With just a few clicks, our smart technology helps you understand data, find trends, and make insightful reports, making your experience better and improving your SEO strategy.

What is a Case Study

A case study is like a detailed story that looks closely at a particular situation, person, or event, especially in the business world. It's a way to understand how things work in real life and learn valuable lessons. For instance, if a business wanted to figure out how another one became successful, they might study that business as a case study.

Let's say there's a small company that started selling handmade products online and became successful. A case study about this business could explain the challenges they faced, the strategies they used to grow, and the results they achieved. By reading this case study, other businesses could learn useful tips and apply them to their situations to improve and succeed.

7 Tips For Writing Great Case Studies

  • Pick a Familiar Topic: Choose a client or project that your audience can relate to. This makes it easier for them to see how your solutions might work for their situations.
  • Clear Structure: Start with a concise introduction that sets the stage for the case study. Clearly outline the problem, solution, and results to make your case study easy to follow.
  • Engaging Storytelling: Turn your case study into a compelling narrative. Use real-world examples, anecdotes, and quotes to make it relatable and interesting for your audience.
  • Focus on the Problem: Clearly define the problem or challenge your case study addresses. This helps readers understand the context and sets the foundation for the solution.
  • Highlight Solutions: Showcase the strategies or solutions implemented to overcome the problem. Provide details about the process, tools used, and any unique approaches that contributed to the success.
  • Optimize for SEO: By incorporating your case study into a blog post using a blog post generator, you enhance its visibility and reach. This, in turn, improves the search engine rankings of your blog post, attracting more organic traffic.
  • Quantify Results: Use data and metrics to quantify the impact of your solutions. Whether it's increased revenue, improved efficiency, or customer satisfaction, concrete results add credibility and demonstrate the value of your case study.

Next, include a brief description of your product/service. Highlight its key features, benefits, and how it solves a problem for your customers. This description should be concise but informative, to give a clear understanding of what makes your product unique. After that, it’s time to input your company name and a short description of your company. Talk about your company’s mission, values, and why you’re passionate about what you do. How do I write a case study?

The easiest way to write a case study is to get started with a template. This provides you with a pre-set cover page and table of contents; a variety of page layouts to work with; and a picture of how to organize content, add designs and break up text. A case study is not a technical document that needs to be structured in a specific and formal way. You can get creative but focus on making your content clear and easy to understand.

What's an example of a case study?

Case studies, in business and marketing, are stories of success achieved through a product or service. The product can even be a strategy or framework that was pioneered by an industry thought leader. Many brands publish case studies on their website to share how their clients see tremendous value in using their products. The case study essentially chronicles the entire client journey from having a problem, to finding the solution, and the outcome of that solution.

AI Builder is a new Power Platform capability that allows you to easily automate processes and predict outcomes to help improve business performance. AI Builder is a turnkey solution that brings the power of AI through a point-and-click experience. Using AI Builder, you can add intelligence to your apps even if you have no coding or data science skills.

Responsabilities

Project overview.

Leveraging AI to improve company processes and decision making is not an easy task for businesses as it requires hiring teams of developers and data scientists to build tailored AI models or integrating ready-made AI offerings that have limited customization. Both solutions come at a high cost. They can take years to generate return with uncertain outcomes as well as ethical and security concerns associated with AI. Our goal was to abstract all the complexity of AI models and provide an intuitive experience that lets our persona (a no code - low code user) build and customize AI solutions with ease.

I lead the AI Builder Design Studio. I'm responsible for the creative direction and product innovation. I’ve hired, onboard, and mentor a multi-disciplinary design team of product designers, motion designers, content strategists, and user researchers, spanned across Seattle and Paris.

Some sreenshots

In 2014 Xbox Music was rebranded Groove Music. We joined the Release Studio team under the direction of Claudio Guglieri to focus our attention on the Groove apps. One of my first challenges was to improve the first-run experience with a more engaging and personalized experience.

  • Increase Microsoft Groove usage
  • Improve retention by providing personalized content that’s always fresh
  • Improve App rating

I joined the Groove universal app team as a product designer under the supervision of Claudio Guglieri. My focus was to revisit our onboarding experience to make it more personal and delightful. I worked closely with the research team to identify our problem statements and define opportunities. I created user flows, wireframes, prototypes, motions, redlines, and collaborated with the engineering teams for building the concept on Windows 10, Mobile (iOS & Android), and Xbox consoles.

Design process

Understand the experience, situation, and emotion of our target users.

Synthesise the findings to have a clear understanding of the problems and pain points.

Explore a wide variety of ideas to solve solutions to a problem.

A simple, cheap and fast way to shape ideas to test them.

Ask for feedback on your prototypes and iterate on the ideal solution.

User research

Research helped us identified two main personas. The file activates user and the music streamer. We recruited six participants using the Groove Application to better understand their journey. All participants mentioned they have a valuable collection of music they maintained but also used different kinds of music streaming services. We then ask all participants to use the Groove application to perform two tasks. Open a music file from their local drive and discover new music from our service. For the first task, most participants communicated that they were anxious during the cold start experience when asked to choose a free trial before using the product. For the second task, all participants succeeded in discovering new music. Still, most participants said that it was a tedious task.

The file activate user

Main problems

1/ building a music collection takes time.

New users have to dig in our catalog of songs and playlist to find music they will like and start building a collection. ‍

2/ New users doesn't get music recommendations

The cold start experience isn't optimized for new users has we only propose New and Popular content.

To get a clear overview of the end to end experience, and make sure that I don't miss a use case, I created a user flow that highlights the user path for a new user or a recurrent user.

builder.ai case study

Taste profile concepts

The main goal of the taste profile is to gather signals from the user with a fun and delighting experience to provide personalized recommendations later on in the service. I've created several design prototypes in Framer and Origami to get a better sense of the user experience and use them in user studies to get feedback.

I started this concept on mobile. The swipe interaction started by Tinder was a good fit for this experience. The user will start with some music Genres, and based on his selection we would ask him to pick five artists.

Like the fist concept the user has to pick some genres first and then a few artists. The interaction here is simpler and less linear. The user decides how many inputs he'd like to give. The main down side of this experience was the lack of music samples on the artist selection.

The third concept is similar to the second one but with a different visual treatment. The participant did like the possibility to search but prefers to see artists' images.

With this concept I wanted to explore the concept of a vertical scroll timeline. Based on the user selection the timeline would refine and propose more accurate recommendations.

For the last concept I wanted to explore a different interaction to discover related artists.

Hallway testing to gather feedback

With the different prototypes created, I recruited 8 participants from our office but not familiar with the product. My goal was to iterate and get fast feedback quickly. The results were enlightening and helped us frame the direction of the taste profile. Below are some key insights from the participants.

builder.ai case study

End to end flow

Thanks to user feedback, I had a better understanding of the final concept I'd like to build. The timeline approach was the most interesting and scalable solution for users to build a taste profile while discovering new music. Here is a overview of the end to end experience for a new user starting Groove for the first time.

Start Groove

User open the Windows Start menu and select the Microsoft Groove application

builder.ai case study

Welcome screen

The first screen the user will see is the Welcome screen. Clicking on Get started will launch the Taste profile.

builder.ai case study

Taste profile

The taste profile is divided in two parts, the header that contains a search and an infinite list of genres and artists.

builder.ai case study

Taste profile feed

The feed is composed with 80% of suggested content based on previous selection and 20% of new content.

builder.ai case study

Add artists

The user can mouse hover a tile to hear a 30 seconds preview of the most popular track from an artist and click on it to add it to his taste profile.

builder.ai case study

The user can also add music genres to his taste profile.

builder.ai case study

Validate taste profile

Once we have a minimum of 5 seeds, a floating button becomes available for the user to validate his selection.

builder.ai case study

sucess screen

While we generate the playlists based on the user selection, we display a success screen with artists and genres tiles. Once all the recommendations are ready, the user can navigate to his personalized page.

builder.ai case study

Your groove

With the taste profile, we will automatically generate a feed of personalized content for the user. Also, we will add the artists selected to the user's collection. This allows the Groove cold start experience to be more personalized and filled with meaningful content.

builder.ai case study

Taste profile experience

We ended up choosing the Timeline experience and refined the interaction to make it easy to understand and accessible on Mobile and Console.

Takeaways and next steps

This project was exciting and fun to design. Finding the right concept and creating high fidelity prototypes was really challenging. I'm used to low fidelity prototypes, but here we needed an end to end solution that could react to the mouse position, touch gestures, and output sound based on particular conditions. Playing with Framer and Origami was a lot of fun.

With the Music Taste Profile concept finalized, my next step is to move the consumption experience within Groove to optimize the music discovery experience. Make sure to check the Your Groove case study to learn more.

In 2014 Xbox Music was rebranded Groove Music. I joined the Release Studio team under the direction of Claudio Guglieri to focus our attention on the Groove apps. One of my challenge was to revisit the music discovery experience and improve the retention rate.

I joined the Groove universal app team as a product designer under the supervision of Claudio Guglieri. My focus was to revisit the music discovery experience and make it more personal and tailored to our user's taste. I worked closely with the research team to identify our problem statements and define opportunities. I created user flows, wireframes, prototypes, motions, redlines, and collaborated with the engineering teams for building the concept on Windows 10, Mobile (iOS & Android), and Xbox consoles.

How might we?

1/ how might we help our users to discover new music tailored to their music tastes, 2/ how might we make the discovery experience as easy as one click, 3/ how might we make our proposal simple and transparent so our users know what to expect and when.

To get a clear overview of the end to end experience, and make sure that I don't miss a use case, I've laid down the different user paths from launching the Groove application to browsing recommended music.

Competitive analysis

To better understand how our competitors solve these problems, I audited Spotify and Apple Music. Both of them are mostly focusing on playlists to help their users to discover new and fresh content. Spotify releases 55 new playlists a week while Apple music releases 50 playlists a week.

Spotify generates 55 playlists a week

Apple music

Apple Music generates 50 playlists a week

builder.ai case study

Design explorations

The main concept was to leverage the Music Taste Profile to populate the Your Groove page with meaningful content tailored to the user music taste. I've proposed two main concepts to the leadership team. The first one was around a customized radio that leverages a natural language form contextual to the day of the week and the time of the day. While it was an interesting concept, we thought it wouldn't give enough options to the user. We choose the second concept, which puts playlists at the center of the experience. The page is divided into two main sections, with three main playlists at the top. These playlists give our users a go-to destination every time they start the application. The rest of the page is filled with additional channels of different content types (Albums, Playlists, Radios) and sources (User collection, Groove catalog).

builder.ai case study

Preview playlist content

I then focused on improving the discovery of new content by allowing our users to preview the top three playlists without entering them. I defined some high-level principles and quickly moved into Framer and Origami to create several interaction prototypes.

For this first concept, I started to look at how we would showcase content within the playlist with a mouse enter interaction.

For this second concept, I started to work on how users will be able to preview music content directly from the playlist tile.

With this iteration, I've refined how we could showcase that a track is loading and playing to improve accessibility and set expectations.

I then ported the preview playlist concept to Mobile and investigated how this would work with touch gestures.

Your Groove experience

builder.ai case study

With the Taste profile and the Your Groove page, we now have an end-to-end solution that helps new users to get a personalized music experience even on the first launch. It also encourages our recurrent users to come back several times a week to discover new content and get personalized and contextual recommendations. We confirmed this hypothesis as we notice a 7% increase in active users since the launch of this feature.

In 2014 Xbox Music was rebranded Groove Music. I joined the Release Studio team under the direction of Claudio Guglieri to focus our attention on the Groove apps. One of my challenge was to revisit the discovery experience and improve the retention rate.

Three main problems

Many users don't use groove to stream music.

Recurrent file activates users don't see the value of Groove. For them, Groove is just the a player that plays music from their local drive.

Building a music collection takes time

No personalized experience.

Recurrent Groove users expect to see fresh music tailored to their taste every time they visit the application.

To get a clear overview of the end to end experience, and make sure that I don't miss a use case, I've laid down the different user paths from launching Groove to browsing recommended playlists.

Convert file activate users

We looked at the telemetry and notice that 70% of users who start the app don't stream music. With additional research, we discovered that most of these users are those who usually open media files directly from folders instead of using corresponding apps. A lot of these users are not adopting Groove to manage their music and keep launching it through a file activate (aka. Recurrent file activate users). How can we slowly transition these users in using Groove to organize their local collection and ultimately upsell them to the premium experience?

music folder

User goes to his local music folder to play a song from his favorite artist

builder.ai case study

Now playing screen

Groove opens on the Now Playing screen. Thanks to the Groove Scrapper, the song is identified, and all the relevant metadata are displayed. In parallel, we automatically provide a list of similar songs so the user can continue exploring new music on the service. Lastly, we automatically scan the local folder and add the two songs to his Groove collection.

builder.ai case study

Switching to the album page, the user will now see songs from his collection organized by albums. Clicking on an album will show the album page with the artist's discography and similar artists.

builder.ai case study

Artists Library

Inside the Library the user will see a prompt asking to point Groove to his main music folder.

builder.ai case study

Adding local music

In a few second the user was able to bring all his local music inside Groove. Groove was able to recognize and organize all his music.

builder.ai case study

Personalized onboarding

With the flow for the file activates user optimized, I then focused on the second persona the music streamer. To reduce churn, I decide to focus on the cold-start experience to improve the music personalization. The main goal is to gather signals from the user with a fun and delighting experience to provide personalized recommendations later on in the service.

I've created several prototypes on Mobile and PC and tested them with 8 participants found in the office but not working the product. The results were enlightening and helped us frame the direction of the taste profile. Below are some key insights from the participants.

Browsers have been around since the early days of the internet. Innovation over the years has emphasized speed, compatibility and safety. But what people do on the web is so much more than just browse.

Our goal was to expand the type of content you can read within your browser and make it accessible to all users. We wanted users to have the best reading experience, allowing them to interact with the book in the same way they might do with a physical book but with more opportunities to enhance their understanding and engagement, with learning tools, notes, highlights, doodles or Cortana. I led a team of 5 designers to design the Windows Books Apps on five platforms (Windows 10, Xbox, Windows Phone 10, iOS and Android mobile and tablet). I've defined the scope and product vision, doing wireframes, user flows, visuals, prototypes, user tests, motions, redlines and supervised the quality of the development until releasing to production. We worked closely with three scrum teams in Paris and two design teams based in Redmond (GMT-7) and Hyderabad (GMT+5:30) working on other parts of EDGE.

I was the design lead for Books in Edge defining the user experience and visual direction on Windows 10, WP10, iOS and Android mobile and tablet. I was leading a small team of two junior designers and worked closely with three scrum teams in Paris and two design teams based in Redmond (GMT-7) and Hyderabad (GMT+5:30) working on other parts of EDGE. I've defined the scope and product vision, doing wireframes, user flows, visuals, prototypes, user tests, motions, redlines and supervised the quality of the development until releasing to production.

We did a comprehensive competitive analysis and ran several user studies with a diverse panel of readers. The goal was for us to have a good understanding of the market and ensure our product brings unique values to our users. Once the project planning was ready, I've built and costed a prioritized design backlog to keep track of our progress and ensure we deliver designs on time. With two junior designers in the team, I decided to create a design process to follow to ensure they have a good understanding of the problem before jumping too quickly on solutions while still giving them some room for autonomy. It consisted of a OneNote page that the designer would fill with, a problem definition, success metrics, list of job stories, competitive analysis, user flows and lastly links to prototypes and visuals.

User interviews

Research showed that users under age 30 are more likely to read their e-books on a phone or computer than on an e-reader or tablet. Additionally, the tablet is the preferred device for long-form reading, but the phone is often used when the tablet is left at home.

Users favored the computer for scenarios where they needed to learn, take notes, highlight content. Users plebiscite e-books over printed books when they are searching for a new book to read quickly. Lastly, e-books are easier to take with you when traveling or commuting and can enhance the reading experience with accessible content and rich media.

I enjoy being able to read any of my books wherever I am. I always have my phone on me, therefore my books come with me.

Factors discouraging e-book usage

Factors encouraging e-book usage.

Typically I start on the iPad and then if I am really into it, I will switch to my phone since I don't have my tablet on me all the time.

The file activate user

Research allowed me to develop better insight of the different user types. Based on my findings, I was able to create two fictional personas. Personas helped the product and design team to recognize that different people have diverse needs and expectations. It helps us during our ideation phase to create a good user experience for our target users and prioritize our backlog properly.

Reading experiences not available everywhere

A lot of users mentioned that they tried to read digital books but that their experience was limited to one platform

Users don't get the value of reading digital books

Many users are hesitant to read digital books as they don't see what are the benefits compared to reading a physical book.

Users expect to use digital books like physical books

Some users expect to use a digital book similarly to a physical book (bookmarking, taking notes, highlighting paragraphs...)

Edge has a built-in experience to share your favorite books with your family and friends easily. You can also highlight text in a book and share your highlighted passage.

Beautiful, engaging and easy to read

Reading a digital book should be fluid and enjoyable. The content beautifully reflows and adapts to my device sizes and reading preferences. Unlike a physical book, the reader provides interactive tools to get the most of your reading experience.

Expert tips, what is a case study.

A case study is an in-depth look at an individual or organization. Often they’re used to show the value of a product or service with real-life examples. Your company might walk potential customers through a breakdown of your current client’s success with a particular product. That can be a compelling way to market your products and grow your business.

Case studies are often found on company websites or white papers—or presented directly to potential clients. The key is creating an easily digestible document or presentation that succinctly conveys the value of your product or service. A case study template is a quick way to craft a compelling case study that’s ready to show to clients.

How long should a case study be?

Often a case study is a written document. This is the case when it’s embedded in a white paper or another promotional document. The traditional length for these case studies is 500–1,000 words. That length can provide enough detail without overwhelming the reader.

However, your case studies don’t need to be a full-length document. Instead, consider creating a visual presentation. This format can help you create a powerful narrative that’s going to stick with your audience. After all, images and numbers are more memorable. Utilizing them within your case study can help you capture the value you’re trying to show. Try this case study template to see how compelling your case study can become.

How to write a case study

Let’s dive into how to create your own case study using this Tome template.

Write a compelling headline.

  • Start with a headline that immediately tells your audience exactly what they can expect. Think of it like an email subject line. You want to convey your main message in only a sentence—that way your readers understand exactly what’s inside even if they read no further. This case study template draws attention to the headline and makes it front and center.

Give an overview of the case study.

  • Next up is the overview slide. This section is an opportunity to briefly summarize the main point of the entire case study. The overview is also your chance to introduce some key stats. Adding numbers is a powerful way to show the concrete value of your products. Potential buyers can see exactly what benefits the case study client experienced.
  • The Tome case study template provides you with spaces for a brief paragraph, some key numbers, and context for the stats. It’s designed to give your clients a snapshot of the entire presentation.

Introduce the client.

  • After setting the stage, it’s time to explain who the client in the case study is. Outline what they do and their target customers. You might even outline the demographics of their audience. Explain some key characteristics of their business strategy and how they were performing prior to working with your company. The Tome template provides an easy way to showcase your star customer.

Present the problem.

  • Your products or services are designed specifically to solve problems. No case study is complete without explaining the challenge your client faced. That perfectly sets you up to illustrate exactly how your company can solve that problem.

Detail the solution.

  • Once you’ve set everything up, it’s time to address how your product met the client’s specific needs. Outline your product details and how the customer utilized each one in their own business strategy. With Tome, you can add AI-generated images that make this section more impactful.

Show the results.

  • Arguably the most important part of the entire case study is the results. This slide is where you sell your product. It’s where your audience sees how your product solves real-world problems. A well-made results slide can motivate your potential buyer to try your product because they can visualize what you can do for them. The Tome template makes this section the centerpiece of your entire presentation.

End with a call to action.

  • Finally, give your audience something to do. After seeing the results, they’re likely motivated. Use that momentum and drive them to convert. You might encourage them to try a demo or to get in touch with your sales team. The Tome template provides an easy way to include your team’s information.

Transform your case study with AI

A well-designed case study can be a powerful tool to build your business and sell your services. It’s a way to show a potential buyer exactly what your team offers and the results they might expect. Step-by-step guide to writing a case study (a template).

Case studies are wonderful content pieces to build trust with a prospective customer. It’s no wonder 47% of marketers agree it’s the most effective content-selling tool.

But case studies can also be boring, hard to follow, and repetitive.

That’s why writing an engaging case study is key to building relationships with your customer. You want them to feel the ups and downs of previous customers, resonate with their challenges, and then see relief in finding a solution.

What if we consider writing a case study as if it were a story? A case study with protagonists, a peak conflict, and a happily ever after in the form of a solution.

This step-by-step guide will cover all the best practices and tips for writing case studies to win over customers.

Plus, you can use Writer’s case study template to streamline the process and ensure consistency across your case studies.

Essential elements of a case study

Before we detail how to write a case study, it’s important to understand what goes into one so you can prepare effectively. Most case studies include:

  • Background information on the company
  • Description of the problem
  • The solution your company provided
  • The results of the solution
  • Offer takeaways and lessons learned

How to prepare to write a case study

Before you start writing your case study, you’ll need to prepare interviews and resources to ensure all relevant content gets covered.

1. Understand the purpose of the case study

Before writing, it’s important to understand the purpose of your case study .

For example, is the purpose to drive new customer sales? Upgrade your current customers to premium plans? Or convert competitor’s clients to your product?

The purpose will help you determine the format, who to research, and define your objective with the case study.

2. Select the participants

When selecting the participants for your case study, it’s important to choose individuals who represent the issue you’re trying to examine.

The right participants will help your case study resonate with the potential customer, as they can find relatable pain points and desirable outcomes.

For example, imagine your company provides subtitles for videos. Your case study will be about how X company used subtitles to improve their video engagement rate. You’ll likely interview someone within the marketing department as these numbers relate to the performance indicators that they track.

3. Prepare interview questions

Once you’ve selected the participants for your case study, it’s time to prepare the questions.

The questions you ask should elicit detailed responses on their initial problem, the solution, and their thoughts.

These questions should help you further understand the scope of your product’s impact. Lastly, the insights from the questions will help build a storyline for your case study.

4. Conduct the interview

Once you have your questions outlined and set a time for the interview, it’s time for action.

Throughout the interview, be an active listener, stay engaged, and only interrupt the story when extra information is needed.

Let your participant know that all their thoughts and ideas can be edited later, as 17% of case studies don’t get published due to participants not approving their statements.

How to write a compelling case study

A case study covers the challenges of a specific person or organization and the solution they used to overcome their problem.

Let’s dive into a step-by-step guide on how to write one.

1. Start with a strong introductory paragraph

The first paragraph of your case study should introduce the company and provide some background information to provide context to the case study.

The introduction should give the reader a general overview of the upcoming case study theme.

2. Describe the problem

Introduce the problem that the company was looking to solve.

The challenge will be the main focus of the case study, so go into detail. Be sure to cover what the challenge was, the problems it caused, and why it needed to be solved.

3. Explain the solution

Explain the solution that was implemented. Here, it’s a good opportunity to introduce how your product or service was chosen and implemented by their company.

By discussing the factors that lead to a customer’s choice, readers can identify common valuable factors that lead to a purchase decision.

Then, include why and how the company’s problem was resolved with your solution.

4. Discuss the results of the solution

Take time to cover the results of your solution. Cover any data that helps reinforce your success claims and add the thoughts and reviews of key participants to this section.

Include the impact and benefit the solution has had on their company.

5. Offer takeaways and lessons learned

Include any key takeaway or lesson learned from the case. These can also be any thoughts that’ll help build trust in your reader and educate them on the benefits of your solution.

It’s also good practice to summarize the case study’s key points and offer your insights.

5 best practices for writing an engaging case study

When it comes to writing a compelling case study, there are a few key things to keep in mind.

1. Write it like a story

To make your case study more engaging and exciting, avoid business jargon and deliver what really counts- a story about overcoming challenges.

Write your case study as a story, with the protagonists and their challenges. This will make your case study memorable and engaging, as it dives straight into the team’s emotions, frustrations, and success.

2. Begin with a strong hook

You need to capture the reader’s attention fast, and an interesting hook is a great way to do that.

Introduce the case study with an engaging client testimonial or quote to get the reader curious to continue reading.

3. Include strong visuals

Add visuals like iconographs, charts, or product images to enhance the case study’s readability and visual appeal.

Images help readers visualize concepts and add proof of the solution’s benefits, making the case study more memorable and impactful.

4. Ensure the structure of the case study is easy to read

Make sure the case study is well-designed and easy to read. You want the reader to be able to skim through the article and digest the information easily.

This is also a good practice to help your case study follow the best SEO practices.

5. Add data and insights

Use data-driven insights in your case study to add validity to your points and show that you’re speaking from experience.

Include numbers that demonstrate the improvement of a customer problem using your solution. These statistics improve trust and confidence in your solution.

Streamline the process with a case study template

Writing a case study can be time-consuming and tricky. By using a case study template you can:

  • Automatically creates a professional-looking case study in the proper format
  • Saves you time by having a pre-formatted structure that ensures all the information has been filled
  • Ensures all language is inclusive and welcoming

How to use the Writer case study template

  • Add your company’s name
  • Add the customer you’re featuring
  • Describe the challenge
  • Describe the solution
  • Describe the results

Once all this information has been added, Writer’s templates will do the rest!

Each case study can be tweaked to include more information, enrich sections, or customize your brand’s tone using Writer’s AI tools.

What to do once you’ve written your case study

Once you’ve written your case study, it’s time to share it with the world!

Use your case study as a tool to promote your business value. Start by sharing it on social media, sending it to your email list, and updating it on your website.

In no time, you’ll see how customers learn to trust your business solution thanks to your case studies.

AI-generated content FAQ

How does writer generate content, where does the data for the model come from, how does customization and tuning work, what does writer do with the custom training data i provide, who owns the ip to content created with writer, is the content generated by writer good for seo, writer seems to know some details about my company, even before training it on my own data. where did that come from, where does writer get facts, quotes, and statistics from how can i verify these as true.

Our content generation capabilities are powered by our family of large language models — specifically, deep learning language models trained to generate text. It’s trained on over 300 billion tokens of text data, and the size of the resulting model is over 20 billion parameters. From training, it can understand how language is stitched together and constructed, predicting what might come next given a question or input.

The 300 billion tokens come from open source and public domain text. This includes corpuses of text such as Common Crawl (an extremely large body of text crawled from the web and maintained by the NLP community), books, and a complete copy of Wikipedia.

To customize the outputs, we rely on best-in-class examples from you. This can be just one to two examples, or thousands of examples. With examples, our model can better understand the context in which it’s writing content, making the output more in-line with your domain. Writer can also pick up on language and tone patterns, better matching your style.

If you decide to train Writer with your custom data, that data will only ever be usable in your version of Writer. We will never share your training data or any custom apps you make with anyone.

You, the customer, own all intellectual property rights to content created using Writer.

Google’s algorithms reward original, high-quality content. The content produced by Writer is completely original. Quality is, of course, subjective, but we recommend human team members review output before publishing. Review steps should include checking content structure, fact-checking, and incorporating original insights and information where relevant. Humans and search engine algorithms are unlikely to distinguish AI-generated content if these steps are followed. Read more about AI-generated content and SEO on our blog.

Since our model is trained on public domain text found on the web, the more your company has a presence on the web, the more Writer will know how to generate text based on publicly known company information. If Writer knows nothing or very little about a company, it will generalize based on what it’s seen about other similar companies.

Statistics and facts generated by Writer aren’t necessarily true. The model is suggesting that this is a statement that would fit well in the content, but it has no way to confirm that it’s definitely true. Any facts or statistics you see should be verified by a human editor.

Case Study Generator

A “case study” is a research methodology that is widely used in a range of fields such as social sciences, education, business, and health. It involves an in-depth investigation of a single individual, group, or event to explore the causes of underlying principles. The idea behind a case study is that the more you understand about an object, whether it’s a person or a phenomenon, the more we can understand about it in a broad sense.

A case study is generally a detailed study of the subject, where the subject can be a person, group, organization, event, issue, or any other entity. The research data is gathered from various sources like documents, observational records, interviews, psychological testing, or archival records.

A good case study is characterized by:

  • A clear and concise title The title should clearly identify the focus or central issue of the case study.
  • A thorough literature review This step helps to ground the study and establish a framework for interpretation.
  • A well-defined subject or issue It should be clear what or whom the case study is about.
  • Use of multiple sources of data This helps to provide a more comprehensive insight into the subject matter.
  • Detailed description The case study should provide a rich narrative of the issue or case under study, providing the reader with a real sense of the subject’s experience.
  • Thoughtful analysis and interpretation The researcher should be able to draw conclusions and make inferences from the data collected.
  • Well-structured and clear writing The case study should be well-organized, easy to follow, and free of technical jargon.

Remember, the aim of a good case study is not just to describe, but to illuminate a situation, and reveal what would otherwise not be known. The most valuable case studies provide the reader with new insights or knowledge about the subject.

Case Study: How Aggressively Should a Bank Pursue AI?

  • Thomas H. Davenport
  • George Westerman

builder.ai case study

A Malaysia-based CEO weighs the risks and potential benefits of turning a traditional bank into an AI-first institution.

Siti Rahman, the CEO of Malaysia-based NVF Bank, faces a pivotal decision. Her head of AI innovation, a recent recruit from Google, has a bold plan. It requires a substantial investment but aims to transform the traditional bank into an AI-first institution, substantially reducing head count and the number of branches. The bank’s CFO worries they are chasing the next hype cycle and cautions against valuing efficiency above all else. Siti must weigh the bank’s mixed history with AI, the resistance to losing the human touch in banking services, and the risks of falling behind in technology against the need for a prudent, incremental approach to innovation.

Two experts offer advice: Noemie Ellezam-Danielo, the chief digital and AI strategy at Société Générale, and Sastry Durvasula, the chief information and client services officer at TIAA.

Siti Rahman, the CEO of Malaysia-headquartered NVF Bank, hurried through the corridors of the university’s computer engineering department. She had directed her driver to the wrong building—thinking of her usual talent-recruitment appearances in the finance department—and now she was running late. As she approached the room, she could hear her head of AI innovation, Michael Lim, who had joined NVF from Google 18 months earlier, breaking the ice with the students. “You know, NVF used to stand for Never Very Fast,” he said to a few giggles. “But the bank is crawling into the 21st century.”

Turning enterprise data into knowledge entails sharing deep subject matter expertise between many people and sources. This process takes a considerable amount of time—days, weeks or even months.

But thanks to the power of generative AI, we’re now able to shorten that time frame, going from data to knowledge to real-time insights in just minutes.

That’s what we’re doing with BMW North America, using our Gen AI platform EKHO (Enterprise Knowledge Harmonizer and Orchestrator) to collect and analyze its enterprise data. The platform uses large language models to intelligently answer complex questions across business functions and use cases.

The heart of the platform contains multiple AI-enabled applications (GPT agents) that intelligently choose the right data source and pull information based on the user’s question and enterprise-specific data.

When an employee asks a question through the platform’s simple interface, it selects the right knowledge base and continues to refine answers based on the user’s feedback. EKHO solves new issues by learning from and applying past scenarios and pulling any new information added to the knowledge bases in real time.

Gen AI: The reverb effect

Thanks to the platform’s flexibility, EKHO can be applied to a vast number of tasks across the company—and on the showroom floor.

Imagine a BMW customer walks into a dealership, ready to buy their dream car but not prepared to make lots of decisions. Between the paint, tech, interiors and accessories, there are nearly 10 million possible configurations. Each variable has its own set of rules, which means some features aren’t compatible.

In the past, a BMW salesperson would have to consult manuals—spending hours cross-checking different features and customizations. Using EKHO, salespeople can cut the time consuming process to a matter of minutes.

No limits, all speed

With its customizable architecture, EKHO use cases are virtually limitless across organizations and business functions. For example, in manufacturing, it can be used to optimize supply chain processes by answering inventory and logistics questions.

The EKHO platform also can be integrated with marketing and sales, providing real-time data and customer insights to optimize campaigns.

Regardless of industry or use case complexity, EKHO’s flexible architecture and real-time analysis capabilities have the power to help companies like BMW use data and insights to stay in the fast lane.

Resolving Workforce Skills Gaps with AI-Powered Insights

Ongoing digital transformation requires a workforce that is proficient in a wide variety of new skills. This briefing explores the use of AI in quantifying such proficiency, through a process known as skills inference. We introduce this concept by means of a case study of Johnson & Johnson, showing how skills inference can provide detailed insight into workforce skills gaps and thereby guide employees’ career development and leaders’ strategic workforce planning.

The April 2024 research briefing is read by author Nick van der Meulen.

Google Announces Agent Builder, Expanded Gemini 1.5, Open-Source Additions

At the Google Cloud Next 2024 event, Google announced the launch of Vertex AI Agent Builder, the public preview of Google's most advanced generative AI model, Gemini 1.5 Pro, and the addition of open-source language models to the Vertex AI platform.

Vertex AI Agent Builder is a tool designed to help developers easily build generative AI experiences. It offers a no-code console for building AI agents using natural language to open-source frameworks like LlangChain on Vertex AI . The platform also streamlines the process of grounding generative AI outputs in enterprise data. "Vertex AI Agent Builder allows people to very easily and quickly build conversational agents," said Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian.

builder.ai case study

One of the key features of Vertex AI Agent Builder is its ability to build production-grade AI agents using natural language. Developers can create new agents in minutes by defining the goal they want the agent to achieve, providing step-by-step instructions, and sharing conversational examples. For complex goals, developers can stitch together multiple agents, with one agent functioning as the main agent and others as subagents. Agents can call functions or connect to applications to perform tasks for the user.

Vertex AI Agent Builder can improve accuracy and user experience by grounding model outputs in enterprise data, using vector search to build custom embeddings-based RAG systems. Developers also have the option of grounding model outputs in Google Search, combining the power of Google's latest foundation models with access to fresh information to improve the timeliness of results.

Google also announced the public preview of Gemini 1.5 Pro, which can process up to 1 million tokens, around four times the amount of data that Anthropic's Claude 3 model can handle and eight times as much as OpenAI's GPT-4 Turbo . This allows for tasks like analyzing code libraries, reasoning across lengthy documents, and holding long conversations. Google is making Gemini 1.5 Pro available in a public preview in over 180 countries via the Gemini API in Google AI Studio.

Can Gemini 1.5 actually read all the Harry Potter books at once? I tried it. All the books have ~1M words (1.6M tokens). Gemini fits about 5.7 books out of 7. I used it to generate a graph of the characters and it CRUSHED it. - Deedy

Google also announced the addition of Meta's Llama 2 and Anthropic's Claude 2 open-source language models to the Vertex AI Model Garden . This expands the variety of open-source models available on the Vertex AI platform, which already includes Google's own PaLM model. Vertex AI now provides access to over 100 curated models for developers to choose from.

Developers interested in learning more can check out the material on YouTube or read the wrap-up documentation.
