Assignment: Ada , also known as Ada the Spy in some regions, is a non-canon minigame featured in Resident Evil 4 unlocked after completing the game.

The minigame's plot involves Ada collecting a number of plaga samples as ordered by Albert Wesker (as opposed to collecting the single control plaga sample like in the main game). Ada does so and then reports back to Wesker that the mission was completed. She also states that Krauser was killed despite the implication that he had actually survived.

Although the plot is non-canon, it is interesting to note the ending scene has one of the biggest allusions to Resident Evil 5 in that Albert Wesker talks about "Significant changes in our world".

Gameplay [ ]

Ada wears a unique costume in the minigame which is a military-style uniform as opposed to her red dress as in the main game.

The game begins at the beginning of the island at Wharf A and ends at the Communications tower . The item layout on the map has been reworked for the minigame and pesetas and treasures are not found or used at all. The player must find the five samples of the Las Plagas parasite which are marked on the player's map. The only enemies featured are Ganado militia , Gatling Men , and Jack Krauser as the "boss" in the final area the player must defeat to get the last Plaga Sample.

The minigame is relatively short and is meant to be completed in one play-through as there are no save points during it. Ada starts the game with 6 & 2/4 Bars of health and has a slightly faster movement speed than Leon. The Plaga Samples Ada must collect take up space in the inventory instead of the Keys & Treasures menu.

Loadout [ ]

Ada begins the game with a set loadout with the default size case. In the GameCube, PlayStation 2, and the 2007 PC versions, she doesn't have a knife. In all other releases, she does. There are no other weapons to find besides Hand Grenades and ammo and the Merchant does not appear at all. Ada has the following items and firearms with the following stats;

Plaga Sample locations [ ]

Each Plaga Sample takes up 1x2 spaces of inventory. Due to them being mandatory in order to complete the scenario Plaga Samples are the only items in the game that cannot be discarded after putting them in the Attache Case.

Area	Location
	In the same place where the was in the main game.
	Held by a corpse in the larger room.
	In the very back of the holding room.
	In the very center of the lab area with all the shelves.
	Dropped by Krauser after defeating him.

Strategy [ ]

In the GameCube and PlayStation2 versions, Ada has no knife, so try and conserve ammo and, to open multiple crates, line them up and shoot them in one bullet using the Punisher.
Try to not get carried away with the Punisher's high rate of fire.
Single-fire the TMP when possible to conserve ammo.
Using The TMP full-auto is best saved to be used against shielded militia in close range, or multiple enemies, due to its high fire rate and high bullet consumption.
Ada's melee attacks, Fan Kick and Back Kick, are particularly useful, due to your lack of a knife, and need to conserve ammo.
Try to avoid Gatling Men whenever possible. They're relatively easy to flank in most presented situations, and not worth wasting ammo over, unless you are in dire need of a First Aid Spray or a Hand Grenade .
Krauser is really easy to beat if you do this correctly. When he appears, dodge his attacks and run to the door you originally came from. Then equip your sniper rifle. Reenter the room where Krauser is. He will charge at you from the far end of the walkway, using his plaga arm as a shield. Try and snipe his knees before he reaches you. if you do, when he staggers, try and shoot either his head or upper chest. Repeat that until he reaches you. Just before he reaches you, re-enter that door again, reload and re-enter Krauser's room again. He spawns at the very end of the catwalk. Repeat what's above until he's dead. Grenades are more risky, due to their range, but also work well too if you can time it right. Sustained TMP fire at his knees is also effective. On the Wii, Xbox Live and PSN versions, do this same tactic, but try knifing him when he drops to his knee. This is very useful in speed running, as it only takes a few slashes to defeat him.
Discard the Scope for the Semi-Auto Sniper since it is basically useless, this might help when collecting Plaga Samples since you need them in your Attache Case.
After the fight with Krauser, no more enemies appear. Anything other than the first four Plaga samples may be discarded to make space in the inventory for the final sample.

Yellow Herbs [ ]

Due to Ada's low health, Yellow Herbs are vital in order to stay alive and take more hits. There are seven in the minigame. Collecting them all raises Ada's max health from 6 & 1/2Bars to 8 1/4 Bars.

Wharf A	In a small box on top of the cliff reached by using the "CLIMB UP" command in the beginning of the area.
Wharf A	In the room that Gatling Man comes out of, behind the sand bags.
	After going up the ladder, in the cave with the grenade chest in it, by the crack in the wall where you can see the grenade chest.
Autopsy Room	Behind a glass protected shelf.
Confinement room	After the hallway in the actual room, in the right-hand corner of the room.
	In the small room at the end of the hall on the desk.
Culture room	In the back of the lab area with all the shelves beside a Green Herb and a Red Herb.

Results [ ]

There is no formal results screen displayed at the end of Assignment: Ada . However, a unique credits sequence plays consisting of cutscenes from the main game but with Leon in his Special 1 costume and Ada in her costume from The Mercenaries minigame (The R.P.D uniform and Resident Evil 2 dress respectively).

In the Gamecube version, beating the minigame will unlock the Chicago Typewriter for the main game, in all subsequent releases, however, the weapon unlocks for use in Separate Ways instead.

Resident Evil 4 DLC: Separate Ways, Assignment Ada & more

The original Resident Evil 4 featured two adventures called Separate Ways and Assignment Ada where you could play as Ada Wong, but will the Resident Evil 4 remake feature either as DLC?

Ada Wong is back in the Resident Evil 4 remake and her role is largely the same, although her ending is expanded. In the original game, Ada had her own small mission called Assignment Ada that unlocked after the main campaign was completed. This was just a short level in which Ada needed to make it from one side of RE4’s Island fort to another, battling enemies and bosses along the way.

When RE4 was re-released on PS2, Xbox, and PC, a second mission for Ada was added to the game , one that expanded her role and explained what Ada was doing while Leon was saving Ashley. This was called Separate Ways and was considerably longer and more detailed than Assignment Ada. It was also canon and emulated Leon’s campaign in many ways.

The question is, will Assignment Ada and Separate Ways return in the Resident Evil 4 remake as DLC?

Does RE4 Separate Ways have a release date?

While Ada’s campaign wasn’t included in the base game of Resident Evil 4, Separate Ways will be released on September 21, 2023 , on all platforms. So far, there’s been no word on if Separate ways will be a free or paid DLC.

The original Separate Ways wasn’t included in the original Resident Evil 4 when it was first released on the GameCube, as the mission was only added to the game in later versions. Therefore, it makes sense for the mission to be released as DLC.

As in the original RE4, the church tower in the village collapses at a crucial point in the game – seemingly for no reason. Those who played Separate Ways will remember that it was Ada who caused this to aid Leon from afar, and therefore, Ada is still following her Separate Ways story in the RE4 remake, which gave some fans a clue that the mode was coming.

While Separate Ways has been confirmed by Capcom to be Resident Evil 4 DLC. There’s been nothing confirmed about Assignment Ada, however, Separate Ways replaces that mission in many ways, so it makes sense for only that larger content to be included as RE4 DLC.

so I had the idea of trying to create a reimagined version of Ada's costume from Assignment Ada out of other costumes from RE Engine games.
I didn't want to port the original model from RE4 because I wanted a model that matches the high fidelity of RE2R

Models I used for this:
Holster/Vest/stomach/lower half of shirt - Military Claire
Pants - Noir Claire
Shirt/Arms/Gloves/belts on body armor - STARS Jill
Boots - Classic Jill
Utility Belt - RE3 NPC Cop
turtle neck addition to the shirt - REsistance Wastelander Jill
leg harness - RE7 Chris (technically it's taken from his RE:Verse model, but that's reusing his RE7 model *shrug*)

the mod affects Dress Ada and Injured Ada. Coat Ada isn't affected.

There's four versions of this mod.
one with belts on the bulletproof vest and one without them. Third version is with the belts and turns the shirt into a turtleneck, the fourth version adds some additional pouches and leg harness straps.

known bugs:
- full gear version has very noticeable clipping with the arms going through the pouches on her sides

I got the request to make this replace her trenchcoat too.
use either of these two small mods to give her the assignment ada costume over the trenchcoat
(note this small bonus mod works with any mod installed over the red dress)

I made some retextures of this costume for REsistance, so here's the one I like the most as an optional add-on for RE2R.
FBI Retexture for Ada:

this mod requires any of the base versions of the assignment Ada costume to be installed first. this mod is just the textures.

optionally replace the trench coat outfit with a variant to make it seem like she's wearing the coat over the Assignment Ada gear:

I still love the red dress and trenchcoat they gave her in RE2R.
they made Ada look very good in RE2R. I just feel like the outfit from RE4 this is based on is very underrated.
people more often pick her RE2 or RE4 red dress over this design.

maybe I'll make some changes to make this even closer to the original, but I'm pretty happy with how it is now though so *shrug*

I released the Assignment Ada costume, but I felt like it needed something more to be closer to RE4's. I tried adding some holsters to the top. (still a WIP)

Do you think it looks better with or without them?
I'm open to suggestions on this.
although I can't guarantee I'll take on every suggestion.

I also don't want to use the original RE4 model, as I'm trying to keep it high poly and the mod is supposed to be a reimagining and not a straight up RE4 model port

I always felt this costume was overshadowed by both the RE4 dress and the RE2 dress, when I think this outfit is really good too.

Yeah the stuff of the belt will clip with the arms when walking, but that's a minor issue I'm willing to overlook.
the polling/asking for feedback was to see if I should put more work in and make the version with the belts, but I appreciate the feedback still.

Maybe the RPD Uniform for Leon and Pop Star outfit for Ashley? Could explain why neither are in the base game.

Lil bro angry people enjoyed a well received game.

It would be a nice addition, though it might not click with people due to new Ada's subpar voicing.

Through its (near-)consistent excellence, innovation, and longevity, Resident Evil games have earned their crown as the king of survival horror. Capcom debuted its world of mutants and mercenaries in 1996 and has since grown Resident Evil into a multimedia franchise that spans over two dozen console games, six films, two recent Netflix series, novels, comics, and even stage plays.

It can be an exciting franchise to explore given the amount of content it houses, though for the same reason, it can be an equally daunting series to approach in 2024. This article focuses exclusively on video games and cuts out the convolution by presenting two ways to play only the most narratively significant and accessible Resident Evil games in order.

The 10 Best Resident Evil Games

How Many Resident Evil Games Are There?

There are 10 core Resident Evil games : RE 0-7, Village, and Code: Veronica. However, the total number of Resident Evil console games — including spinoffs and remakes — sits around 30. That number rises near 60 when accounting for mobile and pachinko games.

For this list, we’re focusing on 12 Resident Evil games: all 10 core entries and the two Revelations spinoffs. While many others are considered canon, this is not an exhaustive chronology, but rather an approachable guide to entering and enjoying the world of Resident Evil video games.

Missing from this list are mobile and pachinko games, light gun and Wii shooters (Resident Evil Survivor, Survivor 2, Dead Aim, Umbrella Chronicles, Darkside Chronicles), and non-canonical/non-consequential/difficult to access spinoffs (Resident Evil Gaiden, Outbreak, Outbreak: File #2, Mercenaries 3D, Operation Raccoon City, Resistance, Umbrella Corps, Re:Verse)

With series newcomers in mind, the brief plot synopses below contain only mild spoilers such as broad plot points and character introductions.

1. Resident Evil 0

Resident Evil 0 is the fifth game released in the series but the first chronologically. It takes place just before the events of Resident Evil, with Special Tactics and Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S.) medic Rebecca Chambers and former marine Billy Coen discovering a train full of zombies in the Arklay Mountains (home to the Spencer Mansion). Billy and Rebecca uncover valuable information related to series villains Albert Wesker and William Birkin. We also learn more about the origins of the sinister Umbrella Corporation and its deadly T-Virus. The game wraps with Rebecca headed toward the mansion, where she’d serve as a supporting character in RE 1.

2. Resident Evil

The first Resident Evil came to PlayStation in 1996, though for those coming to the franchise in 2022, you’ll want to play the 2002 remake (or its more recent HD remaster), as it improves gameplay and expands on the story.

RE 1 picks up right after RE 0. You play as one of two S.T.A.R.S. agents — Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine — who come to the Spencer Mansion while investigating a series of murders in the woodlands outside of Raccoon City. Chris/Jill encounters the murderous, mutated victims of the T-Virus and uncovers key information about Umbrella and its biological experimentation.

3. Resident Evil 2

Taking place two months after RE 0 and 1, Resident Evil 2 introduces two new protagonists — rookie cop Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield (Chris’s sister) — each with their own connected yet distinct campaign. RE 2 also introduces the recurring character Ada Wong and the iconic Tyrant enemy.

We learn more about William Birkin and his work on an even more threatening virus called the G-virus. Leon/Claire uncover more disturbing details about the clandestine work of Umbrella, as well as its ties to the Raccoon Police Department.

Resident Evil 2 is currently available to play for free with an Xbox Game Pass subscription .

4. Resident Evil 3

The chronology gets dicey with Resident Evil 3 , but for the sake of simplicity, we recommend playing it after 2. The first part of RE 3 takes place before the events of RE 2; the second part takes place after. You could play halfway through 3, pause, play through 2, then return for the second half of 3. However, playing RE 3 after 2 won’t detract from the experience or your understanding of the story. We chose to place it fourth on this list seeing as its conclusion progresses the overall narrative beyond RE 2.

You begin RE 3 as Jill Valentine, still coping with her experience from RE 1, trying to escape from an overrun Raccoon City. For part of the game, while Jill is indisposed, control shifts to her mercenary ally Carlos Oliviera. RE 3 also introduces Nemesis and reveals the fate of Raccoon City.

5. Resident Evil: Code – Veronica

Resident Evil: Code – Veronica advances the timeline by a couple of months and sees Claire Redfield continue the search for her brother Chris that began in RE 2. This time Claire’s search takes her to an Umbrella facility in France, where she escapes captivity and follows the trail to the southmost region of Earth.

Chris Redfield, one of the protagonists from the original game, returns as a second playable character in Code Veronica. Chris, like Claire, is looking for his sibling, and the search results in a meeting with series antagonist Albert Wesker.

6. Resident Evil 4

Resident Evil 4 , arguably the series' most beloved entry, puts players back in the shoes of Leon Kennedy six years after his time in Racoon City during RE 2. Leon travels to a rural village in Spain on a mission to rescue the U.S. president’s daughter.

There, Leon encounters a cult and explores its ties to a mind-controlling parasite. The story that unfolds weaves together the narratives of two characters from Resident Evil's past: Albery Wesker and Ada Wong.

7. Resident Evil Revelations

Resident Evil Revelations is set between the events of RE 4 and 5. It explores another consequence of Umbrella’s bioweapon development and introduces players to the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (BSAA).

Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield are now BSAA agents, with Jill serving as the game’s primary protagonist. The duo head to the Mediterranean to combat the use of T-Abyss, a new variant of the T-Virus.

8. Resident Evil 5

Resident Evil 5 is set five years after RE 4. Chris Redfield, as part of the BSAA, flies to Africa with his partner Sheva Alomar to prevent the black market sale of a bioweapon. The people of Kijuju, however, have already been infected with an enhanced version of the mind-controlling parasite seen in RE 4.

It’s a larger-scale story than past Resident Evils, though Chris also embarks on the more personal mission of finding his long-lost partner, Jill Valentine. We also learn of Albert Wesker’s latest nefarious plot.

Unlike past games in the series, RE 5 can be played cooperatively; the second player controls Sheva.

9. Resident Evil Revelations 2

Resident Evil Revelations 2 is set between RE 5 and 6. It brings Claire Redfield back into the spotlight for the first time since Code Veronica. The game is split into four episodes, with each episode divided into two parts: a past sequence with Clarie and Moira Burton and a present sequence with Barry Burton (Moira's father) attempting to locate them. The story introduces another antagonistic Wesker.

10. Resident Evil 6

Resident Evil 6 is an action-heavy adventure that tells an even more sprawling (and convoluted) tale than that of RE 5. It weaves together four campaigns starring Leon Kennedy, Chris Redfield, Ada Wong, and a mercenary named Jake Muller.

The BSAA introduced in Revelations plays an important role in 6, as the quartet of protagonists work to squash the bioterrorist group Neo-Umbrella and prevent the spread of yet another mutant-creating virus (the C-Virus).

11. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

With Resident Evil 7: Biohazard Capcom reinvented the franchise in several ways: It’s RE’s return to mass acclaim and fandom following the largely disappointing fifth and sixth entries, it introduces a new protagonist in Ethan Winters, and most notably it switches the series’ longrunning perspective from third-person to first-person.

Despite all these changes, RE 7 still exists on the series canonical timeline, presumably taking place in the modern-day sometime after RE 6. The game is set in rural Louisiana, with the first part taking place in the home of the wonderfully insane Baker family. Its ties to past RE games are rather loose, though many of the series staples are here: clandestine human experimentation, bioweapons, and toward the end, a familiar face.

12. Resident Evil Village

Resident Evil Village is a continuation (and the conclusion) of Ethan Winters’s story, set three years after the events of RE 7. Biohazard and Village stand on their own as a duology of games. Though Village includes a few more ties to the series’ past, including a more prominent role for the aforementioned “familiar face” and further information about the origins of Umbrella.

A post-credits scene extends the timeline even further. We’ll save the details, but those curious can read on to the next section for a bit more context.

Bonus: Shadows of Rose DLC

Picking up shortly after Village’s post-credits scene (16 years after the main story of Village), Shadows of Rose progresses the Resident Evil timeline further than any game before it. Assuming the events of Village take place in 2021, Shadows of Rose brings the franchise into the near future of 2037.

The 3-4 hour DLC stars Ethan’s daughter Rose, who attempts to rid herself of the unwanted powers inherited from her father.

The Future of Resident Evil Games

There's plenty to look forward to from this iconic horror series. In late 2023, Capcom confirmed they're working on more RE remakes, and some reports suggest Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica are up next. Earlier this month, Resident Evil 7 became the most recent RE game available to play on Apple devices . It's also looking pretty likely that the original Resident Evil game will be coming to PC in the near future.

Capcom isn't just looking to previous games, however. The studio recently confirmed that Resident Evil 9 is in development . Helmed by Resident Evil 7's director Koshi Nakanishi, it remains to be seen whether RE9 will bring back an existing character or introduce a new protagonist to take the place of Ethan Winters.

I wouldn't mind if capcom doesn't bring it back for the remake. Ive never felt compelled to play it more than once to be honest. It's nice added bonus content though just incase you felt like a speedrunning challenge. I thought it was a good mini-game with a very anti-climatic boss fight.
