Career Counselor

For over 10 years now, I've been on both sides of the fence, career counseling, and recruitment, and let me tell you, the writer's block hits hard when it comes to drafting your resume.

Novorésumé not only offers you a smart and modern template for you to fill in, but their team has also crafted a winning combo of aesthetics and functionality that will inspire you to apply for the job you thought was out of your league. Give it a try!

Biron Clark

Former Executive Recruiter

Novorésumé is one of the few resume builders that I recommend online. Their resume templates are modern and eye-catching, and will grab an employer's attention. As a former Recruiter, if a candidate sent me a resume built with one of these templates, I would take notice and be impressed.

The software also makes it easy to enter your info and handles all of the formatting for you, so you can get your resume ready to send out as quickly as possible. I recommend these templates whether you're a recent graduate or experienced candidate.

Gabriela Tardea

Career Strategist, Coach & Trainer

When I consult people on resume writing, the most common question that I am asked it is about the content and what components to add or avoid, when they have less than 5 years of work experience.

On this platform, you not only have access to many options, but you get guidance on what to choose and why. When the work experience is less than 5 years, the other components such as languages, projects, volunteering experiences, hobbies etc, make a huge difference.

Resume Resources

What is a resume.

A resume is a brief summary of personal and professional experiences, skills, and education history. Its main purpose is to show off your best self to potential employers.

When applying for a job, you’re (in most cases) going to be asked for a resume accompanied by a cover letter.

If you manage to create a “good” resume, you’re going to 2x your chances of getting hired . Want to learn how? Check out our complete guide on how to make a resume .

How to Write a Resume With No Experience?

The process of writing a resume might seem super scary to you. After all, most resume examples you see on the web are 80% about work experience. So, what the heck can you include in your resume if you have none?

Well, here’s some good news. If you’re applying for an entry-level job or an internship, no one expects you to have ANY work experience.

Instead, you should focus on what you DO have: education, projects, volunteering experience, hobbies & interests.

For a complete guide on how to make a resume with no work experience stand out, check out our article.

What to Put on a Resume?

The most common sections on a resume are:

Contact information

Resume summary or objective

Work experience

If you want to personalize your resume a bit more, you can also include the following sections:

Volunteering experience

Hobbies & interests

For more information on how to place these sections on your resume, check out our article on what to put on a resume .

How to Format a Resume?

Here are the three most popular resume formats:

Reverse-Chronological Resume

Functional Resume

Combination Resume

In 99% of the cases, you’ll want to go with the reverse chronological resume format . That’s the format most resumes you’ve seen follow - its main focus is your work experience, written down in reverse-chronological order.

So, unless you’re a student with no professional experience or a career changer, we’d recommend sticking with this format.

If you want to learn more about three resume formats , check out our comparison guide.

How to Write a Resume For a Student?

A good student resume takes advantage of the education section to highlight the candidate’s skills and qualifications.

So, the first thing you should do is talk about all your academic achievements, including any classes you’ve taken that are relevant to the position.

As a student, hiring managers don’t expect you to have extensive professional experience, so you don’t have to worry about the work experience section missing from your resume. Instead, you can focus on highlighting your extracurricular activities , any volunteering you’ve done, and your awards or certifications.

This student resume guide has all the information you need to perfect your resume and land your first real job.

How to Write a Resume For My First Job?

If you’re applying for your first job, chances are you don’t have substantial work experience. That’s fine - hiring managers expect that from entry-level positions.

First things first, go for the reverse-chronological format. Instead of writing a resume summary, use a resume objective to highlight your skills and career aspirations. If you have any work experience, do include it on your resume.

If not, you should put more focus on the following sections:

Internships , where you should focus on what you learned and achieved

Extracurricular activities , where you should highlight your role, responsibilities, and achievements.

Volunteering experiences , where you should mention the organization name, and relevant tasks and achievements.

Projects , where you talk about any personal projects you’ve worked on (that are also somehow relevant to the job you’re applying for).

Check out this guide on writing a resume with no experience to learn more about the topic and get inspired by real-life examples.

How Long Should a Resume Be?

Short answer: one page. If you're a seasoned professional with a lot of work experience that's relevant to the position, you can create a 2-page long resume MAX.

Long answer: check out our guide on how long should a resume be .

P.S. all of our templates are one page long , so you shouldn’t have a lot of trouble sticking to the one-page limit!

How to Write a Resume Summary?

Your resume summary is a “hook” that goes on top of your resume. Think of it as an introduction to the rest of your resume. It should, in 2-4 sentences, explain what your background is, and why it’s relevant for the position you’re applying for.

To learn more about how to create a resume summary that stands out, check out our guide.

How to List Work Experience on a Resume?

Work experience on a resume is one of those things that’s easy to learn but hard to master.

Each work experience entry should contain the following information:

Company name/description/location

Achievements or responsibilities

Dates employed

Now, if you want to create a work experience section that stands out, you want to make your achievements quantifiable. What this means is, instead of creating a responsibility-focused entry, like:

“Carried out sales operations.”

You list your achievements:

“Hit and exceeded monthly sales KPIs for 5 months in a row.”

This shows the employer that you’re not just a random candidate, you’re an A-player! To learn more about how to list achievements in your work experience (and land the job), check out our article.

How to List Skills on a Resume?

Simply create a ”skills” section on your Novorésumé resume template, and list your top skills. We usually recommend going for a mix of hard and soft skills .

Not sure what skills to include in your resume? Check out these 101 essential skills for any resume .

How to Make a Cover Letter for a Resume?

You should always submit a cover letter along with your resume for any job you apply to. Here are some of our top cover letter tips on how to do this right:

Tailor your cover letter to the employer. The more personalized it is, the more likely it is for the recruiter to like you.

Outline your general background (work experience, profession, etc.) and mention your top 2-3 achievements to show off your skills.

If you really want to stand out, create a cover letter that matches your resume template. To do this, you can use one of our cover letter templates here .

If you want to learn more about how to write a convincing cover letter, check out our comprehensive guide.

What Is the Best Resume Template?

There’s no such thing as “the best resume template” - every recruiter/employer has their own personal preference. Our general recommendation is to do your research on the company and its values.

For example, if you’re applying for a position at a bank, you’d want a more traditional resume template. Or, if you want a job in a startup where they value innovation more, you could opt for a creative resume template .

Alternatively, if you want your experience and skills to do all the talking, you can pick one of these minimalist resume templates .

Finally, if you’re still not sure which type of template is right for the job you’re applying for, you can just use a simple resume template just to be safe.

Do I Need to Include a Photo on my Resume?

No, you don’t need to include your photo together with your other contact details. Companies hire based on merit, which means your physical appearance shouldn’t matter to the hiring manager.

Instead, in your contact information section, make sure to include the following:

Professional title

Valid phone number

Email address

Location/where you’re based

Link to website/ LinkedIn /online portfolio, etc.

What’s the Difference Between a Resume and a CV?

In most cases, when people are talking about a CV or a resume, they are referring to the same thing! The only difference is that it's called a resume in the US and a CV in Europe (and most other countries around the world).

Now, in the US, a CV is a very in-depth document that describes your career journey step-by-step, including all sorts of personal information . Depending on your amount of experience, a CV can range between 2 to 8 pages and it’s typically used when you’re applying for jobs in academia.

Check out our guide for a more comprehensive run-down of the differences between a CV and a resume .

6 Tips for Creating a US Resume (That’ll Land You the Job)

Looking to get hired in the US? Check out our tips for creating a US resume below!

Keep your resume between 1-3 pages . A one-page resume is preferable unless you’re a seasoned professional. In such a case, you can go for two or even three, if your experience is really relevant.

Use Standard American English . So, for example, write “color” instead of the UK version, which is “colour.”

Leave out personal information , such as marital status, birthday, gender, photo, number of children, age, religion, personal identification numbers, and ethnicity/country of origin. They can be grounds for discrimination.

Don’t include references, unless the employer specifically asks you to.

Don’t list English as a foreign language.

Don’t list your GPA, SAT, TOEFL, or ACT scores on your US resume unless otherwise stated. Hiring managers usually don’t care.

How To Write A Resume

A resume template is the best cure for the blank page syndrome. You’re halfway done — all that’s left is to fill in the blanks in the resume template and hit save.

Select The Right Resume Format

The 3 most popular resume formats are chronological, functional, and combination resumes.

  • Chronological resume organizes the information like LinkedIn does – from the latest position to the first one, with education, interests, and additional info listed later. It’s the most popular resume format, preferred for recruiters. Go for it unless you’re entry-level or changing careers.
  • Functional resume keeps the focus on your skills and experience, rather than employment history. It’s the go-to choice for candidates with employment gaps and those without much hands-on work experience.
  • Combination resume takes the best of both worlds and allows you to spice up your “dry” employment history with some juicy details about your skill set and achievements. Startups and edgier companies may prefer this.

Create a Compelling Summary

A resume summary is a two-sentence statement highlighting your key qualifications, skills, and value proposition for the role. It sits in the header area, right after your name and contact details. Think of it as a teaser to a movie — you should put your most marketable skills upfront to immediately capture the hiring manager’s attention and get them interested in reading the full copy.

Add Work History

List your employers in reverse chronological order. Each entry should include the employment date, job title, company name, key responsibilities, and achievements listed in bullet format . Include 3 to 5 bullet points for each position. Don’t get long-winded — your resume must fit into one page.

Include Marketable Resume Skills

With skills-based hiring on the rise, you must demonstrate specific competencies rather than just tenure and educational credentials. Showcase your best hard and soft skills in a featured sidebar section, plus your resume summary and work experience entries.

Check the following posts for ideas:

  • Business acumen skills for resume
  • Critical thinking skills for a resume

  • Organizational skills for a resume
  • Technical skills for a resume
  • Childcare skills for resume
  • Nursing skills for a resume
  • Transferable skills for a resume
  • Retail skills for a resume

List Education

Unless you are a recent graduate, don’t dwell on this section too much. Simply list all your degrees (highest to lowest), the name of your educational institution, and your graduation date. But if you’re still in college, you can also add your GPA , dean’s list , or research .

A job resume is a short, sweet, and to-the-point document that spotlights your professional experience. It’s basically a summary.

Whether you’ve been in the workforce for 15+ years, have no job experience, or are somewhere in between, resumes have been sparking fear and dread in job seekers since approximately 1482 when Leonardo De Vinci drafted what became known as the first resume .

Resumes are what just about any place of employment requests when you apply for a job. Companies—big and small—wanna know:

◉ What skills do you bring to the job? ◉ Do you have relevant work experience for the role? ◉ Do you want to work for them?

A good resume answers those questions—and isn’t so unlike De Vinci’s resume that honed in on how he could meet the specific needs and challenges of the Duke of Milan.

The best resume template is the one that complements your personality and allows the space you need to highlight your finest work, top achievements, and job skills.

Every resume template you see on this page has been thoroughly vetted by hiring experts to ensure they include everything you need to help you land your next job. Whether you’re applying to a funky tech startup or looking to join the ranks of a reputable law firm, you’ll find a professional resume template that speaks to you.

Hunting for a new job is incredibly stressful as there’s a lot of uncertainty in the process. And while these resume templates won’t alleviate all stress, they’ll ensure your resume has everything you need to sail through an applicant tracking system (ATS) and impress hiring managers.

Try saying “applicant tracking system” 10 times fast, and you’ll know why it got shortened to ATS.

At its core, an applicant tracking system puts the gas on hiring. Typically, when folks think about ATS software, they think about it weeding out resumes that don’t include the right skills or qualifications.

That’s certainly true enough, but the ATS also helps HR and recruiters organize and sort job candidates, keeps track of communication with job seekers, sets up interviews, and does a host of other not-so-fascinating things.

Basically, when you choose an ATS-friendly resume template from BeamJobs, you can rest easy knowing that the document itself will make it through the software

When it comes to your resume, it will house these staple sections:

◉ Contact info (Triple-check the spelling of your name; see the question about “how to make a resume” for a cringe-worthy BeamJobs blunder.) ◉ Work experience ◉ Skills ◉ Education

Depending on your occupation and years of experience, you could add these optional resume sections:

◉ Resume summary or resume objective ◉ Hobbies and interests ◉ Projects (an umbrella term for things like volunteer experience, academic or personal projects, etc.)

The more relevant job experience you have, the longer the “work experience” section of your resume should be since that’s what employers care about most. On the other hand, when you’ve recently graduated and don’t have much (or any) experience, things like education and projects can take up more real estate on your resume.

Whatever your professional background, our resume maker lets you re-arrange, remove, and add sections as needed to your resume template.

Not to blast our own horns, but we’ve reviewed tens of thousands of resumes in the last few years. Would you believe we’ve actually seen resumes without a name ?! Besides discovering disheartening news like that, we’ve figured out  how to make a good resume .

There are plenty of resume tips we could give you, but here are three that, when followed, will most increase your chances of snagging an interview:

Use numbers to showcase your impact in past roles. Your work experience should focus on your measurable accomplishments, not on job responsibilities.

Tailor your resume for each job you apply to, which means reading each job description carefully. As you read, see if any prior work projects come to mind. Include those projects on your resume.

Avoid grammar and spelling errors. We know, you’ve heard it before. But you’d be aghast (fun word) at the number of folks rejected for a job because of this. (C ough cough We won’t say his real name, but one of our team members whose title rhymes with re-bounder once sent out 20 resumes with his name spelled ‘Stepen.’)

One page—plain and simple.

While you might get away with a two-page resume if you’ve got 10-plus years of experience under your hat, keep in mind that recruiters and hiring managers aren’t giving your resume the time of day it deserves anyway.

The most painful part of building a resume is editing yourself. How can your entire career fit into four or five bullet points for each job you’ve had? Here’s some good news: if you’re a senior engineer, it’s totally cool to drop from your resume the server job you had in college.

Even if you whittled the jobs you’d include down to three or four, try starting with a basic  resume outline . Fill it to your heart’s content; then, review every job experience bullet point individually and ask, “Does this point show my expertise and say something new?” If the answer’s no, exclude it. Before you know it, you’ll have a polished one-page resume.

Why Are These The Best Resume Templates The Internet Has To Offer?

A lot of sites claim that they have the best resume templates - why should you trust me? Here are a few reasons:

1. Our Resume Templates Were Designed With The Help of Real Recruiters

When designing these resume templates, I consulted real recruiters with a single goal: to incorporate best practices that would allow you to boost your chances of landing a job offer.

Together, these recruiters have over a century of experience and they come from the world’s best companies. Companies like Microsoft, Google, Barclays, Deloitte, etc.

2. Our Resume Templates Have Been Tested & Proven To Get Results For Thousands Of Job Seekers (Like You!)

I started Cultivated Culture back in 2015. Since then, I’ve had over 50,000 people come through the doors of our community -- all hoping to land a dream job.

That gave me the opportunity to test out these strategies at scale. To see what works, what doesn’t, and to identify strategies that no one else is using.

The learnings and strategies that stemmed from these experiments have helped thousands of people take their resumes from blah to brilliant and win job offers at the world’s best companies.

Now I’ve baked the very best, most effective practices into the resume templates on this page. If you scroll up to the top of the page, you can see the logos of the company’s where I’ve helped people get jobs.

3. I Have Been Where You Want To Go

The best piece of advice I ever received was this:

"Only take advice from people who already have what you want."

If you want a resume that wins you a job at a place like Microsoft or Google, you should make sure the person you’re taking advice from has gone through that process and received the offer.

Before I started Cultivated Culture, I was deep into my own job search. I started out as a graduate with a 2.5 GPA, a biology degree, and a job in healthcare. Two years later, I ended up with job offers from Microsoft, Google, and Twitter.

The reason these resume templates and the advice you’ll find in this resume builder is so effective, is because it’s coming from someone who has achieved what you’re trying to do.

4. Our Resume Builder Teaches You As You Go

In order to make sure you’re headed in the right direction, I’ve made sure that our resume builder includes tips, tactics, and advice that’s easy to access right when you need it

Our first example focuses on a customer support representative who reworked her company's ticket triage to reduce their backlog:

This bullet is a nice length (16 words) and its word balance comes out do:

13 % Action Words (developed, eliminated)

38 % Common Words (that, of, in, less, than, weeks)

38 % Industry Terms (tiered, triage, system, JIRA, ticket, backlog)

11 % Measurable Metrics (40%, 8)

Real Results From Real People (Just Like You)

"I landed three jobs (all above $100k+) in the past three months using Austin's strategies! I'd recommend them to anyone."

"Austin's strategies helped me land my dream job in San Francisco and triple my salary in the process!"

“Austin’s advice helped me land my dream job at a Fortune 30 tech company with a $40,000 raise."

“Austin’s advice helped me land a Marketing Manager role less than 4 weeks after I was laid off!”

"Thanks to Austin, I landed jobs at Amazon and Apple!"

Free Resume Templates Examples 2023 / 2024 - Word / Docx / PDF

Do you look to get a new job? Website COOL FREE CV can help you craft a professional and modern resume. Have a look at our extensive base of a resume template. Choose an example that corresponds not only to your style but also the type of profession you are looking for. All our documents are created in MS Word (Doc and Docx) format. The documents have been prepared in such a way that text editing is not too difficult even for people without much experience with MS Word. We have a lot of ready-to-use inspirations. Use our ready examples!

Is there a resume template that is perfect? Much depends on what the recruiter or employer expects. It all depends on the format you decide on, and what elements you implement in the document. Many candidates wonder whether to create a long, extensive resume, or be content with only a short document containing the most important information. Our advice is, your document must not look like a huge wall of text, because recruiters simply won't want to read the whole thing. Focus on what information is most desirable in the job for which you are applying. What information will attract the recruiter's attention? The classic resume template may prove effective if your document contains strong arguments for your candidacy.

Recruiters are busy people, to save them time, prepare a solid dose of professional information at the very top of your resume, the "Professional Summary" section is for this purpose. Read the job offer carefully, use keywords as in the advertisement to define your skills and experience. The employer will notice from the very beginning that you are not a random candidate and may read your CV to the very end. Then there is a good chance that you will be invited to an interview. And this is a big step that brings you closer to getting your dream job. In life, it is worth following the maxim, when I do something, I do it properly from the beginning. This also applies to the preparation of strong recruitment documents.

A Curriculum vitae Vs. A Resume Differences

A resume is a concise one-page long summary of professional, personal and educational experiences. It contains a brief overview of your job qualifications and intends to grab the employers’ attention. Customize your document for every profession posting you are applying to.

A CV is a detailed version of your professional experience, education, knowledge of foreign languages, soft and hard skills. A CV provides the recruiter with more comprehensive information about your career goals, past achievements, professional education, and another important job achievement. CVs are made chronologically and do not require detail customization for different profession postings.

Don't forget the cover letter. What should be included in this document? Describe your most important skills in a few sentences, and describe your soft competencies. Justify how you can apply these to the position you are applying for. List examples of your past professional successes and most interesting achievements. In this way you will show the recruiter the scale of your capabilities, which you could not properly present in your professional resume.

Remember that a wizard or an advanced word processor such as MS Word is only a tool to help you write a professional resume. Focus on specifics. Don't send one and the same CV in response to different work offers. Read job postings carefully and tailor your resume to a specific profession each time.

On this page, we explain step by step what information should be included in a winning resume. Follow the tips and your chances of getting your dream job will be better. Read the tips and learn what a tailored resume should look like that will make it to the HR professional's short list, allowing you to move on to the next stage of recruitment.

A few tips for writing a good Resume:

The length of the document..

While recruiting, the employer gets dozens of Resumes. While looking through the documents, they must select a few candidates who are most suitable for the position specified. For one document, the recruiter takes only a few seconds. A Resume that is too long will not be read to the end, and at the same time a lot of information in the Resume will make it completely illegible. That is why it is good to use the minimum content to provide maximum information.

Links to portfolio, links to LinkedIn professional profile.

If you have a profile on LinkedIn, regularly updated, with a photo, add a link to your Resume. If you are a graphic designer or a photographer and you have a portfolio on Behance, add a link to your Resume. If you are a developer you have an account on Github, add a web address to your Resume.

Professional summary.

The job summary should be at the top of your Resume. The length of the summary should be between 3 and 5 sentences. The main purpose of the professional summary is to make the candidate's strengths, key skills and experience immediately visible. And to make the introduction interesting enough for the recruiter to read the other sections of the Resume. The form plays an important role. A professional summary should be like a short advertising spot, it should contain what is the most important, there must be keywords. After reading a few sentences of the summary, the employer will know what a certain person can bring to their company.

Soft and hard skills.

Hard skills - refer to the candidate's technical knowledge gained through teaching, training or experience. Technical skills are necessary to perform specific tasks.

Soft skills - these are personality features and habits that, among other things, describe how you work individually or with other people. Soft skills indirectly help to adapt to the work environment and company culture.

Professional experience.

Write the company name and position in bold. Enter the time frame (example: 01/2019 - 05/2020). At the top of the list, write the most important duties performed. Avoid large unreadable blocks. For clarity, always use bullet points. There is no need to include your entire career in your Resume. If there were many employers in your career path, it is worth focusing only on the last or most suitable position for which you are applying. The same applies to skills. Over time, there are more and more skills, but it is not always necessary to list them all. We should focus only on those skills that are relevant to the job profile.

List the schools you have completed by posting the most recent information also at the top of the section. It is worth mentioning completed courses, specialisations. Mark the whole section with start and end dates as well.

This section will be particularly useful for people who do not yet have much professional experience. Information about the candidate's hobbies can partly fill the competence gap. Information about hobbies will also prove useful for candidates whose interests are the driving force at work, thanks to their hobbies they are even better employees. For example, a person who is involved in winter sports, because of their hobby, knows the equipment they use very well, and will be the best advisor and salesman, answering all the questions of the sports shop customers.

References.

For many employers this is the most important column of the Resume.

In creating your resume, start with a header featuring your name in a bold, larger font, followed by contact information including email, phone number, and website. For the experience section, detail each job title, company, and employment dates, utilizing bullet points to highlight responsibilities and achievements. Education should include your degree, the institution attended, and graduation date, along with any honors or pertinent coursework. Under skills, segregate technical abilities such as software proficiency or programming languages from soft skills like communication, leadership, and teamwork, the latter of which could be enhanced with icons for a visually appealing presentation.

Content Sections: Properly organized sections ensure that important information is easily accessible, allowing employers to quickly understand a candidate's qualifications, experiences, and potential fit for the position.

Customization: Effective resume templates allow for customization, enabling job seekers to tailor their resumes to highlight the qualifications most relevant to the job they're applying for, thereby improving their chances of being noticed.

It allows job seekers to focus on showcasing their unique skills , experiences, and achievements within a structured and appealing format, tailored to their specific career goals. This personalized approach helps candidates stand out in a competitive job market, improving their chances of securing interviews and advancing their careers.

What is the difference between a CV and a Resume?

A CV (Curriculum Vitae) is detailed, outlining your entire academic and professional history for positions in academia or research, often spanning several pages. It includes education, publications, awards, and more. A resume, in contrast, is a summary of your skills, education, and work experience, tailored to a specific job, usually one to two pages long, focusing on relevant qualifications for non-academic roles.

What is a resume?

A resume is a concise and often bulleted document that highlights your professional skills and work experience around a specific job description.

The purpose of the resume is to give a hiring manager an overview of how qualified you are, and how you best fit into the role of the job you are applying for.

Each job and job description are different, and by such you should also treat your resume the same way. Give your resume attention by slightly adjusting around the description of the job.

With our resume builder you can easily duplicate any already created resume and tailor it around a new job.

What do I put on a resume?

Your resume should always include the most relevant information about you that fits the description of the job that you are applying for. Even though you have to treat each resume differently, we highly recommend you to always include the following key elements on your resume :

  • A concise and professional summary
  • Your work experience
  • Educational level
  • Your relevant professional skills (both soft and hard skills)
  • Any achievements / awards (think self promoting)

Your goal is to list the above key elements chronologically (reverse chronologically) and in the right order. In our resume builder we have created a set frame that defines the best way to portray your skills and experiences. That's why you can't customize all sections in our templates. A resume that seems to be randomly assembled will not show off your skills in a strong and professional manner and it is utterly important that you treat your resume with professionalism. We've got that covered for you.

How do I format my resume?

That depends on your objective, but most job seekers use a chronological format. A chronological resume lists your work experience in a reverse chronological order, from the most to the least recent. However, bear in mind that if you have had 10 different jobs during your career, you don't need to list all of them. Always think about the objective of the resume, and list the most relevant jobs you’ve had. For most people this means the latest three to five job positions.

Many studies show that recruiters and hiring managers on average spend only six seconds per resume, so it's in your best interests to put your finest qualities and accomplishments in a prominent position.

Our resume builder favors the reverse chronological format, but you can create a functional style format or even a hybrid if you desire, by adding custom sections.

Don't go with overly graphical and visually appealing resumes. It mostly creates an unclear objective and often becomes unreadable for the hiring manager and the applicant tracking systems. You only have six seconds, remember?

How long should my resume be?

If you don’t have a lot of experience, it is recommended that your resume is a one-pager. Keep it relevant. Listing paperboy routes just for the sake of adding experience to your resume is not recommended. It's about sending the right message and you only have a very short amount of time to impress the receiver of the document. Make it all count.

If you are an experienced professional, a two to three pages resume will suffice, but never go beyond three pages.

The objective for your first page is to match yourself to the job description as much as you can. Always be concise and try to ask yourself: is this experience or skill relevant for the job that I am applying for?

How do I write a professional summary?

A professional summary is a few sentences at the top of your resume that highlights your qualifications for a job. It is often the very first thing that hiring managers look for and read, so you want to get to the point fast.

We recommend that you write three to four sentences, where you highlight your most relevant strengths, skills, and core competencies that are unique to you as a candidate. In particular, demonstrate how you will add value to the company. Try asking yourself: Did you outperform the projected sales? Have you saved the company money? Did you streamline project management?

Including your core skills and putting them into company perspective will impress the hiring manager and is a great way to demonstrate your candidacy towards the job.

Get started by using action verbs or power words as they can often be used to demonstrate achievements.

Lastly, remember to always tailor your professional summary to the specific job listing.

How do I list skills on my resume?

We have two set of skills. Hard skills and soft skills . The hard skills are teachable abilities that you often learn in a classroom through training or reading. A typical hard skill is your proficiency in a foreign language, a specific certificate, a computer programming language or something similar. Hard skills are a short list of the relevant skills that you posses.

Soft skills are subjective skills. You could also call it "people skills" as soft skills relate to the way that you interact and relate to other people. Examples of soft skills are leadership, teamwork, work ethics, communication skills, or something similar. These skills are best incorporated to your resume by providing examples of where you have put them to use. You have to emphasize on both skill sets to give the hiring manager an overall idea of the person you are and the skills that you posses.
