The Importance of Friendship

Friendships are a crucial part of living a fulfilling life..

Posted July 26, 2021 | Reviewed by Ekua Hagan

  • Friendship makes life more enjoyable and enriches one's everyday experiences.
  • Finding friends can be challenging but can be often achieved by approaching others with mutual interests.
  • The first criteria one should look for in a partner is someone who is ultimately a good friend to them.

As we move through life, we find that there are many things out of our control. We can’t choose our parents, our genetics , or control the things that happen in the world around us. One thing that we can control is who our friends are, and this decision can either make our lives so much richer and beautiful, or more stressful and disappointing. Today we’ll focus on how to choose friends who enrich our lives and make them more beautiful.

Why friends are so important

Having solid friendships is important for two main reasons. First, they make life more enjoyable. We get to share the beautiful aspects of life with people who we love, which can enrich our everyday experiences. Second, our friends help us through the difficult times. Having friends to support us through hard times can make unimaginably difficult situations seem more tolerable.

The most beautiful part about pouring our time and energy into friendships is that not only do friends help enrich our lives, but we enrich theirs too! Friendships get us through the tough times in life, make things more fun and enjoyable, and all-around make our lives better. I urge you to take stock of your friendships and ask yourself if your current friends people build you up and support you, or is the friendship more one-sided?

As we explore friendships today, these are also inclusive of our partners. I believe that the foundation for any healthy relationship is friendship. So it’s important to group our romantic partners into this conversation too.

So, where do we find friends? This might sound silly, but finding friends can be challenging! When I first moved to California for my Ph.D., I didn’t have any friends out here. There were quite a few people in my program that I enjoyed spending time with. But, towards the end of school, they became very busy and were no longer able to dedicate time to hang out anymore. Thankfully, through the help of a very good therapist, I learned that it was important to enjoy life instead of striving for excellence all of the time. As a result, I learned how important it was to carve out time in my life for friends.

Unfortunately, the people I had dedicated time to thus far were achievement-oriented and were pouring their time into work and not our friendships. This forced me to seek out other ways to form connections with people. I ended up finding a local hiking group with the hopes of meeting people with similar interests. During one of these hikes, I met Jim, one of my best friends to this day.

We became instant friends. We have continued to support each other over the years, and even more importantly, we always make time for one another. We both view the friendship as one that makes each other’s lives better, therefore it’s always worth the time and energy. The backbone of any successful friendship is one where both sides put in equal effort and support.

Both Jim and I were forced to put in more effort when he moved across the country to the East Coast. Because we already had such a strong foundation, this didn’t impact our friendship. We talk all of the time and see each other several times a year. We make the relationship a priority no matter what coast each other is on. Like anything in life that is valuable to us, we must work at it and put time and effort into it.

When it's time to move on from a friendship

The second part of the friendship discussion can be a difficult one — reassessing your current friendships and potentially moving on from friends who don’t add value to your life.

Two of my best friends from high school went down different paths from me. We still keep in contact, but I don’t spend too much time with them anymore. The supporting, loving part of our relationship wasn’t there anymore, so it was no longer worth putting energy into maintaining a friendship that had changed so much.

This may be a story you can relate to. What I hope you take away from this post is this — friendships take energy, time, and commitment. And if you’re putting your time and energy into someone who isn’t enriching your life and giving you the support you need, it may be time to reevaluate that friendship.

A happy looking cartoon is shown.

If you find yourself in the market for friends (who isn’t?) I recommend you find groups or activities that you genuinely enjoy. This way you’ll have the opportunity to connect with people who have similar interests. And once you’re there, take a risk! Talk to people, exchange contact information, and follow up with them. It may feel scary at first, but the reward outweighs the momentary uncomfortable feeling you may have.

Friendship and dating

In many ways, the most important friendship in our lives is the one we have with our romantic partners. The first criteria we should look for in this partner is someone who is ultimately a good friend to us, meaning that they are kind, positive, loving, and supportive. If we’re dating someone and they’re a jerk, it’s probably safe to assume that they’re not a good friend. To avoid this, I recommend seeking out someone who is a good friend first, i.e. before the romance and sexual stuff gets in the way.

When there are bumps in a friendship or a romantic relationship , it’s important to work through those tough times. The tricky part is that it will take two people to fix that issue. We can only control our actions and hold ourselves accountable, but we cannot control our friend or our partner's reaction. In addition to our own actions, we have control over the friends or partners that we choose in the first place. If we prioritize choosing good people who we can trust will work through issues with us, then we can work through anything.

Friendships are a crucial part of living a fulfilling life. It’s so important that we surround ourselves with people who we have fun with, who support us, and people who make us better. You may already have beautiful friendships in your life, but if you’re still in the market for friends, it’s never too late to cultivate new relationships that will make your life even more magnificent.

15 Prompts for Talking and Writing About Friendship

Questions to help students reflect on the meaning of friendship in their lives

best presentation on friendship

By Natalie Proulx

Who are your closest friends? How much do you share with them? Do you actually like your friends? What have you learned from them?

Below, we’ve rounded up 15 questions we’ve asked students over the years all about friendship. You can use them as prompts for writing or discussion, inside the classroom or out. We hope they’ll inspire you to reflect on your friendships, consider how you can strengthen the ones you have, and motivate you to reach out and make new ones.

Each prompt includes an excerpt from a related New York Times article, essay or photo; a link to the related piece; and several questions to help you think deeply about it. Many of these questions are still open for comment from students 13 or older.

You can find even more ideas for teaching and learning about friendship in our related lesson plan: How Students Can Cultivate Meaningful Friendships Using The New York Times .

1. Who Are Your Friends?

Do you have a “best friend,” a few close friends or a large group of friends? What interests, experiences, passions and circumstances forge those relationships? What are some of your favorite memories or admirable characteristics you associate with your friends?

Use this Picture Prompt to talk or write about your most important friendships.

2. How Alike Are You and Your Friends?

Did you know there is science behind how we choose our friends? Research has shown that we tend to befriend people who are much like us in a wide array of characteristics, including age, race, religion, even our handgrip strength.

In this prompt , you’ll read more about the things that bond us, and then share what you and your friends have in common.

3. Do You Have Any Unlikely Friendships?

Though we tend to connect with people who are like us, sometimes friendship happens with someone we’d least expect. That was the case for Spencer Sleyon, a 22-year-old rapper and producer from East Harlem, and Rosalind Guttman, an 81-year-old woman living in a retirement community in Florida, who met playing the Words With Friends game.

Do you have any surprising friendships like this one?

4. How Much Do You Share With Your Friends?

Do you often express your innermost thoughts, feelings and struggles to those closest to you? Or do you tend to keep those things to yourself? Being vulnerable can be scary, but research shows it’s important for building connections with others.

Use this prompt to reflect on what it feels like to open up to your friends, and how you might try to do more of it.

5. Do You Have Satisfying Friendships?

Are internet friendships as fulfilling as in-person ones? In a guest essay, a writer argues that “The kind of presence required for deep friendship does not seem cultivated in many online interactions. Presence in friendship requires ‘being with’ and ‘doing for.’”

Do you agree? Can online “friends” be true friends? Share your opinion.

6. Do You Have Any Close Friends?

Do you prefer to have many casual friends or just a few close ones? What makes a person a “best” friend? Do you wish you had more close friendships? This prompt explores these questions and more, as well as shares expert advice for developing deeper friendships.

7. How Do You React When Your Friendships Change?

Have you ever become less close to a friend over time? Have you ever felt jealousy when your friend joined another friend group? Have you ever had a friendship just fizzle out? These kinds of changes happen all the time, but they can be difficult to navigate.

Tell us what you do when you feel a friendship start to shift.

8. Do Social Media and Smartphones Make Your Friendships Stronger?

best presentation on friendship

Does being able to stay constantly in touch with your friends via social media, texting and location sharing strengthen your friendships and make them easier to maintain? Or does it do the opposite? Weigh in with your experiences on this prompt .

9. Do You Like Your Friends?

It may sound like a strange question, but a 2016 study found that only about half of perceived friendships are mutual. That means you might not even like someone who thinks of you as a best friend. And vice versa.

Is this is true for any of your relationships?

10. How Often Do You Text Your Friends Just to Say ‘Hi’?

When was the last time you texted, called, emailed or messaged a friend just to say “hello”? Research suggests casual check-ins might mean more than we realize. Do you underestimate how much your friends would like hearing from you?

Read what experts have to say and then share your thoughts.

11. Is It Harder for Men and Boys to Make and Keep Friends?

American men appear to be stuck in a “friendship recession,” according to a recent survey. Less than half of men said they were truly satisfied with the number of friendships they had. The same study also found that men are less likely than women to seek emotional support from or share personal feelings with their friends.

Does this reflect your experience? Weigh in.

12. Do You Have Any Intergenerational Friendships?

“When applying to my job, I had no idea of the friendships I would be making with 70+ year old women. They teach me new things every day while I hear their life stories and things they have done,” Laura from Ellisville wrote in response to this prompt.

Do you have any friends who are significantly younger or older than you? What do you think we can gain from these kinds of intergenerational friendships? Tell us here.

13. Have You Ever Been Left Out?

Imagine it’s a Saturday. All your friends told you they were busy, so you’re sitting at home, alone, mindlessly scrolling through Instagram. But then you see a post that stops you in your tracks. It’s a picture of all of your friends hanging out together — without you. This is what happened to Hallie Reed in her first semester at college.

Has something like this ever happened to you? Use this prompt to talk or write about how it felt.

14. What Have Your Friends Taught You About Life?

“My friends taught me different perspectives on life.” “My friends have taught me to not care what other people think.” “My friends have taught me to be myself.”

These are just a few of the responses teenagers had to this prompt. What have your friends taught you?

15. Have You Ever Had a Significant Friendship End?

Few relationships are meant to last forever. In a guest essay, Lauren Mechling writes that “even bonds founded on that rare, deeply felt psychic connection between two people” are “bound to fray.”

Have you experienced this with someone with whom you were once very close? What happened? Share your story.

Students 13 and older in the United States and Britain, and 16 and older elsewhere, are invited to comment. All comments are moderated by the Learning Network staff, but please keep in mind that once your comment is accepted, it will be made public and may appear in print.

3 Minute Speech on Friendship

Good Morning to one and all present here. I am going to present a speech about friendship. Friendship is one of the treasures that anyone can possess. God gave us the right to choose friends because they will be with us forever. Our parents and siblings are loving us as they are our own blood. But a friend is someone, who is initially a stranger. Then they take their place in our life above all the other relations. Friendship is nothing but true and pure love without expectations in return.

Speech on Friendship

Role of a Friend

True friends always support each other even during the hardest of times. A true friend is one who feels happy for our success, on the other hand, who feel gloomy for our failures. A true friend may criticize also so that we may come out of our weakness.

He may scold us if we do a mistake and guide the right path. That’s why it is being said that true friend is more precious than any gem in our life. Love from your friend will always be unconditional. They may expect nothing from us but shower their love always.

Friendship – A Divine Relationship

Friendship is a divine relationship, which is beyond the definition of blood relations. It is the only relation that is truly priceless. We may acquire all kinds of pleasures by putting our efforts. But even then life may remain dull, without having someone to share our life with some true friends.

It’s natural that human being always tends to find emotional support and social life. In spite of having everything in life, we may remain in a vacuum. It happens only when we have no such good friend to share our small and small happiness in life. Friends are always there to listen to us unconditionally.

Get the Huge List of 100+ Speech Topics here

There is no Second Chance for True Friendship

Friendship will provide us with thousands of fun moments in life which we may memorize in our old age. But side by side, with times this relation may have moments of crisis. A misunderstanding may crop in and this amazing relation may start weakening.

Always be the first one to save the friendship. God forbid, if due to some unfavorable reason distance ever arises within this relation, we must not let our friend go. Hold his or her hand and apologize for any mistake done. There is nothing more pathetic in anyone’s life than losing a true friend.

Friendship is a relationship that is like a newborn baby. Friendship is always pure and like a bundle of joy which only needs more and more nourishment to grow. Never ignore true friends or take them for granted. We may come across various people at different phases of our life. Many may pretend to be our friends but never go by outward glitter.

At last, I wish to say that a good friendship is very difficult to come across. Therefore, we should appreciate this divine relationship having a base on understanding and feelings. We just need friends to live happily. Lasting friendship is a blessing for everyone.

We don`t need to pretend to be someone else when we spend time with our friends. They give us total freedom to be who we are in reality. We should always be grateful to people who make us happy. A true friend is one of the most precious possessions in anyone’s life.

Speech Script: About Friendship

Good morning/afternoon/evening, ladies and gentlemen! Today, I stand before you to explore the beautiful and transformative concept of friendship. Friendship is a bond that enriches our lives, brings us joy, and provides us with unwavering support. In this speech, we will delve into the essence of friendship and discuss how to craft a memorable speech that captures its essence. Together, we will explore the key elements that make a speech on friendship impactful, inspiring, and relatable. So, let us embark on this journey of celebrating and honoring the remarkable power of friendship.

Table of Contents

Friendship Speech Tips

Understanding friendship.

Before we dive into the art of writing a speech on friendship, let us first understand the true essence of friendship. Friendship is a treasured relationship built on trust, mutual respect, and genuine care for one another. It is a bond that transcends boundaries, celebrates our similarities, embraces our differences, and provides us with emotional support during both our triumphs and trials. True friendship is a sanctuary where we can be our authentic selves, where acceptance and understanding abound.

Defining the Purpose and Tone

When crafting a speech on friendship, it is essential to define the purpose and tone of your message. Consider the occasion and audience for which you are delivering the speech. Are you speaking at a graduation ceremony, a farewell party, or a casual gathering of friends? Understanding the context will help you determine the appropriate tone—whether it be celebratory, reflective, or even humorous. Additionally, consider the main message you want to convey about friendship. Is it the importance of loyalty, the power of shared experiences, or the impact of support? Clarifying your purpose will ensure a focused and impactful speech.

Sharing Personal Experiences

One of the most effective ways to connect with your audience when speaking about friendship is by sharing personal experiences. Draw from your own life and reflect on memorable moments that highlight the significance of friendship. Whether it’s a heartwarming anecdote, a transformative journey, or a lesson learned, personal stories add depth and authenticity to your speech. By sharing your experiences, you create a relatable connection and inspire others to reflect on their own friendships.

Utilizing Emotional Appeal

To create an impactful speech on friendship, it is important to tap into the emotions of your audience. Friendship is inherently tied to our emotions, and evoking those emotions can help drive your message home. Use descriptive language, vivid imagery, and heartfelt anecdotes to paint a picture that resonates with your listeners. Whether it’s describing the joy of shared laughter, the comfort of a shoulder to lean on, or the strength of unwavering support, engaging emotions will leave a lasting impression on your audience.

Incorporating Inspirational Quotes and Literature

Quotations and references from renowned authors, philosophers, and poets can add depth and richness to your speech on friendship. Seek out quotes that capture the essence of friendship and amplify your message. Whether it’s Aristotle’s reflections on true friendship, William Shakespeare’s poetic musings on companionship, or contemporary authors’ insights, incorporating these literary gems adds credibility and showcases the universality of friendship. These quotes can serve as touchstones throughout your speech, reinforcing your main ideas and inspiring your audience.

Offering Practical Advice and Reflection

A memorable speech on friendship goes beyond anecdotes and emotions; it also offers practical advice and encourages self-reflection. Share tips for nurturing and sustaining friendships, such as active listening, open communication, and being present in each other’s lives. Encourage your audience to reflect on their own friendships, to reach out and mend broken bonds, and to cherish the connections they have. By providing practical guidance and fostering introspection, your speech can inspire meaningful action and personal growth.

Friendship Speech Example #1

Ladies and gentlemen,

Good morning/afternoon/evening!

Today, I stand before you to celebrate a timeless and precious bond that has shaped humanity since the beginning of time: friendship. Friendship is a gift that transcends borders, cultures, and generations. It is a bond that brings light to our lives, adds color to our experiences, and provides us with the support and companionship we need to navigate the ups and downs of life.

Friendship is a testament to the beauty of human connection. It goes beyond mere acquaintanceship and delves into the realm of deep understanding, trust, and shared experiences. A friend is someone who knows us for who we truly are and accepts us without judgment. They see our strengths, our weaknesses, and everything in between, yet choose to stand by our side through it all.

In a world that often feels divided, friendship unites us. It breaks down barriers, fosters empathy and compassion, and reminds us of our shared humanity. Through friendship, we learn to appreciate our differences, to celebrate diversity, and to embrace the richness that comes from engaging with people from various backgrounds and perspectives.

Friendship is a source of joy and laughter. It is in the company of friends that we find ourselves at ease, able to let go of our worries and simply enjoy the present moment. Whether it’s sharing a hearty laugh over a funny story, embarking on adventures together, or simply spending quality time in each other’s company, friends bring a sense of joy and lightheartedness to our lives.

But friendship is not just about the good times. It is during the challenging moments that the true strength of friendship shines through. Friends are there to offer support, lend a listening ear, and provide a shoulder to lean on. They offer words of encouragement, helping us find the courage to face our fears and overcome obstacles. In times of sadness or loss, friends offer solace and comfort, reminding us that we are not alone in our struggles.

To cultivate and nurture friendships, we must be willing to invest time and effort. It requires being present, actively listening, and showing genuine care and interest in the lives of our friends. It means being there for them in both good times and bad, celebrating their achievements and providing a source of strength during challenging times. Small gestures of kindness and thoughtfulness can go a long way in deepening the bonds of friendship.

In a world that is increasingly connected through technology, it is important to remember the value of face-to-face interactions and genuine human connection. Put down your phones, step away from the screens, and engage in meaningful conversations with the people around you. Take the time to truly listen, to understand, and to be present. In doing so, you will not only strengthen existing friendships but also create opportunities to form new connections.

In conclusion, let us cherish and honor the power of friendship. Let us celebrate the friends who have enriched our lives, and let us strive to be the kind of friend that we ourselves would like to have. May we continue to cultivate meaningful connections, to embrace the diversity of the human experience, and to uplift and support one another on our respective journeys.

Thank you for your attention, and may the bonds of friendship continue to inspire and illuminate our lives.

Friendship Speech Example #2

Today, I want to take a moment to reflect on one of life’s greatest treasures: friendship. Friendship is a beacon of light that guides us, a source of strength that uplifts us, and a tapestry of shared memories that weaves together the chapters of our lives.

Friendship is a gift that knows no boundaries. It transcends age, gender, race, and background. It is a connection that forms when two souls resonate with each other, when trust is built, and when hearts align. Whether it’s a childhood friend who has been by your side through thick and thin or a new acquaintance who has entered your life and quickly become an integral part of it, friendship has the power to transform and elevate our existence.

True friendship is based on a foundation of trust, respect, and authenticity. It is a safe haven where we can be our true selves, free from judgment or pretense. Our friends see us for who we are, flaws and all, and love us unconditionally. They provide a space where we can express our hopes, dreams, fears, and vulnerabilities without fear of rejection. In their presence, we can grow and evolve, knowing that we have their unwavering support.

Friendship is not just about the good times; it is also about weathering the storms together. It is during the challenging moments that the strength of friendship shines brightest. Friends offer a listening ear, a comforting embrace, and words of wisdom when life becomes overwhelming. They provide a fresh perspective, offering guidance and encouragement to help us navigate through difficult situations. With friends by our side, we are reminded that we are never alone in our struggles.

Friendship is a source of inspiration and personal growth. Friends challenge us to step outside of our comfort zones, to embrace new experiences, and to discover hidden talents and strengths within ourselves. They believe in our potential even when we doubt ourselves, pushing us to reach for the stars and achieve greatness. They celebrate our achievements with genuine joy, and their unwavering support fuels our drive to succeed.

In a fast-paced world where technology often replaces genuine human connection, it is important to prioritize and nurture our friendships. Take the time to reach out to your friends, to listen to their stories, and to create new memories together. Plan outings, organize gatherings, or simply have a cup of coffee and engage in meaningful conversations. Invest in the relationships that bring you joy and fulfillment, for they are the threads that enrich the fabric of your life.

In conclusion, let us celebrate the gift of friendship. Let us express gratitude for those special individuals who have touched our lives, who have shared our laughter and wiped away our tears. May we cherish and nurture these connections, for they are the foundation of love, support, and understanding. And as we continue our journey through life, may we always be open to new friendships, for each one has the potential to bring new meaning and joy to our lives.

Thank you for your attention, and may the bonds of friendship continue to grace our lives with love, laughter, and profound connections.

Friendship Speech Example #3

Today, I would like to speak about the extraordinary power of friendship—a bond that enriches our lives and shapes our very existence. Friendship is a testament to the beauty of human connection, a source of joy, and a pillar of strength in times of need.

At its core, friendship is a relationship built on mutual trust, respect, and shared experiences. It is a bond that transcends superficial differences and embraces the essence of who we are as individuals. True friends accept us for who we are, flaws and all, and support us on our journey of self-discovery and growth.

Friendship is a sanctuary where we find solace and comfort. It is a space where we can freely express our thoughts, emotions, and fears, knowing that our friends will listen without judgment. They offer a shoulder to lean on, a compassionate ear to hear our sorrows, and a kind heart to share our joys. In their presence, we feel seen, heard, and understood.

Friends are the companions who accompany us on life’s adventures. They are the ones who laugh with us, explore new horizons with us, and create memories that become the fabric of our stories. They bring lightness, laughter, and a sense of playfulness into our lives, reminding us to embrace the beauty of the present moment.

Friendship is also a catalyst for personal growth. Our friends inspire us to be the best versions of ourselves. They challenge us to step outside of our comfort zones, pursue our passions, and confront our fears. They provide honest feedback and constructive criticism, helping us recognize our blind spots and encouraging us to strive for continuous improvement.

In a world that can sometimes feel fragmented and isolated, friendship has the power to bridge divides. It fosters empathy, compassion, and understanding. Through our friendships, we gain exposure to different cultures, perspectives, and worldviews, broadening our horizons and enriching our lives. Friendship teaches us the value of acceptance, tolerance, and embracing diversity.

To cultivate and nurture friendships, we must be willing to invest time, effort, and genuine care. It requires active listening, empathy, and a willingness to be there for our friends in both good times and bad. We must celebrate their successes, support them through their challenges, and be a source of strength and encouragement when they need it most. Small gestures of kindness, such as a heartfelt message or a thoughtful gift, can go a long way in nurturing the bonds of friendship.

In conclusion, let us pause and celebrate the immense value of friendship. Let us express gratitude for the friends who have walked alongside us, bringing joy, support, and inspiration. May we continue to foster these connections, nurturing them with love and care. And as we move forward, may we embrace new friendships, extending our hearts and minds to create a world where friendship knows no boundaries.

Thank you for your attention, and may the spirit of friendship continue to illuminate our lives with love, laughter, and lasting connections.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, friendship is a powerful force that enriches our lives and shapes our very being. Crafting a memorable speech on friendship requires a deep understanding of its essence, purpose, and audience. By sharing personal experiences, utilizing emotional appeal, incorporating inspirational quotes, and offering practical advice, you can create a speech that resonates with your listeners and leaves a lasting impact. So, let us celebrate the beauty of friendship, honor those who have touched our lives, and continue to cultivate meaningful connections that will uplift and inspire us throughout our journey.

Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, for joining me on this exploration of friendship through the art of speechwriting.

How to Make a “Good” Presentation “Great”

  • Guy Kawasaki

best presentation on friendship

Remember: Less is more.

A strong presentation is so much more than information pasted onto a series of slides with fancy backgrounds. Whether you’re pitching an idea, reporting market research, or sharing something else, a great presentation can give you a competitive advantage, and be a powerful tool when aiming to persuade, educate, or inspire others. Here are some unique elements that make a presentation stand out.

  • Fonts: Sans Serif fonts such as Helvetica or Arial are preferred for their clean lines, which make them easy to digest at various sizes and distances. Limit the number of font styles to two: one for headings and another for body text, to avoid visual confusion or distractions.
  • Colors: Colors can evoke emotions and highlight critical points, but their overuse can lead to a cluttered and confusing presentation. A limited palette of two to three main colors, complemented by a simple background, can help you draw attention to key elements without overwhelming the audience.
  • Pictures: Pictures can communicate complex ideas quickly and memorably but choosing the right images is key. Images or pictures should be big (perhaps 20-25% of the page), bold, and have a clear purpose that complements the slide’s text.
  • Layout: Don’t overcrowd your slides with too much information. When in doubt, adhere to the principle of simplicity, and aim for a clean and uncluttered layout with plenty of white space around text and images. Think phrases and bullets, not sentences.

As an intern or early career professional, chances are that you’ll be tasked with making or giving a presentation in the near future. Whether you’re pitching an idea, reporting market research, or sharing something else, a great presentation can give you a competitive advantage, and be a powerful tool when aiming to persuade, educate, or inspire others.

There’s a Kim in every friend group. And if you organized the PowerPoint night, it might just be you.

4. Cringiest middle school photos

Take a gander down Facebook memory lane and find the most embarrassing photos of the friend group that still live on the interwebs. Warning: looking at these snaps may cause physical pain. (But it’s worth it for the lols.)

5. Your most-recent rabbit hole

If you’re anything like me, you can get sucked into rabbit holes on TikTok or Wikipedia—whether it’s deep-diving into some influencer beef or learning about a wild psychological phenomenon. Here’s your chance to put all that time you invested into the videos and surface-level Googling to good use and share your newfound knowledge with your friends.

6. The most iconic set of twins in history

This can be famous fraternals or just identicals that you went to elementary school with. Or, maybe you *are* a twin and you can make the PowerPoint all about you!

7. The best chain restaurant and why

9. Each friend’s celebrity lookalike

Forget about that one TikTok filter, you can do better. I wish I could see the side-by-side comparisons myself.

10. The makeup product you can’t live without

Everyone has that one go-to they’ve been using since like, senior year of high school. No gatekeeping here: let your friends in on your little secret weapon, and maybe even do a tutorial to show off all the goodness.

11. Ugliest outfit awards

Sometimes fashion risks don’t pay off. Look back through some of your old OOTDs (or digi camera shots from middle/high school/college) and pick out the cringiest of the cringe.

12. Guessing the last person each friend texted

If your friends all assume your last text was to your ex…it might be time to reevaluate some things.

13. Seeing the future

Pick a number—5, 10, 20, and 50 all work well—and decide what each friend will be doing that many years in the future. Look into that crystal ball, baby!

14. Which friend would die first in a horror movie

If you’re not sure, there’s a solid chance it’s you.

15. The house you would buy if you had $10 million.

It can be anywhere in the world, and it should definitely have a pool.

16. Coke vs. Pepsi

Don’t know what a beige flag is? Read this story to find out…and then think hard about the weird sh*t your friends do.

First, you explain the best selection of ingredients to put on a sandwich. Then, you share the best accompaniment to go with said sandwich (chips, apple slices, a brownie…you get the jist).

19. Why [insert celebrity crush] should choose you as their life partner.

You might as well shoot your shot in writing…maybe your friends will send the PowerPoint to their manager?

20. What each friend’s alternate career would be

Basically, each slide should go like this: “If [insert name] wasn’t doing [insert profession] they would be doing [insert thing they would thrive at].” And then explain why, duh.

21. The most iconic celebrity coupling

I urge you to dig reaaaal deep in the archives for this one. If you need some inspo, check out this lis t of celebrities you probably forgot dated in the 2010s.

22. Your favorite conspiracy theory

You know, just a casual list of must-dos for the winter, spring, summer, or fall season, depending on which one is coming up. All activities must be completed with friends, ofc.

28. Ranking cartoon characters by hotness

Some people have a thing for Larry the Lobster from Spongebob , and others can’t take their eyes off of Princess Jasmine. Both are normal and fine and understandable.

29. Your friends as Shrek characters

Cast everyone as all the creatures from Far, Far Away. This also makes a pretty solid group Halloween costume, just saying.

30. Ranking of who’s most likely to get the final rose on The Bachelor

You can predict the four hometown dates and then the eventual winner of the current Bach season (no looking at spoilers allowed!!).

31. The friend group trivia game

This is your chance to see if everyone in the group chat can answer the most obscure questions about each other. You can cheat by having each person submit the q's to whoever's making the presentation.

32. Predictions of who Pete Davidson will date next

There have been a lot of memes circulating feat. Pete with Meryl Streep, but it honestly could be anyone. Your job is to make a case for each one.

33. Explain that image

You can really have fun digging up the ghosts of social media past with this one: Pull random pics from v far back in everyone's Facebook history, if anyone still actually uses it (like we’re talking the Picnik days). Then each person in the group has to sit in the virtual hotseat and give details about who/what/where/when/why that photo was taken.

34. Hottest Disney Channel character rating

Pretty self-explanatory. All you have to do is explain why it's Cody Martin.

35. Everyone's worst ex

Soooo, this one could get a little bit heated, but it's a conversation starter for sure. It also requires knowing your friend group and its history very well (see the friend trivia PowerPoint first).

36. The most [insert zodiac sign] thing each person has ever done

Permission to lightly roast the Leos—I can say that since I am one—and Scorpios in the room. Be gentle with your Pisces friends, though.

37. Celebs who look exactly alike

If you've ever seen any movie with Margot Robbie or Samara Weaving in it, you probably just assumed they were the same person. There are enough of these doppelgangers to make a full presentation, trust me.

38. Beyoncé songs to describe each person

Someone's gonna be "Sorry" and someone's gonna be "Single Ladies" and that's okay.

39. When we peaked

A case study on the best collective time in your friend group. Feel free to use IG as photographic evidence.

40. Which American Girl dolls you'd all be

Every friend group has a Samantha.

41. Everyone's love language

FYI, no need to stick to "quality time" and the other classics. Chicken nuggets at 3 a.m. is a real one, too.

42. Superlatives, adult edition

Forget whatever superlatives you guys got when you were in school (if you were one of those cool people). Award each of your pals an adult version of superlatives, such as most likely to Irish exit a party, most likely to order takeout even after a full Trader Joe's trip, etc.

43. Your Euphoria high school outfits

This really needs to be done by a friend who has legit Photoshop skills, but basically you're swapping everyone's regular photos with a Euphoria high school look .

44. What reality show each of you should try out for

Maybe it's Love Island UK, or perhaps it's Project Runway or Real Housewives. W ho's to say?

45. Who each friend was in a former lifetime

For example, I was in the Salem witch trials (taking no further questions at this time). Perhaps one of your other friends was a badass bartender during the Prohibition, or in the crowd at the first Woodstock in a past life.

46. Who has the hottest parents

You might need to be careful with this one. But I know you already know the answer.

47. Where you should take your next group trip

The most efficient way to pick the next friend-cation.

48. Your favorite comedian and why

Come prepared with clips to show your friends why your comedian of choice is the funniest of them all.

49. T.Swift era explainer

Go ahead and decide which of Taylor's many album eras suits each person the best. You can be an “Anti-Hero” and still belong in the Lover era, I really believe that!

50. Rating your kiss list

This one is def one to save for a hang with your closest friends (you know, the ones who can already rattle off most of the names on your list). Maybe just do a top three if time is of the essence.

51. Celebrity freaky Friday

Is there a superstar whose life you think you could handle for 24 hours? If yes, present all of the chaotic choices you'd make in their famous body. Would you DM Paul Mescal during your day as Dua Lipa? Maybe wire money to your own account with Kim Kardashian's Face ID access? The world is your oyster.

52. Your friends as famous monuments

Some people have center stage Statue of Liberty vibes, while others walk through life with the Eiffel Tower's powerful grace. For each member of your crew, pick a major landmark that energetically aligns with them. Warning: Counterarguments are inevitable with this subject.

53. Big three cities

You know your astrological sun, moon, and rising signs ? For each of your friends, pick three cities that represent their vibes in different ways. Your crew's resident party girl is def a Miami rising.

54. Dissecting DMs

Only the brave will be open to taking on this subject, but it calls for you to critically analyze your game. Pull out the flirty dating app/DM/iMessage screenshots, and grade your lines based on creativity, effectiveness, and cringe level. It might get a bit embarrassing, but remember that you're among friends!

55. Things that don't make sense

This one is inspired by the legendary TikTok trend of the same name. Round up a few concepts that just don't click in your brain, and explain why they simply just don't work for you.

Bestiality references allegedly made during presentation at Renmark High School

A sign that says "Renmark High School" above an LED screen with some school news.

Warning for readers: This article contains graphic language.

The South Australian Department for Education is investigating a presentation delivered to year 9 girls in a regional high school that allegedly referenced bestiality as being accepted by the LGBTQIA+ community.

Female students said teachers at Renmark High School told them to leave their lessons and attend a presentation in a separate classroom.

Students who attended the presentation on March 22 say two staff from the Headspace centre in the neighbouring town of Berri introduced a "third-party" presenter who facilitated an hour-long presentation focused on relationships.

Parents said they were not notified about the presentation, nor was it consented to.

Students said they were left unsupervised for the duration of the presentation.

Student Courtney White, 14, said she felt confused and blindsided by the presentation.

"We had a teacher that told us to grab a chair and sit in front of the board, and then the Headspace people came in and then [the teacher] left, so then we're sitting in front of a board alone with no teachers, just the Headspace people," she said.

"The first slide of the PowerPoint on the board was 'You can see queerly now' and 'No point hiding.'"

A mother wraps her arms around her daughter. Both look solemn.

Girls felt 'really uncomfortable'

Fourteen-year-old Emelia Wundenberg said the presenter was graphic when referencing their own sexual preferences and spoke in sexually explicit terms about growing up and being confused about whether they idolised people of the same gender or wanted to be intimate with them.

Students say they were then given an explanation of the initialism LGBTQIA+, with each word and its meaning displayed on the screen.

"There was a slide for what the 'plus' means, and they just started randomly saying words that no-one knew, like bestiality," Emelia said.

"It was on the board when they were showing what the 'plus' meant."

The students said bestiality was then explained in detail and the presenter seemed to imply it was something practised by people who identified as LGBTQIA+.

"They said [the queer community] just accepts all of it, even though … isn't it illegal?" Emelia said.

As the talk went on multiple girls, including Courtney, began to feel uncomfortable and asked to leave the classroom to "go to the bathroom".

"We're all just sitting there like, 'What the hell? What are we doing here? Why are we learning about animals having sex with humans?'" she said.

"It was really disgusting, it was really uncomfortable."

Emelia said many of those who asked to leave the classroom did not return.

When the ABC sought comment from the presenter a response was sent on the person's behalf asking that reporters refrained from reaching out or naming them in its coverage.

A small, dark-coloured building bearing the lettering "Renmark High School Administration".

'Normal procedure' not followed

Letters seen by the ABC that were sent to parents on behalf of Renmark High School principal Mat Evans stated that the presentation was meant to discuss "respectful relationships".

The letter acknowledged that the school's "normal procedure for notifying parents ahead of specific presentations was not followed".

Mr Evans said the third-party presenter had "been suspended from department schools while the department undertakes an investigation".

"We are undertaking an internal review to ensure that processes around such notifications and procedures with regard to third parties attending at our school are always met," he said.

The ABC contacted the Department for Education, which provided a similar statement and said the presentation was being investigated.

SA education department chief executive Martin Westwell said the presentation was "unacceptable" and "shouldn't have happened".

Speaking with ABC Radio Adelaide on Thursday, Professor Westwell said conversations about sexual health, societal norms, stereotypes and sexuality were normal parts of the Australian curriculum, but the presentation at Renmark High School was not.

"The core idea that students should understand sexuality and other sexualities is, I think, really important — but the way [the presenter] went about it was unacceptable," he said.

"The school has clearly made some mistakes.

"There should have been a teacher in the room when that occurred, but there wasn't and the principal has apologised for that.

"They hadn't reviewed the content.

"There was a few things that went wrong and it ended up with this inappropriate language and a few things being discussed in that session that were just not appropriate."

Support being provided to students

Headspace's national head of clinical leadership Nicola Palfrey said the organisation was aware of concerns raised by members of the Renmark community.

"We take all feedback very seriously and are reviewing how we can support and guide Headspace centres … to ensure presentations they facilitate or deliver are aligned with evidence and best practice and are safe and appropriate for young people," she said.

FocusOne Health Board chair Ian Gartley said the "focus at Headspace Berri, operated under licence by FocusOne Health, is on the mental health and wellbeing of young people".

"We are aware of concerns raised by local members of the Renmark community following a presentation delivered by a lived experience speaker that Headspace Berri facilitated at Renmark High School," he said.

"Our priority right now is ensuring that any young people and their families who may be experiencing distress receive the support they need."

All parties involved in the alleged incident declined to provide the presentation to the ABC.

Following the presentation, a follow-up letter seen by the ABC was sent to parents offering counselling services from the education department, which had arranged a social worker to attend the school to help support affected students.

A teenager and her mother, both dark-haired, stand outside, looking solemn.

Parents express shock and outrage

Parents of students who attended the presentation said it was a poor representation of the queer community and had raised many concerns about the school's protocols for third-party presentations.

"Who vetted this material? Who made sure it was safe for 14- and 15-year-old girls? Some of them are still 13," Emelia's mother Kristy Fyfe said.

"It has done a huge disservice to the [queer] community."

Following the presentation, Courtney's mother Nicki Gaylard removed her three children from Renmark High School.

"My kids are in limbo," she said.

"They're not in an education department at this point.

"I'm not putting them anywhere until I know this won't happen again.

"Under no circumstances should a child in that school ever feel trapped and unsafe without someone with their certificate, meaning a teacher."

The ABC has spoken to five other parents whose children attended the presentation.

They substantiated the two girls' claims.

Two people with short dark hair smiling. They are both wearing dark T-shirts that says "Let's Talk About X".

LGBTQIA+ educators condemn 'slur'

Sexuality educators and LGBTQIA+ inclusion advocates Mel Brush and Eleonora Bertsa-Fuchs conduct consent and queer inclusion training for schools, parents and workplaces via their social enterprise Let's Talk About X.

Both are secondary teachers and Mx Bertsa-Fuchs said queer education was important but should be delivered in a safe and appropriate setting.

"The teachers are the people that these young people have a relationship with, that they are familiar with, that they're comfortable with," Mx Bertsa-Fuchs said.

"When you're in a vulnerable situation, like a respectful relationships workshop or seminar, there should be someone in the room that you are familiar with."

Mx Brush said the alleged use of the word bestiality in the presentation was damaging to the queer community.

"It's pretty shocking to think about that term being thrown around like that, especially given how loaded it is, and for a historical context of the way that it's been used as a slur and to discriminate against LGBT+ people," Mx Brush said.

In thrilling historical fiction, powerful women find their voices

Revisiting ella fitzgerald, marilyn monroe and mary, queen of scots.

Ella Fitzgerald, Marilyn Monroe and Mary, Queen of Scots, are among the forceful women highlighted in these stirring works that mix fact and fiction.

‘The Girls We Sent Away,’ by Meagan Church

After teenaged Lorraine Delford becomes pregnant, her parents abandon her to a home for what her father calls “girls like you.” On the drive, her parents force her to lie on the floor of the family car so neighbors won’t notice her condition. In this compassionate novel about loss and broken dreams, Lorraine and the other pregnant teens Church so lovingly creates pay tribute to the estimated 4 million women and girls banished to U.S. maternity homes in the mid-20th century. Many were forced or tricked into surrendering their babies, part of what’s become known as the “Baby Scoop Era.” Family and strangers condemned them as “loose girls” when they were often innocents tricked or pressured into having sex. The author vividly describes the austere institution where girls were deprived of education and left clueless about the birth process. The novel’s theme — about the trauma caused by victim shaming — will leave readers heavy hearted.

‘Becoming Madam Secretary,’ by Stephanie Dray

In 1933, after Frances Perkins is sworn in as the first female Cabinet secretary, a journalist asks her, “How should we address you?” “Miss Perkins is all right with me,” she responds, but the speaker of the House pronounces: “She will be addressed, hereafter, as Madam Secretary.” Dray’s portrayal of the exchange is a poignant reminder of Perkins’s unique place in history, and this portrait of the labor secretary’s remarkable life details her dedication to eradicating child labor, protecting immigrants and establishing social security programs. In this immersive, first-person narrative, Dray places us alongside Perkins as she works with President Franklin D. Roosevelt to pull the U.S. out of the Great Depression. Dray makes us privy to Perkins’s inner fortitude as she fights to solidify a legacy she knows will impact other women who want to work in government, even as she faces the wrath of men who, like one letter writer, demands she resign so that “a red-blooded HE-MAN” can take her place.

‘The Tower,’ by Flora Carr

The queer historical fiction genre is growing, and Carr’s worthy addition is a devastating portrait of what it was like to be a woman in the 16th century. Mary, Queen of Scots, was branded a murderer, a whore, a heretic; her beauty and fertility were held up as evidence that she was too sexual. Rebels locked her in a damp and dirty tower in Scotland’s Lochleven Castle for nearly a year and forced her to abdicate her throne. Through Carr’s lively re-imagining, we huddle with Mary and the women imprisoned with her as they plot an escape and recall with nostalgia the time Mary disguised herself as a man to freely walk the streets of Edinburgh. Meanwhile, the forced solitude of prison frees two of Mary’s companions to explore their sexual identity. Carr imbues this visceral story with the female empowerment that much of male-centric history lacks.

‘All We Were Promised,’ by Ashton Lattimore

In the years leading up to the Civil War, Philadelphia was home to thousands of free Black residents. Some were wealthy, like the family of Nell Garner, one of the three inspiring women at the center of this cinematic debut set in 1837. Nell befriends Charlotte Walker, who pretends to be the enslaved servant of furniture craftsman James Vaughn, even though she and James are hiding their true identities after escaping from their enslavers. Disregarding laws that punish people for aiding runaways, Charlotte and Nell conspire to help Evie, another enslaved woman, escape to the North. Draped in the history of Philadelphia’s thriving abolition movement, this superb novel shares edge-of-your-seat suspense with classic thrillers as the window to help Evie begins to close, endangering the lives of all three women.

‘Can’t We Be Friends,’ by Denny S. Bryce and Eliza Knight

Ella Fitzgerald was the “Queen of Jazz” and Marilyn Monroe the “Queen of the Silver Screen.” In this bittersweet confection of a novel, dusted with historical record and fact-inspired fantasy, their friendship comes luminously to life. Knight and Bryce build the novel around pivotal events: their traumatic childhoods and episodes in which the women clawed back against the husbands, boyfriends, record labels and movie studios that wanted to control them. Ella’s additional burden was racism; Marilyn’s was drug addiction. Ella is criticized for her plus-sized body, and Marilyn is deified and hated for her sexuality. Their powerful stories are told in alternating chapters that perfectly meld while paying homage to the power of their friendship.

Here's How the Kardashians — Including Kris Jenner — Are Connected to O.J. Simpson

O.J. Simpson was once considered Kris Jenner's "best friend" alongside his late wife, Nicole Brown Simpson

Kelly Wynne has been a TV writer at PEOPLE digital since 2021. Her work has been seen in Newsweek, where she acted as a reality TV and true-crime writer, Atwood Magazine and her mental health blog, The Chronically.

The Kardashian family has a long history with O.J. Simpson , and it started long before his double murder trial.

The former athlete, who died at age 76 on April 10, became best friends with famed attorney Robert Kardashian Sr. after the pair met in college. Through marriage, Robert Sr.'s eventual ex-wife Kris Jenner also became one of O.J.’s "best friends" — she previously told PEOPLE — as well as the best friend of his then-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson . The Kardashian kids even referred to them as "Auntie" and "Uncle" at the height of the family's friendship.

That relationship didn’t last forever, though — at least not for Jenner. When O.J. was accused of murdering Nicole and friend Ronald Goldman, Jenner took the side of her deceased friend. Meanwhile, Jenner’s husband Robert Sr. went on to represent Simpson in his double murder trial.

"Right before the trial started, Robert sat down and wrote us a handwritten letter and just said, 'Look, I know you don't agree with what is going down here, but this is what I have to do for my friend,'" Jenner said while appearing on a 2009 episode of Dr. Phil . "He believed in what he was doing and he was asking us for his support."

The murder trial seemingly split the Kardashian-Jenner family, with Jenner even sitting on Nicole’s side of the courtroom while her husband served for the defense. O.J. was acquitted of the charges, though he was found liable for the deaths and paid out millions to the victims' families.

Kim Kardashian — who is now pursuing her own law career — remembered taking her father’s side during the trial, while mom Jenner wrote in her 2011 memoir Kris Jenner ... and All Things Kardashian that Nicole had planned to inform her about the years of physical abuse she endured by O.J . before her death.

"We just always thought my dad was the smartest person in the world, and he really believed in his friend,” Kim told Rolling Stone in 2015.

Though O.J. was acquitted of the double murder, he spent nine years in prison starting in 2008 after he was charged with armed robbery and kidnapping. He was released on parole in 2017 after the minimum time served.

The relationship between the Kardashian family and O.J. dissolved following the trial and Robert Sr.’s death, but their names have remained intertwined in the media. Jenner previously shot down rumors that she had an affair with O.J. Some rumors went so far as to allege he’s Khloé Kardashian ’s true father.

“They printed a story that I was sleeping with O.J.,” Jenner said on a previous episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians . “That f---ing piece of s---. It’s really kind of pathetic that when rumors get started the media gives it life and breath and on the anniversary of Nicole’s death. It’s so tasteless and disgusting.”

O.J. died of cancer, his family confirmed in a statement on X April 11.

"On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren," the family's statement read. "During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace."
