Legal duty to provide governance information

All maintained school governing bodies and academy trusts have a legal duty to provide all of the governance information requested on this page in so far as it is available to them.

This will increase the transparency of governance arrangements. It will enable schools and the department to identify more quickly and accurately individuals who are involved in governance, and who govern in more than one context.

The information requested says nothing in itself about a person's suitability to govern. However, it is essential information for the department to be able to uniquely identify an individual and in a small number of cases conduct checks to confirm their suitability for this important and influential role.

You should provide all of the information requested insofar as it is available to you. A minimum set of information needs to be provided before a record can be saved.

STAFF and pupils at a local primary school are celebrating after receiving an ‘Outstanding’ rating in their latest Ofsted report.

Hunningley Primary Academy, based at Stairfoot, were inspected by Ofsted in March – and were rated Outstanding in all areas.

In their report, inspectors praised the school for the ‘exceptional level of care’ that pupils receive.

Inspectors also highlighted the friendly and inclusive culture, supported by the ‘exemplary’ behaviour and attitudes of pupils.

Described as ‘kind, courteous and polite’, they have compassion for others and ‘want to make a difference to their community and the wider world’.

According to the report, pupils show respect for different faiths and cultures and demonstrate kindness and maturity in understanding the importance of treating people fairly.

Catherine Horton-Hale, principal of Hunningley Primary Academy, said: “I am thrilled that Hunningley Primary Academy has been rated ‘outstanding’ across the board by Ofsted.

“At Hunningley, we aim to inspire in our pupils a love of learning and to promote values of respect and kindness, so it is very pleasing that Ofsted recognised this in their report.

“I would like to thank everyone across our school community – including staff, pupils, and their families – for their hard work and support of Hunningley.

“It is your contribution which makes our school such a wonderful place to learn.”

Hunningley Primary Academy

Going “ above and beyond ” in primary education using an immersive classroom  .

Client:  Hunningley Primary Academy

Location:  Barnsley , UK

Date:  2023

Product:   5 x 5 - m etre immersive class room

When Hunningley Primary Academy was looking at ways to go above and beyond with its education provision, it chose to transform an underused utility space into a stunning immersive classroom.

This joint project between Igloo Vision and Aurora Immersive by Osborne Technologies brings together Igloo’s specialist immersive software with Aurora’s experience building multisensory immersive environments in the school sector.

And the immersive classroom is having a big impact on student learning. It’s used to enhance teaching across all subjects, for children aged 3-11, and has been part of Hunningley’s journey from being rated ‘Good and Improving’ by Ofsted in 2021 to ‘Outstanding’ in 2023.

hunningley primary school homework

“One of the reasons we got the room is because few of our children go to museums or galleries and there are many who don't have opportunities to leave the local area. With this space they can experience all sorts of things they wouldn't necessarily experience”

Miss Hughes Assistant Principal

The product

The Hardware –  The 5x5-metre immersive classroom at Hunningley has a three-walled display powered by six ViewSonic projectors and an Igloo Immersive Media Player (IMP) . The visual experience is enriched by further sensory controls including surround sound, a vibrating floor and scent machines, all controlled by Aurora’s command delivery application.

The Software  – Hunningley’s immersive classroom uses Igloo Core Engine , the operating system for immersive rooms, which makes it easy for partners like Aurora to build immersive rooms and education clients like Hunningley to use and benefit from them.

Staff at Hunningley control the space using two in-room devices, meaning teachers never have to leave the classroom to operate the immersive space. A wall-mounted, detachable iPad is used for everday control via the Igloo Control Panel app and the Canvas User Interface. And a separate monitor and keyboard is used to access the Desktop User Interface for advanced functionality.

The Content  –   One of the big advantages of Igloo Core Engine is the flexibility of the software, which is designed to display almost any type of immersive or traditional content on any display – including 360° video and specialist VR learning content. Hunningley teachers have been making use of Igloo’s native integrations for YouTube 360°, Google Streetview and Google Arts and Culture which give them access to vast amounts of curriculum relevant content, freely available on the web.

The result

When you walk into Hunningley's immersive classroom, it’s immediately obvious it's a cross-curricular space. The homescreen is full of ready-to-use content, divided up by subjects and year groups, from nursery all the way up to Year 6.

And because Igloo Core Engine is so easy to use, and there is so much relevant teaching content available online, teachers have found incorporating immersive learning into their curriculum incredibly straightforward.

Here are just some of the ways teachers are using the immersive classroom to bring their teaching to life:

  • Inspiring creativity in English literature – Hunningley teachers told us the immersive classroom is brilliant for generating ideas and creative language. Year-6 students, for example, used an immersive forest environment to inspire writing when studying Macbeth.
  • Communicating complex ideas in geography  –  Whether it’s a virtual trip to an erupting volcano or wind farm, Hunningley teachers have found that adding an immersive element to a topic can give students a much better spatial understanding of core concepts.
  • Visiting museums  –   Hunningley students have been using the Igloo to explore some of the thousands of digitised museums and galleries available through tools such as Google Arts and Culture.
  • Bringing history to life with 360 ° video – YouTube 360 is full of great history content and students have been learning about Vikings using immersive content made by National Geographic.
  • Preparing pupils for secondary school – Changing schools can be challenging for students, and Hunningley have been helping students with the transition by taking them on virtual tour of their new route to school using Google StreetView.
  • And loads more – Hunningley told us the immersive room had been used to show content on the Egyptians, Rio de Janeiro, castles, fairytales, earthquakes, aquariums, art galleries, places of worship, the Alps, the Portuguese coast.

Hunningley has found that the immersive classroom is having a huge impact on student learning outcomes. It improves student writing, makes it easier to communicate spatial concepts that are quite hard to understand, and keeps students engaged and curious about the wider world.

And Ofsted were also wowed by the immersive classroom. Inspectors observed a Year 3 lesson centered around a volcano eruption and were really impressed with how the technology not only enriched the curriculum but also enhanced the children’s learning.

Going forward

Hunningley are continuing to find innovative ways of integrating the immersive classroom into their teaching and have been looking at creating their own content using 360° cameras and exploring other specialist VR learning tools.

They are also working with their Special Educational Needs Coordinator to devise a programme of calming content which can help students with unique learning and behavioural needs.

And Hunningley plans to open its doors to other local schools so they can also benefit from the immersive classroom.

Testimonials

"The immersive room has brought a sense of awe and wonder to the children. It's a space they love learning in and I think it's just brought quite a difficult curriculum to life”

“The children love it. As soon as we say the lesson is in the immersive classroom. There's cheers and you can see the impact it has on pupil outcomes. The quality of writing is so much better and it broadens their understanding of concepts that are quite hard to understand”

“During our last Ofsted inspection, they observed a year 3 lesson on volcanoes and the feedback was really positive. They could see how the classroom enhanced the curriculum, the impact that it had on the children and how it improved their learning”

Macmillan coffee morning success

At the end of September Hunningley Primary School ran a Macmillan coffee morning to raise money for the fantastic organisation which helps to fight the battle against cancer. Here is some information about Macmillan from their website:

There are currently 2 million people living with cancer in the UK. By 2030 there will be 4 million. We want to make sure we’re there for all of them. One in three of us will get cancer and for most it will be the toughest thing we ever face. When you’re facing the toughest fight of your life, you need a team of inspiring people in your corner with you.

That’s who we are. We provide medical, emotional, practical and financial support and we push for a better cancer care system. We’re the team that gives you the strength and energy to face the fight and get through it.

A brief clip about what it means to have this womderful organisation http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Pwf9jBnKRgU

Hunningley Primary School raised £116.35 towards the fight!

A massive £8,411,247 was raised for Macmillan cancer support in September this year.A huge thank you to all from Hunningley and Macmillan

Welcome to a new year at Hunningley from Mrs Chojnowski

Dear families, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the Acting Head of Hunningley Primary and would like to welcome you back to a brand new school year. As many of you know, I have been lucky enough to work within school for the last three years and it is a pleasure to be able to take on this new role. It has been a busy summer holiday for the team at Hunningley. We have had a school full of builders, again, which has meant there has been lots and lots of mess. However, we now have an updated KS2 corridor with new ceilings, bright new lights and a new heating system ready for winter. Everyone in school has been working hard to make sure that the classrooms are welcoming and modern for all of you as learners. Every classroom has new chairs and we are excitedly awaiting the slightly delayed delivery of new tables to give our classrooms a fresh new look. We want all our children to enjoy learning in these spaces. Mr Bowley worked hard to create a school that we can all be proud of and although there will be a lot of changes over the next few months, as the school moves forward into its next phase, myself and all the staff want to assure you, that we will continue to build on all the good foundations already in place. I am an open and trusting person; I have high expectations of everyone I work with and will expect great things from each and every one of you. I want to strengthen the positive relationship Hunningley has between school and the local community and over the next few weeks I’ll be telling you how you can get involved in school life and help your child to be become an effective learner. The School Blog will be just one way you can find out more and see what is happening in school. Some changes that are already in place for the new school year are:- Assembly will now start at 9am. Please make that extra effort to help your children to arrive on time, so that they don’t have to walk into the hall late. This also means the schools doors will shut just before 9am. Please can I ask that after this initial settling in period can all parents leave children at the door so teachers can get children quickly into class. Your child will be receiving 2 hours of P.E. therefore can I remind parents that children need a full P.E kit in school all week. KS2 children will be outside throughout the year, so trainers and warm P.E clothes are necessary. Breakfast club will be every morning and is still a bargain 50p! We have a new member of staff joining our KS1 team, we’d like to welcome Miss Kirkland who is replacing Mr Lomas at school. Just a few reminders so that we’re all ready to start our new year as organised as we can be:- KS1 children are reminded that indoor shoes (pumps) are worn, (please remember slippers are not safe for school use). As our school is looking so much smarter I’m hoping our children can also all try to wear their smart uniforms, please look out for the uniform display in our entrance. I am looking forward to meeting many more of you this term and working with you to support your child’s learning. If we can support you in any way at all this year, do not hesitate to contact the school office to make an appointment.

Kind Regards

Catherine Chojnowski Acting Headteacher

WGS 84 coordinate reference system is the latest revision of the World Geodetic System, which is used in mapping and navigation, including GPS satellite navigation system (the Global Positioning System).

Geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) define a position on the Earth’s surface. Coordinates are angular units. The canonical form of latitude and longitude representation uses degrees (°), minutes (′), and seconds (″). GPS systems widely use coordinates in degrees and decimal minutes, or in decimal degrees.

Latitude varies from −90° to 90°. The latitude of the Equator is 0°; the latitude of the South Pole is −90°; the latitude of the North Pole is 90°. Positive latitude values correspond to the geographic locations north of the Equator (abbrev. N). Negative latitude values correspond to the geographic locations south of the Equator (abbrev. S).

Longitude is counted from the prime meridian ( IERS Reference Meridian for WGS 84) and varies from −180° to 180°. Positive longitude values correspond to the geographic locations east of the prime meridian (abbrev. E). Negative longitude values correspond to the geographic locations west of the prime meridian (abbrev. W).

UTM or Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate system divides the Earth’s surface into 60 longitudinal zones. The coordinates of a location within each zone are defined as a planar coordinate pair related to the intersection of the equator and the zone’s central meridian, and measured in meters.

Elevation above sea level is a measure of a geographic location’s height. We are using the global digital elevation model GTOPO30 .
