel their houses shake.

“It was just a jolt,” said Richard Vessov, who lives in Surf City.

Gloria Metts felt it, too.

“My daughter ran out of bed and was like ‘What is that?’ So my husband ran outside and checked and before he could even come back in every neighbor was texting my phone, ‘Did you feel that? What was that?’” said Metts.

It’s the same question so many others from Surf City to Hampstead are asking.

The National Weather Service said it was probably not an earthquake, but it’s possible. The meteorologist-in-charge, Steve Pfaff, says it’s hard to say what it is.

Pfaff says there was no seismic activity detected, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t an earthquake.

He said it could have been a very weak one that was not detectable seismically. However, Pfaff says there are a lot of other explanations for what happened Monday night.

He says a lot of times, events like that can be caused by naval gunfire, artillery or aircraft.

They’re able to detect the activity through something called “chaff.” It’s like a flare used in the military.

“So a lot of times when we have these events reported to us, we look and we see on radar that the chaff is there, so we know that there’s military aircraft operating. So last night, we didn’t see any aircraft regarding the chaff part of it, but it doesn’t mean there weren’t any military aircraft that were breaking the sound barrier, which would have caused that,” said Pfaff.

He says it could have also been anything from a collapse of underwater caves to submarine landslides.

“This is one where there isn’t anything that points us in one direction or another as to what the cause was. So maybe this truly was one of the original, like Seneca Guns that we hear from from time to time. Some we can explain, and some we need to dig a little further for information,” said Pfaff.

One thing people can explain is that it was a feeling unlike any other.

“I’ve never felt something that strong before,” said Metts.

“I was looking on Facebook and people were feeling it, you know, quite a ways away. So you know, to me that’s more of a seismic event,” said Vessov.
