How to Create a Multi-Page PDF in Photoshop
A huge time saver when creating brochures and other docs
Whether you’re creating an infographic, an informative online help file, or any other type of PDF document, it’s useful to know how to create a multi-page PDF if you’re using Photoshop.
Thankfully, the process is very straightforward. There are some requirements that must be met to ensure the presentation appears clearly, but we’ll go over these and the steps necessary to make a proper PDF in Photoshop below.
Creating a Multi-Page PDF in Photoshop
To begin with, you’ll need to create each page of your PDF file individually. Every page should be a separate Photoshop .PSD file.
You can save each file as a .PSD so that you can edit each page separately in the future if needed.
The resolution you choose is very important. The typical A4 print size is a good dimension to use for PDF, so we’ll opt for that in this guide.
If you want to print the PDF , you can use 300 DPI (dots/pixels per inch). The resolution for this would be 2480 pixels x 3508 pixels.
If you want to upload the PDF online , it is advised that you choose a lower resolution to keep the overall file size of the PDF more manageable.
72 DPI is a common choice. For this, the resolution would need to be 595 pixels x 842 pixels.
If you want to add more content to a page, you can increase the pixel height. (Use Alt+Ctrl+C.)
Just make sure you do not increase the width. It’s important the width stays the same on every page, otherwise the layout of your PDF will be impacted.
Once you have created each page at the right resolution, you can follow the steps below to create a multi-page PDF.
- Step 1: Save each .PSD file in the same folder.
- Step 2: For easy management, save each page as Page_1, Page_2, etc
- Step 3: Next, go to File , then Automate , then PDF Presentation
- Step 4: Click Browse on the new pop-up
- Step 5: Hold Ctrl and click on each .PSD file you’d like to add
- Step 6: Click Open
When you are ready, click Save to create the PDF file. You can drag each file up and down in the list to change their position if needed.
Make sure to choose Multi-Page Document under the output options section before clicking save.
You can now choose where to save your PDF file. Finally, you’ll have a number of options for customizing the output of the PDF file. For example, you can use the compression tab to minimize the PDF file size by sacrificing image quality. For now, you can click Save PDF .
Your PDF file will now be created! You can double click the file to open it in your web browser or PDF reader application.
Here is a look at our test file:
Notice how all pages are displayed with the same zoom and layout, despite one page being taller. If you have an issue with some pages not displaying correctly, you must ensure the pixel width of each PSD page file is exactly the same.
If you ever need to edit your PDF, you must edit the PSD for the page you’d like to make changes to. After that, you’ll need to follow the steps listed above once more to re-create the PDF presentation with the newly edited page.
You should now know how to create a multi-page PDF in Photoshop. We hope that this guide has proven to be useful. Have any questions about the process? Lets us know and we’ll be happy to help. Enjoy!

Contact Sheet II and PDF Presentation plug-ins in Photoshop CS6 and Photoshop are 64-bit compatible for optimal performance on modern systems.
Some procedures in this article are applicable to Adobe Bridge. Adobe Bridge is not installed by default with Photoshop. To download Bridge, sign in to Creative Cloud with your Adobe ID , then navigate to Apps.
Creating a contact sheet
Do either of the following:
- (Photoshop) Choose File > Automate > Contact Sheet II.
- (Bridge) Select a folder of images or specific image files. From the Bridge menu, choose Tools > Photoshop > Contact Sheet II. Unless you select specific images, the contact sheet will include all the images currently displayed in Adobe Bridge. You can select a different images after the Contact Sheet II dialog box opens.
In the Contact Sheet II dialog box, specify the images to include by choosing an option from the Use menu.
Note: If you select Bridge, all images currently in Bridge are used unless you selected images before choosing the Contact Sheet II command. Images in subfolders are not included.
In the Document area, specify the dimensions and color data for the contact sheet. Select Flatten All Layers to create a contact sheet with all images and text on a single layer. Deselect Flatten All Layers to create a contact sheet in which each image is on a separate layer and each caption is on a separate text layer.
In the Thumbnails area, specify layout options for the thumbnail previews.
- For Place, choose whether to arrange thumbnails across first (from left to right, then top to bottom) or down first (from top to bottom, then left to right).
- Enter the number of columns and rows that you want per contact sheet.
- Select Use Auto-Spacing to let Photoshop automatically space the thumbnails in the contact sheet. If you deselect Use Auto-Spacing, you can specify the vertical and horizontal space around the thumbnails.
- Select Rotate For Best Fit to rotate the images, regardless of their orientation, so they fit efficiently on a contact sheet.
Select Use Filename As Caption to label the thumbnails using their source image filenames. Use the menu to specify a caption font and font size.
Creating a PDF presentation
The PDF Presentation command lets you use a variety of images to create a multipage document or slideshow presentation.
Choose File > Automate > PDF Presentation.
In the PDF Presentation dialog box, click Browse and navigate to add files to the PDF presentation. Select Add Open Files to add files already open in Photoshop.
Drag files up or down to reorder them in the presentation. If you want a file to appear more than once, select the file and click Duplicate.
Set Output and Presentation options. Then click Save.
PDF presentations are saved as generic PDF files, not Photoshop PDF files, and are rasterized when you reopen them in Photoshop.

Create a PDF presentation from Photoshop
PDF presentations are becoming more and more popular. I guess it’s nicer to send one complete PDF file to client that is put in order rather than sending a bunch of individual jpegs.
If you have your jpegs ready there is a very quick and easy way to put them into a PDF file using Photoshop . Open all the files. Select File/ Automate/ PDF Presentation. You will have an option to include all open files on the very top of the window, switch it on.
Now, drag around the files names in the window to put the images in order.
You can select from the options to have a simple multi page document or a slideshow with transition and timing. The latter is great for porfolios, but will only display properly if your client is using Acrobat Reader. Otherwise it will be a simple multi-page document.
In the next dialog window you will have many options. One useful feature is to give a password to protect the document. Unfortunately this feature makes the document lose its thumbs in Preview.
