Instead, stick that sucker right on the presentation folder itself like a badge of honor using folder slits . It’s the perfect finishing touch to make your paper folder both functional and fashionable.

Types of business card slots

There are several different card holder styles to choose from, each with their own unique qualities. You can see them all illustrated in our summary graphic at the bottom of the page.

Most business cards are horizontally oriented, so it’s clear that these are the slit styles you’re most likely to get use out of. Corner slits are more conventional and allow users to see more of the card’s design at once, while notch-style slits allow you to easily insert a card without bending it (at the cost of covering up portions of the card’s front).

Vertical business cards are less common, which opens up an opportunity for recipients to take notice of something unexpected. Much like horizontal slits, vertical holders are available in both corner and notch styles.

If you want your folders to accommodate a wide range of different business card designs, you might want to choose one of these slit styles—able to hold both horizontally and vertically oriented cards.

Things aren’t always black-and-white; you don’t necessarily have to choose from the standard slit options. If you know how to draw a line (and we assume that you do), you’re already capable of creating your own custom slits, because that’s really all it takes.

You can punch business card slots into your folder in nearly any shape you can imagine. For example, they can be sized to fit custom-made business cards or to ensure that crucial design elements aren’t accidentally covered up. But they work best when they create unique shapes that provide a sense of personality.

Just be careful not to get too creative for your own good—these slots still need to be functional. If you’re unsure whether or not your custom slit will actually hold a business card, get in touch with your printer. They can help you determine whether or not the slit is up for the task.

I really appreciate it that you could customize your corporate business card slots in your collaterals folder to make more lasting impressions on clients. My dad would surely love to get his done in the four-notch style so he could fit in his hologram name cards either vertically or horizontally. Instead of giving clients a hard time slipping in your card back into tiny slits, they could have it framed with four notches for that classy, non-traditional look.

I’m looking for folders that have 2 business card slots. One on each side. Can you please tell me if you carry those? And I’m also interested in putting a logo on the front of the folder. Can you tell me what this kind of folder would cost? I don’t need fancy. Just plain and simple with 2 business card slots and 1 logo at the front.

Are you aware of any slot punching tools out there that will allow me to punch 4 corner slots for business cards at home? Every search I’ve done only comes up with business card corner cutters and variations of other hole punchers.

The nearest product I’ve been able to find is the “Business CardPunch,” which only does 2 slots on opposing corners and seems a bit cheap.

DO YOU REQUIRE FOILING?

Do you require foiling on one or both sides of your folder, does each version use a common or different foil guide, how many areas would you like to foil, what type of foil would you like, what is the percentage coverage area you'd like to foil, how many foil colours do you require, does your foiling bleed over the edge of your print.

Chipping will occur if your foiling extends beyond the print's edge. We recommend adjusting your artwork, placing the foiling 1mm away from the print's edge for optimal results.

Standard Production

Express production, express+ production.

Silk is a beautifully white, coated stock which has a low surface sheen. It reproduces images and text to an exceptionally high print quality and vibrancy.

Our Uncoated stock has excellent whiteness, is incredibly smooth and luxurious. Uncoated stocks are perfect if you plan to write onto your printed product.

Requirements:

Self assembly is only available on 4-page folders with 1 pocket at a capacity of 0mm.

Self Assembly:

These folders are supplied flat and have a very simple slot mechanism which locks together, giving your folder a high quality, sturdy finish.

These folders come with a glue flap which secures the pocket in place and gives your finished product a quality feel.

The 2-pocket option is only available on glued, 4-page folders.

A 3mm, 5mm or 10mm capacity is only available when Folder Type is Glued. A 3mm capacity is only available when Size is A5+ (4 page). A 10mm capacity is only available when Size is A4+ (4 page).

When '2 pockets' and a capacity are selected, the spine width will be double the capacity, e.g. a 5mm capacity will have a 10mm spine.

Business Card slots are unavailable on 4-page, A5+ self assembly folders.

Business card slots are small, diagonal slits cut into the folder pocket, which allow you to fix your business card in place.

Double sided Lamination must be the same both sides. Lamination Inside can only be used with Lamination Outside. If lamination is selected on uncoated stock, all printed sides must be laminated.

Matt lamination:

A popular lamination which gives a very matt finish without dulling ink vibrancy.

Gloss lamination:

Creates a high-shine, glossy finish and makes printed colours stand out.

Soft Touch lamination:

Exudes a feeling of quality. Soft touch lamination gives a wonderfully tactile experience due to its smooth, velvety texture.

Anti Scuff lamination:

Offers extra protection against scuffs and finger marks while giving print a quality silk finish. This lamination is advised if you are printing with dark, solid colours like blue or black.

Metallic accents are great for giving a luxurious feel to print. All our foil options are metallic with the exception of Gloss Black and Gloss White.

Adds a shiny, gloss finish to specific areas of your print to give it extra visual impact.

Spot UV requires Matt, Soft Touch or Anti Scuff lamination.

Spot UV and Foiling adds 1 extra working day to production and is not available with express or express plus.

You will need to provide a guide for any Spot UV or Foiling. You must provide two PDFs of your artwork; one of your main print and one showing what areas you would like the Spot UV/Foil to cover. The areas you would like to Spot UV/Foil must be artworked in 100% black and must be exactly the same size and in the same position as your main image, so it fits directly over the top of it.

Can’t decide whether to choose a glued or interlocking branded presentation folder? Don’t worry. Here’s a detailed rundown of all the different options available, which will suit your needs better and which will work well for your budget.

Glued - This is our most affordable option. If you’re working to a budget, our glued presentation folders are ideal, and still do an excellent job of keeping your notes and work packed neatly together. You can fit up to 15 sheets of standard paper in this type of business folder and the finishing is extra sturdy thanks to the glue.

Interlocking - These personalised folders are a sleeker option, with the added option of a wider spine that’d allow you to fit up to 100 sheets of standard paper. Although a slightly more expensive option, these custom document folders are ideal for conferences where you’d need to supply delegates with a lot of information. They would also work well for presentations to clients where professionalism is the key to success.

What business folder sizes are available?

Struggling to decide on which size to choose? Depending on how you’re going to use your presentation folder, you’ll need either an A4 or an A5 one. There are a couple of things to consider when choosing the perfect option for you and here are some of our handy tips to help you along the way.

A4 Document Folders - A classic choice for an array of meeting types, A4 presentation folders are ideal for bringing along to presentations, pitches and more. Or, if you’re an estate agent business, personalised A4 folders allow you to hand out all the important info to prospective house buyers, including your business card, and make great property portfolios! You’ll have plenty of space to include all the notable points in documents up to A4 size for your contacts to take away and absorb the information. These folders are oversized so there’s no risk of your papers becoming crumpled.

A5 Presentation Folders - Smaller folders make excellent wallets for files A5 and under. They’re also a more affordable option if you’re planning a direct mail campaign; simply pop your marketing materials inside and send in the post!

You can fit an array of different flyers, cards and documents in these smaller printed folders that can be easily sent out in the mail. A5 folders are also a firm favourite to take to events and hand out to potential clients. Also, don’t worry about your documents getting creased as the folder is slightly oversized.

What finishing options are there for my custom presentation folders?

To add that extra layer of pizazz and a dash more professionalism, you can add a special coating to your presentation folders known as lamination. There are a number of different options available at instantprint; here’s a breakdown of the ones you can choose.

How to design your personalised A4 document folder

Designing and creating your own presentation folders is quick and simple if you have the right tools. By using our free templates online , you’ll have yours ready to send to our printing team in no time. We also have specialist templates available under each individual product; so if you are designing yours on PDF , Adobe Illustrator , InDesign or Photoshop , we’ve given you all the tools you need to get started.

When you start putting your own stamp to your custom presentation folders, make sure the bleed reaches all the way to the edges and completely covers the net span.

Top tip: Upload artwork that covers one whole side of the folder when laid out flat; it’s easier than designing each individual section! This helps to makes sure your folders are cut with a neat, sharp finish.

For A4 folders you should supply your artwork in a 454mm x 383mm document, or 332mm x 297.5mm for A5 folders.

Order Options Explained

• Printing (sides)

Our standard folder stock is 350gsm silk - this is perfectly adequate for most folders. We can also offer gloss for a shinier finish, or uncoated for a rougher feel.

For extra weight and stiffness, we also offer silk and gloss in 400gsm.

485 micron box board is only coated on one side, and is most suited for products which are printed on one side only.

Business card slots are available on many of our folders. Often there are several possible positions or sizes - these are shown on the PDF Template, which you can download from the relevant product page.

Lamination is an ultrathin plastic coating which helps to protect your folders whilst providing a professional finish.

We offer gloss or matt lamination for website orders. You can choose to have lamination to both sides, or to the outside only (front cover, back cover, spine and pockets).

For other finishes (e.g. spot UV varnish, foil blocking, soft-touch lamination) please contact us to request a quote.

We strongly recommend lamination for capacity folders. This helps to prevent cracking along the fold lines.

Please note, laminated finishes are resistant to ballpoint ink, so are not recommended for products intended to be written on.

Most of our folders come with the option of an adhesive foam dot, to hold a CD or DVD.

Folders may be printed outside only (one side) or both inside and out (both sides).

Outside only includes printing to the front cover, back cover, spine (for capacity folders) and pockets/flaps.

Please note, white does not count as a colour - white areas are simply left unprinted.
