Role of Music in Our Life Essay

Music is one of the greatest and most mysterious spheres of art, which is worth admiring. It is music that speaking to our heart makes people laughing and crying. Music is one of the strongest means of a persons inspiration and one of the most important part of our life.

It is obvious that like any other form of art music has its own language. Pictorial art speaks with us by means of paints, literature with the help of words, and music by virtue of magic sounds of various musical instruments. All the branches of art are tightly interconnected with each other serving the one goal – to bring up the sense of beauty and harmony in a person.

It goes without saying that every individual is talented in its own way. From early childhood, a person unconsciously tries to express oneself by means of art. Some child may be noticed in a process of painting, while another hums in a low tone his favourite song. It is of great importance to recognize a childs inclinations in order to develop them in a full manner in future.

True art forms an aesthetic sensibility and it is very important to instill in children love for beauty from the cradle. The development of creative potential, nice sense of beauty and possibility to notice something unusual are those factors that help artistic people in creation. The creative approach helps a person in his daily activity. Moreover, the admiration of beauty provides us with additional energy in overcoming difficulties.

Those people who have a sense of beauty are optimists and dreamers in a certain manner. As a rule, they possess qualities that are necessary to be successful in life. That is why it is of great importance to introduce children to the world of music, poetry, pictorial art and literature, because art promotes a childs pursuance of beauty and ideal.

It is also noticed that art education promotes the cognitive development of a child. As a rule those children who attend musical classes have better progress in education.

At the same time, children should not be forced to deal with activity to which they have no propensity. It is a task of parents to recognize a childs inclinations and abilities. There may be found numerous examples when a child who has been compelled to attend music lessons leaves his study, finding himself in another sphere of art. For instance a parent, impressed by a virtuoso guitar technique of his favorite musician, decides for himself to do his best in order his child to become a great guitar player, while his child has inclination for drawing.

There are also examples when a child with an obvious aptitude for music has no desire to attend music lessons. In such a case, motivation plays a very important role. There are many possibilities to cultivate love of art in a child. It is possible to visit an art museum or a concert of classic music. It does not matter if a child pays more attention to the mere process of visit than to an exhibition in itself. The key point of such a visit is to stimulate childish interest. The appreciation of masterpieces in a museum will be later.

While motivating interest for music many teachers pay much attention to concerts, in which a child is involved. They say that a feeling of anxiety before such a concert is changed with a sense of euphoria and satisfaction after a successful playing. This factor serves as a key point in motivation.

It is impossible to imagine our life without art or music. It creates a new world of thoughts, lofty sentiments and passions. It is art that makes us spiritually wealthy.

8 Reasons Why Music is Important in Our Society

essay on importance of music in our life

Music is everywhere and for a good reason. It connects us across cultures, brings back memories, and even gives us that extra push in the gym. From our ancestors humming tunes around fires to us jamming out on our daily commute, it’s clear that music is a big part of who we are.

Beyond just grooving to beats, music often acts as our emotional compass. Feeling down? There’s a song for that. Need some motivation for that gym session? There’s a playlist that’ll get you pumped. And those important life moments? Often, there’s a tune playing in the background, making memories even more special. Truly, music is a friend that speaks our language, no matter where we’re from.

1. Music Bridges Cultural and Linguistic Gaps

2. human history is rich with musical connections, 3. music offers both entertainment and art, 4. for many, music is a source of solace and relaxation, 5. music reflects the essence of culture, 6. significant life moments are often accompanied by music, 7. music invigorates and elevates physical workouts, 8. music enhances learning and cognitive processes, related posts:.

Music is often hailed as a universal language. Regardless of one’s geographical origins or linguistic capabilities, the essence of a song can be felt and appreciated. This transcendent quality of music allows it to communicate emotions, stories, and experiences without the constraint of words, forging connections between diverse cultures.

As noted by ethnomusicologist Bruno Nettl , “In many cultures, music is so embedded into the fabric of everyday life that it isn’t seen as a separate entity, but rather as a part of the flow of life.” This underscores the profound role music plays in bridging differences and highlighting shared human experiences.

From way back when to now, music has always been a big deal for us humans. Think about early humans chilling in caves – they didn’t have smartphones or TV, but they sure had music. They’d gather around fires, hum tunes, and play on basic instruments. This wasn’t just for fun; it was a way to bond and feel closer to each other.

Fast-forwarding a bit, wherever people went, they took their favorite beats and tunes with them. Steven Mithen , who’s done some deep digging into our musical past, believes that these early musical moments were crucial for human bonding and communication. Today, music remains a force that brings us together, no matter where we’re from.

Aside from its function of bringing people together, music is also used for entertainment and art purposes by some cultures. For example, a lot of modern music is composed in a very creative way and has some degree of artistic value.

Throughout history, music has served as a powerful medium for self-expression, offering individuals a resonant outlet to convey their feelings and experiences. Some songs are extremely personal and allow the singer/songwriter to get out feelings and thoughts that don’t have a simple way of being put into words.

Everyone gets stressed or anxious from time to time, even if it’s not about school or work pressure. Some individuals use music as a way to calm themselves down when they’re feeling this way. A lot of people listen to their favorite songs when they’re in bed or taking a shower, as it can help them relax.

People who like using music to relax tend to have it playing in the background much of the time whenever possible, so they can unwind every now and again during their daily activities.

Music is like a mirror that reflects the heartbeat of a culture. Take an American jamming to Indian tunes – beyond the beats and melodies, they’re getting a glimpse into India’s rich traditions, history, and spiritual practices. Often, songs from a place weave in stories, beliefs, and day-to-day experiences of its people, offering listeners insights into lives they might not be familiar with.

Similarly, within tighter communities or groups, a song can feel like an anthem that captures their shared spirit or identity. But it’s also good to remember that music is a vast universe with multiple interpretations. Just as a single story doesn’t define a culture, one song might have countless meanings depending on who’s listening.

Since songs can hold so much importance to people, they are often used as a way to commemorate moments in time. Whether it’s at a wedding, funeral or any other special occasion, music is always present and can help make the moment even more memorable.

Ever noticed how the right song can make you push a little harder in the gym? It’s not just in your head. Jamming to your favorite tracks can genuinely give you that extra boost during a workout. Many fitness trainers have caught onto this – that’s why they often have playlists ready to go.

Music helps match your body’s rhythm, making those crunches or sprints feel a bit more doable. According to a study by Costas Karageorghis , a leading researcher on music and exercise, the right tunes can elevate our mood and energy, making workouts more effective and enjoyable

You know those moments when you’re reading, and the right playlist seems to lock you in? It’s not all in your head. Some music, especially instrumental tracks, can help you concentrate and process info more effectively.

Apart from the well-known “Mozart Effect,” other studies back this up too. For instance, research by Särkämö and colleagues found that regular music listening can have a positive impact on cognitive functions.

Music is extremely beneficial to society.  It helps bring people together and has the unique ability to represent a culture as a whole. It can also be used as a way to relax and showcase the special moments in one’s life. In addition, it can even improve our workouts!

Importance of music in my life

Music is one of the most important and powerful things in my life. My life without melodies and harmonies would be totally empty. Listening to and playing different tunes helps me to de-stress, relax and it can also help to motivate me in trying times. I love listening to music while on my way to school, as I feel it helps me to prepare for the day that waits. I think it is like the memoirs to my life as it has been there throughout everything with me. When I was younger, I didn’t have the great love for musical as I do now. I mainly listened to whatever was playing in the background or what my parents were listening to. I didn’t have much of a care for musical compositions. There was sometimes a little bit of pop music thrown in to the mix here and there, but that’s really all I liked back then. Whether I was in the car, the house, or anywhere else there was sure to be some Beatles, Buddy Holly, or the Dubliners constantly playing somewhere in the background. At the time I didn’t care for that genre of music much, but now as I’m older, I enjoy it as it allows me to reminisce on memories from times of my childhood. Once I hit my teenage years music became my life and gradually started to inhibit my soul. I believe music has the ability to convey all sorts of emotion. Whether the emotion is joy and happiness or sadness and despair through rhythms, harmonies and the lyrics music shows it. The song “A little bit longer” by Nick Jonas is such an emotional and inspiring song that when I hear it, I always come close to tears, especially when I watch it being played live. The effect that music can have on our emotions is tremendous, as it can bring people to floods of tears or bursts of laughter. The musical images that music and song are able to create are amazing. Music has the ability to transport me back in time just like a time machine. It lets me revisit lost and forgotten moments in life. Songs can paint a picture, for example in classical and country music where a story is being told. The music in classical music tells a story without lyrics which is an immensely powerful thing. I feel that this applies to the saying “music imitates life and life imitates music”. Recently song writing has wandered its way into my life. I believe there is no better way to express myself than through song. After a bad day, it’s nice to be able to sit down and write about it. It can make all your problems just disappear and float away. Listening to other musical artists that I like gives me inspiration. My guitar teacher also points me in the right direction and gives me guidance as I need it. I love to just sit with my guitar and make up random lyrics about past experiences or what I’m going through at the moment. I started learning how to play the guitar last year and within the past few months I have fallen completely and utterly in love with it. Once I start playing, I find it extremely hard to put the guitar down again. It’s very addictive and can also be distracting sometimes. It distracts me from my homework since my guitar sits right next to my desk. Playing guitar is one of the only things in my life in which I don’t feel pressurized to do well in. I think this is because I have a great teacher and she doesn’t push me to the music exams. This past summer my grandma taught me how to play the piano. I had always heard stories about how my great grandfather, her father, was brilliant at the piano. He would sit at the piano for hours on end playing different well known songs as making up his own little tunes. He had taught my grandma how to play and I felt it was about time that I learnt. So when I was staying with my grandma and grandpa during the summer, I asked her to teach me. She was delighted to and now it’s something nice that we can both do together and bond over. I believe music effects people in many different ways. To me music is more than just something to listen to or play, it’s something to feel. Music is extremely important in my life. I think it brings me closer to my friends and family. I also feel that it helps me to get through things. For example, I remember doing the twenty six kilometre gaisce hike and the whole way along the hike we sang songs. Music is an immensely powerful thing and has a huge place in my life right next to my heart.

The amazing power of music in our lives, seven great reasons to incorporate music into your daily routine..

  • Music has mathematical structure, so your brain has to figure it out, making for a mental workout that creates and strengthens neural pathways.
  • Music can also benefit overall health by lowering blood pressure, pain, anxiety, and depression.
  • Music is good for children’s sense of well-being and especially beneficial to adolescent brain development.

When was the last time you thought about music, and what role does music play in your life? If you enjoy music every day, you are likely reaping many benefits. But if you merely think of music as the background noise at the grocery store, as part of annoying commercial jingles, or as what adolescents are addicted to, you’re missing out. Here are seven ways you can benefit from having music in your life.

1. Music gives your brain a good workout .

Music has a mathematical structure based on relationships between one note and the next, including patterns, sequences, and harmonies. You may not be aware of it, but your brain has to do a lot of computing to make sense of it. So, not surprisingly, listening to music can improve learning, memory , and mental alertness. It also boosts concentration and mindfulness , as listening, playing, or moving to music keeps you focused in the present moment and even puts you “in the zone” where you experience the blissful state of “flow.”

2. Music can boost overall health.

Research has shown that listening to music can reduce anxiety , blood pressure, and pain, as well as improve sleep quality, mood, well-being, and happiness . And especially when you’re moving to music, your brain gets washed in beneficial “feel-good” hormones , such as dopamine , serotonin, and endorphins. So not only does music potentially add more years to your life, it adds quality years.

3. Music connects you to your culture and connects people across cultures.

Music is a vital element of culture, and every culture has specific genres of music that are created, produced, and enjoyed by its people. In the U.S. alone, there are dozens of popular genres, including Afro-beat, bluegrass, classical, country, electronic, folk, hip hop/rap, jazz, Latin, pop, rhythm and blues, soul, rock, and theatrical. All of these types of music have different origins and are associated with different subcultures, but they can be enjoyed by anyone, leading to mutual cross-cultural appreciation and communication. Musical traditions are also woven into cultural celebrations—think about the music you associate with birthdays, adolescent rituals, graduations, weddings, funerals, and songs or chants that mark religious holidays, such as Hanukkah, Christmas, and Ramadan.

4. Music sets the mood.

Your music preference in the moment can depend on how you want to feel. You likely pick specific types of music depending on whether you’re looking to relax or exercise, trying to be productive, contemplative, or romantic, or traveling by foot or on wheels. The right music can boost your mood and your motivation to clean up, do homework, or work out. In contrast, you likely avoid music that makes you feel agitated, sad, or bored .

5. Music is especially good for children’s brains and brain development.

Children and teens can benefit enormously from listening, playing, and moving to music. Children who listen to more music than their peers have a higher sense of self-worth and less depression and anxiety. Music therapy in medical settings can lower stress in sick children and reduce the length of hospitalization.

In adolescence , music provides a satisfying creative outlet, and when identifying with the lyrics, teens acquire a comforting sense that someone understands them. Music also promotes the development of the prefrontal cortex, which improves decision-making and emotional regulation —both excellent benefits for teenagers.

6. Music evokes memories.

When children are exposed to music, they can have rich experiences that create positive memories. You, too, may associate certain genres of music with pleasant memories and enjoy listening to music from your past. Similarly, there’s a reason we sing our ABCs—setting information to music helps us remember it.

7. Music inspires dance.

When you synchronize your movement to music, different parts of your brain are alert, exercised, connected, and soothed. Dancing to music is even more powerful than simply listening because it involves more areas of the brain as well as the body. So take all the cognitive and health benefits of listening to music, and then add the dancing benefits of physical fitness, strength, balance, and coordination. In fact, dancing to music is so beneficial to the brain that dance classes are used therapeutically for people with Parkinson’s disease, a progressive neurological movement disorder. And because dance requires complex coordination to synchronize movement to music, dance is superior to other physical activities in reducing the risk of dementia .

essay on importance of music in our life

If you want a superior workout and rewards, learn how to partner dance. Coordinating movement to music with a partner—or even with a group of people—is a joyful, collaborative venture that strengthens multitudes of neural pathways as well as neural synchrony with others. And besides dopamine, serotonin, and endorphins, your brain also releases oxytocin , the social-emotional bonding chemical that boosts feelings of connection and contentment.

In fact, in this fast paced world, people are so busy that no one even bothers to listen to what the other person has to say. Holding on to thoughts and bottling up feelings is the worst a person can do to himself. Self expression is necessary and one of the best ways to do so is by way of music.

Why is Self Expression Important?

We are all dealing with something or the other. While we may be capable of handling our issues on our own; however, sharing our feelings and coping mechanism with others can help in lowering our stress to a large extent. It serves as a vent.

It also fetches support from those around us. Research shows that people who have someone to hear them out are happier compared to those who don’t. Those who keep their feelings to themselves often end up lonely and many even develop conditions such as anxiety and depression.

Music Can Help with Self Expression

You can write the lyrics of an existing song or a mix of different songs or even spin new lyrics. The idea always is to express yourself.

You don’t have to be a great musician or writer to do all this. Don’t worry about the outcome. Just follow the process and it will help in true expression of self. This is a way to liberate oneself and see things from a different perspective. Whether someone hears out your composition or not, you will feel liberated once you express it and vent it out by way of music.

The importance of self expression needs to be understood by everyone. Expressing self can be difficult for many but it is essential. Music definitely serves as a good medium for self expression.

The healing power of music.

Music is not just a source of entertainment but has an amazing power to heal. Music therapy has been declared as a therapy that can work wonders on people suffering from different kinds of mental as well as physical ailments. Many institutes run special music therapy sessions to help people get rid of conditions such as depression, anxiety, cardiovascular problem and insomnia. Music also forms a part of many other medical treatments.

Types of Music Therapy

Music therapy is broadly divided into two categories. These are as follows:

  • Active Music Therapy

In active music therapy, the participants (those receiving the therapy) create music using different musical instruments. They also write lyrics and sing songs. This includes working on new compositions or remixing the earlier ones. The idea is to shift the patient’s focus from his physical or mental condition to something positive. Creating music can be therapeutic. Since these are group activities, they help participants connect with each other and make new friends. This also helps in the healing process.

  • Receptive Music Therapy

During this type of music therapy session, the therapist plays musical instruments and sings songs. The participants sit quietly and listen to him. Many times soft healing music is played on a recorder and the participants enjoy it. This is often followed by a discussion between the participants and the therapist.

Both types of music therapy offer a calming effect on the patients. They work on different levels and help in healing various medical conditions. Most music therapists offer a mix of both these therapies to heal their patients. Many music therapy sessions also include dancing, clapping and chanting loudly. Clapping and Chanting fill the atmosphere with positive energy and render a soothing effect.

Impact of Music Therapy

The effects of music therapy have been astonishing. Research shows that patients who received music therapy as a part of their overall medical treatment recovered faster compared to those who only received other medication. It has largely been accepted that music can heal both physical and emotional pain.

More and more hospitals, clinics and rehabilitation centres have thus started incorporating music therapy as a part of many treatments. They also recommend people to inculcate the practice in their routine life even after they recover. This is because it boosts health and offers better quality of life. A music therapist or coach can help in this direction.

How Does Music Therapy Work?

These days, most of the physical as well as mental ailments stem from stress. Stress mostly occurs when a person fears about the upcoming events in his life or is unable to cope up with the bad experiences of the past. In today’s times, very few people are able to enjoy the moment they are living in. They continually fret about the future or regret their past.

Music helps in shifting the focus to the present moment. So, it helps in combating stress that arises from the fears that lie ahead and the guilt or resentment from the past events. The decrease in the stress level plays a vital part in the healing process. This is a great way to improve both mental and physical health.

Music therapy works for people of all age groups. It is an effective way to relax, combat stress and fight various illnesses. It is recommended for everyone whether he/she is suffering from some ailment or not.

Music helps in getting rid of negative thoughts and emotions. During our day we are faced with several situations that raise our stress levels. Small things such as getting stuck in a traffic jam, clash of opinion with friends/siblings/parents or even a piece of news read in the newspaper can cause stress. Music helps us unwind. It does not let our mind wander and thus helps us concentrate on what we are doing rather than thinking about something completely different. It also increases our attention span.

Music Creates Better Self Image

Music has the power to connect us with our inner self. It takes us to the deep recesses of our mind and helps us understand who we really are and our purpose in life. It also helps us find out our hidden strengths. Thus, it serves as a great means to create a better self image. This further helps in boosting our confidence level.

Music Helps Combat Fears

Each one of us is dealing with some fear or the other. While some are worried about their future others keep stressing about their past events. People also suffer from different kinds of fears such as fear of walking on a busy road, fear of staying home alone, fear of travelling via aeroplane, fear/ nervousness of attending a social event.

While some of these fears are momentary others are inherent and difficult to overcome. Music can help combat fear and make you feel better during situations that make you anxious. Just keep your earphones with you. Plug them in and play your favourite music to distract your mind and calm down during such situations.

Music Renders Strength

Music renders strength by helping people connect better with themselves as well as those around. It aids in better self expression. One can express verbally as well as non-verbally by way of music.

Music also serves as a coping mechanism for things we cannot let go. Many such things keep our energy levels down and hinder our productivity. Music helps us cope up with such feelings and thus renders strength. It can bring about a positive change in our life and increase our sense of control. It supports healthy feelings and hence bars the possibility of various physical as well as mental health problems.

The best thing about music is that it can be listened to anytime and anywhere. Music is one of the essential components in our lives. Music gives us entertainment and relaxation when we feel exhausted. The beautiful rhythm of Classical music not only can release our stress, but also can bring us pleasure. After a daylong study, I like to take a break to listen to some Pop melody by myself. Although some of those melodies contain Rock-and-Roll beats, it still can make me feel calm and comfortable. Also, music can heal my tiring soul by soothing it with rhythms. Some people even found that they couldn’t live without music, and I happen to be one of those people.

Music is one of the most important and powerful things in my life. My life without melodies and harmonies would be completely empty. Listening to and playing different songs helps me to UN-stress, relax, and it can also help to motivate me during frustrating times. I love listening to music while on my regular morning routine, because it helps me to prepare for the coming day. I think it is like the memoir to my life, as it has been there throughout every detail. When I was younger, I always had a great love for music. I mainly listened to whatever was playing in the aground or what my parents were listening to.

I didn’t have much of a care for musical compositions. Sometimes a little bit of Pop music was thrown in to the mix here and there, but that’s really all I liked back then. Whether I was in the car, the house, or anywhere else there was sure to be some Newsboys, the Drifters, or Elvis playing in the background. At the time, I didn’t care for that genre of music much, but now that I’m older; I enjoy it because it allows me to reminisce on memories from the younger years of my childhood. Now that I have hit my teenage years, music has come even more powerful in my life and has inhabited my soul deeper and deeper.

I believe music has the ability to convey all sorts of emotion. Whether the emotion is Joy and happiness or sadness and despair through the rhythms, harmonies and the lyrics. The song “How to Save a Life” by The Fray is such an emotional and inspiring song. When I hear it, I always come close to tears, especially when I watch the very sad music video. The effect that music can have on our emotions is tremendous, as it can bring people to floods of tears or bursts of laughter. The fact that music can tell a story, create images, or a personal connection through song is amazing.

Music has the ability to transport me back in time Just like a time machine. It lets me revisit lost and favorite moments in life. Songs can paint a picture, for example in Classical and Country music a story is being told. The notes in Classical music tell a story without lyrics, which is an immensely powerful thing. I feel that this applies to the saying “music imitates life and life imitates music. ” Recently song writing has wandered its way into my life. I believe there is no better way to express myself than through song. After a bad day, it’s nice to be able to sit down and write about it.

It can make all my problems Just disappear and float away. Listening to The Importance of Music In My Life By Gracefully The Importance of Music By: Grace Aubrey in the right direction and gives me guidance, as I need it. I love to Just sit with my guitar or piano and make up random lyrics about past experiences or what I’m going through at the moment. I started learning how to play the guitar four years ago, and within the past few years I have fallen completely and utterly in love with the instrument. Once I start playing, I find it extremely hard to put the guitar down again.

It’s very addictive and can also be distracting sometimes. Playing guitar and piano is one of the few things in my life in which I don’t feel pressurized to do well in. I think this is because I have a great teacher, and she doesn’t push me to do great in the music concerts. She Just shows me what to do, and I do the rest. I have always loved playing on the piano and always will love playing it. I am about an average player. For hours I would sit at the piano playing different well-known songs as making up my win little tunes.

I have been playing piano for almost nine years now, and I am starting the violin next year. When I was in kindergarten with my music teacher, Mrs.. Alleviate Mitchell, I had my first music class. During in the summer, I decided that I would become a music teacher too. Mrs.. Mitchell was delighted to share her dream of music with me, and now music is something nice that we can both talk about and bond over. I believe music effects people in many different ways. To me, music is more than Just something to listen to or play, it’s something to feel. Music is extremely important in my life.

I think it brings me closer to my friends and family. I also feel that it helps me to get through things. For example, I remember riding the four hundred mile road trip to China Hot Springs Resort, and the whole way along the ride we sang and listened to songs. The music was the only thing that kept me calm and patient. For the rest of my life, I want music to be part of my career. I have always loved music and always will love it. My whole life will always have music in it, because it is a big part of me. Music is immensely powerful and has a huge place in my life, right next to my heart.
