Evaru Movie Review: A thriller that keeps you guessing
Rating: ( 3 / 5).
Everything beyond what is shown in the trailer is a spoiler for this film. So, brace yourself for a no-context review.
Sameera (Regina Cassandra) is found in a hotel room in Coonoor with a gun in hand alongside a dead body of police officer Ashok (Naveen Chandra). Hassled and in shock, she is paraded to the police station where she pleads innocence on the account of self defence, as Ashok raped her. Enter Vikram Vasudev (Adivi Sesh) a cop who meets with Sameera to find out everything there is to find out, to help her case.
For someone who watched the film, The Invisible Guest , Evaru does have striking similarities. Although the characters, their backgrounds and the nativity has been moved around, the premise is pretty intact. However, as the team insists that it isn’t the same film, Evaru feels like a game of spot the difference - looks almost the same but not quite. In their defence, the movie would have excited and thrilled me a lot more if I had not foreseen the twists - which were many. Evaru keeps you guessing to a point of resignation up until the very end. Even when you are convinced that this is the last of the lot, there is always one more little twist that changes everything.
Cast: Adivi Sesh, Regina Cassandra, Naveen Chandra
Director: Venkat Ramji
The first half of Evaru involves quite some banter. Despite flash cuts to Sameera’s narrative, one would have to follow the chatter closely to make any sense of what is happening. As the film’s concept goes, there are many narratives to keep track of and it will be worth the attention. You will have no idea who the bad guy is and that secret is guarded throroughly.
Regina who is pretty much the central character of the film has so much to do, so many masks to wear and so many emotions to pull off which she nails. Sesh is in his comfort-zone as he steers a thriller. The flippant sarcastic notes of the token corrupt police officer however, somehow felt out of place. Nihal Kodhaty as the troubled cancer patient turns some heads, he is a kid to watch out for. Props must be given to cinematographer Vamsi Patchipulusu for holding the audience’s intrigue. Uncomfortably tight close ups really try to bring the emotion out especially as Sameera gets hounded for evidence after her rape. Meanwhile, Music Director Sricharan Pakala who seems to be Sesh’s go-to guy for thrillers, delivered. Although I could not shake off the feeling that there was some Kshanam hangover left in his background music. Venkat Ramji, the debut director now has quite a film under his belt.
If you are in for a twisty thriller, Evaru is your pick this weekend. Load up on the popcorn and may be carry a notebook, because you will want to scrutinise every detail as you go.

Evaru is gripping to the core and has some decent technical values, but the film does lets itself down at times with gaps in the narration. An additional subplot makes it more confusing and doesn't necessarily work, but it's an earnest attempt from Venkat Ramji for his debut film. If you've seen the Invisible Guest or the Hindi film Badla, you'd come out feeling slightly underwhelmed. But if you watch Evaru with an open mind, it'll end up surprising you. (more)

Adivi Sesh and Regina Cassandra deliver a slick thriller
Even though Evaru is a remake of the Spanish film The Invisible Guest, it deviates a little from the original. Director Venkat Ramji has done a splendid job in packing a punch with a brilliant screenplay. (more)

A gripping thriller!
Evaru is a great adaptation of the Spanish original. Unlike the Hindi version which was a mere copy, the Telugu version is different and full credit goes to director Ramji for his gripping narration. Adivi Sesh and Regina's stunning performances hold one's interest till the end. Evaru definitely deserves a watch and does not disappoint. (more)

a volley of questions and answers
Looking back, the film's title as it appears in the credits also holds a clue. It's a normal way of marketing a film to an audience that has already warmed up to its lead actor who has built a credible name for himself. But there's also something more. (more)

Adivi Sesh, Regina Cassandra's mystery thriller springs a pleasant surprise
Evaru is also an assured directorial debut for Venkat. Be it the way he keeps us hooked to the proceedings on screen or deliver a series of twists, Ramji's work makes you sit upright and take notice of this new talent in Telugu cinema. Sricharan Pakala's background score and Garry's slick editing help the film turn into an engaging thriller. Cinematographer Vamsi Patchipulusu captures the beauty of Coonoor and the mystery in the air quite well. The film is just under two hours and packs in plenty of surprises to keep us guessing about what would happen next. The storytelling might feel too fast and too verbose in the beginning, but the pay-off in the end is totally worth the effort. (more)

Engaging twists
Adivi Sesh impresses yet again with his latest outing Evaru. The film is a gripping murder mystery which has plenty of twits executed in a decent manner. Those who have seen the original will find the film just about okay but for those who haven't, the taut performances, gripping screenplay, and superb climax will surely impress them. Go for it. Evaru Review, What’s Behind:
Off late, Adivi Sesh has developed a tremendous record in picking right scripts and properly executing directors. Post Goodachari, definitely audience waited with excitement for Evaru because prestigious production house PVP, comeback of Regina and attention grabbing promotional stuff hiked the expectations on this proven free-make. Whether Sesh struck to his forte? Let us find it…
Evaru Story Review:
Movie begins with Sam (Regina Cassandra) shooting policeman Ashok (Naveen Chandra) to death and is arrested on murder charges only to prove that she is a rape victim. Having got a tough advocate on opposite side, Sam hires corrupt cop Vikram Vasudev (Adivi Sesh) to find the inner sources information and get rid from the case. Interestingly, Vikram finds a strange link of Sam with an old case of a missing businessman Vinay Varma (Murali Sharma) and the pain underwent by his son, a cancer patient Adarsh Varma all the way back in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. The interesting version of Regina in connection with her boyfriend Ashok (Naveen Chandra) and Vikram Vasudev’s version of Adarsh crisscross the paths to deliver a final punch. Who actually is Vikram Vasudev? What happened to Vinay Varma? Why did Sam kill Ashok?
Evaru Artists, Technicians Review:
First of all, Evaru story is not original and is inspired largely from Spanish crime thriller The Invisible Guest which was remade in Hindi as Badla. What makes Evaru a fresh watch even for those who watched the original is the alteration in screenplay. A completely new setup is created with fresh scenes besides giving enough scope for emotions and family drama suitable for Telugu audience. Screenplay is racy except for a tiny portion in both halves. First half is engaging and you feel as if you blink for a moment, we might go miss something.
Though it is debut directorial for Venkat Ramji, he dealt the the complicated subject like an expert. Showing his mark, he has come up with a different characterization and backstory for the protagonist for which he needs an appreciation. Screenplay and dialogues penned by Abburi Ravi are very intelligent, went hand in hand. Vamsi with his cinematography and block settings increased the the thrilling experience wherein Sri Charan's music extremely complimented the visuals. Editor Gary needs special mention for his sharp cuts making the half way story telling an easy understood for common audience. Production values from PVP Cinema are just picture perfect for a thriller film.
Sesh did a two shaded role superbly. His dialogue delivery added intensity to story flow. Even in many of the close up shots, Sesh looked so confident that we just blow away with his design of whole setup. Regina just lived into Sam character. Chameleon attributes and Regina’s transition is so authentic. Her greedy arrogance and hot-on-bed kissing scenes with Naveen Chandra needs an underline. Then Naveen Chandra is an apt fit who bought in loads of conviction supplementing Regina in key parts. Murali Sharma and the artist who did his son are too good. Rest of the artists struck to their parts.
Evaru Review Advantages:
Sesh, Regina
Climax
Background Score
Evaru Review Disadvantages:

Serious Setup
Repetitiveness in Second Half
Evaru Review, Rating Analysis:
Despite a fact that Evaru is a free-make of Sujoy Ghosh’s crime mystery thriller Badla yet Sesh and his team of director Venkat Ramji, writer Abburi Ravi made adequate changes in final script to suit Telugu emotions. Majority of the film is two-way dialogue drama between Sesh, Regina unfolding many twists enroute. In simple, there’s just one incident and multiple versions, one from the perspective of accused who tries to hide crucial facts and the other is from the perspective of sufferer. But, it’s the terrific chemistry between Sesh and Regina supported by performances from Naveen Chandra, Murali Sharma add lot of believability.
First half kick starts on Regina killing Naveen Chandra and then hiring corrupt cop Sesh. Till the moment, Sesh and Regina join for a conversation with drinks, it went pale and simple. Acceleration picks up suddenly when Sesh brings in the characters of missing man Murali Sharma and his son. Emotional buildup in this thread is neatly accomplished as this is crucial to deliver final punch. Interval is a moderate bang on with a solid question mark, are Vaishnavi and Sam the same?
Second half is all about Regina narrating the cleverly-innocent confession behind Murali Sharma’s missing with key facts hidden about Naveen Chandra. Entire story twists up-down when Sesh bunts on Regina’s disguise. Here’s where writing department scores in distinction to make final proceedings pack a punch with three level surprises unveil a captivating mystery.
In final, Evaru is an intelligently weaved gripping thriller with lots of twists, turns. Though the premise is similar to regular revenge stories, tight screenplay backed by solid performances from lead artists and decent number of edge of the seat story telling moments make Evaru a good watch for the weekend. This is plus one more to Sesh’s directory. Given the restricted budget spent, Evaru is a quick on recovery for makers and most probably a profitable venture for all those involved in the BO stake. Two weeks back we had a superb thriller Rakshasudu and now one more mystery to crack in intelligent Evaru. CJ goes with 3 stars.

Evaru Review: Gripping Thriller
Movie: Evaru Rating: 3/5 Banner: PVP Cinema Cast: Adivi Sesh, Regina Cassandra, Naveen Chandra, Murali Sharma, Pavithra Lokesh, Nihal and others Dialogues: Abburi Ravi Music: Sricharan Pakala Cinematography: Vamsi Patchipulusu Editor: Garry Producers: Pearl V. Potluri, Param V. Potluri, Kavin Anne Direction: Venkat Ramji Release Date: August 15, 2019
Since the release of 'Kshanam', Adivi Sesh has created a brand name on his own for thrillers. His latest thriller 'Evaru' has generated intrigue and interest with the trailer.
Let’s find out its merits and demerits.
Story: Sameera (Regina) is accused of murdering her lover, with whom she is having a relationship outside marriage as her husband is gay.
Sameera came to a Coonoor resort in Tamilnadu with her lover Ashok. Her friend bribes a police officer Vikram Vasudev (Adivi Sesh) to help Sameera to build a defense case before she appears in the court of law.
He asks her account, why did she murder her own lover and what really has happened.
Artistes’ Performances: The film completely belongs to Regina. She is terrific in the role of Sameera. She has not only done bold scenes with ease but also pulled off the act of deceit with aplomb. Evaru is her show.
Adivi Sesh has also done quite well in a role that required him to showcase two variations. He has shown maturity in acting.
Naveen Chandra in an all-important role is good. Pavitra Lokesh and Murali Sharma have done in their usual manner.
Technical Excellence: The film has rich visuals. Cinematography and production values are top class. Editing and background music are huge assets. The film has no songs. Dialogues are effective.
Highlights: Twists and turns Regina’s performance Second Half
Drawback: Initial portion Unnecessary twists
Analysis “Evaru” is the official remake of the Spanish drama “The Invisible Guest” which was recently remade in Bollywood as “Badla” starring Taapsee and Amitabh Bachchan.
In the original movie, the accused is male. In ‘Badla’ and in ‘Evaru’, gender turns female. In all the versions, the accused has come to the resort with a lover. But ‘Evaru’ differs from both these movies on many accounts.
The Telugu version is more of a localized form. A sentimental reason is given for married Regina’s love affair with Naveen Chandra. Also, the rape angle is included here to provide some desi “masala”.
“The Invisible Guest” is an awesome thriller with a shocking twist that you’d not see coming. It is also essentially, a revenge drama.
“Evaru” has also followed the same screenplay for the most part but it has missed some elements. The setup of the accused giving away all the information to the lawyer is believable in the original.
Here, the lawyer character is changed to the police officer and this simple change is not as convincing as the original.
The sequences that blindly followed the original are engaging here as well. Ineffective are those which are altered. The protagonist’s lover realizing the guilt is perfect in “The Invisible Guest”. Here, it isn’t.
Leaving comparisons aside, as a standalone film, this thriller has many merits to appreciate. It is gripping and engaging. It holds the interest till the end.
If you have not seen either the Spanish movie or its Bollywood version, this would definitely thrill you like anything and the final twist will shock you. The plot and the narration grounds on many merits. The problem arises when it is compared with the original.
If you are a fan of thrillers, “Evaru” will provide you enough rewards despite overt commercialization like the rape attempt scene and some sentimental scenes. Like the Nilgiri hairpin bends, this story has many twists and turns that hook you to the screen.
Bottom-line: Well Done!

Evaru movie review: A well-made whodunit
Evaru movie review: director venkat ramji has done a solid job adapting the convoluted tale of love, sex and betrayal. the film is well-made visually with a strong sense of aesthetics..
Evaru movie cast: Adivi Sesh, Regina Cassandra Evaru movie director: Venkat Ramji Evvaru movie rating: 3 stars
Evaru is the official Telugu adaptation of Spanish hit The Invisible Guest. Writer-director Venkat Ramji seems to have just borrowed the basic premise of the original inspiration and has made this film his own by adding a slew of new twists and turns and dollops of family sentiment.
The movie begins with Sameera Maha (Regina Cassandra) opening fire at Ashok, a police officer. Everyone believes that Sameera killed in self-defence after Ashok assaulted her sexually. The medical reports and circumstantial evidence seems to favour Sameera. “It is an open and shut case,” Sameera tells her lawyer.
But, her lawyer knows better. A high-profile case under media scrutiny will not go away so easily without making some heads roll. The lawyer enrolls the help of Vikram Vasudev (Adivi Sesh), a police officer who has no qualms in taking bribes.
Vikram meets Sameera inside a hotel suite, where he tries to prepare his client to get her story straight in the murder case before she appears before the judge the next day. On the surface, the case is fairly simple: Ashok raped Sameera. And Sameera shot Ashok in self-defence and in vengeance. Or is it?
I have not seen the Spanish film and I am not sure how faithful Venkat has remained to the original film. But, unlike The Invisible Guest, it is not the lawyer of the accused that drives the narration. It is a police officer who slowly unravels the mystery that is shrouded in lies and deceit. And the central story of the film also seems to be different from the Spanish whodunit.
Evaru unfolds in a series of flashbacks narrated by both Vikram and Sameera. Vikram’s findings and the information that he holds moves the story forward. Sameera’s account, however, keeps changing based on the circumstance. She retracts her lie and changes her version of events as every time her trust in Vikram grows a bit stronger.
There are a few loose ends, however. Not in the murder mystery but in the script. And, discussing that details in this review may spoil the movie for those who haven’t seen it yet.
Ramji has done a solid job adapting the convoluted tale of love, sex and betrayal. The film is well-made visually with a strong sense of aesthetics. The background score by composer Sricharan Pakala blends well with the main emotion that drives the plot and makes the visual more appealing.
