Speech on Health

Health is something you experience every day. It’s how you feel when you wake up, eat your meals, or play a game.

Good health helps you do things you love with ease. If you’re not healthy, even simple tasks can feel tough.

1-minute Speech on Health

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Health is like a treasure. It’s the most important thing we have. Just like a tree needs water and sunlight to grow, our bodies need good food and exercise to stay strong and healthy. Without health, we cannot enjoy life, play games, or do well in school.

Let’s talk about food first. Eating healthy is like putting the right fuel in a car. Our bodies need fruits, vegetables, proteins, and grains to run properly. We should avoid junk food, sugary drinks, and too many sweets. They can make us feel tired and sick.

Now, let’s talk about exercise. Our bodies are like machines. If we don’t use them, they get rusty. Exercise makes our bodies strong and helps us feel good. We should play games, run, jump, and dance every day.

Sleep is also important for our health. It is like charging a battery. Our bodies need rest to heal and grow. We should sleep for at least 8 hours every night.

Finally, we must remember to keep our minds healthy too. Just like a garden, our minds need care. We should read books, learn new things, and spend time with friends and family. This helps us feel happy and relaxed.

In conclusion, health is our greatest treasure. We must take care of it by eating right, exercising, sleeping well, and keeping our minds happy. If we do these things, we can live a long and happy life. Thank you.

2-minute Speech on Health

Today, we’re going to talk about health. Health is not just about not being sick. It’s about feeling good, both in our bodies and our minds. It’s about being strong and active, being able to play, work, and learn without feeling tired or unwell.

The first thing to understand about health is the food we eat. Eating the right food is like putting the right fuel in a car. Our bodies need different types of food to work well. We need fruits and vegetables for vitamins and minerals. We need grains for energy. We need protein from meat, beans, or nuts to build muscles. And don’t forget water! Our bodies need a lot of water to stay hydrated. Remember, a healthy meal is a colorful meal.

Exercise is the second part of staying healthy. Just like a car needs to be driven regularly, our bodies need exercise to stay in good shape. Running, jumping, swimming, playing a sport, or even just walking to school or the store are all good ways to exercise. When we exercise, our bodies become stronger and more flexible. We also feel happier and more energetic. So, let’s move and play every day!

Next, let’s talk about rest. Our bodies need to rest to stay healthy. This means getting a good night’s sleep every day. When we sleep, our bodies repair themselves and get ready for the next day. So, make sure you’re getting enough sleep. If you’re feeling tired during the day, it might be because you’re not getting enough sleep at night.

Hygiene is another important part of health. This means keeping our bodies clean. We need to wash our hands before we eat and after we use the bathroom. We need to brush our teeth twice a day to keep our mouths clean. And we need to take a bath or shower regularly to keep our bodies clean. When we keep our bodies clean, we’re less likely to get sick.

Lastly, we need to take care of our minds as well as our bodies. This means doing things we enjoy, spending time with friends and family, and taking time to relax. It also means asking for help when we’re feeling sad or worried. Just like our bodies, our minds need to be taken care of to stay healthy.

In conclusion, health is about eating right, getting exercise, resting, staying clean, and taking care of our minds. When we do all these things, we’re taking care of our health. And when we’re healthy, we’re ready to learn, play, work, and enjoy life. So, let’s take care of our health, because health is wealth.

Health is Wealth Speech for Students

Many of you have been made familiar with the phrase ‘Health Is Wealth’ in your school. Just like the phrase reads, the health of an individual plays an important role in our lives and is no less valuable than wealth. It is our sole responsibility to take proper care of our health and maintain a proper lifestyle to keep it healthy. By the term ‘Health’ , we not only define our physical health but also equally prioritize our mental health.

Thus, we have provided a long and short speech on health and fitness as a reference for the students. Speech on the importance of health is an important topic that must be introduced to all the students to help them be familiar with their mental as well as physical health. These speeches are provided for students of all categories along with a short 2 minute speech on health for the students of Class 1 and Class 2.

Long Speech on Health and Fitness in English

Given below is a long 500 words speech on health and fitness for the students of Class 7 to Class 12. This speech on the importance of health and fitness can be referred to by the students to prepare for their examination.

Greetings everyone! Today I have been provided with an opportunity to deliver a speech on fitness and how our health plays a major role in maintaining our mental as well as physical fitness. Since we are in a generation where everything around us is so technologically advanced and fast, we often get too dependent on machines and technology. Due to our fast-paced and busy schedule, we give less importance to physical fitness and mental health. As a result, all we have become is physically inactive and lazy. But with this are we all heading towards a healthy lifestyle? Sadly, the answer is no. Gone are the days where we used to walk to the nearest stores and take the stairs of our buildings. Also, we are more addicted to eating junk foods and ordering food from outside. Therefore, this has given rise to several diseases starting from cardiovascular diseases, obesity, depression and anxiety.

Although there have been several medical technologies and treatments that can get you out of it, all it takes to stop this thing is self-control and a healthy lifestyle. As the saying goes, ‘Health is Wealth’, an individual can only enjoy all the valuables of life if he/she/they is both physically and mentally healthy. The health of an individual plays a major role in his/her/their life and must be taken care of. In spite of our busy schedules, it is our responsibility to prioritize our health and involve ourselves in some kind of physical activity. Physical exercises need not be always strenuous, it can also be done in the form of walking, cycling, yoga and meditation that brings calmness to both mind and body.

But, is doing physical activity enough to stay healthy? Well, no. Most of the role to keep us healthy is played by the food we intake. It will be of no use if we intake junk and unhealthy food, rich in sugar and cholesterol levels and try to be healthy. Apart from exercising, it is equally important to drink plenty of water to keep ourselves hydrated. The level of fitness totally depends on the amount of activity our body can perform and the food we consume. Thus, inculcating a habit of eating healthy foods such as fruits, green vegetables and essential vitamins is really important.

I hope this health is wealth speech was really helpful in motivating you all to stay physically and mentally healthy. So, it’s high time that we really put our health over everything and take proper care of it. Lastly, I would like to thank all of you for being here today and listening to my speech.

Short Speech on Health and Hygiene

A short speech on health and hygiene is given below as a reference for the students of Class 3 to Class 6. This health y speech in English is given in a simple language to help them understand the topic better and prepare them for any speech competition or exam.

A very warm welcome to everyone present here. Today, I am going to deliver a speech on health and hygiene. These two are strongly associated with each other because it is very important to maintain a hygienic environment to stay healthy. This can be done by maintaining cleanliness and incorporating the habit of hygiene in our lives.

Living an unhygienic lifestyle can lead to several skin diseases and infections. The health of a person determines how much a person is physically fit and active. When it comes to taking care of health, several factors come into play which includes eating healthy food, doing regular exercises, having a proper sleep cycle and maintaining oral hygiene. We have been taught since our childhood to brush our teeth twice a day and avoid eating sugary foods to prevent bad breath and cavity. But many of us often forget to inculcate these healthy habits in our daily life. Our daily schedule has become so busy that we often end up ignoring our health, which in the long term, affects our body.

We can start leading a healthy life by taking small steps towards it such as switching from junk foods to fruits and vegetables, drinking plenty of water and walking every day for at least an hour. This, as a result, will help us concentrate well on our work and lead a life full of fitness.

10 Lines on Health

Health is Wealth Speech - 10 Lines, Short and Long Speech

Speech on health is wealth -.

Health is the highest wealth for a human being in their entire life. One can survive without having money but no one can survive without good health. Something that we cannot buy with money is health. But we can cure it and take care of it with the help of money when needed. It is a real treasure. Unless you stay healthy nothing you work for or you earn can be enjoyed.

Health is Wealth Speech - 10 Lines, Short and Long Speech

10 Lines Speech on Health is Wealth

An American philosopher named Ralph Waldo Emerson is the one who created "Health is Wealth".

Only a healthy person can live a happier and long life.

Nothing is more important to anyone than health in this world.

We should always try our best to keep ourselves healthy.

Success will always chase healthy people.

A peaceful mind and body can automatically earn both health and wealth.

We can save huge money on medical bills by making our mind and body physically fit and healthy by following a healthy lifestyle.

Good health helps us to achieve everything.

In general people who are healthy can work more when compared to people who are ailing from disease.

We ultimately lose interest in everything happening around us when our health is not good or fails to cooperate with us.

Short speech on Health is Wealth

Good health is one of the main elements of happiness that every person needs in their life. We can see many people around us who are living happily without having a lot of money and similarly someone who is having more money but is unhealthy will not be totally happy. However no one can buy good health with their wealth.

Healthy life

If someone wants a healthy life then they have to follow many rules and also sacrifice many things in their daily routines. There is a saying that without any sacrifices and hard work we cannot earn something. A healthy lifestyle is the highest blessing that should not be taken for granted by us. We ourselves are only responsible for our health. So make a healthy lifestyle a priority.

Always strive to keep a cheerful as well as a concentrated routine. It is very necessary to plan ahead of time in any case one must maintain a good bodily, mental and emotional state and no counselor or professional can assist you unless you deserve to live. The will to live the moment and make the most of it will bring out the ideal strength in you. You are the only one who cannot let yourself fall apart.

Long Speech on Health is Wealth

World health day.

On April 7, every year World Health Day is celebrated. It is an initiative taken by the WHO ( World Health Organization ) to raise awareness among people across the world. This day reminds people to take their health more seriously. The WHO organized local, regional and international events on this day. WHO helps in protecting health from the adverse effects of climate change, run campaigns to provide awareness among us.

Good Health

Good health doesn't only mean the absence of disease in the body but it is a complete mental, physical, spiritual as well as social well being of an individual.

It is always advisable to eat fresh food and fruits instead of junk or spicy food which are harmful to the body. Drinking sufficient amounts of water, intake of milk and seasonal food should be included in our food. Food in olden days was very naturally cultivated or grown but nowadays it is grown full of chemicals. This will harm our health.

Maintain a balanced diet daily. Using healthy oils, more veggies, intake of fruits and grains, and drinking sufficient amounts of water can be considered as a proper diet. Intake of food more than the body requires is also unhealthy .

Being physically active can improve your brain health, reduce the risk of disease, help to manage weight, strengthen bones and muscles and improve one's ability to do everyday activities. Most of the health issues which many one are facing today are due to the lack of physical work.

Health is wealth means that being healthy is more important than being wealthy. Wealth can be lost, but good health is priceless and cannot be bought with money. A person who is in good health is able to work efficiently and enjoy life to the fullest. On the other hand, a person who is constantly battling illness will find it difficult to lead a normal life, regardless of how much wealth they may have.

For example, consider a wealthy business person who falls ill and is unable to work for an extended period of time. Despite their wealth, they will not be able to enjoy the fruits of their labor and may even face financial difficulties due to the costs of medical treatment. In this situation, good health would have been a much more valuable asset than wealth.

Therefore, it is important to prioritise one's health and take steps to maintain it, such as exercising regularly, eating a balanced diet, and getting enough sleep. By doing so, a person can enjoy both good health and wealth, and live a fulfilling life.

In conclusion, the phrase "health is wealth" emphasizes the importance of good health in our lives. It highlights the fact that even the most wealthy individuals can become impoverished by poor health, while good health allows us to enjoy all aspects of life, regardless of wealth. Taking care of one's health should be a top priority, and this means making lifestyle choices that promote physical and mental well-being.

  • FAQs on Speech on Health

When we say the word ‘health’, what do we mean by it? As per the WHO (World Health Organisation), health is referred to the state of full mental, social and physical well-being and not just the absence of mental or physical weakness or illness. When a person doesn’t have any physical ailments and isn’t mentally disturbed, then they can be said to be in their best health. People usually try to stay healthy but, due to the recent pandemic, it’s becoming difficult to maintain one’s health.

The spread of the corona virus over the past two years has made it difficult for everyone to maintain their health. Though this is the case, one should try to follow some simple ways that will help them keep their bodies and minds healthy. Let’s look at some ways that anyone can follow:

  • Try including some physical exercises/yoga in your routine. They not only prove to be beneficial for the body but also for the mind. For the past two years, offices, as well as schools and colleges, have been functioning online. As a result, many students and young people have developed backaches and posture problems. Adding at least half an hour of yoga/exercise to your daily routine will help you overcome these problems.
  • In today’s world, everybody is engrossed in their mobiles or laptops, and there’s very little time they spend without it. Sometimes, it is necessary to take a break from all these electronic and smart devices. This will help us maintain proper physical and mental health.
  • A good night’s sleep is an easy and effortless way to maintain your health. Your body works to repair all the cells and make sure that your body functions properly the next day in the time that you rest. A minimum of 8 hours of sleep is necessary for any adult being.
  • Try to avoid processed or fried foods and make sure that your plates include enough vegetables and fruits. A healthy platter does wonders for one’s health.
  • If you are feeling disturbed or upset about something, talk to your near and dear ones; you can also consult a specialist if you need. Just like physical health, mental health is also something that is to be considered important. When we fall ill, we have medicines; similarly, if someone is feeling mentally unwell, they should consult a specialist.

With the COVID19 pandemic going on for the past two years, one should take the following precautions to avoid getting affected by the virus. Here are some simple steps one can follow:

  • Always put on a mask whenever you step out of your houses. This is applicable to people of all ages.
  • Everyone should avoid going to crowded places as there is a high risk of getting affected.
  • If you feel you are affected by the virus, seclude yourself from the rest of your family members and keep in touch with your doctors so that everything is monitored and you stay out of danger.
  • Try to eat healthy food and fruits that’ll help you develop immunity.

Speech on Health for Students and Children

Speech on health.

Hello, wonderful people out there. Today I am here to deliver a speech on Health. This includes everything starting from our physical health to mental health. A person who is free from illness, free from injury and free from pain in both mind and body is considered as healthy.  One may have a healthy body, but his mind might be sick. On the contrary, one can have a healthy mind but might have a sick body. Hence the balance between the two is extremely important and if a person with a healthy body has a healthy mind, then that person can be considered as a healthy individual. We are part of a population and community. Hence we all have a responsibility towards making it a healthy community.

What is Physical Health?

Physical health tells about the state of our physical body. That how are we maintaining our body. This has nothing to do with the physical appearance, being slim or anything like that. It means that how our physical body is operating.

Whether we are able to perform our regular daily tasks well, whether we are facing any sort of fatigue, pain or are being lethargic in short intervals. Physical health powerfully connects and affects other components of health. For example, if we don’t sleep well, or if we are having an interrupted sleep then the next day we are not able to perform well.

If we are not feeling physically healthy then it affects our mood and confidence level as well. We can adapt certain healthy habits to live a healthy lifestyle. Like being active throughout the day, by eating and drinking a balanced diet, by taking care of hygiene and disease prevention. Our physical health lays a foundation for many important aspects of our life, hence we need to take very good care of our bodies.

What is Mental Health?

We all have mental health. It is just as important as physical health. Mental health comprises our emotional, psychological and social well being. It affects how we feel, think and act. It also is a determinant of how we handle stress.

Thus, it is very important at every stage of life. It depends upon our genetic makeup and upbringing, Our life circumstances and the stresses we encounter in our life. Some people at some stage may have mental disorders like depression and anxiety.

Later at other stages of life, they may have positive mental health when they feel contented & fulfilled. Our aim should be to have positive mental health where we can reach our full potential and live a satisfying life.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) describes mental health as a state of well being where an individual realizes his full potential, can cope with the stresses in a productive manner and convert it productively and contribute towards the well being of our community.

Being mentally healthy implies that we are able to cope up with difficult times, feel in control, confident and good about ourselves, managing & expressing your emotions and building and maintaining good relationships.

Health specialists say that connecting the dots between food, exercise, and sleep can make a big difference in our health, both mental and physical health. Exercising, eating the right food, nourishing the mind with positive thoughts and healthy companionship.

These habits start in childhood and go ahead with our lives. Then we gradually pass it on to the next generations. Hence, a healthy lifestyle is actually an interlinked chain that is connecting us to our past and future. Let us pledge today to take very good care of our mental and physical health.

Thank you and do take very good care of yourselves.

Health is wealth speech

In this article, I’m going to write health is wealth speech for different duration of time so that you can prepare the most suitable one for you.

Actually, I have written this speech for 1, 2, and 3 minutes. Now, it’s only up to you which one you choose.

All these speeches can be given anywhere whether it’s a school or a public place. It seemed a very important topic, that’s why I decided to write an article on it.

So, without any delay, let’s start writing the speech.

Also, see the speech on poverty in India for 2 minutes .

Table of Contents

Health is Wealth Speech in English for 1, 2 & 3 Minutes –

1. health is wealth speech for 1 minute –.

Hello everyone, my name is Sachin Kulkarni and today, I’m going to give a speech on health is wealth. Please forgive me if I make any mistakes.

Good health is one of the most valuable assets for human beings in life. If someone’s health is not good, he can neither live his life comfortably nor can enjoy the moments of life like others.

Health is something that can be cured with money, but can’t be bought. That means no matter how rich we are, we can’t buy good health.

Everyone wants good health but no one follows things that are responsible for good health. To be healthy, we should meditate, do physical work, eat healthy food, etc. But, people don’t pay attention to them.

We can live life without money but not without good health. So, we should pay special attention to our health because only good health can take us towards the peak.

If we really want to live a healthy life, we have to wake up early in the morning and do physical and mental exercises for a definite interval of time, as well as we have to consume hymns that keep our health good.

At last, I’ll request to everybody to maintain his health for the enjoyment of life.

Also, see the speech on knowledge is power for 2 minutes .

2. Health is Wealth Speech for 2 Minutes –

First of all, my greetings to everyone who is listening to me here. My name is Subodh Bharti and I study in class 8th. Today, I got an opportunity to express my thoughts about health is wealth. So, if I made any mistake, please give me pardon.

As you all know that progress in any field is possible only when we have good health. In other words, success can’t be achieved without good health. Nevertheless, people don’t focus on their health.

We all are so busy shaping our future that we have forgotten to care about our health, whereas only good health can take us towards a good future. We don’t want to do any physical or mental work. As a result, we have become very lazy.

In the earlier decades, when there was no technology, we were not dependent on any machine or equipment, but increasing technology has made us dependent.

Today, we are completely dependent on machines. We don’t require much physical activity while doing any work, due to which we’re getting surrounded by various types of diseases. To become healthy, it’s essential to be mentally, intellectually, physically active and eat food that can strengthen us in every way.

In the true sense, our good health is the only wealth. if we are healthy, we can be happy and enjoy our life with no stress. If we are unwell, no matter how much money we have, it cannot give us happiness.

So, always try to stay fit so that you don’t have any stress or disease.

Also, see the speech on the importance of yoga .

3. Health is Wealth Speech for 3 Minutes –

Good morning to all the respected teachers and students, today, I’m going to give a speech on health is wealth, please forgive me if I make any mistakes unknowingly.

Health is wealth, in this proverb health is compared to wealth. No matter how much money we have, if we are physically unwell, no one is poorer than us.

It’s also believed that whether we are rich or poor, diseases don’t come after seeing our prosperity and poverty, but it’s absolutely true that they capture those who remain physically or mentally inactive.

In today’s era, we are chasing our work so fast that we don’t worry about our health.

There is no doubt that working is necessary for our livelihood, but we should also take care of our health. Only a healthy body motivates us to do work and if we are unhealthy, we cannot do anything efficiently.

Due to our body being unhealthy, neither we feel energetic nor are we motivated to do any work. That’s why it is always said that health is the first wealth.

To stay away from diseases, we should exercise regularly and do it on a daily basis. At the same time, we should take healthy food and be active in our work as much as possible because inactivity and laziness are such things that give a feast to diseases.

If possible, all parents should motivate their children to take yoga classes or regular exercise so that they can lead healthy and happy lives. Also, we have to make a habit of being happy by reducing anger. It has been known for centuries how beneficial laughter is for health.

A healthy and happy life will come only when we are physically and mentally fit otherwise we will spend our days in despair and passivity.

Now, I end my words and suggest you keep your body healthy.

Also, see the speech on child labour for 2 minutes .

Final words –

In the end, I hope that the article must have satisfied you and you have got here the best speeches on health is wealth.

Now, you can choose the best one which can attract more attention while delivering the speech. If you really liked this article, please share it with those who need it.

150 just a minute topics, plus sample speech outlines and speeches

By:  Susan Dugdale

One minute speeches. That's sixty seconds to inform, to persuade, or to entertain using between 130 to 150 or so words.

How succinct can you be? Can you get the point quickly and effectively?

Giving impromptu *  1 minute speeches teaches us about talking smarter, not faster!

* Impromptu -  without preparation time or rehearsal

I'd like to call on Joe to say a few words

Our lives present many occasions calling for someone, perhaps us, to say 'a few words'. Whether in our work place, family, social or community setting, the ability to do that confidently and competently is highly valued.

Practicing preparing and delivering one minute speeches is an ideal way to gain the skills needed.

What's on this page

150 one minute speech topics.

1 minute speech on health

You'll find 150 impromptu 1-minute speech topics, split into 3 groups:

  • 50 one minute speech topics for children from middle school age and up
  • 50 business/work/career themed 1 minute speech topics more suitable for adults
  • 50 fun/nonsensical/absurd just a minute speech topics for adults

But wait, there's more! You will also find ...

Sample just a minute speech outlines & speeches with audio

In addition to the 1-minute speech topics there are  three example speech outlines that have been worked into speeches: one from each group of 50 topics.

I've included them because a 1-minute speech is just like any other. To be effective it needs structure.

The danger of opting to go 'free form' is that you're quite likely to serve up a meandering splurge of information leaving the people listening to it wondering what the exact point was you wanted to make.

One of the most effective structural formats or templates to commit to memory and use for impromptu, short speeches is Point, Reason, Example, Point or PREP * .

I've used it in my three sample outlines and speeches.  The pattern, PREP, repeats three times in each of them.

You'll find text and audio of each 1-minute speech below each topic group.

( * Find out more about 6 other useful impromptu speaking templates .)

At the bottom of the page there's a compelling explanation as to why learning to give good impromptu one-minute speeches is a brilliant action to take.

And very lastly, after information about the fabulous impromptu One Minute Speech game , there's a blank printable Point-Reason-Example-Point (PREP) one minute speech outline template to download for your own use. ☺

Here's PREP - Point, Reason, Example - in action.

The opening sentence, incorporates the topic, states the first Main Idea *  or Point and serves as an introduction.

Yep, it's working hard! You don't have a lot of time, so you need to get straight to the point from the very beginning.

(The speech text without the PREP outline headings is below.)

* Main Idea and Point are interchangeable terms.

1.    Main Idea or Point

Something I want to learn  is to read people's minds.

 - Reason

I think it would give me power over my family.

 - Example

For example I’d know what my mother was planning for my birthday. If I didn't like it, I could begin a campaign to steer her in the direction of something I wanted.

2. Main Idea or Point

I would also know if people were telling the whole truth, partial truths or total lies.

That's handy for sorting out squabbles with brothers and sisters.

Jimmy did eat the last bit of cake. And despite what she says, Janelle borrowed my top and splodged tomato ketchup on it.

3. Main Idea or Point

Lastly my father would know I was on to his excuses for habitually coming home late.

- Reason - Example (I've missed both out to fit the content into the time limit,  I don't feel it lessens the speech as the first two Main Ideas or Points were fully covered. Besides, the reason is implied. My knowing would/could curb my father's behavior.)

Close - Summary

Today I begin training. I've enrolled in internet guru Madame Gloria's 10 lesson mind reading course. My family will be amazed. You could try it too!

1.   Main Idea or Point

Clothes make the man.

Yes, we judge each other on what we wear. And have done forever.

For better, or for worse,  in the western working world, nothing says dependable and professional as eloquently as a tailored grey business suit, a crisp white shirt and a pair of good shoes.

If we're sensible we understand clothing speaks louder than words ever can.

And that our choices can undermine whatever we're involved in.

For example, a funeral director wearing a silver micro mini skirt teamed with skimpy red t-shirt meeting a client for the first time could set alarm bells clanging loudly.

I'm immensely grateful to have been spared the minefield of choice by a business dress code.

- Reason

Both the risk and anxiety of getting it wrong is enormous.

 - Example & close

So what my carefully selected work clothes say about me is that I'm conscientious, detail focused, ambitious and, per courtesy of my classic Cartier watch, that I understand quality.

The significance of World Paper Clip Day -Topic 15 from the for fun list  - PREP format

1 minute speech on health

(The full text, minus the PREP outline headings, is below.)

Naturally, the significance of World Paper Clip Day is of interest to all intelligent people.

We understand the importance of keeping it together, of clipping ideas. It makes for an orderly existence.

Think of the horror of muddled thoughts. Strewn willy-nilly, with nothing to hold them. Pitiable, isn't it?

We need clips. Just as we need the paper they hold.

Both are crucial in this digital age - where ideas can vaporize with a key stroke, or a system malfunction. Entire files, weeks worth of work, can be lost, never to be restored, in a second.

Clipped papers are reassuringly tangible. They can be seen, touched and if you're into it, smelled.

Lastly we need to cherish the clip for its universality.

Wherever it is in the world, what it stands for is understood.  The paper clip unites - not just ideas, but people.

Look around!  Vive la clip!

Why learning to give 1 minute speeches is brilliant

The brilliance of becoming comfortable and competent with making impromptu 1 minute speeches is that you'll learn to:

  • distill your material - reduce it to its core essentials - selecting only what is necessary and best to meet your speech purpose and the needs of your audience.
  • structure your information efficiently and effectively thus mastering two important facets of good speech making: speaking to time rather than going over and, providing an easily followed sequence of ideas. Your audiences will love you for both!

Consequences, side effects and benefits

You will be a hero! I do not jest. (OK, maybe just a smidgen. ☺) However the person who can calmly, confidently, competently stand and talk in public settings is always admired, and in demand. Speak well, saying what needs to be said, and you're fulfilling a vital social service, along with super-charging your self esteem!

The next time a toast, a summary to close a meeting, or a 'few words' to welcome a visitor are called for, perhaps it will be you leaping to your feet.

Inside ‘Health Prom,’ and why it matters

1 minute speech on health

with research by Rachel Roubein

Thank goodness it’s Friday. I’m Dan Diamond, and Washingtonian magazine claims I’m “ influential .” (Washingtonian’s editors have never seen me ask my toddler to do literally anything.) If I can influence you to do anything, it’s to send scoops to [email protected] . Not a subscriber? Sign up here.

Today’s edition: Leaders of the Senate Finance Committee are releasing a draft bill aimed at mitigating drug shortages. The bird flu likely circulated in dairy cows for about four months before federal officials diagnosed the disease. But first …

Your virtual ticket to the ‘Health Prom’

Washington last week was focused on the White House correspondents' dinner, a.k.a. “ Nerd Prom .”

But for Health 202 readers, this Saturday is the true main event: the annual health prom.

The Winston Health Policy Ball will draw around 1,000 policymakers, lobbyists and prominent wonks to the Ritz-Carlton in Tysons. For one night, some of Washington’s most powerful health-care leaders dress up, go out together and let their guards down. It’s the rare event when Trump and Biden health officials will share drinks in the same room — even if they end up clumping on opposite sites of it.

“It’s the only kind of prom that I could’ve become king of,” said Dean Rosen , a partner at Mehlman Consulting and former GOP congressional staffer, who’s helped steer the event and the broader Winston Fellowship program.

The nearly 40-year-old event honors David A. Winston , a health policy leader and former Reagan aide, and was created by his wife Susan after his untimely death in 1986. The ball used to be held in the winter but was moved in 2022 to spring — partly to get away from covid and flu season.

The evening’s focus: The ball funds annual fellowships for a pair of handpicked policy wonks — known around town as “the Winstons” — who spend three months doing interviews with notable figures and then are placed for nine-month stints in D.C. offices. (It also funds a scholarship program for current graduate students.)

Many fellows have since become notable leaders themselves ; past Winstons are currently in key positions in the White House, Congress and across the Biden administration.

In interviews, they acknowledge it’s a career accelerator.

“It really changed the course of my life,” said Meghan Taira , a 2002 fellow who was placed in the office of then-Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D.). She’s now legislative director for Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.). “It’s an amazing, amazing way to learn in your first year,” Taira added.

“It is a launching pad,” added Erin Richardson , a 2010 fellow who went on to work in the House, Senate and White House. “The fellowship has gained such a reputation that around town people say, ‘Oh, you’re a Winston fellow. You’ve been vetted.'”

She now serves as chief of staff of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services .

How the ‘prom’ works

Major health-care companies, policy organizations and lobbying shops sponsor tables, while the fellowship then invites Hill and administration staffers and randomly assigns their seats to comply with ethics rules.

“It was a big deal as a junior staffer to get invited,” said Rodney Whitlock , a former GOP Senate Finance Committee staffer.

The random seating can lead to occasionally awkward evenings. Whitlock reflected on a year when he was seated at a table with officials from AARP , which was battling with his committee. Another year Whitlock requested to move tables because his committee was investigating the table’s sponsor.

Unlike the White House correspondents dinner, health prom isn’t big on speakers. Rosen recalls a year when then-Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt was invited to address the crowd.

“Eighty percent of people in the room probably didn’t even know he was trying to speak, and the other 20 percent might not have cared,” Rosen said, crediting Leavitt’s political instincts and ability to read a room. “After about two minutes, he folded up his remarks and sat down.”

Where the ‘Winstons’ are now

The health prom also is a celebration of the current and past fellows, who are honored through the night, though not all of them stay in Washington or government. Some head to academia, like Harvard professor Adrianna McIntyre , or the private sector, like Humana executive Jay Khosla .

Newer Winstons say they’re marveling over their good fortune.

Alex Urry was named a Winston in 2019 — and placed in the office of then- Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), injecting him into national decisions over health policy in his mid-20s. He now works for House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) as a senior policy adviser.

“It’s just a really special thing,” he said. “It’s a testament to the past fellows that … you have a little more freedom in choosing your path.”

On the Hill

Senate finance leaders unveil draft bill to tackle drug shortages.

New this a.m.: Senate Finance Committee leaders are releasing a bipartisan discussion draft of legislation aimed at addressing the drug shortages plaguing the country.

The draft bill comes as the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists says drug shortages reached an all-time high in the first quarter of this year, surpassing the previous record set in 2014. Generic drugs tend to make up the majority of medicines in shortage at any given time.

The details: The draft bill from Senate Finance Chairman Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and the panel’s top Republican, Sen. Mike Crapo (Idaho), would establish new authority in Medicare to create a voluntary program overhauling how hospitals and physicians purchase generic drugs at risk of being in short supply, according to an overview shared with The Health 202. The legislation would also make changes to the Medicaid Drug Rebate Program to help generic manufacturers address economic challenges that create shortages for retail drugs.

On the other side of the Capitol …

Menopause legislation was unveiled in the House. Reps. Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.) and Yvette D. Clarke (D-N.Y.) on Thursday unveiled their version of the Advancing Menopause Care and Mid-Life Women's Health Act, a $275 million package that would boost funding and research for menopause.

It's the companion bill to the legislation unveiled by Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) and other female senators — and boosted by actor Halle Berry — outside the Capitol on Thursday morning .

Lawmakers have bemoaned the state of menopause research , saying it's suffered for lack of attention — and because the condition afflicts the wrong half of America. “If men were affected, there would be a large NIH institute totally dedicated to every aspect of menopause,” Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) said at Thursday's news conference.

Berry also vowed to personally urge holdout senators to sign onto the bill and called on other women to press their lawmakers on the issue. “Demand to be heard,” she said.

Agency alert

Bird flu likely circulated in cows four months before diagnosis.

We’ve reported that researchers estimate bird flu has been in dairy cattle much longer than it was first reported in late March. Now, a new federally funded research paper says the highly pathogenic virus had likely been circulating in dairy cows on a limited basis for about four months before federal officials confirmed the disease, Reuters reports.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has said it believes wild birds, which can carry the virus, introduced bird flu to cattle. The outbreak expanded as cows were shipped to other states, according to the paper.

Reproductive wars

Texas man files legal action to probe ex-partner’s out-of-state abortion.

Our colleague Caroline Kitchener reports this morning on a potential new strategy by antiabortion activists to try to stop women from traveling out of state to end their pregnancies, based around an unusual legal mechanism often used in Texas.

When Collin Davis found out his ex-partner was planning to travel to Colorado to have an abortion in late February, the Texas man retained a high-powered antiabortion attorney — who court records show immediately issued a legal threat.

“If the woman proceeded with the abortion, even in a state where the procedure remains legal, Davis would seek a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the abortion and ‘pursue wrongful-death claims against anyone involved in the killing of his unborn child,’ the lawyer wrote in a letter, according to records. Now, Davis has disclosed his former partner’s abortion to a state district court in Texas," Caroline writes.

The previously unreported petition includes no evidence of illegal activity. Abortion rights advocates argue these types of legal actions are an effort to intimidate people who have done nothing wrong.

In Mississippi: An effort to expand Medicaid died in the GOP-led legislature yesterday because lawmakers couldn’t agree on a final proposal. It was the first year the program, which would extend health coverage to thousands of people, was seriously considered in the state, Emily Wagster Pettus reports for the Associated Press.

In Florida: State health regulators issued emergency rules aimed at clarifying which conditions qualify as exceptions to the state’s six-week abortion ban, which went into effect Wednesday, the Orlando Sentinel’s Caroline Catherman reports.

Medical conditions mentioned in the new rule include an ectopic pregnancy and a trophoblastic tumor, a rare growth that forms in the uterus. But some health-care providers criticized the rules, saying they don’t provide much clarity and include politicized language.

In Arizona: Gov. Katie Hobbs (D) signed legislation yesterday to repeal a Civil War-era ban on nearly all abortions. The Republican-controlled legislature sent the bill to her desk this week after the 1864 abortion ban was revived by the state’s highest court last month.

How one minute of squats daily can boost your brain health

Drop it low — it’s good for your health.

New research suggests that just one minute of squatting exercises could help preserve brain power.

Being sedentary, such as lounging on the couch or working at a desk job, has ill effects on overall health — say, for example, an increased risk of dementia — and while exercise can offset some of sitting’s negative impacts, new research suggests that it might help the brain, too.

The study , published in the Journal of Applied Physiology last month, found that just one minute of squatting every so often during extended periods of sitting can help cognition.

Researchers tested the effects of the exercise on a group of young adults, who sat uninterrupted for three hours and then sat for three hours and performed squats every 20 minutes.

During the trial scenarios, the team measured the blood pressure, heart rate and the blow flow to the brain through the carotid artery in intervals: 10 minutes, one hour, two hours and three hours.

Then, the participants took tests to measure cognition and executive function.

In one exam, participants took a Stroop test that asked them to indicate whether the names of colors — such as blue, red, yellow, black and green — were printed in the same, corresponding color.

Then, they completed another assessment that tested their ability to trace lines to alphanumeric combinations, such as “A-1.”

When tested after squatting periodically, the participants completed the tests more quickly, and reported more fatigue and difficulty concentrating during the trail in which they did not perform squats.

Additionally, blood flow in the carotid artery decreased by over 3% when they were only sedentary.

“[O]ur half-squat intervention may be able to be used by individuals seeking to break up their sedentary behavior in an effort to preserve cognition during times, such as in the workplace,” the study authors wrote .

Fed Says Progress on Inflation Has Stalled, Keeps Rates Steady

Follow live coverage of the fomc meeting and the jerome powell's speech today..

The Decision

The Federal Reserve acknowledged stalling progress in bringing down inflation to its 2% goal and opted to hold its benchmark interest rate at current levels.

Furthermore, Fed officials are “prepared to maintain the current target range for the federal funds rate for as long as appropriate,” Chairman Jerome Powell told reporters at the post-meeting press conference.

The central bank also said that it would slow the pace of reducing its balance sheet starting in June. That decision ensures money markets don’t experience an episode of volatility and stress as seen in September 2019, Powell noted.

Powell says rate cuts forecast is cloudy, strong employment, wages aren’t a deterrent to rate cuts, stagflation isn’t in the fed’s forecast, interest-rate increase is still unlikely, powell says fed will hold rates higher 'as long as appropriate', fed acknowledges stalling progress in inflation fight, central bank to slow balance-sheet reduction in june, fed holds rates steady, latest updates, markets continue to price in rate cuts in fall.

Expectations around when the Federal Reserve will lower interest rates this year shifted only slightly following Chair Jerome Powell’s press conference on Wednesday, indicating that investors’ views had been in line with the bank’s thinking.

The odds of September and November rate cuts improved slightly following the conclusion of the Fed’s policy meeting, prices of interest-rate futures indicate. There is currently a 42.4% probability of the first rate cut coming during the September meeting, according to the CME FedWatch Tool.

The CME FedWatch Tool also showed that there are now thin odds of a rate increase at some point during the year.

There was a “collective sigh of relief in the financial markets” after the Fed refrained from increasing its hawkishness dramatically at the May meeting, wrote Jack McIntyre, portfolio manager at Brandywine Global.

“In interpreting the statement in the context of recent macro releases, it is clear that the future path of Fed policy has become more uncertain,” wrote Daniel Murray, deputy chief investment officer and global head of research at EFG Asset Management.

“Futures are now pricing only slightly more than one rate cut this year. While it is not the central view, there is clearly also an increased probability that the Fed has to hike again,” Murray said. That scenario would likely play out if the labor market continues to show strength and inflation remains stubbornly above the bank’s 2% target.

U.S. Economy, Monetary Policy Is Diverging from Other Developed Markets, Powell Says

Nicholas Jasinski

A new phase could be on the way in terms of global monetary policy.

While economies and central banks in developed markets have been on generally the same path for most of the past four years—policymakers sought to boost growth during the pandemic and then took a more restrictive stance to fight inflation afterward—that is likely to change this year. Economic and inflation data for early 2024, plus statements by the European Central Bank, the Bank of Japan, and others, now suggest more divergent central bank policies.

“The difference between the United States and other countries that are now considering rate cuts is that they're just not having the kind of growth we're having,” Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell said on Wednesday, while inflation rates abroad may be similar to those in the U.S. or lower.

Strong growth and low unemployment in the U.S. means the Fed has the “luxury,” Powell said, of holding interest rates steady for longer to continue to put downward pressure on inflation. Other central banks may be able to declare victory over inflation sooner than the Fed, but may also have to respond to weakening economic growth sooner.

“We will be careful and cautious as we approach the decision to cut rates, whereas I think other jurisdictions may go before that,” Powell said.

Higher interest rates for longer in the U.S., relative to abroad, are a recipe for a strong dollar. The U.S. Dollar Index, which measures the dollar against a basket of other currencies, is up 4.5% so far this year.

As for emerging markets, Powell said that he sees less turmoil than in previous periods of higher Fed interest rates. “I think partly that’s because emerging market countries, many of them have much better monetary policy frameworks, much more credibility on inflation, and they're navigating this pretty well this time,” Powell said.

Unemployment Ticking Above 4% Likely Won’t Trigger Cuts

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said Wednesday policymakers are ready to spring into action if the U.S. economy, particularly the labor market, experiences a sudden downturn.

But the key words are “unexpected weakening,” and the Fed would likely need to see more than simply the unemployment rate climbing above 4% from its current level of 3.8%.

“It would have to be meaningful and get our attention—and lead us to think that the labor market was really significantly weakening for us to want to react to it,” Powell said.

He added that unemployment increasing by a “a couple of tenths” of a percentage point would probably not do that.

“It would be a broader thing that would suggest that it would be appropriate to consider cutting” interest rates, Powell said. He added that the decision by Fed officials to lower rates depends on all the facts and circumstances, not just that one.

1 Minute Speech on the Importance of Mental Health In English

A very good morning to one and all present here. Today, I will be giving a small speech on the topic of the importance of mental health.

When the talk of health issues arises, everyone immediately assumes it to be an ailment or illness pertaining to the body on a physical level. Health, however, also pertains to mental health which is equally, if not more, important.

Google defines the term mental health to be “a person’s condition with regard to their psychological and emotional well-being.” Simply put, it is a state of one’s mind.

Maintaining good mental health is very important in one’s life. Giving in to too much stress and anxiety without taking proper care of it leads to severe impacts such as depression and even suicide.

In order to maintain good mental health, one must change their lifestyle if it proves to be very strenuous on their mind. Indulging in yoga, meditation, listening to music, and reading are some ways that help.

Thank you.
