How to Design a Great Presentation Cover Page
A cover page is a quick and easy way to add polish to your presentation. We'll cover a few tips for creating a great cover image, and we've got ten free PowerPoint cover image templates you can download at the bottom of the page.
The cover image sets the tone for your presentation—you don't want to dive right into the content—and is a great opportunity to start your deck off on the right foot.
What to include
Your cover image should include these basic facts:
- Title Short and sweet.
- Your contact information. Email or phone number
- Your company logo. It's all about branding.
Bonus tips:
Cobranding. Presenting to a customer? Add their logo to personalize the presentation.
Conferences. Including your Twitter handle is a great idea—you might gain some followers, and it gives your audience someone to tag when they gush about your awesome presentation.
Know your Audience
Consider how your audience will view your presentation deck (projected, on their laptop, or printed like it's 1995), and make sure that the scale of your design is appropriate.
If you're presenting at a conference, your type needs to be big enough to read from the cheap seats, and make sure you have enough contrast that the text is legible even if there's poor projector quality. You don't want your audience squinting at the screen before your presentation even starts. And remember—the title page will be what's on screen when you're getting ready—walking up to the stage, fixing your microphone, or just swallowing back the sheer terror of public speaking.
If you're emailing the presentation, make sure your cover image works well as a thumbnail. That will be the first thing your reader sees when she receives the file—and, let's face it, a better image is going to drive more opens than a boring one.
Know your brand
If you have an established brand, your cover image needs to reflect it. One of the biggest problems we see with decks out in the wild is when the creator goes off-brand and uses the wrong colors or typeface. Imagine how surprising it would be to see a presentation from Coca-Cola without their trademark red, or Facebook without their blue.
Cover Image Techniques
Now that we have the basics down, here are some techniques you can use make a well-designed cover image.
Stock Photography
The workhorse of cover images is stock photography—an attractive photo with plenty of negative space, then place your text on top of it. The trick is to find the right photo and make it work for you. Pexels is a great place to find free images you can use anywhere. When you're looking for stock photos, keep these tips in mind to help you find the right image.
Sometimes you'll need to do a quick bit of editing to make the image work for you. The important thing is to find an image that works in the background —one that lets your reader focus on your message, not the photo. These images tend to look boring all by themselves—you need to use a bit of imagination to see how it will work once you layer text on it.
Once you have an image, you can desaturate and tint it to give it better contrast for your text, or manipulate the image to give it more negative space, as you see below.
Typographic
Nice typography will take a you a long way, and it's something you can do in PowerPoint without any special tools. We're in a renaissance of great, free fonts. Take a look at this selection of the best Google Fonts from the always awesome TypeWolf for inspiration.
Using custom fonts can be tricky in PowerPoint. If you're having trouble getting your fonts to show up, take a look at this article . If you're sharing the PowerPoint with others, they'll need to have the fonts installed (we recommend always exporting your deck to PDF before sharing with customers to avoid font problems).
We all know PowerPoint isn't the greatest design tool—but it does the basics well enough, and you can use it to make a minimal design that works well.
Even though they're "easy" to do, with the right layout and sense of balance you can make a design that really sings with hardly any design elements.
Strong color combinations, simple shapes, and nice typography can yield a cover page that looks great without searching for stock images or opening Photoshop. Need a little help with color combinations? Check out Kuler from Adobe .

How to Design and Animate a Gorgeous PowerPoint Cover
Yousef "yoyo" abu ghaidah.
- June 27, 2018
We’ve done our fair share of PowerPoint cover (AKA front cover or title slide) tutorials on Slide Cow, but none of them showed the power and versatility of animation.
In this post, I’m going to show you the steps to design and animate a stunning PowerPoint cover. If you follow my steps to the letter, you’re going to get a slide similar to the one below in no time.
The Video Tutorial
Everything you need to know is in the video below. I’ve also summarized the steps in this post in case you need anything to refer to.
Step 1: Find a Picture for the Background
Every PowerPoint cover needs a high resolution , high-quality image to set the tone of the slide really, so go ahead and find one that appeals to you.
If you need a few resources where you can find such images for free, check out our list of websites that provide stunning stock images . Don’t forget to use the BARE principle when looking for the perfect picture.
Once you have an image that you can use, make sure it takes up the entire slide.
Don’t be afraid to play around with artistic styles and cool PowerPoint features either.
Step 2: Set Up The Slide
With a background image in place, it’s now time to bring in some text and shapes to the PowerPoint cover.
For my example, I went with a title, a sub-title, and a hollowed circle.
When you have all of your components on the PowerPoint cover, draw a clear line underneath them.
Warning: Technical Steps Ahead
This is the part where I explain something a little technical, and I strongly urge you to check out the video above because the text description doesn’t do this justice.
But let’s try anyway.
Duplicate the slide, and with your duplicated slide, delete everything except the white line.
Now, grab a rectangle and draw one just underneath the line so that the corners on the top barely touch the line, and the edges at the bottom barely meet with the bottom of the slide canvas.
When you’re done, hold the Control key and click on the PowerPoint cover’s background image and the rectangle, in that order . Then go to Format (Drawing Tools) > Merge Shapes > Intersect .
You should now be left with a segment of your background image. Copy it and paste it back into your original slide.
Now use PowerPoint’s Selection Pane tool (as shown in the video) to arrange all of your elements in this specific order:
- Segmented picture
- PowerPoint Elements (e.g. text, shapes, etc.)
- Background image.
Step 3: Animate
This is where you’re going to bring your PowerPoint cover to life!
The key here is to animate your elements so that they happen one after the other.
In my example, I first animated the line with the ‘ Split’ option.
I then animated the circle and text boxes with a smooth ‘Fly In.’
Finally, I used an exit ‘ Split’ animation for the line to bring the slide to a close.
Be aware: You need to tweak each animation manually to enable a smooth transition between the animations. The goal is to change individual values in duration, delays, and trigger points. I was very specific in the video, and I suggest you watch that to get an idea of how I do things.
How Does Your PowerPoint Cover Look?
Did you get similar results to mine? Did you run into trouble and need a little help? Let me know in the comments section below!
Very useful and clear, thank you.
You’re very welcome!
Hi Yousef All was going well and for the last hour I have not been able to find the merge intersect buttons?????
Can you tell me what version of PowerPoint you’re running?

Simple Cover Slide Design for PowerPoint
Make memorable presentations for various business reports with the Simple Cover Slide Design for PowerPoint . The creative intro design can be used to decorate business presentations, to break the monotony of information.
The cover slide can be found at the beginning of a professional PowerPoint presentation. It acts as an introduction to the report, by providing the title and other relevant details of the event. By giving this information, the audience can be informed of what the presentation is about, so they can properly highlight important points and facts for discussion. A cover slide is another form of giving a good first impression of the succeeding reports.
This PowerPoint template is a useful source for various cover slide variations in a consistent design. The slides can be used as a cover slide, to present the topic. The presenter can take the opportunity to give a short overview of the presentation, and allow the audience to settle down before beginning the report. Another use for the slides is as standbys during the question and answer session. During this period, the presenter can ensure that the monitor does not remain blank, while reminding the audience of the key topic.
The professional PowerPoint presentation template contains four slides, with two Layout variations. The first slide in both variations contains the term Welcome , while the second slide contains a text placeholder. The first variation features a collage of opaque and transparent PowerPoint squares that have been laid on top of each other to create an interesting diamond design. This can be found against a white presentation background. The second variation contains the same diamond design, with a violet background.
Create an informative start to any presentation using the Simple Cover Slide Design for PowerPoint . The presenter can edit the information on the slides and tailor them to his specifications. The size and position of the PowerPoint objects can be customized depending on the presenter’s needs. The presenter can combine this PowerPoint Shapes with any of the PowerPoint Template Backgrounds from the SlideModel Gallery.

20 Great Examples of PowerPoint Presentation Design [+ Templates]
Published: January 17, 2024
When it comes to PowerPoint presentation design, there's no shortage of avenues you can take.
While all that choice — colors, formats, visuals, fonts — can feel liberating, it‘s important that you’re careful in your selection as not all design combinations add up to success.
In this blog post, I’m sharing some of my favorite PowerPoint tips and templates to help you nail your next presentation.
Table of Contents
What makes a good PowerPoint presentation?
Powerpoint design ideas, best powerpoint presentation slides, good examples of powerpoint presentation design.
In my opinion, a great PowerPoint presentation gets the point across succinctly while using a design that doesn't detract from it.
Here are some of the elements I like to keep in mind when I’m building my own.
1. Minimal Animations and Transitions
Believe it or not, animations and transitions can take away from your PowerPoint presentation. Why? Well, they distract from the content you worked so hard on.
A good PowerPoint presentation keeps the focus on your argument by keeping animations and transitions to a minimum. I suggest using them tastefully and sparingly to emphasize a point or bring attention to a certain part of an image.
2. Cohesive Color Palette
I like to refresh my memory on color theory when creating a new PowerPoint presentation.
A cohesive color palette uses complementary and analogous colors to draw the audience’s attention and help emphasize certain aspects at the right time.

It‘s impossible for me to tell you the specific design ideas you should go after in your next PowerPoint, because, well, I don’t know what the goal of your presentation is.
Luckily, new versions of PowerPoint actually suggest ideas for you based on the content you're presenting. This can help you keep up with the latest trends in presentation design .
PowerPoint is filled with interesting boilerplate designs you can start with. To find these suggestions, open PowerPoint and click the “Design” tab in your top navigation bar. Then, on the far right side, you'll see the following choices:
This simplistic presentation example employs several different colors and font weights, but instead of coming off as disconnected, the varied colors work with one another to create contrast and call out specific concepts.
What I like: The big, bold numbers help set the reader's expectations, as they clearly signify how far along the viewer is in the list of tips.
10. “Pixar's 22 Rules to Phenomenal Storytelling,” Gavin McMahon
This presentation by Gavin McMahon features color in all the right places. While each of the background images boasts a bright, spotlight-like design, all the characters are intentionally blacked out.
What I like: This helps keep the focus on the tips, while still incorporating visuals. Not to mention, it's still easy for me to identify each character without the details. (I found you on slide eight, Nemo.)
11. “Facebook Engagement and Activity Report,” We Are Social
Here's another great example of data visualization in the wild.
What I like: Rather than displaying numbers and statistics straight up, this presentation calls upon interesting, colorful graphs, and charts to present the information in a way that just makes sense.
12. “The GaryVee Content Model,” Gary Vaynerchuk
This wouldn‘t be a true Gary Vaynerchuk presentation if it wasn’t a little loud, am I right?
What I like: Aside from the fact that I love the eye-catching, bright yellow background, Vaynerchuk does a great job of incorporating screenshots on each slide to create a visual tutorial that coincides with the tips. He also does a great job including a visual table of contents that shows your progress as you go .
13. “20 Tweetable Quotes to Inspire Marketing & Design Creative Genius,” IMPACT Branding & Design
We‘ve all seen our fair share of quote-chronicling presentations but that isn’t to say they were all done well. Often the background images are poor quality, the text is too small, or there isn't enough contrast.
Well, this professional presentation from IMPACT Branding & Design suffers from none of said challenges.
What I like: The colorful filters over each background image create just enough contrast for the quotes to stand out.
14. “The Great State of Design,” Stacy Kvernmo
This presentation offers up a lot of information in a way that doesn't feel overwhelming.
What I like: The contrasting colors create visual interest and “pop,” and the comic images (slides 6 through 12) are used to make the information seem less buttoned-up and overwhelming.
15. “Clickbait: A Guide To Writing Un-Ignorable Headlines,” Ethos3
Not going to lie, it was the title that convinced me to click through to this presentation but the awesome design kept me there once I arrived.
What I like: This simple design adheres to a consistent color pattern and leverages bullet points and varied fonts to break up the text nicely.
16. “Digital Transformation in 50 Soundbites,” Julie Dodd
This design highlights a great alternative to the “text-over-image” display we've grown used to seeing.
What I like: By leveraging a split-screen approach to each presentation slide, Julie Dodd was able to serve up a clean, legible quote without sacrificing the power of a strong visual.
17. “Fix Your Really Bad PowerPoint,” Slide Comet
When you‘re creating a PowerPoint about how everyone’s PowerPoints stink, yours had better be terrific. The one above, based on the ebook by Seth Godin, keeps it simple without boring its audience.
What I like: Its clever combinations of fonts, together with consistent color across each slide, ensure you're neither overwhelmed nor unengaged.
18. “How Google Works,” Eric Schmidt
Simple, clever doodles tell the story of Google in a fun and creative way. This presentation reads almost like a storybook, making it easy to move from one slide to the next.
What I like: This uncluttered approach provides viewers with an easy-to-understand explanation of a complicated topic.
19. “What Really Differentiates the Best Content Marketers From The Rest,” Ross Simmonds
Let‘s be honest: These graphics are hard not to love. I especially appreciate the author’s cartoonified self-portrait that closes out the presentation. Well played, Ross Simmonds.
What I like: Rather than employing the same old stock photos, this unique design serves as a refreshing way to present information that's both valuable and fun.
20. “Be A Great Product Leader,” Adam Nash
This presentation by Adam Nash immediately draws attention by putting the company's logo first — a great move if your company is well known.
What I like: He uses popular images, such as ones of Megatron and Pinocchio, to drive his points home. In the same way, you can take advantage of popular images and media to keep your audience engaged.
PowerPoint Presentation Examples for the Best Slide Presentation
Mastering a PowerPoint presentation begins with the design itself.
Get inspired by my ideas above to create a presentation that engages your audience, builds upon your point, and helps you generate leads for your brand.

How to convert text to PowerPoint
Want to use an existing doc to give you a jumpstart on creating your slideshow? We’ll show you a few ways to convert text to PowerPoint both online and on your desktop.
One of the best ways to get a jumpstart on creating a slideshow is by using existing content. You may have a text, Word, or PDF file that has the text you need for your slides. Using any of the three methods listed here, you can convert text to PowerPoint easily.
Note : If you use Microsoft Word on the web, you may notice an option to export the document to a PowerPoint presentation. However, as of this writing, the feature does not work consistently.
Method 1: Convert text to slides with Plus AI
Using Plus AI for Google Slides and Docs , you can upload a file or paste the text. So, you can use whichever is quickest or easiest at the time. Then, simply download the slideshow and open it in PowerPoint.
- Visit Google Slides , sign in, and create a Blank presentation.
- Open Extensions , select Plus AI , and pick New presentation with Plus AI .
- Select New presentation on the left and optionally, choose a template to get started.
- Pick Upload a file and then Choose file . You can use a Word, PDF, PowerPoint, or text file. Alternatively, click Paste in text if you want to go that route.
- Make any other adjustments you like and click Generate Presentation .
- When your slideshow appears, you can make any changes you like and also use Plus AI to add more slides, rewrite your content, or remix the slide layout.
- To download your presentation as a PowerPoint , go to File > Download and pick Microsoft PowerPoint .
You can then open your downloaded file in PowerPoint.
Tip : You can also enter a prompt or instructions and let the Plus AI create the content for your slideshow!
Method 2: Convert a Word outline to PowerPoint on the desktop
If you use Microsoft Office on your desktop, you can import an outline to PowerPoint using a Word document.
- Start by creating the outline for your presentation using the Outline View in Word. Go to the View tab and pick Outline in the Views section of the ribbon.
- Use Level 1 for each slide title and subsequent levels for the slide content. Using an example shown below, there are three Level 1 statements beginning with “How to” which will produce three sides. Then, each “Steps for” statement is Level 2 for the content on the corresponding Level 1 slide.
- Save and close the Word document; you cannot import it into PowerPoint if the file is open.
- Launch PowerPoint and create a new slideshow or open an existing one.
- Go to either the Home or Insert tab, open the New Slide menu, and pick Slides from Outline .
- Browse for, select the Word outline document, and click Insert .
You’ll then see your outline transformed into a PowerPoint slideshow where you can then spruce it up, add more slides, or make whatever edits you like.
Remember, if you want to intelligently transform text into a presentation, you can use an attractive template with Plus AI and save time from trying to enhance the appearance later.
Method 3: Convert text to PowerPoint with a file converter
One more way to quickly transform text into a PowerPoint slideshow is using an online file converter . By uploading a Word document, text file, or PDF, you can convert the text into a PowerPoint file and download it.
There are several free tools for this task including Convertio and CloudConvert. As an example, we’ll use Convertio.
- Visit Convertio and confirm you’re on the Online Presentation Converter page.
- Use Choose Files to upload the document from your computer, Dropbox, or Google Drive.
- When the file displays, choose PPT or PPTX per your preference in the drop-down menu to the right.
- Select Convert .
- When the conversion completes, click Download to obtain the file.
- Access the Downloads in your web browser or head to your Downloads folder and open the file.
You’ll then have your document converted to a PowerPoint presentation where you can adjust the appearance, change the slide size, and add media.
Depending on the format of your original document, this might not be what you’re looking for. In that case, you might want to use one of Plus AI’s free presentation converter tools that will intelligently use AI to convert your PDF or Word documents into presentations .
Alternatively, you can sign up for the Plus AI add-on and use all of these features directly in Google Slides.
If you want to convert text to PowerPoint for a head start on your presentation, these different methods should have you covered. For flexibility, templates, and editing tools, Plus AI is the perfect option, but you can also import a Word outline or use an online file converter if you prefer.

How do I copy text from Word to PowerPoint?
If you only want to add a certain portion of text from a Word document to a PowerPoint slide, you can simply copy and paste it.
Open both documents, select the text in Word, and right-click to pick Copy . Go to the slide in PowerPoint, place your cursor where you want the text, and right-click to pick one of the Paste Special options.
How to convert a PDF to PowerPoint?
You can turn a PDF into a PowerPoint presentation easily using Plus AI in Google Slides. Then, simply download the file and open it in PowerPoint.
In Google Slides, open Extensions > Plus AI > New presentation with Plus AI . Select Upload a file , choose your PDF, and follow the remaining prompts. Then, pick File > Download > Microsoft PowerPoint to obtain your presentation.
