IELTS Model Essay: Increased Life Expectancy

In this post, I’m going to write an IELTS Writing Task 2 model essay in response to this question about increased life expectancy from Test 2 of  The Official Cambridge Guide To IELTS :

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Write about the following topic:

One of the consequences of improved medical care is that people are living longer and life expectancy is increasing.

Do you think the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own  knowledge or experience.

Write at least 250 words.

Let’s go through my 4 Step Approach to essay planning:

  • Analyse The Question
  • Decide My Position
  • Generate My Ideas
  • Develop My Ideas

I’ll write these 4 steps out in full, so you can see my thinking. Obviously, you won’t have time to write all this down when you plan your essay, but you will have time to think the 4 steps through in your head. In fact, Steps 2 to 4 might happen together, if you think deeply enough about your views.

IELTS Model Essay Living Longer

Step 1: Analyse The Question

The first thing to do is analyse the question.

TWO things are mentioned here: (1) “people are living longer” and (2) “life expectancy is increasing”. However, these are not two separate issues; I think life expectancy is mentioned to emphasise the fact that this will continue into the future, so it’s a long-term issue.

Now, I don’t want to die, so living longer only has advantages to me, but the question isn’t about ME, it’s about people in general; society.

So let’s  reword the question , so it’s clearer: do the advantages of living longer outweigh the disadvantages for society?

Step 2: Decide My Position (What Do I Think?)

So, what do I REALLY think about this issue? In other words, what’s my position on this issue?

Clearly – if you REALLY think about this issue – there are BOTH advantages AND disadvantages to living longer for society, so you should discuss both advantages and disadvantages of you want to write a well-developed response (and have a chance of getting a Band 8 for TR).

On the whole, I think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages , because we can do more with our lives, BUT only if living longer means being healthier for longer, and being able to pay for retirement.

Step 3: Generate My Ideas (Why Do I Think This?)

Now let’s expand my position – why do I take this position? This is really just an expansion of the position I outlined above, into 4 main ideas .

Advantages:

  • A longer retirement means more opportunities for recreational pursuits – (assuming they have the health and money to pay for it.)
  • Grandparents can help to look after and offer advice to their grandchildren, making life easier for parents.

Disadvantages:

  • Older people are more likely to suffer from health problems, especially chronic health problems such as diabetes and back pain.
  • If older people don’t work, they need a larger pension to pay for their longer retirement.

Step 4: Develop My Ideas

Next, I’m going to develop my ideas using a logical structure. This will give me a clear essay plan.

Introduction :

  • people are living longer, and can expect to live longer, because of improved health care. Seems like a good thing, but are there any disadvantages of this trend?

Body Paragraph 1: Advantages

  • Main Idea 1:  more time to be active and useful
  • Explanation 1 : opportunities for activities, hobbies
  • Explanation 2 : more people to look after our younger generation

Body Paragraph 2: Disadvantages

  • Main Idea: Both these advantages depend on good health and money.
  • Explanation 1 : older people more likely to have poor health; health care costs
  • Example : chronic health problems (diabetes, muscle pain)
  • Explanation 2 : pension funds may be limited. Who will pay?
  • advantages greater, but they depend on health and wealth.

So, all I need to do now is expand these notes into full sentences and link them together!

So here’s my essay:

My Model Essay

Over the last half century, life expectancy across the world has been rising as a result of better quality healthcare. This means that today we have an ageing population. On the face of it, living longer seems to be a good thing – after all, nobody really want to die! – but a decent old age depends on health and wealth.

Many people in their seventies and eighties, and even older, are able to enjoy a long and fulfilling retirement. They can travel to new destinations and get involved in a wide range of hobbies and activities that were impossible while working and bringing up a family. Those with grandchildren may also be able to help young, busy parents with such tasks as collecting children from school; moreover, they could share their life experiences with the younger generation.

But while there are tremendous benefits to increased life expectancy, they depend, to an extent, on being healthy and having money. Older people are more likely to suffer from medical problems, especially chronic illnesses like diabetes and muscle pain, which can seriously restrict the kinds of activities they do. This also means increased health care costs, for both individuals and society. In addition, if older people aren’t working, they will have to rely on savings and pensions to pay for their lifestyle, but many older people simply won’t have been able to save enough for a long old age.

Overall then, I feel that the benefits of living older are clear, but these must be balanced against the implications for health and money. If living longer simply means chronic health complaints and grinding poverty for a longer time, it is questionable as to whether it is an advantage at all.

I hope my model essay helps to show you how to write at a Band 8 or Band 9 level. If you think others will find this essay useful, please share it.

Problem-solution essays Situation-problem-solution-evaluation

Problem-solution essays are a common essay type, especially for short essays such as subject exams or IELTS . The page gives information on what they are , how to structure this type of essay, and gives an example problem-solution essay on the topic of obesity and fitness levels.

What are problem-solution essays?

Problem-solution

Problem-solution essays consider the problems of a particular situation, and give solutions to those problems. They are in some ways similar to cause and effect essays , especially in terms of structure (see below). Problem-solution essays are actually a sub-type of another type of essay, which has the following four components:

The 'situation' may be included in the essay prompt, in which case it will not be needed in the main body. If it is needed, it can often be included in the introduction, especially for short essays, as with the example essay below . The 'evaluation' may be included as part of the conclusion (also as in the example below), or omitted altogether, especially for short essays. For these reasons, problem-solution essays are more common than situation-problem-solution-evaluation essays (or SPSE essays).

There are two main ways to structure a problem-solution essay. These are similar to the ways to structure cause and effect essays , namely using a block or a chain structure. For the block structure, all of the problems are listed first, and all of the solutions are listed afterwards. For the chain structure, each problem is followed immediately by the solution to that problem. Both types of structure have their merits. The former is generally clearer, especially for shorter essays, while the latter ensures that any solutions you present relate directly to the problems you have given.

The two types of structure, block and chain , are shown in the diagram below. This is for a short essay, which includes the 'situation' in the introduction and 'evaluation' in the conclusion. A longer essay, for example one of around 1,000 words, with citations , would probably have these two sections as separate paragraphs in the main body.

Example essay

Below is a problem-solution essay on the topic of obesity and poor fitness . It uses the block structure . Click on the different areas (in the shaded boxes) to highlight the different structural aspects in this essay, i.e. Situation, Problem, Solution, Evaluation. This will highlight not simply the paragraphs, but also (for problems and solutions) the thesis statement and summary , as these repeat the problems and solutions contained in the main body.

Consumption of processed and convenience foods and our dependence on the car have led to an increase in obesity and reduction in the fitness level of the adult population. In some countries, especially industrialized ones, the number of obese people can amount to one third of the population. This is significant as obesity and poor fitness lead to a decrease in life expectancy , and it is therefore important for individuals and governments to work together to tackle this issue and improve their citizens' diet and fitness. Obesity and poor fitness decrease life expectancy. Overweight people are more likely to have serious illnesses such as diabetes and heart disease, which can result in premature death. It is well known that regular exercise can reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke, which means that those with poor fitness levels are at an increased risk of suffering from those problems. Changes by individuals to their diet and their physical activity can increase life expectancy. There is a reliance today on the consumption of processed foods, which have a high fat and sugar content. By preparing their own foods, and consuming more fruit and vegetables, people could ensure that their diets are healthier and more balanced, which could lead to a reduction in obesity levels. In order to improve fitness levels, people could choose to walk or cycle to work or to the shops rather than taking the car. They could also choose to walk up stairs instead of taking the lift. These simple changes could lead to a significant improvement in fitness levels. Governments could also implement initiatives to improve their citizens' eating and exercise habits. This could be done through education, for example by adding classes to the curriculum about healthy diet and lifestyles. Governments could also do more to encourage their citizens to walk or cycle instead of taking the car, for instance by building more cycle lanes or increasing vehicle taxes. While some might argue that increased taxes are a negative way to solve the problem, it is no different from the high taxes imposed on cigarettes to reduce cigarette consumption. In short, obesity and poor fitness are a significant problem in modern life, leading to lower life expectancy . Individuals and governments can work together to tackle this problem and so improve diet and fitness . Of the solutions suggested, those made by individuals themselves are likely to have more impact, though it is clear that a concerted effort with the government is essential for success. With obesity levels in industrialized and industrializing countries continuing to rise, it is essential that we take action now to deal with this problem.

Effective IELTS Essay Connectors for Writing Task 2 & Task 1

The Essay Writing section of the IELTS Writing Module can be a difficult task for many IELTS Aspirants. Thus, it is vital that you polish your essay writing skills before attempting the IELTS.

Academic IELTS Writing Task 2

People are living longer. Some people think that it causes big problems. Others, however, think the ageing population has many advantages for business, government and for society in general. Discuss both views & give your own opinion

Discussion essay

Introduction

Paraphrase the topic of the discussion.

Clearly mention what could be expected from the essay- In my opinion, I believe that this trend brings both advantages and disadvantages to society as a whole. However, I find myself more inclined towards the positive aspects of growing life expectancies. This essay shall deal with the same.

Paragraph 1- The ageing population can impose heavy pressure on the economy and the healthcare system as the more people retire, the heavier the pension burden the state has to carry. Hospitals will be flooded with frail and infirm elderly citizens searching for medical treatments while the labour force also suffers due to the shortage of productive workers who often make the biggest contribution to society.

The ageing population can impose heavy pressure on the economy and the healthcare system as the more people retire, the heavier the pension burden the state has to carry.

Paragraph 2- The benefits of this development should not be underestimated. First, they are able to contribute to some sectors such as teaching, management, scientific research and politics thanks to their extensive experience. We often see top executives in their 50s doing consultation sessions and help companies function more efficiently, or old teachers coaching students for contests because of their vast knowledge and hands-on experience.

As most people in modern times are busy with tasks at the workplace, elderly members like grandparents can do the babysitting, relieving parents’ worries of their children lacking in moral support or leisure activities.

Conclude the discussion by stressing over your side of the argument- In conclusion, for the reasons I have mentioned above, it seems to me that an ageing population has substantial benefits to the society that could work in its favour.

Sample Essay

There is little room for doubt that there has been staggering growth in the proportion of elderly people in many countries. In my opinion, I believe that this trend brings both advantages and disadvantages to society as a whole. However, I find myself more inclined towards the positive aspects of growing life expectancies. This essay shall deal with the same.

[do_widget id=custom_html-24]

On the one hand, it is inevitable that the remarkable increase in life expectancy has some negative consequences for some reasons. Firstly, the ageing population can impose heavy pressure on the economy and the healthcare system as the more people retire, the heavier the pension burden the state has to carry. Hospitals will be flooded with frail and infirm elderly citizens searching for medical treatments while the labour force also suffers due to the shortage of productive workers who often make the biggest contribution to society. Secondly, the ageing population can impose heavy pressure on the economy and the healthcare system as the more people retire, the heavier the pension burden the state has to carry.

On the positive side, the benefits of this development should not be underestimated. Second, as most people in modern times are busy with tasks at the workplace, elderly members like grandparents can do the babysitting, relieving parents’ worries of their children lacking in moral support or leisure activities.

In conclusion, for the reasons I have mentioned above, it seems to me that an ageing population has substantial benefits to society that could work in its favour.

Band 9 Sample Essay

The medical and healthcare front has taken substantial strides in recent years owing to which the average life span has proliferated and increased. As a result, the mortality rate has been reduced and people are living for a longer duration. However, some people consider it to be having a negative impact on the population dynamics while others contend that it has a rather positive impact on the growth of society from all aspects. Moving ahead, we shall be discussing both the viewpoints and why the ageing population is beneficial to society.

People who consider the longer durability of humans as a menace to society put forth that increased life expectancies may be burdensome to the world as it increases and aggravates the competition for scarce and scanty resources to survive.  It could exacerbate the relationship between the generations and could disgruntle the paradoxical ideologies that are understandably contrary to each other owing to the age margin. At times, this could sever the ties of households as older people are generally conservative and orthodox with respect to the new generations and hence their lifestyle incongruency often leads to pandemonium between them. Moreover, the middle age people are often seen getting drudged and hackneyed due to working more in order to provide for their children as well as the elderly of their families who often fall sick and are generally in constant need of medical aid.

In contrast, the longer life and sustenance of human beings has a positive side and if is harnessed vigilantly and logically, it could rather prove to be an oblation for the human diaspora. The best resource out of all i.e., the human resource is the most prime tool for the society that could sculpt its shape to the welfare of itself. Since, the more, the better, therefore, increasing lifelines could be utilized and availed to pave a way for the betterment of the world. On the work front, the experienced and seasoned professionals are often seen to be sitting at the consulting role as their dexterity and knack in their respective professions could be seen promulgating the businesses higher and faster. For instance, during the Covid-19 pandemic when a lot of businesses started to ramshackle, the seasoned employees were being hired intensively to have their drowning boats harboured. Similarly, for teaching, finance, people’s management, medical lines and research fields keep on turning to the counselling and consulting sessions of the experienced individuals in the related field of work as their experience is worth learning from.

In conclusion, it could be said that no matter how old one becomes, every other aspect and reason obliterates when experience comes and balances the equation. Therefore, burgeoning lifespan is indeed a positive development provided it is dealt with prudentially.

life expectancy problem solution essay

Zhan-han-han

The proportion of elderly population around the world has increased dramatically especially in the era of the capitalist society. The approaches towards solving ageing population issue have been transparent to major discussion in the present society. The public view mentions that ageing population leads to major social problems. Conversely, the increase in life expectancy of people is associated with a plethora of benefits are imposed for private and public sector as well as promoting an improvement in socioeconomic condition. I am skewed to support the negative vantages regarding longer life expectancy for further justifications.

Concerning growing proportion of elder community, countries are facing inherent large deficits in the national current account. This is due to old people are generally forced to retirement once their age is exceeding 65 years old. In some well-off countries such as Japan and Singapore, the percentage of people who is above 65 years old is on the uphill trend since the beginning of the 21st century. Many elder people are forced to work as part-timers despite they are already in the retirement age. Moreover, the increase in the share of elder population of the country is inversely proportional to the birth rate of people. This phenomenon signifies that most families afford to have one or two children as the awareness of birth control is high among these residents from high-income level countries. In account of less young talent available in the next future, the less retirement fund and worker’s pay contribution tax are deposited into fiscal account. It yields a potential mammoth reduction of government’s budget to fund nation’s development.

Likewise, the nation’s productivity declines as well if the proportion of the elder population continue to soar. The young talents are viewed as the bedrock of the GDP contributors as they have the maximum capacity for the provision of economic prosperity. Putting into other perspectives, a country requires young workforce to engage in the innovation to enhance the production efficiency. For instance, the people under 30-year-old possess the highest digital quotient as they are inclined to adapt well to the digital world and leverage digital tools to drive groundbreaking breakthrough in the science and technology field. By contrast, the group of elderly people only stall the productivity of a country as they are inept of mastering technology know-how. As consequence, a country will experience stunt in economic growth as Malaysia is a living example country which is squandered in the middle-income trap due to lack of innovation and tech talents.

From the sanguine side, while the population is ageing as a whole, actually, it presents an opportunity for the blossoming of healthcare system and tourism sector. According to reliable sources, elderly people tend to own stable financial capability as they can live up to their personal opulence if they want. Hence, the tourism sector comes into place to entice elderly people to join organised tours as they can alleviate boredom upon retirement. Specifically, healthcare tourism should be promoted extensively as older people are more preferred to emphasise their health. Also, majority of elder ladies enjoy beauty spa treatment to look youthful and energetic. In accordance with the intrinsic needs, beauty therapy is introduced to resolve the pain points among these ladies. Consequently, the improvement in healthcare system and tourism will be the new trend in prospering macroeconomic condition.

To sum up, there are pros and cons regarding the aspects of growing elderly population. However, I believe that the advantages will outweigh disadvantages as the growing ageing population will be the latest global trend. The onuses are placed heavily on the government to design an effective policy to accommodate the needs of ageing population.

Global Population Aging: Facts, Challenges, Solutions & Perspectives

life expectancy problem solution essay

The rapid aging of populations around the world presents an unprecedented set of challenges: shifting disease burden, increased expenditure on health and long-term care, labor-force shortages, dissaving, and potential problems with old-age income security. We view longer life spans, particularly longer healthy life spans, as an enormous gain for human welfare. The challenges come from the fact that our current institutional and social arrangements are unsuited for aging populations and shifting demographics; our proposed solution is therefore to change our institutions and social arrangements. The first section of this essay provides a statistical overview of global population aging and its contributing factors. The second section outlines some of the major challenges associated with widespread population aging. Finally, the third section of the essay describes various responses to these challenges, both current and prospective, facing individuals, businesses, institutions, and governments.

ALYSSA LUBET is a Research Assistant in the Department of Global Health and Population at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Her research interests include economics, women's health and reproductive health, and population studies.

We are in the midst of an unprecedented transition in global demography. The world’s population is aging rapidly, and older adults compose a larger proportion of the world’s population than ever before–a share that will only increase over the next century. By 2050, the percentage of the United States’ population that is aged sixty years and older will grow from the current figure of about 20 percent to 27 percent. The global number of centenarians worldwide–those aged one hundred years and older–is expected to more than double by 2030, with projections of nearly 3.4 million by 2050. 1  Three major factors are driving this transition: decreasing fertility, increasing longevity, and the aging of large population cohorts.

Falling fertility rates are the main determinant of population aging. Low fertility rates lead to smaller youth cohorts, which create an imbalance in the age structure: older age groups become larger than their younger counterparts. Thanks to accessible and effective birth control, increased child survival, and cultural changes, birth rates have dropped dramatically in the past century. In 1950, the global total fertility rate (TFR), or the average number of children per woman, was about 5; by 2010, that number had dropped by 50 percent. By 2050, the TFR will have dropped even further to about 2.25 children per woman. In many countries, fertility rates are now well below the long-term replacement rate of just over two children per woman.

Changes in fertility rate are accompanied by increased longevity, another driver of population aging. Averaging for sex and location, a child born in 1950 had a life expectancy of only forty-seven years, while an adult who had survived to the age of sixty could expect to live another fourteen years. In contrast, by 2010, life expectancy at birth had increased to seventy years, and continued life expectancy for those aged sixty increased to twenty years. In a number of populations, recent increases in longevity have been attributed to falling rates of tobacco consumption, as well as improvements in medical technologies. 2 By 2050, life expectancy at birth is expected to have risen to nearly seventy-seven years, while life expectancy at age sixty will increase to twenty-two-and-a-half years.

Meanwhile, large population cohorts, such as the United States’ postwar baby boom generation, are moving through middle age and older adulthood. This movement can be seen in Figure 1, which depicts the population of more-developed countries (MDCs) broken down by sex and age group. Males are on the left side of the pyramid and females are on the right. The shifting shape of the population pyramid between the years 2010 and 2050 illustrates the baby boom cohort’s movement from middle into older ages.

These global phenomena–decreasing fertility, increasing longevity, and the aging of large birth cohorts–combine to drive up the percentage of older adults as a share of the global population. In 1950, only 8 percent of the world’s population was sixty years or older; this number increased to 11 percent by 2010. Over the next several decades, this proportion is expected to rise dramatically, reaching a projected 21.2 percent by 2050. The change is even more dramatic for the share of the world’s population aged eighty years or older. This proportion climbed from just 0.6 percent in 1950 to 1.6 percent in 2010, and is projected to make up 4.1 percent of the global population by 2050.

While the population of virtually every country is aging rapidly, there remains considerable variation at both regional and country levels, with strong correlations to differing income levels. MDCs trend toward low fertility and high longevity, and less-developed countries (LDCs) trend toward the opposite. At the low end of the fertility range are the MDCs found in Eu - rope and East Asia, with Bosnia, Herzegovina, and Singapore tied for the lowest TFR of 1.28 children per woman. Meanwhile, Sub-Saharan Africa has a regional TFR of just over 5, while also hosting the highest country-level fertility rates: Somalia (6.61), Mali (6.86), and Niger (7.58). As for longevity, Japan is in the lead with a current life expectancy at birth of eighty-three-and-a-half years, in stark contrast to Sierra Leone, where life expectancy at birth is slightly over forty-five years.

Tables 1 and 2 depict the percent of the elderly population in the world’s most and least population-aged countries, now (2010) and projected in the future (2050). The 2050 figures are based on a medium fertility projection, which assumes that fertility in all major areas will stabilize at replacement level (at slightly over two children per woman). This comparison reveals stark differences in age profiles between countries. For example, currently 23 percent of Germany’s population is aged sixty-five years and older, while the corresponding figure for Qatar (with its large expatriate worker population) is only 1 percent. These rankings are projected to shift considerably in the next half century, with only Japan holding over in the top five most population-aged nations. . . .

Common Mistakes

Though problem solution essay IELTS is highly asked in the exam, there are some common mistakes that are made by the candidates. Some of these mistakes that a candidate can avoid while attempting these types of questions are:

  • Candidates often do not expand on their ideas and often list down a lot of problems and solutions. The examiners mark the essays on the basis of the explanation of the problems and solutions listed. It is usually advised to pick a problem or two along with their solutions and then explain them with relevant examples.
  • Another common mistake by the candidates is writing indirectly about solutions that are not directly related to the questions. You should opt for concrete ideas rather than writing a generalized answer. Identify the keywords and the micro-keywords from the question and try to include those in the topic.
  • Many people often list down good problems but fail to link them with the solutions. Each problem should have a directly linked solution that actually solves the problem.
  • Learn to identify the problem and solution and causes and solution questions as both of them might look similar but have a certain difference in how they are to be structured.
  • Avoid writing in absolute terms by using qualifiers which ensure that your sentences look like claims rather than proven facts.

As social media continue to develop, more and more youngsters have unsupervised access to all the contents available over the internet in order to meet and chat with friends and even strangers, which can lead to some potentially dangerous situations. What solutions can you suggest to deal with this problem?

IELTS Problem Solution Essay

In the modern era, a large number of young people use the internet to meet and talk with friends via social media. Due to social media and the growth of the internet in the 21st century, many children are facing issues related to their health and the expression of their feelings as a result of the lack of face-to-face interaction. This issue can be solved by opting for some measures.

To begin with, there are many people all over the world who use the internet for their work or education purposes. As a result, everyone uses it until late at night, which can lead to a variety of health issues, such as vision problems from constantly staring at computers or mobile phones and spinal curvatures from excessive sitting in front of computers and laptops. Secondly, due to the nature of online meetings and conversations, there is a lack of face-to-face interaction among people due to which youngsters are unable to express their feelings due to the loss of peer interaction.

Parents can help in resolving these issues by blocking the access of children to websites that are not children-friendly. In addition to that, parents can encourage children to go out and play instead of being on the internet all day in exchange for a surprise or more quality time. Social media companies can also contribute to the solution by restricting the access of children to the platforms on the basis of their age, which can protect them from content that is not suitable for them. For example, the social media platform Facebook recently updated its privacy policies to restrict access to children under the age of ten.

To summarize, young people use the internet to interact with various types of people online without any supervision, which gives them a sense of freedom and confidence in sending unethical messages to others. To stay out of it, parents should monitor their communication and provide suitable guidance and advice to their children.

Block Structure

The block structure, also known as the whole-to-whole or one-side-at-a-time structure, is a straightforward organizational method.

How to Write a Problem-Solution Essay?

A problem solution essay requires taking a systematic approach. Here are the basic steps for writing this type of essay:

Step 1 - Topic Selection

Choosing the right topic is the first crucial step in writing a problem-solution essay. Pick a real-world issue that genuinely interests you.

Consider problems that have personal significance or affect your community. The goal is to engage with a problem that allows for meaningful discussion and exploration.

Step 2 - Understanding the Problem

Before diving into solutions, take the time to fully grasp the intricacies of the problem at hand.

Research the issue thoroughly, aiming to comprehend its various aspects and implications. This step is essential for presenting a well-informed analysis in your essay, ensuring a solid foundation for proposing solutions.

Step 3 - Explore Viable Solutions

Once you've identified and understood the problem, brainstorm possible solutions.

Think about practical, achievable, and effective ways to address the issue. Consider different angles and perspectives, aiming for solutions that are not only feasible but also have the potential to make a positive impact in real-world scenarios.

Step 4 - Create an Outline

Organize your thoughts and structure your essay by creating a clear outline.

Allocate specific sections for introducing the problem, proposing solutions, and crafting a conclusion. A well-organized outline serves as a roadmap, guiding you through each step of the writing process.

Step 5 - Write the Introduction

Begin your essay with a captivating introduction . Start with an attention-grabbing hook that draws your reader in.

Clearly state the problem, emphasizing its significance. Conclude the introduction with a concise thesis statement that outlines the solutions you will explore in the essay.

Step 6 - Craft Body Paragraph

Dedicate individual paragraphs to each problem and its corresponding solution. Elaborate on the details of the problem and present practical solutions.

Support your ideas with examples, evidence, or real-life scenarios. This section forms the core of your essay, providing a comprehensive exploration of the issues at hand.

Step 7 - Address Possible Objections

Acknowledge and address potential counterarguments to your proposed solutions.

Anticipating objections adds depth to your essay, showcasing a thorough consideration of alternative viewpoints. By addressing possible objections, you strengthen the overall persuasiveness of your solutions.

Step 8 - Conclude The Essay

Conclude your essay by summarizing the main points without introducing new information. Reinforce the importance of the proposed solutions and leave a lasting impression.

Writing Task 2: Problem -solution (life expectancy)

In the developed world, average life expectancy is increasing. What problems will this cause for individuals and society? Suggest some measures that could be taken to reduce the impact of ageing populations.

In the developing world, the technologies are also developing be it with respect to the industrial or medical field. Despite the fact that these advancements are bringing in a lot of space for a better standard of living, it is coupled with potential problems.

To name a few of these problems in a broader view, as a country’s economy, on the whole, we can notice the trends of the increased population with people above 60 years of age. This is an issue because when we look at the average age of the active workforce, it would come between 23-40 years of age and in some cases more. With the increase in the life span of people that come out of this estimated range, the instability of the economy increases. The government depends on the people to a huge extent for its growth and since old-aged people (above 60) are in their fragile age, they can not contribute at their best and turn out to be a negative side of the coin instead. Not only are they lacking the ability to contribute but they also require a lot of the investment made on them by the government and even their family. The older one gets the more medical attention they require. Hence, they require a considerable amount of medical and emotional attention. Also increasing the population size, in turn increasing supply demands. The drawbacks form a chain reaction.

When it comes to the solutions to these problems, talking specifically about economical drawbacks the government can introduce policies to increase the retirement age because we can see there are ample amount of jobs that fit old-aged people profile. Government can put forward policies to make life and health insurance a must for old aged people, this way the individuals will have a backup in extreme situations. One other solution could be better and more investment or special policies in the healthcare sector which can help not only the older citizens but also other people.

To conclude, the rising life expectancy can be good news for a lot of people to see from an emotional point of view but it could also lead to a number of issues for the country on the whole. Structured planning and advocating of solutions by an individual and also the government can save the country from a downfall.

With the development of technology and medical science, the life expectancy of people is increasing gradually. Though some people consider it as an improvement in human well-being, it has huge adverse effects to the world. We need to take strict measures like balancing human population. This essay will discuss the problems associated with increase in life expectancy and solutions to reduce the impact of aging population.

Firstly, the rise of life expectancy causes demand in human resources, jobs and also economy. Every people suffers from lack of facilities due to increase in population. For instance, there is more than the required candidates available for a job offer. Likewise, in hospital, school, industries demand increases due to excessive population. By this way people suffering economically and also the growth of nation deteriorates.

Moreover, the unbalanced birth and death rate leads the society to face poverty and slowdown the country growth . As a result of poverty, Crime and illegal activities rising in the nation. The old aged people also suffers due to lack of medical facilities as demand increases.

I suggest that the government should introduce more pension and medical insurance facilities to overcome from such crisis. Strict measures can be implemented to control child birth to reduce the problems of aging in society.

Feedback : Avoid personal pronouns especially in introduction

Every people ( is wrong usage as every is singular in usage)

By this way people (are) suffering

By this way people suffering economically and also the growth of nation deteriorates.(maintain parallelism; either keep both ideas in continuous form or indefinite)

Solutions (as asked in question ) should be in distinct paragraph , not in conclusion.

In the first world countries, the average population of older citizens is higher. The major reason for this is the advancement in the medical field and the increased funding from government in the health sector. Few suggestions that can be implemented by the authorities to tackle this problem.

Firstly, when the life expectancy improves, it has a direct impact on people and its communities. The government will have to build more old age homes to accommodate the rising population of elderly. This will result in more expenditure from authorities which will lead to economic burden on the nation. Secondly, individuals will have to bare the additional expenses from their pocket to take care of the aged and invest time for their treatment. Thirdly, as the population will increase this will decrease the national budget for education, sports and others sectors since authorities have to keep aside a major percent of the budget for health sector.

There are certain steps that the decision makers can take to address this rising issue of the aged. Mainly focusing on reducing the pension of senior citizens will lessen the burden on government. Besides this, they can also think on revising the retirement age and offer some post retirement plans so that they can engage themselves in some income generation work. This will eventually support in nation building and the aged group’s motivation levels will rise.

In conclusion, if the authorities consider these suggestions of introducing post retirement plan and re look at the retirement age, the government should not worry about the economy of the country.

Introduction could be more in adherence with question as it demands problems , not reasons

Nowadays , more people expect to live more than ever before . In many countries around the globe , average life expectancy is rising, due to this development ,personal and social problems increase, but there are some solutions that could help.

As people live longer , the populations grow older and several issues can be expected. One of the first issue is a huge burden on the taxpayers . Governments have to assign more money towards the pension scheme and medical care, in order to ensure the survival of the senior citizens. This could be possible only by deduction additional tax from working community . Nowadays, the proportion of younger , working adults is smaller , and authorities will therefore receive less money in taxes in relation to the size of population .

However, it is important to solve these problems . Firstly , the governments should set a law on retirement age. Secondly ,by encouraging immigration in order to increase the number of working adults who pay taxes .This is because in many countries fertility rate is declining every year , so it is complicated to have young generation who can work efficiently . For instance , this scheme is successfully used in Belgium , where governments invites students to have bachelors or master’s degree and then , continue to stay and work here .

In conclusion , the increase in life expectancy in the world leads to certain issues for the governments and for the young individuals. Nevertheless, by drafting a new law on retirement age and by promoting immigration will help to mitigate the impacts of the aging community.

This could be possible only by deduction (deducting) additional tax from working community . Surprisingly, Nowadays, the proportion of younger , working adults is smaller , and authorities will therefore receive less money in taxes in relation to the size of population

Nowadays, humans’ longevity has dramatically improved than before. There have been two major problems to people and communities, and there are several solutions to mitigate the problems like less tax gen ad increased unemployment. This essay will discuss o the less tax generation owing to more unemployment.

With the increase in life expectancy, there are several problems associated with it. Firstly the huge burden on the taxpayers. In order to take necessary care of the senior citizens of the country, they are forced to pull more funds for medical care and pension schemes. For example, in countries like Canada, the government encourages more and more immigration due to the fact that the majority population are older people, with easier immigration policies more youngsters are attracted to the country which in turn increases the number of taxpayers.

However, it is important to tackle these issues. One of the ways by which it can be solved is by providing opportunities to the older people which requires minimal manpower. For example in countries like Japan half of its working population are above the age of 60 and all are equal earing members of their families. Another solution is setting certain laws on retirement age. Lastly, there should be more opportunities given to the young adults that can assure them benefits if they stay in the country.

In conclusion, the improvement in overall life expectancy in the world leads to certain issues for the governments and for the young individuals. Thereby, ensuring a proper set of retirement policies as well as more benefits for the young individuals can in turn help lighten the burden on the government.

example in B.P 1, seems most suitable for solution paragraph

One of the ways by which it can be solved is by providing opportunities to the older people which requires minimal manpower. ( One of the ways by which it can be solved is by providing opportunities that requires minimal manpower to the older people)

In today’s era, the expected life of an individual is globally increased. Due to Global movement in all the sectors like health, social, economic and education the old, aged people population is increasing. There are a few factors we need to take care of so that we can manage our old-age people population.

Firstly, old age needs to be more independent on their finance so that they can take care of their bills after retirement. For this problem, we need to improve the pension plan with the help of government and private sector policies companies. Example increase the limitation of age on the pension plan. If pension plan starts from the age of 60 till 65, it should be more than 65 onwards. If pension plan policies change with numbers on the age it will also increase the interest rate which also boosts the economic status of the country and tax system. It will help the country in one or another way. It will also help people to think to grow the number of investments instead of spending money on unwanted items.

Another problem, we are facing is a dependency on resources for old-age individuals. As old people cannot take care of themself, they need one or another person to help them with all the work. Sometimes it is a family member or some health department person. They keep occupied one individual. To overcome this issue automation industries, need to come up with a solution that takes of aged individuals more effectively, like Robot.

Robot work on voice control. The person needs to give a command to the robot to perform the action example cook food following a dish for me or help me to sit on the sofa. In this pandemic era from 2019, my aged people suffered from many challenges, and they all were not allowed to leave their places because they were at high risk of virus intake and spread. To support this challenge where no one allowed to come near them if one Robot were there, they wouldn’t face stress, loneliness, or help which they did the most for their daily chore.

Recapitulation to support an increased population with high life expectancy, the Government and private sectors need to work together to improve the supportive structure for aged people. It is fact, we cannot reduce the population however we need to build and plan our future for the better so that we reduce the burden on other people and take of ourselves. Hi Ma’am,

Please review my essay below :

life expectancy problem solution essay

As per the current scenario, life span of people raised gradually because of Technological advancements in Medical field. Due to which there is a direct impact on tax payers income , this essay will discuss both down sides and solutions to reduce burden on younger people.

Increase in life span of people is a good sign. However, people tend to have more health complications when they age resulting for governments to spend higher budget on medical infrastructure this will impact on National economy. For instance, a survey was conducted by Time Now shows government spent more money on health budget in the given pandemic.

Authorities need to take few initiatives to keep life easier for tax payers. Firstly medical policies should be made mandate. Secondly income sources for older communities needs to be created, this will reduce pressure on tax payers and economy can boost. General fitness activities for should be implemented in there daily routine to keep them fit. For example Nature Journal published fit people are less prone to injuries.

To wind up there are few demerits associated with increase in life span, but proper planning from authorities can be a good sign for National economy.

It is true that people in developed countries can expect to live longer than ever recorded previously. Although this tendency is likely going to have some negative implications, societies can take steps to reduce these possible issues

To begin, let us examine the factors that contributed to its growth. The first reason is that there is a deficiency in population planning. To illustrate, the country’s statistical officials failed to estimate the individual’s life expectancy and the number of young and old people by year. The second element is early retirement. In conclusion, this impacts their living expenditures, the tax burden never diminishes as one ages, and the absence of the younger generation results in a direct decrease in the tax receivable amount, making it impossible for the government to sustain pension systems or any further support schemes.

To address this grave situation, the respective state authorities can take a number of measures. To begin, the authority can raise the retirement age to a level that is compatible with an individual’s financial sustainability. To illustrate, if the retirement age is raised to 62, the ordinary middle-class family can afford to split tax-paying income while also planning for their family’s financial survival. Additionally, the state may invite young immigrants from other regions of the world, particularly poor nations. This would achieve a balance between taxpayers and pension recipients, so balancing the socioeconomic system. This will also provide many possibilities for the younger generation to develop their settlements, thereby balancing the populations of the various old age groups.

In conclusion, this issue has undoubtedly become a hot topic in some wealthy countries. As a result, resolving this is not a simple process if we do not take the appropriate approach at the appropriate moment. Governments and individuals should work cooperatively to address this complicated issue in a structured manner.

In this era, science and technology has grown rapidly which impacts profoundly increase the age of human being. This essay will first suggest that biggest cause by this phenomenon is the financial trouble for individual and burden for pension on the government and then argue that awareness about the saving and provide more opportunity to locals and foreigners are the most viable solution.

First of all, it is essential to keep body healthy and active, but due to long age it also creates problems on personal and nation level. Firstly, there is a government rule to get retired on the age of 60, but most of the person face issue due to lack of saving, because of high standard life and cost of living they could not survive with limited money. Secondly, if a plethora of person get retired at the same time, it also creates burden on the government for pay pension to them, because shortage of workforce could not generate the revenue which directly effect on the economy. For instance, nowadays in the Germany 60% population has got retired from their work so as per the rule, authority has to provide social security to their citizen but absence of the money in their locker, they could not provide to everyone which is the biggest trouble for aged people.

On the other hand, possible solutions would be to teach financial education at the early age is helpful to store money for the later age, because parents and teachers provide only education of language, science and mathematics but they should also emphasis on the financial freedom. Moreover, authority should create new opportunities in the market for the local and overseas folks from where they get more taxes, which they can use for the retirement schema. For example, Canadian government could not afford the pension to their local in the 2012, so they launched a project to attract the expatriates, and they got success to came out from the recession period and increased the collection of taxes for the civilization.

To conclude, difficulty of financial trouble at old age and burden of retirement on authority could be solve through provide education of finance to students in the school and colleges and make investment by authority in the new technology to create job opportunities for locals and foreigners for economical stability.

In contemporary era, life expectancy and birth mortality has been shoot up due to development. However, there are some challenges raised as a side effect of growth. For instance, ageing inhabitants creating huge financial burden to the country. This essay will explain issues and measures which government and individual should take for mitigate the problem.

Firstly, the predominant issue is increasing number of retired people in the country. The authority has to give pension to these for longer period. As a result, Government has to keep large budget aside for supporting these, causing big dent in their fund. Moreover, Ministry is increasing mandatory contribution from younger generation that is tax whether they are employees or businessmen, affecting individual’s personal life. Secondly, older generation depends upon their children, younger people have to spend large amount of money and time in supporting them medically. Additionally, they are not able to concentrate over work and explore their capabilities to do extra work.

Although there are so many solutions for this problem, first is Government can increase retirement age for the older people so that they can support themselves. In addition to that immigration process can be made easy so that old age people can shift to developed nations. For example many developed countries are providing free healthcare and basic income for senior citizens which can help in reducing burden to the underdeveloped countries

In conclusion, rise in the age period has many side effects to the society. However, it can be controlled by implementing some rules and regulations to relief this issue in some extend.

In modern world, with the advancement of technology, the life expectancy of humans has increased significantly as compared to the past; however, it has caused various problems to the society. This essay will first suggest that the major problems caused by this issue are the increasing burden on healthcare system and lack of resources as well as argue that encouragement for volunteerism for elderly care and utilization of senior citizens are the most viable solutions.

To begin with, every nation ,whether it be developed or developing is facing the crisis of scarcity of health services. Consequently in the period of pandemic this causes issue in managing the affected public, especially the old aged individuals. In addition, amidst of it a dilemma is created on public health services to either treat the old and weak or the young abled ones. Secondly, as the population of senior citizens increases, the budget that government must provide for the retirement fund along with medical care also has to be increased, thereby creating a pressure on governments.

When it comes to solutions for these problems, campaigns to encourage the voluntary involvement of people to engage in helping the prominent healthcare workers should be carried out. For instance, during the pandemic period when there is need of taking care of mildly affected elder ones , non-affected persons can contribute by helping the nurses. Furthermore, the government could take steps to resolve the issue of lack of resources. One of the ways is to extend the age of retirement. Many countries have standard age of 55 to 60 years old, which can be extended to 60 to 65 years since their senior people are still in healthy and prime condition. Therefore, it would reduce the government social welfare budget for the retired people.

In conclusion, the world has developed a lot in recent years, and has positively impacted on the average life expectancy of people. However, this positive effect has also caused a lot of problems to the society, therefore it is necessary for governments to take some action to mitigate this issue.

In this modern era, the life span of human being and the birth control rate of a child is growing in a large scale. Furthermore, there are few challenges to control and manage the population. This essay will analyse about to how to decrease the impact of ageing people. To begin with, if people live a longer life span then the population will rise older and it’s not a good sign for any country. One of the first issue, country will suffer from a high budget problem because of getting the pensioned to the retired people were increasing. It is a huge burden of tax payers. In today’s life the proportion of young people is fewer as compared to the olders and it is not a great stuff because the responsbility to run the nation is on the youth shoulder. On the other hand, it is to significant to solve the issue of birth control rate. First of all, the govt have to make and implement some strict laws like we two ours two. The second issue is to migrate the older people to european countries for a better quality of life. The main reason behind immigration of older people is the decline population of european countries like denmark, belgium, netherlands etc. If the older people shifted to european countries for living then they get the oppurtunity to explore the historical places to visit as a last wish. In conclusion, the increase in life expectancy in the world may occur several issues just like unemployment etc. for the nation. Moreover, it can controlled by spreading awareness and implementing some strict laws by government to followed by audiences.

One of the major challenges of the growing population of elderly people is that it puts a heavy burden on the healthcare system. Older people are more vulnerable to chronic diseases, such as heart attacks or diabetes, that require special medical treatments to be effectively treated. The government might have to devote a larger budget to healthcare in order to serve the growing demands of an ageing population. Another problem facing a country with increasing life expectancy is that there will be an increase in the proportion of retired people claiming pension benefits, and a decline in the percentage of people of working age who pay income taxes. The combination of higher pension spending and lower tax revenues can seriously affect government spending and the economy as a whole.

The government could implement a range of measures to deal with the problems of increasing life expectancy. The first solution would be to increase the importance of the private sector in providing healthcare and pensions. This would help reduce the burden on government spending. Another measure would be to encourage the immigration of young working adults, which could help increase tax revenues for the government. Finally, it is important to educate people about the importance of money management and saving for retirement. By doing this, when people reach their retirement age, they will have a certain amount of money to take care of themselves without the need to depend on their children or the government.

Live Expectancy in the United States Essay

Introduction, main objectives.

Over the last several decades, life expectancy in the United States has not kept pace with other high-income countries. The US has ranked between 29 and 32 places worldwide between 2007 and 2012, which is below the majority of other developed and industrialized countries (Avendano & Kawachi, 2014). In addition to this, recent reports have been concluding that Americans experience higher injury, disease, and health-damaging behaviors compared to other countries (Avendano & Kawachi, 2014).

This problem remains unresolved despite the US having a good concentration of wealth in the country, which could have positively contributed to the increase of life expectancy. Therefore, despite the country’s potential, there is a lack of resources and solutions that can increase equality among the population to ensure that everyone receives the necessary degree of healthcare and prologues life expectancy.

Causes of death in the US have significantly contributed to the increased mortality in the country. For example, mortality from infectious diseases, childbirth, pregnancy complications, transport incidents, and homicide, are higher in the US than in the majority of other OECD countries (Avendano & Kawachi, 2014). In addition to the mentioned fatal causes, Americans have a higher prevalence of low birth weight, injuries from traffic incidents, poor mental health, and HIV prevalence. Thus, poor health outcomes of the population are the result of several broad mechanisms that contribute to high mortality rates.

Quality of medical care and public health systems, as well as access to healthcare insurance, individual behaviors, social and demographic factors, as well as physical and environmental factors all, contribute to high mortality rates. Socioeconomic inequality, as well as racial disparities, are particularly important to note because the United States has a high concentration of diverse groups and populations, which, because of their ‘low’ status, cannot receive the necessary level of care. Inequality of health persists in wealthy countries because of the segregation of groups based on race and religion, thus increasing health inequities among underserved populations (Cheng & Goodman, 2015).

Social differences in health are considered inequities because they perpetuate an unfair distribution of not only healthcare resources but also risks and behaviors that increase the likelihood of individuals getting diagnosed with adverse conditions or getting injured.

Therefore, the connections between health and race and ethnicity cannot be doubted when it comes to discussing mortality rates in the United States. The persistence of health differences that are based on people’s nationality, ethnicity, and other social factors raises concerns in terms of morality, thus distributing the notion of unfairness and injustice in society (Arcaya, Arcaya, & Subramanian, 2015). As health is considered a human right protected by the United Nations General Assembly Universal Declaration of Human Rights, there should be more attention given to health disparities in the US to increase life expectancy and overcome barriers that prevent some social groups from getting the quality of healthcare that they deserve.

While many see people’s poor health as a combination of behaviors, choices, and genetic predispositions, it is essential to understand that social processes are far more important when considering populations at large. Despite being a wealthy country with a myriad of resources to accommodate the population, the United States still has lower life expectancy than comparable countries worldwide. Strong legislative efforts are required to overcome this problem, with a specific focus placed on the elimination of health disparities.
