See how business fiber internet works

What is fiber internet?

Why choose AT&T for your business fiber internet connection?

Frequently asked questions

Fiber internet uses cutting edge, 100% fiber technology. Fiber technology uses light waves instead of electrical signals to transmit data, and fiber optic cable can send higher volumes of information over longer distances than copper cable. This means customers on a fiber network have higher speeds available to them, regardless of their distance from a network node.

Does my business need fiber internet?

AT&T Business Fiber is an excellent choice for businesses. As your business grows, you need the connectivity and speed that fiber offers in order to scale to support for increasing amounts of data traffic. With fiber you can:

How fast is business fiber internet service from AT&T?

Our business fiber internet offers the following speeds: Business Fiber 300, Business Fiber 500, Business Fiber 1000, Business Fiber 1 GIG, Business Fiber 2 GIG, and Business Fiber 5 GIG.

Business Fiber 300 is great for businesses that might need to provide internet service to customers or regularly stream video and audio files. Business Fiber 500 could be an excellent choice for businesses that need to support e-commerce activities or transfer large amounts of data to and from the internet. Business Fiber 1 GIG is ideal for businesses that want to leave room for future growth and want ultra-fast speed for activities like running cloud-based software applications, downloading and uploading large files, or streaming HD videos. Business Fiber 2 GIG offers businesses speed and dependability for connected devices and security systems. Business Fiber 5 GIG gives businesses our maximum speed to support the most cutting-edge technologies of today and tomorrow.

How can fiber internet improve my upload and download speeds?

Our business fiber internet uses symmetric internet connections, which means you get equally fast upload and download speeds. With symmetric internet speed capability, you get quick access to the cloud, video conference, virtual private network (VPN) connection, the ability to transfer large files, and more.

How can AT&T Busines Fiber help my business with outage protection?

You can add AT&T Internet Backup for extra safety, starting at $10/month,* so that you don’t lose connectivity during a power outage or an accidental cable cut. 4

What is AT&T Managed Internet Backup?

AT&T Managed Internet Backup is a business fiber internet add-on service that protects your business in the unlikely event of a power or service outage. This keeps mission-critical devices up and running, such as credit card and point-of-sale machines, and uses a backup router that includes 24 hours of battery backup. Once the AT&T Business Fiber connection is restored, your service reverts to normal operation.

Are you expanding AT&T Business Fiber to new locations?

Yes. We’re bringing fiber-fast business internet to more locations every day. Check for availability at your location first, then sign up to be notified when it’s available for your business.

What if AT&T Business Fiber is not available in my area?

If your address does not qualify for our business fiber internet, then we recommend considering AT&T Wireless Broadband for your business needs. AT&T Wireless Broadband can work as a primary or failover connection, connect remote sites, and provide a cost-effective solution for your business.

Does AT&T Business Fiber provide security features?

Yes, our business fiber internet plans include AT&T ActiveArmor℠: 24/7 proactive internet security included, which helps block malicious threats from ever reaching your devices.

Available to AT&T Business Fiber customers. Guards against known threats only. Compatible Gateway and Smart Home Manager app required; security features must be enabled.

Does AT&T Business Fiber Internet require a term commitment?

No, AT&T Business Fiber does not require a term commitment and there are no early termination fees. Get super-fast speeds for a great price, with no term commitment.

What is the difference between fiber internet and dedicated internet?

Fiber internet uses a shared connection that allows multiple users to share internet bandwidth on the network. It’s designed to provide high-speed internet, even during high usage times. Fiber uses light, not electricity, to transmit information. Because it uses dedicated fiber cables, fiber internet is highly secure and scales easily to meet your business needs.

Dedicated internet is a direct internet connection that’s only used by your business. With dedicated internet , you get a highly-reliable service and dedicated speeds – no matter how many other users are on the network. Whether you have shared or dedicated internet, you get symmetrical upload and download speeds to help you stay connected to your partners, customers, and employees.

Keep your team connected with AT&T Business Fiber

How a plan from at&t business fiber can help you succeed.

Maybe you own a café where customers expect to be able to get on the Wi-Fi, or maybe you lead a marketing agency where employees rely on the internet to do their jobs. Whatever your business, there’s a good chance that quality internet is an important factor in your success.

Service with AT&T Business Fiber provides the type of fast internet speeds that can help businesses excel, now including speeds of up to 5 GIG †  in select areas, plus AT&T ActiveArmor SM  internet security 5 , and more.

AT&T Fiber plans for businesses

AT&T Business Fiber offers six separate plans for businesses. These plans offer symmetrical download and upload speeds of up to 300 Mbps, 500 Mbps, 1000 Mbps, 2 Gbps, and 5 Gbps † . They all also come with 24/7 customer support and internet security features. 2  Depending on your needs, budget, and location, any of these plans might be an excellent choice for your business.

Get hyper-gig internet speeds for business from AT&T

AT&T Business Fiber is now offering plans with hyper-gig speeds, including Business Fiber 2 GIG and Business Fiber 5 GIG speeds.

† Speeds based on wired connection. Actual speeds may vary.  For 5GIG, single device wired speed maximum 4.7Gbps. For more info, go to www.att.com/speed101 .

4 Optional add on service providing backup router and 12 or 24 hours of battery backup in case of power outage. Terms, conditions, & restrictions apply.

5 Guards against known threats only; compatible Gateway and Smart Home Manager app required; security features must be enabled.

ATT Flexible Pooled Plans for businesses

Mobile Select: Flexible Pooled Plans

Maybe unlimited data is unnecessary. Maybe you need to curtail data usage by employees based on projects and location. If this situation sounds familiar, then consider an AT&T Mobile Select pooled data plan. With these plans, you still get unlimited talk and text along with a pool of shared data that you can assign to members of your plan.

How does that work? Let's say you sign up for 9 Gb of mobile data, with three of your employees signed up to your plan. With the Mobile Select plan, you can assign data limits to each employee within the 9 GB – so each of them can have a monthly limit of 3 Gb, or two can have 1.5 GB while the third has 6 GB. You have the complete freedom to assign your mobile data as you see fit.

Pooled plans also come with the same unlimited talk and text, plus AT&T Stream Saver. Stream Saver limits video quality to 480p (roughly DVD quality) while a phone is on the mobile network, so that streaming video doesn't use all of that monthly data. Once that phone is on a Wi-Fi network or attached to an AT&T hotspot, it will switch over to allow HD video.

AT&T Mobile Shared Plans for Business

Finally, if you just want a group data plan for your employees that covers all data usage from a shared account, then sign up for AT&T Share Data or Share Plus for Business. These two plans simplify your Business Wireless by allowing you to pay for aggregate data usage covering your team from a set limit, with options to extend your limit when needed.

Calling Features and Perks from AT&T Business Wireless

Depending on your plan, you also get access to several perks and features exclusive to the AT&T Wireless network. These include:

  • Wi-Fi Calling. Use local Wi-Fi when making and receiving calls. If you are in a location with Wi-Fi but have poor cellular coverage, you can count staying connected with your wireless device.
  • NumberSync . An app for iOS and Android devices that allows you to use your AT&T Mobile number with smart devices like tablets and wearable without needing access to your phone.
  • AT&T International Day Pass for Business. Qualifying customers can pay $10 per day to use talk, text, and data in over 100 countries without incurring heavy international rates.

AT&T Wireless is committed to helping business customers develop their local and global brands. With our coverage in over 200 countries and 7 continents, you can count on AT&T Wireless to make sure you and your staff are consistently available, within the reach of a cell phone call or email.

Providing Greater Value for Your Small Business

Download release (pdf), small business startups surged during the pandemic, and at&t is providing them tools to succeed.

AT&T Leadership and Frontline Teams are Helping New and Existing Entrepreneurs Stay Connected

What’s the news?  American entrepreneurs are alive and well. For all the challenges of the last 18 months, more than 4.4 million new businesses were created in the U.S. during 2020 – the highest total on record, according to the Census Bureau 1 . That’s a 24% increase from 2019 and 51% higher than the 2010-19 average. Half a million new businesses were started in January 2021 alone . From home-based innovators to office entrepreneurs to road warriors, small business creators of all types are getting down to work. And AT&T * is here to help with new technologies, services, and expertise.

  • AT&T Wireless Broadband Essentials plan 2 – exclusively for small businesses (SMBs) – gets a business online quickly. It’s a quick, easy plug-and-play solution with fast self-installation, simple pricing, unlimited data 3 , and 5G access 4 . And with no speed caps, the plan enables small businesses to access files from the cloud, process point-of-sale transactions, and more, on the go or at the office. The customer chooses an AT&T-certified 4G LTE or 5G/5G+ router or hotspot device 5 to accompany the $65/month plan 6 . Right now, small businesses can get a MiFi 8000 mobile hotspot free when they buy it on an AT&T Installment Plan and activate on the AT&T Wireless Broadband Essentials plan 7 .
  • 90 days of free wireless service 8 to help entrepreneurs start or expand their business. SMBs can mix and match plans with Unlimited Your Way for Business . We’ve updated our Unlimited Your Way-eligible tablet plans to include HD video (with Stream Saver turned off) 9 and have added up to 40 GB of mobile hotspot data 10 , all for the same price. We’ve also increased the mobile hotspot data allowance to 40GB for our Unlimited Your Way-eligible Business Unlimited Performance plan 11 for the same price as before.

Why is this important? Small businesses are one of the fastest growing segments of the U.S. business market. They have unique preferences based on their location, industry, and size. For example, roughly half of small businesses are home-based , while the remainder are office-based and field-based. In addition, more than half of small businesses plan to continue to offer long-term remote work options post-pandemic. With this rise in remote work, mobility and connectivity of employees, along with the need for communication and collaboration, has increased in importance 12 . In short, connectivity is a must to achieve reach and relevance.

What are we doing? Regardless of their location, size, or industry, research shows that across all segments the most common purchase drivers for small businesses are reliability, value, and customer service – areas in which we are renewing our focus.

Beyond connectivity, AT&T provides value-added resources and services to help small businesses use their time in the smartest way possible.

  • Most small business owners don’t have tech support staff, and time is the one thing they can’t make more of. AT&T can provide expertise and tailor services to SMBs’ needs.
  • Cybersecurity is another big concern for SMBs. According to a March 2021 report in Security Magazine, SMBs are the #1 target for cybersecurity breaches, and 60% of those whose systems are compromised close shop permanently within a year of the attack. AT&T has a proven track record in cybersecurity solutions . We can help SMBs determine where their systems are vulnerable and make practical recommendations to help them use their resources most effectively.
  • And we’re providing additional best practice and educational resources . For instance, we’ve teamed up with Barbara Corcoran, founder of The Corcoran Group, and a notable “Shark” from Shark Tank, to offer the free, informative webinar series, “’Business Unusual’, Smart Advice for Small Businesses – Presented by AT&T Business.” The webinars can help small businesses learn how to acquire new customers, keep the customers they already have, and succeed in today’s rapidly changing business environment. The next “Business Unusual” webinar is slated for October 13 at 1 p.m. CT. Users can register to view every webinar live on their respective dates at  888Barbara.com  at no cost.

What are people saying?

“Our goal is not only to help small businesses get started, but also to grow and be successful with them. We deliver great value wherever a small business is in its lifecycle and journey. From AT&T Wireless Broadband Essentials to AT&T Business Fiber and 5G devices, we’re delivering connectivity and business resources in several ways for entrepreneurs across the country.” – Robert Boyanovsky, vice president and general manager – Small Business, AT&T Business

“Successful small business that want to be competitive today and in the future in the digital economy need to partner smart. Working with companies like AT&T that provide not only connectivity services, but more value-added resources is a way that small businesses can create a competitive advantage.” – Shawn Fitzgerald, global research director, Worldwide Digital Transformation Strategies – IDC

AT&T is one of the largest cell phone network providers in the United States. AT&T offers small business cell phone plans to help businesses stay connected and save money.

Updated 15th of February 2021

We added comparisons between AT&T and popular competitors, changed pricing to new lower prices that makes AT&T a competitor in the communications industry. Added AT&T's selection of business solutions and pricing.

Get Unlimted Wireless

At&t wireless, unlimited talk, text, and data..

America's fastest network.

Low, multi-line prices.

AT&T is a top-ranking network provider that offers competitive cell phone plans for businesses of all sizes.

When looking at AT&T's strongest competitors T-Mobile and Verizon , the carrier does fall short in affordability, speed, and network coverage . Currently, Verizon leads the race as the carrier with the most network coverage across the United States. However, AT&T does provide better speed, coverage, and more features than T-Mobile, and its plans are more affordable than Verizon.

AT&T provides users with good coverage, a wide selection of plans and smartphones, and good international perks . In addition, the carrier is extremely accessible as the network provider has stores in almost every city. AT&T is also ideal for businesses and users that require strong streaming quality.

AT&T's plans are not the most affordable options available, especially for startups and businesses with small budgets. Furthermore, the carrier does have relatively low data deprioritization thresholds on unlimited plans, and the carrier reserves the right to throttle data speeds for all users during peak periods.

Reputation:

Most customers have been impressed with AT&T's quick setup and connection process. However, we did find more than five reviews where customers had issues with billing. In these cases, customers were either mistakenly billed or overcharged for services. Furthermore, AT&T's customer service needs some improvement, as customers have complained about poor support both online and in-store.

AT&T vs. T-Mobile:

T-Mobile and AT&T both offer similar features, such as unlimited data, text, and talk, and no roaming charges in Mexico and Canada. T-Mobile is the more affordable plan, charging $60.00 per month compared to $65.00 with AT&T. AT&T features Call Protect Basic for compatible devices; however, T-Mobile does offer greater network coverage.

AT&T vs. T-Mobile Comparison:

At&t vs. verizon:.

AT&T offers unlimited data, talk, and text, standard definition video streaming, and no roaming charges in Canada and Mexico for $65.00 per month, per line for its Unlimited Starter plan. Verizon offers similar features, including unlimited 4G LTE data (slower speed) and 480p DVD-quality streaming, on its Unlimited Start plan for $5.00 more than AT&T. However, both provide additional perks like AT&T's Call Protect Basic service and Verizon's free Apple subscription for the first six months.

AT&T vs. Verizon Comparison:

Business plans:, at&t mobile share plus for business:.

Recognizing that every business is different, AT&T created their Share Plus plan to accommodate businesses of all sizes and their individual communication needs. With this plan, you can share data to 10 or 25 phones, tablets, and other devices. Other perks include rollover data, stream saver, and unlimited talk and text.

AT&T offers a total of six Share Plus plans, with prices ranging between $50.00 and $750.00 per month, depending on the amount of data and phone lines your business requires.

Add $20/mo. for each line for a smartphone with a two year service commitment.

Phone lines are limited to 10 lines for the first three plans (3G - 20GB). However, with the last three plans (30GB - 120GB), businesses can purchase additional lines for $15.00 per line.

Add Devices:

Plan includes:.

  • Shareable data.
  • Rollover Data.
  • Stream saver.
  • Unlimited Talk & Text.
  • Mobile Hot Spot/Tethering Use.
  • Suspected spam and fraud alerts.

AT&T Business Unlimited:

AT&T offers three Business Unlimited plans, which feature 5G-enabled technology, unlimited data, talk, and text, as well as HD streaming. The AT&T Business Unlimited plan comes in three variations: Starter, Performance, and Elite.

Unlimited Starter:

The Starter plan is AT&T's lowest priced plan, with prices starting at $65.00 per month for one line. However, this price may decrease to $35.00 with the AutoPay and paperless billing discount. This plan is best suited for startups and small businesses who only require basic features, such as standard definition video streaming, unlimited domestic data, talk, and text on up to 10 eligible devices, as well as unlimited talk and text to Canada and Mexico.

Unlimited Performance:

The Performance plan starts at $75.00 per month for one line and comes equipped with the exact same features as the Starter plan, including unlimited text, talk, and data, both domestic and in Canada and Mexico. AT&T Business speeds: What’s best for you?

AT&T Business’ 300Mbps fiber plan is the best speed for most small businesses. You likely need faster speeds for more than five employees or customers regularly using the same Wi-Fi. But 300Mbps is a solid start, giving you ample bandwidth for email, virtual calls, and even running a web or email server.

Still, the speed needs of a business vary depending on the size of your office and the number of users on your Wi-Fi. The more employees you have using Wi-Fi–connected computers and phones, the faster your speeds should be.

Also, consider getting faster speeds if you regularly conduct business over the internet. The last thing you want is your company email or online transactions to slow to a crawl in the middle of a busy workday.

The best way to estimate how much speed you need is by counting the number of people in your office. Take a look at the table below for guidance.

How much speed does your business need?

At&t business data caps.

AT&T Business internet plans don’t have any data caps. That means you and your employees can use the internet as much as you need throughout the month without worrying about overages or throttled speeds.

Is AT&T Business internet available where you live?

Our favorite plan: AT&T Business Fiber 500 Mbps is an excellent plan for a wide range of businesses. This plan gives you superb speeds and unbeatable reliability. The plan’s symmetrical upload and download speeds ensure you get plenty of bandwidth to support all sorts of work tasks, ranging from basic email to video conference calls and running web servers. You don’t have to worry about data caps, customer support is available around the clock, and the ActiveArmor feature keeps your network safe from cyber threats.

AT&T Business internet extra features

In addition to your AT&T Business Fiber package, you can add additional features to give your business a leg up against the competition.

Static IP addresses let you run web servers, email, and company VPNs

An IP address is the code that internet providers, servers, and other websites use to identify your location for transferring data. Most IP addresses are dynamic, meaning they change on a regular basis (usually every couple of weeks).

A static IP address, on the other hand, always stays the same. Static IP addresses come in handy because they provide a solid foundation for web servers, company email addresses, and VPNs.

AT&T Internet Backup protects your Wi-Fi from unexpected outages

In the event that your internet goes out, AT&T’s Internet Backup kicks in to keep your Wi-Fi rolling for mission-critical components like credit card readers and point-of-sale software.

The equipment works over a 4G LTE wireless connection (the same network as a cell phone), and you can use the backup for as long as necessary without worrying about data limits. The wireless hardware also comes with a backup battery, so it works even during power outages.

Advanced internet security keeps your network extra-safe

AT&T Business Fiber routers already come equipped with ActiveArmor security features, but you can add on additional security precautions to take a step further in preventing malware and ransomware attacks. The advanced security features include a VPN, an online dashboard to monitor blocked threats in real time, and a range of customizable security settings.

AT&T Phone for Business gives you phone service without a landline

AT&T Phone for Business gives you a digital phone service with unlimited calling across the United States, U.S. territories, Mexico, and Canada. It comes with a $50 reward card, so it’s a decent bundle deal if you don’t already have a phone line for your business phone set up.

AT&T Business internet fees

One of the best things about AT&T Business Fiber is that it doesn’t have a lot of extra fees. You don’t need to sign up for a contract—therefore you don’t have to worry about early termination fees if you cancel your service.

You get unlimited data, and you don’t have to pay extra for installation or for the gateway that comes with your plan. They say a dollar saved is a dollar earned, and lots of dollars are earned here.

AT&T Business internet installation, equipment, and contracts

AT&T Business Fiber requires professional installation—which technically costs $99 but gets waived when you order online.

AT&T Business installation and equipment

When you order your internet, you also pick a time for a professional technician to come by to set up your Wi-Fi.

The technician makes sure everything is wired up properly, and they set up your gateway (a combination modem/router that comes with your internet package). Professional installation normally costs anywhere from $100 to $200, so getting it free is a sweet deal.

AT&T Business internet contracts

AT&T Business internet plans don’t come with annual contracts. You’re free to cancel any time without having to pay early termination fees.

AT&T Business internet customer ratings

*Based on our annual customer satisfaction survey

AT&T has average to above-average ratings in our annual customer satisfaction survey . The provider’s fiber customers reported being especially happy with their service, giving much higher marks for speed and reliability than DSL customers did. AT&T’s Business internet plans all run over fiber-optic networks, so rest assured you get quality service.

In addition to our own survey, AT&T also took the lead in JD Power’s 2022 US Business Wireline Satisfaction Study.1 The provider’s Business Fiber enterprise plans beat out competitors Verizon and Cox Business for the fifth year in a row with a score of 872 out of 1,000.

AT&T Business vs. Comcast Business Internet

AT&T’s Business Fiber plans are a much better deal than Comcast Business Internet. You get faster speeds on AT&T’s fiber-optic connection with symmetrical uploads and downloads, which ensure smooth connections for all sorts of work tasks. You pay a lower price for faster plans. Comcast has lengthy contract terms, but AT&T has no contracts at all. And AT&T’s prices for extras like 4G LTE backup and static IP addresses are a lot cheaper too.

AT&T Business vs. Spectrum Business Internet

Spectrum and AT&T offer a lot of the same things—including round-the-clock customer support and add-on features like static IP addresses and wireless internet backup. One nice thing from Spectrum Business is you can get custom email addresses and domain registration for free. Still, AT&T has the edge over Spectrum because it gets you faster speeds over its fiber-optic connection.

AT&T Business vs. Verizon Business Internet

Verizon Business Fiber plans are undoubtedly excellent—Verizon has some of the fastest and most reliable fiber internet in the country. But its plans cost more than AT&T’s and come with a two-year contract. Verizon does offer some deals, including a price guarantee for up to three years and a Visa prepaid card worth up to $800. AT&T is still probably the better bet, just because it’s easier on the wallet. But either provider gets you top-notch service.

Is AT&T Business internet right for you?

AT&T Business internet is definitely the right pick for you if you value fast speeds and reliable service at an affordable price. You can’t beat AT&T’s symmetrical fiber-optic speeds, and its unlimited data and the absence of annual contracts give your business lots of flexibility. AT&T’s affordable add-ons like static IP addresses and 4G LTE backup are well worth the price too.

FAQ about AT&T Business internet

What are the best routers for at&t business internet.

The best router for AT&T Business is the gateway that comes with the service—you don’t have to pay anything extra, and it comes with a lot of useful security features.

If you want to use your own router, though, we recommend TP-Link’s AX6600 , a powerful piece of equipment that ensures wide Wi-Fi range with its eight antennas and keeps your network protected with security scans and other safety features.

AT&T Business Internet Review 2023

4 out of 5 stars

The bottom line:  AT&T business internet offers an impressive and competitively priced suite of basic plans for small businesses. Because of its pricey high-speed plans and small fiber internet footprint, you’ll want to shop around to ensure your business gets the right internet package.

AT&T business internet: Best for small and new businesses

New businesses tend to have minimal internet needs. And if you have only a couple of connected devices, you can probably get away with speeds in the 25 to 50 Mbps range. At the base level, you can download large files and provide Wi-Fi for your employees and customers. At 50 Mbps, you can also stream videos interruption-free and hold videoconferences with clients and partners.

If your needs go beyond these basic necessities—like running high-functioning SaaS (software as a service) and cloud computing services or connecting a high volume of devices and users—you’ll need high-speed internet access, which means AT&T may not be your best option thanks to its higher costs for premium plans.

What you should know about AT&T business internet

With origins dating back to Alexander Graham Bell, AT&T is a global telecommunications organization and Fortune 500 company. Today, the company boasts the most revenue of any communications corporation in the world and provides phone, television, and high-speed internet services across the globe. 2

As a business Internet Service Provider (ISP) , AT&T offers a range of products and services to organizations of any size. Its internet plans have a lot to like, but AT&T isn’t perfect for every business and shouldn't be treated as a one-size-fits-all internet option.

Here’s what our research on AT&T business internet turned up, both the good and the not-so-great.

AT&T’s business internet pricing and speed breakdown by plan

AT&T business fiber offers speeds up to 5 gigabit per second (5 Gbps)—some of the fastest speeds currently available. AT&T’s business fiber plans even include symmetrical upload and download speeds. If you frequently use VoIP and video teleconferencing, choose a symmetrical fiber plan.

Reliability and support: AT&T offers solid service

Speed and price are important for business internet, but to keep things running smoothly, you have more to consider. Your internet connection reliability—and what the provider will do for you if something goes wrong—should hold the same importance when making a purchase decision.

So how does AT&T stack up? We dug into the details of the company’s business internet plans and uncovered some service level agreements related to reliability.

AT&T business internet comes with an uptime guarantee of 99.95%. This means that the company agrees to keep your connection “up,” or online, 99.95% of a calendar month, which by our math translates to a maximum downtime of about 44 minutes a month.

So what happens if AT&T breaks the uptime guarantee? First, it’s important to note that AT&T doesn’t count certain instances in its “network availability” service level agreement, including scheduled network maintenance or force majeure (unavoidable or chance) events.

Barring those situations, if AT&T fails to meet the guarantee during any month, you’ll get one day’s credit of your monthly service fee. If your business operations rely heavily on an always-on internet connection, this may not seem like the greatest recourse.

Technical and customer support

For businesses that rely on steady internet connectivity for day-to-day operations, reliability is king. But what happens when something eventually does go wrong? No internet service is perfect, and you’re bound to face an outage at some point. It’s important to know if you can expect your service provider’s tech support to respond to any problems and resolve them quickly.

So how does AT&T’s support measure up? Although it’s difficult to separate residential and commercial customer service ratings, we did find some details worth highlighting. J.D. Power and Associates, a respected US company-rating organization, studies business internet providers and rates the customer satisfaction for these providers each year. The customer satisfaction score takes into account several factors, including reliability, cost, and customer service.

And in 2019, AT&T took first for the “large enterprise” category and second for “small/medium.” 3   Three years later, in 2022, AT&T took first place in J.D. Power’s “large enterprise," third in "small/medium" and fourth and fourth in “very small” categories. 4

AT&T Business Internet vs. top competitors

Data as of 4/20/23. Offers and availability may vary by location and are subject to change.

AT&T business internet: The fine print

Aside from monthly service costs, you may have to pay certain fees and sign a contract with AT&T business internet.

Fiber plans have a lower one-time installation fee of $99—but you can’t avoid the fee and install the equipment yourself because of the complexity of this type of connection.

With any business plan from AT&T, you have 30 days to try out the service. If you’re not satisfied, you can return the equipment and have all charges reimbursed.

Cheapest plan: Internet 25

If you need basic web, downloading, and streaming, go with this budget-friendly and bare-bones plan starting at $50 per month.

The takeaway

Thanks to a wide and reasonably priced line of fiber plans, AT&T business internet is a great choice for newer, smaller businesses with simpler internet speed needs.

However, if you have more complex speed demands, such as for many devices, AT&T's prices can quickly skyrocket. In that case, we find competitors, such as Verizon , might be a better option.

Bottom line, if you want to go with AT&T, carefully weigh your needs and wants compared to your budget. Ultimately, AT&T is great for basic internet needs—but nothing more complex.

FAQs about AT&T business internet

Yes, AT&T internet services can be trusted. If your business requires top-of-the-line speeds, reliability, and support, consider AT&T Dedicated Internet Access. AT&T designed this service for companies with many locations that need constant connection and ultimate performance. You’ll get dedicated, 24/7 customer support and monitoring services plus enhanced service level agreements to keep your business running at lightning speeds.

At any AT&T business internet speed, even 25 Mbps, you should have no problem using the web and downloading files on a few devices. At 50 Mbps, you can more easily stream videos and set up internet voice and videoconference calls.

If your needs go beyond these basic necessities—like running sophisticated cloud services or connecting many devices to the network—you’ll need higher speeds. Consider bumping your plan to the 100-plus download speed levels, getting a symmetric connection plan, or—if available in your area—buying fiber-optic internet with no data caps.

What’s the difference between DSL and fiber?

DSL, which stands for digital subscriber line, is a type of high-speed connection sent through existing phone lines to deliver internet to customers. Because it uses readily available connections, DSL plans are usually cheaper than fiber connections. But DSL speed can vary depending on your distance from the port, or origin, of the connection.

Fiber internet is a more recently distributed technology that uses fiber-optic connections to send information at light speed through glass conductors. Fiber internet doesn’t rely on existing phone wires, and your physical distance from the connection’s origin doesn’t affect quality. The disadvantages? Fiber is costlier thanks to the newer, special cable installation. It’s also not as widely available as other internet connections, and rural fiber connections are rare.

AT&T used to provide DSL service, but now it offers only fiber plans.

What is AT&T U-verse business internet?

AT&T used to brand its TV, phone, and internet services with the AT&T U-verse trademark. But recently rebranded its U-verse high-speed internet and phone services as simply AT&T Internet and AT&T Phone.

Although you may still encounter a few instances of the AT&T U-verse name on various business plans, the company now uses the trademark for only its U-verse TV services.

Technical terminology

We’ve been there—when we first started researching and reviewing internet companies, we didn’t know our bandwidth from our asymmetric connections so we've explained some terms you might come across in your quest for internet.

Fiber-optic internet connections offer some of the highest speeds in the market. But with most plans, your upload speeds are much lower than your download speeds.

These connections are called asymmetric, and they’re fine for most businesses. But if you and your employees regularly upload large files or use high-end videoconferencing services over software-defined networks, you might need a symmetric connection that gives you the same upload and download speeds.

As an overused piece of business jargon, bandwidth refers to someone’s ability to handle tasks. The term comes from the internet world, and its true meaning is the capacity of an internet connection to transmit data. Bandwidth measures the greatest number of kilobits, megabits, or gigabits a connection can transfer each second.

People often confuse bandwidth with speed , which refers to how fast a certain connection transfers data. When you see AT&T marketing a plan as 25 Mbps, they mean the connection has the bandwidth, or capacity, to carry speeds up to 25 Mbps. But your actual speed may vary depending on factors like distance from the port (for DSL lines) and the number of users currently using the connection.

Bandwidth and speed aren’t the only factors important to business internet connections— latency makes a big difference too. Latency (sometimes called ping or lag ) is the time it takes for a packet of information to get from one end of an internet connection to the other and then back again. This delay—represented in milliseconds—can be affected by distance, bandwidth, and the type of connection. Fiber connections, which operate using pulses of light, offer lower latency rates than DSL connections. AT&T business internet guarantees a maximum latency rate of 40 ms, which fits most activities.

Every computer on the internet is assigned a unique Internet Protocol (IP) address , and IPs can be either dynamic (change over time) or static (stay the same). You may want a static IP address for your business if you operate your own web server or use remote connecting services like VPN. Most AT&T business plans let you purchase static IP addresses for about $15 to $25 each.

One of your top concerns should be uptime, or the total amount of online connection time. Uptime is represented as a percentage of a year or month. It’s common in the industry to refer to the number of nines a company offers you in their guarantee. AT&T, for example, guarantees uptime at 99.95%. Some companies’ guarantees can go as high as four or five nines, giving you significantly less internet downtime over the course of the year.

Methodology

To determine AT&T's star rating, we looked at pricing, overall value, small business expertise, and average internet speeds, among other factors.

Unlimited Tablet Plan   **TOP PICK**

Top Pick Star

However, there's also a little-known standalone unlimited data tablet plan, which is $30/month that can be purchased ala carte without other lines of service.

There is little information available on the current details of the plan as it's not listed on their business page, we have found an official PDF from AT&T Business describing the plan . The plan has network management after 22GB of usage, includes some high-speed mobile hotspot use (assumed to be at 10GB), and HD video streaming (if Video Management is turned off).

Note that the price of this plan increased from $20/month to $30/month in early 2023.

It is listed in AT&T's system as "AT&T Unlimited Tablet." Previous versions were called "Unlimited For iPad" and "Unlimited for Tablet." You'll have to find a rep who knows about this plan over the phone or in a corporate store to activate it on a cellular-enabled tablet.

This is a post-paid plan for tablets only, with a $50 activation fee.

Wireless Broadband

Wireless broadband plans   **top pick**.

Top Pick Notes : The Wireless Broadband Plans include unlimited data, with different price points for different speed thresholds. They include 5G access and can be used with  AT&T compatible cellular embedded routers or mobile hotspots that have at least a Cat-11  cellular modem. While they are intended for business customers, they are eligible for mobile use.

AT&T offers a lineup of Wireless Broadband plans which are tiered-speed data plans for hotspots and routers. They are intended to be a primary, failover, or temporary connection for business needs and an easy-to-set-up option for new and remote business locations. They include unlimited data, are priced by the rated speed cap and prioritization threshold, and all include 5G access.

They also come with a bucket of priority data for use with business-specific applications like point-of-sale terminals, inventory management software, kiosks, ATMs, etc.

When first introduced, these plans were restricted to only being used for fixed locations. But in 2021, that restriction was removed, and they are now eligible for mobile use.

  • Ultra (100 Mbps) - $95/month (Requires a Cat-18 or higher device)
  • Pro (50 Mbps) - $75/month (Requires a Cat-18 or higher device)
  • Core (25 Mbps) - $65/month (Requires a Cat-11 or higher device)

Prices reflect $5/month discounts for AutoPay and paperless billing.

Plan Limitations

The Business Wireless Broadband plans include some specific limitations you should know:

Eligibility: All Wireless Broad accounts are for Business customers only and require a credit check on an SSN for sole proprietors or the federal tax ID for a business.

Eligible Devices:

  • "Plans are limited to one CRU line and require a qualified data-only wireless router or mobile hotspot device (sold separately) using business applications."
  • Our testing and other user reports indicate that AT&T is actively enforcing these device minimums - including when you swap the SIM to a lower-category device.
  • Plan Types Available: Data
  • Devices Permitted: AT&T compatible cellular embedded router or mobile hotspot with a Cat-11/18 or higher modem
  • High-Speed Mobile Hotspot Use:  Yes, all data is hotspot data
  • Ultra: 100 Mbps
  • Pro: 50 Mbps
  • Core: 25 Mbps
  • Ultra: 50GB
  • Ultra: After 175GB
  • Pro: After 125GB
  • Core: After 100GB
  • Video Streaming Resolution: 4K UHD (With Video Management disabled)
  • International Roaming: No, for US use only.
  • From the fine print: "Excessive Off-Net Usage: You get an off-net (roaming) usage allowance for each service (see Business Agreement). If you exceed the allowance, your service(s) maybe restricted or terminated."
  • Lines permitted per account: Not specified

Other Data Plans

Business dataconnect plans.

These are the business versions of the consumer DataConnect plans that provide buckets of tiered data and automatically assess overages for exceeding the bucket allowance.

The current options are:

  • 50GB for $55
  • 100GB for $90

Prices above include a $10 discount for autopay and paperless billing.

Customers who go over the data allotment will automatically get increments of 5GB of additional data for $10 per increment.

These options come with 5G and 5G+ (AT&T's mmWave network) for compatible devices.

AT&T PDF with full details

Business Data Advantage Plans

The Business Data Advantage Plans offer plans with a high-speed data cap, and then unlimited data at 512 Kbps after that.

The current plan options are:

  • 10GB for $50
  • 20GB for $90
  • 45GB for $150

These plans come with 5G and 5G+ (AT&T's mmWave network) for compatible devices.

Business Connect Plans

AT&T's Business Connect plans come in three flavors: Telemetry, Capped, and Backup .

The "backup" option is the only remotely viable option, but it is intended to use shared buckets of "pooled" with multiple devices.  Data costs range from 250MB for $20 to 200GB for $950 (not a typo).

Once data caps are reached, additional data will be automatically added.

These plans can access AT&T's 5G networks with a compatible device.

Business Mobile Select Pooled Plans

The business Mobile Select Pooled plan combines a variety of types of devices into a single pooled plan, but the data caps out at 10GB per device. Overages on one device can be offset by using less data on another device. 5G access is available with compatible devices.

Business Plan Requirements

AT&T Business offerings are generally available to any business customer, but some plans may only be available to certain types of business accounts and may be restricted based on credit history.

AT&T Business Logo

Setting up a business account can be done at an AT&T store or by calling business sales at 855-707-1019.  Generally, the best method is to call business sales and talk to a rep directly as store reps are often not knowledgeable about business options. You cannot sign up for a business account on the AT&T website.

Here is the information required to set up a business account:

  • A Business tax ID or SSN as a sole proprietor
  • A driver's license number
  • The plan you want to sign up for
  • The IMEI of the device you want the plan for if you are getting a BYOD option
  • Contact & billing information

AT&T will run a credit check on the business or your personal SSN. Credit history requirements are not published, but if the credit check doesn't meet AT&T's requirements, AT&T may require a per-line refundable deposit of $1,000 to activate business service.

Once you get a business account, signing up for additional lines/plans is generally done through your business sales representative, but a few plans are available at some AT&T stores.

Best AT&T Plans: How to Choose and Which Ones to Pick in April 2024

AT&T has four main plans listed on its website. We try to make sense of them.

Our Experts

business plans att

CNET’s expert staff reviews and rates dozens of new products and services each month, building on more than a quarter century of expertise.

AT&T name and logo, and their reflection

When it comes to wireless plans, AT&T is among the simplest. Like its rival US carriers, AT&T offers a variety of different options all under the promise of "unlimited" talk, text and data. Unlike T-Mobile, which has at least seven options listed on its website, AT&T has a much simpler offering (albeit with worse names):

  • Unlimited Starter SL
  • Unlimited Extra EL
  • Unlimited Premium PL
  • Value Plus VL

All offer unlimited talk, text and data but all also have different prices, features and perks. Which ones should you consider? Let's break it down.

Read more: Our Guide to the Best Cell Phone Plans

  • AT&T's network is solid
  • Includes use in Canada and Mexico
  • No hotspot data
  • Everyone needs to be on the same plan
  • Need to go to "more plans" section to find Value Plus VL option
  • Device promotions may not qualify for this plan

$51 a month for one line, $124 a month for four lines

Best at&t plan for most people: value plus vl.

AT&T has two base plans that are largely similar, the Unlimited Starter SL and Value Plus VL. Both include unlimited talk, text and data and lack an allotment of high-speed data so in either scenario you could find yourself slowed down in busy areas (think packed stadiums or arenas). You can, however, tap into AT&T's 5G network and both plans also include unlimited talk, text and data in Canada and Mexico.

The biggest differences are that Starter SL includes 5GB of hotspot data per line and Value Plus VL needs everyone on your account to be on the same plan. Most people don't need the hotspot data and, in that case, will probably be fine with Value Plus VL and are better off saving the money.

Rounding up, one line of Value Plus VL is $51 while a single line of Starter SL is $66 (both factoring in automatic payments and paper-free billing). Spending an extra $15 a month for 5GB of hotspot data seems excessive. The difference at four lines is $20 a month ($124 for Value Plus VL versus $144 for Starter SL). At least in this case, getting Starter SL will allow you to put other people on your plan who need more features, like international roaming in Latin America or more high-speed or hotspot data, to be on pricier AT&T plans like Extra EL or Premium PL while those who don't need such options stay on the cheaper Starter SL.

It is also worth noting that Value Plus VL may not qualify for AT&T's upgrade deals, so those looking for new devices may need to look at Starter SL instead.

AT&T doesn't push the Value Plus VL and hides it behind a "more plans" section on its plans page.

AT&T name and logo, and their reflection

  • AT&T has a solid network
  • Not everyone needs to be on the same plan
  • Good amount of high-speed and hotspot data
  • No streaming perks
  • No international data outside of Mexico and Canada

The upgrade pick for those who want faster data or hotspot

At&t unlimited extra el.

Unlike T-Mobile and Verizon, AT&T no longer offers perks like bundled streaming services. While it used to offer HBO (now Max) with its older top plans, today its pricier options largely differentiate themselves with how much hotspot or high-speed data it offers domestically and in 20 Latin American countries.

For people looking for a step up from AT&T's base plans, and aren't regular travelers to Latin America, our pick is the company's Unlimited Extra EL. With this plan you get 75GB of high-speed data and 30GB of hotspot.

A single line of Extra runs $76 a month (assuming automatic payments and paperless billing), while if you had four lines it would be around $164 monthly ($41 per line). Like Starter SL and Premium PL, AT&T allows those with this plan to "mix and match" lines on a family account so if only one person needs extra data or hotspot they can be on this plan while others are on the cheaper Starter SL.

AT&T's top plan, Premium PL, is $10 more per line, per month than Extra EL. For that price you do get unlimited high-speed data with no limits, 60GB of hotspot data per month, the ability to stream content on your phone in 4K and unlimited talk, text and high-speed data in 20 Latin American countries. However, for most people, we think you'd be better off saving the money and getting the step-down plan (and potentially upgrading to this option for a month if you're traveling or need more data).

How we test

Picking a wireless plan and carrier is an individualized process. What works for you and your family's needs may be vastly different from your friends or neighbors. Even geographically, some areas have better AT&T coverage while others work best on Verizon or T-Mobile (and vice versa). The picks we make are based on over a decade of covering and evaluating wireless carriers, their offerings and their performance.

Since choosing a provider is unique, we focus on larger plans and the value they provide; as well as calling out ways you can test the different networks in your area for yourself so you can make the best pick.

Factors to consider: Know your area

As we covered in our other wireless guides, to get the best deal you need to make sure you have the coverage that you need. This makes it hard to give a blanket recommendation of any one carrier. T-Mobile's service in New York may be excellent, but if you're in rural Iowa, Verizon is more reliable.

While your mileage may vary, the good news is that these networks are growing and improving all the time, particularly as the three major players race to blanket the US with 5G. It's quite possible that you left a network complaining about its sparse service a decade ago, but now it's beefed itself up because of that race to acquire customers.

If you know any friends or family in your area that already use the carrier you're considering, ask about their experience. You could also go to a carrier's store and see if they offer any free ways to try out the service before switching over, such as  T-Mobile's Network Pass . Verizon  offers a similar 30-day "Test Drive" program,  while the Cricket prepaid service  has its own trial program  that lets you sample parent AT&T's network.

AT&T phone plan FAQs

What about unlimited premium pl.

As mentioned above, for most people the Unlimited Premium PL plan doesn't make much sense. It is $10 a month, per line pricier than the Extra EL option and doesn't give a whole lot for it. Yes, you get unlimited high-speed data on your phone (up from 75GB on Extra EL), 60GB of hotspot data (up from 30GB), 4K streaming and unlimited talk, text and high-speed data in 20 Latin American countries but no international roaming in other parts of the world unlike Verizon's Unlimited Ultimate or T-Mobile's Go5G and Magenta plans.

If you are someone who benefits from those features, great, but I think most people will be better off saving the money and going to a lower-tier plan like Extra and then upgrading to the top plan for the times when they may be using more hotspot data or traveling.

Do I need to change my AT&T plan when I upgrade my phone?

You don't necessarily need to change plans when you upgrade your phone, and unlike AT&T's rivals, you notably don't need to change your plan to the carrier's priciest options to get its latest and best device deals.

One exception is with Value Plus VL. In addition to lacking the option to have people on different plans, those on this option may not be eligible for device trade-in deals.

Are there discounts to lower my AT&T bill?

Yes, like its rivals AT&T offers a variety of discounts depending on your age, employer or profession. Teachers, nurses, physicians, military, first responders, veterans and more can take advantage of various programs that could save you significant money on your bill. It also offers special pricing for those age 55 or above (though this is limited just to those in Florida  with a max of two lines).

It's worth noting that these discounts are often for the whole account. If you have three lines and one of those users is a first responder or a teacher, your entire family can benefit from the savings.

Your employer might also take part in AT&T's Signature program that can knock $10 per line, per month off the Premium PL plan.

We cover a variety of these discounts here .

Here’s Where to Find Verizon and AT&T Broadband Facts

Verizon 5G

We may earn a commission when you click links to retailers and purchase goods. More info.

By April 10, the FCC asked all broadband providers in the US to list broadband facts or labels on their sites that provide easy-to-digest information about their wired and wireless plans. These labels would be used like the nutrition labels on food are, in a way that lets you know the straight-forward details without having to go digging.

T-Mobile made a big announcement last week to let customers know that their “broadband facts” were presented on plan pages and should be easy for everyone to find. I can confirm that their broadband labels are indeed on plan pages and are easy to spot. After opening their unlimited data plans page, a simple click on each plan’s dedicated “Broadband Facts” box expands into a lengthy list of plan pricing, features, data speeds, etc. They are super handy.

For Verizon and AT&T, I’ve been looking off and on for the past week to see if their broadband facts would land on plan pages, which I’d imagine is where the FCC would like them to be placed. As far as I can (still) tell, they are not there. Looking through the overview from the FCC on the new labels ( here ),  they don’t specify that they want providers to list them on plan pages, only that each plan has a broadband label somewhere online or at point of sale. So of course, I struggled to find them.
