Applications are invited  from eligible candidates for admission to Ph.D. for the Academic Year 2023-24 at National Institute of Immunology (NII), An autonomous research institute of Department of Biotechnology, Government of India New Delhi. Cutting-edge research at NII encompasses broad interdisciplinary areas of Immunology, Infectious and Chronic Disease Biology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Chemical Biology, Structural Biology and Computational Biology. 

Eligibility : Candidates should have  M.Sc. in any branch of Science (e.g. Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics) M.Tech., M.B.B.S., M.VSc., M.Pharm., Integrated M.Sc., or equivalent qualification as per the norms of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. Candidates should have At least 60% aggregate score or equivalent grade in Senior Secondary Certificate (10+2) and Bachelor’s degree and 55% aggregate score or equivalent grade in Master’s degree are essential for the general category.

Five percent relaxation in aggregate scores in Senior Secondary, Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees will be applicable for candidates from the reserved categories [(OBC (non-creamy layer; NCL), SC/ST, PwD and EWS]. Rounding off of percentage score to the next integral value is not permitted. C. Candidates appearing for the qualifying examination in the current academic year are eligible to apply; they will be admitted provisionally pending satisfactory fulfillment of the eligibility requirements at the time of joining. 

Selection: selection will be based on Computer-based Entrance Examination, NII-2023 to be conducted by NII at multiple centers across India on 26th February 2023 (Sunday) and Joint Graduate Entrance Examination in Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS-2023). Candidates must appear in at least one of the two examinations mentioned above. 

Candidates will be short-listed for an interview based on their scores in either NII-2023 or JGEEBILS-2023.The list of candidates short-listed for interviews shall be available on the NII website and Notice Board on or before 15th April, 2023.Interviews will be held online during 6 th - 13 th June, 2023. Candidates selected will be enrolled for the Ph.D. programme of NII in academic affiliation with JNU, New Delhi. 

Ph.D. Programme will start on 3 rd July 2023. B. NII currently provides Junior Research Fellowship of Rs.31000/- per month to the selected candidates. Awardees of fellowships from CSIR, UGC, ICMR, DBT or and DST, may avail them as per rules of the respective funding agency. 

Applications are submitted through NII online application portal latest by 20.01.2023. Application fee is Rs.1200/- for GENERAL/OBC (NCL) candidates and Rs.600/- for SC/ST/PwD/EWS (non-refundable).

Admission to Ph.D. Programme for the Academic Year 2023-24

National Institute of Immunology (NII) invites applications from eligible candidates for its Ph.D. programme. Cutting-edge research at NII encompasses broad interdisciplinary areas of Immunology, Infectious and Chronic Disease Biology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Chemical Biology, Structural Biology and Computational Biology.

NII PhD Admission Important Dates:

Eligbility Criteria:

A. M.Sc. in any branch of Science (e.g. Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics) M.Tech., M.B.B.S., M.VSc., M.Pharm., Integrated M.Sc., or equivalent qualification as per the norms of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi.

C. Candidates appearing for the qualifying examination in the current academic year are eligible to apply; they will be admitted provisionally pending satisfactory fulfillment of the eligibility requirements at the time of joining.

D. Reservations of seats: 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, 27% for OBC (NCL) and 5% for persons with disability (PwD) as per statutory norms. Reservation for EWS: The persons belonging to EWS who are not covered under the scheme of reservation for SCs, STs and OBCs shall get 10% reservation.

Selection procedure:

A. NII will select candidates for the Ph.D. programme through the following two Channels: Channel# 1: Computer-based Entrance Examination, NII-2023 to be conducted by NII at multiple centers across India on 26th February 2023 (Sunday).

Channel# 2: Joint Graduate Entrance Examination in Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS-2023). Candidates must appear in at least one of the two examinations mentioned above. Candidates will be short-listed for an interview based on their scores in either NII-2023 or JGEEBILS-2023.

B. The list of candidates short-listed for interviews shall be available on the NII website and Notice Board on or before 15th April, 2023.

C. Interviews will be held online during 6th- 13th June, 2023.

D. Candidates selected will be enrolled for the Ph.D. programme of NII in academic affiliation with JNU, New Delhi.

Ph.D. Programme:

A. The programme will start on 3 rd July 2023.

B. NII currently provides Junior Research Fellowship of Rs.31000/- per month to the selected candidates. Awardees of fellowships from CSIR, UGC, ICMR, DBT or and DST, may avail them as per rules of the respective funding agency.

C. NII is a residential campus and shared hostel accommodation will be provided to all the students admitted to the program

A. Candidates should submit their applications through NII online application portal only. The details of the application process are available at http://www.nii.res.in . Candidates applying through JGEEBILS-2023 must also submit an application through NII application portal, along with application fees.

B. Online application fee is Rs.1200/- for GENERAL/OBC (NCL) candidates and Rs.600/- for SC/ST/PwD/EWS (non-refundable).

C. Online application facility will be available at the NII website from 15th December, 2022 to 20th January, 2023.

Specifications regarding the documents to be uploaded

• The scanned image of photograph of applicant should be in .jpg/.jpeg/.png format and image size should be between 20Kb and 60Kb.
• Photograph should be passport size in which full face is visible and eyes are open. It should present full head from top of hair to bottom of chin. Background of the photograph should be of a light colour (preferably white). There should not be any shadow on the face or in the background.
• The scanned image of signature of applicant should be in .jpg/.jpeg/.png format and image size should be between 10Kb and 30Kb.
• The scanned category certificate/PwD certificate should be in .jpg/.jpeg/.png/.pdf format and file size should be between 20Kb and 200Kb.
• The scanned JGEEBILS certificate should be in .jpg/.jpeg/.png/.pdf format and file size should be between 20Kb and 200Kb.

Important Notes:

• Applicants must mention their correct & working mobile number and e-mail ID. One mobile number and one e-mail ID should be used for filling one application only. All information/communication by National Institute of Immunology will be sent on applicant’s registered mobile number and e-mail ID.
• Once the application form is completely filled, applicant should click on the ‘Final Submit’ button to save all details provided. Applicant may check filled application in the PREVIEW and modify, if required. Applicant will then be redirected to a payment gateway to complete the payment process.

Examination

• National Institute of Immunology will conduct a computer-based examination in multiple cities and centres across India.
• The examination pattern will be of objective type and the medium of examination will be English only. Candidates are encouraged to take the mock test which will be available on this portal on or after 10th February 2023.
• Duration of examination will be 90 minutes and total number of questions will be 60. Each correct answer will be awarded THREE marks. ONE mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.
• Based on marks obtained in either NII -2023 examination or JGEEBILS – 2023, candidates may be shortlisted for interviews to be held at National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi. Candidates are encouraged to appear in both the examinations.
• Site best viewed in Firefox 16+, Chrome 20+ and Internet Explorer 11 at 1024 x 768 pixels resolution and JavaScript should be enabled.

National Institute of Immunology Phd JRF Stipend

The NII Ph.D. Programme commences on January 3, 2023, and successful candidates who qualify for the NII Ph.D. Entrance will receive a Junior Research Fellowship with a monthly stipend of Rs. 31,000. Those who have been awarded fellowships from organizations such as CSIR, UGC, ICMR, DBT, and/or DST may utilize them in accordance with the regulations of the respective funding agencies. Additionally, all admitted students will be offered shared hostel accommodations as NII operates as a residential campus.

• For SC/ST/PwD: Rs.500/- (non-refundable)
• Computer-based Entrance Examination, NII-2022: A computer-based entrance examination will be conducted by NII at multiple centres across India on a scheduled date.
• Joint Graduate Entrance Examination in Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS-2022).
• The candidates who wish to join the Ph.D programme will need to appear in any of the two above-mentioned examinations.
• A list of the successful candidates in the examinations will be made available on the institute's notice board and website. Shortlisting of students for the interview will be based on marks scored in either NII-2022 or JGEEBILS-2022. Inter Final selection of the candidates will be done based on an interview conducted online on a scheduled date. The final list of selected candidates will be displayed on the Institute's website and notice board within a week of the final interview.
• Selected candidates will be enrolled for the Ph.D programme of NII in academic affiliation with JNU, New Delhi.

NII PhD Admission Program 2023-2024 Announced 

National Institute of Immunology (NII) invites applications from eligible candidates for its Ph.D. programme. Cutting-edge research at NII encompasses broad interdisciplinary areas of Immunology, Infectious and Chronic Disease Biology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Chemical Biology, Structural Biology and Computational Biology.

Eligbility Criteria:

A. M.Sc. in any branch of Science (e.g. Biology, Chemistry , Mathematics, Physics) M.Tech., M.B.B.S., M.VSc., M.Pharm ., Integrated M.Sc., or equivalent qualification as per the norms of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi.

B. At least 60% aggregate score or equivalent grade in Senior Secondary Certificate (10+2), Bachelor’s degree, and 55% aggregate score or equivalent grade in Master’s degree are essential for the general category. Five percent relaxation in aggregate scores in Senior Secondary, Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees will be applicable for candidates from the reserved categories [(OBC (non-creamy layer; NCL), SC/ST, PwD and EWS]. Rounding off of percentage score to the next integral value is not permitted.

C. Candidates appearing for the qualifying examination in the current academic year are eligible to apply; they will be admitted provisionally pending satisfactory fulfillment of the eligibility requirements at the time of joining.

Selection procedure:

A. NII will select candidates for the Ph.D. programme through the following two Channels: Channel# 1: Computer-based Entrance Examination, NII-2023 to be conducted by NII at multiple centers across India on 26th February 2023 (Sunday).

Channel# 2: Joint Graduate Entrance Examination in Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS-2023). Candidates must appear in at least one of the two examinations mentioned above. Candidates will be short-listed for an interview based on their scores in either NII-2023 or JGEEBILS-2023.

B. The list of candidates short-listed for interviews shall be available on the NII website and Notice Board on or before 15th April, 2023.

C. Interviews will be held online during 6th- 13th June, 2023.

D. Candidates selected will be enrolled for the Ph.D. programme of NII in academic affiliation with JNU, New Delhi.

Ph.D. Programme:

A. The programme will start on 3 rd July 2023.

B. NII currently provides Junior Research Fellowship of Rs.31000/- per month to the selected candidates. Awardees of fellowships from CSIR, UGC, ICMR, DBT or and DST, may avail them as per rules of the respective funding agency.

C. NII is a residential campus and shared hostel accommodation will be provided to all the students admitted to the program

Application procedure:

A. Candidates should submit their applications through NII online application portal only. The details of the application process are available at http://www.nii.res.in . Candidates applying through JGEEBILS-2023 must also submit an application through NII application portal, along with application fees.

B. Online application fee is Rs.1200/- for GENERAL/OBC (NCL) candidates and Rs.600/- for SC/ST/PwD/EWS (non-refundable).

C. Online application facility will be available at the NII website from 15th December, 2022 to 20th January, 2023.

F. Name of the candidate and the date of birth should match the corresponding entries in the Secondary School Certificate (10th) or equivalent.

G. Candidates must ensure that the information details furnished in the online application are true and correct. If any discrepancy is observed at any stage, NII reserves the right to cancel the admission.

Specifications regarding the documents to be uploaded

• The scanned image of photograph of applicant should be in .jpg/.jpeg/.png format and image size should be between 20Kb and 60Kb.
• Photograph should be passport size in which full face is visible and eyes are open. It should present full head from top of hair to bottom of chin. Background of the photograph should be of a light colour (preferably white). There should not be any shadow on the face or in the background.
• The scanned image of signature of applicant should be in .jpg/.jpeg/.png format and image size should be between 10Kb and 30Kb.
• The scanned category certificate/PwD certificate should be in .jpg/.jpeg/.png/.pdf format and file size should be between 20Kb and 200Kb.
• The scanned JGEEBILS certificate should be in .jpg/.jpeg/.png/.pdf format and file size should be between 20Kb and 200Kb.

The fee can be remitted in the following ways:

Through any debit/ credit card/ net banking/UPI using online payment gateway facility

Important Notes:

• Applicants must mention their correct & working mobile number and e-mail ID. One mobile number and one e-mail ID should be used for filling one application only. All information/communication by National Institute of Immunology will be sent on applicant’s registered mobile number and e-mail ID.
• Once the application form is completely filled, applicant should click on the ‘Final Submit’ button to save all details provided. Applicant may check filled application in the PREVIEW and modify, if required. Applicant will then be redirected to a payment gateway to complete the payment process.

Examination

• National Institute of Immunology will conduct a computer-based examination in multiple cities and centres across India.
• The examination pattern will be of objective type and the medium of examination will be English only. Candidates are encouraged to take the mock test which will be available on this portal on or after 10th February 2023.
• Duration of examination will be 90 minutes and total number of questions will be 60. Each correct answer will be awarded THREE marks. ONE mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.
• Based on marks obtained in either NII -2023 examination or JGEEBILS – 2023, candidates may be shortlisted for interviews to be held at National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi. Candidates are encouraged to appear in both the examinations.
• Site best viewed in Firefox 16+, Chrome 20+ and Internet Explorer 11 at 1024 x 768 pixels resolution and JavaScript should be enabled.

• A Junior Research Fellowship of Rs.25000/- per month is provided by the institute.

• Senior Secondary Certificate (10+2) and Bachelor’s degree with at least 60% aggregate score (55% for reserved category candidates) or equivalent grade, and 55% aggregate score or equivalent grade in Master’s degree.
• Appearing candidates for the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply.
• Such candidates will be admitted provisionally.

Reservation Criteria

The reservation will be given as per statutory norms as follows:

• 27% for OBC (non-creamy layer)
• 3% for persons with disabilities (PwD).

NII Ph.D Admission 2023 Application Form

The application form of NII Ph.D Admission will be available online at the official website (www.nii.res.in). Register to become eligible to apply online application form. Submit an application through the NII application portal, along with application fees. Candidates must be eligible as per the criteria mentioned above. Based on the scores in either NII-2023 or JGEEBILS-2023, the candidates will be short-listed for an interview. Candidates are encouraged to appear in both examinations.

Application Fee

• The online application fee is Rs.1000/- for General /OBC (NCL) Applicants.
• For SC/ST/PwD, the application fee will be Rs.500/-.
• The application fee is non-refundable.
• Online Application facilities will be available on the NII website.

Selection Process

• Candidates will be short-listed for an interview based on their scores in either NII-2023 or JGEEBILS-2023 .
• Candidates must appear in at least one of the two examinations mentioned above.
• A Computer-based Entrance Examination will be conducted by NII at multiple centers all over India.
• Joint Graduate Entrance Examination in Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS-2023).
• Candidates should appear in both examinations.

Interview Process

• The list of candidates short-listed for interviews shall be available on the NII website and Notice Board.
• Candidates will be enrolled for the Ph.D. program of NII in academic affiliation with JNU, New Delhi.

Doctoral Programmes

NIIT University (NU) invites applications to its PhD programmes. Work experience is not a criterion for selection. Candidates who are employed/sponsored by industry may also apply. Candidates are allowed to apply for pursuing PhD at NU throughout the year on a rolling basis. Selected candidates for PhD program are admitted both in odd and even semesters as per PhD admission calendar. Odd and even semesters start in August and January, respectively. NU will adhere to the National/State level reservation policy, as applicable.

Eligible applicants of all categories possessing the minimum educational qualifications are required to appear for an entrance examination conducted at the university. Candidates are allowed to apply for pursuing PhD at NU throughout the year on a rolling basis. Selected candidates for PhD program are admitted both in odd and even semesters as per PhD admission calendar. Odd and even semesters start in August and January, respectively. The candidates will be allowed for entrance examination in July whose applications will be received by 1st June, 2024.

Classification of PhD students

Depending on the mode and nature of support the PhD students at NU are classified as

• NU sponsored Residential PhD Student: Pursuing PhD in residential mode. They will get financial support from NU as per norms of NU PhD Scholarship and fee waiver.
• Sponsored Residential PhD Student: Pursuing PhD in residential mode and financially supported by any external agency.
• Self-Supported Residential PhD Student: Pursuing PhD in residential mode and financially supported by self.
• NU sponsored Non-Residential PhD Student: Pursuing PhD in non-residential mode. They will get financial support from NU as per norms of NU PhD Scholarship and fee waiver.
• Sponsored Non-Residential PhD Student: Pursuing PhD in non-residential mode and financially supported by any external agency.
• Self-Supported Non-Residential PhD Student: Pursuing PhD in non-residential mode and financially supported by self.

Eligibility for Admission to PhD Programmes

• Candidates should have at least 60% marks in Class X, Class XII and Bachelor’s degree.
• A one-year/two-semester master’s degree programme after a four-year/eight-semester bachelor’s degree programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed.
• A two-year/four-semester master’s degree programme after a three-year bachelor’s degree programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed.
• Qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed.
• Candidates, who have not the master’s degree, a four-year/eight-semester bachelor’s degree programme with a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed.
• The MPhil programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed.
• The foreign educational institution must be accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions.
• A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade in master’s or bachelor’s degree may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the University Grants Commission from time to time.
• A candidate who is already registered as a PhD student in any other Indian educational institute and fulfils the minimum eligibility criteria as listed in University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2022, may be transferred to PhD programme at NU. In that case, the student will cancel the PhD programme registration in earlier institute and will be registered in PhD programme in NU. The student will request for such transfer to Dean Research through the faculty member concerned.

How to apply

The applicant submits the duly completed Admission Application form along with self-attested copies of all the required documents and a self-written Statement of Purpose (SOP). The applicant can submit the application form at the NU website: NU Online Applicant Portal

Process for Admission to PhD Programmes

• Admission to PhD programmes shall be according to a merit list based on a written entrance test of 70% weight followed by a Research Interaction of 30% weight. NU may decide to call only some of eligible applicants for research interaction based on the number of available PhD seats and the merit list in the entrance exam. Dean Research will be responsible for the conduct of the entrance examination and subsequent interaction for selection of applicants for admission to the PhD Programme.
• Half of the entrance test syllabus shall be subject specific, and the other half shall consist of research methodology. The subject specific syllabus will be corresponding syllabus in the GATE exam for engineering and basic sciences and corresponding syllabus in the UGC-NET exam for management, humanities and social science area.
• Applicants who secure at least 50% marks in the entrance test are eligible to be called for research interaction.
• Applicants who have qualified for fellowship/scholarship in UGC-NET/UGC- CSIR/NET/GATE/CAT/CEED and similar National level tests as well as those who are employed at the level of Assistant Professor or higher in educational institutes in India will be exempt from the entrance exam. The position of such exempted applicants in merit list will be decided by considering only research interaction marks of all candidates.
• The entrance exam will preferably be held in person on NU campus. However, depending on the situation NU may hold the entrance exam online.

NU PhD Scholarship and Fee Waivers

• All registered NU sponsored Residential and NU sponsored Non-residential PhD students, who have at least 60% marks throughout from class X to master’s degree, will be eligible for NU PhD Scholarship. This scholarship will be for a maximum of five years or till the date of submission of final thesis, whichever is earlier. Students should maintain a CGPA equal to or more than 6.0 in course work in every semester and later on, are graded “satisfactory” in thesis research/Seminar credits per semester to remain eligible for this scholarship. The following are the schedule and terms & conditions:
• Financial assistance of INR 30,000/- per month will be provided during the course work and till the date of approval of thesis research proposal to the students who have an MTech degree.
• Financial assistance of INR 20,000/- per month will be provided during the course work and till the date of approval of thesis research proposal to the students who do not have an MTech degree.
• Financial assistance of INR 35,000/- per month will be provided after approval of thesis research proposal till the end of five years after first registration or submission of thesis whichever is earlier.
• Financial assistance may be increased to INR 40,000/- per month after three years of registration by Research committee based on performance.
• Time spent as registered student is considered for counting time for the purpose of financial assistance. If a student takes a break between two semesters, the break period will not be counted and the student will not be paid during the break period.
• The number of NU scholarships is limited in number and may not be awarded to all NU Residential and NU Non-residential PhD Students.
• Grant of NU scholarship will be at the sole discretion of NU and no disputes will be entertained.
• NU Residential PhD students may be exempt from paying university fees for a maximum of six years from the date of first registration if they assist to the extent of 4 to 6 hours per week in academic activities as teaching assistant.
• NU Alumni will be granted 50% waiver in University Fee.
• NU Employees will be exempt from paying university fees for a maximum of 6 years from the date of first registration. However, they will have to pay the full university fee if they cease to be employee of NU for any reason whatsoever.
