I request you all to pardon my mistakes and correct me if I am wrong.

Today, on National Unity Day, we honor Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, who was one of the most important people in bringing our country together. Sardar Patel was an important lawyer and politician from India. From 1947 to 1950, he was India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and first Home Minister. He was one of the most significant figures in the country’s fight for freedom. Sardar Patel’s skill as a leader and his unshakable belief in unity were key factors in bringing together more than 500 princely states to form independent India. His intelligent ways of dealing and his strong will made it possible for us to live in a united and prosperous country today. In 2014, the Government of India decided that National Unity Day should be held every year on October 31 (birth anniversary of Sardar Patel). On National Unity Day, many events are held all over the nation. People pay respect to Sardar Patel by putting flowers on his statue. The government also puts on events like the oath-taking ceremony, the march past, and the “Run for Unity” marathon all over the country. In schools and colleges, many culture programmes are organised.

However, it is very important that we learn what National Unity Day is all about. It’s not just a day to remember our unity; it’s also a day to think about ourselves and our communities and bring back the spirit of unity. It tells us that we are stronger, more powerful, and able to reach great heights when we work together. On this day, we should try to get over the differences between us, whether they are based on religion, caste, language, or area. Let’s celebrate diversity and see it as a valuable tool that makes our society stronger. National Unity Day is a chance for everyone in India to celebrate the country’s many different cultures. It’s a day to show that we care about, understand, and value our fellow citizens. By celebrating our shared values, traditions, and history, we show that we are all, in the end, part of one big Indian family. On National Unity Day, let’s remember the great Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel by making a new promise to unity and peace. Let us pledge to put aside our differences and work together to make India a better place for present as well as future generations.

With these words, I would like to end my speech. Thanks a lot to everyone for listening me so patiently. Jai Hind! Jai Bharat!

National Unity Day Speech in English

A long speech on National Unity Day in English is provided below. The same can be delivered on the function to celebrate the day in schools, colleges or any institution.

Good morning everyone presented here. Today on the occasion of national unity day, I am going to express my feelings and the importance of a strong unified nation.

National Unity Day is celebrated every year on the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel which falls on  31st October . Narendra Modi as the Chief Minister of Gujarat had flagged off a project for the construction of a 182-meter statue of Sardar Patel when he became Prime Minister. The Ministry of Home Affairs issued orders to celebrate National Unity Day in 2014. This day should be celebrated on 31st October only on the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel. Sardar Patel is the only great person who has made the biggest contribution to the making of Akhand Bharat. It is the contribution of Sardar Patel that today people of many languages and religions live in unity in India. There will be hardly any country in the world where people of many religions and languages will live together. The merger of more than 500 princely states into India was an impossible task that Sardar Patel had done on his own.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of India . He was the mastermind of the political integration of India. The celebration of his birthday as World Unity Day has two important purposes – firstly to call Sardar Patel the Iron Man of India and secondly to remind us of our integration and unity.

National Unity means the attainment of collective identity among the residents of a country. It shows that even though we all belong to different religions, regions, and castes and speak different languages we should always feel that we are all one. The feeling of unity is important to build a prosperous and strong nation. The real meaning of unity is the existence of a plurality of identities with a unifying thread.  Benjamin Franklin said – “National unity is the unification of the people of the whole country for a common identity.”

It was assumed that India with such a huge diversity could not stay together. Due to these religious and cultural differences, our country became a slave to the British. Now that our country is free from external threats and internal discontent, it is our first and foremost responsibility to preserve its integrity and honour.

The day was also important for the Indian Administrative Services as he introduced the “ modern All India Service System”  that was formerly known as the Indian Civil Service. Officers of the Indian Administrative Services assemble to pay their respects to Sardar Patel as the ‘Patron Saint of the Civil Servants of India’.

The peace prosperity and unity of a country are important for its development of the country India has a unique feature that people of different castes, religions and sects live here, and different languages are spoken in different regions, yet we Indians understand each other well, respect them, and support each other in happiness and sorrow. Give and live happily together.

Today there is a need to explain to the youth of the country how important unity is for the country. In such a situation, it is very important to have  National Unity Day.  Such days inspire the youth to think in this direction.

In today’s time, unity has been broken in such a way that its importance should first be understood by the family, which is the smallest unit of society because today there is no unity in families. That is why there is no unity in society and if there is no unity in society then how can we expect unity in the village, city, state and country?

It is necessary for unity that today’s generation and the earlier generation should express their mutual views, and make each other aware of their position. Also, talks should be started only in the hope of a solution. There is no solution to the disputes that take place over generations, every person believes himself to be right, in such a situation, families are broken, so it is necessary that there should be a conversation and there should be such an environment that every member of the family can speak his mind and a solution can be found. Families are easy to break up. It is difficult for them to live together and the effect of these broken families is also on the country.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birthday is an occasion to remember his efforts and honour his desire and vision for a united India. He was the  soul of our unity and integrity.

National unity day speech in hindi (राष्ट्रीय एकता दिवस पर भाषण).

A long speech on National Unity Day in Hindi is provided below.

Why We Love National Unity Day

It’s a reminder of true vision.

A true visionary, Sardar Patel is credited for the unification of India post-independence. India is more unified today because of his vision, despite the colonial rulers’ wish that it is to be disintegrated into smaller states after Independence. We can all take inspiration from a leader with a sincere and dedicated vision for his country.

We are inspired by the importance of unity

Rashtriya Ekta Diwas is all about unifying the people of India. But, we can all get inspired by Sardar Patel’s drive to remove distinctions between us as human beings. In fact, one of Sardar Patel’s most popular quotes mentions this. He said, “We have to shed mutual bickering, shed the difference of being high or low and develop the sense of equality and banish untouchability.”

The way of non-violent disobedience

Like many great leaders who believed in non-violence as a way to stand up against the oppressors, Sardar Patel also maintained this notion during the Independence struggle and beyond. He believed that ‘non-violence has to be observed in thought, word and deed’ and the ‘measure of non-violence is the measure of success.’ That’s a leader which any person can be inspired by.

Welcome, principal sir, teachers, and dear friends, to the honourable chief guest. As you are all aware, today is National Unity Day, and on this special occasion, I am writing a few words about the significance of National Unity Day. I hope you enjoyed and were inspired by this speech of mine.

Every year on October 31st, National Unity Day commemorates the birth anniversary of India’s Iron Man, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Sardar Patel is the only great person who has made the greatest contribution to the formation of United India, as a result of which our country is united today. Even in that century, Sardar Patel was a forward-thinking individual, much like today’s youth. There were over 500 princely states in our country after we gained independence in 1947, but Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel integrated these princely states into the country with his clear policy. India is the only country where people of various religions, sects, and castes coexist in peace and harmony. Our country is united in its diversity, and this is its greatest strength. Sardar Patel’s efforts have made all of this possible. We will never forget what he has done for us. To honour Sardar Patel, his birthday is observed as National Unity Day (Rashtriya Ekta Diwas).

The strength of any country lies in its unity, and the development of any country is only possible because of peace, prosperity, and unity. National integration promotes the development of people while also assisting in the formation of a strong country. As a result, the most distinguishing feature of our country is that all Indians here live together without discrimination. People of various castes, religions, and sects live here, and different languages are spoken in different regions, but we Indians understand each other well, respect each other, and support each other in joy and sorrow.

The significance of National Unity Day should be understood by all citizens. We and our country will be safe only if all Indians work together. Finally, I’d like to emphasise the importance of Indian unity for the country’s unity and national security. As a result, on this auspicious occasion, we all Indians swear that we will always uphold India’s unity and integrity. (Jai Hind, Jai Bharat).

Good morning, everyone! Greetings, my name is XYZ. Today is National Unity Day, and I am honoured to raise awareness through my words by giving a speech on National Unity Day. National Unity Day, also known as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, is observed on October 31st, the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He was an Indian statesman, politician, and freedom fighter who was instrumental in India’s political integration.

Sardar Patel’s Tribute

Sardar Patel was India’s first Deputy Prime Minister, and he was instrumental in bringing small kingdoms into the Indian Union. He was a well-known social activist and freedom fighter associated with the Indian National Congress prior to independence. He led the Gujarat Satyagraha and was involved in the non-cooperation and Quit-India movements.

Though Sardar Patel was a well-known freedom fighter, his role as an administrator during and after India’s independence is more important. When the British left India, nearly 565 independent princely states gained independence. Sardar Patel, who was also the Home Minister at the time, persuaded these states to join the Union of India.

He tried every trick in the book, convincing some and threatening military action when necessary. He refused to give up his vision and dream of a single united India across its entire length and breadth. Sardar Patel’s tenacity in achieving a united India earned him the moniker “Iron Man of India.”

On the anniversary of his birth, National Unity Day honours his desire for a politically and culturally integrated India.

First National Unity Day

In 2014, the Home Ministry issued an official notification declaring October 31st, Sardar Patel’s birth anniversary, as National Unity Day every year.

According to the Ministry’s official statement, “the observance of national unity day will provide an opportunity to reaffirm our nation’s inherent strength and resilience to withstand actual and potential threats to our country’s unity, integrity, and security.”

In 2014, events were held across the country to commemorate Sardar Patel’s 139th birthday. Run for Unity events were held in cities such as Delhi, Nagpur, and Mumbai. Several politicians and athletes attended the events. Mr. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, and Vice President Venkaiah Naidu paid tribute to Sardar Patel at Patel Chowk in New Delhi.

Commemorative events were also held at Indian embassies around the world. People congratulated Sardar Patel and remembered his contribution to India’s integration.

Activities & Celebrations

On National Unity Day, a variety of events are planned in educational institutions, schools, government offices, and other locations. In this regard, both the federal and state governments issue guidelines to the relevant organisations.

Special commemorative events are held in schools, where children pay their respects to Sardar Patel and speak about his will and determination to create a politically integrated India.

On October 31, 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a 182-meter-long statue of Sardar Patel in Gujarat. It is 150 kilometres from Surat and faces the Sardar Sarovar Dam. On National Unity Day, thousands of people from all over India come to pay their respects to Sardar Patel at the statue and museum.

A fitting tribute is also paid to Sardar Patel in Parliament, by members of both the ruling and opposition parties.

Sardar Patel was India’s unifier, responsible for its political integration on his own. We would not be united as we are today if he did not have an unwavering commitment to a united India. National Unity Day is a fitting tribute to India’s Iron Man and his resolve.

Short Speech on National Unity Day

Greetings to all! As you are all aware, today is National Unity Day. In honor of this significant day, I would like to present a National Unity Day speech.

Every year on October 31st, National Unity Day is observed to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, known as the Iron Man of India. The only notable individual who had the greatest impact in creating the united India that exists now was Sardar Patel. Even in that century, Sardar Patel was a forward-thinking individual like today’s kids. More than 500 princely kingdoms existed in our country after we gained independence in 1947, but Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel successfully incorporated these states with his well-defined approach.

India is the only nation in the world where people from many faiths, religions, and castes coexist in peace and harmony. Our nation’s greatest strength is its ability to find unity in its diversity. Only Sardar Patel’s efforts could have made all of this happen. We shall always remember his contribution. We commemorate Sardar Patel’s birthday as National Unity Day as a mark of respect (Rashtriya Ekta Diwas).

Any nation’s unity is its greatest asset, and peace, prosperity, and unity are the only conditions necessary for any nation to develop. The development of a strong nation is aided by national integration, which also supports individual growth. All Indians in this land coexist without discrimination, hence our nation’s most distinguishing characteristic. Here, people of all castes, religions, and sects coexist with one another. Different languages are also spoken in various parts of the country. Still, we Indians nevertheless get along well with one another, respect them, and stand by each other in good times and bad.

The significance of National Unity Day should be understood by all of us citizens. Only until there is harmony among all Indians will we, and our nation, be safe. I’d want to conclude by saying that we Indians as a whole should constantly stand together for the country’s unity and security. We all Indians, therefore, take this oath today on this auspicious day to always uphold India’s unity and integrity.

Joe Biden’s inauguration speech transcript, annotated

President Biden pleaded for national unity in his inaugural address Wednesday after he was sworn in as the 46th president. Below is a full transcript of his remarks, with analysis from The Fix team.

Chief Justice Roberts, Vice President Harris. Speaker Pelosi, Leaders Schumer, McConnell, Vice President Pence, my distinguished guests and my fellow Americans, this is America’s day.

This is democracy’s day. A day of history and hope of renewal and resolve through a crucible for the ages. America has been tested anew and America has risen to the challenge. Today, we celebrate the triumph not of a candidate, but of a cause, the cause of democracy. The people, the will of the people, has been heard and the will of the people has been heeded.

We’ve learned again that democracy is precious. Democracy is fragile. At this hour, my friends, democracy has prevailed 1 .

1 Throughout the speech, Biden intersperses the idea that democracy and our system of government have triumphed over threats, while acknowledging that victory isn't final. — Aaron Blake

From now, on this hallowed ground, where just a few days ago, violence sought to shake the Capitol’s very foundation, we come together as one nation, under God, indivisible, to carry out the peaceful transfer of power, as we have for more than two centuries.

As we look ahead in our uniquely American way: restless, bold, optimistic, and set our sights on the nation we can be and we must be.

I thank my predecessors of both parties for their presence 2 here today. I thank them from the bottom of my heart. And I know, I know the resilience of our Constitution and the strength, the strength of our nation. As does President Carter, who I spoke with last night, who cannot be with us today, but whom we salute for his lifetime of service.

2 Mike Pence, who succeeded Biden as vice president, attended the inauguration, as did former presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama. President Trump did not attend, in a major break from the traditional ceremony of transfer of power. — Eugene Scott

I’ve just taken the sacred oath each of those patriots have taken. The oath, first sworn by George Washington. But the American story depends not on any one of us, not on some of us, but on all of us, on we the people who seek a more perfect union.

This is a great nation. We are good people. And over the centuries, through storm and strife, in peace and in war, we've come so far. But we still have far to go. We'll press forward with speed and urgency, for we have much to do in this winter of peril and significant possibilities, much to repair, much to restore, much to heal, much to build, and much to gain.

Few people in our nation’s history have been more challenged or found a time more challenging or difficult than the time we’re in now. A once-in-a-century virus that silently stalks the country. It’s taken as many lives in one year as America lost in all of World War II. Millions of jobs have been lost. Hundreds of thousands of businesses closed. A cry for racial justice, some 400 years in the making, moves us. The dream of justice for all will be deferred no longer.

The cry for survival comes from the planet itself, 3 a cry that can’t be any more desperate or any more clear. And now a rise of political extremism, white supremacy, domestic terrorism that we must confront and we will defeat.

3 The Biden administration has pledged to make climate change a priority in his administration, starting with undoing many of Trump’s environmental decisions via executive order and rejoining the Paris climate accord in his first days in office. — E.S.

To overcome these challenges, to restore the soul and secure the future of America requires so much more than words. It requires the most elusive of all things in a democracy: Unity. Unity.

In another January, on New Year’s Day in 1863, Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. When he put pen to paper, the president said, and I quote: “If my name ever goes down into history, it’ll be for this act. And my whole soul is in it.”

My whole soul was in it today. On this January day, my whole soul is in this: Bringing America together, uniting our people, uniting our nation. And I ask every American to join me in this cause.

Uniting to fight the foes we face: anger, resentment, hatred, extremism, lawlessness, violence, disease, joblessness and hopelessness. With unity, we can do great things, important things. We can right wrongs. We can put people to work in good jobs. We can teach our children in safe schools. We can overcome the deadly virus. We can reward, reward work, and rebuild the middle class and make health care secure for all. We can deliver racial justice and we can make America once again the leading force for good in the world.

I know speaking of unity can sound to some like a foolish fantasy these days. I know the forces that divide us are deep and they are real, but I also know they are not new. Our history has been a constant struggle between the American ideal that we're all created equal and the harsh, ugly reality that racism, nativism, fear, demonization have long torn us apart. The battle is perennial and victory is never assured.

Through civil war, the Great Depression, world war, 9/11, through struggle, sacrifice and setbacks, our better angels have always prevailed. In each of these moments, enough of us have come together to carry all of us forward. And we can do that now. History, faith and reason show the way, the way of unity. We can see each other not as adversaries, but as neighbors. We can treat each other with dignity and respect. We can join forces, stop the shouting and lower the temperature. For without unity, there is no peace — only bitterness and fury. No progress — only exhausting outrage. No nation — only a state of chaos.

This is our historic moment of crisis and challenge. And unity is the path forward. And we must meet this moment as the United States of America. If we do that, I guarantee you we will not fail. We have never, ever, ever, ever failed in America when we’ve acted together. 4

4 This was Biden's most pronounced appeal to unity. It will be difficult to make it happen, though — not just because of the faction of the Republican Party that remains loyal to Trump, but because of the historically close balance of power in the House and Senate. The Senate is 50-50, and the House is the closest it's been in about two decades. Any legislation will have to run through the political middle, but there are always political incentives to preventing a president from accomplishing things — notably, to argue they failed so your party's nominee might replace them. — A.B.

And so today at this time in this place, let’s start afresh, all of us. Let’s begin to listen to one another again. Hear one another, see one another, show respect to one another. Politics doesn’t have to be a raging fire, destroying everything in its path. Every disagreement doesn’t have to be a cause for total war. And we must reject the culture in which facts themselves are manipulated and even manufactured.

My fellow Americans, we have to be different than this. America has to be better than this. And I believe America is so much better than this. Just look around. Here we stand in the shadow of the Capitol dome, as was mentioned earlier, completed amid the Civil War, when the Union itself was literally hanging in the balance. Yet we endured, we prevailed.

Here we stand looking out on the great Mall where Dr. King spoke of his dream. Here we stand, where 108 years ago, at another inaugural, thousands of protesters tried to block brave women marching for the right to vote. And today we marked the swearing-in of the first woman in American history elected to national office: Vice President Kamala Harris. Don’t tell me things can’t change. 5

5 Biden pledged during his primary campaign to make history with his running mate pick, saying he’d only consider women. He followed through on that by selecting a lawmaker from one of the demographic groups who supported him the most — Black women — and the fastest growing minority group in the United States — Asian Americans. — E.S.

Here we stand across the Potomac from Arlington Cemetery, where heroes who gave the last full measure of devotion rest in eternal peace. And here we stand just days after a riotous mob thought they could use violence to silence the will of the people 6 , to stop the work of our democracy, to drive us from this sacred ground.

6 Biden won the popular vote by 7 million votes, as well as winning the electoral college. The election results were affirmed repeatedly in courts as not having been marred by any widespread fraud. But the rioters who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 claimed otherwise, and former president Donald Trump never fully acknowledged this was the case. — E.S.

It did not happen. It will never happen. Not today, not tomorrow, not ever. Not ever.

To all those who supported our campaign, I’m humbled by the faith you’ve placed in us. To all those who did not support us, let me say this: Hear me out as we move forward. Take a measure of me and my heart. If you still disagree, so be it. That’s democracy. That’s America. The right to dissent, peaceably, the guardrails of our republic, is perhaps this nation’s greatest strength.

Yet hear me clearly: Disagreement must not lead to disunion. And I pledge this to you: I will be a president for all Americans. 7 All Americans. And I promise you I will fight as hard for those who did not support me as for those who did.

7 Biden’s pledge to reach across the aisle on policy and to earn the support of those who did not back him, rather than primarily viewing them as political enemies, was a mainstay of his candidacy, and it was a major theme of his address. — E.S.

Many centuries ago, St. Augustine, a saint in my church, wrote that a people was a multitude defined by the common objects of their love. Defined by the common objects of their love. What are the common objects we as Americans love, that define us as Americans? I think we know. Opportunity, security, liberty, dignity, respect, honor and, yes, the truth.

Recent weeks and months have taught us a painful lesson. There is truth and there are lies, lies told for power and for profit. And each of us has a duty and responsibility, as citizens, as Americans, and especially as leaders, leaders who have pledged to honor our Constitution and protect our nation, to defend the truth and defeat the lies. 8

8 This is one of the prominent features of Biden's speech: While calling for unity, an acknowledgment that some of his opponents aren't on the level and that their influence must be dealt with. Biden didn't use his speech to call out individuals who purveyed the theory that his win wasn't legitimate, but he seems to recognize that, without addressing the proliferation of falsehoods, his agenda will be difficult to enact. For a man who emphasizes conciliation, it was certainly a notable choice. — A.B.

Look — I understand that many of my fellow Americans view the future with fear and trepidation. I understand they worry about their jobs. I understand, like my dad, they lay in bed at night, staring at the ceiling, wondering: Can I keep my health care? Can I pay my mortgage? Thinking about their families, about what comes next. I promise you, I get it.

But the answer is not to turn inward, to retreat into competing factions, distrusting those who don’t look like you or worship the way you do, or don’t get their news from the same sources you do. We must end this uncivil war 9 that pits red against blue, rural vs. urban, conservative vs. liberal. We can do this if we open our souls instead of hardening our hearts. If we show a little tolerance and humility, and if we’re willing to stand in the other person’s shoes, as my mom would say, just for a moment, stand in their shoes. Because here’s the thing about life: There’s no accounting for what fate will deal you. Some days when you need a hand. There are other days when we’re called to lend a hand. That’s how it has to be. That’s what we do for one another. And if we are this way, our country will be stronger, more prosperous, more ready for the future. And we can still disagree.

9 One of the most memorable lines of the speech — and one that conjures images of the ugliest chapter in American history, which has to have been part of the calculation. It's Obama-esque, but also a realistic description of the nature of our politics. — A.B.

My fellow Americans, in the work ahead of us, we’re going to need each other. We need all our strength to persevere through this dark winter. We’re entering what may be the toughest and deadliest period of the virus. We must set aside politics and finally face this pandemic as one nation. One nation 10 .

10 The events of the past two months have in many ways papered over the size of the challenge ahead for Biden's administration, especially with regard to the coronavirus pandemic. Calls to "set aside politics" are boilerplate, but Biden acknowledges how much uglier it's likely to get as we refocus on fighting the virus, rather than a threat to our democracy. — A.B.

And I promise you this, as the Bible says: “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” We will get through this together. Together.

Look, folks. All my colleagues I served with in the House and the Senate up there, we all understand the world is watching, watching all of us today. So here’s my message to those beyond our borders: 11 America has been tested and we’ve come out stronger for it. We will repair our alliances and engage with the world once again. Not to meet yesterday’s challenges, but today’s and tomorrow’s challenges. And we’ll lead, not merely by the example of our power, but by the power of our example.

11 Biden signals that the standoffish posture toward allies from the Trump administration is a thing of the past, as the United States' reputation has reached a new low, and that America can be trusted again to abide by its agreements. Biden is set to rejoin the Paris climate accord and the World Health Organization, which Trump pulled out of. A big question is how he handles the Iran deal that Trump left. — A.B.

We’ll be a strong and trusted partner for peace, progress and security. Look — you all know we’ve been through so much in this nation. And my first act as president, I’d like to ask you to join me in a moment of silent prayer to remember all those who we lost this past year to the pandemic. Those 400,000 fellow Americans. Moms, dads, husbands, wives, sons, daughters, friends, neighbors and co-workers. We will honor them by becoming the people and the nation we know we can and should be. So I ask you, let’s say a silent prayer for those who’ve lost their lives, those left behind, and for our country. 12

12 An acknowledgement of the biggest task that lies ahead. — A.B.

Folks, this is a time of testing. We face an attack on our democracy and on truth, a raging virus, growing inequity, the sting of systemic racism, a climate in crisis, America’s role in the world. Any one of these will be enough to challenge us in profound ways. But the fact is, we face them all at once, presenting this nation with one of the gravest responsibilities we’ve had. Now we’re going to be tested. Are we going to step up? All of us? It’s time for boldness, for there is so much to do. And this is certain, I promise you: We will be judged, you and I, by how we resolve these cascading crises of our era.

Will we rise to the occasion is the question. Will we master this rare and difficult hour? Will we meet our obligations and pass along a new and better world to our children? I believe we must. I’m sure you do as well. I believe we will. And when we do, we’ll write the next great chapter in the history of the United States of America. The American story. A story that might sound something like a song that means a lot to me. It’s called “American Anthem.” There’s one verse that stands out, at least for me, and it goes like this:

The work and prayers of a century have brought us to this day.

What shall be our legacy? What will our children say?

Let me know in my heart when my days are through.

America, America, I gave my best to you.

Let's add. Let us add our own work and prayers to the unfolding story of our great nation. If we do this, then when our days are through, our children and our children's children will say of us: They gave their best, they did their duty, they healed a broken land.

My fellow Americans, I close the day where I began, with a sacred oath before God and all of you. I give you my word, I will always level with you. I will defend the Constitution. I’ll defend our democracy. I’ll defend America and I will give all, all of you. Keep everything I do in your service, thinking not of power, but of possibilities, not of personal interest, but the public good. And together we shall write an American story of hope, not fear. Of unity, not division. Of light, not darkness. A story of decency and dignity, love and healing, greatness and goodness. May this be the story that guides us. The story that inspires us and the story that tells ages yet to come that we answered the call of history. We met the moment. Democracy and hope, truth and justice did not die on our watch, but thrived. That America secured liberty at home and stood once again as a beacon to the world. That is what we owe our forebears, one another and generations to follow.

So, with purpose and resolve, we turn to those tasks of our time. Sustained by faith, driven by conviction, devoted to one another and the country we love with all our hearts. May God bless America and may God protect our troops. Thank you, America.

Speech On Unity for Students and Children

Speech on unity.

Unity is an important element for the society we live in, as we all together form this whole nation. “Strength is always with the Unity” is a well-known phrase and it is totally true. Unity represents togetherness and being there for each other like we all are one. Therefore, in unity, everyone stands together for every big and small problem. There are several stories as well as there are many real-life incidences that are proof that unity always leads a harmonious and satisfying life for everyone. On the other hand, many people still don’t get the benefits and concepts of unity. People fight over insignificant and stupid things and in the end, they end up with loneliness and emptiness. Speech On Unity

Help and Support: People help and support each other. On the other hand, living in separation can make anyone feel insecure and shy and that’s not a good thing to happen to anyone.

Good Guidance: It is a true fact that when we stay in unity then we may get guidance from others, for both personal and professional matters including the solutions also.

Proper Growth: Staying in unity is always good for our growth and as well as for the development of the nation. Moreover, it is also good for the members of the family in particular and all-round development of the kids.

Source of Motivation: When we work or perform any task together, we get motivated and encouraged to work harder with each other. Also, we motivate each other to achieve the goals and this teamwork results in a great motivational factor.

Greater Accomplishment: Whenever we work together as a team, we easily accomplish superior goals which are sometimes not possible alone.

Fighting a Mission: Fighting any mission becomes much easier when we have a number of people involved in the mission. The Indian national movement for freedom is the best example of unity. Many unfair practices have been fought and removed in the past only because of the unity among the people.

Role of Government in the Development of Unity

Unity can only be achieved when an individual is ready to sacrifice his/her individual interests and work for the betterment of the country as a whole with coordination. Undoubtedly the spirit of unity should be inborn. The government can play an essential role in the process of building unity among the public. Few steps by which we can achieve unity are as follows:

End Corruption: A nation can never be wealthy and in a better condition if it’s political system is full of corruption. So, we should choose the political leaders with the utmost care and analysis.

Lower Economic Disparity : There is a lot of economic disparity present in our nation. As we all can see that rich people are becoming richer day by day and the poor people are getting even poorer.

The word unity is a five-letter word but has a huge meaning that we all should know. Unity is the need of the hour. In every country, people need unity to survive. If people will not unite, they will become weak alone and then they will be facing a lot of problems. A group of people is always greater than a single person that is alone, in all means.

We should always help and support other people who need help and we should always stand together in every situation. People help someone only when they get help from that person in their good or bad times. So, we should coordinate with each other and always stay united. Unity is something that makes the weaker one strong.

National Unity day

speech on national unity day

National Unity day (also known as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas) is celebrated every year on 31st of October by the people all through India. It is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel who really unified the country. Rashtriya Ekta Diwas or National Unity Day was introduced by the Government of India in 2014 with the aim of celebrating this event every year on 31st October. The aim of introducing this event is to pay tribute to the great man, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, on his birth anniversary by remembering his extraordinary works for the country. He really worked hard in keeping India united.

National Unity Day (or Rashtriya Ekta Diwas) is the birthday (birth anniversary) of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a famous personality for uniting India. This day was decided and introduced by the central government of India in New Delhi in 2014 in order to observe the birth anniversary of Patel every year as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas. It aimed to pay tribute to him for his great efforts made to unite India.

This day was inaugurated in 2014 by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, by paying floral tributes at the statue of Sardar Patel and flagging off a program known as ‘Run For Unity’ in New Delhi. This program was planned to highlight the efforts made by Sardar Patel for uniting country. At this day, a nationwide marathon is organized to increase awareness about Rashtriya Ekta Diwas and remember the great person.

Celebration of this occasion annually helps youth of the country to be aware of and provides an opportunity to everyone to maintain the integral strength of the nation. It makes Indian citizens to realize that how a national integrity helps in defeating the actual and potential threats for unity, integrity and security of the nation.

How National Unity Day is Celebrated

Third event organized at this day is march past by the police (central armed police forces including scouts, guides, NCC, NSS, home guards, etc) on the streets of major cities and district towns. Somewhere, a pledge taking ceremony is held after the march past of police.

Students from various schools and colleges also perform variety of cultural activities including banners and posters making in order to spread the message of unity and security, essay writing, speech reciting, quiz competition, paintings, rhyme recitation, art making competition, debate on the related topic, etc. The main objective of organizing variety of programmes at this day is to promote national integration among citizens of the India as well as maintain the unity and integrity of the country.

It has been requested by the Ministry of Human Resource Development to administer pledge taking in the schools and colleges so that students can be motivated and maintain the unity and integrity of the country in future. Thus, a notice has been issued by the Central Board of Secondary Education to administer the pledge in the schools.

Almost 250 centre coordinators has been appointed by the CBSE in schools all across India in order to organize the event in which more than 400-500 students come from the neighborhood schools at each centre to participate in the mass activities. Speech 1 – Best Speech on National Unity Day in English – 31 October 2023

Very Good Morning to Everybody !

I Vedant from class 10 thanks to our respected Principal Sir and Teachers for giving me the opportunity to speak on the occasion of ‘National Unity Day’ . It is true when people say that a leader is not one who controls followers but someone who is of the people and serves the country with his actions.

The world is remembering today Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel ‘The Iron Man of India’ and ‘The father of United India’ on his 149th birth anniversary also celebrated as the ‘National Unity Day’ (Rashtriya Ekta Diwas). Since 2014, on 31st October National Unity Day is observed to celebrate the efforts and sacrifices of Sardar Patel.

Sardar patel was highly respected for his leadership in uniting 562 princely states to form the single union of India. On this day, the government conduct ‘Run for Unity’ to mark the birth anniversary of Iron Man. When Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi recalled the mantra of “Ek Bharat, Shresth Bharat”, he said that Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel gave us ‘Ek Bharat’ (United India) and we should all work towards creating ‘Shrestha Bharat’.

Undoubtedly Sardar Patel is most famous for uniting India as a whole. He has said “By common endeavor we can raise the country to a new greatness, while lack of unity will expose us to fresh calamities”. The map of modern India as we see today wouldn’t have been possible wothout the pro-activeness, diplomacy and hard work of Sardar patel. He was the first Deputy Prime Minister, a political pragmatic, a diplomat and a military commander at the same time.

By 1946, he made his mark in the Kheda and Bardoli Satyagrahas and became one of the most popular leaders of the freedom struggle, during this time he earned the title ‘SARDAR’ . He was simple and stoic in his habits. Sardar was a man of few words but when he did talk, people listened. In the era, when leadership was divided in ideological battles. Mahatma Gandhi even remarked, “The problem of the states is so difficult that you alone can solve it” And Sardar Patel merged princely states with the Union of India and prevented the Balkanisation of newly Independent Country.

He emphasised the importance building up a strong character by young men and women to lead a nation toward greatness. They believed that success can be achieved through discipline, hard work and unity among people. Once he quoted, “Discipline and Organization mean half the battle won.” There is a lot we can learn from this brave man who fought selflessly for the nation and it’s people.

Thank you to All.

Speech 2 – Best Speech on National Unity Day in English – 31 October 2023

Dear Colleagues, Friends, Guests, Ladies & Gentlemen,

It is a great honour and privilege for me to join all of you in paying homage and tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 1 49 th  birth anniversary today which is celebrated as the National Unity Day or  Rashtriya Ekta Divas  every year. Sardar Patel was born on 31 st  October, 1875 at Karamsad in the State of Gujarat. We also pay homage to Late Prime Minister of India Smt. Indira Gandhi on her death anniversary today. She was, as you all know, assassinated today in 1984.

A lawyer by profession, Sardar Patel jumped into the freedom struggle of India under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi. The key role played by him in the Bardoli Satyagraha in 1928 elevated him to greater heights and earned him the epithet of ‘Sardar’ – a title which goes with his name even today. For my friends, ‘Sardar’ means ‘Leader’ . Sardar Patel went on to become an important pillar of our freedom movement. He played a major role that led to the emergence of an independent India on 15 th  August, 1947.

Sardar Patel was sworn in as the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of India. There were, however, several problems that our leaders encountered which needed to be resolved to complete the process of unification of India. There were 565 Princely States in India then and the rulers of these States were given the choice to either join India or Pakistan. A separate States Ministry was also formed and Sardar Patel assumed the charge of this Ministry . He took upon himself the task of ensuring that these princely States were brought into the Union of India. The rest as we know is history, as one by one the princely states, including those of Hyderabad, Kashmir and Junagarh, were integrated into the Union of India. Sardar Patel played a key role in this unification process. Also known as the ‘Iron Man of India’ for his strong will, courage and conviction, the Government has decided to observe 31 st  October as the National Unity Day to pay respects to the man who symbolizes national unity of India.

India is a diverse country but unity runs through this diversity. The Statue of Unity at Kevadia – the tallest statue in the world at 182 metres – is the country’s homage to Sardar Patel – the architect of a united India. It was dedicated to the nation by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today in 2018. I had the privilege of being in Kevadia a week ago. You can see a miniature of this statue here.

While addressing the nation on 15 th  August this year from the Red Fort, the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has directed us to focus our attention on the ‘Panch Pran’ and take five Pledges for the next 25 years. One of these vows outlined by the Prime Minister is unity and solidarity of the country. If there is love and harmony amongst the people of India, we will have unity and that will be our strength. The idea of ‘Ek Bharat Shresth Bharat’ propounded by the Prime Minister has unity as its core theme.

The National Unity Day has acquired greater significance this year since we are celebrating Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, that is, 75 years of attainment of Independence by India. A week-long celebration has started in India from 25 th  October with the involvement of all States and Union Territories and Ministries and Departments of the Government to honour the patriotism of Sardar Patel and to reinforce his teachings and values. We have set-up this exhibition to mark this occasion and to give you a glimpse of his great life. We will be also forming a unity chain with all of you joining hands with us.

We are grateful to all of you for finding time out of your busy schedule to join us today in recalling the significant role and contribution of Sardar Patel in the unification of India. Let us work towards dedicating ourselves to remain united and work towards building bonhomie and friendship amongst us which would be a fitting tribute to the Iron Man of India.

I thank you all.

Rangatahi across Taranaki have spoken up against racism as part of an annual speech competition.

Regional heats for the 2024 Race Unity Speech Awards took place across the motu in late March, with hundreds of senior high school students putting forward their own ideas on how to challenge and stand up against racism.

In Taranaki, two regional heats took place, with five speakers at each event. This year’s theme for the speeches was Te Taura Tangata – The Rope of Unity, an urge for more collaboration from the wider community on racial unity.

National programme manager, Sandra Paymani, said every year the standard of speeches gets higher.

“The personal stories and experiences that are shared are both heart-breaking and heart-warming,” she said, reflecting on the fact many student included their own experiences of racism in their speeches.

“The courage our rangatahi show in speaking out against racism is astounding.”

The New Plymouth event took place at New Plymouth District Council chambers, with judges Saba Afzal (Ministry of Ethnic Communities), Ming Yin (a member of the Bahá'í community) and Sgt Kayanna Holley (NZ Police) tasked with selecting the winner and runner up.

Alfie Healion, of New Plymouth Boys High School was named winner of the New Plymouth heat, and he will head to Auckland for the next part of the competition in May this year.

Alfie Healion, a year 12 New Plymouth Boys’ High School student was named winner, and Lukas Stronhmeier, a year 11 student from Francis Douglas, named runner-up.

Lukas Stronhmeier, a year 11 student from Francis Douglas, was named runner up in the North Taranaki regional heats in this year's Race Unity Speech Awards competition.

In Hāwera the speech competition took place in the South Taranaki District Council chambers, with Diana Reid (South Taranaki District councillor), Russell Hockley (Tui Ora) and Sergeant Olivia Neustroski (NZ Police) in the judge’s seats.

Evita Morellan, a year 11 Te Paepae o Aotea student was named winner, and Pagan Hira, a year 13 Te Paepae o Aotea student was runner-up.

Alfie and Evita are two of the 21 rangatahi selected from across the motu to attend the national semifinals and national race uity hui in Auckland in early May.

The Race Unity Speech Awards were established by the New Zealand Bahá'í community in 2001, after the 1998 death of race relations advocate and member of the Auckland Bahá'í community, Hediayatulah Moani,

Moani, who was born in Iran and had lived in the US, Australia and the Pacific before moving to New Zealand, was passionate about learning about the indigenous peoples of each place. After a series of racially motivated incidents towards non-Europeans in New Zealand in 1997, Moani organised a Unity In Diversity Rally in Auckland’s Aotea Square. The rally took place on Human Rights Day, December 10, 1997, and the success of the event led to discussions between Moani and the Race Relations Office regarding the potential establishment of a Race Unity Day in New Zealand.

That idea became a reality in 1999, and set for March 21, as a day already set by the United Nations as being the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. In 2002, Race Unity Day was renamed Race Relations Day and remains an annual event in Aotearoa New Zealand.

The Taranaki heats of the Race Unity Speech Awards were organised by regional co-ordinators Ainslie Duncan and Mervyn Chivers, and Duncan said while only two students would be going on to Auckland to the national hui, all students, their whānau and their friends are able to share their ideas about race unity at an upcoming regional hui in Taranaki.

Duncan said she hoped all the Taranaki speech entrants would attend the hui, and bring their friends and peers with them.

“The more people who come and share their ideas the better. Parents, caregivers, teachers and students are all welcome.”

Duncan said the purpose of the hui is to promote the idea of individual responsibility for action and “strengthening participants understanding of the oneness of humanity, as well as creating plans of action that can be implemented immediately”.

Biden to Call for Tripling Tariffs on Chinese Steel Products

In a speech to union steelworkers in Pittsburgh, the president will announce several new measures meant to raise new barriers against floods of Chinese imports.

President Biden, wearing a blue suit and no tie, descending the stairs from an airplane.

By Jim Tankersley and Nicholas Nehamas

Reporting from Washington and Scranton, Pa.

President Biden on Wednesday will call on his trade representative to more than triple some tariffs on steel and aluminum products from China, as part of a series of moves meant to help cushion American manufacturers from a surge of low-cost imports.

Speaking to the United Steelworkers Union in Pittsburgh, Mr. Biden will ask the U.S. trade representative, Katherine Tai, to increase tariffs to 25 percent on certain Chinese products that currently face tariffs of 7.5 percent — or no tariffs at all — U.S. officials said.

Mr. Biden will also announce a new trade representative investigation into China’s aggressive support for shipbuilders and other related industries, in response to a union complaint. And he will announce new initiatives to work with Mexican officials to block China from evading American steel tariffs by routing its exports through Mexico.

The moves represent an escalating effort by Mr. Biden and his aides to stop a flood of low-cost Chinese exports from undermining made-in-America products — and jeopardizing a central focus of Mr. Biden’s economic agenda.

Those exports, which often enjoy heavy subsidies from Beijing and low-cost labor, propelled the Chinese economy to higher-than-expected growth in the opening months of the year. But they have raised alarms in the United States and other nations that trade heavily with China, with leaders of those countries accusing Chinese officials of flouting international trade law and disrupting their own domestic manufacturing.

“China is simply too big to play by its own rules,” Lael Brainard, who heads Mr. Biden’s National Economic Council, told reporters.

U.S. officials have increasingly complained about China’s manufacturing overcapacity, contending that its subsidies of clean energy products and other factory goods are giving Chinese factories an unfair advantage and distorting global markets.

“With these subsidies, the amount of capacity exceeds global demand and what it’s likely to be even over the next decade,” Treasury Secretary Janet L. Yellen said on Tuesday, in remarks accusing the International Monetary Fund of insufficient focus on the issue.

“When the markets weaken, prices fall and it’s our firms who go out of business, and those that are our allied countries,” she said. “Chinese firms continue to receive support so that they remain.”

The Biden administration has balanced those critiques with diplomatic outreach — and pressure. Ms. Yellen traveled to China last week for several days of meetings with leaders there. On Tuesday, according to news reports, Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III talked with his Chinese counterpart for the first time in more than a year.

Late last week, Mr. Biden convened a White House security summit with the leaders of Japan and the Philippines, which was intended as a show of unity against China’s military actions in the South China Sea.

Countering China has also become a central issue in Mr. Biden’s presidential rematch with former President Donald J. Trump. Both men are pitching tariffs and other trade restrictions to factory workers, labor groups and other key voting blocs in the industrial Midwest.

“When a country just rips us off like China, then what I did is that the tariffs, and the tariffs were forcing companies back to the United States,” Mr. Trump told CNBC in March.

The tariffs Mr. Biden will propose raising on Wednesday were initially imposed by Mr. Trump when he was president. Mr. Biden’s trade representative is conducting a four-year review of those tariffs. U.S. officials have said for months that the review is nearing completion, a position they reaffirmed in a call with reporters on Tuesday.

Mr. Biden’s stop in Pittsburgh is part of a three-day swing through Pennsylvania, a crucial battleground state that he narrowly won in 2020 and has visited more than any other. The president’s campaign is hoping to mobilize support from organized labor, a traditionally Democratic constituency from which Mr. Trump has pulled some support.

On Tuesday, Mr. Biden spoke at the local union of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners in Scranton, Pa., his hometown.

He also delivered a flurry of attacks against Mr. Trump during a campaign address on taxes earlier in the day, asserting that the former president was a pawn of billionaires, not a friend of the working class, and citing his roots in Scranton.

“Donald Trump looks at the world differently than you and me,” Mr. Biden said in a speech that signaled his campaign’s intention to make the 2024 election a referendum on Mr. Trump. “He wakes up in the morning at Mar-a-Lago thinking about himself — how he can help his billionaire friends gain power and control, and force their extreme agenda on the rest of us.”

Thought For The Day For School Assembly

“Remember that the greatest crime is to compromise with injustice and wrong.”  – Netaji Subash Chandra Bose

School Assembly topics and themes: Unique ideas for teachers and students

Speech For School Assembly

Speech 1: importance of community and collaboration.

Good morning everyone,

Today, I want to talk about something close to our hearts: community and collaboration. As we gather here in this assembly, we are reminded of the strength and unity that comes from working together.

In our school, we are not just a group of students and teachers; we are a community. We share common goals, support one another, and celebrate each other’s successes. It is this sense of belonging and togetherness that makes our school a special place.

But why is community so important? Well, when we collaborate and work together, we can achieve so much more. We can solve problems, innovate, and create positive change in our school and beyond.

So, let’s embrace the spirit of community and collaboration. Let’s reach out to one another, lend a helping hand, and work together to make our school the best it can be.

Speech 2: Power of positivity and resilience

Today, I want to talk to you about something that can make a huge difference in our lives; the power of positivity and resilience.

Life is full of ups and downs, challenges and setbacks. But it’s how we respond to these situations that define us. By maintaining a positive outlook and being resilient, we can overcome obstacles, learn from our experiences, and grow stronger as individuals.

Positivity is not just about seeing the glass as half full; it’s about finding the silver lining in every situation, no matter how difficult it may be. And resilience is about bouncing back from setbacks, learning from our mistakes, and never giving up, even when things get tough.

So, let’s embrace positivity and resilience in our daily lives. Let’s support one another, lift each other, and encourage one another to stay positive and keep pushing forward, no matter what challenges we may face.

Speech 3: Importance of education and lifelong learning

Today, I want to talk to you about the foundation of our future; education and lifelong learning.

Education is not just about memorising facts and passing exams; it’s about acquiring knowledge, developing critical thinking skills, and preparing ourselves for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

In today’s rapidly changing world, lifelong learning has never been more important. We need to be adaptable, curious, and open to new ideas and experiences. By continuing to learn and grow throughout our lives, we can stay ahead of the curve, seize new opportunities, and make a positive impact in our communities and the world.

So, let’s make the most of our time here at school. Let’s be curious, ask questions, and embrace new learning opportunities. And remember that education is a lifelong journey, not a destination.
