16 Short Speeches About Life

At first, I set out to craft a speech about life . But as I delved deeper into the topic, I realized that summing up the vast tapestry of life in a single speech is a tall order. Life is not just one color or a single note; it’s a vibrant spectrum, a rainbow of experiences, moments, highs, lows, lessons, and memories. Each hue represents a different chapter, emotion, or milestone that contributes to our unique stories.

I also recognize that high school students might come across these words. I fondly recall my own school days when teachers would challenge us to pen down our thoughts on life. Such assignments, seemingly simple on the surface, often pushed us to self-reflection and growth.

With these memories and audiences in mind, I present to you not just one, but multiple speeches on life. Through these, I aim to touch upon the myriad facets of our existence, hoping that each reader, regardless of their age or journey, finds a sliver of resonance, a hint of inspiration, or a moment of reflection.

Speeches About Life

Speeches about life resonate with all of us because life, in its vastness and complexity, is the shared journey we all navigate. It’s filled with rainbows of experiences, highs and lows, and tales of courage, fear, triumphs, and setbacks.

Through these speeches, we get a window into the varied perspectives, learnings, and stories of others. They offer a mirror to our own experiences, sometimes teaching us, sometimes validating our feelings, and often inspiring us to see our path in a new light.

Moreover, life speeches bridge the gap between generations.

From a teenager in high school to a professional in their prime, everyone can find a piece of wisdom or an echo of their own story in these words.

By discussing life, we unite in our shared human experience, finding solace in the thought that we’re not alone in our struggles or joys. This universality, this binding thread, is what makes speeches about life timeless and impactful.

I have delivered these speeches in Toastmasters . I share these speeches when I teach about life and leadership. I have written them in the hope that you too will be inspired to write your speech about life and be an inspiration to others.

A speech about life aims to provide insights, share personal experiences, motivate the audience, or encourage introspection about the various aspects of human existence.

They can be both. Some speakers draw from their personal journeys and lessons learned, while others tap into universal truths and shared human experiences.

No, everyday experiences can provide profound insights. It’s about the message and the perspective, not necessarily the drama of the events.

Using storytelling, anecdotes, humor, and asking thought-provoking questions can make your speech more engaging. Ensure that the content resonates with the audience’s experiences and emotions.

Focus on authenticity, clarity of message, and audience engagement. Also, incorporating relatable stories or analogies can make the content memorable.

16 Most Life-Changing Motivational Speeches & What You’ll Gain from Them

It’s all very well reading about ways to get ahead in life, but no account will ever reach you in quite the same way as hearing someone speak about their own experiences. While these people may be household names now, it wasn’t always that way, and this collection of some of the best motivational speeches will move you and inspire you to make your own dreams come true.

16 Most Life-Changing Motivational Speeches and What You’ll Gain From Them

From Arnold Schwarzenneger talking about how he filled every moment of every day with steps to fulfil his ambition of becoming Mr. Universe, to J.K. Rowling’s life as an impoverished single mother, these speeches will fill you with the drive and determination to reach your full potential, and not let anything stand in your way.

Some are long, and some last just a few minutes, but each one will make you want to grab life with both hands and go for what you want, whatever it is.

“Most people have done all that they’re ever going to do – they raise a family, they earn a living, and then they die.”

That’s what we’re supposed to do, right? Wrong! Life is made for greater things, and you are meant for greater things.

When Les Brown was a child, he was labeled ‘educable mentally retarded’, and until a chance encounter with another teacher, he believed that he would amount to nothing. But this one teacher planted the seeds in Les’ head which would blossom and grow, and eventually make him one of the best motivational speakers of all time.

This speech will give you permission to rise above other people’s opinions, to break free of their prejudices, and make a success of whatever you do. Watch ‘It’s Not Over Until You Win! Your Dream is Possible’ and take those first steps towards following your passion and making your dream come true.

“Stress doesn’t come from the facts, stress comes from the meaning that we give the facts.”

Life is about choices. Every day we’re faced with hundreds of choices, and this speech by Tony Robbins will help you see that it’s the choices, not the conditions, which shape our lives.

Take a moment during this speech to pause and reflect on some choices you have made in the past, and really think about the direction your life took because of them, both good and bad. Tony Robbins explains in his inimitable way that we have the choice to focus on what we want, and that when we focus, we can achieve whatever we want.

Part of Tony’s speech explains how, when the economy is down, some people thrive and some people crash and burn, and the COVID 19 pandemic is the perfect example. Small businesses took a huge hit, and while some of them threw up their hands in despair and said ‘that’s it, it’s over for us’, others adapted, and saw it as an opportunity to expand, diversify, and turn the situation to their advantage.

And that’s the cornerstone of this video – how we react, how we adapt, and how we choose is the difference between success and failure.

“So every rep that I do gets me closer to accomplishing the goal to make this goal – this vision – into reality.”

Be inspired by Arnold Schwarzenneger as he talks about his goal of becoming Mr. Universe. Never wasting a second of his day, Arnie worked in construction, spent 5 hours in the gym, and went to acting classes, all of which took him further along his journey to making his dream come true.

We all have a propensity to waste time, but if you have a goal, if you have a passion that smolders away, take a leaf out of Arnie’s book and make sure that everything you do propels you forward.

And don’t be afraid to fail.

“Your conviction and your convenience don’t live on the same block.”

If you are a fan of The Secret, you will be familiar with Lisa Nicholls. In this video, Lisa tells Tom Bilyeu how she was willing to leave everything and everyone behind in order to grow into the version of herself that she knew she wanted.

Lisa explains how, as a young mother, she was forced to wrap her baby in a towel for two days because she had no money for diapers, and how it was at that moment that she vowed never to be that broke or that broken again.

Change, success, drive…they’re all inconvenient and disruptive, and Lisa Nicholls demonstrates that wonderfully in this emotional and highly motivating interview in which she declares “your story is not meant to be your fortress, your story is meant to be your fuel.”

Eric Thomas had a dream, a goal, and that goal was to be the best motivational speaker in the world. He didn’t achieve this by giving 70%, or 80%…he didn’t achieve it by staying in bed late in the mornings. He achieved it by giving 100% every minute of every day.

Listen to Eric’s words, hear the passion in his voice, and feel the lessons he is giving to you if you want to be the best at whatever you do.

“If we don’t take control of our environment, it takes control of us.”

This short piece by Tony Robbins has been designed to show you that you are in control of your own environment. Whether you realize it or not, what goes on around you has a massive influence on the way you feel and the way you act.

By taking leadership of your own life, you can defy outside influences and set your own tone for the day ahead, regardless of whatever or whoever is exerting pressure from the outside.

Follow Tony’s example of taking 10 minutes for yourself at the start of every day – for gratitude, prayer or wishes for family and friends, and a recap of what you want to accomplish that day, and your day will continue on that same path of thankfulness, hope, and goals.

“Your mind doesn’t know the difference between something you vividly imagined and something that’s real, literally!”

If you want to emulate the way successful people behave, take these 10 billionaires’ habits and adopt them yourself for 21 days.

Billed by Jim Kwik as being ‘like a magic pill’, these habits will rewire your brain into thinking and behaving like some of the world’s most successful people.

In this 8 minute clip, Jim shares how, for instance, your brain reacts the same way when you imagine your dog walking in as it does when your dog actually walks in, and this can apply to anything. What the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.

As much as this applies to positive things, it also can be applied to negative things, so if you imagine failure, that’s what you will get. Fill your mind with thoughts of success and that’s what will happen.

None of these habits are difficult to accomplish, but in doing so you will change your entire mindset into one of a hugely successful person, no matter what you want to achieve in life.

“Don’t leave crumbs.”

If this sounds more like a housekeeping hint and less like a motivational affirmation, you’re 50% right. Our lives do need housekeeping, and not leaving crumbs – i.e. regrets – which will come back and rob your tomorrow of joy, is one of the chores you need to do on a daily basis.

Matthew McConaughey delivers a powerful speech in a gentle way at the University of Houston Commencement Address.

Discussing the five rules he lives by, he will show you how to avoid falling into a trap of entitlement, and why ‘Unbelievable’ is the stupidest word in the dictionary.

With some invaluable life lessons contained inside a highly watchable speech, Matthew McConaughey is an unlikely but very inspiring speaker who has stayed humble despite all his successes.

“There are a lot of sharks in the world; if you hope to complete the swim, you will have to deal with them. So if you want to change the world, don’t back down from the sharks.”

Spoken with eloquence and quiet assuredness, this six-minute speech draws on US Navy Admiral William McRaven’s experience of survival in the Navy Seals.

He explains how making your bed, while seemingly insignificant and even pointless, will set a series of tasks in motion which will ensure that at best, the first job of the day is done, and at worst, you have a neat, tidy bed to fall into at the end of a trying day.

The world is full of people who want to bring you down (the sharks) but if you stand your ground, they will eventually swim away, leaving you to go on to bigger and better things.

“Sometimes life’s gonna hit you in the face with a brick…don’t lose faith.”

Steve Jobs, chairman, CEO, and co-founder of Apple Inc. was hit in the face with more than one brick during his 56 years on earth. From being given up for adoption as a baby, to being fired from the very company which he founded, he never let anything get in his way.

In this commencement speech at Stamford University in 2005, Steve explained how his love for what he did spurred him on to rebuild his life in spectacular fashion.

Life dealt a further blow when, in 2003, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

This speech focuses on three stories which, when combined, show how life offers opportunities for change and growth, no matter how dire the circumstances.

Steve Jobs never graduated college, but when he died in 2011, aged just 56, he had a net worth of US$7 billion. He achieved this by doing what he loved, and in this speech he will inspire you to do the same.

“It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously than you might as well not have lived at all. In which case, you fail by default.”

Let J. K. Rowling inspire you with this 2008 commencement speech at Harvard University. Extolling the virtues of failure and imagination, she tells the graduates how being at rock bottom set her free to pursue her dreams of being an author.

As poor as it is possible to be without being homeless, she created the world of Harry Potter and went on to amass a fortune of £795 million, but that without her failures in life, she would never have had the opportunity to do so.

Let her words become your own mantra, and view every failure in your life as a future success.

“We shine, because baby you just can’t dim the sun.”

A beautiful antidote for anyone who has ever felt or been told that they are ‘too much’, Gina Hatzis’ winning Speaker Slam speech of 2018 will give you permission to be unashamedly you.

Although written by a woman for women, this powerful and sometimes humorous speech about being your own authentic self will inspire anyone – man or woman – to shine and never dim their own light to suit other people.

“The first step you need to take is just that…step.”

If you are in need of a short, sharp burst of motivation, listen to this speech by ex Navy Seal, Jocko Willink.

Running for less than three minutes, this recording will inspire you to take a step into whatever you want to achieve. Awarded both the Silver Star and the Bronze Star for service, Jocko Willink is no stranger to taking those brave steps, having come face to face with Iraqu insurgents in Ramadi. He will spur you on to put one metaphorical foot in front of the other, and will leave you in no doubt as to what you need to do to achieve your goals.

“On the other side of your maximum fear are all of the best things in life.”

If you like your motivation with a side order of laughter, watch Will Smith as he talks about fear. Agreeing to skydive on a night out with friends, Will realizes that he actually has to go through with it.

Discussing how fear ruins things (he couldn’t sleep or eat before the jump), Will also discloses that beyond fear was the most blissful experience of his life, and how that principle can be applied to anything in life.

“Only those that can see the invisible, can do the impossible.”

Tyrese Gibson knows success, and in this speech he talks about how it can be achieved, by anyone who wants it.

Actor, singer, author, model…Tyrese seems to have the Midas touch, but he didn’t get it by luck. Follow his words as he gently but passionately guides you along the path you need to take if you have goals and dreams in life.

“I refuse to be another man who lived and died, and wasn’t significant’”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bzl3CQXMRVo

“If it is written, so shall it be.”

When Steve Harvey’s teacher crushed his dreams of being on TV, the one person who believed in him was his father. He told him to put a piece of paper with his dreams on in his drawer, and to read it every morning and every night.

His dreams came true.

It didn’t always come easy for Steve Harvey though – he spent years living in his car when he had nowhere else to go, but the one thing he never lost was his ambition and determination to see his dreams through to fruition.

A firm believer in the Law of Attraction, Steve still has vision boards and still commits his dreams to writing, and encourages you to do the same in this speech that made Obama cry.

These motivational speeches, and many more like them, show how having guts, determination, and a vision will get you anywhere you want to go, no matter your beginnings in life. These inspirational speakers have suffered loss, sickness, and unbelievable hardships, but the one thing that got them through was their desire to win and their belief that they could.

Immerse yourself in their words of wisdom, and take that next step into your best life.

30 Famous and Short Inspirational Speeches (5 minutes or less)

  • December 13, 2023

This post is all about the best short inspirational speeches.

Short Inspirational Speeches.

If you are in need of a quick boost of inspiration and motivation, you will find that in this post. I am one of those people who loves to get motivated. That sounds weird, right?

Well, a lot of people these days tend to give motivation a hard time because they don’t believe that it has lasting effects. In other words, they believe that what’s most important is your own self-discipline, because that’s what you have to rely on when motivation isn’t there.

And while I do agree with that sentiment in general, I will never pass up a great motivational podcast or YouTube video! 😀 There’s just something about them that even if they might not have lasting effects, they do truly help pump me up in the moment to get work done. And that’s usually what matters to me the most when I am looking for them in the first place.

So, here are the very best short motivational speeches so you can get that quick fix of motivation that you’re looking for, and ultimately move closer to your goals and dreams.

Short Inspirational Speeches

Believe in yourself speeches.

If you lack confidence or you are doubting yourself, these short motivational speeches will help you to believe in yourself again.

1. Rocky’s Inspirational Speech to His Son | ROCKY BALBOA

In less than 5 minutes, you’ll watch Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) explain to his son that if he wants to have the life he desires, he needs to believe in himself. He needs to stop listening to the people that tell him who he is, and instead go be his own person, and stop looking for someone to blame when things aren’t working out for him because ultimately it’s on HIM. This is one of the greatest inspirational speeches of all time.

2. Find Your Purpose | David Goggins – Motivational Speech

David Goggins is truly incredible. A former Navy SEAL, he has broken records and ran more races than you’d imagine. But the one thing that really stands out about him is his mindset.

Listen to this video if you want to be great. He tells you exactly what you need to do to get there.

Also, if you’ve never read David Goggins’ book “Can’t Hurt Me” , I highly recommend it. He talks about his rough upbringing, and how he was able to essentially become an entirely new person to become a Navy SEAL.

3. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF – Motivational Video (ft. Jaret Grossman & Eric Thomas)

This video is all about how important it is to have the proper belief system. If you truly believe that you are one of the best, you will start acting that you are one of the best, and eventually you may just be one of the best.

4. DON’T LET YOUR DREAMS DIE – Motivational Speech

This YouTube short by Mel Robbins is so good, I had to share it. A light bulb went on in my head when I first watched this. If there is something that is always on your mind, don’t let it haunt you forever because you never put yourself out there to try it. Go and DO!

Motivational Speeches About Not Giving Up

The following short motivational speeches are all about not giving up on your dreams. If you are losing hope, these short motivational speeches will inspire you to keep going.

5. Brené Brown It’s Not The Critic Who Counts

This speech will give you chills, and it is packed with great lessons about life. Brené Brown is a researcher who went viral for a Ted Talk, and here she talks about how to overcome critics and to keep believing in yourself no matter what. If you are worried about what people think of you, you NEED to watch this.

6. Amazing Motivational Speech by Denzel Washington

This is another video that gave me chills. The main theme of this famous speech is “ease is a greater threat to progress than hardship”. Stay consistent even when it’s hard. Easy task after easy task won’t get you to where you want to be.

7. Steve Harvey – Inspirational Speech | Motivational Short Video | Incredible You

This short motivational speech by Steve Harvey is short but impactful. If you are someone who stepped out of your comfort zone to pursue something really difficult, and you’re thinking about giving up, this speech may just prevent you from doing so.

8. Ed Mylett on The Power of One More

Ed Mylett shares the story of how his father stayed sober until his dying day, and how Ed himself uses that same philosophy to never give up. Personal stories like these are always the most inspiring.

By the way, if you REALLY want to push yourself and become the best, read Ed Mylett’s most recent book on this same topic, “The Power Of One More” .

Motivational Speeches If You’re Feeling Behind

Are you feeling behind in life? If so, let’s change that. Watch these videos to be reminded that you are on your own unique path. You have no competition other than your past self. These short motivational videos will help you believe that.

9. Before You Feel Pressure – WATCH THIS | by Jay Shetty

Jay Shetty talks to a school class about how there’s no one “perfect” life timeline to follow, and that we are all on our own clock.

10. Kevin Hart Motivational Speech

If you’ve made mistakes in your life (haven’t we all) this is a great story from Kevin Hart (famous comedian and actor) that will remind you of the power of making mistakes and pushing through hard times.

11. Oprah Winfrey | 5 Minutes For The NEXT 50 Years of Your LIFE

In this video, Oprah talks about the importance of really knowing who you are and what you want in your life. She talks about surrounding yourself with great people, and how to have enormous success. “Let excellence be your brand.”

Listen To These If You Need Perspective

Sometimes in life, we get so caught up in the day to day that we forget what truly matters – the people we love. If you are having trouble with something in life, give these videos a listen, because they just might help you realize what is really important.

12. Arnold Schwarzenegger – Organize Your Day | 1 MINUTE MOTIVATIONAL VIDEO

Are you the kind of person who always complains that you don’t have enough time to do something? If so, you’re not alone. We are all busy humans, running around doing a million things. But if you aren’t prioritizing what you know you should be doing, listen to this video.

13. How to Judge Your Life Using 3 Simple Questions | Brendon Burchard Speech| Goalcast

Have you ever heard of Mortality Motivation? It’s essentially what it sounds like… being motivated by the impending reality of your death. It sounds a little morbid, but it’s actually quite beautiful and it can be really beneficial if you harness it for good.

In this video by motivational speaker Brendon Burchard, he shares how a car accident when he was 19 gave him mortality motivation and changed everything for him.

14. FALL, SUFFER AND LEARN | MOTIVATIONAL SPEECH BY OPRAH WINFREY

This speech by Oprah was given to Harvard graduates, and it’s a unique speech because she talks about failing, even after the major success of her television show for over 20 years.

It’s refreshing to hear that even the most successful people fail. What really matters, though, is what you do with your failure. Do you learn from it and move on? Or do you give up?

15. YOU VS YOU – Best Motivational Video

This is a pretty intense video about competition. If your #1 competition is someone else, you need to change your perspective. Your only competition is YOU. The only thing preventing you from moving forward is you.

16. The Speech That Brought This Entire School To Tears

This is a speech about a man who never really paid much attention to his mother, until she passed away. It’s an emotional reminder to cherish the time you have with your loved ones, because you never know if the next time you see them will be the last time.

In my opinion, this speaker embodies many qualities of the best motivational speakers because he really knows how to capture the audience’s attention and pull on their heart strings.

17. 5 Minutes to Start Your Day Right! – MORNING MOTIVATION

This motivational speech is by a Navy SEAL who will remind you to start each day with a task completed, respect everyone, take risks, step up during tough times, and never give up. If you do these things, the next generation, and the generations that follow, will live better lives than we live today.

18. The Real You – Jim Carrey

This video is one of the best motivational speech examples because it reminds you of something so important: sometimes we can be so focused on earning more money, gaining fame, and becoming admired that we lose ourselves or we lose sight of what’s really important to us in the process.

Jim Carrey talks about how he is a great example of that. He got all of the money, fame, and admiration, and admits that that wasn’t really who he was. Sometimes it’s nice to be reminded that money and fame, or even getting to the top of the corporate ladder, while nice, aren’t going to be the thing that brings you fulfillment when it’s all said and done.

19. Ed Mylett Motivational Speech

I posted another motivational video by Ed Mylett above, but if you don’t know much about him, prepare to have your world rocked. He’s probably my absolute favorite motivational speaker because he is successful and he works hard, but he’s also (seemingly) a kind, family guy who’s been through a few things.

In this video, he talks about being “the one” that changed his family tree. Take a listen because I’m sure it’ll get you thinking on whether or not you can be “the one” in YOUR family.

P.S. If you love personal growth content, you should check out Ed Mylett’s podcast . I listen to it every week and it is one of my favorites.

20. If You Feel LOST, LAZY & UNMOTIVATED In Life, WATCH THIS! | Tony Robbins Motivation

If you are someone who is constantly blaming others or your circumstances for your unhappiness, you need to listen to this video by Tony Robbins . Bad things happen to us all, it’s up to you to focus on what you can control.

Great Inspirational Speeches About Hard Work

How hard do you think you work? Could you be doing more? If there’s a little voice inside of your heart that knows you could be doing more and better, these motivational videos about the value of hard work will help you push yourself.

And a side note: your chances of having good luck increase the harder and longer you work.

21. You’re Not Tired, You’re Just Weak – David Goggins Motivation

If you’re feeling lazy or like you don’t want to do something, watch this video til 2:25 . It will give you the push you need to put your head down and do the work. It’ll remind you to keep pursuing your goals and to keep challenging yourself. Key takeaway: push yourself beyond your perceived limits.

22. Hard Work & Patience – A Gary Vaynerchuk Original Film

If you want to be motivated to work hard, listen to Gary Vaynerchuk. Gary Vaynerchuk is a creative genius known for his marketing tactics. This famous motivational speech is all about playing “the long game”, as in, working for a long time and having patience instead of working hard for a short period of time and expecting to win quickly.

23. OBSESSION – Best Motivational Speech

This is one of my favorite short motivational speeches because it makes me feel a little more normal for being “weird”. I’m the kind of person who chooses to work on the weekends instead of hanging out with people. Crazy, right? But it’s because I’m working toward a dream of mine and it’s something that’s really important to me. The most important thing to remember: it’s okay to devote yourself to something. It’s the only way to get what you want in life.

24. WORK LIKE HELL – Best Motivational Video

This is a series of motivational speeches about doing a little bit more and outworking your competition. I’m not going to lie – I’m up late writing this post and listening to this very video is what’s motivating me to keep going.

25. The video EVERY woman should watch!

Whether or not you’re a Rachel Hollis fan may be up for debate (and that’s okay!) but I happen to think she’s a great motivational speaker. This entire speech will inspire you to work hard and take massive action – today.

26. NEVER SURRENDER – Powerful Motivational Speech (by Kobe Bryant)

This one minute video by the late Kobe Bryant is one of the most famous short speeches. I read a book recently by his former personal trainer and I learned that Kobe really outworked everyone. He talks about a quote in this video that really stuck with him, and I think it’s great advice if you’re the kind of person who needs motivation to keep working hard.

Motivational Speeches About Working Smart

Have you ever heard the saying “work smarter, not harder”? That saying is all about ensuring that the work you are doing is actually efficient. Are you getting to where you want to go with all of the work that you are putting in? Are you getting closer to your goals and your dreams? Or are you sprinting like a hamster on a wheel and just running in circles?

Here are great videos on the importance of working hard but also working intentionally.

27. SET SYSTEMS RATHER THAN GOALS – Motivational Speech – James Clear

A goal gives you a sense of direction, but if you don’t spell out precisely how you are going to get to a goal, it is useless. You must develop systems. Listen to this James Clear video to gain valuable life lessons.

By the way, James Clear is an author who wrote perhaps my favorite book of all time: “Atomic Habits” . It’s life-changing if you haven’t read it yet.

28. Matthew McConaughey | 5 Minutes for the NEXT 50 Years of Your LIFE

This is one of the best motivational speeches of all time about how to live a great life for YOU. It’s filled with little pieces of wisdom that’ll really get you thinking about how you live your life and in what direction you want to go.

29. Visualization is the key – Bob Proctor

Do you believe in the Law of Attraction? If not, I have to say I’m surprised! I’ve experienced it in my own life more than once, and it is incredibly powerful. Here’s a great video that sums up the power of visualization, and if you want to learn more about the Law of Attraction or manifestation in general, read this post .

This video shows the true power of words, thoughts, and feelings that you have.

30. How to Stay Motivated – Carla Harris

Here is a YouTube short with very practical advice from Carla Harris on HOW to stay motivated. It’s all about having a vision!

This post was all about short inspirational speeches. Which one was your favorite?

Speech about Life

Good morning one and all present here. I am standing before you all to share my thoughts through my speech about life. Life is a continuous ongoing process that has to end someday. Life is all about adoring yourself, creating yourself. A quote for you that life can be only understood backward but it must be lived forwards. Life itself is a golden opportunity to live a meaningful life and support others to do so. It doesn’t matter how many years you live. But it matters how well you live a quality life.

The fear of death always threatens our lives. Every person has to face death sooner or later, but that doesn’t mean that it should discourage us from living life to the fullest or achieving our goals. A person is wise only when he/she is ready to meet destiny when it comes, but until that time enjoys every bit of it. It is a sense of readiness. It is a journey in everyone’s life wherein we have to cross the bridge of death to be able to wake up to a life eternal.

Human life – A very Precious Gift

Human life is truly a very precious gift. Each moment of human life carries us an opportunity, to act to develop and express our virtues. Every moment unlocks the path to us to receive blessings. This is the truth that life gives us both positive and negative situations. What is really important is how we react.

Life is the gift of God in the form of trust that we will make it meaningful in whatever we can. We are all unique individuals. No one is born like you and no one will ever be, so cherish your individuality. Many times, I come across people accusing God of things that they don’t have. They always cursing their lives. But, do they realize that this life itself is precious? If we make it worth living and work hard towards positivity.

Life is a Journey, not a Destination

Life is nothing but a journey with lessons, hardships, heartache and special moments. It will ultimately lead us to our destination, our purpose in life. The road will not always be a plane; in fact, throughout our travels, we will face many challenges.

These challenges will always test our courage, strengths, weaknesses, and faith. Along our way, we may encounter obstacles that will come between the paths and we are destined to take.

In order to be on the right path, we must overcome these obstacles. Sometimes these obstacles are really blessings in disguise, only we don’t understand that at the time. The secret of life is best known to those who are not attached to anything deeply so much.

Therefore, they remain out of touch with worries and shifting fortunes of their lives. They are the people who do not measure their lives in terms of materialistic possessions, but by measuring their lives in terms of people they cannot live without.

Lastly, I will conclude that we should make life worthwhile. It should be with the love of our family and friends that life can be made beautiful. Life can be more beautiful and purposeful by discharging our duties in our family, at work, society and the world at large.

10 of the Most Famous and Inspirational Speeches from History

By Dr Oliver Tearle (Loughborough University)

What makes a great and iconic speech? There are numerous examples of brilliant orators and speechmakers throughout history, from classical times to the present day. What the best speeches tend to have in common are more than just a solid intellectual argument: they have emotive power, or, for want of a more scholarly word, ‘heart’. Great speeches rouse us to action, or move us to tears – or both.

But of course, historic speeches are often also associated with landmark, or watershed, moments in a nation’s history: when Churchill delivered his series of wartime speeches to Britain in 1940, it was against the backdrop of a war which was still in its early, uncertain stages. And when Martin Luther King stood in front of the Lincoln Memorial in 1963, he was addressing a crowd who, like him, were marching for justice, freedom, and civil rights for African Americans.

Let’s take a closer look at ten of the best and most famous speeches from great moments in history.

Abraham Lincoln, ‘ Gettysburg Address ’ (1863).

The Gettysburg Address is one of the most famous speeches in American history, yet it was extremely short – just 268 words, or less than a page of text – and Abraham Lincoln, who gave the address, wasn’t even the top billing .

The US President Abraham Lincoln gave this short address at the dedication of the Soldiers’ National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on 19 November 1863. At the time, the American Civil War was still raging, and the Battle of Gettysburg had been the bloodiest battle in the war, with an estimated 23,000 casualties.

Lincoln’s speech has been remembered while Edward Everett’s – the main speech delivered on that day – has long been forgotten because Lincoln eschewed the high-flown allusions and wordy style of most political orators of the nineteenth century. Instead, he addresses his audience in plain, homespun English that is immediately relatable and accessible.

Sojourner Truth, ‘ Ain’t I a Woman? ’ (1851).

Sometimes known as ‘Ar’n’t I a Woman?’, this is a speech which Sojourner Truth, a freed African slave living in the United States, delivered in 1851 at the Women’s Convention in Akron, Ohio. The women in attendance were being challenged to call for the right to vote.

In her speech, Sojourner Truth attempts to persuade the audience to give women the vote . As both an ex-slave and a woman, Sojourner Truth knew about the plight of both groups of people in the United States. Her speech shows her audience the times: change is coming, and it is time to give women the rights that should be theirs.

John Ball, ‘ Cast off the Yoke of Bondage ’ (1381).

The summer of 1381 was a time of unrest in England. The so-called ‘Peasants’ Revolt’, led by Wat Tyler (in actual fact, many of the leaders of the revolt were more well-to-do than your average peasant), gathered force until the rebels stormed London, executing a number of high-ranking officials, including the Archbishop of Canterbury and Lord Chancellor, Simon Sudbury.

Alongside Tyler, the priest John Ball was an important leading figure of the rebellion. His famous couplet, ‘When Adam delved and Eve span, / Who was then the gentleman?’ sums up the ethos of the Peasants’ Revolt: social inequality was unheard of until men created it.

Winston Churchill, ‘ We Shall Fight on the Beaches ’ (1940).

Winston Churchill had only recently assumed the role of UK Prime Minister when he gave the trio of wartime speeches which have gone down in history for their rhetorical skill and emotive power. This, for our money, is the best of the three.

Churchill gave this speech in the House of Commons on 4 June 1940. Having brought his listeners up to speed with what has happened, Churchill comes to the peroration of his speech : by far the most famous part. He reassures them that if nothing is neglected and all arrangements are made, he sees no reason why Britain cannot once more defend itself against invasion: something which, as an island nation, it has always been susceptible to by sea, and now by air.

Even if it takes years, and even if Britain must defend itself alone without any help from its allies, this is what must happen. Capitulation to the Nazis is not an option. The line ‘if necessary for years; if necessary, alone’ is sure to send a shiver down the spine, as is the way Churchill barks ‘we shall never surrender!’ in the post-war recording of the speech he made several years later.

William Faulkner, ‘ The Agony and the Sweat ’ (1950).

This is the title sometimes given to one of the most memorable Nobel Prize acceptance speeches: the American novelist William Faulkner’s acceptance of the Nobel Prize for Literature at Stockholm in 1950.

In his speech, Faulkner makes his famous statement about the ‘duty’ of writers: that they should write about ‘the human heart in conflict with itself’, as well as emotions and themes such as compassion, sacrifice, courage, and hope. He also emphasises that being a writer is hard work, and involves understanding human nature in all its complexity. But good writing should also remind readers what humankind is capable of.

Emmeline Pankhurst, ‘ The Plight of Women ’ (1908).

Pankhurst (1858-1928) was the leader of the British suffragettes, campaigning – and protesting – for votes for women. After she realised that Asquith’s Liberal government were unlikely to grand women the vote, the Women’s Social and Political Union, founded by Pankhurst with her daughter Christabel, turned to more militant tactics to shift public and parliamentary opinion.

Her emphasis in this speech is on the unhappy lot most women could face, in marriage and in motherhood. She also shows how ‘man-made’ the laws of England are, when they are biased in favour of men to the detriment of women’s rights.

This speech was given at the Portman Rooms in London in 1908; ten years later, towards the end of the First World War, women over 30 were finally given the vote. But it would be another ten years, in 1928 – the year of Pankhurst’s death – before the voting age for women was equal to that for men (21 years).

Franklin Roosevelt, ‘ The Only Thing We Have to Fear Is Fear Itself ’ (1933).

This is the title by which Roosevelt’s speech at his inauguration in 1933 has commonly become known, and it has attained the status of a proverb. Roosevelt was elected only a few years after the Wall Street Crash of 1929 which ushered in the Great Depression.

Roosevelt’s famous line in the speech, which offered hope to millions of Americans dealing with unemployment and poverty, was probably inspired by a line from Henry David Thoreau, a copy of whose writings FDR had been gifted shortly before his inauguration. The line about having nothing to fear except fear itself was, in fact, only added into the speech the day before the inauguration took place, but it ensured that the speech went down in history.

Marcus Tullius Cicero, ‘ Among Us You Can Dwell No Longer ’ (63 BC).

Of all of the great classical orators, perhaps the greatest of all was the Roman statesman, philosopher, and speechmaker, Cicero (whose name literally means ‘chickpea’).

This is probably his best-known speech. At the Temple of Jupiter in Rome, Cicero addressed the crowd, but specifically directed his comments towards Lucius Catiline, who was accused of plotting a conspiracy to set fire to the capital and stage and insurrection. The speech was considered such a fine example of Roman rhetoric that it was a favourite in classrooms for centuries after, as Brian MacArthur notes in The Penguin Book of Historic Speeches .

Queen Elizabeth I, ‘ The Heart and Stomach of a King ’ (1588).

Queen Elizabeth I’s speech to the troops at Tilbury is among the most famous and iconic speeches in English history. On 9 August 1588, Elizabeth addressed the land forces which had been mobilised at the port of Tilbury in Essex, in preparation for the expected invasion of England by the Spanish Armada.

When she gave this speech, Elizabeth was in her mid-fifties and her youthful beauty had faded. But she had learned rhetoric as a young princess, and this training served her well when she wrote and delivered this speech (she was also a fairly accomplished poet ).

She famously tells her troops: ‘I know I have the body but of a weak and feeble woman; but I have the heart and stomach of a king, and of a king of England too’. She acknowledged the fact that her body was naturally less masculine and strong than the average man’s, but it is not mere physical strength that will win the day. It is courage that matters.

Martin Luther King, ‘ I Have a Dream ’ (1963).

Let’s conclude this selection of the best inspirational speeches with the best-known of all of Martin Luther King’s speeches. The occasion for this piece of oratorical grandeur was the march on Washington , which saw some 210,000 men, women, and children gather at the Washington Monument in August 1963, before marching to the Lincoln Memorial. King reportedly stayed up until 4am the night before he was due to give the speech, writing it out.

King’s speech imagines a collective vision of a better and more equal America which is not only shared by many Black Americans, but by anyone who identifies with their fight against racial injustice, segregation, and discrimination.

7 Motivational Speech That Would Change Your Life

give a speech on life

Everyone's life more than once, throws a curveball which stumps even the strongest humans. At such times, everyone feels demotivated without any motivation or inspiration to goon. There could be numerous reasons behind feeling gloomy and sad. This feeling of not being good enough can arise in students, managers, women, men, etc. Just about anyone, at any age, can feel they are below others, whether in their studies, work, personal relationship, or in personality. At such times, when inner motivation is not working, a person looks for inspiration outside. Some stories, thoughts, or speeches give them hope of rising above their present circumstances and mentality to be the person they are capable of.  Such motivational thoughts can come from teachers, people in business, people who have overcome critical illness, sportspeople, celebrities, writers, or just the ordinary people around. It would be best to look for someone to inspire you to get up again and try again to succeed. Usually, such motivational thoughts on success can be found on the internet in blogs, videos, articles, etc. There are many biographies too, in which you can read the life journey of people who, despite all adversaries, raised above their circumstances to achieve success. You can also attend seminars or workshops, where motivational speakers come and share their stories of rising above all odds to achieve success. You get inspired by their attitude, fighting spirit, and confidence, and you realize that following your passion is the key to success , and you are ready to restart with renewed vigor and energy. Some of the popular motivational thoughts given by famous people to inspire you are:

Motivational Speech on Life

Motivational speech on life is required by everyone. Everyone gets lost at some point in their life, where they are not able to see positively in their lives. Everything looks gloomy and uncontrollable. At such moments, an external motivation propels you forward and helps you find joy in your present circumstances.  A few of such motivational speeches on life are:

  • Steve Jobs- Stanford, Commencement Speech, 2005

The most iconic motivational speech for students never fails to inspire and motivate anyone feeling sad in life. This commencement speech from Stanford, 2005, given by Steve Jobs, tells his life story and the hardship he faced in getting where he is. The CEO of Apple, in his speech, tells three stories from his life and how failure in all of them eventually brought him success. In the first story, he drops out of Reed College and how that was the best decision for later success in life, as he created his company. He then tells about how he got fired from his own company, which he had built. That dismissal leads him to Apple. In the third, he speaks about his pancreatic cancer and how he has learned to value life due to it. These challenges motivated him to become more resilient and taught him how to be cheerful in an imperfect world . "Of course it was impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in college. But it was very, very clear looking backwards ten years later. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something: your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life."- Steve Jobs.

  • David Foster Wallace- Kenyon College, Commencement Speech, 2005

The writer of Infinite Jest, David Foster Wallace, was always plain-spoken and smart. In his Commencement Speech at Kenyon College in 2005, he says that even most educated people can be closed-minded and narrow thinkers. Such narrow mindedness puts people out of real perspective and makes them falsely think they are the center of the universe. They lose sight of interconnectedness. When people think they are together in this world, they are only motivated to do good in the world. "If you're automatically sure that you know what reality is and who and what is important, if you want to operate on your default setting, then you, like me, probably won't consider possibilities that aren't annoying and miserable. But if you've really learned how to think, how to pay attention, then you'll know you have other options. It will actually be within your power to experience a crowded, hot, slow, consumer hell-type situation as not only meaningful but scared -- on fire with the same force that lit the stars: love, fellowship, the mystical oneness of all things deep down." – David Foster Wallace.

Motivational Speech on Self-confidence

Motivational speech on self confidence is required by anyone who is feeling they are not good enough. They need some external motivation to feel better about them and start appreciating themselves. A few of such motivational speeches on self-confidence are:

  • Brene Brown- The Power of Vulnerability, 2014

Brene Brown, a researcher, has shown the power of Vulnerability in an animated video. Vulnerability is not a topic that can inspire or motivate people. However, Brown says that it is the fear of failure and fear of being not good enough that makes one put walls around them.  These walls or boundaries make it difficult for people to connect with others, as they lack confidence. Connection with others is necessary to achieve greater good and see one's worth reflected in the product produced by a collaborative process. She says- empathy is a choice, and one should make it. "Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren't always comfortable, but they're never weakness."- Brene Brown.

  • Oprah Winfrey- Stanford, Commencement Address, 2008

Oprah Winfrey is a household name for motivational speakers and people who teach you how to rise above your challenges in life. In her Commencement address at Stanford in 2008, she shares some moving incidents from her life, her failures, her feelings, and the things which give her happiness. The motivational thoughts for students from her speech are-that success comes from perseverance, self-confidence, and it requires some heartaches. The road to success is rarely full of roses. "What is this here to teach me? And, as difficult as that experience has been, I got a lot of lessons. I understand now the mistakes I made, because I had been paying attention to all of the wrong things. I'd built that school from the outside in, when what really mattered was the inside out." –Oprah Winfrey.

Motivational Speech on Success

Motivational speech for success is essential for many women who get stuck between home responsibilities and their careers. They feel they have to choose between the two, and that makes them demotivated.  A few of such motivational speeches for success are:

  • Sheryl Sandberg- Harvard Business School Class Day, 2012

Sheryl Sandberg, in 2012 on Harvard Business School Class Day, launched the Lean In Movement to deconstruct the general idea of the career ladder. She said she is interested in impact creating opportunities rather than titles. The linear career path may work for some people however can leave some people on the side-lines who miss out on real things that matter to follow the generally accepted plan. Sandberg believes in emotions as emotions make one go all out and perform better. "And four, most deeply, that your generation accomplishes what mine has failed to do. Give us a world where half our homes are run by men and half our institutions are run by women. I'm pretty sure that would be a better world."- Sheryl Sandberg.

  • J.K. Rowling- Harvard, Commencement Speech, 2008

J K Rowling, the world-famous writer in her Commencement Speech at Harvard in 2008, gave one of the most Motivational speeches for women. She tells the inspiring lessons she learned late in her life. A single and poor mother, she discovered her success lesson through failures. Failure and imagination are required to succeed. Failure makes you learn what your true passion is, and vision teaches you to empathize with others. "We do not need magic to change the world, we carry all the power we need inside ourselves already: we have the power to imagine better."- J.K. Rowling.

  • Jonty Rhodes- Success Mantras

The famous cricketer Jonty Rhodes in a motivational video for success, talks about how one can succeed and what helped him in his cricket career and life. The video titled " Success Mantras with Jonty Rhodes " is worth watching to learn some tips to succeed in life and your career and how to cope with changing circumstances. "Freedom to fail is vital if you're gonna succeed."- Jonty Rhodes.

Motivation is something most people try to find inside to succeed in life, career, and studies. Though sometimes, when you are exhausted from all the hardships, inner motivation is hard to come. That time, you need some outer inspiration in the form of an inspiring life story, motivational speech, or motivational thought to rekindle your inner fire and provide you mental energy to try again. As the famous quote says, " You don't find willpower, you create it , " so if you don't find the energy in yourself, you create life by your will power and restart your journey to achieve your goals.

14 Best Written Speeches on Life [ Lessons, Challenges, Gift, Beautiful ]

The life is a precious gift of God. It has to be filled with true meaning and purpose. The life is joy, wonder, achievements, love, care and happiness. Also it can be the trail of ups and downs somewhere! Therefore, whatever the life or its circumstances are, one should really appreciate life.

List of Topics

We have written following Speeches on Life, that describe, meaning, purpose & importance of life with quotes & images. These short and long, 1,2,3,5 minutes Long Speeches are quite helpful for students.

Speech on Life | Motivational Speech about Life & its Importance

Good Morning Friends – How you all are doing? I would like to welcome you all to today’s speech ceremony. The topic has been selected by our committee, that is about Life. Probably many of us have asked ourselves this question from time to time.  This is an eternal question that we all try to answer in our baffling universe. We must ask the question ‘What does life actually mean?’ The truth is that we all deserve a fair and decent job, no matter where we come from, how much we earn, etc.

I believe that life’s true meaning can be summarized in the word Service to others.  Dalai Lama explained to his followers in the following passage the true meaning of life: “We are guests on this planet. We are here for ninety or one hundred years at the very most.

. You must do something good, something useful with your life during that period. Once you are contributing to the happiness of others, you have found the true meaning of life.”

It is inspiring to take inspiration from this philosophy because it offers immense satisfaction to the needy. True joy is found in serving God and humanity, rest is illusory. A life lived for one’s own self-interests is not a life at all. Nevertheless, I would like to say that doing your Karma and fulfilling your roles and responsibilities is important. A person must work hard and achieve goals if they have hefty packages, a great social standing and materialistic desires.

You just have to find the right balance between your own personal desires and acts of philanthropy. We do not expect you to give away all of your fortune to those in need, but we should at least develop empathy and compassion for others. Only then will the world become a safe space to dwell in if we stop continuously treating it as a battlefield and life as a battle in itself. Only then will we be able to share the message of peace and harmony throughout the world. You may not see the meaning of life until this point; you can then retreat, contemplate, and look within yourself. You will find peace and a sense of direction if you repeat this exercise.

Determine what brings you happiness in life and work on achieving it. If there is anything that makes your soul sad, you should get rid of it. With that, I would like to conclude my speech. Find your passion and pursue it; we only live once. Thank you everyone for listening to me patiently!

5 Minutes Speech on Life & its Challenges

I wish you a happy day , dear friends! I will speak today about ‘Life’. You never know what will happen next in life. Everybody wants to have a happy life and to live it to the fullest. Many people aspire to a successful career, a flourishing business, a healthy lifestyle , and so on. The best way to build a family and make friends is to choose those who can stand by you through thick and thin.

Life offers us all sorts of material possessions, but we wish that all our problems would just disappear. We all want a fulfilling life, and this could take many forms. People define their lives in different ways, for example, one person may have 3 course meals every day and another person has just a roof over their head.  It could also be having a large home or a lot of money in a bank.

In the current times, priorities are shifting, as are people’s needs. Due to high-paying jobs and increasing materialistic desires, stress levels are also increasing. People are facing serious medical conditions because of increased levels of stress, making them unable to cope with the challenges life throws their way. In turn, suicide rates and early deaths are on the rise. Therefore, stress-free living is what everyone wishes for. It is the basic human desire.

It cripples the soul when one has to put up with constant struggle and resistance. Such people become detached from life as a result. As a result, they become exhausted and feel as if they are running a marathon continuously. Afterwards, you cannot handle life anymore. Reality and our lives are also shaped by our perception. No matter how hard things may get, those with sheer will power and perseverance overcome challenges and hurdles.

There is absolutely no such thing as a cake walk in life, and it’s quite normal to become discouraged and broken. However, it is important to persevere against all odds and keep doing your best because it is clear that giving up is not an option and constant effort will certainly take you somewhere and take you closer to your goals.

In order to lead a successful life, one must have faith in oneself and never give in to testing situations. Only those who put all their efforts into pursuing their dreams will reap the benefits of their labor. Get into the chaos and embrace it happily. If life is difficult, then prove that you are also difficult and then success will surely touch your feet. This is all I have to say, thank you everyone!

Short One Minute Speech on Life is a Gift

In short, life is the most precious gift that God has given to us, and it’s up to us how we wish to use it. It’s either up to us or it’s down to us based on our actions. As such, it’s a very relevant topic to discuss in school, college, the workplace or in public. We are of course concerned about the recklessness with which our youth are wasting their lives and whiling away their time these days.

Every single day we should be grateful to God for giving us this life and another day to achieve our goals. There is no one like you, and there never will be, so cherish your uniqueness. It surprises me how often I hear people blame God for things they don’t have and curse their liveliness, but they have no idea how valuable their lives are if they work hard to make them worthwhile.

The value of life comes from this thinking, and it is through the love of family and friends that life can be made beautiful. We also make our lives more beautiful and fulfilling by discharging our duties in our families, at work, in our communities, and in the world at large.

Speech on Life is Beautiful For Students

Good morning everyone – how are you? Let’s make today a special class by not discussing your syllabus or exams, but by discussing a topic everyone can relate to, namely… That’s life.  How do you define life? What does life mean to you?

Every day, we have the opportunity to live a meaningful life and support others in doing so. The length of your life doesn’t matter; the quality of your life matters. I would also like to acknowledge how many lives you have touched through your encouragement and love.

We all live in fear of death. Death is inevitable for everyone, but that doesn’t mean it should stop us from living our lives to the fullest or achieving our goals. The wise person is the one who is prepared to meet the end when it comes, but enjoys every moment until then. It is a feeling of preparedness. To be able to wake up to a life eternal, every individual must go through the bridge of death in their lives.

Even if you don’t believe it, the secret of life is best known by those who are not attached to anything deeply to the extent that they remain untainted by worries or shifting fortunes. Those who measure their lives in terms of people who cannot be lived without, rather than material possessions, are considered to be the real living.

The gift of life, which is given to us by God in the form of trust that we will make it meaningful in whatever way we can, is also about stewardship. As long as we keep this in the back of our minds, we will never forget that we are responsible for the opportunities, the treasures, and the talents he has given us.

This is in line with the teachings of Jesus, who stated, “Man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment.” Likewise, good deeds will definitely be rewarded in this world, and that evil which takes place will be put right.

Al pacino any given Sunday Speech:

Al Pacino’s speech in the movie “Any Given Sunday” is a powerful and inspiring monologue that has become iconic over the years. It is a rallying cry for those who are faced with struggles and adversity, urging them to never give up and always fight for what they believe in.

The speech begins with Pacino’s character, Tony D’Amato, sitting in a locker room surrounded by his football team. He starts off with a quote from the legendary coach Vince Lombardi, “Today, I want to talk to you about being inches.” This sets the tone for the rest of the speech, emphasizing the importance of every little effort and inch towards achieving greatness.

Throughout the speech, Pacino’s character talks about how life is a game of inches, how the margin for error is so small that any little mistake can make all the difference. He goes on to say that in football and in life, we have to fight for every inch, because that’s what ultimately separates the winners from the losers.

But it’s not just about fighting for yourself, as D’Amato says in his speech, “The team with the best individual players will win every time, but the team with the best heart and commitment to each other, that’s who wins when you add up all those inches.” He stresses the importance of teamwork and camaraderie, and how together, we can achieve more than we ever could alone.

Pacino’s character also touches on the subject of fear, and how it can hold us back from reaching our full potential. He encourages his team to face their fears head on, and not let them control or limit their actions.

The most famous line of the speech comes towards the end, when D’Amato declares, “In either game – life or football – the margin for error is so small. I mean one half a step too late or too early and you don’t quite make it. One half second too slow, too fast and you don’t quite catch it.” This line resonates with the audience, as it highlights the fine line between success and failure.

In conclusion, Al Pacino’s “Any Given Sunday” speech is a powerful reminder to never give up, always fight for what we believe in, and to never underestimate the importance of teamwork and perseverance. It’s a testament to the human spirit and our ability to overcome any obstacles that come our way.

So next time you’re faced with adversity, remember D’Amato’s words: “The inches we need are everywhere around us.” So keep fighting for those inches, because they could be the difference between winning and losing, in football and in life. So go out there and give it your all – because every inch counts.

Speeches about Life Lessons:

As humans, we are constantly learning and growing throughout our lives. Along the way, we encounter many experiences that shape us into who we are today. Some of these experiences may be positive while others may be challenging and difficult. However, there is always something to be learned from each and every one of them.

Life lessons can come in various forms – through relationships, career, health, or even from strangers we meet along the way. They are valuable insights that help us navigate through life and make better decisions for ourselves. In this speech, I would like to share with you some of the most important life lessons I have learned throughout my own journey.

Firstly, let’s talk about relationships. Whether it’s romantic, family or friendships, relationships play a key role in our lives. One of the most important lessons I have learned is that communication is the foundation of any healthy relationship. It’s important to express our thoughts and feelings openly and honestly, while also being mindful of how we communicate. This leads me to my next lesson – empathy. Putting yourself in someone else’s shoes allows us to better understand their perspective and truly connect with them. Empathy is a crucial element in building and maintaining meaningful relationships.

Next, let’s dive into career-related life lessons. One of the biggest lessons I have learned is to never stop learning. We live in a constantly evolving world where technology and industries are rapidly changing. In order to stay relevant and be successful in our careers, we must continuously seek knowledge and be adaptable to change. Additionally, it’s important to have a growth mindset – embracing challenges and failures as opportunities for learning and growth.

On the topic of health, I have learned that it is truly our greatest wealth. Without good health, we cannot fully enjoy all the other aspects of our lives. Taking care of ourselves physically, mentally, and emotionally should be a top priority. This includes getting enough rest, exercise, and nourishing our bodies with healthy food.

Lastly, I would like to touch on the importance of being open to learning from others. We often limit ourselves by only seeking knowledge and advice from those who are similar to us or in positions of authority. However, people from different backgrounds and experiences can offer valuable insights that we may not have considered before. Keeping an open mind and being willing to learn from anyone can lead us to new perspectives and opportunities for growth.

In conclusion, life is a continuous journey of learning and growing. Through relationships, career, health, and being open to new experiences, we can gain valuable life lessons that shape us into better individuals.

Welcome junior students,

I hope this message finds you well. As we all know, being a junior in high school can be challenging and overwhelming at times. You are caught between the excitement of growing up and the pressure of making important decisions for your future.

But let me tell you something, you are in one of the most exciting phases of your life. This is the time when you get to experience new things, discover your passions, and shape yourself into the person you want to be.

I know it’s not easy. You have to balance schoolwork, extracurricular activities, social life, and family obligations. But let me tell you a secret – the key to success is not just working hard, but also finding joy in what you do.

Yes, it’s important to study and excel in your academics, but don’t forget to make time for the things that truly make you happy. Whether it’s playing a sport, painting, writing, or simply spending time with your loved ones.

You see, life is not just about achieving goals and meeting expectations. It’s about enjoying the journey and finding fulfillment in the little moments. And trust me, those little moments will be the ones that you’ll remember the most.

So my advice to you is this – don’t let anyone else’s expectations define your journey. You have the power to create your own path and live a life that brings you happiness and satisfaction.

And when things get tough, remember that challenges are a part of life. They make us stronger, wiser, and more resilient. So don’t be afraid to take risks, make mistakes, and learn from them.

In the end, it’s not about reaching a certain destination, but rather about who you become along the way. I believe in each and every one of you, and I can’t wait to see the amazing things you’ll accomplish.

So keep your heads up high, and always remember that you are capable, you are talented, and you are destined for greatness. Thank you for listening, and I wish you all the best in your journey ahead. Let’s make it a memorable one!

Speech About Life Goals:

Hello everyone,

I am honored to be standing here today to share my thoughts with you on something that is dear to all of us – life goals. In our fast-paced and ever-changing world, it’s important for us to have a sense of direction and purpose in our lives. Life goals give us this sense of direction and help us stay focused on what truly matters.

Importance of Life Goals

Why are life goals important, you may ask? Well, let me tell you. Having clear and specific life goals helps us prioritize our actions and make better decisions in our daily lives. Without them, we may feel lost or directionless, constantly chasing after the next thing without a clear purpose.

Moreover, life goals give us a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction when we achieve them. They provide a sense of accomplishment and motivate us to keep striving for even greater things in life.

Types of Life Goals

Life goals can vary greatly from person to person, as we all have our own unique desires and aspirations. However, they can generally be categorized into three main types: personal, professional, and social.

Personal goals are focused on self-improvement and can include things like learning a new skill, traveling to a certain destination, or improving personal relationships. Professional goals pertain to our career and can involve things like getting a promotion or starting our own business. Social goals revolve around making a positive impact in the world and can include volunteering, raising awareness for a cause, or helping those in need.

Creating Life Goals

Now that we understand the importance of life goals and the different types, how do we go about creating them? The key is to make sure our goals are SMART – specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. This ensures that our goals are realistic and have a clear plan of action. Additionally, it’s important to regularly review and adjust our goals as we grow and change throughout life.

Overcoming Obstacles

Of course, setting life goals is the easy part – achieving them is where the real challenge lies. Along the way, we may face obstacles that hinder our progress or make us doubt ourselves. But remember, challenges are a natural part of life and they only make us stronger. It’s important to stay resilient and have a positive mindset when facing challenges, as they can often lead us to new opportunities and growth.

In conclusion, life goals are an essential part of our journey in this world. They give us direction, motivation, and a sense of fulfillment. So take the time to reflect on your own personal, professional, and social goals and start working towards them today. Remember to stay focused, persistent, and adaptable, as you never know what amazing things you can achieve when you have a clear purpose in life. Thank you.

2 Minutes Speech About Life:

Hello Everyone! Today, I want to take a few minutes to talk about something that is essential to all of us – Life. Life is beautiful and fragile at the same time. It is what makes us human beings. We are born, we grow up, we learn, we experience and eventually one day, we leave this world. But in between those two lines lies the journey of life, and it is what we make of it that truly matters.

As someone who has lived for a few decades now, I have come to understand that life is not easy. It throws challenges at us, makes us face hardships, but most importantly, it gives us opportunities. Opportunities to learn, to grow and to become better versions of ourselves. No matter how many times you may fall, the key is to always get back up and keep moving forward.

Life is all about making choices. Sometimes we choose the right path and sometimes we make mistakes. But every decision that we make shapes our life in one way or another. And that’s what makes it so unpredictable and exciting at the same time. We never know what each day will bring us; but it’s up to us to make the most of it.

One thing that I have learned over the years is that life is not just about our own journey, but also about the people we meet along the way. They become a part of our story and play important roles in shaping who we are. It’s essential to cherish these relationships, nurture them, and be grateful for the people that come into our lives.

Another aspect of life that I want to touch upon is personal growth. Life is a continuous process of learning, and it’s up to us to keep growing through every experience. Whether it’s trying new things, stepping out of our comfort zone or pushing ourselves beyond our limits – these are the moments that define us and make our life worth living.

But amidst all the chaos and hustle of life, it’s essential to take a step back and appreciate the little things. The beauty of nature, laughter of loved ones or simply the joy of being alive – these are the moments that fill our hearts with warmth and make this journey worthwhile.

In conclusion, life is an amazing adventure filled with twists and turns, ups and downs, happiness and sadness. It’s up to us how we navigate through it and make the most of every moment. So let’s embrace this gift of life, learn from our experiences, cherish our relationships and keep growing every day. Thank you!

Today, I would like to share a few thoughts on life – the one precious gift that we all have received. As cliché as it may sound, life truly is a blessing. It is what makes us who we are and gives us the opportunity to experience this world in all its beauty.

Life is unpredictable, full of ups and downs, twists and turns. But isn’t that what makes it exciting? The uncertainties, the challenges, and the triumphs – everything adds to the richness of our lives. It is like a rollercoaster ride, with its highs and lows, but we must embrace every moment of it.

One thing we often forget in the hustle and bustle of everyday life is to appreciate the present moment. We are always chasing the future or dwelling in the past, forgetting to live in the present. But let me tell you, life is happening right now, at this very moment. So let’s cherish it and make the most of it.

Life also teaches us valuable lessons – some through hardships and others through joyous moments. It is during these times that we discover our strength, resilience, and the power to overcome any obstacle. So let’s not shy away from challenges, but face them with determination.

Moreover, life is all about connections – the people we meet, the relationships we form, and the memories we create. It is these connections that make our lives meaningful and worth living. So let’s cherish our loved ones and spread love and kindness wherever we go.

In the end, life is a precious gift that we must never take for granted. Let’s make the most of it by being grateful, living in the present, and spreading love and positivity. Thank you.

Speech about Life in the Future:

Welcome everyone,

Today, I want to talk to you about a topic that has been on my mind for a while now – the future. Specifically, I want to discuss what life could look like in the future, and how we can prepare ourselves for it.

As we all know, the world is constantly changing and evolving. With advancements in technology, medicine, and science, our lives have transformed drastically over the years. Just think about it – smartphones, electric cars, virtual reality – these were only a dream just a few decades ago, and now they are an integral part of our daily lives.

So, what does this mean for the future? Well, it means that our world is going to change even more dramatically in the years to come. And with these changes, we can expect our way of living to be significantly different as well.

One of the biggest changes I foresee is the increased use of technology in our everyday lives. Just look at how much we rely on technology now – from online shopping and banking to social media and communication, it has become deeply ingrained in our routines. And I believe this trend will only continue, with technology becoming even more integrated into every aspect of our lives.

But while this may seem like an exciting and convenient future, there are also concerns about how it will affect our privacy and security. With the rise of automation and artificial intelligence, there is a genuine fear that jobs may become obsolete and humans will be replaced by machines.

However, I believe that with every challenge comes an opportunity. While some jobs may indeed become automated, new career paths in technology and science will emerge, creating possibilities we never thought possible. And with the advancements in medicine, we can also expect to live longer and healthier lives.

But amidst all these changes, one thing will remain constant – us humans. Our values, emotions, and relationships will still be a crucial aspect of our lives. While technology may connect us globally, it is important not to forget the importance of face-to-face interactions and building genuine connections with one another.

So, my message to you today is this – embrace the future with an open mind. Instead of fearing the unknown, let’s prepare ourselves for it by staying informed and adapting to new technologies and lifestyles. And most importantly, let’s not forget the essence of what makes us human – our ability to empathize, connect, and create meaningful relationships.

Speech about Life Experiences:

Life. It’s a journey filled with ups and downs, twists and turns, joy and sorrow. Each one of us has our own unique experiences that shape who we are today. And in this speech, I want to share some of my own life experiences with you.

Growing up, I was always a shy and introverted child. I struggled to make friends and often felt like I didn’t fit in. But as I entered my teenage years, I discovered my passion for music and it helped me come out of my shell. I joined a band and for the first time, I felt like I belonged somewhere.

However, life has a way of throwing unexpected curveballs. During college, I lost my father to a sudden illness. It was a devastating experience that taught me the fragility of life and to cherish every moment with loved ones.

But even in the darkest of times, there is always a glimmer of hope. I found solace in writing and it became my outlet for processing my emotions.

After college, I took a leap of faith and moved to a new city for a job opportunity. It was a scary and exhilarating experience, but it taught me to be independent and resilient.

And most recently, I became a parent. This has been the biggest life experience for me as it has challenged me in ways I never thought possible. But it has also brought immeasurable joy and love into my life.

Life is a journey of continuous growth and learning. And through all the highs and lows, I have come to understand that it’s not about the destination, but rather the lessons and experiences we gain along the way. So embrace your own life experiences, for they are what make you uniquely you. Thank you

Speech about Life after Matric:

Good morning everyone, I hope you all are doing well. Today, I have been given the opportunity to share my thoughts on a topic that is very close to every student’s heart – life after matric.

As we all know, matriculation is an important milestone in our academic journey. It marks the end of our high school years and the beginning of a new chapter in our lives. The thought of leaving behind the familiar surroundings of school and embarking on a new journey can be both exciting and daunting at the same time.

For most of us, this is the first time we will be making important decisions that will shape our future. We are bombarded with questions from family, friends, and even ourselves – What career path should I choose? Which university should I apply to? Should I take a gap year?

But, let me tell you something – it’s okay to not have all the answers right now. It’s completely normal to feel overwhelmed and unsure about your future. Sometimes, we need to take a step back and evaluate our options before making any decisions.

However, one thing is for sure – life after matric is full of opportunities. It’s a chance for us to explore our interests, discover new passions and pave our own path towards success.

Some of you may choose to further your studies at a university or college, while others may opt for vocational training or enter the workforce directly. No matter which path you choose, it’s important to remember that there is no right or wrong way to go about it.

One of the biggest misconceptions about life after matric is that success can only be measured by academic achievements. But, let me assure you, success comes in many forms and each person’s journey is unique. Don’t let anyone else’s expectations dictate your future.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, life after matric is a time of growth, discovery and endless possibilities. It’s a time to embrace change, learn from our mistakes and make the most out of every opportunity that comes our way. My advice to all of you is to follow your heart, trust in yourself and enjoy this new chapter in your life. Thank you for listening.

How to Give a Speech: 10 Tips for Powerful Public Speaking

how-to-give-a-speech

When we start preparing to give a speech, it can be a nerve-wracking experience. It’s completely normal—most of us feel a combination of excitement and nerves when we’re about to take the stage.

However, with some strategic planning and practical advice, you can make sure your speech is powerful and effective. In this blog post, we’ll explore how to give a speech that will leave your audience engaged and inspired.

We’ll examine 10 tips to help you build a powerful speech, from outlining your points methodically to crafting captivating introductions . Whether you’re a beginner or experienced public speaker, these nuggets of wisdom will help you take your next speech to the next level. Let’s get started!

Quick Review of Key Points

Preparing ahead of time is the key to giving an effective speech. Make sure to structure your speaking points, rehearse your delivery, and be aware of the needs of your audience for maximum impact.

How to Prepare for a Speech

Preparing for a speech is an essential step to public speaking success. It can help to build your confidence, create content that reaches the audience, and reduce performance anxiety.

Although it can be time-consuming in the beginning, preparation will ensure less stress and more comfort during delivery. Here are some tips to consider when preparing for a speech:

Practice : Before delivering a speech, practice it out loud several times. This will allow you to gain experience in speaking without an audience and increase your confidence when you do have one.

Practicing also helps to identify awkward moments in the speech or any difficult phrases which then can be changed or removed altogether. Additionally, it helps you determine where to pause for effect. Research : Depending on the topic of the speech , research should be done beforehand to gather information that is relevant and interesting for the audience. It is important to get acquainted with the language typically used by audiences to ensure a clear understanding of what is being said.

Additionally, relevant statistics and stories concerning the topic are a great way to draw in listeners and make the presentation more engaging .

Know Your Audience : When preparing your speech, be sure to consider who will be listening. For instance, if giving a presentation at work, include industry jargon that members would understand and include relevant topics from publications that might be familiar to the employees.

On the other hand, if consulting business professionals in their field then technical language may be easier for them to comprehend than laypeople or students.

By gathering valuable information about the topic and getting comfortable with a speech’s content and delivery through practice, speakers will gain more assurance during their talk as well as respect from their audience.

Preparing beforehand not only gives insight into how to engage listeners but also encourages more meaningful conversations after the event. Now that we have discussed how to prepare for a speech let us move on to creating an outline which will provide structure during delivery.

Create an Outline

After determining the audience and purpose of your speech, the next step to effective public speaking is to create an outline .

An outline serves as a roadmap to ensure that your speech has a logical flow and contains all important points. It also can help keep you on track during the speech itself, allowing you to stay focused and organized.

When constructing an outline, consider drawing up both a main point and sub-points for each portion of the speech. Both should be relevant to the goal of the presentation and backed up by facts and research.

Brainstorming can help in this process; try grouping your ideas together in clusters to make sure you cover all possible angles.

Furthermore, writing out exact quotations or figures can prove beneficial in forming a cohesive argument. At this stage, it is also wise to decide where transitions, humor, stories, or other engaging techniques will be included.

While there are differing opinions as to whether outlines should be memorized or simply used as a reference while speaking, many agree that they should serve their purpose – not only articulate the main thoughts of the speech but also assist the speaker with maintaining focus and preventing distractions.

The debate between those who advocate for memorization versus casual consulting touches upon issues such as rehearsal time, risk of errors in delivery, ease of practice versus actual performance and more.

Each side has valid arguments that should be weighed prior to deciding what type of approach best suits your needs.

Having a firmly constructed outline acts as a valuable tool when it comes time to deliver a powerful public speech. By actively utilizing this tactic, speakers may not only enhance their clarity and coherence, but also add structure and vibrance to their presentations.

Now that we have explored what goes into crafting an effective outline, let’s dive deeper into how we can best collect resources and research our topics for maximum impact.

Collect Sources and Research

Collecting sources and research is a crucial step for any public speaking engagement. It ensures that you have the necessary information to make strong points and back up your statements.

Before writing your speech, take time to research your topic to gain familiarity with different perspectives, facts, and counterpoints. This will help you to craft an argument that can stand up to scrutiny while also adding a breadth of knowledge to your speech.

Interviews can be a powerful source of evidence and anecdotes, so try to include one or two relevant interviews in your research process. Relying solely on secondary sources such as books and articles can lead to a narrow scope of understanding.

Interviews provide an opportunity to hear directly from an expert and create an interesting dynamic in your speech by adding personal experiences as well as commentary from a professional.

In research it is important to stay objective. Gather a variety of perspectives and be open-minded about their merits. Don’t forget to consider both sides of the argument when researching for your speech.

Doing this allows you to understand the opposing perspective and enables you to anticipate potential counter arguments from your audience.

By acknowledging them beforehand, you may increase the persuasive power of your speech by showing confidence in the points you make.

Once you have collected all sources, review them carefully and separate the most pertinent information from the less useful material.

Synthesising this information into concise yet impactful points is a critical part in delivering powerful talks without overloading your audience with too much data or going off track during your speech delivery.

Organizing Your Speech

Before you start putting your words together, it’s important to consider how the different parts of a speech fit together. By taking the time to organize the ideas in your speech , you’ll be able to deliver a presentation that is well-constructed and easy to understand.

One way to help with organizing your speech is to write an outline . An outline is like a map or plan that will provide you with a framework for each section of your speech.

Start by writing out your main points and then include additional details underneath each one. This will help keep your speech focused and provide direction for where you are going next.

Another approach for organizing your speech is known as the “inverted pyramid” method. This structure starts with your conclusion at the beginning of the speech, and then works backward by providing more explanation and detail as it moves toward the introduction.

This method can be helpful when speaking about topics that are unfamiliar to the audience since it doesn’t require them to wait until near the end of the presentation to learn what you’ve been talking about.

No matter which organization approach you choose, make sure to practice it before giving your speech so that you are comfortable with its flow. Lastly, remember that it’s ok to adjust things while you speak if they don’t seem or feel quite right.

Now let’s take a look at how we can use these organizing techniques to actually put our speeches together – starting with structuring our speech.

Structure Your Speech

Creating a strong structure for your speech will ensure that the audience stays engaged and understands your main points. As you are developing an outline, map out how you want to begin and end your speech.

Break up the information into smaller sections with either verbal or visual cues so that your audience can clearly see how you are transitioning between topics . Consider adding humor judiciously throughout your presentation as this could help engage the audience and lighten any tension.

The length of your presentation is also important. You will want to make sure that you include all of the necessary information without going over time.

Oftentimes less is more; if you can say it in five minutes why use ten? Make sure that you practice timed rehearsals so that you can gauge how long you’re actually speaking.

In contrast, avoid trying to pack too much content into one presentation as this could overwhelm both you and the audience. If needed, offer supplemental reading materials for those who may be interested in delving further into the subject matter.

Paragraphs can also be helpful when organizing large amounts of content within the body of your presentation. Utilizing paragraph breaks gives your audience a break and helps to highlight key ideas or summaries before moving onto a new topic area.

Finally, it is crucial to remember what your desired outcome is from the presentation; plan accordingly by ensuring that the beginning, middle, and end serve their respective purposes and adhere to that goal.

With careful deliberations, structuring a successful presentation can be achieved with relative ease.

Having established a solid structure for your speech, it’s important to focus on another key element: rehearsal. The next section will discuss the benefits of practicing before delivering a powerful public speaking performance.

Rehearse Your Speech

Rehearsing is integral to giving a successful speech. When you rehearse your presentation, you give your mind an opportunity to become familiar with the notes and concepts that you are presenting. It also increases your confidence and reduces anxiety or self-doubt.

In fact, studies have found that those who rehearsed their presentation had higher scores in public speaking performance and language proficiency evaluations.

When it comes to how much rehearsal is enough, opinions are divided. Some people believe that over-rehearsing can lead to a more robotic speech with less natural emotion and connection with the audience .

On the other hand, others argue that no matter how well-versed someone is on the topic, additional rehearsal time improves both the delivery of the speech and memorization of key points and facts.

Ultimately, it’s important to practice until you personally find the most comfortable level for yourself, as this will ultimately result in a more engaging delivery.

Finally, if at all possible, try to practice in front of a friend or colleague for honest feedback on any elements that need improvement before the big day. Rehearsal dedication may be tedious, but it results in big rewards on stage–enabling you to deliver your content with clarity, confidence, and poise.

With thoughtful preparation complete, it’s now time to step into the spotlight and give your speech!

Giving Your Speech

The key to success when giving a speech is to be well prepared and confident. Every individual’s preparation process will vary, but the basics should stay the same.

Start by studying your content, understanding the material and being able to repeat it in your own words. Clarify any potentially difficult points. Create visual aids like PowerPoint slides or handouts that supplement the key ideas in your speech.

Practice your public speaking skills with informal conversations with friends and family or rehearse it alone in front of a mirror. Use visualization; imagine yourself confidently delivering your speech. Consider addressing a practice audience if possible to become more accustomed to a live size group.

On the day of the event, arrive early and plan for any potential obstacles: What if my computer doesn’t work? What if I forget something? Allow sufficient time for setup and check-in.

When you are ready to give your speech, take some deep breaths, focus on the positives, and distract yourself from any anxious thoughts with positive affirmations. Remember you have prepared diligently for this moment, you are well prepared and you will succeed!

Start strong by engaging the audience immediately with an attention grabbing opening statement. Speak clearly and make sure that everyone can hear and understand your message.

Slow down and emphasize points as needed throughout your presentation. Be aware of pace, volume, and tone of voice: too fast/monotone can confuse/bore listeners while pauses add a dramatic effect that keeps their interest piqued.

Ultimately, giving a successful speech will depend on knowing your material well enough to speak confidently in front of your audience without hesitation or missteps.

When you do make a mistake (and they happen!) don’t panic – know that mistakes are inevitable but don’t be discouraged; get back on track as soon as possible and continue at the same energy level you had before the mistake occurred.

Having successfully given your speech, take a moment to reflect on what went well and what could be improved upon for next time before transitioning into the next step: mastering delivery.

Master Your Delivery

Mastering your delivery is the key to an effective speech. Without purposeful body language and careful emphasis on certain words , your speech may lack wow-factor and prevent listeners from tuning in. Following these simple tips can help you get started with delivering an engaging and memorable speech:

The most important part of delivery is practice. Rehearse and perfect your speech ahead of time – this allows for more natural flow and confidence during your presentation. It also helps to create pauses between sentences for clarity, emphasize key points, and not be too casual or stiff.

Practicing inflections and varying tones adds interest to your speech by keeping listeners’ attention.

Additionally, it’s important to project your voic e so everyone in the room can hear you; make sure you’re speaking loud enough but don’t feel pressure to shout or yell at any point unless that’s part of the atmosphere of the event.

It’s also crucial to maintain good posture while speaking – stand tall with both feet on the ground, keep your back straight, hold yourself up without gesturing too much or leaning against a podium if applicable.

To further engage listeners, use purposeful hand gestures as they help emphasize certain points and add visual interest – however, avoid overusing them as it can hinders communication.

Make meaningful eye contact with audience members throughout the presentation – otherwise you might come across as unenthusiastic or bored with what you’re saying which deters attention away from the content itself.

By mastering your delivery, you can boost the impact of your presentation considerably – providing a memorable experience for your audience that stands out from others’. As such, it’s worth investing time into practicing ahead of time until delivery feels comfortable and second nature.

Having said this, making use of visual aids such as PowerPoint slides can greatly improve the impact of a speech once delivery has been mastered – let’s look into that next.

Use Visual Aids

Using visual aids can help presenters express concepts more clearly and engage the audience.

Visuals are particularly useful when conveying complex information, such as data, trends, or statistics — they impart meaning at a glance. But some public speakers may wonder if visual aids can be distracting or unnecessary.

Even though visuals can attract attention away from a presenter’s verbal delivery, carefully designed visuals can actually support the speech and help provide clarity. If done well, visuals are effective for capturing an audience’s interest and helping them to better understand the content being presented.

For example, a graph or chart should relate to the points made in the speech and should be discussed in more detail during its appearance onscreen. The presentation can also include larger images that effectively reinforce the ideas conveyed in the speech.

Videos and sound clips are other powerful forms of multimedia that could be employed to make the speech more meaningful.

To ensure that visuals enhance the message of the presentation, key factors to consider include relevancy to topic, good graphic design or aesthetics, accurate size to prevent distortion or blurriness, and seamless integration into the keynote slides or printed handouts .

In this way, visuals offer an opportunity for presenters to demonstrate their creativity and keep their audiences interested in what is being said. Thus, used wisely and aptly, visuals can add tremendous value to speeches by presenting arguments more efficiently and driving home important points. Now let’s explore effective techniques for speech giving that will allow you to craft and deliver your speeches with confidence.

Effective Techniques for Speech Giving

There are a number of effective techniques for giving a speech that will help you deliver it with confidence and poise.

First, practice your delivery in advance. You should practice both in front of a mirror or recording device to check for any distracting habits such as talking too quickly or mispronouncing words.

Second, use simple, clear language and short, concise sentences. Avoid overly technical terms and jargon that may leave your audience confused.

Third, work to establish a connection with your audience by using appropriate facial expressions and hand gestures while speaking.

Fourth, utilize effective persuasive techniques such as presenting evidence, strong arguments supported by facts, personal anecdotes and vivid metaphors.

Finally, articulate an organized structure for your speech. Your speech should have an introduction, body and conclusion to clearly communicate the main point and provide the audience with the necessary context to understand it better.

While these techniques may sound intimidating at first, they can be learned over time with practice and will make all the difference in how successful your speech delivery is received by your audience.

To build on these skills further , the next section will provide tips on how to build confidence when giving a speech.

Building Confidence

Building confidence is key when giving a powerful speech, as it will enable you to deliver the speech in a more poised and credible manner.

To create this confidence , start by understanding that any hesitation or butterflies prior to your speech are completely normal and should not be feared. Instead, view them as natural states of anticipation for something exciting, knowing that you are about to give an amazing speech.

Next, understanding who your audience is and tailoring your speech to meet their expectations will help build your confidence.

Familiarizing yourself with their interests and knowledge on the subject matter ahead of time can equip you with the understanding needed to respond appropriately if questions arise or objections surface during the speech.

Further, practice is key when building confidence for a public speaking engagement . Rehearsing with friends or colleagues before hand will give you an opportunity to learn where problem areas are within the content of your speech, as well as help solidify your delivery by becoming more comfortable with each step.

Checking sound levels in the room you’re presenting in coupled with learning where exits/emergency locations are located within that space can also help alleviate stress levels and boost self-assurance while delivering the speech.

Finally, wearing comfortable clothing and dressing professionally adds an extra layer of confidence when speaking in public.

If possible, bring an additional outfit on hand during the presentation in case of spills or accidents that would require a quick change between sections of the talk. Having this back-up plan in place can aid in keeping peace of mind at ease throughout the speech.

In conclusion, building confidence prior to a public speaking event can mean the difference between a good and great delivery of your message.

By taking into account each of these tips you can ensure that this part of your preparation runs smoothly and sets you up for success when delivering powerful speeches.

With a well-crafted note card of talking points and strong sense of self-assurance, it’s time to start speaking with passion!

Speaking with Passion

As a public speaker, your audience expects you to engage not only with your words but also with your emotions. To share the most impactful message, it is important to speak passionately about your subject.

Doing so will make your speech more memorable and thereby more effective in convincing your audience of its legitimacy.

The power of speaking authentically with emotion lies in its relatability and connection. Showing feelings allows people to connect with you as a person rather than just a speaker. It opens the door to understanding through empathy and active listening .

Examples might include adding personal stories , telling jokes, or displaying your feelings openly during the delivery of your message.

However, not all topics lend themselves easily to expressing emotion. If the subject matter is overly complex or technical there may be less opportunity for emotional expression—but this doesn’t mean those conversations can’t incorporate emotion.

Even if faced with a difficult situation such as death or financial turmoil, emotions can still be conveyed in a respectful way that keeps audiences engaged.

Remember that how much emotion you show depends on the type of audience you’re sharing it with—using sensitivity when delivering passionate speeches helps avoid awkwardness or embarrassment for any attendees who may find opinionated language uncomfortable for whatever reason.

Striking the right balance between being straightforward and showing compassion takes practice, so take the time to develop a style that works best for you and improves upon each performance.

Finally, incorporating passion into a speech gives it life and makes it relatable and engaging—which are essential elements to speaking effectively.

Having passion means giving ourselves permission to take ownership over our stories, making them deeply personal in order to reach our goals and touch people’s hearts in meaningful ways. With that said, let’s move on to discussing how we should tackle dealing with challenges while giving a speech.

Dealing with Challenges

The process of delivering a speech can be challenging, but it is also rewarding. Difficulties can arise during the process that may threaten to derail your success. To ensure you are adequately prepared for these possible pitfalls it is important to consider strategies for proactively mitigating the risk of encountering these challenges. 1. Public Speaking Anxiety: Many people experience some form of anxiety when asked to speak in public. There are a number of techniques available to combat this fear and increase confidence, such as deep breathing exercises, mental rehearsal, positive self-talk and visualization of success.

Learning about the audience, creating an engaging presentation and using props or visual aids can also help reduce anxiety levels and create a better overall experience for both the speaker and the audience. 2. Unfamiliar Topics or Audiences: When presenting on unfamiliar topics or to an unknown audience it can be difficult to prepare effectively.

In this situation it is important to conduct research on the topic and familiarize yourself with the needs of your audience so that the content is tailored accordingly. It is also helpful to use humor or stories related to the topic in order to engage your audience and make them more receptive to your message. 3. Lack of Support: If you lack support from family, friends, colleagues or mentors, it can be difficult to push through difficult conversations or speeches without any additional motivation.

To overcome this challenge, seek out peer mentorship opportunities or find compatible online communities where people discuss similar topics or objectives. Here you can share ideas, provide feedback and learn from others who have experienced similar issues. 4. Time Constraints: One of the biggest challenges when giving a speech is managing your time effectively in order to deliver an effective message without going over allotted timeslots and boring your audience .

To successfully address this challenge try setting manageable goals for each section of your speech and practice regularly. Replicating real-time conditions as closely as possible will help you stay within time constraints when delivering your speech on the day itself. In conclusion, there are many potential challenges you may face when giving a speech or taking part in a public speaking event – but with proper preparation and practice they are easily managed if approached correctly.

With knowledge of techniques for dealing with such scenarios comes increased confidence when stepping up to the podium – further improving your chances of delivering an effective speech that resonates with your audience members.

Responses to Frequently Asked Questions

How should i end my speech to leave a lasting impression.

The best way to end your speech is by reinforcing your main point and summarizing the key takeaways. You should also encourage the audience to take action, whether it be to sign up for a newsletter, make a donation, or visit your website for more information. This final call to action will not only leave a lasting impression on the audience but will also help you achieve any goals you might have had when making your speech in the first place.

What techniques can I use to keep my audience engaged during my speech?

One of the best techniques for keeping an audience engaged during a speech is to keep it interactive . Ask questions throughout the presentation, as well as allowing for audience input and discussion. This can help to keep people’s attention and create a more engaging experience.

Another great tip is to use humor. Even if you don’t consider yourself a natural comedian, sprinkling in a few jokes here and there can break up the monotony of long speeches and keep people interested. Humor can also help to make points stick in people’s minds, making them easier to remember.

Finally, try to be enthusiastic about the content of your speech. If you show too much indifference or lethargic behavior, it will discourage your audience from paying attention and taking your message seriously.

Instead, be passionate about what you are saying so that the energy of your words carries into the room and engages your audience with excitement.

How can I use storytelling to make my speech more interesting?

Storytelling is a powerful tool that can be used to make any speech more interesting. Telling stories in your speech will help engage the audience and make your message stick. Here are some tips for using storytelling in your speech:

1. Choose stories that are relevant to your message and audience. Think about stories that will best illustrate the point you are trying to convey, or evoke emotions in your listeners. 2. Use vivid descriptions and visuals when telling your story. Be sure to include details such as setting, character descriptions, dialogue and plot points. This will help to bring the story to life for your audience. 3. Make sure the story you are telling has a strong conclusion or moral at the end. This will help add emphasis to your message and make it memorable. 4. Practice telling stories out loud before delivering a speech with them. Rehearsing will help you deliver your story more effectively and with more confidence in front of an audience. By using these tips, storytelling can be an effective tool to make any speech more interesting, engaging, and persuasive!

How can I prepare for my speech effectively?

Preparing for a speech effectively is essential to delivering an impactful and memorable presentation. Here are some tips: 1. Have a clear goal in mind. Before starting to prepare, ask yourself what the purpose of giving the speech is: what message do you want to convey? Defining this will help to structure your content and focus your research. 2. Research thoroughly. Make sure you understand the subject matter well, so that your delivery sounds confident and inspiring. Using facts and data will strengthen your arguments and make your talk more convincing. 3. Outline your speech. Make a rough outline of how you want it to go – from beginning to end – well in advance of the actual presentation. This will give you a strong foundation upon which you can craft an engaging talk with an effective narrative arc that keeps audiences interested and engaged. 4. Practice regularly. Rehearsing your speech out loud several times is key to ensuring that you know it well enough to feel comfortable when delivering it live in front of an audience.

5. Time yourself. Record how long it takes for you to go through your entire speech, so that you can adjust the length as needed before delivering it live – remember that most speeches should last no more than 10-15 minutes. 6. Identify potential questions from the audience and prepare answers before hand. Knowing ahead of time what kind of questions people may ask can help reduce the anxiety of not knowing what comes next, enabling you to stay confident when speaking in public. 7. Work on building up confidence levels before delivering a speech. Visualize yourself succeeding in delivering a great presentation; practice relaxation techniques such as deep breathing or positive self-talk; or use props during practice sessions such as water bottles or stress balls if needed to remain calm during the real thing!

What strategies can I use to reduce my anxiety when giving a speech?

1. Plan Ahead: Create an outline of your speech beforehand and practice it multiple times to become familiar with the content. Doing a trial run with the audience can also help you get used to speaking in front of people.

2. Visualize Success: Positive visualization is a great way to reduce anxiety before giving a speech. Imagine yourself confidently delivering the speech while feeling relaxed and composed.

3. Get Organized: Make sure you have all the materials necessary for your presentation, including notes, slides, etc., to reduce any additional stress that may come from not having what you need when you speak.

4. Take Deep Breaths: Before and during the speech, take a few deep breaths as this will help calm nerves and make sure your breathing is regulated throughout the duration of your presentation.

5. Speak Slowly: It is common to feel anxious while giving a speech and try to rush through it too quickly. Speaking slowly helps maintain composure while delivering your message effectively and clearly.

6. Pay Attention to Your Body: Your posture, stance, movements , facial expressions can all influence how confident you appear to your audience and how nervous you may be feeling inside. Check in with yourself frequently throughout the presentation and correct any tense body language or physical actions if needed.

7. Focus on the Audience: If you notice that your anxiety levels are growing as you present, shift your focus onto the audience instead of yourself as this will help refocus your attention away from negative thoughts that may arise from fear or insecurity.

8. Make Eye Contact: Establishing eye contact with your audience is a key confidence-builder for public speakers—it shows that you’re strong, engaged with them, and receptive to feedback or questions they might have regarding your speech topic .

9. Practice Positive Affirmations: Positive thoughts will boost your self-confidence as well as your mood which can help increase performance quality significantly during speeches or presentations in general—so don’t forget to tell yourself “you can do it!” several times throughout the day leading up to the event!

10. Seek Support of Friends & Family: Many experienced public speakers suggest seeking support of close friends & family members prior and during their speeches—not only does it allow helpful critique regarding content but it also creates a more comfortable atmosphere while speaking which can reduce pre-speech jitters drastically.

5 Expert Tips for Giving the Speech of Your Life TEDx talk coming up? Something pivotal to your organization's survival? Crucial communications moments require giving more than just a 'speech.' Here's how to do that.

By Maria Ross • Jul 9, 2018

Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own.

There's that invitation that involves public speaking that you want to accept. And then there's that once-in-a-lifetime speech you want that invitation to become.

You know the kind of speech I'm referring to: the pivotal presentation that defines a person, cause or culture -- that crucial communications moment your audience members will remember for weeks afterward.

Related: 7 Powerful Public Speaking Tips From One of the Most-Watched TED Talks Speakers

To set the stage (pun intended) for this event, imagine an imaginary setting: a new CEO's first all-hands-on meeting with a global company following a contentious merger. If the organization is to survive, our CEO must project confidence and optimism.

Alternatively, picture a city official making the case to the International Olympic Committee to bring the Games -- and the $5.2 billion in revenue associated with them -- to his city.

Or think about an impassioned thought leader poised to convince a TED audience that his idea will revolutionize how schools operate. Or maybe the speaker is a humanitarian preparing to convince the United Nations to continue funding a violence protection program for poor women in the developing world; those women are counting on the speaker's program to keep them out of harm's way.

It's clear by now that this speech isn't going to be about quarterly sales, a status meeting or routine presentation. No, this is one of those make-or-break moments when the speaker must persuade, inspire and/or win big because the stakes are just that high.

To find out what such an accomplishment would need to entail, I reached out to five experts whose clients have included the real-life CEO, city official, thought leader and humanitarian living these crucial communications moments. Below I share their best tips for transforming a good speech into the speech heard 'round the world.

1. Go beyond holding people's attention. Get them to feel, know, do.

If you're preparing to give the speech of your life, you probably mastered the art of holding the attention of an audience years ago. But in these pivotal moments, you want more than people's eyes and ears trained on you. "You want your audience to feel, know and do specific things," says Alexandra Franzen, a professional writer, author and writing coach.

Although we don't currently work together, Franzen and I collaborated many years ago, putting together messaging for my brand strategy clients. I've followed her work online ever since and attended her workshop. So I know firsthand that her insights are valuable for connecting with an audience, since she's helped hundreds of change-makers prepare for big-stakes speeches like TEDx Talks, movie and TV pitches and conference keynotes.

Working behind the scenes as a ghostwriter and speechwriter for some big names, Franzen swears by her Feel -- Know -- Do technique because she says it challenges clients to think more deeply about their presentation's vision and purpose.

Keep in mind that while your purpose in taking the stage may be obvious to you, your audience is looking to you for direction. You're the expert, so don't be afraid to "own it." Before crafting your script and stepping onto the big stage, Franzen suggests, ask yourself the following questions: What do I want my audience to feel? Do you want them to walk away from your presentation feeling inspired, motivated, energized, understood, relieved or curious (or some other emotion)?

What do I want my audience to know? What's the big message, lesson or main piece of information you want to convey?

What do I want my audience to do? What's the action you want them to take once they step out of the room? Do you want them to vote? Donate? Sign up for your next program? Hire you?

First answering these questions can be the difference between giving a fine speech and moving your audience to take action.

2. Use emotion and logic to motivate.

Speaking of moving your audience to action, in high-stakes situations, your No. 1 goal is always t o get someone, somewhere to act differently . Never lose sight of this goal.

Many speakers mistakenly believe they're being persuasive by presenting data in the form of fancy charts, graphs and spreadsheets. Warning against this is Sally McGraw, a ghostwriter and editor currently working with some of my clients.

McGraw has helped dozens of authors craft compelling proposals and pitch letters to successfully secure book deals. "In my experience," she says, "persuasion is more about the heart than the mind. If you want to sway someone to your side, you need to convince them emotionally as well as logically." If you expect your facts to do all the heavy lifting, she says, your argument may feel dry and distant.

But if you broadcast genuine emotion, you've got a shot at winning your audience's deep trust and loyalty. McGraw suggests you share stories, anecdotes and insights, instead of focusing solely on hard evidence. "Introduce a complex concept by explaining why it's meaningful to you, or pitch an idea by describing how it changed your life," she says. "This may sound awfully woo-woo, but dang if it isn't effective."

Chip and Dan Heath, who are authors and masters of persuasion, agree with McGraw about engaging your audience emotionally. But they put their own twist on the idea. In their book, Switch , which is about convincing people to make a change, the authors use the metaphor of the Elephant and the Rider. Each of your audience members has an emotional Elephant side and a rational Rider side. To move them to act differently, you've got to address both sides.

Personally, I've never ridden an elephant, but I can imagine how difficult it might be to move one when it's feeling stubborn. The task is all about learning to speak the elephant's language. The same is true of your audience.

3. Make your first words count.

"First words matter. Make them better," Dia Bondi reminds us. Bondi is a leadership communications catalyst who has helped executives, humanitarians and government officials from organizations like the Clinton Global Initiative and the Rio Olympics Selection Committee prepare compelling speeches; so she would know.

I became acquainted with Bondi's work because we are fellow Activators in SheEO, a venture fund designed to support fledgling, women-run businesses. She's hired me in the past to work on her brand messaging.

Bondi understands how to bring crucial communications moments into stark relief: "Your time on stage will be defined by the first words you utter into the mic," she says. "Starting strong tells us what the rest of your time will be like, who you are and what you'll be expecting of us as you move through your content."

Not surprisingly, first impressions matter. From the moment we shake hands with a potential client, we know we have only a few crucial seconds to convince him or her to listen to what we have to say. Now scale that moment to giving the speech of a lifetime to an audience of hundreds.

If your palms are getting clammy, take a deep breath. Bondi's advice on those first words is "You'll know how best to start if you write your first words last. Get your story out on paper, speak it through once or twice and then ask yourself, What is the most compelling verbal entry point for your time on stage? A metaphor? A personal story? An image on the screen that provokes?"

In 2017, she recalls, she attended a large fundraiser in a standard hotel ballroom, with waiters in white vests and guests who were the predictable polite philanthropists coming to a predictable event to donate a predictable amount.

What couldn't be predicted, Bondi said, was what the recipient of an award did for her acceptance speech: "She took a deep breath and sang an American folk song, full force and a capella. In that moment, we knew who she was, what she was about and what mattered to her. From the lyrics to the delivery, she had us at hello."

Don't worry. You don't have to start with a song. But you do need to grab your audience immediately by letting them know who you are and what you're about.

4. Tell a story.

Like a great book, speeches that start a movement or motivate people to act employ skillful storytelling. There's actually a psychological reason you can recount the plot line of Breaking Bad five years after watching the final episode, but you can't remember what your financial advisor told you about stock futures yesterday.

Stories create memories with staying power because they attach emotions to events -- like Velcro in the brain. If you don't feel like an expert storyteller or are having a hard time conceptualizing what kind of story you could tell about getting your C-suite to increase your budget allocation by 200 percent, Kymberlee Weil can.

As a TEDx producer and speaking strategist and founder of Strategic Samurai, she can offer some ideas. Weil coaches speakers on how to give the speech of their lives on the TEDx stage and beyond. (In fact, I've used her services in the past in crafting ideas for TEDx events.) She has worked with more than 200 TEDx speakers worldwide, so she knows what to look for in a powerful speech.

"Your authentic story can connect your audience to you forever by allowing them to feel what you feel, see what you see and understand what you understand through your point of view," Weill told me. "Your audience may not remember a collection of facts; however, they will remember a well-crafted story."

So, instead of simply trying to convince a VC ( or Shark !) to fund your startup by talking about the macro benefits, share the personal story of one particular customer and how your offering supercharged that person's work or life. If you're asking a government official to change the law, drill down to the human impact of the request and what that means for the community.

Rather than saying, "This program benefits thousands," point out how not refunding the program could affect 10,000 women and their families in Kenya -- "like this one" (insert an image of a real family the program has helped).

5. Succeed at being you.

When all else fails, be yourself. Arrive early, greet those in the room with a warm smile, shake hands and connect before you begin speaking. "Rather than fixating on the abilities of others, concentrate on your own unique strengths. Identify what you do well, which may be as simple as a warm smile. And let your natural skills and talent shine," says Stephanie Scotti, a speaker, presentation coach, executive communications specialist and author of the forthcoming book, Talk on Water – The Mindset for Powerhouse Presentations .

In her 25-plus years' experience, Scotti told me, she's seen how letting the "real" you shine through boosts self-confidence while building rapport with your audience.

She acknowledges, however, how hard it is to step outside your comfort zone. "When faced with a high-profile presentation, many of us strive to be perfectionists," Scotti says. Whenever she helps clients to give an important speech, she tells them to remember "It's about connection, not perfection."

Giving the speech of a lifetime is an amazing opportunity. While it might feel like intense pressure, know that if you are well prepared, the odds are good you'll hit it out of the park. Take these tips with you. The next time you step up to speak, you'll deliver a speech that gets things moving.

Before starting my speech, I would like to wish greetings to all the people present here. It is a pleasure for me to deliver a speech about life. I hope you will like the words I formulated in my speech.

“Life” – The word contains only four alphabets but no one can assess its vastness in reality. In fact, most scientists are not pretty sure what life is. Every human has a different life story. Some of us experience a lot of good happenings in life whereas others experience the exact opposite.

But it is necessary for anyone to understand the fact that “life is full of joy, sorrow, ecstasy, difficulties, happiness , sorrow, victory, defeat etc. All of these elements are vital parts of a good life.

I use to experience every moment of my life whether it is a positive or a negative one. Because experiences make you bold and strong compared to the previous version of you.

-Thank you all

Short Speech About Life

Life is an element that makes a being “living” making it possible to be called “ A Living Being “. Everyone’s life is full of good experiences and bad challenges. Good experiences are loved by all and bad challenges are not. But Bad they also are necessary for us because they make us a better person compared to the previous version of us.

Furthermore, sometimes life is full of difficulties and most people don’t like difficulties and hurdles. But A person who has not encountered challenges in life can never achieve success. In fact, one should be always ready to face adversity and challenges in life as they are the reason behind one’s personal growth .

So, I live my life to the fullest. I use to experience every moment of my life whether it is a positive or a negative one. Because experiences make you bold and strong compared to the previous version of you.

-Thank you all.

Short Speech About Life- 3 Minute

Before I deliver my speech. I would like to thank you all for having me a chance at this great opportunity. And also I wish you all the best greetings.

There is no doubt that life is wonderful and so it’s every moment. Philosophers say that life is a journey where we are encountered sorrow, joy, hurdles, happiness, success, failures etc. Definitely, it is a beautiful journey with a lot of good and bad experiences.

For me, life is a celebration of being alive, but one should always be active to face adversity and difficulties. A person who has not faced difficulties in life can never achieve success. There is no human being on earth who has not experienced struggle, difficulty or failure.

I personally believe that life becomes the way one thinks about it. I remember a proverb that can be perfectly fitted here- “ When you change the way you look at things, The things you look at change “. The same goes for life- When you change the way you look at your life , life changes the way you want. This single line of words can turn your point of view about life upside down.

But hardships and challenges in life are also essential for growth. In fact , The difficult times or the bad experiences are the best teachers for oneself. They teach us life lessons that are taught by none.

You can use some Quotes About life to make this speech more personalised.

Speech About Life

Good (—). Today I would like to speak in brief about life. Life is such a beautiful thing, isn’t it? Each day reminds us of how blessed we are to live here amidst all these beautiful people. Life is different for each person. It may not be a bed of roses for everyone, but it may be filled with thorns, also. Some people excel at making the best out of every situation that life gives them through their positive outlook toward life. Some people will be unable to handle it and may think or attempt to end it.

We go through different stages of life. Each stage has something different to teach us. Sometimes we may have to unlearn what a stage taught us to survive in the next one. I feel that life is a book where you have to go through each page and each chapter to get to the next one. Each page gives you new knowledge and insight. Sometimes, we may get hints as to what may happen in the future, sometimes, it takes us there by surprise, and sometimes, we may not end up where we thought we would. Some people are open books, while some would rather prefer it to be kept close. Each person has a different life; one cannot completely know and understand what is happening in the other person’s life, no matter how close you are.

We all may have different people who help us in our journey. You may have parents, relatives, friends, spouses, teachers, and many others to support you, put you down, bring you up, care for you, hurt you, and so on. Most people are not permanent in our life. They come and go like some minor characters in a novel. Some people stay for a longer time, and we become so dependent on them that the moment they leave us, we feel as if it is the end of our life. But your life is so much more than the people you have or had with you.

You need to have a purpose for your life. Identify what it is and work for it. Make your life on earth worth it. Find ways to be happy and proud of yourself. Love yourself and the others around you. Try to make others happy. Help others. Explore the beautiful world you have been given with your loved ones and make memories. As we all know, life is not always dreamy. We will have to face obstacles. But know that this too shall pass.

Consider it as a part of your life and learn lessons from it instead of being depressed or blaming others for your fall. Know what and whom to spend your energy on. Give your time to those who deserve it. You are so blessed to breathe today while millions have struggled for one last breath. Love your life and embrace it while you can.

MOTIVATIONAL SPEECH ABOUT LIFE

Everyone is fighting for a better life in this world. But unfortunately, not everyone gets to live their choice. For some people, dreams are thoughts and aspirations for a better life, not reality. Many people don’t even realize the time and effort needed to achieve their goals.

Some still don’t have a particular ambition in their life. They are just living it and wasting it. It would help if you worked hard to keep up with the moving world and achieve everything you have dreamt of. Good things take time to happen. Believe in yourself and keep working in the direction of your choice, and you will be able to achieve everything you need.

MOTIVATIONAL SPEECH FOR SUCCESS IN LIFE

Life is never fair. It can be on your side if you work hard for it. People can be whoever they want to be. Not all successful people are born with a silver spoon; some work their way up to the top. Initially, everyone’s the same, but what makes them different is their mindset and their view of life. Keeping your goals clear, working hard, and having a positive attitude toward life can make you successful.

This world is full of competition; to win, you have to play fair and pay a reasonable price. Nothing comes for free; the price can be your time, money, and interest.

INSPIRATIONAL SPEECH ON SUCCESS

Becoming successful is not hard; it is hard to maintain it. People with situational problems should have the courage to face them and find solutions to work with them. Excuses will not lead us anywhere. Instead, people should focus on how to manage things at hand efficiently.

Success comes with pain. To be successful requires you to work endlessly and face all the challenges which come your way. It would help if you also were determined to fulfill your dreams. Keep fighting because you have to earn your success.

SPEECH ON DISCIPLINE AND PUNCTUALITY

Life is too short of achieving all. Life is meaningless without a purpose, and this purpose comes with discipline. One should be disciplined enough to handle matters to achieve something in life. It becomes easy for those who fight for it. Valuing time and money is a part of becoming disciplined. Success is not one-night magic. It takes years of effort and sleepless nights.

One should clear his mind and have a positive attitude towards life to work accordingly. Even after becoming successful, one should keep working to maintain that position.

INFORMATIVE SPEECH EXAMPLE ABOUT SUCCESS

To be successful is everyone’s dream. But not all make it to the top. A student works all day at school and then grounds. This normal routine will not get them success. Discipline in life and work helps them to get one step closer to their dream. Dreams are supposed to become a reality, but it requires an endeavor to fulfill them.

When people don’t take life seriously, life has its way of teaching them. Learning from experience and knowledge helps to secure a bright future. Keep fighting for your dreams. Then only they will come true.

WHAT IS LIFE ABOUT SPEECH?

Life is all about enjoying every moment of it. But to enjoy it, one should work for it. Life is not easy, and parents won’t support life forever. People should stand on their feet and face the world. Life is meaningless without a motive or goal to accomplish. The struggle is also a part of life and holds your strength and patience.

WHAT IS LIFE ABOUT INSPIRATIONAL SPEECH?

Life is a journey that is needed to be lived and remembered. To make life beautiful and victorious, one should work hard and fight for their dreams and ambitions. Become someone worth remembering and successful enough to satisfy their needs. The world acknowledges people with worth.

HOW TO GET EXCITED ABOUT LIFE.

Life is interesting if you live it. To live fully, we should appreciate everything we have and strive for better. People should cherish every opportunity and work to make life better. Life is all about learning who we are and how to become a better person. Fulfilling your dreams and desires is a part.

About Speech on Success

Success is not something which we achieve in a day or year as it is a process of achieving your goals and feeling good about yourself. The definition of success changes from one individual to another. For some success could be doing your dream job, having a car or it could just be marrying a person you love the most. The definition of success changes and it is not the same for everyone.

Everyone around the world is running behind success as it is believed that success would solve all problems. Is success the same for everyone? and will successfully solve all the problems? and what elements will help in making a person successful? All the answers to the questions are given below in the speech on success. Students can refer to these speeches on success and try to understand the important elements required to be successful in life.

Here we have provided a long and short speech on success and along with that we have also given 10 line pointers about the motivational speech on success in English.

The road to success does not happen overnight. Whether they are large or small, your everyday actions, activities, and encounters ultimately determine your success. Success comes when persistence and hard work are combined. Only perseverance and commitment can lead to success.

As a group, we understood that we could not achieve something without giving up something. Success demands a similar amount of sacrifice. Anyhow, you'll be able to accomplish your goal if you perform these penances. In any case, many people achieve success. The result is however that they fall behind in terms of achieving mental, social, and physical success. A lack of success in different areas causes them to become separated. It has sometimes happened that individuals have become so fixated on success that those around them find themselves feeling awkward around them. There have been times when they have gone frantic. Aside from that, if one is not making progress as fast as others, they can become discouraged. With this in mind, we can conclude that success has been severely damaged.

Long Speech on Success in English

Good morning to everyone present today. I feel humbled that I was allowed to give a speech on success. I hope everyone learns new things and your definition of success changes.

So what is success? and why is everyone running after it? We live in a period where everyone wants to be successful. They want to accomplish something in their life. It could be to get the dream job or get good grades on the exams. The point which I want to prove is that the definition of success changes from one person to another. The person sitting next to you will have a completely different view of success compared to you so there is no definite definition of success for everyone around the world.

But success could be simply defined as the satisfaction one gets after accomplishing the goals. Let us take the example of the students sitting here and we all know that every student in school aspires and aims to be successful in school. Being successful in academics and getting good grades is the dream of every student. They need to do it to achieve their goals and be successful in life.

Students let me tell you the road to success is not easy and if was easy everyone would have been successful. Success is also not achieved in a day or a night. It is a long steady process that requires hard work, commitment, and sacrifice.

Students let me tell you that the amount of success a person achieves is directly related to the number of things that person has sacrificed in life. I want you all to understand this concept of sacrifice because it is required for you to become successful. I truly believe that if you are not ready to sacrifice the things that are dearest to your heart, you won’t achieve anything in life. I don’t mean that sacrificing things such as not even food or playing, those activities are required for the proper functioning of your brain. Not playing video games or watching television is the sacrifice you have to make if you want to get good grades in school. You can do fun activities when you are free and not when your examinations are approaching. It is very important to invest your time in studying when needed.

The next important thing that one should have to be successful in life is a firm blueprint to accomplish your goals. Students should plan accordingly to reach their goals and accomplish wonders. Blueprint is required and the first step in making a blueprint is to invest your time in your goals which could be done by preparing a good timetable. Students as we all know lost money could be earned back in the future but the time lost cannot be gained back. Time is the most valuable asset of anyone’s life and it is very important to figure out how to invest it and on whom we should invest it. Investing your time to develop a new skill and cultivate it in the future is what most successful people do. You might have heard about Elon Musk. He is the world’s richest person and people think he is the richest because he has money, the answer is no, he is the richest because of the goals he has accomplished throughout his life.20 years back he had invested his time in learning new skills and inventing new things and the time he invested back then has given him the status of the world richest man today. All I want to say to all the students present here is they do dream about a good life, do dream about a goal or a job that will settle your but it is also required that you have to work on that, you have to water it every day so that it will yield you the success you want in the future.

Students to be successful you have to go through failure. Facing failure fearlessly is required if you want to achieve your goals. Many people don’t take risks because they fear failure and those are the people who never become successful in life. Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, Mukesh Ambani, and many more are known for taking risks in life. What would have happened if Mukesh Ambani did not take the risk of introducing the Jio 4G network? We could still be using other networks and mostly our online learning could have been affected. Students, what I am trying to say is that taking a risk in life is very important and you may encounter failures. Facing failures is important as something that is the only thing that guides us through our journey to success. Do not be afraid of failure and always remember that when you fail forward and learn from it.

To conclude this speech I want to say that Success plays an important role in a person’s life. It is very important to be successful if you want to be recognized by the world but keep in mind that success is not the final stage of your life, it won’t solve all of your problems. We often hear that many people take success too seriously and have mental health issues like anxiety and depression. Having a goal in your mind and working towards it is very important but it does not mean being too serious about it. Work on the process of becoming successful rather than running after it. Spend time with your family and friends while you are working on your goals and please enjoy life I am successful with time. Success will come to you if you have invested your time in it.

Thank you.

Short Speech on Success in English

Good morning to everyone present here today. I feel honored to be allowed to give a small speech about success in school. I hope this speech helps you in understanding what success means.

Success does not have a definite definition as it varies from one person to another. Success could be simply defined as the satisfaction a person gets by achieving his or her goal. Success does not come without any problems as the road to success is filled with many hurdles. To achieve success one needs to be determined in life and have a plan to accomplish that goal.

Success is directly proportional to the amount of hard work and the time you have invested in achieving that goal. hard work here to work physically which makes you tired but it just means that you have to prioritize important things that will make you successful and work towards it. Failure is the most important step in achieving your goals. Many of us fear as we think that it will not make us successful but sometimes failing is important as it helps in determining your path. Imagine what would have happened if Thomas Edison hesitated while he worked on discovering light? the world would have still been dark. Don’t fear failure, face it as it will help in achieving success.

To conclude this speech I want to say that the three most important things required for a person to be successful are Hard Work, failure, and having a timetable. Most successful people are very good at managing their time and it is required that if you want to succeed in life you also have to learn the skill of time management. Lastly do not take success too seriously as it will affect your health and the relationships around you. Work on the process of achieving your goal and I will be successful in life. Thank you.

FAQs on Speech on Success

1. What's the definition of success in life?

It is possible for your definition of what success means to change; however, most people describe it as being content, upbeat, sheltered, well-constructed, and cherished. You need to be able to achieve your objectives whatever they may be in daily life. Success in life means that a person can attain what he/she has desired throughout their entire life. Your ambitions, dreams, and aspirations about how you want your life will determine how successful you are. You already have a successful life if you are proud of everything you have accomplished.

2. What is Success according to you?

For those of you who haven't decided what success means to them, there is an exercise you can try: Take 15 minutes and write words, symbols, or pictures that describe what success is for you. If you are struggling with ideas of success, you could focus on your immediate aims or near-term goals. If you start documenting a successful life for yourself, you might be inspired to examine the whole of your life. Here are some questions you might ask yourself:

How does happiness make me feel?

Is there any area in my life where I have already succeeded?

How can I apply that experience?

Did I learn anything from my failures?

What is my role model?

Which is the most important thing to me?

And how will I remember myself?

Our daily engagements and energizing activities are much better measures of success.

Natural abilities are often what motivate and engage us in the very activities that energise us.

Manage a team or grow a business if you have strong influencing or relationship skills. Maybe you thrive on solving complex problems, developing strategies, and developing visions. You're inspired by new ideas and produce your best work when you have time to think and reflect. However, deadlines and multiple projects also feel like an adrenaline rush to you.

3. Is success the only thing that matters?

It is not success that makes us happy. Often, society defines happiness as how much success you can achieve. We are extremely focused on creating success as a society. The concept that happiness results from success have become intoxicating:

I would be delighted to get promoted.

Success will make me happy.

My success will be measured by the factor of 12 increase in the share price of my company

and therefore, I will be pleased

All of these assumptions are false. Achieving success does not guarantee happiness. Success is a relative concept in everything that we do: the more successful we become, the higher the bar for defining success, making achievement more difficult.

The good news is that this is great for business, but if it's what determines your happiness, you'll end up unhappy. Big numbers always make people unhappy.

Although the difficulty level increases as the bar are next raised, the level of happiness remains unchanged.

4. How does success hurt us?

It is common knowledge that one cannot achieve something without sacrificing something. To achieve success, one has to sacrifice a variety of things. Even though these sacrifices may seem futile, they will not be in vain if you achieve your goal. Yes, many people become successful in their field but fail to achieve success in their mental, social, and physical lives. The tension of not being successful elsewhere is what draws them apart.

Oftentimes, people become obsessed with success to the point that the people around them become uncomfortable around them. This is sometimes considered madness. In addition to this, people get depressed if they do not succeed like other people. Therefore, success comes with a lot of disadvantages.

 5. Does hard work correlate with Success?

Even though it may sound unfit to some people, hard work is essential to success. Success cannot be achieved without hard work. Laborious and sweaty work does not constitute hard work. A healthy body, a strong mind, willpower, and a positive mindset are all elements of hard work. You need the energy to achieve all of those things. Take care of yourself physically and emotionally. You should also do more than just work on your program, push yourself to the limit, take responsibility for other things, and improve your skills. Apart from that, you should associate with positive people, develop positive habits, and continue exercising for both the body and your mind.

Essentially, we can say that success is like a seed that needs a balanced proportion of all its components. Success can never be achieved in a day; one must undergo and deal with different conditions in life to achieve success. When you achieve your goal, you are feeling a sense of fulfilment, which is called success.

Speech on Never Give Up

Life often throws challenges at you. It’s easy to feel like giving up when things get tough. But remember, success is the reward for those who refuse to quit.

You might stumble and fall, but it’s important to pick yourself up and keep going. Persistence is the key to achieving your dreams.

1-minute Speech on Never Give Up

Ladies and Gentlemen, I stand before you today to speak on a very important topic, ‘Never Give Up’. This simple phrase carries a profound message for us all. It encourages us to stay strong in face of difficulties and keep striving for our goals.

In life, we all face challenges and obstacles. There will be moments when we fall, when we feel like giving up. But remember, it is not about how hard we fall, but about how we pick ourselves up and move forward. Giving up is the easiest thing to do, but it is persistence that brings success.

The path to success is never smooth. It is full of ups and downs, twists and turns. But what differentiates a successful person from others is their never-give-up attitude. They refuse to quit, no matter how difficult the journey might be. They keep going, they persevere and that’s what leads them to their desired goals.

In the end, let me remind you of a famous quote by Winston Churchill, “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts.” So, whatever your dream, whatever your goal, keep striving for it. Do not let setbacks discourage you. Instead, use them as stepping stones to climb higher. Keep believing in yourself and never ever give up.

Remember, winners are not those who never fail, but those who never quit. So, equip yourselves with determination, perseverance, and a never-give-up attitude. Your victory is just around the corner. Thank you.

2-minute Speech on Never Give Up

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I stand here today to speak on a topic that resonates with each one of us, regardless of our age, occupation, or social status. The topic is ‘Never Give Up’. As simple as these three words may sound, they hold an ocean of wisdom within them.

Life, as we all know, is not a bed of roses. It is an unpredictable journey full of twists and turns. Each one of us here has faced challenges, experienced failures, and encountered obstacles. In such situations, it’s natural to feel disheartened and demotivated. However, remember that it’s not the end. Each failure is a stepping stone towards success. It’s an opportunity to learn, grow, and improve.

Consider the story of Thomas Edison. The man who illuminated the world with his invention of the electric light bulb encountered over a thousand failed experiments before he finally succeeded. When asked about his failures, he famously said, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work”. This, my friends, is the spirit of never giving up.

Giving up is often the easiest option. It requires neither courage nor effort to throw in the towel. But let me tell you, the easiest path is not always the right path. The path to success, on the other hand, is often strewn with hardships. It requires persistence, determination, and an unwavering belief in oneself.

The journey of every successful person, from Abraham Lincoln to J.K. Rowling, from Michael Jordan to Steven Spielberg, is a testament to the power of persistence and the magic of never giving up. They all faced rejections, failures, and disappointments, but they did not let these adversities deter them from their path. They embraced their failures, learned from them, and kept moving forward.

Remember, success is not just about making it big or achieving fame. It’s also about growth, improvement, and learning. It’s about becoming a better version of ourselves, about realizing our potential and making the most of it.

To sum up, we all have dreams, and to convert these dreams into reality, we need to adopt the mantra of ‘Never Give Up’. Embrace failures, learn from them but never let them make you lose sight of your goals. Persistence is the key. The road might be long, the journey might be tough, but remember, at the end of a storm comes a rainbow.

So, the next time you find yourself on the verge of giving up, remind yourself of the power of persistence. Remember that the darkest hour is often just before the dawn. Keep pushing, keep striving, and keep believing in yourself. And remember, as long as you keep trying, you have not failed.

Never Give Up because you are stronger than you think, more capable than you believe, and you have within you the strength to overcome any obstacle that comes your way. Believe in yourself, hold your head high, and march towards your goal, for success awaits those who dare to persevere.

Ladies and gentlemen, life is too short to live with regrets. So dream big, aim high, and never, ever give up.

Guide to a Heartwarming Celebration of Life Speech

celebration of life speech

A celebration of life event is a way for friends and family to come together to remember and honor the person who has passed away.

If you are the person or are chosen to deliver a celebration of life speech, remember that it’s an honor! You get to share the memories and stories of the person who passed away.

In this article, we will guide you through how to prepare and deliver a heartwarming and meaningful celebration of life speech.

What is a Celebration of Life Speech?

A celebration of life speech is a speech given at a celebration of life event. It’s an opportunity for the speaker to share memories and stories about the person who has passed away and to reflect on the impact that the person had on their life and on the lives of others.

The purpose of a celebration of life speech is to celebrate the life of the deceased and to share fond memories and stories about them.

The Difference Between Celebration of Life Speech and Eulogy

A celebration of life speech, also known as a tribute speech or a memorial speech, is a type of speech given at a memorial service or celebration of life event to honor and remember a loved one who has passed away. The purpose of a celebration of life speech is to celebrate the life of the deceased and to share fond memories and stories about them.

A eulogy is also a speech given at a funeral or memorial service to honor and remember a loved one who has passed away.

The main difference between a eulogy and a celebration of life speech is that a eulogy typically focuses on the emotional aspects of grief and loss, while a celebration of life speech focuses on celebrating and remembering the positive aspects of the person’s life.

It is different from a eulogy which is a speech given at a funeral service, which is more formal and solemn in tone.

Celebration of life speech is more personal and casual, it tends to be more emotional and more focused on the positive memories of the person.

A eulogy is usually given by a close family member, friend, or religious figure. A celebration of life speech can be given by anyone who has a connection to the deceased person and wants to share memories and stories.

What Needs to be Included in a Celebration of Life Speech?

Here are several key elements that need to be included in a celebration of life speech:

  • A brief overview of the person’s life and accomplishments
  • Personal anecdotes and memories of the person
  • A reflection on the person’s impact on the lives of others
  • A recognition of the person’s passions and interests
  • An expression of gratitude for the time shared with the person
  • A message of comfort and support for those who are grieving
  • An encouragement to continue the person’s legacy
  • A call to action to celebrate the person’s life in a meaningful way.

Some people like to have their speech accompanied by music for a celebration of life service . You can do that too!

Remember that the celebration of life speech is more personal and casual. Prepare your speech to match with the audience as well.

Usually, the guests that are invited to a celebration of life event is also a close friend of the deceased as well. This will allow you to share more personal memories because they can relate to and understand the context of it easier.

How Long Should a Celebration of Life Speech be?

You should aim to deliver a 5-7 minute speech. Depending on the arrangement, some celebration of life speeches are also assigned to several different people.

Talk about each of your speech’s duration and determine the best length of the speeches combined in total. For a shared celebration of life speech, a total of 15 – 20 minutes would be ideal.

Don’t forget to check with the other speakers and ensure that there are no overlapping stories.

Celebration of Life Speech Examples

Celebration of life speech for dad.

“Hello good morning,

We are gathered here today to celebrate the life of a truly remarkable man, my father. He was a loving husband, a devoted father, and a respected member of our community. He was a man who lived his life with integrity, kindness, and a sense of humor that could light up a room.

My father was a hard worker who always put his family first. He worked tirelessly to provide for us and to make sure that we had everything we needed. He was a role model to me, and I am honored to have had him as my father.

He had a passion for many things, from gardening to traveling and from photography to reading. He was a man of many talents and interests, but his family was always at the forefront of his heart. He was a devoted husband to my mother for over 50 years, and his love for her was unwavering until the end.

[Add a personal story here] I remember when I was going traveling with my father to…. I can’t believe what I saw. He just did ……! You guys here also know that a person like my father would definitely do. He will ….. at that exact moment.

[Continue your remarks] My father was also a dedicated member of our community. He had a big heart and always had time for others, lending a helping hand whenever it was needed. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.

In closing, let’s take a moment to remember the many good times we had with my father. Let’s honor his memory by cherishing the memories we shared and by continuing to live our lives with the same kindness, integrity, and sense of humor that he possessed.

Thank you.”

Celebration of Life Speech for Mom

“Hey everyone,

I wanted to take a moment to talk about my mom, because she was truly one of a kind. To me, she was the best mom anyone could ask for – always there for me, always understanding and always loving. But she was also so much more than just a mom, she was a friend, a confidant and a role model.

One of the things I’m gonna miss the most about her is her cooking, man, she could make anything and it would always be delicious. I remember coming home from school and being greeted by the smell of her homemade cookies, or her famous lasagna. She truly had a gift in the kitchen and it was a reflection of her love and care for us.

But my mom wasn’t just a great cook, she was also one of the strongest and most resilient people I’ve ever known. She faced so many challenges in her life, but she never let them get her down. She always found a way to keep going, to keep fighting and to keep smiling.

She was also incredibly beautiful, inside and out. With her radiant smile and her kind heart, she could light up a room just by walking in. She was a true lady and she had a grace and poise that was simply breathtaking.

I know that I am not alone in feeling this loss, my mother touched so many lives, and I know that she will be greatly missed by all of you as well. But let’s not dwell on the sadness of her passing, let’s remember the good times, let’s remember her laughter, her warmth, and her love.

Celebration of Life Speech for Partner

“Dear friends and family,

Today, we gather here to celebrate the life of my soulmate, my Brittany. The woman who stole my heart and changed my life forever. Her laughter, her smile and her goofy sense of humor will always be etched in my heart forever.

From the moment I met her, I knew she was the one for me. Her sparkling eyes, her contagious laughter and her kind heart captured me completely. She was my rock, my confidant, my everything.

Brittany and I shared a bond that was unbreakable, a love that was unshakable. We laughed, we cried, we loved and we dreamed together. She was my partner in every sense of the word, and I am so grateful to have had her by my side.

Her goofy personality was one of the things I fell in love with, she was always up for a good laugh and a silly joke. She had a way of making everyday feel like an adventure, and her laugh was music to my ears.

As I stand here today, my heart is heavy with grief, but it is also filled with love. Love for the beautiful woman who made my life complete. I know that Brittany’s spirit will live on in the hearts of all those she touched, and I will always cherish the memories we shared together.

Brittany, my love for you is eternal, and you will always hold a special place in my heart.

Celebration of Life Speech for Best Friend

Hey everyone,

Today, we gather here to celebrate the life of my best friend, a truly one-of-a-kind guy. He was more than just a friend, he was a brother to me. We shared countless memories, laughs and even tears together. But what I will always remember him for is our love for basketball, he was my basketball buddy.

I remember when we first met, we bonded over our love for the game. We would spend hours playing pickup games, talking trash and pushing each other to be better. He was a fierce competitor on the court, but off the court, he was the most loyal and supportive friend anyone could ask for.

But basketball was just one small part of who he was. He was also a great listener, always there for me when I needed to talk. He was funny, always cracking jokes and making everyone around him laugh. He was also a great person, always willing to help others and make a positive impact in the world.

I know that I am not alone in feeling this loss, my friend touched so many lives, and I know that he will be greatly missed by all of you as well. But let’s not dwell on the sadness of his passing, let’s remember the good times, let’s remember his laughter, his competitiveness and his love for the game.

I’ll always cherish the memories we shared on and off the court, he will always be my basketball buddy and my best friend.

‘I am prepared to die’: Mandela’s speech which shook apartheid

Sixty years ago during the Rivonia Trial in South Africa, Nelson Mandela delivered one of the most famous speeches of the 20th century. He expected to be sentenced to death but instead lived to see his dream ‘of a democratic and free society’ realised.

give a speech on life

“Accused number one” had been speaking from the dock for almost three hours by the time he uttered the words that would ultimately change South Africa. The racially segregated Pretoria courtroom listened in silence as Nelson Mandela’s account of his lifelong struggle against white minority rule reached its conclusion. Judge Quintus de Wet managed not to look at Mandela for the majority of his address. But before accused number one delivered his final lines, defence lawyer Joel Joffe remembered, “Mandela paused for a long time and looked squarely at the judge” before saying:

“During my lifetime, I have dedicated my life to this struggle of the African people. I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against Black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons will live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal for which I hope to live for and to see realised. But, my Lord, if it needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.”

South africa seeks to stop auction of historic nelson mandela artefacts, a way of saying ‘we shall overcome’: playing football on robben island, history illustrated: mandela – south africa’s first black preside, king charles to host sa’s ramaphosa in first state visit of reign.

After he spoke that last sentence, novelist and activist Nadine Gordimer, who was in the courtroom on April 20, 1964, said, “The strangest and most moving sound I have ever heard from human throats came from the Black side of the court audience. It was short, sharp and terrible: something between a sigh and a groan.”

This was because there was a very good chance that Mandela and his co-accused would be sentenced to death for their opposition to the apartheid government. His lawyers had actually tried to talk him out of including the “I am prepared to die” line because they thought it might be seen as a provocation. But as Mandela later wrote in his autobiography, “I felt we were likely to hang no matter what we said, so we might as well say what we truly believed.”

Rivonia defendants

‘The trial that changed South Africa’

The Rivonia Trial – in which Mandela, Walter Sisulu, Govan Mbeki and seven other anti-apartheid activists were charged with sabotage – was the third and final time Mandela would stand accused in an apartheid court. From 1956 to 1961, he had been involved in the Treason Trial, a long-running embarrassment for the apartheid government, which would ultimately see all 156 of the accused acquitted because the state failed to prove they had committed treason.

And in 1962, he had been charged with leaving the country illegally and leading Black workers in a strike. He knew he was guilty on both counts, so he decided to put the apartheid government on trial. On the first day of the case, Mandela, known for his natty Western dress, arrived in traditional Xhosa attire to the shock of all present. He led his own defence and did not call any witnesses. Instead, he gave what has been remembered as the “Black man in a white court” speech, during which he asserted that “posterity will pronounce that I was innocent and that the criminals that should have been brought before this court are the members of the Verwoerd government,” a reference to Prime Minister Hendrik Verwoerd.

Nelson Mandela

The Rivonia Trial, which kicked off in October 1963, was named after the Johannesburg suburb where Liliesleaf Farm was located. From 1961 to 1963, the Liliesleaf museum website notes, the farm served “as the secret headquarters and nerve centre” of the African National Congress (ANC), the South African Communist Party (SACP) and Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK, the military wing of the ANC). On July 11, 1963, acting on a tip-off, the police raided Liliesleaf, seizing many incriminating documents and arresting the core leadership of the underground liberation movement. Mandela, who was serving a five-year sentence on Robben Island from his conviction in the 1962 trial, was flown to Pretoria to take his place as accused number one.

Mandela

Instead of charging the men with high treason, State Prosecutor Percy Yutar opted for the easier-to-prove crime of sabotage – the definition of which was so broad that it included misdemeanours such as trespassing – and which had recently been made a capital offence by the government. Thanks to the evidence seized from Liliesleaf, which included several documents handwritten by Mandela and the testimony of Bruno Mtolo (referred to as Mr X throughout the trial), a regional commander of MK who had turned state witness, Yutar was virtually assured of convictions for the main accused.

In his autobiography, Mandela explains their defence strategy: “Right from the start we had made it clear that we intended to use the trial not as a test of the law but as a platform for our beliefs. We would not deny, for example, that we had been responsible for acts of sabotage. We would not deny that a group of us had turned away from non-violence. We were not concerned with getting off or lessening our punishment, but with making the trial strengthen the cause for which we were struggling – at whatever cost to ourselves. We would not defend ourselves in a legal sense so much as in a moral sense.”

The accused and their lawyers decided that Mandela would open the defence case not as a witness – who would be subject to cross-examination – but with a statement from the dock. This format would allow him to speak uninterrupted, but it carried less legal weight.

Liliesleaf Farm

Mandela writes that he spent “about a fortnight drafting [his] address, working mainly in my cell in the evenings”. He first read it to his co-accused, who approved the text with a few tweaks, before passing it to lead defence lawyer Bram Fischer. Fischer was concerned that the final paragraph might be taken the wrong way by the judge, so he got another member of the defence team, Hal Hanson, to read it. Hanson was unequivocal: “If Mandela reads this in court, they will take him straight to the back of the courthouse and string him up.”

“Nelson remained adamant” that the line should stay, wrote George Bizos, another member of the defence team. Bizos eventually persuaded Mandela to tweak his wording: “I proposed that Nelson say he hoped to live for and achieve his ideals but if needs be was prepared to die.”

On the evening of April 19, Bizos got Mandela’s permission to take a copy of his statement to Gordimer. The respected British journalist Anthony Sampson, who knew Mandela well, happened to be staying with her and he retired to Gordimer’s study with the text. “What seemed like hours” later, Bizos wrote, Sampson “eventually returned, obviously moved by what he had read”. Sampson made no major changes to the text, but he did advise moving some of the paragraphs because he felt journalists were likely to read the beginning and the end properly and skim over the rest.

Gordimer does not seem to have suggested changes to the address, but she did see several drafts. She, too, was happy with the final version.

The statement from the dock

Yutar, who had been hoodwinked by the defence team’s constant requests for court transcripts into spending weeks preparing to cross-examine Mandela, was visibly shocked when Fischer announced that Mandela would instead be making a statement from the dock. He even tried to get the judge to explain to Mandela that he was committing a legal error. But the usually stone-faced judge laughed as he dismissed the request. Mandela, himself a lawyer, was represented by some of the country’s finest legal minds. He knew exactly what he was doing.

“My Lord, I am the first accused,” Mandela said. “I admit immediately that I was one of the persons who helped to form Umkhonto we Sizwe and that I played a prominent role in its affairs until I was arrested in August 1962.” Thanks to the recent recovery of the original recordings of Mandela’s statement, we now know that he spoke for 176 minutes , not the four and a half hours regularly cited.

As Martha Evans, author of Speeches That Shaped South Africa, explained, Mandela “candidly confessed some of the crimes levelled against him before giving a cogent and detailed account of the conditions and events that had led to the establishment of MK and the adoption of the armed struggle”.

Nelson Mandela

He spoke at length of the ANC’s tradition of nonviolence and explained why he had planned sabotage: “I did not plan it in a spirit of recklessness nor because I have any love for violence. I planned it as a result of a calm and sober assessment of the political situation that had arisen after many years of tyranny, exploitation and oppression of my people by the whites.”

The final section of the address focused on inequality in South Africa and humanised Black South Africans in ways that Mandela argued the country’s white population rarely acknowledged:

“Whites tend to regard Africans as a separate breed. They do not look upon them as people with families of their own. They do not realise that we have emotions, that we fall in love like white people do, that we want to be with our wives and children like white people want to be with theirs, that we want to earn money, enough money to support our families properly.”

And: “Above all, my Lord, we want equal political rights because without them our disabilities will be permanent. I know this sounds revolutionary to the whites in this country because the majority of voters will be Africans. This makes the white man fear democracy. But this fear cannot be allowed to stand in the way of the only solution which will guarantee racial harmony and freedom for all.”

Interestingly, Gordimer noted that the speech “read much better than it was spoken. Mandela’s delivery was very disappointing indeed, hesitant, parsonical (if there is such a word), boring. Only at the end did the man come through.”

Freedom Charter

Hanging by a thread

After Mandela’s address, several of the accused subjected themselves to cross-examination. Gordimer was particularly impressed by Walter Sisulu: “Sisulu was splendid. What a paradox – he is almost uneducated while [Mandela] has a law degree! He was lucid and to the point – and never missed a point in his replies to Yutar.”

The defence team enjoyed a number of minor victories with Judge de Wet fairly regularly telling the court that Yutar had failed to prove one point or another. After final arguments were heard in mid-May, court was adjourned for three weeks for the judge to consider his verdict.

For the main accused, that verdict was always going to be guilty. Avoiding the noose became the defence team’s number one priority. In the courtroom, this entailed asking Alan Paton, a world famous novelist who was leader of the vehemently anti-apartheid Liberal Party, to give evidence in mitigation of sentence.

But the real action happened outside the court, Sampson wrote in his authorised biography of Mandela: “The accused had been buoyed up by the growing support from abroad, not only from many African countries but also, more to Mandela’s surprise, from Britain. … On May 7, 1964, the British Prime Minister, Alec Douglas-Home, offered to send a private message to Verwoerd about the trial. But Sir Hugh Stephenson [Britain’s ambassador to South Africa] recommended that ‘no more pressure should be exerted’ and, contrary to some published reports, there is no evidence the message was sent. When the South African Ambassador called on the Foreign Office that month, he was told that the government was now under less pressure to take a stronger line against South Africa, though death sentences would bring the matter to a head again.”

trial recordings

A week before the verdicts, Bizos visited British Consul-General Leslie Minford at his Pretoria home. “As I was leaving, Leslie put his arm around my shoulders and said, ‘George, there won’t be a death sentence.’ I did not ask him how he knew. For one thing, he had downed a number of whiskies. Certainly, I felt I could not rely on the information nor could I tell the team or our anxious clients.”

Upping the stakes further was the decision by Mandela, Sisulu and Mbeki to not appeal their sentence – even if it were death. As he listened to sentencing arguments, Mandela clutched a handwritten note that concluded with the words: “If I must die, let me declare for all to know that I will meet my fate as a man.”

Paton and Hanson spoke in mitigation of sentence on the morning of June 12, 1964. Bizos noted, “Judge de Wet not only took no note of what was being said but he appeared not to be listening.” He had already made his mind up, and when the formalities were over, he announced: “I have decided not to impose the supreme penalty, which in a case like this would usually be the penalty for such a crime. But consistent with my duty, that is the only leniency which I can show. The sentence in the case of all the accused will be one of life imprisonment.”

Professor Thula Simpson, the leading historian of MK, told Al Jazeera, “There is no evidence that De Wet was leaned on by the state. I don’t believe there’s any evidence for this being a political rather than a judicial judgement.”

Professor Roger Southall, author of dozens of books on Southern African politics, agreed. “At the time, there was a lot of speculation about whether there was pressure on the SA government to ensure that capital punishment was not imposed,” he told Al Jazeera. “But there is also no proof that the SA government intervened. That remains an unanswered question. We have to presume that the judge knew the international and local climate.”

Rivonia

Business as usual?

“Rivonia got a lot of global publicity,” Southall said. “But once the trial ended, it seemed like Mandela had been forgotten.” Mandela and other senior ANC figures were either locked up on Robben Island or were living in relative obscurity in exile. “Capital came pouring into South Africa at a rate that’s never been equalled since,” Southall continued. “The apartheid government seemed totally in control. The resistance was dead. It was a thoroughly grim period for the ANC.”

This only started to change in 1973, Southall said, “with the Durban strikes and the revival of the trade union movement”, which had been battered into submission. The rebirth of the Black trade union movement signalled the beginning of a new phase of opposition politics. Things ratcheted up several notches on June 16, 1976, when apartheid policemen opened fire on a peaceful protest of schoolchildren in the Black township of Soweto, killing 15 people. In the eight months that followed, violence spread across South Africa, killing about 700 people.

The resuscitation of Black opposition to apartheid under a new band of leaders coincided with the decline of the economy. After the Soweto uprising, foreign investors fled South Africa in their droves, laying bare the fundamental flaws of the apartheid government’s dependence on cheap labour and mining and its point-blank refusal to meaningfully educate people of colour. The apartheid government spent about 12 times more per child on white schoolchildren than it did on Black ones.

Nelson Mandela prison

By the 1980s, even the apartheid government could see something had to change, and in 1983, Prime Minister PW Botha announced plans to include multiracial and Indian South Africans, but not Black South Africans, in a new “tricameral” parliament. His plan backfired spectacularly, uniting the opposition like never before under the newly formed United Democratic Front (UDF). One of the UDF’s key demands was the unconditional release of all political prisoners, especially Mandela. Soon after its launch in August 1983, the UDF numbered almost 1,000 different organisations from all segments of South African society. Botha didn’t know what had hit him.

When, in 1984, Oliver Tambo, the ANC’s exiled leader, asked his supporters to “make South Africa ungovernable”, the townships rose up. Things got so bad in 1985 that Botha declared a state of emergency – but this was also the year in which tentative secret talks with Mandela began.

An icon re-emerges

“In the late 1970s, you started getting occasional demands that Mandela be released,” Southall said. By the mid-1980s, “Free Nelson Mandela” became a constant and global refrain with the “I am prepared to die” statement being quoted at rallies and emblazoned on T-shirts. “On one level, the ANC ‘invented’ this version of Mandela,” Southall said. “Until 1976, the apartheid government had done a very good job of erasing him from public memory.”

What might have happened if Mandela had been sentenced to death at Rivonia? One does not need to look far for a possible answer. The other poster boy of the global anti-apartheid movement in the 1980s was Steve Biko (subject of the Peter Gabriel hit song), the young leader of the Black Consciousness movement, who had been tortured to death by apartheid police in 1977. “You can also have myths develop when you execute people,” Simpson said. “If they had executed Mandela, he would have been a different icon in a different struggle.”

Nelson Mandela release

A dream realised

On February 11, 1990, Mandela was released from prison. From the balcony of Cape Town City Hall, he addressed his supporters for the first time since Rivonia. He opened his speech by saying: “I stand here before you not as a prophet but as a humble servant of you, the people. Your tireless and heroic sacrifices have made it possible for me to be here today. I, therefore, place the remaining years of my life in your hands.”

He ended by quoting the final lines of his 1964 statement from the dock, explaining that “they are true today as they were then.” Over the course of the next decade, as Mandela first navigated the treacherous path to democracy and then served as the country’s first democratically elected president, he lived out his vision of a “democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities”.

When the ANC’s Chris Hani was assassinated by an apartheid supporter in 1993, Mandela assumed the moral leadership of the country by urging his incensed supporters not to derail the peace process. After becoming president, he engaged in numerous public shows of reconciliation: He went for tea with the widow of slain apartheid Prime Minister Verwoerd, and he donned the Springbok rugby jersey (for many, a symbol of white supremacy) when he presented the almost entirely white South African team with the World Cup trophy in 1995.

Nelson Mandela

When Mandela died in 2013, US President Barack Obama spoke at his memorial, famously – and predictably – quoting the final paragraph of the statement from the dock at Rivonia. By that stage, there were already some in South Africa who felt that Mandela was a “sellout” because he had been too forgiving of whites during the transition.

Now, more than a decade later as inequality continues to plague the country and South Africa stands on the cusp of its most competitive general election in 30 years of democracy, it is common to hear young Black South Africans accuse Mandela of selling out . Southall does not take such claims too seriously: “People who say he’s a sellout are either too young or too forgetful to appreciate how close we came to civil war. Mandela played a huge role in pulling off the peaceful transition.”

“Now, after 30 years of democracy, there is still a tension between white domination and Black domination,” Simpson said. “South Africa is not what Mandela dreamed of. He might be turning in his grave, but we can’t forget that many of the policies that have gone wrong were introduced by him. He might have turned things around, but he might have not.”

“You can’t blame Mandela for where we are now,” Southall said. “There are individual things he got wrong. But he also got a lot of things right.”

Mandela’s is one of the 12 remarkable lives covered in Nick Dall’s recent book, Legends: People Who Changed South Africa for the Better, co-written with Matthew Blackman.

Poetry from Daily Life: A poem influenced MLK's 'Dream' speech, can teach kids resilience

This week’s guest on Poetry in Daily Life is Nile Stanley, PhD, who lives in Jacksonville, Florida. A teacher educator, artist-in-residence, and researcher, for thirty-six years he has been on a mission to show how poetry can take on a bigger role within the teaching of reading and the development of resilience. Nile and I have collaborated on interviews, articles, books, and poetry shows at conferences. A couple of unique facts about Nile: he was a jazz radio DJ at the University of Delaware and a newspaper columnist for the Portales Tribune in New Mexico. ~ David L. Harrison

Poetry helps build resilience into your dream

“I have a dream.” You have heard the line. But what you may not know is that the poetry of Langston Hughes influenced Martin Luther King Jr.’s best-known speech, which he delivered during the 1963 March on Washington. Poetry influences children, too, not only to learn to read but it can also make them feel more resilient because it often contains themes of strength, perseverance, and the ability to overcome challenges. I know this from personal experience as well as from extensive research.

Similarly, storytelling is a powerful approach known as bibliotherapy that can help develop resilience. Reading the stories of others who have overcome adversity can provide the knowledge we can use to bounce back from tough times and learn to thrive, yet to dream once again. One such inspirational story is one of my former Black fourth-grade students who learned the skill of performing poetry with the help of caring teachers who believed in him.

Moses Lee Jones grew up in poverty without a mother and father. He was labeled special education and frequently was angry and acting out in class. Fortunately, his school was chosen to become a partner with the University of North Florida and the children received one-on one tutoring by education majors and participated in Poetry Stars, a literacy-through-the-arts program funded by the Cummer Family Foundation.

On the day of his “screen test” to become a Poetry Star, Moses was the only boy who auditioned. To make the cut he would be required to perform two poems from memory. He wore a white shirt and black tie for his audition because his grandmother, who it turns out he took care of, told him to “show” his best. As I said, “action, camera,” in tears, Moses told me his father, who he rarely saw, was just arrested. The following poem I authored captures the emotional and inspirational outcome of Mose’s audition.

MOSES LEE JONES

by Nile Stanley

Moses Lee Jones

came to poetry club today

wearing a black tie and white shirt.

I say.” Moses, what is it? A special occasion?”

las’ night they took my daddy away

and I don’t want it to git in the way

of the poetry.”

With a smile a mile wide

and teeth gleaming

Moses recites from “Dreams” by Langston Hughes.

Hold fast to dreams

For when dreams die

Life is a broken-winged bird

That cannot fly.

For when dreams go

Life is a barren field

Frozen with snow.

Is holdin’ fast.

Biden on abortion rights: President expects to give speech Tuesday on new Florida 6-week ban

President Joe Biden is scheduled to make a rare campaign appearance Tuesday in Florida, where he is expected to give a speech in Tampa about the new law that will prohibit most abortions in the state after six weeks of pregnancy, starting on May 1.

The implementation of the new ban is expected to have a ripple effect across the Southeast, as women from nearby states have traveled to Florida to access legal abortion over the past two years.  That led to more than 7,000 abortions performed by doctors in Florida, according to a report from the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration .

“Having the president of the United States speaking out loud and with confidence about abortion access is a great thing,” says Amy Weintraub, the reproductive rights program director with Progress Florida.

Floridians will have the ability to reverse the six-week abortion ban if they approve Amendment 4 in November, which would allow abortions up to the time of viability. That measure needs 60% support from voters, which is why organizers have emphasized that support for abortion rights is a nonpartisan issue.

“It’s not related,” says Lauren Brenzel, the campaign director for Floridians Protecting Freedom, the organization working to get the constitutional amendment passed, when asked about Biden coming to Florida to speak about reproductive rights. “He’s running a political campaign, and we’re running a ballot initiative campaign.”

But Florida Democrats have been targeting presumptive Republican presidential nominee — former President Donald Trump — and Republican U.S. Senator Rick Scott for weeks on their record on abortion rights and show no signs of slowing down.

Whether it will be a winning issue on the November ballot isn’t clear. A survey from Florida Atlantic University Political Communication and Public Opinion Research Lab and Mainstreet Research, released last week, shows that abortion ranks fourth among the most important issues to Florida voters, behind immigration, the economy and the cost-of-living.

Also on the Amendment 4 abortion rights measure, 49% supported the measure, 19% opposed, and 32% said they didn’t know.

Retired University of South Florida political science professor Susan MacManus isn’t certain if abortion rights will help out Democrats on the ballot in the fall. She says one likely demographic that could be motivated by abortion rights is younger voters, who don’t appear to be all that excited to vote for the 81-year-old Biden in November. Trump is 77.

“It’s got to be the amendment itself, and I find it very interesting that both sides are using the ‘freedom angle’ – freedom to this and freedom for that,” she says.

Brenzel says those numbers show that abortion rights in Florida is not a partisan issue.

“We have 30% of people, they’ve heard the political messaging from both sides and that’s not what’s going to motivate them,” she says.  “What’s going to motivate them is hearing directly from Floridians who have been impacted by these horrible bans who have been passed by politicians. We need to get these politicians – whatever party they’re from – out of these private medical decisions so that they can be between a patient and their doctor, and that’s the story that we’re going to tell Floridians in the upcoming seven months.”

Weintraub says support for Amendment 4 will rise once the impacts of the six-week ban go into effect.

“The near total abortion ban which we are going to be facing on May 1 is going to bring about a public health crisis for Florida and for the whole south,” she says. “And it is going to deny care that is part of every modern health care system and it is a travesty that our extremists politicians have brought this on.”

Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana have all passed total abortion bans, while Georgia has had a six-week law in effect since 2022, according to the Guttmacher Institute .

This will be Biden’s first campaign related event in Florida in more than a year, when he  spoke at the University of Tampa in February of 2023. He did appear in South Florida to raise money in January and visited the state last September to survey the damage inflicted in the Big Bend area after Hurricane Idalia hit. Vice President Kamala Harris has made several appearance in the state over the past year.

Huge Row After PM Says "Congress To Distribute Assets Among Infiltrators"

Lok sabha elections 2024: "manmohan singh's government had said muslims have the first right on the country's assets," prime minister narendra modi said at an election rally in rajasthan.

PM Narendra Modi's speech in Rajasthan has raised a huge row

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's election speech in Rajasthan's Banswara has raised a controversy over his references to Muslims, with leaders of the Opposition bloc INDIA calling the speech an attempt to divert attention from "real issues".

"This 'urban Naxal' mindset, mothers and sisters, they will not even leave your ' mangalsutra '. They can go to that level... The Congress manifesto says they will calculate the gold with mothers and sisters, get information about it, and then distribute that property. They will distribute it to whom - Manmohan Singh's government had said Muslims have the first right on the country's assets," PM Modi said at the rally on Sunday.

"Earlier, when their (Congress) government was in power, they had said that Muslims have the first right on the country's assets. This means to whom will this property be distributed? It will be distributed among those who have more children. It will be distributed to the infiltrators. Should your hard-earned money go to the infiltrators? Do you approve of this?" he said.

"Is it acceptable to you? Do governments have the right to confiscate your property which you have earned through hard work? The gold with our mothers and sisters is not for showing off; it is related to their self-respect. The value of their mangalsutra is not in gold or its price, but is related to her dreams in life. And you are talking about snatching it?" PM Modi said.

Fortifying PM Modi's claim, the BJP posted a 22-second video of Dr Singh's speech from December 2006. "The Congress doesn't trust their own Prime Minister?" the BJP said.

"We will have to devise innovative plans to ensure that minorities, particularly the Muslim minority, are empowered to share equitably in the fruits of development. They must have the first claim on resources." - Dr Manmohan Singh, 9th Dec, 2006 The Congress doesn't trust their... https://t.co/MWAf8uP23N pic.twitter.com/EDAKfasXT8 — BJP (@BJP4India) April 21, 2024

PM Modi in the speech was alluding to a comment by former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh in December 2006 at a meeting of the National Development Council on fiscal priorities of the government. Then too, a huge controversy had broken out, after which the office of the then Prime Minister had issued a clarification on what it called a "deliberate and mischievous misinterpretation".

According to the then Prime Minister's Office (PMO), Dr Singh had said, "I believe our collective priorities are clear: agriculture, irrigation and water resources, health, education, critical investment in rural infrastructure, and the essential public investment needs of general infrastructure, along with programmes for the upliftment of SC/STs, Other Backward Classes, minorities, and women and children.

"The component plans for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes will need to be revitalised. We will have to devise innovative plans to ensure that minorities, particularly the Muslim minority, are empowered to share equitably in the fruits of development. They must have the first claim on resources. The Centre has a myriad other responsibilities whose demands will have to be fitted within the overall resource availability."

The PMO had said it would be seen from the above that the Prime Minister's reference to "first claim on resources" refers to all the "priority" areas listed above, including programmes for the upliftment of SCs, STs, OBCs, women and children and minorities.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, reacting to PM Modi's attack on Dr Singh, in a post on the microblogging website X said the Prime Minister now wants to divert the attention of the public from issues.

"After the disappointment in the first phase of voting, the level of Narendra Modi's lies has fallen so much that out of fear, he now wants to divert the attention of the public from the issues. Trends have started coming regarding the immense support that Congress's 'Revolutionary Manifesto' is receiving," Mr Gandhi said in the post.

— Rahul Gandhi (@RahulGandhi) April 21, 2024

"The country will now vote on its issues, vote for employment, family, and future. India will not go astray," Mr Gandhi said.

Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera in a video statement on X said PM Modi has been telling "lies after lies" just to win elections.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, who is also a part of the Opposition bloc INDIA, criticised PM Modi over the speech. "Not only the country but the whole world also knows Prime Minister Narendra Modi lies, the way how he spread lies about the Congress's 'Nyay Patra' and former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is an example of dirty politics."

Promoted Listen to the latest songs, only on JioSaavn.com

Slamming the Prime Minister for his remarks, AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi posted on X, "Modi today called Muslims infiltrators and people with many children. Since 2002 till this day, the only Modi guarantee has been to abuse Muslims and get votes. If one is talking about the country's wealth, one should know that under Modi's rule the first right to India's wealth has been of his wealthy friends. 1% of Indians own 40% of the country's wealth. Common Hindus are made to fear Muslims while their wealth is being used to enrich others."
