TPG NBN plans review

Good value for money, especially if taking their phone and internet bundles but account management needs a fresh lick of paint.

4 out of 5 stars

While TPG dropped in performance in the ACCC’s broadband speed testing program, it offers straightforward NBN plans across a wide range of technologies but the provider is let down by its above-average pricing, barebones service, and some dated customer service channels.

TPG NBN plans: Value for money

  • Great speeds
  • Good mix of technologies and bundles
  • Lower than average prices

TPG’s crowning achievement was its top spot for speeds according to ACCC’s last broadband speed test reports , but since then has dropped to the number five spot in the latest ACCC rankings. That said, TPG’s self-reported speeds did managed to nab a 5-star score when we stacked it up against the competition.

For the many Australians still rely on a landline home phone connection, it doesn't hurt that TPG is one of the few providers that still offers phone bundles. TPG has home phone bundles with NBN and Fibre to the Building internet plans. You can choose to pay-as-you-go, or choose from national and international call options.

TPG NBN speeds

How fast is tpg nbn.

While the ACCC’s report isn’t the be-all and end-all for Australian broadband speeds, it's still a good indicator, and TPG's pole position is impressive. There are a lot of providers that the ACCC doesn’t track but every Internet service provider (ISP) from Telstra to TPG is still required to provide the typical average evening download speed you can expect. Here's what TPG is averaging.

Take a look at how TPG’s advertised typical evening download speeds for fixed line NBN stack up against the competition in the table below.

TPG NBN plans also cater to Fixed Wireless customers. Fixed Wireless is a faster and more affordable alternative to satellite broadband that’s available to select regional customers within range of an NBN Fixed Wireless tower.

If you're wondering what network TPG uses, its NBN is delivered via the NBN network. The TPG Group comprises companies such as TPG, Vodafone, iiNet, and Internode, and if you're looking for a TPG phone plan as well, TPG uses the Vodafone network for its mobile coverage.

TPG speed test

If you're already a TPG NBN customer and you want to rest your speed against the results listed above, you will need to run a speed test . That can be done is a few easy steps. First, make sure you're connected to your TPG WiFi network, then click the Start Speed Test button below. Give the test 10 to 20 seconds to complete, then compare the results with the speeds listed above.

TPG NBN: Perks and features

  • Home phone bundles
  • Mobile bundles

TPG is big on bundling. Like, really big on it. Every TPG NBN plan comes with a phone line whether you like it or not. If you choose not to use it, you won't have to pay a cent.

If you do choose to use it, you can opt for one of three voice add-ons: Oz Talk (unlimited local, standard national calls and calls to mobile) or Big Talk (same as Oz Talk but with 100 international minutes instead of mobile calls) for $10, or $20 for Extra Talk, which comes with all the inclusions of Oz Talk, along with unlimited international calls to 15 countries.

For residential customers, there aren’t many big perks so to speak. No customer benefits, like cheap movie tickets, or unmetered Spotify streaming, for example. But if you’re someone who likes to have all your telco utilities on one bill, TPG can do it all. That’s one huge benefit of being a TPG customer, you can have your broadband, landline home phone, and mobile plan all on one bill. But for that convenience, you will be paying for a TPG mobile service that’s more of an afterthought, rather than a competitive SIM plan .

If you’re looking for a provider that offers NBN, home phone, and mobile, your best option is still one of the big three: Optus, Telstra or Vodafone. Optus and Telstra come with plenty of perks, but Vodafone’s bundling discount makes it our top choice for broadband and mobile bundles.

TPG NBN modems

TPG used to be quite a stickler when it came to NBN modems. These days, new and returning TPG customers have a bunch of options to choose from. You can save money by going BYO, you can get a brand new modem for $0 (plus a $10 delivery fee) if you sign on for a six-month contract or pay $99.95 up-front (plus that same $10 delivery fee) if you want to go contract-free.

If you opt for the latter two options, you'll end up with one of these three preconfigured TPG NBN modem models :

  • TP-Link VR1600v
  • Huawei HG659
  • Huawei HG658

TPG also offers a $100 rebate to customers who pick up a compatible NBN modem within a 30 day period before or after signing up for a BYO modem NBN plan with the internet provider.

TPG NBN: Alternatives

  • 4G Home Internet (Fixed Wireless Broadband)
  • 5G Home Internet

If you want to test out the water when it comes to TPG but aren't ready to sign up for one of the provider's NBN plans just yet then a non-NBN internet alternative like 5G home internet might be the way to go.

TPG 5G Home internet comes in two varieties. You can find both in the widget below. While the cheaper price here makes this a competitive alternative to a traditional NBN connection, it is worth noting that you do have to be located in a suburb covered by the Vodafone 5G network to get service.

TPG also offers home wireless broadband plans , which are powered by the Vodafone 4G network. These don't offer the same speeds or low-latency that you'll get with 5G but they are more widely available and slightly cheaper.

TPG NBN: Support and satisfaction

  • Helpful and understanding customer service reps
  • Customer forum for FAQs
  • Dated account management

All things considered, TPG’s rapport with its customers is a lot warmer than the icy reception other providers cop on user review websites like Product Review, Google, and Facebook. There’s something to be said for that: TPG’s customer service in our experience has been helpful and understanding if you manage to navigate to the right team.

TPG is also one of the few providers that still offers a community forum, where customers can interact with each other and provide customer service for one another. It’s a great feature that a lot of providers don’t offer these days.

However, like a lot of TPG’s business, some of its support channels, and account management systems are in need of a dire revamp. At the time of writing, there’s no way to navigate to TPG’s live chat system. There are notices informing about extended wait times, but no obvious way to speak to a representative via live chat. A quick read over some frustrated forum posts suggests this a widespread issue and one that's primed to make any experience where your TPG NBN internet isn't working worse.

Lastly, there’s TPG’s account management portal online, and the My TPG app. Both systems are incredibly dated, and offer a limited breakdown of your service and billing. TPG scores points for having an app in the first place as not every provider does, but its usefulness is quite accurately reflected in the app’s user reviews on Google Play and the App Store.

Customer satisfaction is a tough nut to crack but Aussie Broadband and Mate are shining examples of top-notch customer service in Australia. As for account management apps, the Optus @Home app and My Optus apps , are some of the best, offering live chat, remote speed testing, and regular discounts and offers for customers.

Here are the most popular NBN plans from those three providers.

Compare TPG plans to other NBN plans

If TPG doesn't have the speeds you're looking for, another provider might. Check out the widget below for a round-up of popular NBN plans ranked by typical speeds.

Who owns TPG?

TPG is an Australian-founded and owned company, run by current chairman Canning Fok after the March 2021 departure of David Teoh. TPG actually started in 1986 as a computer parts and peripherals company but has since moved into offering internet and mobile plans .

TPG also has its own competitor to the NBN, a 'fibre to the building' broadband service that is available through many apartment buildings in some Australian cities. It's important to make sure that you're purchasing the right service for you - TPG's own broadband is different from the NBN that TPG also sells.

TPG NBN review

We lay out the pros and cons of tpg’s nbn plans.

TPG logo on purple background

TechRadar Verdict

TPG delivers solid, reliable speeds, and its affordable pricing makes its NBN 50 plans particularly good value. That value for money is lost among its fastest plans though, as its slower real-world speeds can’t quite match the competition.

Consistently reliable speeds

Why you can trust TechRadar We spend hours testing every product or service we review, so you can be sure you’re buying the best. Find out more about how we test.

TPG has long been a favourite for delivering well-performing, reliable speeds to its customers, and it typically beats out many well-known internet providers to rank towards the top of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s (ACCC) broadband reporting .

Its NBN plans are affordable, though they’re not quite as competitively priced as providers such as Spintel and Tangerine. We also feel TPG is let down a little by its fastest NBN plans , which sit in about the mid-range of what’s available in terms of speed and don’t offer quite the same value as the competition as a result.

When TPG merged with Vodafone Australia in July 2020, it became Australia’s third-largest telco, behind only Telstra and Optus. The merger was a way of bringing together TPG’s NBN network with Vodafone’s mobile network, and take on the dominance of Telstra and Optus in both spaces.

We’re going to take a look at overall performance, customer reviews and available plans to help you decide whether you should sign-up to TPG as your NBN provider.

Noteworthy TPG NBN deals

  • NBN 100: save AU$10p/m for 6 months (from AU$79.99p/m)
  • NBN 250: save AU$30p/m for 6 months (from AU$94.99p/m)
  • NBN 1000: save AU$30p/m for 6 months (from AU$114.99p/m)

TPG NBN pricing: is TPG good value?

  • NBN 12: AU$59.99p/m (average NBN 12 cost is AU$57.78)*
  • NBN 25: AU$64.99p/m (average NBN 25 cost is AU$66.32)
  • NBN 50: AU$69.99p/m (average NBN 50 cost is AU$74.97)
  • NBN 100: AU$89.99p/m (average NBN 100 cost is AU$92.27)
  • NBN 250: AU$124.99p/m (average NBN 250 cost is AU$121.18)
  • NBN 1000: AU$144.99p/m (average NBN 1000 cost is AU$145.77)

*Average cost of NBN 12 with unlimited data

As we’ve mentioned, TPG has historically performed well in the ACCC’s broadband reporting, recently beating out big names such as Aussie Broadband and Superloop in a measurement of average download speed.

Its NBN 12 , NBN 25 and NBN 50 plans quote maxed-out evening speeds – as many other providers now do – and their cost is reasonable, with the NBN 50 plan in particular offering the best value for most people.

Like many other NBN providers, TPG’s pricing does benefit those who bring their own modem along to the plan. If you do need a modem from TPG, you’ll need to pay an additional AU$99.95 setup fee, plus a AU$10 delivery fee when you first sign up.

As you’ll find in our noteworthy TPG NBN deals section, the provider does currently offer a six-month discount on its fastest NBN plans. You’ll be able to save AU$10 a month for six months on its NBN 100 plan , while you’ll get a discount of AU$30 a month for six months by signing up to its NBN 250 or NBN 1000 plans .

While the reduced cost of TPG’s NBN 250 and NBN 1000 plans are competitively priced, they’ll cost you slightly above average once the initial discount ends. If you’re looking for a better deal, we’d recommend checking out MyRepublic’s fast plans .

All TPG NBN plans compared

Performance and typical evening speeds.

  • Maxed-out typical evening speeds on NBN 25 and NBN 50 plans
  • Lower typical evening speeds on its fastest plans aren’t as good value
  • ACCC reporting shows majority of outages are quickly resolved

Keeping pace with most other ISPs, TPG offers a maximum typical evening speed of 25Mbps on its NBN 25 plan, and 50Mbps on its NBN 50 plan. Its NBN 100 plan currently reports a typical evening speed of 90Mbps, which lags behind Telstra, Optus and some other cheaper competitors such as Spintel.

Moving up to its fastest plans, TPG quotes a typical evening speed of 200Mbps on its NBN 250 plan, and 250Mbps on its NBN 1000 option. These plans sit just below the average of the typical evening speed available in their respective tiers, and given their costs, we’d argue their value isn’t as good as seen in TPG’s cheaper plans.

With that said, TPG does make up for these shortcomings by consistently delivering reliable speeds. In the ACCC’s most recent broadband report , which was released in March 2022, TPG beat out Aussie Broadband, Superloop and Vodafone in average download speed, during all hours and the peak period.

The ACCC’s quarterly report also monitors its pool of volunteers for outages lasting over 30 seconds. In its most recent update, TPG users experienced one of these roughly every 2.5 days, on average.

The better news is that while outages were somewhat frequent, they were often resolved quickly. Of all outages, just under 40% lasted between 30-60 seconds, with just over 10% lasting 10 minutes or more. The nature of outages means these figures can fluctuate over time, but we’ll be keeping you updated on TPG’s results.

Netflix also monitors performance with its own ISP Speed Index . It’s used to measure Netflix performance on particular internet providers during the prime time viewing hours, and TPG has held a consistently strong ranking since September 2021 (and only Telstra and Optus are ahead of it).

Customer support

  • TPG NBN technical support: 1300 997 271
  • TPG customer service: 1300 993 011
  • TPG email: [email protected]

TPG has a number of support channels for its NBN users. You can visit TPG’s support page for answers to frequently asked questions, or if you’d prefer to speak with someone, there are several contact numbers for a variety of inquiries.

The provider can also call you – to find this option, go to the bottom left hand corner of TPG’s NBN homepage and fill out your contact details. If you like to get your answers by direct message, TPG also has a live chat function on its site for a quick answer, or you can opt to email TPG on '[email protected]'.

TPG also maintains a community page , where TPG users can speak with each other and troubleshoot issues. There’s also a TPG mobile app for iOS and Android which allows you to manage your account and get support for your internet connection.

Most of TPG’s support is based in the Philippines, and it does not have support based in Australia. We’ve had some interaction with TPG’s support agents over email and live chat, and our personal experience has been positive.

TPG’s diverse range of customer support is commendable, but we’ve found ourselves dissatisfied with TPG’s online account management. Its user interface feels antiquated, and online account statements are difficult to understand. Similarly, while it’s nice that TPG offers a mobile app, it’s very limited in its usefulness, and has attracted low user ratings online.

As for customer satisfaction, TPG doesn’t have particularly great ratings on Product Review , while its rating on Trustpilot paints a more positive picture – in any case, we’d suggest taking these reviews with a grain of salt.

Optional extras and bundle deals

  • Phone line included with modem
  • Bundling mobile plan optional

Unlike Telstra and Optus, TPG isn’t big on optional extras, and you won’t find any added entertainment perks with its NBN plans.

You’ll have the option of using your own modem on TPG’s NBN plans, but if you’re in need of one, the modem TPG provides is Wi-Fi 6 capable and promises a straightforward setup.

If you want a modem included in your plan, you’ll need to pay a AU$99.95 setup fee along with a AU$10 equipment delivery fee. The only way to avoid this cost is to bring your own modem.

If you do want a modem included in your plan, TPG will also give you a phone line – an inclusion which is growing rather rare among internet providers. You’ll need to select a ‘voice add-on’ at checkout, so if you have no plans to use it, choose ‘pay as you go’.

If a home phone is something you’d like to use though, TPG’s got three options for you: there’s Oz Talk (unlimited local calls, unlimited standard national calls and unlimited national calls to mobiles for AU$10p/m), Big Talk (unlimited local calls, unlimited standard national calls and 100 international minutes for AU$10p/m) and Extra Talk (unlimited local calls, unlimited standard national calls, unlimited national calls to mobiles and unlimited international calls to 15 countries for AU$20p/m).

TPG also gives you the option of adding a mobile plan into your NBN bill, and plans start at AU$10 a month for existing TPG customers. In this way, TPG is a good option for those wanting a one-stop-shop, but there are much better NBN bundles out there if you’re willing to shop around.

For example, Vodafone also offers a discount for those who bundle together more than one plan, with savings reaching up to 20% depending on how many services you have. Telstra and Optus also offer a wider range of optional extras and added entertainment perks (though their ongoing cost can be higher).

Wi-Fi modem in home

Additional fees

  • Additional setup fees with included modem
  • No cancellation fee if you leave TPG

As mentioned above, getting a modem included in your TPG NBN plan comes with a AU$99.95 setup fee and a AU$10 delivery charge, but these costs can be avoided by bringing your own hardware. Getting a TPG modem also gets you a phone line from the telco, but you’ll only incur a charge if you use it.

Since all of TPG’s plans now come with no lock-in contract, there’s no cancellation fee if you decide to leave the provider, though do note that TPG requires 30 days notice.

However, there are some payments you could be subject to in certain circumstances. If you’re activating an NBN service for the first time in a new development, for example, there’s a fee of AU$300 no matter what ISP you choose, and if you change or miss an appointment, you’ll need to pay an additional AU$109.

TPG NBN FAQ

Can i get tpg nbn.

TPG provides NBN plans across all available speeds, from minimal NBN 12 plans right up to ultra-fast NBN 1000 options. When it comes to the NBN 250 and NBN 1000 plans, these speed tiers are only available to those who have a fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) or hybrid fibre coaxial (HFC) connection, as is the case across all providers who offer them.

Aside from NBN plans, TPG does also offer home wireless broadband and its own fibre-to-the-building (FTTB) tech, which is available in certain apartment complexes and is entirely different to the NBN. You can check if your apartment building has this fibre installed on TPG’s website .

How to check if TPG NBN is down

If you’re experiencing an TPG NBN outage, you’ll first want to figure out if it's just you, or if the internet is down for everyone in your area. We’d recommend visiting TPG’s service status page first, and if no issues have been reported there, you can check NBN Co’s website for wider network outages .

To do this, you’ll likely need to check using your phone, or another device with its own internet connection. If TPG’s own website is down, we’d recommend checking the independent site Down Detector . If you find you’re having connection issues that can’t be attributed to a known outage, call TPG’s NBN technical support on 1300 997 271.

For further help, we also have a dedicated guide to NBN outages .

You or an authorised person over 18 years of age will be required to be home on the day of installation for a technician visit. You will need to supply your own standard phone handset (approved for use in Australia) to use the TPG Voice service.

The installation of FTTB will disconnect the current copper-line telecommunications service that is connected to your premises but will not necessarily cancel any existing phone or broadband services. It is your responsibility to contact your existing service providers to ensure that unwanted services are cancelled, otherwise you may continue to be billed for them.

Where your address has multiple copper lines, the FTTB installer will confirm with you that the correct copper- line has been transitioned. Not all the devices and services currently using your copper-line phone and internet service will be able to operate over FTTB. This may include back-to-base alarms, personal response systems, fax machines, EFTPOS or your modem. Please check with your manufacturer or provider to see if the device or service is compatible with FTTB. We are responsible for your service up to the Network Boundary Point, which is your side of the Main Distribution Frame (the telecommunications frame typically located in your building's communications room/basement). You are responsible for all cabling and equipment beyond that point.

Typical Evening Speed

Internet speeds on this plan are variable and you will typically experience much slower speeds than the maximum connection speed available on your plan.

Typical Evening Speed: This is the typical busy period download speed that the average consumer can expect to receive between 7pm and 11pm. It is not a guaranteed minimum speed and you may experience lower speeds during this period. The actual speeds you experience will vary on a number of factors such the technology used to deliver your service, interference, customer cabling and equipment, download source, quality and distance of in- building copper, the number of devices connected to your network and the content you access. Devices connected by Wi-Fi may experience slower speeds than those connected by Ethernet cable.

Voice Services

TPG Voice Service is delivered using voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). The Voice Service supports fax to national numbers in the Telstra, Optus, AAPT and Primus PSTN network. Fax to international numbers is not reliable and VoIP based fax is not supported. The Voice Service does not support old dial up technology devices with built in modems such as EFTPOS, Back to Base Alarms and Foxtel Program purchase. These devices have been replaced by Internet Protocol (IP) enabled devices and many TPG customers are able to use EFTPOS, Back to Base alarms and Foxtel Program purchase through the internet provided that their devices are IP enabled. For further details on IP enabled devices contact your device supplier. TPG Voice Service also does not support analogue modems, Priority Assistance Scheme, calls to 19/1900, 0500 numbers and Universal International Freephone Numbers (UIFN).

The Voice Service requires a broadband connection and power to the Wi-Fi modem router supplied by TPG. If there is a broadband connection outage in your premises due to power or other faults, the Voice Service will not work and you cannot make phone calls including "000" emergency calls.

Once an FTTB plan is purchased, you cannot cancel either component (FTTB or Voice Service). Cancellation will cease both services. You cannot purchase either TPG FTTB or Voice Service as a standalone service. Your FTTB plan application will take approximately 10 working days to complete however in some cases can take up to 20 working days. Your FTTB plan application is considered complete once the service is installed at your premises.

At registration time, you can choose to port your existing number to TPG or have TPG supply a Direct Inward Dial Number (DID) for use with the Voice service. This number will be allocated to you based on the address which you provide us at the time of registration.

TPG will make use of your number as a reference point to charge for local calls. TPG will use its best endeavours to supply the Integrated Public Number Database (IPND) with your address details for the purpose of emergency services (000) calling.

M Bundle Included Calls:

Charges for calls are not included in the FTTB M Bundle. Calls will be charged on a 'pay as you go' basis, deducted from your Prepayment. See: https://www.tpg.com.au/fttb#TPG-Voice-Service-Call- Rates-fttb-ftth for pay as you go call rates. Calls to 19/1900 numbers are not supported.

L Bundle Included Calls:

FTTB L Bundle allows you to make unlimited Local Calls (excluding 13/1300 numbers), unlimited Standard National Calls to Landlines and unlimited calls to Standard Australian Mobiles. Calls to 19/1900 numbers are not supported. The 100 International Minutes per month included in the L Bundle can be used to call International Landline and Mobile destinations (excluding calls to satellite phones) listed on our International Call Rates page: https://www.tpg.com.au/international-callrates-fttb-ftth . Standard per minute rates listed on our International Call Rates page apply after the first 100 minutes of International Calls and for calls to satellite phones. Unused included minutes for international calls expire at the end of each month. Charges for calls made that are not included in the bundle (e.g. calls to 13/1300 and Directory Services) will be charged at listed TPG rates by deducting usage charges from your Prepayment.

XL Bundle Included Calls:

FTTB XL Bundle allows you to make unlimited calls to Standard Landline and Mobile numbers in 15 countries (Canada, China, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States), unlimited Local Calls (excluding 13/1300 numbers), unlimited Standard National Calls to Landlines and unlimited calls to Standard Australian Mobiles. Calls to 19/1900 numbers are not supported. Standard per minute rates listed on our International Call Rates page apply for International Calls to other countries and calls to satellite phones: https://www.tpg.com.au/international-callrates-fttb-ftth . Charges for calls made that are not included in the XL Bundle (e.g. calls to 13/1300 numbers, Directory Services and satellite phones) will be charged at listed TPG rates by deducting usage charges from your Prepayment.

This service is provided on the basis that you waive your Customer Service Guarantee (CSG) in relation to the FTTB Phone. You do not have to agree to the waiver, but if you do not agree, we have the right to decline to supply the service.

All TPG services are prepaid. You must pay the monthly recurring charges in advance, 7 days before the start of the next month. In addition, you must make a prepayment for usage that is not within the included value (if any) for the plan that you have acquired (“Prepayment”). Your initial Prepayment will be $20. After registration, you may nominate how much you wish to prepay but the minimum Prepayment is $20. The Prepayment will be debited from your nominated bank account or credit card. By acquiring and continuing to use the service, you agree to an automatic top up of your Prepayment. The top up will occur when the amount of Prepayment falls to below $10. When that happens, TPG will debit a sufficient amount from your bank account/credit card to restore your nominated Prepayment amount. If your usage is high, this can occur more than once per month. You authorise TPG to make such debits to your account/credit card.

If you do not exceed the Included Value and do not incur any charges that are excluded from your plan, there will be no automatic top-ups. We will send you messages about your usage and the debits during the month. Your service will become inactive if our attempts to debit credit card/bank account to top up your Prepayment are unsuccessful. If you do not use the Prepayment, it will be forfeited to us when you cancel the service. You agree that no bill will be provided for this service and that direct debiting of your account or charge to your credit card may occur notwithstanding that no bill is provided and that it may occur even though you may not have had the opportunity to check charges at least 10 working days before the debit.

FTTB detailed diagram

Phone Number & Porting

I have an active phone service. can i transfer my existing phone number across.

You can port (transfer) your phone number from Telstra, Optus, AAPT, Primus or Powertel to TPG. We may not be able to port your number in all circumstances, including where you fail to provide correct account details, or as a result of contractual obligations with your existing provider. If you are porting your number to TPG inbound calling to your number will not commence until porting is complete which will take a further 1 to 5 business days.

What is a DID number?

DID stands for Direct-In-Dial. If you choose or will be given a new phone number by TPG, TPG will assign a new DID phone number to you based on the address you will have installed the FTTB service. It is in a similar format to your existing telephone number ‹10 digit number›.

Can I choose my DID phone number?

No. If you have chosen to receive or will be receiving a new number from TPG, your phone number will automatically be assigned to you based on the address provided for the installation.

Will TPG deliver the FTTB service to an existing phone wall socket in my premises?

Can i use my existing telephone handset and phone wall socket for the tpg voice service.

You can use your current telephone handset, however it will have to be plugged into the VoIP port on the supplied Wi-Fi Modem Router using a standard telephone cable.

To be able to port my number, what information do I need to provide?

You will need to provide your current Account Number provided by your current phone provider. This can be found on any bill you receive from your phone provider for your phone service. Providing an incorrect Account Number may result in delays with the porting process and lengthen the period in which you will not be able to receive any incoming phone calls.

Can I keep the phone number assigned by TPG when I no longer want to have the TPG Voice service with TPG?

You need to check with the new or gaining provider if they are able to port from TPG.

While my phone number is being ported to TPG, can I still make outgoing calls?

Yes, as soon as TPG FTTB Bundle service has been installed, you will be able to make outgoing calls from your TPG Voice service. TPG will charge you for any call usage. However, inbound calling to your number will not commence on the TPG Voice service until porting is completed which will take an additional 1 to 5 business days after your TPG FTTB service is installed.

What is TPG Voice service and how reliable is this service?

TPG Voice is delivered using Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). It works similar to a standard home phone. It is delivered via TPG's own network so you can expect a high quality of service and enjoy great call rates and super fast FTTB broadband on a single connection.

Once the TPG Voice service is installed, are there any services that will not work on my line?

TPG Voice does not support old dial up technology devices with built in modems such as EFTPOS, Back to Base Alarms and Foxtel Program purchase.

Can I watch Foxtel if I have TPG FTTB Service?

Yes, watching regular Foxtel programs is not affected by TPG FTTB service. Regular Foxtel programs use an entirely separate connection from your FTTB or TPG Voice connection.

Does Foxtel on Demand or program purchase work with TPG FTTB service?

If you have the latest Foxtel set top box, you can purchase and download programs using the Ethernet connection in the set top box to connect via TPG FTTB. This is even better if you have TPG Unlimited FTTB plan as you do not have to worry about your Broadband monthly usage quota when you download Foxtel on Demand programs.

Once I register for FTTB Bundle, can I cancel the FTTB or TPG Voice component?

No, FTTB or TPG Voice cannot be cancelled separately. Since FTTB is a bundle plan, cancellation will cease both services.

Can I have TPG's Voice Service only (without FTTB)?

No, TPG Voice Service can only be ordered as a bundle with FTTB.

Do I need to call my current provider to cancel my existing home phone service or Internet?

Once the FTTB service has been activated, if you currently have any existing services like phone or internet at your premises, you will need to contact your current provider to have these services cancelled to ensure you do not receive any further bills. TPG recommends you check with your current phone and/or internet service provider regarding contractual commitments and termination/disconnection fees associated with your current services. TPG is not responsible for these charges. If you are also porting your existing phone number to TPG, do not cancel your phone service until the number has been ported.

Usage and Charges

How am i charged for tpg fttb bundle plans.

Monthly access charges are billed monthly in advance.

Prepayment: All TPG services are prepaid. You must pay the monthly recurring charges in advance. In addition, you must make a prepayment for usage that is not within the included value (if any) for the plan that you have acquired. Your initial prepayment will be $20.

For a complete list of call rates click here .

Can I call emergency numbers with my TPG Voice Service?

Yes, with TPG Voice Service you are able to call 000. If there is a broadband connection outage in your premises due to power or other faults, the TPG Voice service will not work and you cannot make phone calls including "000" emergency calls.

Best NBN 100 plans: compare your options for fast NBN

One telco rules the NBN 100 roost — is it the right choice for you?

NBN logo over light trail on road

Best NBN 100 plans

Best nbn 100/40 plans, best nbn 100 plans: major nbn providers, nbn 100 faq.

Some of the best NBN 100 plans provide Australian households and businesses with an easy and inexpensive way to connect online without compromising on speed. Here at Tom's Guide, we think it's best to shop around to find a great deal, and there's no exception to this rule when looking for a great home internet plan.

According to NBN Co , 100Mbps download speeds are theoretically the highest achievable by all NBN connection types, including depreciating fibre-to-the-node (FTTN) connections. Most telcos in Australia offer NBN 100 plans, and for those that don't deliver max speeds, the average peak-time speed still comes close to 100Mbps — like Superloop's 97Mbps cap — so you'll likely not notice any difference.

While NBN 100 plans may not offer the outright fastest speeds across the fixed-line network, 100Mbps would easily cover an average household of four or more users during the busy evening hours.

The average price of this speed tier comes out to AU$91.27, according to our research at the time of writing. However, several ISPs offer attractive introductory discounts, which could see you spending only AU$69 p/m for a plan (or potentially less if you bundle services or bank with CBA).

Despite that, NBN 100 plans are still a good way to get fast speeds without spending too much, and they're also great if you're looking to upgrade from an NBN 50 plan with a similar monthly spend.

There's never been a better time to switch your NBN plan to maximise savings, so scroll on to find our picks of the best NBN plans available this month.

Best overall NBN 100 plan

Why you can trust Tom's Guide Our writers and editors spend hours analyzing and reviewing products, services, and apps to help find what's best for you. Find out more about how we test, analyze, and rate.

Superloop | Unlimited data | No lock-in contract | AU$69 p/m

Superloop | Unlimited data | No lock-in contract | AU$69 p/m (for 6 months, then AU$85 p/m)

Superloop ’s Family NBN 100/20 is our top pick this month, namely for its low monthly spend. Typically, its 97Mbps plan would set you back AU$85 p/m but with its current introductory offers for new residential customers, you’ll save AU$96 over the first six months — and it’ll cost you under AU$1,000 for the first year.

Additionally, the telco offers you five Speed Boost days per month, which allows you to jump to the next speed tier of 250Mbps. You can bank up to 30 days total, so you can save them for a rainy day (or week). The plan also includes a free Amazon eero6+ router but you’ll have to pay an extra fee for it if you decide to cancel your service before 18 months is up.

Minimum monthly cost: AU$69 | Total cost for first 12 months: AU$924 | Yearly cost after discount: AU$1,020

Cheapest NBN 100 plan

Spintel | Unlimited data | No lock-in contract | AU$69p/m

Spintel | Unlimited data | No lock-in contract | AU$69p/m (for 6 months, then AU$79.95p/m)

Spintel offers sensational value for a low cost. Across all NBN 100 plans, the offering has one of the lowest first yearly cost of a modest AU$893.70 — only 30c above Flip's plan — and one of the cheapest ongoing rate after the introductory discount ends.

There’s little in the way of extra features with this plan – which will likely go some way to explaining the low cost – but if you’re just searching for a no frills NBN plan to get you connected, Spintel is well worth your attention.

Total minimum cost: AU$69 | Total cost of first 12 months: AU$893.70 | Yearly cost after discount: AU$959.40

Dodo | NBN 100 | Unlimited data | No lock-in contract | AU$64p/m

Dodo | NBN 100 | Unlimited data | No lock-in contract | AU$64p/m (for 6 months, then AU$85p/m)

This Dodo NBN 100 plan is currently the cheapest NBN 100 plan in Australia. Not only does it come in at under AU$900 for the first year, Dodo's plan also advertises the maximum 100Mbps typical evening speeds.

However, Dodo is the cheapest plan for the first six months, so you may want to consider switching to another plan like Flip's NBN 100 plan, if you want to maximise savings on similar speeds.

Total minimum cost: AU$64 | Total cost for first year: AU$894 | Yearly cost after discount: AU$1,020

More NBN 100 plan deals

We've already made a passing mention to NBN 100/40 plans, and if it sounds like the plan for you, you'll want to know which ones are the best.

Some NBN providers offer 100/40 plans as an option, however, you will need to pay around AU$10p/m extra.

Best overall NBN 100/40 plans

Exetel | Unlimited data | No lock-in contract | AU$74.99p/m

Exetel | Unlimited data | No lock-in contract | AU$74.99p/m (for 6 months, then AU$88.99p/m)

Exetel's NBN 100/40 plan is currently one of the cheapest plans for most people, but if you bank with CommBank, there is a deal that might be of more interest to you (below).

As with the telco's 100/20 NBN plan, you can expect the full 100Mbps speed during the busy evening period. As for upload speeds, Exetel claims you'll get 34Mbps during the busy evening hours. Plus, Exetel gives you the five free Speed Boost days, which boosts your service to the NBN 250/25 speed tier.

Total minimum cost: AU$74.99 | Total cost for first year: AU$983.88 | Yearly cost after discount: AU$1,067.88

If you’re looking to upgrade to an NBN 100 plan or switch providers, it makes sense to check out deals that are being offered by Australia’s major NBN providers: Telstra, Optus and TPG. In most cases an NBN plan from any of the big three won’t be the cheapest option, but you are at least highly likely to experience a reliable service. And, since all three provide mobile services too, you may be able to bundle up and save some money. Other perks, such as free subscriptions to streaming services, may also be included.

All three also provide 4G backup with their modems, so if your fixed-line NBN connection drops out, you’ll still be able to connect to the internet via 4G data.

Best Optus NBN 100 plan

Optus | NBN 100 | Unlimited data | No lock-in contract | AU$79 p/m

Optus | NBN 100 | Unlimited data | No lock-in contract | AU$79 p/m (for six months then AU$99 p/m)

Retailing at AU$99 p/m, this Optus introductory offer will save you AU$24 p/m for the first six months — that's a saving of AU$144 — before the price increases.

According to ACCC data , Optus delivers 100.6% of advertised download speeds across all hours of the day — meaning you can reasonably expect to reach 100Mbps during the peak evening hours of 7-11pm.

The only thing to note though, is that this plan's minimum cost is AU$381, as it includes the modem. However, you won't pay any additional fees for the modem if you remain connected for 36 months or more.

Minimum monthly cost: AU$385 (including modem fee) | Total cost for first 12 months: AU$1,068 | Yearly cost after discount: AU$1,188

Best TPG NBN 100 plan

TPG | Unlimited data | No lock-in contract | AU$79.99p/m

TPG | Unlimited data | No lock-in contract | AU$79.99p/m (for 6 months, then AU$89.99p/m)

TPG doesn’t promise the full 100Mbps download speed, instead quoting just 95Mbps. However, a TPG NBN 100 plan is the cheapest of three major telcos, but you will need to pay AU$99.95 if you require a modem to be supplied.

You can bring your own modem if you wish, or if you don't already own one, you can buy your own and claim a AU$100 rebate.

Total minimum cost: AU$79.99 | Total cost for first year: AU$1,019.88 | Yearly cost after discount: AU$1,079.88

Best Telstra NBN 100 plan

Telstra | Unlimited data | No lock-in contract | AU$100p/m

Telstra | Unlimited data | No lock-in contract | AU$100p/m (for 6 months, then AU$110p/m)

Telstra’s NBN 100 plan is the most expensive in Australia, there's no beating around the bush. You are promised maximum speeds during the evening hours and a modem with 4G backup, to help soften the blow.

Being a Telstra customer does bring other perks, such as deals on various streaming services, including Binge and Spotify.

Total minimum cost: AU$100 | Total cost for first year: AU$1,260 | Yearly cost after discount: AU$1,320

What is NBN 100?

NBN 100 is a speed tier that can offer download speeds up to 100Mbps, although the actual speed you can achieve will vary depending on network conditions and your NBN connection type.

However, a good proportion of NBN providers in Australia do now claim to offer the full 100Mbps typical evening speed. Some may still fall slightly short of 100Mbps, delivering, on average, between 90-99Mbps typical evening speeds instead.

Is it worth getting NBN 100?

If you live in a household with multiple users wanting to use the internet at the same time, and if you stream and download video content in 4K resolution or large files, then yes, we would recommend NBN 100.

While you can get even faster NBN plans in the form of NBN 250 and NBN 1000, NBN 100 will likely be more than fast enough for most Australian households.

How do I get NBN 100?

All NBN connection types are theoretically capable of supporting 100Mbps download speeds, however you may find in a real-world scenario that this isn't actually the case.

If you have a hybrid fibre coaxial (HFC) or fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) connection type, then you should definitely be able to achieve 100Mbps downloads. If you have any other NBN connection type, then it isn't guaranteed.

Some NBN providers offer free trials of their services, so be sure to take advantage of these, and check the T&C's before signing up.

What does NBN 100/20 mean?

NBN 100/20 refers to the download and upload speed of your plan, i.e. 100Mbps download and 20Mbps upload. 20Mbps upload speeds should be more than enough for most households, but if you need to conduct multiple video calls or you spends hours online gaming, then you may need something faster.

In these instances, an NBN 100/40 plan is available, with 100Mbps download speeds and up to 40Mbps upload speeds.

Telstra’s changing NBN prices again from 1 July, says it’s complicated

tpg business plan nbn

Are we re-living 2023 all over again?

The gist of changes for Telstra's NBN plans goes something like this: some prices are going up, some are coming down, others stay the same.

Lower speeds are getting more expensive, faster speeds are becoming a little bit cheaper in comparison.

Here's a quick look at what these changes are:

The interesting bit here is just how expensive NBN 50 has become, especially stacked against NBN 100. There's now only a $5 difference between the two, but on NBN 100 you get double the download speeds.

While NBN 50's popularity has been on the decline, it's still used by 44% of Aussies. It's also the speed tier most impacted.

Optus will also be hiking up the prices of its NBN 25 and NBN 50 plans by $4 to $5 a month from July 8.

NBN 25 will cost $79 a month and NBN 50 will cost $89 a month.

Didn't Telstra and other providers change their prices just a few months ago?

Yep, you're not wrong.

Telstra , along with a bunch of other internet providers, made a slew of changes based on the speed tier.

The majority of moves happened between August and December 2023.

For Telstra, it was October 2023.

Here's a look at what last year's price moves looked like:

"As a business, we're constantly striving to balance the needs of our customers whilst ensuring we remain financially sustainable," a Telstra spokesperson told Finder.

NBN Co is increasing the price they charge us for wholesale internet and this is an important factor for the changes we're making, along with our ability to keep investing in our network, products and services while responding to increased data usage.

"This includes 24/7 network monitoring to help protect against scams, 4G backup to help keep you connected in an outage and support from our local teams when you need us."

It all started when...

After a lot of back and forth, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission finally gave NBN the green light for its new pricing model.

You can read all about it in our news from last year but the new pricing structure essentially favours higher speeds.

But that was a change in wholesale prices for last year. This time, it's based on NBN's pricing for FY25.

Earlier this year , NBN explained its thought process on proposed changes based on how household needs are evolving.

The average household now consumes 443 gigabytes per month across 22 internet-connected devices. We predict that the average will grow to 33 connected devices by 2026 and 40 by the end of the decade.

That's all well and good, but in this cost-of-living environment, these changes may not work for everyone's budget.

We're also waiting to see how other providers apart from Telstra and Optus respond. We'll keep you updated!

So, what can I do?

Your best option is to shop around and compare NBN plans .

It's good to remember that a lot of the time loyalty doesn't pay. It just makes you pay more than you should.

There are other providers that will offer unlimited data and the same speeds for cheaper. A lot of them are also famous for slinging 6-month sign-up discounts.

Maybe they may not offer as many extra bells and whistles as Telstra or Optus, but if all you care about is speed, they're worth checking out.

Check out our pick of the best NBN plans for this month for a more curated list of options.
