Essays About Best Friends: 5 Essay Examples and 7 Prompts

If you’re writing an essay and want to put your best friend in the spotlight, check out these essay examples on essays about best friends.

Best friends are those with whom we have formed a deep and unique bond. What makes them remarkably special is that we chose them unlike with family. For this, some even consider their best friends to be extensions of themselves.

We all trust our best friends wholeheartedly; that’s why they are the best people to confide in. And many of the lasting memories in our lives are those that we create with them. These memories could be filled with waves of boisterous laughter or even the most piercing pain when your friendship is tested.

Read on and find essay examples and prompts that could motivate you to write about best friends.

5 Essay Examples

1. how friendships change in adulthood by julie beck, 2. diamonds are not this girl’s best friend by courtney carver, 3. how to tell your best friend you’re in love with them – by those who have taken the plunge by sirin kale, 4. my best friend died: a real-life guide to coping by gabrielle applebury, 5. is it normal to not have a best friend by viktor sander, 7 helpful writing prompts on essays about best friends, 1. describe your best friend, 2. hanging out with your best friend , 3. long distance friendship, 4. cutting off toxic best friends, 5. falling in love with your best friend, 6. famous literary friendships, 7. a dog is a man’s best friend.

“Hanging out with a set of lifelong best friends can be annoying, because the years of inside jokes and references often make their communication unintelligible to outsiders. But this sort of shared language is part of what makes friendships last.”

The above essay delves into the evolution of friendship throughout the different stages of our lives, from childhood and teen years to family life and retirement. While we have all deferred a meetup with friends several times to attend to family and work, many people still treat their friendship as stable and continuous, even in long lapses in communication.

You might also find these essays about camping trips helpful.

“My best friend is a magical, rooftop sunrise. My best friend is the ocean. My best friend is a hike in the mountains. My best friend is a peaceful afternoon. My best friend is a really good book. My best friend is laughter. My best friend is seeing the world. My best friend is time with people I love.”

This essay takes on a broader definition of a “best friend,” deriving from Marilyn Monroe’s famous quote: “Diamond are a girl’s best friend.” From having excessive material wants for every occasion, the author realizes that the greatest “friends” in life are not material things but the simple joys that nature and love can bring.

“It was supposed to go the way things do in the movies. Nora would tell her best friend that she loved him, he would feel the same way and then they would kiss – preferably in the rain. So when the 30-year-old arts manager declared her love for her best friend when they were still teenagers, she expected a happy ending.”

The essay by Srirn Kale treats its readers to compelling stories of best friends ending up in marriage and those parting ways because of unrequited love. But, before taking the bold step of declaring your love for your best friend, a relationship guru advises lovers first to read the signs that signal any reciprocity of these deep feelings.

“Losing a best friend may be one of the most difficult and heartbreaking experiences you have in your lifetime. If you aren’t sure how to process that your best friend died, know that there are many healthy options when it comes to coping with this type of loss.”

Coping with losing a best friend could lead to depression or even suicidal thoughts, especially if your best friend means the world to you. Some coping tips include journaling your grieving process to understand your emotions and confusion better and doing things that can relive your best friend’s memories.

“If you are happy with the friends you currently have, there’s no need to try making a best friend for the sake of it. You might have friends but no best friend; that’s perfectly OK. It’s not necessary to have a BFF.”

Not everyone has a best friend. Some would find this fact hard to believe, but a YouGov survey has shown that 1 in 5 of the US population claims to have no close friends. The essay, therefore, explores the reasons for this friendlessness and gives tips on building a bond with potential best friends, starting with your existing circle of acquaintances.

Essays About Best Friends: Describe your best friend

Begin this essay by describing what your best friend looks like and what traits you like most about them. Then, given these qualities, would you consider your best friend a role model? Your essay can also answer how similar you and your best friend are and what things you both agree on. But if you have more differences than similarities, write how you deal with them or put them aside.

In this essay, describe your favorite ways to hang out with your best friend. What do you like doing together? Describe what a day spent with your best friend looks like and which part you like most about your dates. If your conversations draw your mutual admiration for each other, then talk about what topics make you talk for hours on end and their perspectives on things that you find fascinating.

Do different time zones make friends grow apart? Or does distance make the heart grow fonder? First, interview two to three people whose best friends moved to a different country or city. Next, learn how frequently they communicate with each other. Finally, compile these stories and make a smooth transition to each one such that the structure highlights the challenges of long-distance friendships and how each set of friends gets by.

Discarding best friends is a hard decision. But it is also brave if you feel they are dragging you down. For this prompt, you can pose a list of questions readers can ask themselves to grasp the situation better. For example, is your friend doing you more harm than good? Have you set boundaries that they find hard to respect? Then, explain how reflecting on each question can help one determine when it is time to cut some ties loose.

Falling in love with your best friend can only end in two scenarios: a happy ever after or an end of a beautiful relationship. Expanding on our essay prompt above, list down more tips to know when it is best to confront your best friend about your feelings or work hard to quash your emotions for the continuity of the relationship.

Pick out best friends from novels that formed friendships that touched you the most. They could be Harry, Ron, Hermoine of Harry Potter, Frodo, Sam of the Lord Of The Rings, or even Sherlock and Watson From The Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes. First, describe what it is in their friendship that you find most riveting. Then, narrate events that served as the biggest tests to their friendships and how they conquered these challenges.

What about dogs that some people find more lovable than others? Answer this in your essay by outlining the traits that make a dog the ideal best friend. For one, their loyalty makes us confident that they will not betray us. If you have a dog, write about the qualities that make your dog a reliable and fun companion. Then, narrate events when your dog proved to be your best friend.

To describe a true best friend, focus on the emotional resonance of your bond, the ways in which they’ve supported you, and how they inspire you to be your best self.

Consider the challenges you’ve faced together and how those experiences have strengthened your friendship.

Reflect on their character, the moments of joy, and even the simple, everyday interactions that mean so much.

A true best friend is someone who is there for you unconditionally, understands you deeply, and with whom you share an unbreakable bond of trust and mutual respect.

Their presence in your life is a constant source of support, laughter, and love.

Essay on my best friend

Our Friendship

Our friendship started when my best friend came in as a new admission to our class. Both of us were hesitant to talk to each other at first, but gradually we developed a bond. I remember the first time my best friend tried to talk to me; I rolled my eyes because I thought there was no use and we wouldn’t hit it off. However, to my surprise, we became best friends by the end of the session year.

We learned so many things about each other and found out that our taste in music and fashion was so similar. Since then, there was no stopping us. We spent all our time together and our friendship became the talk of the class. We used to help each other out in studies and visited each other’s homes as well. We made sure to have lunch together on Sundays. We also used to watch movies and cartoons together.

On our summer break, we even went to summer camp together and made a lot of memories. Once during the summer holidays, she also accompanied me to my maternal grandparents’ home. We had a fabulous time there. Moreover, we even invented our own handshake which only both of us knew. Through this bond, I learned that family doesn’t end with blood because my best friend was no less than my family. Friendship is one relationship that you choose, unlike all other relationships.

Qualities of My Best Friend

I feel one of the main reasons why I formed such a bond with my best friend was because of the qualities she possesses. Her courage always inspired me to raise my voice against injustice as she always stood up to her bullies. She is also one of the smartest minds in class who doesn’t only excel academically but also in life. I have never seen a dancer as good as my best friend, the accolades she has won are proof of her talent.

Above all, I feel the quality that appeals to me the most is her compassion . Whether it’s towards humans or animals, she always keeps the same approach. For instance, there was an injured stray dog that was wailing in pain, my best friend did not only get him treated but she also adopted him.

Similarly, she saw a poor old woman on the streets one day and she only had money for her lunch. My best friend did not hesitate once before giving all of it to the poor lady. That incident made me respect her even more and inspired me to help the underprivileged more often.

Tips On Writing A Paragraph On My Best Friend

Introduce your best friend: Start by introducing your best friend and providing some basic information about them, such as their name and how long you’ve known each other. For example, “My best friend, Sarah, has been by my side for over a decade, and our friendship has only grown stronger with time.”

Highlight their qualities and characteristics: Describe the qualities and characteristics that make your best friend special. Focus on their positive traits, such as their kindness, loyalty, sense of humor, or empathy. Provide examples or anecdotes to illustrate these qualities. For instance, “Sarah is the epitome of kindness, always going out of her way to help others. I remember when she spent hours organizing a surprise birthday party for me, ensuring every detail was perfect.”

Share memorable experiences: Recall some memorable experiences or adventures you’ve shared with your best friend. Describe the fun, laughter, or meaningful moments you’ve experienced together. This helps to showcase the bond and connection you have. For example, “From road trips to late-night conversations, Sarah and I have shared countless adventures. One of my favorite memories is when we hiked to the top of a mountain and watched the sunrise, celebrating the beauty of nature and our friendship.”

Express gratitude and appreciation: Take a moment to express your gratitude and appreciation for your best friend. Share how they have positively impacted your life and why they are important to you. This adds depth and emotion to your paragraph. For instance, “I am incredibly grateful to have Sarah in my life. Her unwavering support and belief in me have given me the strength to overcome challenges and pursue my dreams. I am forever thankful for her presence.”

Conclude with a reflection: Wrap up your paragraph by reflecting on the significance of your best friend in your life. Summarize the qualities, experiences, and emotions you’ve mentioned and state what makes them truly special. This leaves a lasting impression on the reader. For example, “In conclusion, Sarah is not just my best friend; she is my confidant, my cheerleader, and my partner in crime. Definition: What Is a My Best Friend Essay?

Write about what you know is sage advice often given to fledgling writers. And what do many of our young students know more about than their trusty sidekick, who is a constant presence through thick and thin?

A My Best Friend Essay is precisely what it sounds like; an essay the student writes that is focused on their closest pal’s endearing attributes (and otherwise).

However, the My Best Friend Essay is more than just a chance for students to wax lyrical about their BFFs. It is an authentic opportunity for students to hone their composition skills and exercise their creative flair.

All this while talking about one of their best mate – not bad!

STRUCTURING a My Best Friend Essay

This is an essay. It says so right there in the title! Just how complex the structure of a student’s essay is will depend on essential factors such as age and ability. However, the 5-paragraph essay structure is a perfect framework for this type of composition.

One of the most beautiful aspects of the 5-paragraph essay is that it is easily modified to differentiate between lower or higher ability students by simply adjusting the number of paragraphs. The essay will still contain the same essential elements of an introduction, a body, and a conclusion, regardless of how long it is.

The 5-paragraph (or hamburger) essay is a craft in itself and much too broad a topic to go into at length. Check out our complete guide here if you want more detail on this handy essay template.

Briefly though, in essence, the 5-paragraph essay comprises three parts:

  • The Introduction : The opening paragraph will orient the reader to the topic of the essay, in this case, by introducing the show’s star, the best friend .
  • The Body : In the traditional 5-paragraph essay, this makes up three of the five paragraphs. In this type of essay, the student will use these paragraphs to flesh out the main reasons they value their friend, or (at a more advanced level) they will tell a story about them that illustrates why they are the student’s best friend.
  • The Conclusion : In the conclusion, the student can sum up why their friend holds the hallowed title of ‘best’. Or, at a higher level, the student can use the final paragraph of their essay to look forward to the future of their relationship with their best friend.

My Best Friend Essay Story

While we are teaching a short essay on my best friend’, it can also be approached from another angle, i.e., as a nonfiction story.

While the clearcut essay format may be eminently suitable for younger students, you may wish to revisit this genre with older students, this time emphasising storytelling.

In this creative nonfiction approach, students can merge the essay format with storytelling elements such as character, setting, central conflict, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution.

Constructing their best friend composition in this manner allows students to work on structuring a nonfiction text. Simultaneously, it offers them a chance to develop their creative flair.

My Best Friend in 10 Lines

Another approach particularly well-suited to younger students is the my best friend essay 10 lines format.

This helps younger students get writing by giving them a clear target to aim for, which makes planning easy.

However, you can still introduce the three elements of the 5-paragraph essay here. As students list the points they want to make in their 10 lines, they can be encouraged to group these into introduction, body, and conclusion sections.

For example, a plan might look like this:

A ‘My Best Friend in 10 Lines’ Plan

Introduction

Line 1: My friend’s name.

Line 2: What she looks like.

Line 3: Where she is from/her family.

Line 4: What friendship means to me.

Line 5: How we met.

Line 6: The kindest thing she has ever done.

Line 7: The funniest thing she has ever done.

Line 8: My absolute favorite thing about her.

Line 9: Restate why she is my best friend.

Line 10: How I see our future together.

To complete their 10-line ode to their friend, the student simply builds proper sentences around each of these (or similar) ideas.

More on Planning a My Best Friend Composition

As we can see in the sample plan above, the planning process is relatively straightforward when the 5-paragraph essay structure serves as a framework. However, we may want to take things up a notch for students of a higher ability.

A good, old-fashioned brainstorming session is an excellent starting point for the student. They can list their favorite memories and their friend’s best features.

While younger students may inevitably write something of a hagiography (a biography of a saint!), older students may want to present a more realistic portrait of their ever-present amigo.

Likewise, if the student is undertaking their composition in a narrative nonfiction form, they’ll need to map out the narrative arc of their story at the planning stage.

As with any story, the conflict will serve as the engine of the narrative. However, this conflict does not have to take the form of a problem between the writer and the best friend. After all, this text is more likely to be something of a love letter than a letter of complaint. Instead, the conflict is more likely to take the form of a problem or a challenge faced by the writer and their pal together.

Whether or not the student’s text will take a full-blown story form, true-to-life anecdotes will bring life to the student’s writing. The planning process is the perfect time to dump these onto paper, even if they don’t all make it into the final draft.

How to Start a MY Best Friend Essay

As with most text types, fiction or nonfiction, the writer will want to grab the reader’s attention from the outset. An effective way of doing this is by using a hook.

How to Hook The Reader

The student writer has many methods available to grasp the reader’s attention. While some of these will only be suitable for more advanced students, most can be adapted with a bit of effort for our younger writers.

  • Start in the Middle of the Action

Technically known as, In Medias Res , this technique involves opening the story in the middle of a moment of dramatic tension with the exposition filled in later. This type of wizardry is probably best reserved for the more skilled student writer.

  • Make a Bold Promise at the Outset

The promise of a big payoff can undoubtedly catch a reader’s eye and draw them in, but the student-writer must follow through later in the text. For less experienced students, you may want to offer a writing prompt to help out here. For example,

My best friend Jack is truly one of a kind, but just how special he is wasn’t clear to me until the day a fire broke out in our school.

Students can quickly adapt such prompts by changing the event mentioned to their own circumstances.

  • Create a Sense of Intimacy

Another way to grasp the reader’s interest is to create a sense of intimacy right from the start. This can be achieved by addressing the reader directly in a conversational tone. Students should use informal language and approach writing their text as if they were speaking to a close friend – this is perfect for this writing style.

  • Open with an Anecdote

Another way to create interest (and a sense of intimacy) is to open up with an interesting anecdote about the friend. Students can select an interesting or humorous story to use as a carrot to entice the reader in. The student could substitute an exciting or amusing fact in shorter pieces for a full-blown anecdote.

  • Begin with a Quotation

Quotes are a great way to garner attention. There are many online repositories of inspirational quotes on every topic under the sun where students can find a golden nugget of friendship-based wisdom to open their masterpieces. They must simply type in keywords such as ‘famous’, ‘quotes’, and ‘friendship’ to uncover a smorgasbord of well-articulated wisdom for students to choose from. However, students should ensure the sentiment expressed in their selected quote ties into the type of friendship described in their work.

Working the Body

As we stated earlier in this article, the 5-paragraph essay structure, or the narrative writing arc, lays out a suitable template for the student-writer to work their way through the body of their text. However, it’s worth pointing out five areas where a little attention can significantly impact.

  • Get Specific

The devil’s in the details. The more specific the student is in their writing, the more effectively they will communicate with the reader.

Encourage students to be as precise as possible in their descriptions. A thesaurus is an excellent tool to help students find just the right word for the job.

  • Vary Sentence Length

Often, emergent writers rely on the same couple of simple sentence structures in their writing. This soon makes the writing monotonous for the reader; if they continue to read, it is only with effort that they will finish the student’s work.

Variety is not only the spice of life but also the spice of good writing. Encourage students to vary their sentence structures and alternate between long and short sentences to diversify the rhythm of their writing and evoke interest on the reader’s part.

  • Use Dialogue

Weaving dialogue into a my best friend essay text is a great way to bring colour and variety to a student’s writing. It also allows the student to practice punctuating dialogue – an essential skill!

Students will need to learn to listen carefully if they are to be able to write how people actually speak. Encouraging them to read their dialogue aloud is an effective way to check if it rings true.

  • Incorporate Literary Devices

Though this is undoubtedly a nonfiction text, it has firm roots in creative writing too. Students should incorporate some of the literary techniques and devices that we’d more commonly associate with poetry and fiction writing to add colour, creativity, and imagination to their writing.

For example, for younger students, physical descriptions of their BFF provide the perfect opportunity to introduce similes and hyperbole. Don’t be afraid to get comical here; writing should be fun, after all.

Does their friend have a big nose? How big? As big as an elephant’s trunk, perhaps?

Just make sure students avoid being too mean or poking fun at areas too sensitive for their friends.

It is easy to differentiate different abilities by challenging stronger students to use more complex literary devices in their work. Zoomorphism anyone?

  • Evoke the Five Senses

Emergent writers often display a bias towards only using the sense of sight in their descriptions. To bring their writing up a notch, encourage your students to employ all five senses in their writing.

By evoking the sense of hearing, smell, taste, and touch in their work, students will help their writing to come alive in the reader’s imagination.

WRAPPING THINGS Up

In a regular 5-paragraph essay, the concluding paragraph is usually the time to summarize the main arguments and drive home the thesis statement one more time. Obviously, things are a little bit different in a “my best friend essay.”

Of course, students can take the opportunity to revisit and restate the main reasons why their best friend holds the best-friend-championship belt. Still, there is a more artistic way to use their composition’s final paragraph.

Ask students to think about their friendship and where they see it in five, ten, twenty, or even forty years.

Undoubtedly, for younger students, in particular, this may be a bit of a challenge, but it can be a fun thought experiment too. Students can pose themselves questions to help, such as:

  • Will we be neighbours?
  • Will we work together?
  • Will our children go to school together? Etc.

Taking a tentative step into the possibilities of the future can make for an impactful ending.

How to Write a Biography (Examples & Templates)

A biography is a written account of a person’s life that details their life in chronological order. Another person usually writes this detailed account, and it contains reports of their childhood, career, major life events, relationships, and social impact. It also details their relationships with their family, children, and life accomplishments.

The best way to find out more about a popular figure is through reading their biographies, so you need to make sure you get the correct information. Before writing a biography, you need to do a lot of research and interviews to represent a person’s life accurately.

Types of Biography

A biography is the story of someone’s life as written by another writer. Most biographies of popular figures are written years, or even decades, after their deaths. Authors write biographies of popular figures due to either a lack of information on the subject or personal interest.

A biography aims to share a person’s story or highlight a part of their life.

There are different types of biographies, depending on the story. Some biographies are written true to the story, while some are written as fictional works. Biographies can give you true understanding of a person on an internal as well as external level along with a lot of life lessons.

Autobiography

An autobiography is different from a biography because it is written by the subject of the story, themselves. The author writes in the first-person narrative, and it flows step-by-step like a story of their life. Autobiographies contain personal accounts of the subject’s life, along with their perspectives and opinions on events in their life.

How To Write a Biography

Pick a subject.

Picking a subject is the first step in writing a biography. You can pick an already famous person or a relatively unknown person with a great life story. If you already have a few in mind, you can start by asking yourself some questions such as;

  • What has the subject accomplished that makes them a good subject?
  • Have they had an impact on society?
  • Is the subject a celebrity or a well-known personality?
  • Will the biography appeal to a wide audience?

Get Permission

When you pick a subject, the next thing to do is to get permission from them or their family or rights owners. Although, with some historical figures, there may not be any need for permission. Getting permission from your subject makes it easier for you to get stories to put into your book. You can get the chance to obtain additional personal stories and anecdotes that will make your book more interesting by doing so as well.

Do The Research

Research is the most important part of a biography’s process as the entire content of the book is dependent on it. Irrespective of what you know about the subject, you need to carry out as much research as possible to get the story’s facts precisely.

Biography research comes from various sources, depending on the book’s subject. Firsthand reports from family, friends, or personal accounts from the subjects are primary sources. They are usually the most accurate and reliable, and they are crucial for a biography. Secondary sources come from other sources like magazines or documentaries.

Pick a Format

Biographies come in various formats, with each of them having their pros and cons. A typical biography will start at the beginning, usually with the birth and childhood of the subject. Yet, if the biography’s theme involves a different event in their life, the author may want to explore the flashback option or one with concurrent events from different times.

Usually, biographies have a theme or a general life lesson at the center. The author’s role is to tell the subject’s story leading up to the major event.

Which-ever format you choose should place the theme at the center, with the other events detailing the journey.

Create a Timeline Of The Story

Since a biography takes place in chronological order, there needs to be a timeline of the events in the right order. The timeline should contain the key events in the subject’s life, in the order the author plans on revealing them. A great way to declutter the story and keep it interesting is to use flashbacks . This way, the author can introduce past events and explain later events excluding the element of monotony.

Add In Your Thoughts

The good thing about biographies is that you don’t have to stick to the hard facts only. As the author, you can share your opinions and emotions in writing. The author has the freedom to do this by commenting on a significant action by the subject in a manner that describes why they feel the subject may have done what they did.

The author can also include commentary on events depicted in the biography – how it was influenced society or its impact on the lives around them. Recounting these events through a different perspective can make the biography more relatable and interesting to read.

FAQ’s

Why is a biography template important.

A biography template has an outline that makes the writing easier for the author. Biography templates usually contain a sample timeline, format, and questions that provide more information about the subject. With a great biography template, you can cut your writing time in half and spend less time coming up with an outline.

How are biographies better in comparison to autobiographies

Since a different person writes biographies, they tend to be more objective and somewhat accurate than autobiographies. An autobiography tells things from the author’s perspective, so their views and perspective cloud it. Thus, a biography will likely tell a more factual story.

These are the important steps you need to take to help you write a great biography. Now, to make things easier for you, we have a free customizable autobiography and biography template that you can use to start your first book. Get the template and start writing today

What are some of the most important elements to keep in consideration while writing a biography?

Any author looking to write a biography must consider the factors below. They aren’t the only important factors, but a biography isn’t complete without them. • Date and place of their birth • Academic background • Professional expertise • Death, if deceased • Facts and anecdotes about the person • Main accomplishments • Detailed accounts of their child and adult life

Biographies tell the untold stories of some incredibly relevant people in the world. But biographies are not always strictly accurate. So, every biographer needs to follow the necessary steps to provide a biography with all the requirements.

My Best Friend Essay in English (100, 200, 300, 500 Words)

A best friend is a special and unforgettable person in our lives and will stay longer than other common friends. We share most of the things, conversations, and important talks and support them anytime in our lives.

In this topic, we are discussing the best friend and the memories that we all spent with our friends and best friends.

We have covered an essay pattern in various paragraphs of around 100 words, 200 words, 300 words, and 500 words, respectively, that helps many of the children or students of class 2 to 12th to understand the short and descriptive essay pattern of the best friend.

Table of Contents

My Best Friend Essay 100 Words

I always thank God that he sent Rahul into my life as my best friend, and I also wish that everyone has a friend like Rahul. Rahul and I met on the first day of school after the summer vacation when we were studying in the 5th standard.

I also remember an incident when our class teacher asked him about his previous school and the place from where he came. He is a good speaker, and he gave an interesting answer to everyone in his introduction in class.

He is good at studies and also a good athlete. He loves running and singing too, and his handwriting is also very neat and clean. I feel happy to become his friend, and he also loves my company, and we spend most of our time together.

My Best Friend Essay 200 Words

I have had a lot of friends since childhood, but Raghav is one of the kindest and most trustworthy friends for me. I must say that Rohan has been my best friend since childhood. He is a very good person and a true friend because he has a good manner that he never lies to anyone, and hates people who lie to him. He is a kind boy and also a sincere student. We both live in the same building, and our apartments are also in front of each other.

My parents also met my friend in the school at the parents-teachers meeting, and they also like Raghav and his sincerity. We both have been in the same class from the 3rd standard until now. We are in the 10th standard now, and we both help each other in the preparation for Board exams, which will be held in the month of March.

He always invites me to his house to play video games with him. Every Sunday, we both enjoy playing video games with popcorn and juice together. Sometimes, our school teachers also wonder about our true friendship and the strong bond between us. He has a set of badminton rackets and a shuttle, and we also play together in the evening near our building. We both love each other’s company.

My Best Friend Essay 300 Words

Everyone has at least a single friend who is more than just a friend to them. Getting a friend is common, but getting a true friend is very rare and a bit special. It is like a big achievement for people to get a trustworthy and lifelong best friend. I also had a best friend in my life too since childhood. His name is Ganaraj, and his mother is Telugu. We are neighbors too and also classmates. We always sit together in school and also spend most of the time together.

He is a very talented person and always supports me in my studies. We both like mathematics, and also we love to solve maths numerical problems. I like to play games, and we both always play games together and participate in the sports that are held in school. Our favorite sport is Cricket, and we both are good all-rounders on our school cricket team. Our class teacher always suggests and supports us to play cricket even better and also helps in education to achieve success in life.

He is very valuable to me, and I always value his friendship as I value my parents. He is like my family, as a brother from another mother. Whenever I need his help and support, my best friend is there for me to hold me. We both live in the precious moment and create memories that will stay with me forever. Our friendship is a kind of beautiful relationship, and I hope any kind will never break these mistakes. Every Sunday, we go together to a playground near our locality, and we spend most of our time there. My parents also like Ganaraj to be my friend. Everyone is happy with our friendship and has a strong bond that never goes down in any situation.

My Best Friend Essay 500 Words

My best friend’s name is Siddhart Jadhav. We have been friends since class 7th A in Alfred Nobel High School. We both studied in the same school in childhood but not in the same class as our sections are different. Later that time, all the students from all the sections are sorted according to the previous academics’ percentages and grades and separated into four different sections. Due to this separation, I met Siddhart in the 7th A, and we became friends at that time. Later, time goes by, and our friendship bond becomes stronger, and we become best friends with each other and spend most of our time together in school, tuition, and extra classes. We also sit on the same bench in the classroom.

Our likes and dislikes are also common, and we also love to dance and sing. In every annual gathering and other function that is held in our school, we both participate and give our best performances. We never wanted to win the competitions, our intention was to enjoy the gathering. Some of our school teachers don’t like our togetherness and friendship, but some of them loved and always blessed our strong bonded friendship to stay longer and longer. Siddharth and I always talked in the running classroom, and most of the time, our teacher also punished both of us by standing outside the classroom. We always tried to irritate the lecturer in the chemistry lectures by asking tons of doubts and questions. We eat tiffin boxes sitting on the last benches.

Apart from this naughtiness, Siddharth is very punctual, and he is never late for coming to school and attending classes. He always completes his homework at a given time and being with him, I also start studying very well and completing my homework on time. He keeps his books and copies very clean. His writing is very nice and encourages me to write cleanly and clearly for better understanding. My parents also compliment my friend that being with him, I also become responsible and a good student.

Siddharth and I are both excellent football players and athletes. When we both start playing the football game, the opponent team never wins. Our sports teacher always motivates us and tells us that we will become good football players one day. My parents also know Siddharth very much, and they like his pleasant behavior. Feel free when Siddharth and I stay together, whether for playing games, video games, study, or for going out to have fun with other classmates. Siddharth is my best friend, my first friend. He is the one who offers me help in my studies when I need it, supports me and always shows love to me, defends me, and stands by my side in any situation no matter what.

In academics, my best friend, Siddharth, is chosen to be awarded the best student of the year in the 10th class. He is one of the brilliant students of our school and also won many of the competitions that were held in school. He is like a well-wisher, and I always enjoyed his company. He, too, feels secure and relieved by spending time with me as well. He is like a problem-solving friend to me. I never wanted to lose him in my life.

The 30 best biographies of all time.

The 30 Best Biographies of All Time

Biographer Richard Holmes once wrote that his work was “a kind of pursuit… writing about the pursuit of that fleeting figure, in such a way as to bring them alive in the present.”

At the risk of sounding cliché, the best biographies do exactly this: bring their subjects to life. A great biography isn’t just a laundry list of events that happened to someone. Rather, it should weave a narrative and tell a story in almost the same way a novel does. In this way, biography differs from the rest of nonfiction .

All the biographies on this list are just as captivating as excellent novels , if not more so. With that, please enjoy the 30 best biographies of all time — some historical, some recent, but all remarkable, life-giving tributes to their subjects.

If you're feeling overwhelmed by the number of great biographies out there, you can also take our 30-second quiz below to narrow it down quickly and get a personalized biography recommendation  😉

Which biography should you read next?

Discover the perfect biography for you. Takes 30 seconds!

1. A Beautiful Mind by Sylvia Nasar

This biography of esteemed mathematician John Nash was both a finalist for the 1998 Pulitzer Prize and the basis for the award-winning film of the same name. Nasar thoroughly explores Nash’s prestigious career, from his beginnings at MIT to his work at the RAND Corporation — as well the internal battle he waged against schizophrenia, a disorder that nearly derailed his life.

2. Alan Turing: The Enigma: The Book That Inspired the Film The Imitation Game - Updated Edition by Andrew Hodges

Hodges’ 1983 biography of Alan Turing sheds light on the inner workings of this brilliant mathematician, cryptologist, and computer pioneer. Indeed, despite the title ( a nod to his work during WWII ), a great deal of the “enigmatic” Turing is laid out in this book. It covers his heroic code-breaking efforts during the war, his computer designs and contributions to mathematical biology in the years following, and of course, the vicious persecution that befell him in the 1950s — when homosexual acts were still a crime punishable by English law.

3. Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow

Ron Chernow’s Alexander Hamilton is not only the inspiration for a hit Broadway musical, but also a work of creative genius itself. This massive undertaking of over 800 pages details every knowable moment of the youngest Founding Father’s life: from his role in the Revolutionary War and early American government to his sordid (and ultimately career-destroying) affair with Maria Reynolds. He may never have been president, but he was a fascinating and unique figure in American history — plus it’s fun to get the truth behind the songs.

4. Barracoon: The Story of the Last "Black Cargo" by Zora Neale Hurston

A prolific essayist, short story writer, and novelist, Hurston turned her hand to biographical writing in 1927 with this incredible work, kept under lock and key until it was published 2018. It’s based on Hurston’s interviews with the last remaining survivor of the Middle Passage slave trade, a man named Cudjo Lewis. Rendered in searing detail and Lewis’ highly affecting African-American vernacular, this biography of the “last black cargo” will transport you back in time to an era that, chillingly, is not nearly as far away from us as it feels.

5. Churchill: A Life by Martin Gilbert

Though many a biography of him has been attempted, Gilbert’s is the final authority on Winston Churchill — considered by many to be Britain’s greatest prime minister ever. A dexterous balance of in-depth research and intimately drawn details makes this biography a perfect tribute to the mercurial man who led Britain through World War II.

Just what those circumstances are occupies much of Bodanis's book, which pays homage to Einstein and, just as important, to predecessors such as Maxwell, Faraday, and Lavoisier, who are not as well known as Einstein today. Balancing writerly energy and scholarly weight, Bodanis offers a primer in modern physics and cosmology, explaining that the universe today is an expression of mass that will, in some vastly distant future, one day slide back to the energy side of the equation, replacing the \'dominion of matter\' with \'a great stillness\'--a vision that is at once lovely and profoundly frightening.

Without sliding into easy psychobiography, Bodanis explores other circumstances as well; namely, Einstein's background and character, which combined with a sterling intelligence to afford him an idiosyncratic view of the way things work--a view that would change the world. --Gregory McNamee

6. E=mc²: A Biography of the World's Most Famous Equation by David Bodanis

This “biography of the world’s most famous equation” is a one-of-a-kind take on the genre: rather than being the story of Einstein, it really does follow the history of the equation itself. From the origins and development of its individual elements (energy, mass, and light) to their ramifications in the twentieth century, Bodanis turns what could be an extremely dry subject into engaging fare for readers of all stripes.

7. Enrique's Journey by Sonia Nazario

When Enrique was only five years old, his mother left Honduras for the United States, promising a quick return. Eleven years later, Enrique finally decided to take matters into his own hands in order to see her again: he would traverse Central and South America via railway, risking his life atop the “train of death” and at the hands of the immigration authorities, to reunite with his mother. This tale of Enrique’s perilous journey is not for the faint of heart, but it is an account of incredible devotion and sharp commentary on the pain of separation among immigrant families.

8. Frida: A Biography of Frida Kahlo by Hayden Herrera

Herrera’s 1983 biography of renowned painter Frida Kahlo, one of the most recognizable names in modern art, has since become the definitive account on her life. And while Kahlo no doubt endured a great deal of suffering (a horrific accident when she was eighteen, a husband who had constant affairs), the focal point of the book is not her pain. Instead, it’s her artistic brilliance and immense resolve to leave her mark on the world — a mark that will not soon be forgotten, in part thanks to Herrera’s dedicated work.

9. The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot

Perhaps the most impressive biographical feat of the twenty-first century, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks is about a woman whose cells completely changed the trajectory of modern medicine. Rebecca Skloot skillfully commemorates the previously unknown life of a poor black woman whose cancer cells were taken, without her knowledge, for medical testing — and without whom we wouldn’t have many of the critical cures we depend upon today.

10. Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer

Christopher McCandless, aka Alexander Supertramp, hitchhiked to Alaska and disappeared into the Denali wilderness in April 1992. Five months later, McCandless was found emaciated and deceased in his shelter — but of what cause? Krakauer’s biography of McCandless retraces his steps back to the beginning of the trek, attempting to suss out what the young man was looking for on his journey, and whether he fully understood what dangers lay before him.

11. Let Us Now Praise Famous Men: Three Tenant Families by James Agee

"Let us now praise famous men, and our fathers that begat us.” From this line derives the central issue of Agee and Evans’ work: who truly deserves our praise and recognition? According to this 1941 biography, it’s the barely-surviving sharecropper families who were severely impacted by the American “Dust Bowl” — hundreds of people entrenched in poverty, whose humanity Evans and Agee desperately implore their audience to see in their book.

12. The Lost City of Z: A Tale of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon by David Grann

Another mysterious explorer takes center stage in this gripping 2009 biography. Grann tells the story of Percy Fawcett, the archaeologist who vanished in the Amazon along with his son in 1925, supposedly in search of an ancient lost city. Parallel to this narrative, Grann describes his own travels in the Amazon 80 years later: discovering firsthand what threats Fawcett may have encountered, and coming to realize what the “Lost City of Z” really was.

13. Mao: The Unknown Story by Jung Chang

Though many of us will be familiar with the name Mao Zedong, this prodigious biography sheds unprecedented light upon the power-hungry “Red Emperor.” Chang and Halliday begin with the shocking statistic that Mao was responsible for 70 million deaths during peacetime — more than any other twentieth-century world leader. From there, they unravel Mao’s complex ideologies, motivations, and missions, breaking down his long-propagated “hero” persona and thrusting forth a new, grislier image of one of China’s biggest revolutionaries.

14. Mad Girl's Love Song: Sylvia Plath and Life Before Ted by Andrew Wilson by Andrew Wilson

Titled after one of her most evocative poems, this shimmering bio of Sylvia Plath takes an unusual approach. Instead of focusing on her years of depression and tempestuous marriage to poet Ted Hughes, it chronicles her life before she ever came to Cambridge. Wilson closely examines her early family and relationships, feelings and experiences, with information taken from her meticulous diaries — setting a strong precedent for other Plath biographers to follow.

15. The Minds of Billy Milligan by Daniel Keyes

What if you had twenty-four different people living inside you, and you never knew which one was going to come out? Such was the life of Billy Milligan, the subject of this haunting biography by the author of Flowers for Algernon . Keyes recounts, in a refreshingly straightforward style, the events of Billy’s life and how his psyche came to be “split”... as well as how, with Keyes’ help, he attempted to put the fragments of himself back together.

16. Mountains Beyond Mountains: The Quest of Dr. Paul Farmer, a Man Who Would Cure the World by Tracy Kidder

This gorgeously constructed biography follows Paul Farmer, a doctor who’s worked for decades to eradicate infectious diseases around the globe, particularly in underprivileged areas. Though Farmer’s humanitarian accomplishments are extraordinary in and of themselves, the true charm of this book comes from Kidder’s personal relationship with him — and the sense of fulfillment the reader sustains from reading about someone genuinely heroic, written by someone else who truly understands and admires what they do.

17. Napoleon: A Life by Andrew Roberts

Here’s another bio that will reshape your views of a famed historical tyrant, though this time in a surprisingly favorable light. Decorated scholar Andrew Roberts delves into the life of Napoleon Bonaparte, from his near-flawless military instincts to his complex and confusing relationship with his wife. But Roberts’ attitude toward his subject is what really makes this work shine: rather than ridiculing him ( as it would undoubtedly be easy to do ), he approaches the “petty tyrant” with a healthy amount of deference.

18. The Passage of Power: The Years of Lyndon Johnson IV by Robert A. Caro

Lyndon Johnson might not seem as intriguing or scandalous as figures like Kennedy, Nixon, or W. Bush. But in this expertly woven biography, Robert Caro lays out the long, winding road of his political career, and it’s full of twists you wouldn’t expect. Johnson himself was a surprisingly cunning figure, gradually maneuvering his way closer and closer to power. Finally, in 1963, he got his greatest wish — but at what cost? Fans of Adam McKay’s Vice , this is the book for you.

19. Prairie Fires: The American Dreams of Laura Ingalls Wilder by Caroline Fraser

Anyone who grew up reading Little House on the Prairie will surely be fascinated by this tell-all biography of Laura Ingalls Wilder. Caroline Fraser draws upon never-before-published historical resources to create a lush study of the author’s life — not in the gently narrated manner of the Little House series, but in raw and startling truths about her upbringing, marriage, and volatile relationship with her daughter (and alleged ghostwriter) Rose Wilder Lane.

20. Prince: A Private View by Afshin Shahidi

Compiled just after the superstar’s untimely death in 2016, this intimate snapshot of Prince’s life is actually a largely visual work — Shahidi served as his private photographer from the early 2000s until his passing. And whatever they say about pictures being worth a thousand words, Shahidi’s are worth more still: Prince’s incredible vibrance, contagious excitement, and altogether singular personality come through in every shot.

21. Radioactive: Marie & Pierre Curie: A Tale of Love and Fallout by Lauren Redniss

Could there be a more fitting title for a book about the husband-wife team who discovered radioactivity? What you may not know is that these nuclear pioneers also had a fascinating personal history. Marie Sklodowska met Pierre Curie when she came to work in his lab in 1891, and just a few years later they were married. Their passion for each other bled into their passion for their work, and vice-versa — and in almost no time at all, they were on their way to their first of their Nobel Prizes.

22. Rosemary: The Hidden Kennedy Daughter by Kate Clifford Larson

She may not have been assassinated or killed in a mysterious plane crash, but Rosemary Kennedy’s fate is in many ways the worst of “the Kennedy Curse.” As if a botched lobotomy that left her almost completely incapacitated weren’t enough, her parents then hid her away from society, almost never to be seen again. Yet in this new biography, penned by devoted Kennedy scholar Kate Larson, the full truth of Rosemary’s post-lobotomy life is at last revealed.

23. Savage Beauty: The Life of Edna St. Vincent Millay by Nancy Milford

This appropriately lyrical biography of brilliant Jazz Age poet and renowned feminist, Edna St. Vincent Millay, is indeed a perfect balance of savage and beautiful. While Millay’s poetic work was delicate and subtle, the woman herself was feisty and unpredictable, harboring unusual and occasionally destructive habits that Milford fervently explores.

24. Shelley: The Pursuit by Richard Holmes

Holmes’ famous philosophy of “biography as pursuit” is thoroughly proven here in his first full-length biographical work. Shelley: The Pursuit details an almost feverish tracking of Percy Shelley as a dark and cutting figure in the Romantic period — reforming many previous historical conceptions about him through Holmes’ compelling and resolute writing.

25. Shirley Jackson: A Rather Haunted Life by Ruth Franklin

Another Gothic figure has been made newly known through this work, detailing the life of prolific horror and mystery writer Shirley Jackson. Author Ruth Franklin digs deep into the existence of the reclusive and mysterious Jackson, drawing penetrating comparisons between the true events of her life and the dark nature of her fiction.

26. The Stranger in the Woods: The Extraordinary Story of the Last True Hermit by Michael Finkel

Fans of Into the Wild and The Lost City of Z will find their next adventure fix in this 2017 book about Christopher Knight, a man who lived by himself in the Maine woods for almost thirty years. The tale of this so-called “last true hermit” will captivate readers who have always fantasized about escaping society, with vivid descriptions of Knight’s rural setup, his carefully calculated moves and how he managed to survive the deadly cold of the Maine winters.

27. Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson

The man, the myth, the legend: Steve Jobs, co-founder and CEO of Apple, is properly immortalized in Isaacson’s masterful biography. It divulges the details of Jobs’ little-known childhood and tracks his fateful path from garage engineer to leader of one of the largest tech companies in the world — not to mention his formative role in other legendary companies like Pixar, and indeed within the Silicon Valley ecosystem as a whole.

28. Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand

Olympic runner Louis Zamperini was just twenty-six when his US Army bomber crashed and burned in the Pacific, leaving him and two other men afloat on a raft for forty-seven days — only to be captured by the Japanese Navy and tortured as a POW for the next two and a half years. In this gripping biography, Laura Hillenbrand tracks Zamperini’s story from beginning to end… including how he embraced Christian evangelism as a means of recovery, and even came to forgive his tormentors in his later years.

29. Vera (Mrs. Vladimir Nabokov) by Stacy Schiff

Everyone knows of Vladimir Nabokov — but what about his wife, Vera, whom he called “the best-humored woman I have ever known”? According to Schiff, she was a genius in her own right, supporting Vladimir not only as his partner, but also as his all-around editor and translator. And she kept up that trademark humor throughout it all, inspiring her husband’s work and injecting some of her own creative flair into it along the way.

30. Will in the World: How Shakespeare Became Shakespeare by Stephen Greenblatt

William Shakespeare is a notoriously slippery historical figure — no one really knows when he was born, what he looked like, or how many plays he wrote. But that didn’t stop Stephen Greenblatt, who in 2004 turned out this magnificently detailed biography of the Bard: a series of imaginative reenactments of his writing process, and insights on how the social and political ideals of the time would have influenced him. Indeed, no one exists in a vacuum, not even Shakespeare — hence the conscious depiction of him in this book as a “will in the world,” rather than an isolated writer shut up in his own musty study.

The 8 Defining Characteristics of a Best Friend

Everyone with a bestie will recognize these ever-important traits of what it means to be a true friend..

example of biography about best friend

Your best friend has your back - literally! (StratfordProductions / Shutterstock.com)

Who would we be without our friends? From an early age, friends teach us the ropes, giving us the building blocks to learn how to give, love and face life’s ups and downs. The United Nations recognizes the importance of friendship and proclaimed July 30 as International Friendship Day, highlighting friendships as a way to bridge differences and bring about more peace in the world. Take a moment to celebrate your friends both near and far by exploring the eight defining characteristics of what being and having a best friend really means.

1. TELEPATHY

Your best friend has the uncanny ability to read your mind before the words pop out of your mouth. Just by exchanging a glance, you both know exactly what the other is thinking.

Whether you have a piece of broccoli stuck in your teeth or you are about to embark on a major life decision, your best friend is there to give you their real opinion. While sometimes it can seem a bit harsh or they may even disagree with your choices, your best friend won't hide their views – especially if they think it's in your best interest.

Rolling on the floor laughing till your stomach hurts doesn't happen with just anyone. Best friends know exactly what will trigger a belly-aching laugh, and between the personal jokes and shared experiences, your bestie knows how to tickle your funny bone.

Your best friend can actually feel what you are going through - because they have been there before. Or, they simply relate to you on such a deep level that they can profoundly understand what you are experiencing.

5. GENEROSITY

Giving is something that comes naturally between best friends, with each person willing to share what they have with the other. A true friendship has boundaries, but abundance is key. No tabs are kept on who gives and who receives, creating a flow of sharing and caring between you both.

Secrets, fears and deep thoughts are just some of the things you freely share with your best friend - because you know that what you say remains in the vault. Your best friend would never use your private information against you or to hurt you in any way.

7. ENCOURAGEMENT

Your bestie thinks that you are awesome and is there to give you a boost when you are feeling low. As your personal cheerleader, your best friend reminds you of how many great things you have to offer the world, always focusing on your positive attributes that make you shine.

8. STEADFASTNESS

Your best friend has your back! No matter the situation, you know that when you need your friend to be there for you, they are present without fail. As James Taylor and Carole King sing:  You just call out my name And you know wherever I am I'll come running to see you again Winter, spring, summer or fall All you have to do is call And I'll be there Yes I will You've got a friend

46 Bumble BFF Bio Examples To Meet A ‘Friend’ For Life

Last updated on February 4th, 2024 at 04:46 am

If you’re seeking ‘just’ friendship, not a relationship or date, Bumble BFF is for you.

All you need to do is, to be honest with your interest and mention it clearly on your profile.

You want to create a bio that gives off ‘Bromance’ or ‘Homance’ vibes, right?

So, for better ideas about how to make a ‘friendlier’ profile, to find a ‘bestie’ or ‘casual friend’, we’ve prepared the best Bumble BFF bio examples for you.

Why Do You Want To Use ‘Bumble BFF’?

Well, Bumble is a dating platform similar to many other apps.

And not just for dating, bumble is also more popular for finding friends.

As time goes by, it gets quite difficult to make new friends.

Since you’ve been so busy with your career, family, and life in general.

Usually, this period follows the end of high school or college.

If that’s you, or if you’re not ready for a relationship right now but want to make new friends, you should turn the Bumble BFF mode ON.

It’s a great feature for finding friends either for a casual meetup or lifelong connection.

Why to use Bumble BFF

Facing trouble completing your bumble profile for dates? Follow these Bumble bio ideas for men to get creative ideas.

What To Put In Your Bumble BFF Bio?

To start, decide what type of connection you want to make on Bumble.

You may be seeking someone to hang out with just on weekends, someone who shares your interests and hobbies, a new best friend, or someone for casual friendship.

Further, you create your profile based on the type of connection you wish to make.

There’s no need to write whatever is on your mind under ‘About you’.

It is important to tailor your profile based on your dating objective.

By doing so, you increase your chances of being noticed by potential friends.

The challenge of what to put in your bumble bio for girls goes the same for guys, too.

The fact is, there are many things you can add to your profile besides your images.

Such as your personality, interests, hobbies, likes, dislikes, work, priorities, and all.

Of course, your profile is mostly ‘about you’.

But how you introduce yourself is a deal breaker whether it’s for friendship or a relationship.

If you don’t know how to present yourself on Bumble BFF or craft your ‘About me’ in a way that brings new friends into your life, follow the examples provided.

Have these only the best answers for what are you looking for on bumble to get your match’s attention.

Good Bumble Bios To Make Friends (Who Are Relateable)

When you want to make some good friends and improve your connection, you don’t have to think so hard for perfect bios.

The given examples for Bumble BFF for friends, help you present yourself honestly and confidently with who you are and what you want.

Good Bumble Bio for Friends

1. I’m looking for someone to join me on a long drive. Well, you must be a fan of pop songs, if you’re not… you have to listen to them without any choice.

2. Here on bumble, more interested in friendship than in relationships. That’s not because I’m not ready. But I’m already married.

Emotional Letters To Best Friend

Thank you for sticking by me, getting to know my life, showing me the most sincere support and unconditional love. I couldn’t thank you enough for the countless amount of times that you have stuck by me when I needed you. I have no idea what I’d do without you sometimes… or all of the time. And I am so happy that I don’t ever have to find out. I love you!

I never believed in soulmates before I met you. Our connection is so deep that I know it must have been forged from above. You are my best friend, my closest confidant, and my platonic soulmate. I am forever grateful to the universe for ensuring we would be friends.

Thank you for being by my side through tough times, for accepting me for who I am, and for never asking for anything in return. Without your support, I wouldn’t have been able to get out of my negative thoughts. You have never judged me for my flaws, and I’m so thankful for that. I hope to do the same for you and make you proud. Thank you for being my best friend.

Thank you for everything. No words could ever describe how eternally grateful I am for you and our friendship, but I can promise I’ll always keep trying my best to let you know how much I love you. I know our relationship is one that will last a lifetime. You are my person, forever and always. Hubert H. Humphrey famously said, “The greatest gift of life is friendship, and I have received it.” Thanks to you, I have too.

letter to best friend

One of the biggest blessings has been finding a best friend like you. Your friendship has been the biggest gift you could ever give me. Your compassion, kindness, simplicity, gracefulness, and beauty – I am in awe. You give me strength when I break down. You lift me and give me confidence. You have loved me at my lowest and cheered me on at my highest. I love you for that, thank you.

As you already know, I am not the best at expressing my feelings. But since it’s your birthday, I wanted to write you a letter because you deserve the most extraordinary things in life. You are a beautiful soul, kind and sweet, who always thinks of others before herself. Your selflessness and innocence inspire me to become a better person every day. If Spring were a person, it would be you. I don’t know what I would do without you. Thank you for having my back, for accepting me the way I am, for never sugar-coating your words, and for loving me. I promise I will do the same.

Thank you for being the most wonderful best friend anyone could ever ask for. I promise to support and cheer for you in every way possible. Let’s stay together forever!

You’re all that you need. Because you are so much stronger than you have even begun to realize. You’re honest and caring. You’re hilarious and intelligent. You’re strong and compassionate. You’re beautiful, and you’re powerful.

With you by my side, the world is a better place. The sun shines a little brighter, my smile expands a little bit broader, and also, at that moment, my issues disappear. You are one of the most beautiful individuals, inside and out. You are generous, caring as well as smart beyond your years. Your selfless love and kind soul make me love you more each day. Thank you for looking out for me when no one else did.

From the first time we met, there was something between us that is almost indescribable. I know that you will always be a part of my life, and I am so thankful for the bond we share. I am grateful for you and everything we have experienced together.

I respect you. I admire you. I’ll always be here for you to vent to or troubleshoot with. And I’ll always be here to lift you up and remind you just how amazing you really are.

We have survived through some difficult times together, supporting and inspiring each other every time we were about to give up. I wish we can continue being each other’s biggest supporters for the rest of our lives. I love you so much, and you are the most amazing best friend I could ever ask for.

Thank you for being there with me through all seasons of life – whether it’s the ups, the downs, the beautiful or the ugly. Thank you for loving me and giving me support no matter what I’m going through and for being happy when I’m happy, and sad when I’m sad.

I wrote my letter for you and sent it to you. It is deep. I couldn’t help but cry a little bit when I read it. My heart was happy at the same time, sad. I am serious. I have a lump in my throat just thinking about it now! You will never know how much you mean to me and how much your friendship means to me. I love you, my dear!

You have always been there for me. I know I can count on you no matter what I need. Whether I ask for a cup of sugar or a shoulder to lean on, you are my rock. Thank you for being there for me.

A little birdie told me that you are having a rough day, so I am here to cheer you up. I know these tough times are hard to deal with, but you are a strong, kind, and magnificent person, capable of winning against all odds. Don’t forget to take care of yourself and focus on your well-being. Others’ opinions and nasty comments don’t matter because you are talented and fabulous in your way. And I am here for you always, so don’t bottle up your feelings when you have me to rant to. I may not have all the answers, but I will bring ice cream, cookies, and a shoulder to cry on.

We’ve been together, and we’ve been apart. There have been miles between us and even hours in some cases, but we’ve always stayed friends. No matter what obstacles have been thrown in our path or how many other people have tried to tear our friendship in two, we’ve stood the test of time. Most people aren’t lucky enough to have such a strong friendship in their lifetimes, but I know how lucky I am to call you my best friend.

I just want you to know that I think you deserve the world. You are one of the kindest, most caring people I have ever met. You give of yourself without expecting anything in return. I hope you recognize how amazing you are.

When I look back at all these years that we have spent together and how we met, I start believing in fate. We, becoming best friends, had to be the magic of destiny. No one understands me as well as you do. You can catch the slightest changes in my mood, and I honestly feel you can read my mind. An incredible person, inside and out, you have given me the most significant life lessons that have made me the person I am today.

Your friend is one of the most significant people in your life and missing you my friend messages help you express the sentiments you feel.

Letters To Best Friend To Make Her Cry

Thank you for showing me what love is. There’s something unique about a friendship bond that cannot be found in any other relationship. You have taught me what it means to be a loving friend and what it means to receive love, even if sometimes I feel like I don’t deserve it. You’ve loved me when I don’t have the strength to love myself.

I feel so blessed to have a friend like you. I never thought angels could exist in this world, but here you are in the flesh. Your friendship is so precious to me that I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world, not even a million bucks! I wouldn’t trade it for a chance at becoming famous or for an all-expenses-paid trip anywhere. I’d rather be poor, untraveled, and unknown than be without a friendship as wonderful as yours.

Do you know that you are the one person in this world who I turn to when times are rough? I know you will always support me. When the world is crashing around me, you’ll be there to build me back up again. Thank you for your friendship and love.

I don’t think I tell you enough about how much you mean to me. You have seen me in my worst times, and yet here you are, protecting and loving me every single day. You are my safe space, where I feel accepted and comfortable, even when my life falls apart. As someone who has only ever been in toxic relationships, you showed me what wonders a healthy relationship could do to a person. Today, I get the strength to live each day happily because of you. You are my rock, and I hope I make you as proud as I am of you.

I’ve known you for a decade. We’ve seen a lot of changes. Relationships come and go, and so do success and failures. I’m so glad we’ve been together the whole time. I love and respect you so much. You are sweet, kind, loyal, and fun to be around. You deserve the best in life! I hope this is also the best year ever!

Everyone looks when you walk into the room. Your smile, laugh, and the way you carry yourself give every environment a sudden lift. I love that you are my best friend, so I can share in your radiant glow.

Has anyone told you what a charming person you are? You are funny and sweet, and every time you walk into a room, all heads turn your way. You have a magnetic quality to you that makes everyone love you. Your strength and passion always inspire me to do better, and your joy in life makes me want to live life to the fullest. We have so many exciting memories together, and I hope you are willing to make many more.

Thank you for being the ones I can always count on. Whether it’s bigger things like making sure I have the best birthday party ever or smaller things like always giving a shoulder to lean on and a hand to hold when life gets tough, you’re there by my side no matter what.

letter to best friend make cry

One of the most incredible things about you is that you don’t have to try to be so amazing. It’s just the way you are built. While the rest of us try to be half the friend you are, you naturally come by your friendliness and generosity.

Pardon me for being embarrassing, but you are the sun to my moon, the yin to my yang, the Sherlock to my Watson, and every other iconic pop culture power couple. You are brilliant, hilarious, stunning, and the apple of my eye. Every moment spent with you is perfect, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

They usually wish a happy birthday or a happy new year, but I want to wish you a happy day. Because you can turn each new day into an unforgettable holiday, it’s up to us. Good morning to the best of the best!

I don’t know what I’d do if I ever lost you. You are such a huge part of my life and the best friend anyone could have. You always make me laugh and smile. I wish nothing but the best for you and know we will be friends forever.

You don’t just see the glass as half full; you see the potential for the rest of the glass. Your optimism is refreshing, beautiful, and contagious. Thank you for sharing your positive attitude with me.

I want to thank you for taking the time to hear me out. You have no idea how much that means to me. I know the misunderstanding has caused you a lot of pain, and I am to blame for it. Thank you for being so forgiving, even though I don’t think I deserve it. I promise not to disappoint you again.

I would have given you a concert ticket or a car because that’s what you wished, but I only have a heart that can love you until the end. And this sweater I bought because you will look good in it.

Certain things happen in a certain way at a certain time and place for a certain reason. And sometimes, God brings certain people into our lives for a purpose, but whatever reasons He had in mind for making our paths cross and bringing us together, I don’t really care because I’m honored and grateful that He did. I love you always, my dearest friend.

cute letter to best friend

You are amazing. You are thoughtful, kind, funny, smart, and all of the things that make the perfect best friends. I know there is no way I deserve you, but I am glad you haven’t realized that yet! Hopefully, you never will.

I know I don’t say this enough but thank you for being you. You are the greatest friend I could ever ask for, and I feel God has sent you to me as my guardian angel. You always listen to my problems and try to help me in every way possible. You are always open-minded and accepting and never judge me for being the way I am. No one else can understand me the way you do, and I am so fortunate to have you in my life. Friendships like these come once in a lifetime, and I promise to cherish you forever.

Your relationship with your best friends is one of the best you’ll ever have in your life and thank you for all you do messages will show them just how grateful you are for their endless love and support.

Letters To Best Friend To Make Them Laugh

If I could take all your pain away and ease all your worry, I would. You have no idea how lucky you are to have a friend like me. No matter what, I would always be there for you.

There will never be another girl in the whole world that can compare to you, my best friend. I couldn’t imagine my life without you. I love you. My heart and soul, and everything we’ve been through make me sure of that fact. You are a fantastic person, and I cannot imagine a single thing that could make me love you any less than I do right now.

You have always been the brightest part of my life. I miss seeing you and feeling your warmth of spirit. I can’t wait to see you again so you can shine some of your light on me.

There’s so much we need to talk about. I need to show you all the new restaurants that have opened up in the area, and you need to tell me everything about your new place. You must have met many new people there, but you are not allowed to forget me, okay? I am your soul partner, and your parents love me, so there’s no way anyone can take my place.

You will always be the friend I can go to with anything—at any time. You will always make me laugh the hardest. No matter how long it’s been since we’ve spoken on the phone or how many days have passed since we’ve texted or how many months it’s been since I’ve gotten a real-life in-person hug—our friendship will always be strong, loyal, and most important—real.

Thank you for making me a better person. I know that I have become a kinder, smarter and overall happier person since meeting you. I think throughout our friendship we have learned a lot from each other. You are the Meredith Grey to my Christina Yang…we are our best when we’re together.

You fill my life with an immense amount of happiness and love. I know that wherever life takes us, you will be part of my life. If we don’t talk for some time, we pick up right where we left off. Whenever I need you, I know you will always be there.

letter to best friend make smile

Words will never be enough to express how blessed I am to have a caring and loving friend like you in my life. I bless the day our paths crossed, and I will always be grateful every day for the gift of a lovely friend like you in my life. I love you more than you know.

You have actually influenced me to be a better person. I wish that I can somehow repay you for everything you have provided for me. Without you, I would be a completely different person. Thanks to you, I truly understand what love and true friendship are.

Do you remember how many times we laughed until we cried? Sometimes, I miss those days so much that I cry until I start laughing at the irony of it all. I hope we can relive some of those best-friend moments again soon!

I’m so happy that you found me because my life without you is incomplete, just as my world without you is unimaginable. The bond between us is verbally indescribable, just as the happiness and joy that comes with you and your friendship are priceless and boundless. I love you more than you know.

You’re an amazing personality with a good head on your shoulders. I’m super proud of all the stellar qualities that make up your admirable self. I’m proud to be associated with you. You are my best friend, and I love you dearly.

Dear best friend, I love you so much. You’ve done so much for us and been there for me on those rough days. I appreciate everything you’ve done for me. You are a wonderful person and deserve the best. Never change your personality because it’s what makes you who you are. You’re the nicest girl I know, and I will always consider myself lucky to call you my best friend.

The unconditional love for a best friend is so rare that most people can’t believe it could be real. I know it is real because I feel unconditional love from you and for you. For the rest of my life, you will always be one of my favorite people.

Thank you for entering my life. I strongly believe in having “a person,” and there is no better person to fit that description than you. For the last two years of my life, I have been through so many different stages, like graduating, falling out with friends, a new school, and through all of the good and bad times, you have been with me. I couldn’t thank you enough for that.

Whenever I miss you, and I always do, I only need to look up at the moon and remember our late-night chats out on the rooftop. Thank you for always being there for me when I needed you the most. I feel lucky to have a friend like you.

Throughout all the years that I have known you, you have never let me down. You have guided me, supported me, laughed, and cried with me. Being your best friend is the best thing that could have ever happened to me.

Through thick and thin, you’ve always been there for me; you’ve always got my back, and I’m glad to call you my best friend forever. You’re the cutest thing ever, and I want you to know that I’m blessed to have someone as special as you are in my life. Thanks for being real. I love you beyond the stars, my good friend.

I am writing this message to her to express the deepest feelings of my heart. I know what you think about friendship, but in fact, only a few people are lucky enough to get a true friend such as you.

The 13 Essential Traits of Good Friends

These are the keys to maintaining long-term connections..

Posted March 23, 2015 | Reviewed by Lybi Ma

  • Essential friendship traits fall into three general categories, each representing a critical aspect of relational behavior.
  • Everyone brings a different level of the 13 essential traits to their relationships.
  • Trustworthiness is often the “make or break” element in any interpersonal relationship.

Some people have an easier time establishing and maintaining friendships than others. And some of us long for closer friendships or try to figure out why an existing or promising relationship fizzled out. In these cases, we may jump first to judge a friend’s behavior, rather than our own. Perhaps we forget that relationships rely on mutual interactions. It is important, them, to examine our own contribution to the dynamics of a friendship . It is only our own behavior that we can change, and there are certain personal characteristics it's essential to cultivate to build healthy, lasting friendships.

The 13 Essential Friendship Traits

How much do you agree with each statement?

  • I am trustworthy.
  • I am honest with others.
  • I am generally very dependable.
  • I am loyal to the people I care about.
  • I am easily able to trust others.
  • I experience and express empathy for others.
  • I am able to be non-judgmental.
  • I am a good listener.
  • I am supportive of others in their good times.
  • I am supportive of others in their bad times.
  • I am self-confident.
  • I am usually able to see the humor in life.
  • I am fun to be around.

These traits fall into three general categories, each representing an essential aspect of relational behavior. If you find that you disagree with many of the statements, you may struggle to develop meaningful, lasting friendships.

Below is a description of how each trait influences relationships, organized by the realm of behavioral expectations in which it falls:

Traits of Integrity

These qualities, represented by the first five traits on the list above, are related to core values held by most cultures—trustworthiness, honesty, dependability, loyalty, and, as an interrelated quality, the ability to trust others.

  • Trustworthiness is often the “make or break” element in any interpersonal relationship. Any breach, regardless of perceived magnitude, can devastate a relationship. Trustworthiness is comprised of several components, including honesty, dependability, and loyalty, and while each is important to successful relationships, honesty and dependability have been identified as the most vital in the realm of friendships.
  • Honesty requires that we speak openly from the heart and incorporate objectivity into our words.
  • Being dependable means that friends can count on you to be there when you say you will, to do what you say you will, and to be willing to stand up for friends, especially when they can’t stand up for themselves. If you are as likely to let friends down as come through for them, the relationship often becomes superficial, less engaging, and even resentment-provoking, if it doesn’t end altogether.
  • Loyalty is valued early on in all of our relationships, from the time we make our first friendships. We need friends who won’t spill our secrets to others, gossip about us, or allow others to criticize us.
  • Being able to trust another person involves being comfortable with vulnerability. If you have difficulty sharing your authentic self with a friend, it is doubtful your friend will be easily willing to do this for you.

Traits of Caring

These qualities, represented by the traits listed as numbers 6 to 10 above, include empathy, the ability to withhold judgment, effective listening skills, and the ability to offer support in good times and bad. These traits require personal insight, self-discipline, and unconditional positive regard for our friends.

  • Empathy is the ability to understand what is going on with a friend, to recognize how he or she is feeling, and to interact and respond accordingly.
  • The ability to be non-judgmental reflects our ease in accepting a friend’s choices, regardless of how they may differ from our own.
  • Good listening skills are essential to allow the communicating of intimate thoughts, feelings, and experiences. This sharing is a gradual process of give-and-take that deepens over time.
  • Being supportive of others in their bad times is a defining quality of a good friend, but being supportive of others in their good times is also essential. The saying goes, “Everybody loves a winner,” but for some of us, this just isn’t so. If you have trouble celebrating another’s good fortune and experience envy or even bitterness, this may limit the depth of your friendships.

Traits of Congeniality

This group, representing by the final three traits listed above, includes self-confidence , the ability to see the humor in life, and being fun to be around. This trio of traits has also been associated with overall well-being and happiness in life.

  • Self-confidence is an appealing characteristic in any friend, and may even be contagious. When we are in the company of self-confident individuals, we typically feel our own confidence rise.
  • People who are fun to be around are better company than friends who walk around with a dark cloud hanging over their heads. The former enjoy life, handle challenges in proactive ways, and keep negative experiences in perspective.
  • People who have the ability to see the humor in life help us deal with the curveballs (or spitballs) life tosses at us. We all benefit from friends who are able to keep us from taking life too seriously.

Before You Can Increase Your Friendship Quotient, You Must Admit That the Need Exists

Remember: Everyone brings a different level of the 13 traits to their relationships. However, the very best friends offer a generous helping of this baker’s dozen. Take an honest look at your own behaviors and see if you need to raise your "friendship quotient" to raise the likelihood of maintaining the close connections you desire.

Did your best friend ever ask you, “Will you do the eulogy for my funeral?” Or sadly, maybe you have to imagine how that conversation would have gone because your friend has already died.

Jump ahead to these sections:

Step 1: ask about parameters, step 2: don’t procrastinate, step 3: create a soothing workspace, step 4: have a brainstorming session, step 5: keep audience and tone in mind, step 6: put a personal touch on your eulogy, step 7: practice, practice, practice, example eulogies for a best friend.

Whether you and your friend actually got to have that conversation, you may now be faced with your friend’s celebration of life or church ceremony (in just days!) — and you’ve never spoken at a funeral before.

Don’t skid to a halt because you’ve never thought about how to write a eulogy . Here, we’ll break down the steps you can take to craft a special eulogy for your best friend. We’ll also share some short eulogy examples to inspire you.

Eulogies can vary in length and depend on a number of factors. Overall, keeping them between three and five minutes is generally considered good funeral etiquette .

Be sure to confirm that with the funeral director or with the family member coordinating the service. Family members may ask you to keep yours shorter if several people are giving eulogies. Understand the guidelines to help guide you.

Dealing with the death of your best friend is deeply emotional and traumatic. It may be difficult to gather the strength to sit down and write a tribute. But the longer you put it off, the more pressure you’ll end up putting on yourself. You’ll likely only have a few days to prepare a eulogy, so putting it off even by one day can put you in an enormous time crunch.

The good news is that the act of writing a eulogy can be very cathartic. Revisiting positive memories of your friend can bring you peace and comfort during this dark time.

Even under the best of circumstances, writing can be difficult. Most writers have to take the time to set up a workspace that inspires their creativity. This is especially important when writing something as personal and emotional as a eulogy. Here are some specific areas you can pay attention to:

  • Lighting: Some people do their best writing with natural daylight streaming through the curtains. Others prefer writing in a warm, cozily-lit atmosphere. Pick the lighting that you think will most inspire you.
  • Create background noise (or get rid of it entirely): Some people enjoy listening to music while they write. Others like having the TV on low volume. Others require absolute silence. Figure out what works best for you.
  • Declutter your workspace: It can be difficult to focus on writing when you’re feeling stressed out. A messy work area can create anxiety. Clearing it off can serve as a metaphorical wiping of the slate to help clear chaos from your mind.

Authors don’t write books sprung, fully-formed, from their minds. They often write multiple drafts that go through different stages of editing. A eulogy is no different. Odds are, you won’t be able to write a flawless eulogy on your first attempt.

Instead, start by brainstorming what you might want to include in your eulogy. Jot down certain stories that encapsulate the spirit and personality of your best friend. Once you’ve done that, put together an outline. Then, when it’s time to actually begin writing, you’ll set yourself up for success.

Not all end-of-life services are created equal. A eulogy for a funeral may be a lot more somber in tone than a eulogy at a celebration of life service. There’s nothing inherently wrong about injecting a eulogy with a little bit of humor. But it shouldn’t be a stand-up comedy routine.

Conversely, you also want to avoid emotions that are intensely negative. If you’re sad or even angry about the death of your friend, try not to let that overpower your eulogy. A eulogy should celebrate a person’s life — you don’t want it to make people feel even more devastated.

When a friend is asked to give a eulogy, it’s because the family values your relationship with the deceased. They also likely value your perspective. They know you’ll be able to share stories about the deceased that most other people don’t know.

Fill your eulogy with personalized details about your best friend. Try to choose stories that highlight your friend’s personality, which will keep your eulogy from being too generic. People will appreciate the specificity you can bring.

As we stated earlier, a eulogy is typically expected to be between three and five minutes long. It’s important to practice ahead of time so you can make sure your eulogy is clocking in at the correct time.

Reading it in your head isn’t enough. You need to read it out loud to make sure you’re speaking at the right speed. Most people speak too quickly when they get nervous. When you read it out loud, you can also mark any places where you may need to pause for a breath or a sip of water. Run through it enough times that you feel very comfortable delivering in front of a room full of people.

Don’t worry about memorizing it, though. No matter how well you know it, it’s always best to have a printed copy of your eulogy. Nerves and grief might throw you off course.

Now that we’ve broken down how to write a eulogy, we’d like to share some examples of eulogies written for a close friend. These may help inspire you as you write your own. Remember to draw on your personal shared experiences with the deceased. This will help your eulogy resonate.

Example for a best friend

“I was a military brat growing up. I bounced around from city to city. I went to a new school almost every year. After a while, I kind of gave up on making friends. I didn’t see the point when I would just have to leave them behind.

"I met Tyler in 7th grade. He was warm and welcoming, but I ignored his attempts to befriend me. Finally, I told him he shouldn’t waste his time because I’d just be leaving soon. He said, ‘So what? Even if you move away, we can still be friends.’ And from that day forward, we were. When I left again, we stayed in touch through the internet. When I got a cellphone, he was the first person I texted. I hope he knows that even though he’s no longer with us, he’s still my best friend. He always believed that no distance between us was too far for our friendship. Now I believe it, too.”

Example for a best friend and sibling

“Growing up, I always used to hear my friends complain about their annoying little sisters or overbearing older brothers. I never understood how people could dislike their siblings so much. Vanessa was always more than a sister to me; she was my best friend.

"When I had problems at school, she had my back. When I needed advice, she always had thoughtful things to say. When I was feeling down, she knew just what to say to cheer me up. I couldn’t have asked for a more loving or supportive sister or friend.”

Example for a best friend from childhood

“Eric and I grew up next door to one another. In fact, our bedroom windows faced each other. We took that opportunity to treat every night like a slumber party. We taught ourselves Morse code and used flashlights to send each other messages.

"When I got a pair of walkie-talkies for Christmas, I immediately gave one to Eric so we could talk to each other after lights out. When we realized we were going to the same college, we immediately decided to room together. After all, we’d felt like we’d been sharing a room for practically our entire lives. Eric was more than a best friend; he was like the brother I never had.”

Example for a best friend who died young

“It’s been a year now since we lost Rebecca. Not a day has gone by where she hasn’t been sorely missed. However, I feel like she’s with me in everything I do. It would be easy for me to be bitter about all the things she didn’t get to experience. On my bad days, I am angry that she was taken from us too soon. But as time has passed, I have found that it’s easier to hold her in my heart during every milestone. I believe that she’s sharing our experiences in some way.

"Our victories are her victories because we all carry a piece of her with us. She accomplished so much in her short time on earth. As long as we keep her memory alive, she’ll continue to be part of our own accomplishments.”

Write Your Best Friend’s Eulogy

Losing your best friend is an incredibly difficult thing to face. But giving a eulogy for a friend can be a great way to find solace and pay tribute to one of your most favorite people. It also gives you an opportunity to reflect on your friendship.
