Consequently, he began the tradition of Fashion houses. Furthermore, he gave advice to customers on what clothing would suit them. He was prominent form 1826 to 1895.

During this period, many design houses hired artists. Furthermore, the job of these artists was to develop innovative designs for garments. The clients would examine many different patterns. Then they would pick the one they like. Consequently, a tradition began of presenting patterns to customers and then stitching them.

At the beginning of the 20th century, new developments in Fashion took place. These developments certainly began in Paris first. Then they spread in other parts of the world. Consequently, new designs first came into existence in France. From Paris, they went to other parts of the world. Hence, Paris became the Fashion capital of the world. In the mid-20th century, a change took place. Now Fashion garments underwent mass production. There was a significant increase in the rate of production of Fashion garments. essay about fashion and appearance

Essay on The Connection between Fashion, Beauty, Appearance and Identity

How significant is appearance to identity? This issue has been widely discussed in scientific literature and the mass media sources. Researchers have found that the significance of appearance and identity is reflected in social interaction. Appearance is considered to be the most salient symbol of social interaction. According to Kathleen J. Fitzgerald (2007), “appearance plays a significant role in identity construction simply because it presents our identity to others in social interaction”(p. 157). Scholars state that people perceive the appearance of others, placing emphasis on skin color, hair, eyes, weight, height, clothes, etc. As a result, appearance can be interpreted as the source of identity because through appearance, “the self presents an identity” (qtd. in Fitzgerald, 2007, p. 157). Finkelstein (1991) believes that physical appearance can be viewed as a means for claiming certain degree in representing social status. Physical appearance has direct relation to human character because some details of personal affectations tell much about one’s identity.

In addition, it is necessary to explain the meaning of the term “fashion” in order to find the connection between fashion and individual self-expression.  Fashion can be understood as both a system and a form of individual self-expression. There are several factors that influence the functioning of fashion as a system. First, fashion is a system because it has been developed into industry, which serves society. Second, fashion is a system that uses different signs to change appearance. Besides, fashion is a form of individual self-expression because it reflects individual culture, expressing one’s own individuality and personality. Fashion is conceptualized as the way to communicate identity through self-expression (Finkelstein, 1991).

In fact, appearance is important for a number of reasons. Appearance has the ability to impress others. According to Finkelstein (1991), people have always paid due attention to appearance, the body and clothing, in order to “enhance the human frame” and use fashion to highlight one’s identity. At the same time, beauty cannot function by denying its social construction because beauty is a social construction, based on research findings of social scientists (Kawamura, 2010).  It is possible to make everything look beautiful and aesthetic, depending on the context.  Due to cosmetic surgery, it is possible to improve the parameters of appearance, especially the appearance of women. The increase in the development of cosmetic surgery industry points out to the fact that it is possible to reshape the structures of body in order to improve both appearance and self-esteem (Northrop, 2010). Individuals today invest so much time, energy and money in appearance because they want to succeed in social interaction.  Fashion and display are implicated in the fabrication of the self. As a result, cosmetic surgery is focused on the promotion of certain appearance norms that have been evolved in human society as effective tools of social interaction (Northrop, 2010).

The surface tells us something much deeper about our self-identity.  We have not fallen prey to, in Lasch’s phrase, “a culture of narcissism”. Actually, social development effects the constitution and deployment of the self. For example, the politics of sexual identity, the role of the mass media and celebrity, social media and the Internet play an important role in the constitution and deployment of the self. It is impossible to fall prey to the “culture of narcissism” because many people have no opportunity to use cosmetic surgery. Their self-esteem is improved by the ability to demonstrate empathy.

Thus, it is necessary to conclude that there is the connection between fashion, beauty, appearance and identity. One’s own personality and individuality reflect the functioning of physical appearance. The popularity of such practice as cosmetic surgery helps to transform body and appearance, making it look perfect, based on the established social norms and standards. Cosmetic surgery helps to promote self-image contributing to social interaction. As a result, physical appearance has an enormous power over the successful practices of social interaction. Today many people are ready to invest much time, energy and money in their appearance in order to succeed in social interaction.  Fashion is conceptualized as an effective tool aimed at communicating one’s own identity through self-expression.

“The clothes we wear has become more than merely a way to cover our nakedness; instead it has also become one of the primary ways in which people express themselves.”

George K explains that fashion separates individuals from the rest. A person can introduce himself to others for who and what he is through style choices. Further, the author expounds on how fashion is a very competitive industry that depends on one’s search for identity. The author also points out that every person is unique and thus needs a distinct style to fit them. However, because of constant peer pressure and criticism, an individual’s fashion picks can’t be entirely their own. Ultimately, George K reminds the reader that it’s not just the clothes but how individuals wear and feel in them.

“…if we can do something then it is choosing the right stuff like entertainment, adventure, fashion, etc. All these things can make us happy and are also an important part of life. Fashion always attracts and it is available for all,”

Yadav considers how fashion originated from people’s traditions and cultures and became what it is today through individuals adopting each style and making it their own. In the following sections of the essay, she defines fashion and lists its importance, including how it developed new employment options and how styles speak for the wearer.

In her conclusion, she encourages everyone to choose their styles and not to mind their age. Fashion helps everyone live life to the fullest.

“Fashion is an industry based on creating a need where there is none and nowadays, due to the current recession, I can understand that fashion may not be people’s biggest concern. But we cannot qualify it as ‘trivial’ since we are surrounded by it; each new generation of customers is highly exposed to commercial influences.”

Summers gives her opinion about the book “Fashion as Communication” by Malcolm Barnard . She identifies points in the work and shares her thoughts on them. The first point being those working in the fashion industry aren’t smart. As a Fashion Marketing student, Summers vehemently disagrees with this statement and recounts her experiences to counter it. She continues to analyze Barnard’s other arguments and agrees with some of them. Summers ends her essay by highlighting that fashion is too essential in modern culture and economic organization for it to be considered “trivial.”

“…the youth cares more about what they wear and how they look which could affect their status in their peer group and meddle with their mental health. Following trends and doing what everyone is doing like a sheep is never a good idea. Fashion is there to reflect your personal style, not copying what other people think is trendy.”

User Edudwar reminds people that fashion is not simply following what’s currently trendy. Fashion is there to give people the chance to show off their individualism and personalities and not present a fake version of themselves to be accepted by society. Additionally, he mentions that youth nowadays are more sensitive to what people think of them, so some will always do everything to follow trends, even if they’re not presentable or appropriate.

“Youths of the present times have indulged themselves in so much fashion that they do not receive sufficient time for other work… The time spent on studies is being used in watching TV programmes, reading fashion articles, or even finding the recent trendy outfits on the Internet.”

The essay discusses the real effects of fashion on today’s youth. The author focuses on kids zeroing in on finding the latest style instead of caring for their studies that directly affect their future. The essay also delves into how youths of yesterday had ambitions and goals in life compared to today’s youths, who prefer to have fun rather than study hard.

Essay: Why Fashion is Important

The Fashionisto

Published October 18, 2017

Louis Vuitton 2016 Spring Summer Backstage

Fashion is one of the most critical industries in our world today. Style has become one of the primary ways in which people express their personality and distinguish themselves from those around them. With every New Year which comes and goes, new fashions arrive on the scene, and they all endeavor to be more colorful and fashionable than those which saw last year. There’s inspiration everywhere, from online retailers like Roden Gray to printed magazines. The desire to express one was present throughout human history.

People of all ages are addicted to new trends in fashion. There is a tremendous amount of competition within the industry and also among consumers. The style is also different among different cultures and nationalities, which is why it’s so exciting when one travels to various parts of the planet to observe firsthand how people dress in those countries. Our clothes have become more than merely a way to cover our nakedness. Instead, it has also become one of the primary ways in which people express themselves.

Garments which may fit one person may not necessarily be equally suitable for someone else. And even if those clothes are fantastic designer efforts, it does not mean everyone would be equally comfortable wearing them. Different people will need different styles and designs, which will be an expression of their uniqueness and personality before they will not be comfortable wearing that specific fashion design. Human beings are complicated creatures; everyone has different desires, dreams, and objectives that they deem essential to success in their life. Fashion trends are a critical aspect of that success.

There is a lot of discrimination among human beings and also a lot of criticism. People will do everything possible to avoid such criticism. Peer pressure continues to affect people throughout their lives, and it is a powerful motivator when it comes to crucial fashion decisions. It is also true that fashion design has reached a very sophisticated level, and therefore some of the most popular models can be very costly.

It has the result that such fashion may only be accessible to affluent people. It can make it very difficult for people of average income to compete in fashion designs. Fortunately, there has been a lot of progress by fashion designers to cater to middle-income consumers. It is why there are a lot of fashion designs available, which can make it possible for less fortunate people to own still fashion designs that will be of very high quality and attractive.

There are fashion items for every season and every occasion, making it possible for people to express themselves differently depending on the specific season or time of the year. Looking at all the consumer needs that have emerged in modern times, it becomes easy to see why fashion design has become such a specialized industry.

Another aspect that deserves contemplation is the fact that there is a measure of similarity in those fashion trends which aim at the low-income person. It is going a long way in avoiding discrimination or unnecessary competition because there is a lot of similarity in the designs which aim at this consumer market. Therefore, less affluent people can avoid unwarranted discrimination and criticism because, they are dressed very similarly in many ways to their friends, colleagues, or family members.

Care should be taken to avoid fashion designs of poor quality, especially in cases where failed fashion experiments are nevertheless mass-produced and then dumped on the low-income consumer. On the other hand, some poor people cannot afford anything better, leaving her with no choice but to purchase low-quality products.

Nevertheless, an eye for detail can be a blessing because this can help a person who may only have access to low-quality fashion items to mix and match those things very efficiently so that the overall result is nonetheless beautiful. There is some truth to the statement that it’s not what you wear but how you wear it, which is the most critical issue.

Unfortunately, many people never seem to learn how to combine different fashion items correctly and adequately. Knowing which colors go together is a rare gift that some people never master. Therefore, even affluent people with access to very costly fashion items often fail to do those things justice because of a lack of understanding regarding color matching.

Many people seem to think tight clothing is more attractive than a loose-fitting dress, and then they make fools of themselves by wearing unnecessarily close-fitting clothes. It is why it is essential to have at least a basic understanding of choosing your fashion items and mixing and matching those things for the best results. Access to the most expensive fashion trends on the market is undoubtedly a benefit. Still, it’s even more important to have a basic sense of how to maximize how the wearer will display those clothes and other articles.

Clothes are also known to impact people’s moods substantially; likewise, some colors are more effective than others in putting people in a better place as far as their mindset and emotions are concerned. Every person should do at least an introductory modeling course to understand how to make the best of their free clothes and accessories. Like we said earlier, it is not so much what you are wearing but rather how you are wearing it, which will ultimately provide proof of your competence as far as fashion and personal appearance is concerned.

Introduction

Fashion is a non-verbal way of communication that conveys a lot about the person’s personality, background and style. Earlier it was exclusively the world of the affluent, celebrities and royalty. However, fashion is now within the reach of the common man, especially the youth. Besides, dress fashion is an evolution of ideas, which begins as a fad, but in course of time gets accepted in society as a style, which could be in attire, behaviour or lifestyle. Fashion is mostly associated with glamour. It makes people feel confident and bold. People can express themselves openly. Today fashion is not limited to western countries; now, every country has come out with their fashion sense, not only the clothing but the accent of that country, the living style.

Vedantu experts have crafted an essay on fashion that covers its significance and how it reflects in your personality. This essay has promoted the thought perfectly that fashion is also about carrying yourself in society without having an attractive or trendy attire.  It is about being comfortable with yourself and not being a doppelganger of another person.

Why is Fashion Important?

Fashion is important because it reflects the culture of a country. It makes our life colourful and changes our life with time. In a way it also adds variety to life, providing an opportunity in trying out something new. Fashion is not only limited to clothing or makeup but in a much broader sense includes accessories like shoes, perfume, hairstyle, mannerism, etiquette and attitude towards life. Fashion is not restricted to self-expression only but also a means of self-empowerment and confidence. It encompasses the total spectrum of human activity, which relates to a specific period. It is an outlook of life.

Fashion is how you carry yourself in society without wearing anything trendy. It is how you attempt to make yourself look flawless even without any make-up. It helps you in revealing your true identity.

Evolution of Fashion

The world of fashion is always evolving.  It is amazing to see how the different events in history have influenced and changed the way people dressed and looked throughout time. Thus long dresses, veiled headgear that was trends of the Victorian era, have been replaced with micro and mini dresses and the jeans culture associated with the modern era.

From the 1920s to the 1990s fashion just not changed in clothing but also in accessories, footwear and hairstyles. The trends of wearing hats, carrying purses, shoes and men wearing long ties and bows have been continuously changing with periods, occasions and culture.

Hairstyles also have been changing throughout time. Short boyish haircuts were popular during the 1920s to 1940s. Wigs were more popular in the 1960s and thereafter hairstyles kept changing from short to bob cut then to mid-back cut and now maintaining long hair.

Fashion Industry

As fashion evolved, the industry was formulated to manage the process for the consumers. The fashion world has given shape to a new industry, the ‘Fashion Industry’.

The fashion industry was created to design, manufacture and market clothes, footwear and accessories. Before creating the apparel industry, people made clothes for themselves. The mass production of clothing began in the mid-nineties when some creators began to make garments that did not require any fitting session with the tailors. The fashion industry in its true sense was established in the twentieth century when the neighbourhood tailors decided to become the manufacturing business.

Fashion impacting the Youth

The positive side of fashion is it enhances your life. It not only allows you to dress fashionably but also allows being independent in thinking and maintaining self-esteem. At the same time, fashion is negatively impacting the youth. It has taken up the life of the youth so much that the youngsters are highly obsessed with creating style statements at an age where they need to focus on their studies and other important aspects of life. The fashion trend has become a cult with today’s generation. They blindly try to imitate the models and celebrities without understanding the true essence of fashion.

And in today’s world where a person is judged on their outward appearance, fashion has become more important. It has been around since man became aware of different kinds of fabrics and styles.

Fashion has traveled a long journey, from ancient times till now. We have seen tremendous changes in the trends and styles during his period. Clothing, footwear, and accessories all come under the umbrella of fashion but clothing always seems to take the lead. Several factors play a vital role in what is considered fashionable these days. Celebrities and personalities with major influence have always majorly shifted the trends in fashion. Because a lot of people that follow them, also follow their pieces of fashion advice.

Fashion in India is vast, to say the least. The land of diversity has a multitude of different outfits and fashion statements. Our country is rich with culture and a heritage that has influenced fashion for centuries. Although most of the world tends to follow western trends, traditional outfits still have their roots strong. A fusion between western and traditional fashion has also been a trend in the past and doesn’t seem to die down anytime soon. Fashion is a form of art that expresses its beautiful self in different ways.

Fashion expresses the choices and style of a person. It also represents the cultural heritage and its significance. People love dressing according to the occasion. For example, a professional environment calls for formals, while casual wear is considered daily wear, and special occasions like birthdays call for party wear. Dressing according to occasion helps in fitting in one’s social group. It is now common sense to dress appropriately because one cannot show up to a wedding in a casual outfit. It does not put you in a good light and may be frowned upon. Nowadays having a dressing sense has become an integral part of our lives.

The evolution of fashion throughout the world has been remarkable. It’s amazing to see how people dressed during certain times and history, and even today. From fluffy gowns and corsets to skinny jeans and bodycon dresses, it has been a hell of a ride. Women’s fashion is quite vast as compared to men’s fashion. Mostly, women have been the target audience of clothing and cosmetic brands. They always have a wide range of clothes and accessories to select from. Fashion has also become pretty popular among school and college students. They are very keen on following new fashion trends and owning the best outfit and accessory collection.

Wanting to look good isn’t a bad thing but you should not become completely obsessed with it. At the end of the day, people should wear what they feel comfortable in. Wearing fashionable clothes just for the sake of it will not do good for anyone. Fashion should never be the outcome of peer pressure, but a representation of one’s unique style.

Extract of sample "Fashion and Appearance"

Fashion and Appearance due: The desire to look good and stand out from the crowd thrives in everyone. Fashion brings to mind one’s dressing in his or her own style which eventually becomes a habit and changes from time to time; Experimenting with different looks, styles and textures provided it brings out all the glamour. How people dress can speak a lot as others dress according to originality, religion, beliefs, and lifestyle. This explains why today, fashion is not only all about looking good or identifying you, but it is more of a reflection of one’s inner beauty.

Marks and Spencer collection especially the Indigo Brand has a wide range of variety that speaks to me. I feel loyal to this brand because it is comfortable, brings out who I am as an individual and is not a hassle. At this point in my life, casual is my choice of style as it works for me any day any time. It’s quite manageable and appropriate for me as I dress the way I want provided it matches my personality. My style will definitely change but not completely. I still intend to keep my casual look when the mood calls for it and will change slightly to be at par with the trends keeping it classy and simple.

When choosing an outfit, most fashion stylists advice clients to flaunt their proudest bodily asset and cover the rest. One can make the choice to accentuate one’s internal qualities and still look beautiful. The renowned Hollywood costume designer, Edith Head (October 28, 1897- October 24, 1981) uttered,” a woman’s clothes should be tight enough to tell you’re a woman, but loose enough to show you’re a lady.” (Stiver, 2011). This totals up the concept of dressing with some degree of class, leaving particular parts of your body to remain a mystery.

Image 1 Image 2 Image 1 will make a best dressed list as the cloth is fitting; this is opposed to image two which is buggy. I believe fitting clothes make an individual appealing; this is evident from image 1. Clothes from image 2 make an individual look older than their actual age and not appealing. Clothes in my wardrobe that gives out a gender message include fitting dresses, tops and skirts. They accentuate my curves and bring out my figure while highlighting my best features though not too revealing to maintain a mysterious demeanor about me.

With this, I stay in-touch with my femininity. Marks and Spencer is a multinational retailer that was created in the year 1884 by Michael Marks and Thomas Spencer in Leeds. It deals with high quality, great value clothing and home products as well as outstanding food. It’s promoted through high profile media campaigns, advertisements and star-studded clothing advertisements. It is in partnership with Oxfam to promote the re-use and recycling of unwanted clothing via shopping initiative. A person’s consumer behavior reflects their values because a person’s self-image influences what he or she will buy.

There is too much emphasis on fashion because there is a criterion that necessitates that thin is beautiful and many women suffer through so many health related complications in order to meet the required size. Those working in the fashion industry are strained because they have to be creative and innovative to match the competitive industry. The consumers benefit greatly because they copy the latest trends which make it possible for them to gain access to that which has been created only for the high and mighty in society hence the fashion industry suffers greatly (Cullen & Parboteeah, 2014).

Judging against the past and the present, fashion for individuals in U.S has changed over the decades and has encompassed the world. References Cullen, J. B., & Parboteeah, K. P. Lesson Plans and Ideas

B2 – Writing Part 1 (Essay) – The effects of fashion on people’s lives

Love it or hate it, we all follow trends and fashion. It’s also one of the evergreen topics that can be approached in many different ways. You can deal with fast fashion and sustainability, the newest trends during the fashion week, or do what I did and talk about its effects on our lives.

My inspiration to create Cambridge lesson plans comes in waves, depending on the students and their upcoming exams. One of my B2 students is taking her FCE exam at the beginning of March, which motivates me to craft lessons for her and ensure that she gets the highest score possible. I thought that this week we could review and tackle Writing Part 1. As this part is obligatory, it is essential to be well-prepared and ready to write the best essay possible while following and having a deep understanding of the writing assessment criteria.

Scroll until the end of the post to get the worksheet with the teacher’s notes, and the presentation in case you teach online (like I do!). This lesson material can also be found in  B2 Sample Paper 2 , and all the example essays are taken from  B2 First Handbook .

essay about fashion and appearance

The other week in one of the podcasts that I listen to regularly, I heard about a fashion rule that we should all follow. Before you get dressed, think about three adjectives that best describe your style, and dress accordingly. I immediately thought that this activity could work well as a warm-up before the heavier part of the class, which is all about analysing the exam task and understanding the writing criteria. If you have a bigger group, you could ask them to write the three adjectives anonymously on sticky notes and then match the style descriptions with the students.

Once you match everyone with their style descriptions, present students with five  stylish  women. Students may work in pairs (or individually) and rank them from 1-5, 1 being the most fashionable and 5 being the least. Students present their order and justify their choices.

essay about fashion and appearance

Introduce the writing task by showing the thesis of the essay –  Some people say the fashion industry has a bad effect on people’s lives . Divide students into two groups. Group A thinks about reasons that support this statement. The other group thinks of reasons against this point. Once groups have a few ideas, put one student A with one student B, so they can debate each other’s points and reach a final decision.

Now, show students an example essay which relates to the previous statement. Students read for gist and check if any of the ideas mentioned in the previous activity appeared in the text. Read it again and identify three main points that the text deals with. Are they positive or negative?  (There are one positive and two negative points) . Show the exam task and explain the rules of FCE Writing Part 1. Say that in this part, students always have to write an essay. They need to include two points mentioned in the task and one extra idea of their own. Read the text again and underline the parts of the text that mention all three points. Point out the structure of the essay and the purpose of each paragraph.

  • Paragraph 1: Introduction
  • Paragraph 2: Points supporting the thesis (job creation)
  • Paragraph 3: Points against the thesis (judging appearance and the price of clothes)
  • Paragraph 4: Conclusion

Now that everyone read the example answer at least three times, analyse the examiner’s notes. Explain the criteria used in the writing assessment – content, communicative achievement, organisation and language. I think that students must understand what they are being assessed on to perform well in this part. It will help them see that even though grammar and vocabulary are important, they are not critical, and it’s possible to get a good score, even with some mistakes.

Once they understand the criteria, it’s time to put on the examiner’s hat. Show two essays answering the same task as before. Give some time to read the answers and discuss which of the two is better and why. It’s obvious that the second one is way better, but students may already start justifying their decisions using the writing assessment criteria. Put students into pairs and ask them to score the two answers. Look at everyone’s answers and compare them with the actual scores and explanations. Discuss if any of the scores surprised them.

If you have some spare time, you can give 5 minutes to plan the answers to the same task as before. Explain the importance of planning and thinking before jumping into writing. If you can afford it and make sure that everyone hands in their essay, give them about 40 minutes to write their answers. You can even shorten this time, as there was plenty of time to think about the answers, and most likely students already know what they want to write about. If you don’t have that much time, you can set it as homework.

Since the lesson was quite heavy with a lot of reading and analysis, finish by discussing four short questions on fashion and style. Think about the importance of getting dressed well and people who decide what’s fashionable or not.

Outfits 'Bridgerton' star Nicola Coughlan has worn this year, ranked

  • Nicola Coughlan has been attending fashion shows, red carpets, and premieres in standout outfits all year.
  • Aside from a few lackluster looks, most of her ensembles have been eye-catching and fashion-forward.
  • Here's what she's worn this year, ranked from worst to best.

Insider Today

Nicola Coughlan might just be the most fashionable member of the "Bridgerton" cast .

Since the start of the year, the 37-year-old actor has been attending movie premieres, red-carpet events, and fashion shows in standout looks. She's worn colorful minidresses, an assortment of edgy ensembles, and some ball gowns.

But she's also sported a few outfits that could have been better.

Here's a look at her biggest style moments this year, ranked from worst to best.

The blazer dress Nicola Coughlan wore for an April TV appearance was missing something.

essay about fashion and appearance

She arrived at the "Watch What Happens Live" set wearing the long-sleeved turquoise piece with black tights and pointed pumps.

Her outfit also included a thin fabric belt tied messily around her waist.

Though the blazer's vibrant color worked on Coughlan, her outfit could have benefited from sharper tailoring and different accessories — maybe a sparkling brooch or a fun handbag.

Her white Versace ensemble, which she wore to a "Bridgerton" event in May, washed her out.

essay about fashion and appearance

Coughlan looked like a modern-day version of Penelope Featherington in her expensive outfit, which included a $1,550 silk blouse underneath a $1,990 wool shift dress.

And when accessorized with a $325 headband and a small $1,995 purse, the outfit became even more feminine and fun.

But the white and cream shades of the above pieces were almost too light. The same outfit in a different color — maybe all black or lavender — would have worked better.

The little black dress Coughlan donned at a Christian Louboutin show in March was cute but forgettable.

essay about fashion and appearance

She attended the runway event wearing a $2,725 Vivienne Westwood design. It had a scooped neckline embellished with a bow, a knee-length skirt, and loose long sleeves.

Coughlan also wore rhinestone-studded Louboutin sandals that cost $1,795 and carried a $3,290 matching purse.

The outfit was great for a night out, especially when paired with the red lipstick she wore.

But when compared to the more fashion-forward looks Coughlan has worn this year, it doesn't ultimately stand out.

A vibrant red outfit she sported in February was almost perfect.

essay about fashion and appearance

Coughlan attended a "Bridgerton" event in London that month wearing a $2,700 Stella McCartney blazer as a dress and the designer's $895 fuzzy, vegan heels.

The two pieces worked great together, and red is undoubtedly Coughlan's color.

Unfortunately, her dress was almost too oversized, with sleeves that extended past her hands. If they had been tailored shorter, her outfit would have been close to perfect.

The black blazer dress she wore a few days later worked better.

essay about fashion and appearance

At a party hosted by British Vogue and Tiffany & Co., Coughlan wore a Stella McCartney blazer dress with a neckline that nearly reached her navel.

But rather than wearing the garment alone, the actor paired it with a Styland mesh blouse, semi-sheer tights, and black sandals.

The outfit was sharp and chic and worked perfectly for an evening party.

Coughlan showed the power of textured fabrics and good trousers in March.

essay about fashion and appearance

For a British Vogue event in London, Coughlan wore two black pieces from Styland: a $3,207 strapless top covered in Ostrich feathers and $203 satin pants with pleats.

The lines of the latter piece made Coughlan look much taller than she is, and the feathered top was the perfect piece to contrast the silky texture of her pants.

The actor only needed a trench coat to make a fashion statement at a London movie premiere.

essay about fashion and appearance

While on the "Renegade Nell" carpet, Coughlan was photographed wearing a coat-style dress in an off-green shade.

It had thick shoulder pads, a deep neckline, and a slit in the middle of its skirt that revealed her platform heels. She also wore two black belts wrapped around her waist.

The outfit was simple but effective and suited Coughlan's tiny frame. And though she carried a clear umbrella to combat London's rainy weather, it complemented her dress perfectly as an accessory.

In mid-March, Coughlan experimented with old Hollywood glamour — and it paid off.

essay about fashion and appearance

She attended an event for her series "Big Mood" in a knee-length black dress with ruched fabric and short puffy sleeves draped beneath her shoulders.

The elegant dress also had a scooped neckline with two sparkling cups poking out of it, adding extra glamour to the piece.

The dress was styled sharply on Coughlan with black tights, pointed pumps, and an updo hairstyle that kept all eyes on her outfit.

The corseted look she wore to another "Big Mood" event was fashion-forward.

essay about fashion and appearance

She walked the event's carpet in a black Roland Mouret jacket dress and a leather corset designed by Misho. Together, the two pieces would have worked on any New York Fashion Week runway.

But Coughlan really nailed the look with her accessories and makeup. She wore various metallic rings, gold statement earrings, and burgundy lipstick.

Coughlan could have been mistaken for a princess at Erdem's February fashion show.

essay about fashion and appearance

She wore a sleeveless maroon gown from the fashion house decorated with sparkling floral appliqué. It also had a deep scooped neckline, a satin bodice, and an ankle-length skirt.

Coughlan would have looked stunning if she wore the dress with no accessories. But instead, she made the gown into a dramatic fashion statement by wearing gloves that ballooned above her elbows.

It turned out to be one of her best fashion moments of the year so far.

In true "Bridgerton" fashion, Coughlan wore a sparkling ball gown during a recent trip to Australia.

essay about fashion and appearance

Richard Quinn custom-made her black dress with off-the-shoulder sleeves, a U-shaped neckline, and a tulle pleated skirt.

Its full silhouette nodded to the regency era of "Bridgerton," and its sparkling details were ideal for this season's leading actor.

Coughlan wore the dress with black sandals and minimal jewelry.

essay about fashion and appearance

Anna Delvey is using her next court appearance as a ‘fashion presentation’ for her brand

B udding fashion publicist Anna Delvey is putting on the first-ever “court-appearance-as-fashion-presentation” later this week, Page Six has learned.

As we first reported, the beloved scam artiste launched a fashion PR consultancy, the OutLaw Agency, with biz legend Kelly Cutrone last year.

Its first event was a buzzed-about Fashion Week show for suiting atelier SHAO New York that the agency staged on the roof of “Fake Heiress” Delvey’s East Village apartment (where she was under house arrest at the time).

Now we’re told that OutLaw’s second event will be an upcoming immigration hearing at a New York courtroom, which will double (whether it likes it or not) as a press preview for new pieces from SHAO New York.

Outlaw announced to Page Six on Wednesday that Delvey — who will be appearing at a hearing about her $10,000 bail bond, whether or not a court-ordered ban on her social media will be lifted, and the terms of her house arrest — will be “wearing a custom SHAO New York black oversized twill suit with a high-waisted pencil skirt and a high slit paired with a white cotton button-down shirt with built-in shoulder pads and a silk velvet pussy bow tie” for the court date. Sketches for the look even include her now-trademark ankle monitor.

With designers facing ever-more difficulty getting attention for their wares, it seems that the OutLaw team figured they may as well harness the attention from her court appearance to get press for their client (which is, after all, the job of a fashion PR consultant).

During her 2019 trial for screwing hotels, banks, other businesses and individuals out of tens of thousands of dollars by posing as a German artistocrat, Delvey’s courtroom fashion made almost as many headlines as her crimes. Delvey — whose real name is Anna Sorokin — used a stylist for her court appearances and even refused to attend her own hearing on one occasion after designer duds failed to arrive at her cell in time for her to appear in appropriately chic attire.

We’re told Delvey and designer Shao Yang put together this week’s bold look as a comment on the expectation that defendants should wear demure outfits in front of judges.

“Why are we as women being asked to dress a certain way when we enter a courtroom, or a boardroom, or a dinner party? Why are others trying to control our level of innocence based on what we wear?,” OutLaw Agency co-founder Cutrone told us, “This is discrimination in its most subtle and intriguing form and we’re here to change it up. We have respect for the legal system and they should have respect for the fashion system.”

Delvey was convicted on attempted grand larceny, larceny in the second degree, and theft of services, and was sentenced to 4 to 12 years in prison .

She served two years and was remanded into the custody of ICE in 2022. She’s since been fighting to stay in the US rather than face deportation to Germany.

Budding fashion publicist Anna Delvey is putting on the first-ever “court-appearance-as-fashion-presentation” later this week, Page Six has learned.

Miranda Lambert and Husband Brendan McLoughlin Step Out at 2024 ACM Awards

Brendan McLoughlin and Miranda Lambert

Miranda Lambert will perform during Thursday's telecast, which will be streaming live on Prime Video.

Miranda Lambert made it a date night at the  2024 Academy of Country Music Awards , arriving with husband Brendan McLoughlin at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas.

The "If I Was a Cowboy" singer hit the red carpet wearing a deep cut black gown accessorized by a turquoise belt and matching jewelry. Her hair was down in loose beach waves, and she wore silver, strappy open-toe shoes.

Her hubby complemented the look in a classic black suit.

“I get to go home to her tonight," McLoughlin told ET's Rachel Smith.

Lambert is set to grace the stage during this year's ceremony for what promises to be a fiery performance. The 40-year-old songstress offered a sneak peek on her Instagram account on Wednesday, writing, "Rehearsed and ready for y’all tonight  #ACMawards  🔥🤠."

The carousel included a handful of behind-the-scenes photos and videos, including one snap of her beloved Airstream camper dubbed "Wanda The Wanderer."

According to a seating chart, it looks like Lambert will be sitting with pal Chris Stapleton in the audience.

Thursday marks Lambert and McLoughlin's first red carpet appearance together since last year's ACM Awards. The couple tied the knot in January 2019.

"We balance each other really well," she said of her husband in an interview with ET last year. "I love that he's supportive and kind and also calls me on my sh*t."

"I can play him a new song or tell him about a new partnership, and he's just all about it, and really happy for me and really supportive," she added. "He retired from the police department a couple years ago, and he's been able to travel with me because of that. So for him to just kind of jump and run when we got to go to Austin, go to work, we do some fun, and we do some work and he's just always down for whatever and always lights up a room. He's a very happy person and it gives happy energy to the space around him."

Also in attendance is Lambert's ex-husband , Blake Shelton, and his wife, Gwen Stefani .

Lambert is among an A-list roster of stars set to perform during Thursday's ACM Awards, including Jelly Roll, Jason Aldean, Kane Brown, Cody Johnson, Thomas Rhett, Chris Stapleton and Lainey Wilson. Additionally, Kelsea Ballerini and Noah Kahan, Shelton and Stefani, and Nate Smith and Avril Lavigne will deliver memorable duets.

Host  Reba McEntire  is set to take the stage as well, performing new music and serving as emcee for the 17th time. Just last month, Lambert and McEntire joined forces onstage for a powerhouse surprise performance during Lambert's headlining set at Stagecoach.

The 59th annual  Academy of Country Music Awards  streams live May 16 on Prime Video. Check out  all the nominees  and the  full winners list .

Fashion: Why Does It Change in the US? Essay

Introduction.

Many people spend a lot of income in the fashions in US this is because with the changes in the technology and culture changes in America, people are becoming more civilized and are ready to leave their traditional beliefs and cultures this is because some of the dressing modes that were used in the old times can not apply now due to the rise in civilization then the dressing styles are changing.

That is why it is very hard for people to make use of the clothing that were used in the old time as one will fell outdated and can lead to discrimination in colleges and other work places. Therefore due to the feeling of one to fit in a group then it is advisable for such a person to know what the changes are expected and how they affect you in the places where you live. In many campuses in America there is the discrimination of other cultures, which will lead to these there need to spend more in dressing. (Flugel, 1990)

The spending of high income is based on the peer groups in that due to the people one has to stay with in campus then there are different clubs that are formed and they have discussion on their dressing modes. This will mean that the non-club member will have to adapt this culture, which will be used to make differences in the campus, and it is an easy task to understand this culture, as these people will interact with others from the same country.

The peer group has got a high pressure that it places on someone and this will lead to many problems been faced leading to one overspending on fashions so that each style that has to be in use then one is supposed to make use of it. The peers force the people to have the same fashion even if it means to loss a lot of money on them and therefore this has got a high contribution to the high spending on the fashions. In the spending of high income on fashions this can be due to the fact that one has got the self esteem that has to be reached and therefore for one to reach the self esteem then if it was based on clothing then it will lead to high been spend.

The campus students are determined to dress differently from other people who are not in the campus and this will have the implication that they will have attained their self esteem. Most of the people have got different items that are attached to the self-esteem and therefore before one has attained this then he or she is forced and pressed to spend high on the fashions. The dressing modes have laid a trap for most of the people and they feel that it is their rights and responsibilities to reach the self-esteem that is based on fashions and therefore they have to dress in every fashion that exists in the world around them.

The fashions are changing over and over again and therefore with the changes that occur in the world then people develop the aspiration of getting all the fashions so that they can have the feeling of having attained what they had targeted for the completion of their lives. If one has not reached the self-esteem then he or she cannot feel to have attained the life that was required and therefore this is seen as the most important factor that leads to high spending done on the fashions. (Alice, 1980)

With the case of culture popularity then it is important to note that many people have left out their culture that was covering them mainly based on the dressing styles and have adopted the modern culture this has led to many countries having to spend a lot on the fashions like the US it has a high record of the income that goes to fashions about $20 billion goes to the spending on canning modes of dressing by the campus students and those in workplace.

This is due to the civilization that has been occurring in the world and leading to people changing their cultures and adopting this modern cultures. Most of the people are forced by circumstances to wear clothing that are in the modern world in that the recent fashions that have been in use and therefore lot is lost in the fashions. With the appearance most of the people wear clothes been based on the appearance this is because the appearance of a person is very important as it will be based on the respect that will be accorded to such a person.

Therefore a person working in an office should appear decent and therefore the dressing style that is adopted matters a lot so that a distinction can be made between a working person and a non-working individual. The students in campuses want to appear different thus they wear in different manner depending on the group that one is involved so that these clubs in campuses can be distinguished one from another through their mode of dressing.

It is very important for a person to wear clothes that will have the right distinction to him or her and therefore in the case of media then one dresses basing the style on some one in TV or other media and this can be seen in that most of the singers have got different modes of dressing depending on the songs that are sung therefore through the observation of such people then it becomes possible for this person to wear the clothes that were worn by a certain person.

The incomes of many people ranges depending on the position that one has in an organization therefore the dressing modes are also based on the income that one gets. This is because one can not find a manager been dressed the same with the juniors and therefore for the case of distinction then one dresses very expensive clothes as compared to the other people. With high income then one has got to dress clothes that are expensive so that the distinction is seen and people award you a different rank from the rest. The reasons why people impose high income on fashions is because they feel that they should dress differently depending on the changes that take place in the world in which we live and therefore with the modernization then fashions has got to change in the same manner with the changes in the world. (Alex, 1990)

People are spending more on the fashions this is due to the fact that there are forces in the world that force the people to have the high spending so that they can appear the same as the others in the world. The things like peer groups can be of high impact to the person leading to high problems been faced if one has low income and is involved in a group that is of high income levels. The culture can also lead to high spending this is because one will feel out of place if he or she dresses differently from the rest and therefore it becomes possible to make the changes that are required so that the right changes can be attained to fit in the modern world. Income can be a factor that can make a person see the need to use more income and the self-esteem this will mean that it will lead to the person using high income.
